region, some lawmakers are calling on the trump administration to retaliate. we have fox team coverage, here is the latest reaction from washington. trey is live in jerusalem. reporter: the iranian government is denying any involvement in the massive saturday attack against the saudi arabian oil production plant. it's believe other drones or even missiles were used to target the facility causing massive fires while they spent the summer targeting western oil infrastructure in the gulf including takers and pipelines. this event was much larger. the vent cut% of the global oil supply sparking fears of oil shortage. they claim ten drones were used to hit the oilfield and houthis rebels were behind the strikes. united nations investigators say these rebels do have the technology capable of carrying out such an attack. >> we excluded vulnerability in the saudi defense system and drones to avoid the system, therefore the saudi airspace became open to us after the defense system failed to spot the drugs. reporter: iranian foreign minister had in a tree, u.s. secretary of mike pompeo was being untruthful as he blamed for the new exhalation. they come on a concern of a larger conflict in the gulf and intense relationship between iran and the united states. houthis inside yemen saying there behind the attacks, there's no evidence if the attacks were launched from yemen and u.s. government officials say they believe the attacks were launched from iraq or around itself. arthel: thank you very much. eric: the attacks could cause a world wide oil shortage and affect prices at the pump. kellyanne conway earlier this morning on fox news sunday. >> secretary pompeo's meeting has made it clear that their raining regime is responsible for the attack on infrastructure vital to the global energy supply, they stand ready to tap into the strategic reserve and showing as we must to stabilize the global energy supply. eric: team coverage continues live in washington. reporter: democrats in washington say they need more from the trump of ministration after secretary of state mike pompeo tweeted that iran was behind the attack on the saudi oil industry. chris murphy says prove it. senator murphy tweeted iran is about actor. you don't need to make stuff up to convince me. if the ministration has evidence that the iranians, the houthis who claim responsibility launched the attack on saudi oil facilities show us. rhode island democrat on the house foreign affairs committee wants to know how president trump plans to respond. >> there is no question that the recent action by iran is responsible for this is an escalation of iran malignant behavior in the region. this is couple cater because the president does not appear to have a strategy with dealing with iran. reporter: south carolina republican senators tweeted that it's time for the u.s. to put back on the table and attack on iranian oil refineries if they continue the provocation. he says consequences for iran need to become more real. not everyone in the gop is ready for military response. >> i think at any given time, our military is prepared but we need have all the facts and we have to find what iran is doing today and we have to be strong with iran but i don't think we should directly to military. reporter: wyoming congresswoman says the u.s. should work in part through the united nations. and deny visas for the iranian coming to the u.s. later this month for the assembly session. in the new u.s. ambassador to the un should offer a resolution putting sanctions back on around. eric: around president due at the meeting in two weeks. thank you. arthel: for more on this let's join rebecca, the president of independent research in a national security and military analyst. always good to have you. do you believe iran is behind the drone strikes? >> yes. iran noyes denies this. but let's face it, iran is the nation that has the technology, they've gotten help from russia, china and others over the years and we have seen them do things like this before. they hit saudi arabia before and launched drone attacks. joe forget israel has a preemptive strike against iranian drone base in syria three weeks ago. no doubt in my mind pompeo is right, cluster clear it was iran. arthel: what were they up to? a deliberate move to derail a possibility of a meeting between president trump and iranian president? >> whatever they are up to, to me this is a significant escalation and here is why. it's a much bigger step up in terms of the surveillance and precise targeting that they needed to do the causes level of damage. the oil tanks are soft targets hidden with the bomb, fuel, a really big fire. the fact that they did this, it shows they can hit other targets like this throughout the middle east region. dubai airport, the nuclear plant, they have taken a step up, i'm very perplexed what they think this will gain them. arthel: international security expert jim walsh with mit was on the noon show and here's what he had to say. >> the first thing to do is to confirm who carried it out and where it was carried out. we don't know that we only have the tweet from pompeo. this is something you would hear from the commander, the director of national intelligence and something like that. i don't think pompeo -- he's really quick to blame iran all the time. arthel: what do you think about jim walsh what he said and why are we hearing for military intelligence? >> let's not forget, circuitry pompeo was a director, no doubt he is been fully briefed into him to take that really strong step to say this did not come from yemen and pointing fingers at around, i'll go with him on that. i see plenty of reasons for central command to be wider as we sort things out and were waiting to hear from a aramco as to when they think they can put the fire out and how extensive the damages. right now the ministration is playing it cool, pointing the finger but keeping options open. arthel: you say this is a much bigger escalation. what is the proper response from the u.s. and what options would you consider? >> they will have to have a lot of options, no question, two things will happen, this will increase the security for our military forces, throughout the gulf region, they'll be on a little bit higher alert after this. the second thing, i have no doubt what they're looking for potential strike options, that is their job, what are the possibilities, we know that israel attacked the drone base, that is a possibility, we saw a successful attack many decades ago that took out iranian oil infrastructure. having said that, president trump is cautious and methodical, he prefers talks to strikes. they will be looking at the option to present the senior officials of the right time. arthel: i want to squeeze into more questions, how should the trump administration approach saudi arabia. yesterday he called him offering steadfast support to the kingdom and maintain peace. is that the right move by the president question. >> that is the exact treatment. remember this was an attack on saudi infrastructure. so the saudis have to be in the lead, that's very respectful of them and that is right, we'll have to see what they assess as well and there's a lot more to come as well. arthel: meanwhile president trump and the taliban talks that he tweeted about, is this the end of chances for peace deals and can president trump in the war in afghanistan without one? >> i think there is still a chance to get something from the talks, they were very close at the end of august, but nothing, nothing will happen in afghanistan until the afghan elections are over on the 28th of september. the government has said they want to do the elections first and then go back to looking at talks. the taliban will agree with the u.s. to a bilateral cease-fire then there's a chance to take the agreement forward to afghanistan's government and negotiate. meanwhile trump is in a good position. arthel: the president should do what? >> president trump sent additional forces two years ago in 2017 so he could pull a few of those out and leave a strong security commitment and place. arthel: it's always a pleasure. thank you very much. eric: back on the capitol hill house democrats taking the biggest step yet toward potential impeachment. the judiciary committee passed the revolution, formalizing the rules of the investigation into president trump. with the key vote comes confusion some lawmakers continue to send mixed messages about the high-profile inquiry. mark meredith has looked at what is next in the process. reporter: they appear to be split, how much time should be focused on a potential impeachment investigation into president trump. last thursday the committee approved new rules that set a public committee will go forward with this when it comes to investigating the president. the boat did not launch a formal impeachment process and one member of the committee told fox news democrats are determined to hold the president accountable. >> were looking at obstruction of justice, the use of power, corruption broadly we've engaged in hearings, will bring witnesses before the committee. >> some lawmakers fear too much of the parties time is being focused on this one issue and it could hurt democrats in the next election. >> the voters sent me here to get things done. i am worried that investigations ramp up it takes the attention away from some of the issues. >> the president finds the list of questions unnecessary and tweeted about this on friday. you don't impeach presidents for doing a good or great job, no obstruction, no collusion only crimes committed by the other side and led by the democrats. sad. president trump is called the investigation residential harassment and his advisors told fox news, voters are fed up with conversations coming from capitol hill. >> americans, the congress work for you and they're wasting your money and their time on trying to impeach a president. reporter: they will hold another hearing this tuesday, the focus is a presidential obstruction of justice and abuse of power. eric: thank you. arthel: nearly 50000 autoworkers are set to go on strike tonight. what led to the breakdown between general motors and the united auto workers and how would this affect assembly lines across america? >> if you talk to posters and strategist, they tell you the support for bernie sanders and elizabeth warren is unique, but you're right, at some point you have to candidates who are running on similar issues but with different personalities and right now they are cutting each other out. if one of them were to drop out, this would be a very different race in joe biden perhaps not be the front runner. if your democrat, you're with him. because you perhaps go look at the polling and the average that you see the top three, joe biden, bernie sanders and elizabeth warren when their one-on-one with trump in the early polling. but you look at the polling and democrats have to be thinking to themselves, do we have this golden opportunity but instead and runway with ugly attacks against each other. eric: they snap at each other and in the president street saying can't believe the washington post posted the story. unity issue has parties 2010 trump while democrats lash over ideology and tactics, mr. president were with you the entire way. in this tree, he is indicating that the democrats are clashing and could they be the ultimate victim of the constant friction? >> it's certainly possible, you talk to the trump campaign a while back, they would tell you that whoever won the nomination regardless of who they were were going to the dmc convention regardless of which candidate because of their association with individual with alexandria ocasio-cortez and his move so far left that the president could run against that candidate and go after them as if they were a democratic socialist. but now it is interesting, now it's that democrats are having a problem when they're going after each other, this is another very good opportunity. when there is not a front runner, he does not have to train his fire on anyone, he can sit back and let them do his work for them. eric: he can be set in the la-z-boy. while there are cutting each other out. but again, take a look, five of the democrat candidates are beating the president right now, joe biden at 54%, he has had the most over the president. sanders, warren, harris, buttigieg are all ahead of the president to head-to-head matchup. does that mean anything at this early stage? >> it's an early stage, you're absolutely right, so much can change between now in this november in next november when people start going into the voting booth and making their decisions. what is interesting, they think that candidates start campaigns by running the last campaign and president trump is no different, he's going into 2020 we 2016 as a template and he's remembering that the polling in 2016 cam 20d a much different picture than the end result. there's confidence there among the trump campaign that perhaps the polls are inaccurate and that's truly there not again indicate. but that could be abides but we see that the president and a head-to-head battle losing to some many people. eric: thinnest the jigsaw of the electoral colleges that we learn the last time. the polls that you have in the real clear average who do not like polls, the average takes them all together and it's a pretty good parameter. as always thank you. arthel: new violence in hong kong. as pro-democracy protesters returned to the streets by the thousands. the latest march started out peacefully but targeted hong kong government office complex. throwing bricks and cocktails through police barriers. when riot police responded with water and teargas, the protesters moved to a nearby neighborhood and set a fire outside of subway stations. hong kong's government aims to stop the rally before october 1, th,the 70th anniversary of the people's republic of china. the new asylum rose passing major hurdle in the panel reacts to the supreme court ruling and whether this is a sign that the courts are willing to give the president even more authority over the country's immigration system. that dares to last into the morning. so you feel refreshed. aleve pm. there's a better choice. bookers can book literally hundreds of daily deals...
