Me here or there . Sandra safe in our studio. Good to see you, bill. Im sandra smith. The president will be traveling to
North Carolina
to bear witness to rising floodwaters threatening homes in the state. Bill an attorney for the accuser now saying her client will not testify on monday unless the f. B. I. Opens an investigation into her claims. There should be an investigation. Thats the right thing to do. If there is not an investigation would she appear on monday . She is prepared to cooperate with the committee and any
Law Enforcement
investigation. That has been her position and continues to be her position. She will cooperate with the committee in whatever form that takes. Sandra peter doocy is live on capitol hill this morning. If dr. Ford does not testify monday, how much longer will the kavanaugh confirmation be delayed . Not long. The republicans say they gave her a weeks notice. If she doesnt show up its time to move on. Corker says this, after learning of the allegations chairman
Chuck Grassley
took immediate action to ensure both dr. Ford and judge kavanaugh have the opportunity to be heard in public or private. We extended a hand in good faith. If we dont hear from both sides on monday lets vote. Grassley, the point person is the
Judiciary Committee
chair says he offered dr. Ford a public hearing or a private hearing or the opportunity to come in to be interviewed by congressional staff. This whole idea of having the hearing was to accommodate her request to tell her story in the dignified and civil setting. And if she decides not to show up, thats entirely her choice. Senator
Lindsey Graham
said a couple minutes ago he thinks democrats are trying to delay this after the midterms. It is time to take a
Committee Vote
on kavanaugh asap. Sandra are democrats satisfied with that timing . No. They think all of this is happening way too fast. From everything i can tell, they arbitrarily made a decision it would be monday. From everything i can tell the press conferences theyve been having they didnt coordinate with her and declared she should come on monday. Its just more of the same. So far we havent heard from any democrats on the
Judiciary Committee
saying they would boycott a committee. Their problems are with the process but also the gender breakdown for one senator. I expect the men in this country and the men in this committee and many of them believe me. We all signed onto this letter to demand an f. B. I. Investigation. But really guess who is perpetuating these kind of actions . The men in this country. I want to say to the men of this country shut up and step up. The latest communication in the back and forth was a letter from grassley last night to kavanaughs accusers attorney saying that monday has to be the day. Now lawmakers are waiting to get a letter back, sandra. Sandra a lot changing. Peter doocy, thank you. Bill the white house standing by his
Supreme Court
nominee. He said kavanaugh is a victim of a desperate political tactic on behalf of democrats. President trump i feel so badly that he is going through this. I feel so badly for him. This is not a man that deserves this. This should have been brought to the fore, it should have been brought up long ago. Sandra democrats from day one have said they wont be supporting cavanaugh. They know october 1 the
Supreme Court
convenes. It is clear what their playbook here. Bill guy benson,
Fox News Contributor
. Good morning to you. What is the calculation at this point for republicans do you think . Well, my understanding is the
Committee Republicans
are looking at these allegations and saying this. These are serious, we need to give this accuser her day in
Political Court
basically. We also dont want this accusation and this process to just be dragged out indefinitely, which seems to be one of the goals of the democrats. So what theyve done is its a one week under the rules of the committee they get to announce one week in advance a new hearing, which is exactly what they did on monday for next monday. They are saying we are welcoming both the nominee and his accuser to our committee and because of the sensitivity of everything, they are offering professor ford the option of testifying publicly or going behind closed doors. And so far it sounds like there is some confusion on the other side of this about whether or not thats an acceptable offer from the republicans. My suspicion, bill, is that this woman wants to tell her story and she will but for now there is some of this jockeying about. Democrats saying its a rush and republicans i think reasonably arguing we have made everything available to her on a reasonable time frame. Lets move forward and ask these questions. Bill there is a sense of drama for monday. What happens if she is not there . Do you think
Brett Kavanaugh
is in the room and says im here . Ive spoken to a couple staffers on the chity and committee and also a member of the committee. If professor ford decides not to show up for the hearing on monday, it will seal the fate and
Brett Cavanaugh
will be voted out of committee and approved by the senate. Even jeff flake, bob core ker or others, if after all of this and the long delay between
Dianne Feinstein
getting information about this letter months ago and here we are today, if after this entire process the accuser still doesnt want to go on the record closed or open session i think theyll say all right, this is another level of the stench of the democrats timing and tactics. Were voting to proceed. Bill anita hill,
Clarence Thomas
27 years ago. This morning she was on
Good Morning America
urging people to wait now. Said this. My advice is to push the pause button on this hearing, get the information together, bring in the experts, and put together a hearing that is fair, that is impartial, that is not biased by politics or by men. Bill you can understand the pressure thats building from the other side but what you point out is significant. Jeff flake said hang on about a week ago. Now he is saying if she does not come to d. C. For this hearing, he will vote to go forward. Thats significant. Right. Anita hill is siding with the democrats, which should come as no surprise whatsoever. I think that people like flake are looking at this saying all right, were being reasonable here. We want to hear from this woman and take an allegation like this seriously. It happened allegedly 36 years ago. No corroboration or pattern of behavior that weve seen but naoefls its ser yous. She sent her lawyer out on
National Television
saying my client is willing to testify. She wants to tell her story and with a weeks notice all of a sudden the demands shift from the democrats. Im not attacking ford. The democrats say we must hear from her. We need to have a hearing. It needs to be open. The republicans say lets do it. Democrats say why are they bullying her and rushing this . Its a lose lose proposition by design and clear what the democrats are up to here and senator hirono in is sound bite earlier she said we have a plan. The democrats have a plan to hold this seat open for two years. That gives away the game about some of the motives here. Bill thank you, guy. Good analysis there in d. C. Much more on this coming up shortly. Well speak with a former u. S. Attorney
Andrew Mccarthy
and democratic congressman
Eric Swalwell
will join us later today. Feinstein late yesterday got a lot of attention and we want to pick up here and elsewhere saying about the fact she isnt quite sure. Just to paraphrase. I dont know i think. Sandra senator
Lindsey Graham
saying that requiring this f. B. I. Investigation before she appears ahead of the
Judiciary Committee
he says is not about finding the truth but delaying the process until after the midterm elections. Bill there are some democrats on that committee up for election 50 days from now. Well watch that. Sandra a lot more coming up on all of that. North korea and south korea say theyre getting closer to peace on the peninsula. Pyongyang saying theyre willing to completely denuclearize and the president is touting the process. To permanently dismantle a test site and launch pad in the presence of international experts. Greg palkot is following the story for us from london. Some hopeful signs coming from that pyongyang summit but still a bit short of what some officials and experts had wanted. After another day of talks, kim jongun and south korea moon jaein talking about a
Korean Peninsula
free from
Nuclear Weapons
and threats and kim allowing experts to come and look and get rid of its missile facilities. Kim already promised that missile site dismantlement to
President Trump
. There are other missile sites and nuke sites. As for the corresponding measures, that probably means what kim wants badly from the
United States
a declaration of the end of the korean war which ended for all intents and purposes 65 years ago and no mention of what washington wants, a full accounting of the kims nuclear and missile arsenal and a timeline for their removal. It calls into question how much this pushes forward negotiations and whether there could be in the near term another kim trump summit. Finally sandra, maybe the biggest news coming out of this is moon offered an invitation to kim and kim accepted to come to seoul maybe by the end of this year. Having been to both pyongyang and seoul, i can tell you, chairman kim will be impressed and maybe think about giving up those nasty nukes. Back to you. Sandra greg palkot, thank you. Bill another fox news alert. President trump will head to
North Carolina
to assess the damage from
Hurricane Florence
. Entire communities remain under water. The pictures are stunning. Some rivers still rising even today. So we get a live report on the ground in one of the hardesthit areas in a moment. Sandra
President Trump
says he hopes the crowning achievement of his presidency will be exposing the, quote, russian hoax. Republican congressman pete king will be here next to react. What matters to you . Step up to the stage here. Feeling good about that . Lets see most of you say lower a1c. But only a few of you are thinking about your heart. Fact is, even though it helps to manage a1c, type 2 diabetes still increases your risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke. Jardiance is the only type 2 diabetes pill with a lifesaving cardiovascular benefit for adults who have type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Jardiance significantly reduces the risk of dying from a cardiovascular event. And lowers a1c, with diet and exercise. Lets give it another try. Jardiance can cause serious side effects including dehydration. This may cause you to feel dizzy, faint, or lightheaded, or weak upon standing. Ketoacidosis is a serious side effect that may be fatal. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, and trouble breathing. Stop taking jardiance and call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of ketoacidosis or an allergic reaction. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, swelling, and difficulty breathing or swallowing. Do not take jardiance if you are on dialysis or have severe kidney problems. Other side effects are sudden kidney problems, genital yeast infections, increased bad cholesterol, and urinary tract infections, which may be serious. Taking jardiance with a sulfonylurea or insulin may cause low blood sugar. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take and if you have any medical conditions. Sowhat do you think . Well im definitely thinking differently than i was yesterday. Ask your doctor about jardiance and get to the heart of what matters. Your insurance rates a scratch so smallr you could fix it with a pen. How about using that pen to sign up for new insurance instead . For drivers with accident forgiveness,
Liberty Mutual
wont raise their rates because of their first accident. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. So lets promote our falle a homecomingtravel dealame, on choicehotels. Com like this. Touchdown. Earn a free night when you stay just twice this fall. Or, badda book. Badda boom. Book now at choicehotels. Com bill breaking news now on the push to federal investigators are working to get documents public and get them to republican lawmakers. The president had this to say earlier telling the hill, quote. I have had many people ask me to release them. Not that i didnt like the idea but i wanted to wait and see where it was all going. I hope to put this up as one of my crowning achievements that i was able to expose something that is truly a cancer in our country end quote. New york republican peter king is on the house intel committee. How are you doing and good morning to you. Youve been on tv for months saying make them public. What changed in his calculation now to do it . I think the president has probably felt this has gone far enough as far as waiting for the f. B. I. And the
Justice Department
to release the fisa applications. Ive read the applications and gone down to the
Justice Department
. I think objective people looking at this whether they support
President Trump
or not will see the fisa application was not an honest one. It did not have the full disclosure that should have been there. It certainly did not in any way give any real idea where the dossier was coming from. It did not talk about any of the unreliability of christopher steele. As far as carter page, the significant information they left out about him i dont see how anybody could have considered if they saw the whole record would have considered carter page any kind of russian agent. The fact he had no dealings at all ever with candidate trump and also the fact that each of these applications is supposed to contain new information to get the application extended and when theyre all looked at youll see there was almost no new information. They were recycling old information. The fisa court is unique. This is unprecedented power that is given to the
Justice Department
. And to use that power to ask for that power of the court you have disclose everything you know. Instead in this case not anywhere near enough was disclosed to the court. The court really was treated badly but the result of that is the abuse of power by the
Justice Department
against a president ial campaign unprecedented in american history. Bill the court was set up to catch terrorists overseas who are trying to harm us here. In addition to that you have to wonder what the judges were all about. The president said this about that. He said i dont think we have to go much further than to say weve been misled. One of the things im disappointed in is the judges in fisa did not and do not seem to have done anything about it, end quote. What you are describing there is that once we get a chance to see this, does that make any of this conclusive . I think again anyone looking at it objectively will see that there was no basis for the fisa warrant in the first place and carrying that forward there was no basis for the appointment of a special counsel because there was no evidence of any crime ever being committed. Thats the reality. Special counsels investigate crimes. The fisa court issues warrants involving a
Terror Threat
against the
United States
. Neither of those existed here. From beginning to end this has been based on false premises and again with the fisa court, i dont know what all went on with the judges. Its a secret court. There has always been an understanding if you will between the court and the
Justice Department
because its so sensitive the
Justice Department
will operate in good faith when theyre dealing with the court. And so the court gives maybe the
Justice Department
more leeway maybe than it should. I have found in almost every case whether it was bush, obama, the
Justice Department
dealt honestly and openly with the at least honestly with the fisa court. That was not done in this case. This is the exception to the rule. Bill you raised a lot of questions. I want to squeeze in a question about collusion, obstruction, any of that definitive based on the release of these documents. How long before intel officials, d. O. J. Can say this material can now be made public . Is that days or weeks away . Some may try. Again, i dont see anything at all in the fisa application that will damage national security. Thats a phony argument put out there. Maybe in some other documents theyre requesting there should be a name or two taken out but the majority of these documents should be made public and the fisa application my recollection having read them is everything should be made public there. North Carolina in a moment. He is taking questions from reporters. Well have that tape turnaround in a moment. The various questions he is fielding about
North Carolina, about judge kavanaugh and that process and also about attorney general
Jeff Sessions. There was an interview at the hill. Com where he said, quote, i dont have an attorney general. It is very sad. Im not happy at the border, im not happy with numerous things, not just this. Im sad because sessions came to me. He was the first senator to endorse me and wanted to be attorney general but i didnt see it. Taking questions on this right now. Also getting word he is taking questions on north korea as well. While this is happening on the south lawn of the white house he gets on marine one and will make a short flight to
North Carolina. Well cover it when he arrives and gets his assessment of florence. Well get a lot of headlines in a matter of minutes. Sandra as we await that. Well bring it to you as soon as we get that. We want to head to one of the hardesthit areas from florence. Were there in
North Carolina. I go back to the initial days with the hurricane making landfall and shortly after it did new bern was one of the hardest hit areas down there. What is happening there now . Youre exactly right. 4300 homes were damaged. Everyone lost power. 300 businesses were damaged and now it is full recovery mode. Right behind me is a 40foot semi truck eight foot wide from the
North Carolina baptist men. One of the largest food trucks ever built. There are 60 cooks here, 1,000 square feet of kitchen space and theyve been creating meals, 20,000 meals per day. Right now theyre busy making lunch for an expected 12,000 people arriving here at 11 30. If you come over here you can see some of this over here. We have tommy cooking. What do we have here . Hot dogs. Some of the meals are hot dogs. Others are vegetable lasagna. These guys are volunteering. Tell me about where youre from. Im from forest city,
North Carolina. Talk about what it means to you cooking for folks despite that you were impacted from the storm. We need to help our brothers. It means a lot. I know they would help me if i was having this problem. We had 8 inches of rain in my home but not a foot. You thought it was important to be here for the folks who didnt have power. Thanks. Its not just lunch. Its dinner and breakfast. These folks plan to be here for two weeks. Weve seen them here again the baptists. Were talking about 10,000 people that are volunteering across the state through this organization and theyre doing it out of the goodness of their heart. We have the cookies here and cooking continues. 11 30 lunch. Theyll deliver these meals not only throughout this area but also offering a cafeteria here for people that want to drive through. Sandra i bet theyre a welcome sight to folks who have been through a lot. A very organized operation. Thank you for your reporting on the ground there. Bill good stuff. The granola bars only last so long. The need down there is so great, food and water and gasoline. The lines are just so long. The whole eastern half of the state of
North Carolina you can see it going on. Sandra you were probably looking forward to a hot meal and shower. Bill electricity is underrated. It is an extraordinary thing to go across it. Theyll struggle for some time and we have to realize that. Patience, tough to do. President trump says the u. S. Is seriously considering a
Permanent Military base in poland. That countrys president is trying to sweeten the

Brett Kavanaugh as he heads to
North Carolina and other questions he is answer go there. Accuser demanding an f. B. I. Investigation before testifying. Andrew mccarthy has a lot to say about this. What they should do is look at the testimony from the accused and accuser and then also weigh everything that theyve been able to ask judge kavanaugh under oath. You see so many people

Dianne Feinstein for having the letter in july and waiting so long to make it public or respond to it. On kavanaugh, hard to imagine anything happened referencing the incident alleged from 36 years ago. Spoke also about the good news from north korea and south korea from overnight and took some questions on the attorney general sessions after this article in the hill. Com when he talked about being very disappointed in
Jeff Sessions. All that will come out in a moment. Eight minutes it lasted. Once we get that queued up and turned around youll see it at homecoming up. Sandra this is extremely timely with the president heading down there. A lot happening in washington but a lot happening down in flood ravaged areas in
North Carolina and
South Carolina. As we await the president , again were waiting about eight minutes he answered questions of reporters, well bring it to you as soon as we can turn it around. Want to bring in
Andrew Mccarthy former u. S. Attorney and columnist for
National Review and
Fox News Contributor. Thank you, andy, pardon us if we have to jump and go to the president , which well do when we have that. If you could, i know youve got a lot to say on what is happening with kavanaugh right now. Your thoughts this morning. Sandra, i think that at this point we have to conclude that this is just a setup in which the democrats have abused the process. I dont mean to demean what happened to dr. Ford if anything did. But, you know, in general, in this country, what happens is the accused is not the one who has the burden of establishing that something terrible happened. So here we have one person who says something bad happened when she was 15 but she cant place it in time and place, yet were supposed to believe she precisely remembers kavanaugh is the assailant when she cant say where the assault took place. On the other hand you have kavanaugh, we have a rich record of people who testified about his character and his treatment of women to a rich, rich extent but he, despite not having any obligation to do so, has proclaimed his innocence. He hasnt just said they dont have enough evidence to show im guilty. He said i am innocent. Sandra your take is it has the hallmarks of a setup and you penned the oped on that. When we go to the president , do you think the f. B. I. Would open an investigation . She says she wants one before she sits down before the
Judiciary Committee. Will it happen . Why would they . No. Its 36 years old and she wont testify about it. Sandra all right. You gave me a few seconds. We appreciate your time and you continue to write on this at the moment. Thanks to you. Bill, were awaiting the president. He was walking out the marine one and decided to take questions from reporters and weighed in on kavanaugh all the way to north korea. Bill thats common. Well see it play out before he heads to
North Carolina. He will see scenes of devastation when he arrives there. We cant understate the significance of the flooding. Some of these rivers have yet to crest, if you can believe that. Here it is wednesday. You are five, six days after the eye came on shore. The president will head down there today and first here is this from the white house. It runs eight minutes. President trump well be heading to
South Carolina and were doing very well there. The rivers are cresting. They are just starting to crest. Were really just going to say hello to all the folks from the military and the fema and people who are working so hard. I think it will be an incredible day. Well be coming back at 6 00 or 7 00 tonight. [inaudible question]
President Trump it would seem the f. B. I. Doesnt do that. Theyve investigated theyve investigated about six times before and it seems they dont do that. [inaudible question]
President Trump i would let the senators take their course. Let the senators do it. Theyre doing a good job and given tremendous amounts of times and already postponed a major hearing and they are hurting somebodys life very badly. Its very unfair, i think, as you know,
Justice Kavanaugh has been treated very, very tough and his family, i think its a very unfair thing whats going on. Well see. But i do think this, theyve given it a lot of time. They will continue to give it a lot of time and really, its up to the senate. I really rely on them. I think theyll do a good job. [inaudible question]
President Trump i would really want to see her. I would want to see what she has to say. But i want to give it all the time they need. Theyve already given it time. Theyve delayed a major hearing. There is no more when i first decided to run, everybody said the single months important thing you do is the
Supreme Court justice. Weve heard that many times about a president. I would say this, i think he is an extraordinary man. I think he is a man of great intellect as ive been telling you and he has an unblemished record. This is a very tough thing for him and his family and we want to get it over with but at the same time we want to give tremendous amounts of time. If she shows up, that would be wonderful. If she doesnt show up, that would be unfortunate. [inaudible question] im disappointed in the attorney general for numerous reasons but we have an attorney general im disappointed in the attorney general for many reasons and you understand that. We are looking at lots of different things. I have a great cabinet. We have the greatest economy ever in the history of our country. So were very happy with the way things are running generally speaking. I dont think weve ever had an economy like this. Somebody who was on just this morning from the
Reagan White House said this is one of the great economies in history. Were very happy. [inaudible question] i cant hear you. [inaudible question]
President Trump the f. B. I. Has been very involved with respect to
Justice Kavanaugh. They know him very well. Theyve investigated him six times and investigated him for this hearing. If she shows up and makes a credible showing, that will be very interesting and well have to make a decision. But i can only say this, he is such an outstanding man. Very hard for me to imagine that anything happened. [inaudible question]
President Trump we had very good news from north korea and south korea. They met and we had some great responses. I got a tremendous letter from kim jongun, as you know, it was delivered three days ago. Were making tremendous progress with respect to north korea. Prior to becoming president , it looked like we were going to war with north korea and now we have a lot of progress. Weve gotten our prisoners back. Were getting our remains back. They continue to come in. A lot of tremendous things but very importantly no missile testing, no nuclear testing. Now they want to go and put a bid in for the olympics. We have a lot of very good things going. Remember this, prior to my coming into office, a lot of people thought we were going it was inevitable we were going to war in north korea. And now the relationships, i have to tell you, at least on a personal basis are very good. It is very much calmed down. [inaudible question]
President Trump well see what he is looking at. Well see. In the meantime were talking. It is calm. He is calm, im calm. Well see what happens. [inaudible question]
President Trump no, im not. If he is honest, and i think he is going to as long as he tells the truth its 100 . He was with ronald reagan, he was with bob dole, he was with mccain, he was with many, many people. Thats what he did. Paul manafort was with me for a short period of time. He did a good job. I was very happy with the job he did. And i will tell you this, i believe that he will tell the truth. And if he tells the truth, no problem. I dont want to talk about it now. [inaudible question]
President Trump because we want to be able to take what we can handle. [inaudible question]
President Trump i would have to see what she has to say. We continue to give her a lot of time. Weve held up the whole hearing. What i dont like is that senator feinstein had this letter for a period of like three months from july, maybe even before that. But from july. Why didnt senator feinstein bring this up at her meeting with judge kavanaugh . Why didnt the democrats they knew about the letter. She was showing it to democrats. Why did they wait until everything was finished and then bring it up . That doesnt look good. Thank you very much. Ill see you in
North Carolina. Bill a lot of news in there. We packed it in. Kavanaugh, sessions, north korea, f. B. I. Six times. Let the senators do their job with regard to kavanaugh. Extraordinary man with unblemished record. On
Jeff Sessions im disappointed. North korea very good news. Tremendous letter from kim jongun. At the white house about three days ago. Sandra he will make his way down to hurricane flood ravaged
North Carolina. Well likely hear from the president again as he arrives down there. A wide ranging group of questioning he just answered from reporters starting out by talking about the rivers cresting heading down there and return to washington 6 00 or 7 00 tonight. He talked about the progress on north korea and moved on to the economy saying i dont think weve ever had an economy like this before. Bill so the images will be pretty stark when he arrives in
North Carolina. The congressman from high point,
North Carolina is with me now, mark walker, on the
House Oversight committee. Good day to you. My best to you and everybody in that state. I know you guys are dealing with a lot more than i think people realize. What do you want the president to understand from that visit today . Well thank you, bill. And you and your team have done and provided great coverage throughout the last six or seven days. We want to make sure he understands the magnitude. The white house has been very proactive instead of reactionary in the process. Brock long and fema have done well. We have 16 major rivers that are going to be cresting. I know the brunt of the storm hit last week but as
North Carolina has major rivers flooding is a huge issue throughout this state. 300,000 people still without power. Just yesterday mike fox and the dot got one road into wilmington that was completely cut off from the rest of
North Carolina. Bill how do you think fema did so far . I ask that because it is not over and i know youve given them praise. Are you getting what you need . I think we are at this point. But i would also add this. This morning driving over i thought about going back five years ago to oklahoma with the tornado that was devastating. Smith and williams said if youre waiting for the government you might have to wait a couple of days. Baptist men are already here. Neighbor helping neighbor from the coast to the mountains. North carolina has this attitude we want the federal government to come in and well need them but were not waiting for you, well get the job done now. Weve seen that kind of spirit throughout the state and local level. Local
Law Enforcement, responders, sheriffs throughout the different counties are sending relief teams. Swift water rescue. Everybody jumped on board. Serving two years on the committee on
Homeland Security i was proud of
North Carolina being recognized as the number one state when it comes to
Emergency Management and emergency preparation. We needed that this past week. We hope the president certainly acknowledges that but also for those of us on the federal side, we have to continue to do our job as well. Bill from being down there last week, a lot of folks thought the storm would come and go and by saturday life would be back to normal. I dont think anyone anticipated what you are seeing now. So many have said its far worse than matthew few years ago. A lot of people are left in a state of shock. I think it has. I was driving sunday evening driving through central
North Carolina stopping and visiting some of the shelters. One of my counties that i represent. There are people 2 1 2 to 3 hours inland there from new bern talking with these wonderful displaced people, you use the word shock. I think thats a very accurate description. Just trying to realize that they had to escape with just what they could hold in their arms. They dont know what they are going back to and when they can get back there. Were talking about tens of thousands of people that are in this predicament plus on top of that hundreds of thousands of people who still dont know when they can have access to power as you said, power is not energy is not underrated. Well continue to work with the crews. We have teams from 17 different states coming in to do utility work. Weve had help from 29 different states. We appreciate that. This is certainly a national incident. Any time we have such a hurricane of this magnitude with specifically the days after the flooding and some of the continued really suffering that were seeing. Bill i think about the elderly and you think about the poor. A lot of there is a lot of poverty in some of these small towns in eastern
North Carolina as you know. It makes it doubly tough for those people. Will you see the president today . Will you head to the coast and make it that far . We have not coordinated our schedules. Im 3 1 2 hours from the coast. If we have a chance to go in the afternoon we may try. As of right now no intentions to do so. Bill thank you, sir. Mark walker. You will need a lot of help down there. Thank you for sharing what you know today. By the way, where he is right now, youre a good on a normal day youre two hours from the coast where he is. Nothing is normal in
North Carolina now. That drive will take you four to five hours. Sandra you had quite a trek to get to the airport. Bill it was something else. We were lucky. We had access to the official information. They gave us one of the most circuitous routes you could not find it on our own. Trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle. Find the right road. Sandra turn at this fallen tree. Bill we helped out each other. Cbs, the weather channel. Swedish television. Were all in it together down there. One road into wilmington. Thats the highend of the bathtub,
Atlantic Ocean on one side and all the rivers that come in and around and surround the city. Those folks have been cut off for some time. Our best to them. Hang in there. Were pulling for you. Sandra the president is about to take off there. Meanwhile
Hillary Clinton is back and she is bashing
President Trumps socalled authoritarian agenda during an interview calling on americans to reject the agenda come midterms. Well hear from our ateam. Theyll react in the next hour. Bill the story of her kidnapping stunned america. Now one of the people involved in that is getting ready to go free. How does she feel about that . Am i concerned . Yeah, im very concerned. North Carolina. The moment a black bear busts through a family van in asheville,
North Carolina. Oh my gosh. It was inside. Her husband hightailing it. Thats not your husband, by the way. Big john would have been there for the fight. The van not so much. Sandra meanwhile the woman who helped her husband kidnap
Elizabeth Smart is said to be released from prison today. She is going free after spending more than 15 years behind bars. William la jeunesse is live in los angeles. William. It was 16 years ago that wanda helped kidnap and raped a 14yearold girl for 9 months. This morning she will walk out of a utah prison over the objections of that victim
Elizabeth Smart. Barzee is 72. Officials will help her relocate after completing her 15year sentence. It was a plea bargain in exchange for testimony against husband brian david mitchell. He got life for the repeated sexual abuse of
Elizabeth Smart. Smart claims that barzee remains a threat to her and the community because one, records show barzee refused
Mental Health treatment while in prison and secondly because she allegedly still carries a book of revelations that mitchell wrote about the time of the kidnapping. If she is
Still Holding onto that, which is in that book, in that book of revelations that he wrote, thats where he said to kidnap me and six other young women. If she is still carrying that around i think she is a big threat. Barzee will be on five years of supervised release. She is required to check in on a regular basis with her parole officer who can make unannounced visit to see if she complies with the conditions of release and registered as a sex offender, no alcohol. Keep up medications and therapy. And no contact with smart. If she violates any of those, she can be sent back to prison and as to where she is going the feds wont say. Barzees family says they will not take her in. Back to you. Sandra what a story. Thank you very much. William la jeunesse. Bill two dig stories next hour. Right now

President Trump on his way to
North Carolina for a firsthand look at the devastation there from florence. But back in washington the drama surrounding
Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser continues to escalate. Welcome to a brandnew hour of americas newsroom, im sandra smith. Bill im bill hemmer. Nice to see you back in the flesh. Air force one taking off moments ago bringing the president to the heart of the flood zone. Youll see some of the hardest hit areas when he arrives in
North Carolina. Sandra back in washington the battle over
Supreme Court nominee
Brett Kavanaugh intensifies. The president addressed the latest developments in that story. President trump it would seem the f. B. I. Doesnt do that. Theyve investigated theyve investigated about six times before and it seems that they dont do that. Well, i would let the senators take their course. Let the senators do it. Theyre doing a very good job. Theyve been given tremendous amounts of times. Theyve already postponed a major hearing and they are hurting somebodys life very badly. It is very unfair, i think, as you know,
Justice Kavanaugh has been treated very, very tough. And his family. I think its a very unfair thing whats going on. Well see. But i do think this. Theyve given it a lot of time. Theyll continue to give it a lot of time and really, its up to the senate. I really rely on them. I think theyll do a good job. I really want to see her. I would want to see what she has to say. But i want to give it all the time they need. Theyve already given it time. Theyve delayed a major hearing. There is no more look, when i first decided to run, everybody said the single most important thing you do is the
Supreme Court justice, okay . Weve all heard that many times about a president. I would say this. I think he is an extraordinary man. I think he is a man of great intellect as ive been telling you and he has an unblemished record. This is a very tough thing for him and his family. And we want to get it over with. At the same time we want to give tremendous amounts of time. If she shows up, that would be wonderful. If she doesnt show up, that would be unfortunate. Sandra the president moments ago. Mike emanuel is live on capitol hill. Whats the latest were hearing from republicans at this point . Good morning. The argument from republicans is they made a perfectly reasonable offer inviting professor
Christine Blazey Ford to cap hill on monday to tell her story in private or public whatever she decides graham is saying the committee should move forward. He said requiring an f. B. I. Investigation of a 36 year old allegation without specific references to time or location before professor ford will appear before the
Judiciary Committee is not about finding the truth but delaying the process until after the midterm elections. Senate
Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell sounds pretty calm at this stage. Im not concerned about attacking the nomination. Weve been meeting with the committee to agree to a process that is fair to the woman who is accusing here. Everybody can agree its a fair process. If professor ford does not change her mind it sounds like most republicans will be inclined to go ahead with the process, sandra. Sandra arguments that democrats are making right now. Democrats are suggesting that the republican colleagues are wushing things along trying to get this done in a hurry. Attorney for professor ford a background of the allegations would be smart before a partisan hearing before politics get involved. Judiciarys top democrat is what we wanted was an investigation carried out to look at the facts before there was a hearing. The republican majority is apparently not going to do that but based on what i know at this stage she is credible. Other democrats say their gop counterparts shouldnt be in such a rush. We should not be rushing to judgment with a sham hearing on monday that is designed solely to create a he said she said atmosphere assassinating her character. If republicans are unified feeling theyve made a good offer there isnt much democrats can do to stop the process. Sandra mike emanuel on capitol hill. Thank you. Bill another top story now
President Trump addressing 30 minutes ago a potentially major breakthrough with north korea. Kim jongun promising to shut down the regimes main
Nuclear Facility in return for reciprocal measures from the
United States not spelled out by the way. Chairman kim pledged to allow
International Inspectors to monitor the closing of the site. A second round of talk during south koreas president taking place and earning praise from the white house last hour. President trump prior to becoming president it looked like we were going to war with north korea and now we have a lot of progress. Weve gotten our prisoners back. Were getting our remains back. They continue to come in. A lot of tremendous things. Very importantly, no missile testing, no nuclear testing. Now they want to go and put a bid in for the olympics. We have a lot of good things going. Remember this, prior to my coming into office, a lot of people thought we were going it was inevitable we were going to war in north korea. And now the relationships, i have to tell you, at least on a personal basis, theyre very good. Bill our headliner on this republican senator mike rounds out of south dakota. Thank you for your time. Nice to have you back on our program here. Appreciate the opportunity. Bill i think we can all agree the president broke down walls with north korea. I dont know what happens next. Based on what youre hearing and from the summit here it could be significant. It could be. At the same time were not going to count on anything until we actually see results. This is a case of where there has been lots of talking in the past. Were still talking. As we move forward and we see progress it gives us hope that we can perhaps resolve is peacefully. Sandra im hearing cautious optimism. You heard the president a few moments ago using words touting good news when it comes to north korea and south korea and the summit happening there and tremendous progress. Are you comfortable with that assessment . Moving forward thats a step in the right direction. The fact that they are suggesting that they will be taking down one of their missile facilities, one of their testing facilities. Thats a positive step. An offer. The fact that he is suggesting he would have outside experts in to verify, thats a move in the right direction. Remember, the fact that we actually had a number of our
Fallen Heroes being returned, that was a substantive result of what the president has been able to accomplish with north korea. Were moving in the right direction. But we want to see things solid. We want to see the real results before we start claiming success. At this point its a lot better off than it was before the president started trying to negotiate with north korea. Bill you talk with a very cautious tone. We can all agree as to why. I wonder if north korea and south korea found two leaders who could actually move a process forward. If they submit a bid for the olympics in 2032. Create a railroad link. Remove security guards from the posts between north korea and south korea. No one on that
Korean Peninsula has ever talked like that before. That and the fact theyve indicated they want to have a formal end to the korean war. Thats a positive step as well. So things are moving in the right direction, but these can be derailed just as quickly as they can start to move forward. This is not going to happen overnight. But as long as were talking, thats better than being at war. Bill thats one topic. Sandra has another thats hot today in washington sandra were watching the latest with judge kavanaugh. It seems its a difficult thing for some of you to discuss because we just dont know what is going to happen next, whether or not we are going to see his accuser show up on monday and where this goes next. What do you want to see happen, senator . We want a process that the
American People feel comfortable with and one that members of the
United States senate feel comfortable with as well. Our role here is to vet judge kavanaugh to find out whether or not he is the right person to sit in a lifetime appointment to the bench. This man has already been through six separate f. B. I. Investigations beginning in the 1990s forward. He comes with an impeccable record to begin with. He has now been accused of inappropriate activity when he was a teenager. It has caught the attention of the nation. The individual who has made these accusations deserves to have an opportunity to be heard. I think chairman grassley has done an excellent job of trying to reach out under some very unique circumstances in which the democrats on this committee apparently had knowledge of these accusations for six weeks before they gave them to the rest of the committee and thats only after it was found out through news reports that these actually existed. Thats hardly an appropriate way to treat a chairman who has gone out of their way to try to work across the aisle in these hearings. I think the chairman has done a very good job of trying to be fair. Bill
Lindsey Graham is more blunt. This is what he said about the politics of washington you dont have to be
Sherlock Holmes to figure some of this out. The democrats knew about this for weeks. July, they never raised it in a timely fashion. They sat on it and never confronted judge kavanaugh. That says a lot about their tactics. Theyre the people that want to sink kavanaugh and get trump. You dont have to be that sharp to figure out there is something going on here. She will have her day monday if she chooses to come. Sandra do you think she is going to show up . It will be up to her. I know the chairman has offered to do this in private. He offered to do it in public if thats their choice. I know that senator collins had suggested that rather than having members of the committee ask the questions, to actually have outside counsel hired separately to come in and ask specific questions of both trying to find a way to make this as bipartisan as possible given our colleagues of the other side of the aisle havent seen fit to take that approach. Bill
Mitch Mcconnell had a meeting with senators yesterday. He delivered a message about an election thats in the offing 50 days from now. What do you think as things stand right now . Do republicans control the senate in 2019 . We control the senate right now about 5149. Well control it, i believe, next time around. A lot of
American People want to see us follow through and get our work done. That includes a budget with appropriations, includes strengthening defense and also includes honoring our commitment to actually bringing in qualified judges on both the federal bench as well as in the
United States
Supreme Court when the opportunity arises. Bill you would agree people vote on the issue of the
Supreme Court. They do. In fact, i think thats one of the reasons why
President Trump is president today. He made it very clear that he would nominate conservative judges and we knew that there would be a
Supreme Court nominee in the wings waiting to be nominated and confirmed. I think that was probably one of the turning points in this president and i think the president would acknowledge that as well. Bill senator, thank you for your time. Sandra senator, thank you. Bill make rounds from south dakota. You have a good election in north dakota. Well watch it. More on this next hour. Well hear from
Eric Swalwell out of california. He will join us live and well talk to him and get the lowdown from his perspective. Sandra meanwhile as weve been mentioning
President Trump right now is on his way to
North Carolina to visit areas hard hit by the flooding there in the wake of
Hurricane Florence. He is about to arrive at a military base for a briefing on
Recovery Efforts. Were going to head down now to one of the hardesthit areas. Griff jenkins is live in pollocksville,
North Carolina. It is just about 20 miles west of where the president will land. This is what he will see when he looks out the window of air force one. This drone footage shot by the
Jones County Sheriffs Office shows the total devastation of an entire town, a small town totally cut off from civilization and under water. This is the same scene playing across
North Carolina. The governor saying 16 rivers at flood stage. Three more that may crest. Sandra seems like we lost griff there. He has been in some of the hardesthit areas of this region as you just came from there. Clearly this is giving us an idea of what
President Trump is about to see as air force one descends on the area. Bill look at that water. It goes on as far as the eye can see. For folks like griff. We have him back now getting a signal is a big challenge and moving around, it is difficult. Takes you a long time to get just about anywhere. It is. Im not sure whether i got to get the sound bite in. The emotions are raw and the need is so unbelievable for the residents here whether you are talking to the mayor bender, who im told may be one of the people meeting the president as well as edward bell, moved to tears in talking about what this little town is going to need. Listen. Mr. Trump needs to know this is usa on the ground level and its the worst day ins history of our town. And its kind of emotional. Come an come and check it out. We need some help. Daryl bell. Its a very emotional situation here and one of many cities, guys, that is going to need the president s attention when he gets here in a matter of minutes. Sandra a lot of emotion there. Incredibly difficult to watch these people try to recover and then have to rebuild eventually. Griff, thank you very much. Well see you more in a bit. Bill that scene plays out in town after town and mile after mile. A feeling of shock and so many are dealing with it now. President trump en route to the marine air station in
North Carolina. He will arrive in cherry point in about 15, 20 minutes from now. Were tracking the movement there. Sandra meanwhile,
Hillary Clinton is now attacking the president saying the only way to stop him is through the midterm elections. Well have a great ateam on deck for you. Theyre here to debate it next. These authoritarian tendencies that we have seen at work, left unchecked could very well result in the erosion of our institutions to an extent that weve never imagined. Cancer. Its very personal. Each of us is different. And each cancer is different. How it reacts, how it evades and adapts. And how we attack it. Thats why at
Cancer Treatment centers of america, we use diagnostic tools that help us better understand what drives each persons cancer. This is what we mean by outsmarting cancer. And for some, it may uncover more effective treatment options. Like christine bray. After battling
Ovarian Cancer for several years, her test results revealed a potential treatment not considered previously a drug therapy that targeted her tumor. Today, christines metastatic cancer is in remission. This is precision
Cancer Treatment. Because at
Cancer Treatment centers of america. Were not just fighting cancer. Were outsmarting it. Visit cancercenter. Com and schedule an appointment with our cancer care specialists today. The actions that we have seen coming from the white house and this administration in the nearly two years since the election have raised all kinds of signal flares, alarm bells. We have to defend the fundamental values and ideals of the american democracy. Bill this was some interview
Hillary Clinton warning that trumps authoritarian tendencies could damage american democracy as we know it. Americas ateam is lined up. Brad blakeman, richard fowler,
Fox News Contributor and
James Freeman of the wall street journal editorial page and
Fox News Contributor. I think james should sit between you two. Would that be more fair . The end of democracy as we know it, brad. Its over, man. You can take the l out of lover. Hillary should take the advice of mcarthur, she needs to go away. The
Democrat Party is full of has beens, biden, hillary, bernie. Fowler. The other thing is if you dont have has beens you have socialist democrats. I think their party is in crisis. If i were advising democrats hillary needs to buy an island and rule that. Sandra did we miss something that happened in the greenroom . I want to address some of brads comments. What the president said today in the interview where he said i dont have an attorney general. That speaks to what
Hillary Clinton is talking about in this oped. Jeff sessions while appointed by the president serves the american president. When he took an oath to the constitution i think thats problematic and she is speaking to that. Attacking faithful workers of the
Justice Department that uphold our constitution every day is problematic and undemocratic. Sandra james . I think if youll say who is the authoritarian, not by leaked anonymous quotes but by actions you would say which candidate ran in 2016 arguing to limit the first two amendments of our constitution . Which candidate wanted to limit the ability of people to make a documentary film about her . Were getting these scare stories but there is no there there. The whole case is a lot of adjectives and references to tweets and comments but where is the fundamental attack on american institutions. It hasnt happened. Sandra the implications of that she discussed. The threat to american democracy on our midterm elections. If we dont have a very big rejection of those tendencies come in this midterm election, i think you will only see more of these attacks on our institutions, on our norms, on the rule of law that could do lasting damage. Bill you want her to go to an island . Yes. Buy an island and rule that. Bill keep dreaming. She isnt going to. I think its hard for
Hillary Clinton to keep their mouth shut during a time like this. When you want to hold back because the resistance on the left is so strong against this administration and this president. It was from day one. The
Resistance Continues but to no avail. If i were advising republicans i think the strategy for the midterms would be you cant argue with success. Donald trump is like a president we havent seen probably ever. But he is getting results for the
American People. Unorthodox, absolutely. Sometimes his rhetoric is over the top, for sure. The bottom line is he is honoring the promises. As a matter of fact donald trump has underpromised and over delivered on the economy. On taking on our adversaries. He is doing exactly what he promised to do which may be foreign to people the who listen to politicians. Bill what was your slogan again . You cant argue with success. The president. You talk about his rhetoric. When he is the president of the
United States your rhetoric matters. When the president of the
United States says journalists are enemies of the people thats problematic and that speaks to why our democracy is in danger. The journalists have a job to be accountable and to hold the government accountable. The president acting dont call them an enemy of the people. No president has ever done that. He has
First Amendment rights just like the rest of us. If you want to talk about a threat to our
First Amendment rights you think about his predecessor and the investigation of this network and the associated press. But i think whats also disturbing in that clinton interview is in terms of respect for our institutions she is talking about how the people who were not elected in the government need to control the person who was elected president. I have to stop you right there. Lets be clear and talk about
Jeff Sessions. He was appointed by his colleagues and president. He has a job to manage the
Justice Department which upholds the constitution. Sandra i have breaking news in here. Well transition to
Brett Kavanaugh and george w. Bush just released a new statement in the wake of all this and he is saying quote, laura and i have known and respected
Brett Kavanaugh or decades and stand by our comments the night judge kavanaugh was nominated. A fine husband, father, friend and a man of the highest integrity. He will make a suburb justice of the
Supreme Court of the
United States and he referenced back to the comments he made when judge kavanaugh was nominated. In those comments he called him a brilliant jurist who has faithfully applied the constitution and laws throughout his 12 years on the d. C. Circuit. George w. Bush standing behind kavanaugh. You are seeing republicans in the senate who might have been on the fence getting behind him. If what is happening here as it appears to be that judge kavanaughs accuser, mrs. Ford, is not going to come forward and share her story given this opportunity, there is really not an argument to hold up this process because outside of her testimony, there is not any evidence to date. Anita hill was on
Good Morning America this morning asking for a pause in the hearing. One of the main reasons i got elected president. It continues. I hope others are watching and studying the democrats playbook. Do we think as a group by monday does she show up or not . No, i dont think so. I think she is being used by the
Democratic Party for again their resistance against donald trump and this nominee to thwart his nomination, to delay it, to derail it. It is not going to work. Bill same question, richard. I dont know. I think we have to wait to see. Here is what we have to do. We have to view this whole entire process with clear eyes and carefully. Both judge kavanaugh and professor ford deserve due process. I would urge republicans if they want to retain the
United States senate having seven men question a woman making bombshell allegations is not a good look. Not good for the party. Especially especially she deserves to be heard. She was heard. Bill what is your consideration for the man, kavanaugh being the accused . I think he deserves the right to be heard and face his accuser and do it under oath. We know the
Judiciary Committee on both sides is partisan. Sandra he has been invited and said yes. She has been invited and not responded. Let me finish. I think because there is so much partisanship on the
Judiciary Committee. In 1991 george h. W. Bush asked the f. B. I. To talk to both they were federal employees. Sandra she has responded but she wants the f. B. I. Investigation to take place. Of course she would sit down. Is that a reasonable request . I think its very reasonable. You have an impartial individual look at this case and make a determination where the i dont understand. I think most people dont understand why you need a further investigation for her to share her story. She has an opportunity. She is not entitled to determine the rules of the senate or the constitution. She is given an opportunity either she takes it or she doesnt. She should not hijack the process. This is why republicans have a problem with white suburban women. That has nothing to do with that. Bill you guys are far apart. Thank you, james. Sandra thank you very much. Fox news alert from

North Carolina, air force one touching on the ground there. The president will emerge and get an update of what is happening in
North Carolina. Emergency crews, rivers are still cresting and what people are in dire need of. From
North Carolina now
President Trump has arrived assessing the damage from an epic storm. The situation on the ground dire for so many. The rivers continue to crest. Some of them. Lets get live to christina in whiteville,
North Carolina, 2 or 3 hours inland. How are the roads and highways and rivers where you are, christina . It is very, very bad. It took us forever to get to
North Carolina because the highway 74 was completely blocked. So we were going into town. There was about five miles of traffic for people leaving. The people at the end of the traffic line had no idea what they were in for. This is just an example. We stopped at a home in whiteville. The water has gone down. We spoke to an insurance guy who was here assessing the damage. But this is sewage water. This is very smelly water and the reason why im not going in deeper there are a huge incline. You can see how low the water is. Thats the problem, though, rivers are still cresting and it is still flooding areas. It might be sunny blue skies right now but the damage is prevalent. These homeowners will have to deal with this. A lot of people dont have power. It has improved since yesterday. Duke energy said yesterday there were over 300,000 people without power in
North Carolina, now its about 100,000. Things are improving on that end but the floodwater is not improving. You are still this is a major issue for a lot of people that are in the area trying to get to work because they need some source of revenue right now. It is very, very difficult for them to move around. And most importantly
First Responders as well. Bill the heartbreak is about to happen for so many who evacuated. Theyll find their homes all flooded out and the reality sets in. What do you do next . What happens then for all these victims . Exactly. A lot of i was in lumberton all day yesterday. People are concerned people wont move back to the county because theyre tired of getting flooded. A lot of these homes have been hit several times. This particular storm ended up not being a hurricane. It doesnt seem as exciting. Im not standing in blowing wind but the water has been a major issue for a lot of these homeowners. Now its a question of do you spend whatever savings you have left over to rebuild your home, reassess the damages and pay for that or do you change locations . A lot of these homeowners, including this home over here have evacuated at the moment. The water was two feet higher the past few days. They havent come back. It is deep over here. These guys need to think about how to pay for it. That has been a major issue for a lot of people we spoke to. They dont have the funds and dont know where theyll go. Over 10,000 people are still in shelters. Thats not including people that are sleeping on friends couches. Bill on and on it goes. Christina down there in whiteville,
North Carolina as the president gets ready to disembark. Sandra well keep these images up and await the president s arrival as he assesses the damage in that particular area. Are we going to move on to charles there . Live images still up. Charles payne joins us now. China the big news here retaliating after new u. S. Tariffs planning tariffs on 60 billion on american products. Make sense of all this for us,
Charles Payne is host of making money. New time for
Charles Payne on fox business network. 2 00 p. M. Eastern time. When the market is moving then im at my best, making money. Well move to 2 00 p. M. Thats when we start to see the market bill you are always working . Sandra i love the idea of
Charles Payne on during market hours. Let me tell you something, you want to make money you make it during market hours, right . The tariff situation. It seems like this is escalating . It is escalating. Our market at one point was up 250 points. Chinas markets was up. And i think if nothing else it moves us closer to some form of resolution. Were hearing china being defensive. The number two guy there, though, at the
World Economic forum saying this indeed is hurting their economy but they can withstand it. Bill can you see how this ends . I think it could end in some sort of a deal. A lot of people dont realize we went through the same thing with japan. In 1985 we had what they called the plaza accord. A deal to sort of handle the trade imbalance via currency. Now, some people believe a decades worth of weakness in japan, but by the same token we were able to resolve it. There will be a resolution. The goal isnt to hurt china, other he for free and fair trade. Bill you want an even playing field. All the rules the same for everybody. Sandra whether or not its possible well see. Bill smitty is looking you can steal intellectual property but not in broad daylight. Sandra its september 19th. We are talking about christmas sales now. Fedex is hiring, target is hiring at 12. Macys 80,000 people. Just this morning deloitte says theyll do 1. 1 trillion in
Holiday Shopping this year. Sandra sounds like a merry christmas. Well see. Thank you very much. New hour, 2 00 p. M. Eastern time. Ill still be here with you guys, though. Sandra the president is on the ground. Before we go to a break here, how important is this based on everybody you saw and talked to on the ground to have the president arrive and go and view whats happening . Hugely. I think it was
Governor Cooper that shook hands initially with the president. Visits like this can go a long way to buffet the spirits of so many that have been beaten down for the past week. I mentioned last hour my sense down there is that people thought the storm was going to come through and lives would go back to normal on saturday and theyre a long way from that. Getting femas help, getting the federal assistance in there will go a long way to helping a lot of people who are dealing with shock in their lives. We get the president s comments here. Quick commercial break and well come back with his visit here in
North Carolina. Everything that touches your baby should be this comforting pampers swaddlers, the 1 choice of hospitals, is 2x softer and wraps your baby in our most premium protection so every touch is as comforting as the first pampers the 1 choice of hospitals, nurses parents bill watching the president walk off the tarmac there talking with roy cooper, the democratic governor of
North Carolina getting a lot of respect from the people in his state. He has been on top of this from the beginning. Want to pause and allow our fox news stations across the country to join us as we wait for that moment, i tell you, saw thom tillis, the republican from
North Carolina. Tim scott and
Lindsey Graham among others. This is fox
News Coverage of the president s trip to
North Carolina assessing the damage of
Hurricane Florence. Im bill hemmer along with sandra smith in new york city. Weve seen scenes of devastation that run for miles. Standing water as far as the eye can see. The president just saw that coming in
North Carolina on air force one. Sandra he saw senator thom tillis traveling with the president on air force one. North carolina senators burr and tillis and scott and graham. Add min officials with him right now. Secretary nielsen, secretary john kelly. Brock long is expected to meet them on the ground there in
North Carolina. Were told the president will make a total there is brock long as we speak meeting with the president in cherry point,
North Carolina. Five stops. The president will be making along the way. We dont know what the stops will be until the time he makes them. Bill it has been such a devastating experience for so many. So many facing a different life now. It runs as far as you can drive there to
North Carolina and thats not easy to do right now in that part of the state. Theyll need a lot of help after being down there earlier in the week. There has been a lot of credit given to the federal government for advancing the teams that they have and being in a position to help so many. These storms, you never know what they do when they interact with land. In this case it wasnt the wind so much at all. The winds brought down the trees that brought down the power lines but just the flooding in these low lying areas has been substantial and now with the rivers cresting at historic levels, it has been historic. Sandra you saw some
Administration Officials traveling with the president. Linda mcmahon over his shoulder. As the president greets these folks it is interesting for us to think, having covered multiple hurricanes at this point, to see the president , his first time visiting this area since
Hurricane Florence really caused incredible damage to the areas down there. The importance of the president and our leadership getting on the ground to really see the damage and bringing that sense of confidence and optimism to the area is really important. Bill talk about the numbers. Theyre astounding. The
Cape Fear River cresting in fayetteville,
North Carolina inland three hours from the
Atlantic Ocean at 25 feet above flood stage. 61. 4 feet, which is just hard to get your mind around a river that can rise that high and when it overspills the banks and where that water goes. Water has a mind of its own. Matthew hit that area just two years ago. Many people are dealing with this twice in two years. Here is the president s briefing and lets drop in now. President trump we want to keep it going that way. Some of the hard work is now. Weve gone through very dangerous work and still dangerous, some of the hard work is taking place right now. Even though its nice, beautiful and sunny. I was talking to the governor. I want to thank you for a fantastic job. But in speaking to the governor, some of the flooding is actually epic. Hard to believe. And weve seen all the pictures where houses are literally covered beyond the roof. You dont even know there is a house there and one of those things. The water is starting to go down now finally but again i want to thank
Governor Cooper. I want to express my gratitude to your lieutenant governor, dan forest. Very importantly. And to all of the state and local leaders who have been really incredible partners throughout this response and recovery. There has been a lot of talent, a lot of work and talent. Without the talent it doesnt work either. A combination of hard work and great ability. Were joined also by secretary nielsen, administrator mcmahon, director mulvaney and fema administrator long. I want to thank you all. Administrator, great job, incredible job. The planning that went into this is beyond belief. So i just want to thank secretary. Really something special. I also want to thank some great friends of mine and some very talented people that love this state. They love all our states, i think you can say, senator richard burr. Where is he . Richard, thank you very much. You have great representatives. Senator thom tillis, thank you. Where is tom . Thank you, tom. Lindsey graham. Lindsey . Lindsey, look at lindsey. Do you want to pull up a chair . What happened to you . You know, we could have richard, would you let him pull up a chair, lindsey. Lindsey has been great and tim scott. Where is tim . I feel pretty guilty. Come up here. They have been fantastic, all four. And weve had a lot of help from congress in all fairness and were ready and theyre ready to do whatever we have to do to make this perfect. That means unfortunately the money will be a lot but it is going to come as fast as you need it. Well take care of everybody. Hurricane florence was one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the carolinas, one of the most powerful and devastating storms ever to hit our country. To the families who have lost loved ones, america grieves with you and our hearts break for you. God bless you. We will never forget your loss, we will never leave your side. We are with you all the way. And to all those impacted by this terrible storm, our entire
American Family is with you and ready to help. And you will recover. Most importantly, we give thanks to the incredible
First Responders, including sheriffs, police officers, firefighters, our great cajun navy. They are all over the place. I put them up online and everybody loved it. Everybody loved it. They put themselves, all of them, in harms way. What theyve done to save precious lives of our citizens has been nothing short of incredible. Nearly 20,000 federal and military personnel are supporting the response efforts, along with southeast coast including brave men and women of
North Carolina and the national guard. Now of course were going to
South Carolina right after this and they have been incredible. I know youve worked and coordinated very well also with
South Carolina. Thats been a really great partnership. Together with state and local
First Responders they have oef assisted and rescued more than 3,000 people. So we want to thank you. I will say ive been watching the coast guard with all the helicopters lifting people off rooftops. An incredible job and we appreciate it. Thank you very much. More than 1. 6 million meals have been delivered to
North Carolina and more than 400,000 are ready in
South Carolina as soon as theyre requested. Were standing by with 400,000 meals in
South Carolina. Crews have restored power to over 1. 2 million customers already in north and
South Carolina. And the power is starting to go on as soon as the water goes down. They are meeting the demand incredibly well. I want to thank the
Power Companies and all the federal workers but also thank some of the
Power Companies. Theyve been very responsive. As soon as that water goes down, for the most part, people have power. In moments of despair, we witness the true character of the
American People. So true. Citizens all across our country rallied together to rescue the stranded, to protect the innocent, and to restore hope to families who have experienced tremendous and unbearable loss. I want to thank all of the people here today. A very special group of people. Very talented group of people, and we love working with you. It is an honor to work with you. Weve done a real job and we have to continue to do that real job because another phase is coming in right now. And were going to meet that phase just like we met phase one. Governor, again, thank you very much. I appreciate it and to everybody, thank you very much. And whatever we have to do at the federal level well be there and you know that 100 . Secretary nielsen, please. First i want to start by thanking you for your leadership. You respond [inaudible] the private sector, we have our congressional members speaking with officials. We are all working together as it should be and we greatly appreciate everyones partnership. If i could i would like to ask the administrator to give us a brief update where we are. Mr. President , as you know, a
Disaster Response like this takes all of us working together not just coordinating the federal government together, which has come together very well so far but takes all of us from neighbor helping neighbor to help people overcome what theyve been through. Ive been on the ground yesterday. Ill be on the ground through tomorrow to make sure i verify that were doing everything that we can right now. This event is not over. The rivers are still cresting. We have a lot of work to do when it comes to the life safety and sustainment mission but were also working on making sure that we stabilize all of the critical lifelines in regards to the infrastructure. It is all interconnected. We have to get the roads open and get the crews into the flooded areas and have to put a big focus on the
Hazardous Materials and health and capability of getting them up and running in every community. One of the things that is most important is that were already pushing forward our disaster survivor business teams into the field and the shelters. We need people to register with 1800621 fema. My job is made easier when a governor like
Governor Cooper and
Mike Sprayberry. They have been strong and capable partners. Thank you, sir. Governor, you said so well yesterday sunshine doesnt mean safety. Thank you, mr. President , for coming to
North Carolina as our rescue and recovery continues. Our rivers are still cresting and there is still danger for some people. Were hoping that they can get evacuated and that our
First Responders continue to make sure that people are brought to safety. Our state took a gut punch, mr. President , and our people are still reeling. Weve lost 27 lives officially so far and some more are under investigation. We mourn their loss. We have farmers who have lost significantly their crops. A lot of businesses are down. And of course people have lost their homes. We have about 10,000 people right now in shelters. I talked to one the other day who had a rescue out of an apartment in downtown wilmington and i will say this, all the way from firefighters in wilmington to our state responders, our national guard, and the
United States coast guard, there have been some heroic
First Responders to have saved lives. We are beginning the process of getting our feet under us, mr. President , and getting water and supplies, hot meals to people. We are beginning to clear roads, although we have a number of roads continuing to be closed, including parts of interstate 95 and interstate 40. You can imagine what that does to the commerce and people trying to get from one place to the next. We have a lot of power that has been restored but there are thousands of people who are still waiting to get their power back. I know that this state has a great economy, great education. We are a beacon in the south and weve weathered stops before. Weve never seen one like this. It has been epic, disastrous and widespread. It is a storm like no other. Were beginning the process, with your federal help and with our local county people, many of them are here today and we want to thank our local responders and all of the help that they have given to deal with people right there on the ground. But were starting to figure out how we will build back. We will do it in a smart and strong way. Ive been grateful for secretary nielsen and for admiral bertram. Thank you for your help with the coast guard and helping to rescue people. Brock long, along with alby lewis who has been here, theyre helping us right now significantly and were grateful. I have a great
Emergency Management director in
Mike Sprayberry and my secretary of public safety. Theyre all on board. Our adjunct general of the national guard, general lusk has been doing a fantastic job. The title 10 that weve invoked with our joint military exercise were grateful to the members of the u. S. Military who stepped up and helped us through this process. Mr. President , weve got a long road ahead in the days and months and even years ahead to make sure we build back where we need to be here in
North Carolina. And you are here and im asking you, sir, for your help every step of the way. All of these federal agencies are going to have to help us in cutting red tape and making sure we can be smart about this rebuilding process. We still understand people have a lot of immediate needs. That will be critically important over the next few days and weeks but long term rebuild i know the resiliency of north carolinians, we have an amazing state. I know we can come back stronger than ever but we will need your help. Thank you for coming to listen to this. President trump thank you, roy. We will be there 100 . All of the folks from the federal government that are around the table, they are confirming it. Its why we started early and well be here later. We want to thank the great job youve done from all of you people. I would like to ask richard burr to say a few words. Your great senator has done an incredible job and well ask thom tillis to say a few words. They love this state and they love this country. I want to say to you and to this group what i said to you on the plane. Ive been doing disasters in
North Carolina as an elected representative for now 25 years. I have never seen the preparation, coordination and collaboration between federal, state and local government like ive seen prior to this event. If we do half as good in responding as we did in preparation north carolinians will be in good hands. The challenge will be this. Replaced things we havent had to replace before. The ability to have coast guard and d. O. D. Assets has enabled those at local, state and federal level to adjust what plans we might have had in place and deliver water and food and essentials in a way we could get into any community into this state. Without that level of collaboration we would have people that were in
Serious Problems much worse than today. And i am grateful for the federal component but i am as grateful for the way the state
Emergency Management folks and
First Responders who in some cases who are volunteers in local communities that had a boat aided their neighbors and thats whats great about this state. Thank you. President trump thank you very much. Thom. Just to echo everything that senator burr said but were now moving toward the next step which is getting the initial funding for recovery. Weve made a request. Well be moving forward with trying to get the money in place for some of the initial recovery but then well work closely with the governor. Governor, thank you for being so prompt on getting the initial need in. It was instructive to the appropriation request. Well continue to work with state and local authorities and thank the volunteers as well. The red cross and everybody else who have come together and congressman rouser, every one of the counties in his district that were affected. He has been working hard on the ground the entire time and this is when
North Carolina, america is at its best. Were coming together and working for the people in
North Carolina and
South Carolina. Mr. President , thank you for your leadership. President trump thank you, sir. For your leadership. As thom and richard said, were getting all teed up for a lot of money to come down to the area. Youll need it. And we have it and we will be supplying it. And there will be nothing left undone. You will have everything you need. We are going to have it will be a rough two weeks but it will be people dont realize how a very difficult phase is beginning today with the beautiful sunshine. So your two representatives and your congressmen are working very hard. Well have it all taken care of. Thank you very much, congressman. Thank you, very much. Appreciate it very much. Great job. Does anybody have anything to say . Any of our administrator mcmahon. You can say something. Thank you. First of all im a
North Carolina girl. I was born and reared in new bern. Both my parents were
Civil Servant employees here at the air base. Where sba comes in is not on the front side but we are immediately right there as a matter of fact and were already staged in east carolina to deploy our folks into the field to get peoples businesses back up and running. To get them back in their homes. This is the time that sba makes the loans and not just guarantees the loans. So please go to sba. Gov, click on the disaster banner and it will take you to the right place. Weve already approved i think just fewer than 10 applications already for mortgages and loans for businesses. So they are low interest, longterm fixed rate. Allow us to help you. Go online and start getting in your applications so we can help our communities and homeowners and even renters who have lost personal property in the storm get back on their feet. Thank you, sir. President trump anybody . Congressman. First of all let me thank you for being here. You have a great heart for the
American People. Thats one of the things i like so much about you and it just really means a lot for you to be here at this particular time. We have a lot of folks that are really, really hurting and i got a couple points i want to make. Before i forget i want to thank brock long and his team. Ive been with him the past several days and theyre doing incredible work. Everybody around this table is just doing a lot of collaborative great work together. Your admiral here, coast guard. I walked in the airport the other day, saw doctors and nurses that were stranded trying to find a way back to new hanover
Regional Medical center. This guy helps us to get them on the c130 and get them to the airport. Ive never seen a ceo of a hospital that was happier than our ceo of new hannover regional the other day. Your team is doing an invedible job. Housing is critically important. Infrastructure very important. I serve on the house transportation and infrastructure committee. Looking forward to rebuilding our infrastructure not just here post storm but we have to do a lot of premitigation work for the next storms. The storms will keep coming. The more we can prepare and clean out these rivers, these ditches, all the creeks and streams, theyre all stopped up. Thats part of the reason why we have such a monumental flood. My district as senator tillis said eight of my nine counties are completely almost completely under water. Major disaster areas. I think we building the infrastructure will be critically important. Housing is number one. Agriculture in my district huge component of this state. 87 billion industry. I see our commissioner of agriculture here in the audience. We have to have more than just a new farm bill. We have to have a real disaster package for agriculture as well. And then our beach communities. Our beaches, inlets and waterways are a key component of infrastructure in this country. Vital to tourism as my district. And i know youre familiar with wilmington and pender county, all these counties need a tremendous amount of help and i thank you and appreciate you being here and appreciate all the work of your entire team. Not only now but as we move into the future. President trump appreciate it very much. Im woody white. I represent 220,000 citizens of new hanover county. I want to thank you for coming here. I with like to echo the comments that were made by david and the others around the table about whats been done and share the hope and optimism our people have about the economy you created. The people you put back to work. All these next two, three, phases of recovery are better because of the economy that youve created. Ive been out in our communities since this storm before it began, in it every day since it was here and folks are cutting trees, putting power lines up, feeding their neighbors, loving each other, caring for each other, and they have incredible hope and optimism for the future. It tells me something that you brought the administrative
Small Business association here today and you are thinking about the future, too. I own a
Small Business and they are the lifeblood of our economy in new hanover county. Thank you for being here. President trump thats nice. I appreciate it very much. The economy is doing really well and i would say maybe the best economy our country has ever had. So thats important. And we want to get everybody back to work so they can, you know, this area has been very badly damaged. But well get it up and working again, governor quickly, i have no doubt about it. Anybody else . Yes. Mr. President , im gerry jones, the mayor of
Morehead City and just on behalf of a
Grateful Community talking about coastal
North Carolina your presence today means a lot to all of us. It means were not left stranded alone on this island. The federal government is here helping us along with the
State Government and many local governments. And being the mayor of a small town and having to being on the boots on the ground and walking the food lines with my constituents and not just mine, people from outside the county. Just building on something you said earlier about
Community Pride and spirit. The
Community Spirit from what ive witnessed is as high as its ever been. It is not what ive learned also that communities arent just in neighborhoods, theyre not just in towns and states. Im talking about a national community. People have come from all over the nation to come to
Carter County to assist us. And just on my way up here i had three phone calls from people throughout the state that wanted to bring provisions down to
Carter County and so im helping organize that. When i walk through the lines of the people, and i have to say this is my first experience. Ive never stood in line before to get a drink of water or a meal or sandwich or anything. The people when i ask my first question of them is how are you . Are you safe . And they say yeah, were safe. However, my neighbor, they lost everything they had. My house is under water. And my response to them always is yes, but at least were here today talking about it. And they always just give praise to god when that is mentioned. So i know well get through this together. Baby steps as we all mentioned. Although it happened overnight, the rebuilding is not going to be overnight but from the state, local and federal level well make it happen. Just the presence of everybody around this table will mean a whole lot with everybody affected from

President trump the f. B. I. Has been very involved with respect to
Justice Kavanaugh. They know
Justice Kavanaugh well. They investigated him six time and investigated him for this hearing. If she shows up and make a credible showing it will be very interesting and well have to make a decision. But i can only say this, he is such an outstanding man. Very hard for me to imagine that anything happened. Sandra well, another big story were watching this morning. The confirmation process of judge
Brett Kavanaugh as high accuser calls for the f. B. I. To investigate her claims before she will testify. President trump is standing by his
Supreme Court pick. Fox news is told there wont be an f. B. I. Investigation. Lets bring in
Eric Swalwell, a member of the house intelligence and
Judiciary Committees. You heard the president s comments as he was leaving for
North Carolina, what did you think . If the president wanted a full investigation, he would tell the f. B. I. As has been done in the past to look at these new claims. I dont understand the arbitrary deadline on this confirmation. Sandra go back to your initial response. What is it that you want the f. B. I. To investigate . Well, what they have investigated before, whether it was this nominee or whether it was with
Clarence Thomas. They reopened that investigation to interview this victim, to interview other people who were involved at the party and to interview judge kavanaugh. Sandra let me tell you the reasons which a highly placed
Law Enforcement people tells john roberts at fox news. Three reasons, there cannot be a criminal investigation. There is no crime alleged. Where the statute of limitations has not run. There are no allegations of a federal crime. The only investigation the f. B. I. Does is a
Background Investigation. Hold on. Youre confusing what the f. B. I. Does. They conduct
Background Investigation for nominees. Six background checks hes had. There is new information now that has come forward as there was in the
Clarence Thomas hearings and they reopened that. That takes the president to order it. Now, i understand why a president who has 13 credible
Sexual Assault allegations against him may not want to order somebody to investigate a judge he nominated with a
Sexual Assault. Sandra lets get to what senator
Lindsey Graham is saying about this. And democratic tactics on all of this. He says, quote, requiring an f. B. I. Investigation of a 36 year old allegation without specific references to time or location before professor ford will appear before the
Judiciary Committee is not about finding the truth but delaying the process until after the midterms elections. Again, that is confusing and standing on process and ignoring a substantive, credible allegation. Do we want a judge on the
Supreme Court if this is true . I dont understand the argument that even if this is true, its expired beyond some arbitrary fantasy deadline so judge kavanaugh sandra i think everybody agrees, even you just heard the president say i want to hear her. He thinks it would be wonderful if she appeared before the
Judiciary Committee. She said i want to hear her story. He is being very clear on that. I have worked as a prosecutor with
Sexual Assault victims. This woman has had
Death Threats placed against her. She didnt sleep in her own bed last night and asking that other witnesses also be interviewed and she doesnt have to sit at the same table and just five days with the judge that she has made this allegation against. That we have a process here that is responsible and shows dignity toward this victim. Sandra youre hearing from both sides of the aisle they want her to be heard. Kellyanne conway said she should not be ignored. Whats the rush . Sandra thats a big question why the timing of all this and it came before the vote. Sandra bringing the allegations forward. I want to finish with this. The wall street
Journal Editorial Board this morning. The main democratic goal is postpone the vote after the midterm. It would spare democrats have having to take a difficult confirmation vote. If dems take the
Senate Majority theyll insist on no vote until the new senate convenes in january. If the republicans rush through a nominee i can promise you that
Democratic Senators will look at those allegations and if judge kavanaugh lied under oath you could see a judicial impeachment. Thats not good for anybody. Sandra do you think she will show up on monday . I think she should be afforded a process that looks at these claims and yes, hopefully she could testify. But sitting next to the judge as senator grassley proposed in such a rushed way is not fair to her. Sandra or behind closed doors. Good to have you on the program. Come back. Bill 21 past. Committee Air national guard. Welcome back to our program. It is good to be back in new york. Our hearts are with everybody now in the carolinas, im certain you feel the same. With regard to the koreas. A lot of news came from this summit. What do you think you can trust right now . Well, i think you can trust that there is measurable progress and the difference here with whats going on versus like what happened with iran, iran everything was behind closed doors and there was a point at which the
Prior Administration accepted what iran was willing to give and said we have a deal even though i personally believe we should have gone further, which is no nukes forever, that kind of stuff and also their behavior in the region. What were seeing play out publicly here is that process of negotiation. North korea said were willing to look this. Its a major step. Im sure the administration will not do this. Whats important for us to say thats a good step, thats not the end state. Whats the next step . The next step until we get to a point where we have a verifiable nuclearfree north korea for all into our future. And this is a good process but there is no doubt kim jongun would stop right now if he felt that the pressure was off. We have to leave the pressure on. Bill here is a tweet from president earlier today. In the meantime no rocket or nuclear testing. Also north and south korea will follow joint bid to host the 2032 olympics, very exiting. More on the list than that. When chairman kim says we need a reciprocal action on behalf of the
United States. If he closes a
Nuclear Facility, what would he expect from the
United States in return . I dont think frankly the chairman should expect anything further from us right now. There are a couple things that happened to benefit. Number one, we arent using our military to destroy his
Nuclear Facility and his regime. We dont want to but its possible. Weve suspended our joint exercises which i disagree with. There is a military value to them. However, its the president s decision and thats been done. I would argue thats already huge reciprocal steps plus were talking to north korea. I hope they dont get this olympic bid. I would like it to be somewhere in the
United States. For the negotiations where theyre at now i think everybody is reciprocal and square. We need to go the next step further to say we eventually want to get the complete accountability of your
Nuclear Program and verifiability of the process. Bill olympics, rail and road links between north korea and south korea. Remove guard posts in the dmz by the end of the year. Well see if its possible. Come back sdaon soon. Sandra is the president s
Supreme Court pick in jeopardy . One gop lawmakers says they wont pull kavanaughs nomination and what were hearing from the f. B. I. President trump theyve given it a lot of time and continue to give it a lot of time and really, its up to the senate. I really rely on them. I think theyll do a good job. Sandra new developments in the confirmation process for judge
Brett Kavanaugh as sources tell fox news there will be no f. B. I. Investigation of the claims made by his accuser. Chief
White House Correspondent john roberts is live on the north lawn this morning. Good morning to you. The president certainly is resisting the notion of reopening the
Background Investigation that was completed by the f. B. I. Into judge kavanaugh. The latest push for that to happen, an f. B. I. Investigation is coming from kristin fords attorney saying she will not appear before the senate
Judiciary Committee unless there is an f. B. I. Investigation. Something that the f. B. I. Would not normally do according to
President Trump and for the first time today as he was leaving for
North Carolina he publicly indicated that he believes kavanaughs side of the story. Listen here. President trump the f. B. I. Has been very involved with respect to
Justice Kavanaugh. They know him very well. Theyve investigated him i guess six times and investigated him for this hearing. Look, if she shows up and makes a credible showing, that will be very interesting and well have to make a decision. But i can only say this, he is such an outstanding man, very hard for me to imagine that anything happened. Its unclear whether ford will attend the hearing scheduled for monday in the senate
Judiciary Committee. In a statement her attorney said her worst fears have materialized and been the target of vicious harassment an
Death Threats. The hearing was scheduled for six short days today and questions
Law Enforcement sources tell fox news there is nothing in this case for the f. B. I. To investigate. There is no allegation of a federal crime. The statute of limitations on any local crime ran out a long time ago and the duty of the f. B. I. In these cases is to find information and then provide that information to the white house and that information is already known. So im told by a
Law Enforcement source that quote, this is not a
Law Enforcement issue, this is a political issue. Sandra got it, john roberts at the white house for us. Thank you. Bill more on this with i was chief nominations counsel during president bushs second term and in this role i worked on the confirmation process for alito and roberts and scores of other federal appointees to the bench. Appellate and
District Courts and nominees to the
Justice Department. Bill you would know how the background process works, right . Absolutely. Every one of these nominations there is a big part of it that the public doesnt see because its confidential and done within the senate is the
Background Investigation and the background review. I have to say that the senate and
American People should understand this. The senate has now a multidecade tradition of handling sensitive allegations, confident nallly, carefully, in this
Committee Process thats bipartisan that takes the politics out of it and not in front of cameras and involves republicans and democrats working together to assess the veracity of allegations like this which do come up. To me this is deeply disappointing that
Senate Democrats chose to not use that process. They sat on an allegation for two months and put it out at the last minute. Which i think is not fair to either the accuser or the nominee or to the process. Im personally very worried that the senates confirmation process may be harmed by this type of political circus. Bill how so . It has worked so well for decades because its worked on trust, on i always trusted that my democratic counterpart would treat allegations carefully and seriously and not attempt to weaponize them or politicize them to use them as a smear against the nominee. We worked together in good faith. When allegations were deemed to be credible nominations would be withdrawn or not moved forward. And when we deemed them to be not credible or not credible enough nominations would be moved forward. It was the judge ultimately of the senators based on the record we developed. What is happening bill go ahead. I didnt mean to interrupt you. What is happening now in public is what the protocols were there to avoid. Bill a very interesting guest. What democrats are saying, however, is that the f. B. I. Needs to investigate. Does it . They misunderstand or misrepresent what the f. B. I. Does. The f. B. I. s role in this process so to essentially surface allegations like this for the senate. They give the senate and white house a big file on a nominee with records of all the people theyve talked to and all the information they gathered on a nominee. Its to the senates investigators to investigate anything concerning in that file. The f. B. I. Makes no conclusions. It is not an investigation in that sense. They serve things up for the senates investigators to consider and for the senate to weigh along with all the other things on whether a nominee should be confirmed. Bill a couple of things you and the viewers were here that the f. B. I. Investigated the anita hill matter years ago. They were both federal employees when the allegation was leveled and it was right to investigate that. I dont know if you believe that or not. But is that the case . As you answer that question, what democrats say is she doesnt want to sit in the same room as
Brett Kavanaugh. Does she have to if you have a private interview behind closed doors . She absolutely does not. I dont think anyone was ever proposing she would have to sit in the same room with him at the same time. The senates investigators or senate in an open hearing are capable of speaking to one witness at a time and thats exactly what they would do in a situation like this. And i think far too much has been made of the anita hill story. The f. B. I. Conducted a couple of interviews, did not conduct a full blown investigation or anything like that. The
Senate Already has the story of dr. Ford and the story of judge kavanaugh as well as denials from a couple of other folks who were supposed to be eyewitnesses or at the purported event back in the 80s. Bill final question. Does she show up on monday . What happens . I cant say that. Theyre serious allegations she has raised about a nominee to a very important office. I know that the senate would seriously consider anything she had to say and would accommodate her proceed durally. Need not in in public and with the nominee. America, you know, has these allegations out there now and can assess the credibility in the context of
Everything Else we know about judge kavanaugh. Bill thank you, gregg. The first time weve spoken. Thank you for coming and sharing your experience. Thank you. Sandra
President Trump in
North Carolina right now meeting with emergency crews, touring communities under water and that under water situation will be lasting for days. Stay with fox news for the latest on the rescue and
Recovery Efforts now underway there. Bill also
Hillary Clinton with some sharp words about
President Trump and words about the
Democratic Party. Mike huckabee takes on that. The governor is coming up soon. If we dont have one or both houses of congress in place, he will be even more uncontrollable and unaccountable. He will fire people in the white house, he will fire people in his administration who he thinks are crossing him, questioning him, undermining him. Sandra
Hillary Clinton back on the attack. The former secretary of state of twotime president ial candidate urging supporters to get out the vote this november to provide a check on
President Trumps authoritarian tendencies. Former
Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee joins us now and
Fox News Contributor. Governor, good morning to you. Good morning, sandra. You know, i hope she is right in one sense. I hope the president does fire a bunch of people. He needs to go through the federal government and give a lot of people some pink slips. People that have been disloyal and tried to undermine him. People in the deep state who have done everything they humanly can do to disrupt his duly elected president. Hillary, i agree with you in that regard. Sandra how about her prediction that
President Trump will be, quote, even more uncontrollable and unaccountable following the results. Lets look at some things he has done in a year and a half. He has cut taxes. He said he would do that. He moved to embassy to jere us liam. He said he would do that. He changed the nature of the middle diplomacy. He said he would do that. Made significant strides with north korea. He said he would do that. He got rid of the iranian deal. He did that. He created the largest flow of new jobs in the history of the country especially for minorities and women and younger people. So i guess if her question is he might continue doing that stuff, why wouldnt we want him to . Sandra here she is talking about the erosion of u. S. Institutions under
President Trump. What im worried about is that these authoritarian tendencies that we have seen at work in this administration with this president , left unchecked, could very well result in the erosion of our institutions to an extent that weve never imagined possible. Sandra seems like a dire warning coming from the former secretary of state. The same secretary of state who tried to pass on the narrative it was a video that created benghazi. This is the same administration that went after reporters like james rosen and his parents and wiretapped the associated press. This is the administration that used the irs and d. O. J. To send swat teams into gibson guitar with fully automatic weapons putting secretaries on their face on the floor because they didnt use the right wood for the necks of guitars. How dare she talk about authoritarianism . This is the same administration that weaponized the d. O. J. And f. B. I. And her campaign gave 9 million to create a phony story and get wiretap surveillance and investigations and ultimately try to take the election away from
President Trump. I mean, the fact that she can say these things. Of course, she can only say them with rachel maddow. Sandra she can say these things and she is. Does it help or hurts her party . Well, im sure she is doing everything she can to fire up her base. It is all the more reason that common sense conservatives, people who are committed to the constitution, they cannot sit at home in november. They absolutely must go out and vote. Even if they dont necessarily care for
President Trump, i like to think they might. But if they dont they need to care about their country and need to make sure you dont have the chuck shaoumers of the world, the
Nancy Pelosis and
Maxine Waters of the
World Running our congress. Thats a dangerous thing for our democracy because for the simple reason, its not about their politics. When you dont accept the results of an elections. The democrats have not. They have refused to accept an election result, that is the danger to democracy. Sandra the former governor
Mike Huckabee good to have you on the program and good to see you. Bill we continue to watch the president move about in eastern
North Carolina. He will show up at a local church doubling as a
Distribution Center in new bern,
North Carolina. You probably heard that town a lot over the past week. It was hard hit by flooding and the evacuation of so many. Brian yenis is in new bern at a
Distribution Site that looks good all things considered. It is perhaps the best news a lot of those folks there have gotten in some time. How does it look . I cant hear you now but were at
Temple Church in new bern,
North Carolina. This is where the president s motorcade just pulled up right over there and you can see the line of volunteers stretched out here that are waiting to meet the president of the
United States here. Right now weve been here all day. These are all volunteers from the baptist church. As a matter of fact the
North Carolina baptist
Men Organization or baptists on a mission. Theyve been here all week long giving out 20,000 meals a day. Right now they have some hot dogs and stuff coming up. You can see the president , this is actually the
White House Pool that is running ahead. This was a lastminute stop on this trip. We saw secret service run over here and start wanding everybody in the last 15 minutes. Nobody knew he was coming to this stop. These folks very, very excited. Again some 20,000 meals are given out of here. This is really an organization that has some 10,000 volunteers spread throughout the entire state. They arent only offering meals. Here we go, they are walking down now. There is the president of the
United States. There is
President Trump waving to all the volunteers. Again, these folks come from all around the state. To volunteer here. We spoke to some folks, the person who is actually in charge of this
Organization Effort here at
Temple Church who lives in new bern. He has donated really volunteered his time to help out these folks despite the fact he has no power and his house is as well in peril. Weve seen folks here all day long. Again anything from vegetable lasagna to cookies to hot dogs and people have been driving through to pick up these meals for the last three days. People just dont have power. They have no means of warm food and these folks have been here to make sure that despite everything that everyone is going through, that they have a warm meal to come home to. A lot of these meals have also been delivered to hardhit neighborhood throughout
North Carolina on
American Red Cross vehicles and so weve seen that from this
Distribution Center as well. Folks come here for meals but also meals are delivered to hardhit areas. Some people just dont have the fuel to make the trip to come here to pick up their meals or their supplies and then to go back home. They do the service of delivering them in those neighborhoods. As you can see, the president there shaking hands there with some of the volunteers. We have some folks in the way here. The white house media pool is there. The truck, by the way, that this food is coming from is the largest food truck one of the largest ever built. A 40foot semi. Thats what these folks are working out of all day. 1,000 feet of kitchen space and they are cooking these meals nonstop. They have them ready for 11 30 for lunch and for 5 00 at dinner. Weve seen people of all ages, those of retiree age, children, full blown families. Again, these are the
Southern Baptists of
North Carolina, a very large, tight knit community. The president looks like he is going to look at some of the food there thats being served. We know on the lunch menu again its hot dogs and green peas. We have a line of cars ready to get this food. This is what this is, a drivethru pickup. The first warm meal many of these folks will be having for the day. There is the president over there saying hi to all these again amazing volunteers. This food truck has been around since he is talking to the folks. You can see that he is moving pretty fast. I think he realizes and recognizes there are folks waiting to get their food for the first time and we will start seeing cars move up to pick some of this food up. We may even see the president serve some food now. A vehicle is about to pull up. Again, some of these folks can make the trip out here. They have enough fuel but may not have enough power at home to go cook their meals and why theyve made it all the way here. Well see the president give out some meals now. Bill good work down there. Brian down there on the scene in
North Carolina, the
Distribution Site. Well hang with it for a moment. Sandra he is helping hand out lunches. The second stop on his tour since he has gotten on the ground there. He is in new bern,
North Carolina, specifically at a local church doubling as a
Distribution Center. The church is located near the base there. But the president felt this was incredibly necessary to go down and thank all these volunteers for the hard work that they are doing. He commented earlier at that briefing. So much more work left to be done in this area. The president is on the ground. Bill the fly over when you see the widespread damage in the eastern part of the state. It goes on forever. Some of the rivers have yet to crest at their highest point. Some have reached the point when you think about
Cape Fear River. 35 feet over its banks. Lets see if we can pick up a little sound. We were hoping to get more than just somebody saying back, back, back as she move folks away from the caravan of cars coming in. Sandra you see the
North Carolina governor there, roy cooper. He has been traveling on the ground since the president arrived. You were commenting earlier on just the fantastic job that this bill i tell you what, even going back to a week ago he has been out there almost every hour of every day. A lot of respect from the people there in
North Carolina that he is trying to take care of. I think also for the commanderinchief and president to be there today is really a shot in the arm for people who have needed to be lifted up and have their spirits carried through and also to know that the federal government has their back and they need a lot of help right now for so many. Sandra since the president arrived there as you can see he is handing out lunches. This is where our reporter has been stationed all day. Making hot dogs. A warm meal to many folks who havent had one. New bern one of the hardest and first hit areas from
Hurricane Florence as the president arrives. He is talking to folks and taking pictures with many and shaking hands. I guess its fair to say a welcome moment for folks who have been through hard times. Bill so much of the electricity and power is out. The sun is back out. It is steamy mid afternoon in eastern
North Carolina. Without that power and the air conditioning it is very uncomfortable. Think about the heartache for so many people who left their homes and rivers and see so many houses underwater. Come back to a life they left in a much different state. And now they are facing an uncertain future for so many. Sandra another cool note that came in from one of the print reporters that during his briefing with his first stop. This is his second there at the marine air station cherry point. The president asked a state official how is lake norman doing and assured it was doing fine and he said i love that area. I cant tell you why but i love that area. The
Trump National gulf shores near charlotte,
North Carolina, the president taking keen interest in thanking all of those volunteers that you see behind you there helping folks get a warm meal and update at the briefing a short time ago, bill. 1. 6 million meals have been delivered so far. Many more are getting handed out. Bill lake norman is beautiful in the charlotte area. A little hug from one of the young men. Can i give you a hug . Thats what happened. This is unbelievable compared to matthew. Referring to a hurricane two years ago that swamped the region. Nothing like this. Sandra you know, without so many shouting to stay back, can we hear them . Sandra just barely. Hands around another child there im not sure if thats one that asked for a hug one did a short time ago and the president continues to hand out a warm meal to those folks who are pulling up and many desperately in need of one without electricity for days. Bill thats what he was asking too. Do you have the power back . Thats a long way to go for so many. Overnight there were two more deaths reported in
South Carolina. Apparently two detainees being transported. Two women who drowned. That was under investigation. But the problems continue with high water and these rescue teams plucking so many from the waters from homes and cars. North carolinas governor pleading with so many just to be patient. Really tough to do, you know, the governor admits many roads are dangerous and hazards are possible. The floodwaters and got about 10,000 people in shelters. Once you leave your property and land and want to come back and check it out. For so many parts of that state its just not possible. Still too dangerous. Sandra this is the president s second stop of the president s five stop tour. We dont know the specific stop until he gets there. This, of course, was new bern before. This
Cherry Point Marine corps air station where we heard from those that are traveling with him, including
North Carolina senators burr and tillis. South carolina senators scott, tim scott and
Lindsey Graham are traveling with him as well as well as of his team mic mulvaney, mcmahon, secretary nielsen among others. We have heard them with the updates as well. Brock long gave an update. Said the rivers are still cresting, which was a warning that there are still many days, tough days ahead. Bill also got word at sunrise that one road has been open officially in the wilmington,
North Carolina which really was the epicenter of the storm. The eye passed over that area. And as it came on shore and wilmington surrounded by low lying rivers and cape fear someone of them. Little river down there, back up into lumberton,
North Carolina. Rivers come from the atlantic. All that water gets pushed up there and comes back out then. Changing tide. High tide, low tide, back to high tide again. The water continues to creep everywhere. Sandra pretty neat site asightas the president continues to hand out meals. The governor of
North Carolina said our people are still reeling, lives have been lost and farmers have lost everything. Possibly a little bit of a bright moment here. This trip is very important to the people of north and
South Carolina. We are going to run for now. See you again tomorrow. Outnumbered starts in about three seconds. Byebye. Harris phil and sandra thank you so much for the handoff. We are going to stay with these live pictures of the president of the
United States on the ground with the team there. Some members, cabinet. Some members of fema. This is a huge on hand look at whats happened after the
Hurricane Florence. And so with the president there, this is his second stop. We are only showing you and mentioning these stops as they happen in realtime. This is
North Carolina. This is new bern,
North Carolina. And a long stretch of highway 70 between kinston and new bern where communities are all but cut off. People cant come in and out easily. And they are in line
@type":"Organization
archive.org
@type":"ImageObject
800
600
//ia902801.us.archive.org/30/items/FOXNEWSW_20180919_130000_Americas_Newsroom_With_Bill_Hemmer_and_Sandra_Smith/FOXNEWSW_20180919_130000_Americas_Newsroom_With_Bill_Hemmer_and_Sandra_Smith.thumbs/FOXNEWSW_20180919_130000_Americas_Newsroom_With_Bill_Hemmer_and_Sandra_Smith_000001.jpg
@type":"Organization
