why does the president's chief strategist steve began noon keep coming up in the conversations. reporter: this goes back to one of the first executive orders siernd by president trump that gave bannon a seat on the national security council. the white house says flat out that it is fake news that he didn't want the job because of steve bannon. he said whoever the next fashion stall security adviser is that would agree to take that position should do so with significant assurances that he or she would have authorities over the personnel of the organization. yesterday senior administration officials said that petreaus is out. he will no longer be considered for national security advisor. then today on "fox news sunday" reince priebus said there is zero truth to the reports that petraeus and harward were passed over because they wanted more control. >> the new nsa director will have total and complete say effort to makeup of the nsc. there is no demand made by president trump on any candidate for nsa director at all. reporter: president trump will be interviewing four candidates. lieutenant general robert caslen. keith kellogg, john bolton and h.r. mcmaster. usually john bolton is here every sunday. he has been here the last decade. he has another interview today. reporter: he's got a good excuse. eric: the president a lot of blowback and controversy over him labeling the media the enemy of the people and he's constantly using the term "fake news." will this tun? reporter: there is no sign of this war with the media thawing anytime soon. he said they were enemies of the american people. at the rally in melbourne he spent a significant portion of his opening remarks bashing the media. he said he wanted to speak without the filter of fake news. today trains priebus took on one alleged fake news story that members of the trump campaign had been in constant contact with russian officials. he shot that down. >> i can assure you. i have been approved to say this. the top levels of the intelligence community have assured me that that story is not only inaccurate. by the many grossly overstated and it was wrong. and there is nothing to it. reporter: he called that report complete garbage. there is no sign of this war with the media thawing anytime soon. arthel: president trump is releasing a new immigration order this week and a new "washington post" report is giving a glimpse into how the president's order might be implemented. garrett? reporter: the basis for this report is a pair of draft memos allegedly from homeland security secretary john kelly laying out trump's plan to secure the border. guidelines to empower federal agencies to more egressively detain and deport those in the country illegally. plans to hire 10,000 additional agents and new procedure to speed up deportation hearings, rather than detaining them until they have had a hearing which can be months or years later. the "post" reports that they are reviewing the draft amendment. the president has indicated that he plans to release a new executive order on immigration this past week. own oklahoma senator preview offed what changes he expects to see. >> you look at the way it was rolled out and the lack of clarity, legal permanent residents, would they be able to have access to legal travel. that needed to be corrected in the first executive order. they say they will correct that in the second executive order. reporter: there is no discussion of overturning daca, the obama administration's program that allowed children who came here illegally to remain here on work permits. arthel: exit polling shows immigration was a top issue for people in florida. martha maccallum will host a town hall event right here on the fox news channel. eric: ryan priebus denying those stories about russian interference. he said they are boeing us spy stories. there are fears that the russians did help the president with a russian-friendly top trump aide. that will be the focus centered on potential russian actions. there is no evidence of any collaboration so far. the intelligence agency sent requests to a dozen agencies and individuals seeking to preserve all the communications about russia. that being reported by the a.p. this as lyndsey graham is backing the move. >> i hope element brace the idea that as the leader of the free world he should be working with us to punish russia. and mr. lavrov, i hope you suffer continues for what you and your regime have been doing to democracy. eric: joining us now, lieutenant colonel michael walsh, also author of with worried diplomat." good to see you. where will this investigation go? on one side of the aisle you have allegations there was cooperation. and you have heated denials from reince priebus this is not true. >> i can tell you from my time in the white house that everyone who works there including senior cabinet officials have to preserve every memo and email, even your written notebooks have to be preserved. they will send out a preservation notice. i find it a little bit ironic coming from senate democrats. this notion that things may not be preserved after they turned a blind eye to 30,000 emails our form secretary of state clinton deleted. eric: who has the transscripts of these phone calls. what about your personal notes if you are a private citizen. during the campaign, are those preserved. >> does it have to be preserved in it's once you are in and once you are actually sitting in the seat. but again the transcripts of calls they were talking to a foreign leader. every foreign embassy in washington. awful our embassies abroad know we are trying to listen to each other. obviously whether it's the russians or the chinese believe they have secure communications back the their capitals and weee compromised. eric: one member of the security council once told me, i hope there are 6, if not 4. let's look at the three allegations. puff mike flynn who is now out. paul manafort as we know was a campaign consultant with a pro-russian ukraine party. he denied any wrongdoing. carter page who had business in russia. he denied any wrongdoing. you have all these chief niels on one side, but then you have public accusations on the other side. though the reports say there is no evidence so far of any collaboration between the trump campaign and the russian intelligence. >> i find it personally a fantastic stretch to think that a presidential campaign was openly and deliberately cavorting with a potential adversary to subject tremendous fiewng our political process. i think the senate will run it course. i want to see us move on. we have u.s. hostages held abroad. eric: if you have that issue why should we move on? >> well, that would be incredibly serious. i think the senate should exercise its oversight and look into it. i don't know how farther going to get in the private citizens contact with russia or another country. once they are in the seat and part of the u.s. government and they have preservation acts in place, then they need to hand over everything requested. eric: the cap pain director for hillary clinton and corey lewandowski fired up this week. >> trump won't deny it. and we just don't know the facts. we haven't seen the transcripts of these phone calls. we need to get all the information out there. we need a 9/11-style independent commission to sort through this because this can never happen again. >> there is no evidence that the russians had anything to do with the outcome of the election. eric: all these years james baker wouldn't allegedly have had contact with the russians or h.w. bush's campaign. why would they supposedly be talking to the russians if that happened and we have denials it didn't. >> no idea. i don't think it was necessarily smart politics because it's going to get turned against you by your primarily republican colleagues and by the democrats. they did it. i'm not optimistic they are going to get to the bottom of what happened. that said. there are a lot of reasons why hillary clinton lost the election. i find hard to believe that's the only one. we are hu -- we have huge issues domestically and abroad to deal with. we need to get this ball rolling. i have colleagues in the state department and defense department and other agencies that are essentially frozen because they only have their cabinet secretary, no deputies, no unders. and that's incredibly hard to do. eric: hopefully by this week they will choose a national security advisor who will stay in the job. eric: thank you for joining us, montana colonel michael walsh. arthel: more rain on the horizon after at least five we'll were killed in california storms. a massive pacific storm swept through friday. and in northern california, nearly 200 people were evacuated when crimes began to overflow from heavy downpours. and that region bracing for more. adam, what can you tell us? >> it's now northern california really gearing up to see heavy rain. it began last night and it will get worse later today and through the overnight hours running into monday. let's look at this. we are beginning to zoom down into the san francisco area where we'll be seeing some of this rain piling up. take a look across other portion. running farther inland farther north perhaps even some snow there. but i'm expecting a real pileup north of san francisco where you will get some training. you see more cloud cover in the atlantic. that will be training in. i think we'll be talking about some rainfall through san francisco running all the way up into the mountains getting closer to 6 inches, 8 inches of rainfall running through the overnight hours. then we'll be talking about snow in the cascade mountains. this system will drift off farther into the center of the country, there will be know falling in poargtss of nevada and arizona. but that's just what's happening out west. anyone else across the country knows we are dealing with temperatures a good 25 to 35 degrees above average. it's a warm one for most. but for the west coast, that's what we'll be paying close attention to. >> thank you very much for that weather report. >> it was really odd. it happened at a hawaiian airport after a man actually fought his way running out on to the tarmac. what authorities are saying about that security breach. arthel: president trump planning to replace his first immigration order with a new one. our next guest says the president will have more success this time around. you don't let anything keep you sidelined. that's why you drink ensure. with 9 grams of protein and 26 vitamins and minerals. for the strength and energy to get back to doing... ...what you love. ensure. always be you. and her new mobile wedding business.tte at first, getting paid was tough... until she got quickbooks. now she sends invoices, sees when they've been viewed and-ta-dah-paid twice as fast for free. visit quickbooks-dot-com. companies across the state are york sgrowing the economy, otion. with the help of the lowest taxes in decades, a talented workforce, and world-class innovations. like in plattsburgh, where the most advanced transportation is already en route. and in corning, where the future is materializing. let us help grow your company's tomorrow - today at esd.ny.gov it's about moving forward not back. it's looking up not down. it's feeling up thinking up living up. it's being in motion... in body in spirit in the now. boost. it's not just nutrition. it's intelligent nutrition. with 26 vitamins and minerals and 10 grams of protein. all in 3 delicious flavors. it's choosing to go in one direction... up. boost. be up for it. eric: police in hawaii investigating a bizarre death. a man in his 40s forced his way past security at honolulu international airport. he was arrested, but authorities say became unresponsive while in custody and was pronounced dead a hospital. france's foreign anyone minister saying any hacks by the russians into their elections are unacceptable. the kremlin is denying any involvement. arthel: a new immigration order is coming this week from mr. trump. he promised to address the concerns brought up by federal judges. the president at his florida rally yesterday offering some more details. >> i ordered the department homeland security and the department of justice to coordinate on a plan to destroy transnational criminal cartels which are all over the united states, and we are going to stop the drugs from pouring into your country, into your community, into your cities. we have taken historic action to secure the southern border, and i have ordered the construction of a great border wall which will start very shortly. >> for more on this we go to jamie weinstein. jamie, thanks for being here. we just heard some elements from the president, and also according to a post report, john kelly's new guidelines will be giving federal authorities more power to aggressively detain and deport illegal immigrants at the border including hiring thousands of additional agents, expand the corral of those considered priority for deportation. speeding up deportation hearings and getting local law enforcement to help make arrests. is this new direction the right direction? >> it's clearly what donald trump promised on the campaign trail. i have promised he would get tougher than the previous administration. these memos if they are released, it's my understanding they will do the things you mentioned. but what's interesting is way it's not doing, and what we don't have any idea that will come down the pike. for instance, the daca recipients, the children of illegal immigrants who were brought here when they were young, and president obama issued an order to protect. we have no evidence they will be subject to this deportation. it looks like donald trump will keep that in place. he says he will deal with that with heart. you see the people around him like steve bannon hop ran breitbart * before. they wanted the presidential candidate to pledge whenr they would remove daca. and it doesn't seem the president is going there now. arthel: he said i have a heart, i have children and grandchildren. he says this is a tough one. he interest made it he would be taking care of the children. >> i think there is something interesting. we can't read to much into it. by ith there is the possibility donald trump has the potential to upends the immigration debate. within one hand's getting tougher on immigration, but he's not showing he's so tough he wants to remove children who came here as illegals. he can go to congress and push for kinds of an immigration overhaul that would legalize some of the people in the united states. at the same time building a wall and also kind of streamlining legal immigration. he could be a nixon to china on that issue where a lot of people didn't think he might be able to go. arthel: a lot of people are watching worldwide. secretary kelly is at the munich conference this weekend. he reassured the conference the president's reboot of the program. the president says his executive order is designed to insure the safety of americans. how is this received with world leaders and should it matter? >> the president has to do what he believes will protect the american people no matter what world leaders say. what secretary kelly said over the weekend, it sounds like donald trump learned a lesson of his first immigration executive order which is having a lot of legal battles. this has gone through an interagency process to make sure sit conformed with u.s. law. beam with legal advice as and green cards will not be involved with this order. it seems like donald trump learned lessons from this where he can institute his own policy while not doing things that might get number trouble with the courts. arthel: i'm sure you will be talking about this on the jamie weinstein podcast show as well. eric: who will be the nation's next national security advisor? there are interviews in palm beach today. general michael flynn had to step down over those alleged contact with the russians. we'll have details on the leading candidates. reports are saying john bolton may be in the lead. u.s. troops playing a role in defeeting isis in iraq. an update on the fight against isis retaking mosul straight ahead here on the fox news channel. .. i love how usaa gives me the peace of mind and the security just like the marines did. at one point, i did change to a different company with car insurance, and i was not happy with the customer service. we have switched back over and we feel like we're back home now. the process through usaa is so effortless, that you feel like you're a part of the family. i love that i can pass the membership to my children, and that they can be protected. we're the williams family, and we're usaa members for life. call usaa today to talk about your insurance needs. ...one of many pieces in my life. so when my asthma symptoms kept coming back on my long-term control medicine. i talked to my doctor and found a missing piece in my asthma treatment with breo. once-daily breo prevents asthma symptoms. breo is for adults with asthma not well controlled on a long-term asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. breo won't replace a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems. breo is specifically designed to open up airways to improve breathing for a full 24 hours. breo contains a type of medicine that increases the risk of death from asthma problems and may increase the risk of hospitalization in children and adolescents. breo is not for people whose asthma is well controlled on a long-term asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. once your asthma is well controlled, your doctor will decide if you can stop breo and prescribe a different asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. do not take breo more than prescribed. see your doctor if your asthma does not improve or gets worse. ask your doctor if 24-hour breo could be a missing piece for you. learn more about better breathing at mybreo.com. arthel: donald trump getting back to the business of governing one day after his campaign rally in florida. mr. condit interview in at least four candidates for national security adviser at his estate. oren blanchard is live in washington with the latest good morning. >> high. last night of god air force one many want the job of national security advisers then we can expect a decision made for the next couple days. first a look at who's in the running. armor lieutenant general keith kellogg, the act the national security adviser after a general plan was asked to resign last week. a longtime supporter of the president serving as his foreign policy advisers during the campaign. then there's former ambassador to the united nations, john bolton, appointed by president george w. bush in 2005 served over a year in the role. however, both may struggle to gain support with some libertarian leaning republicans. another candidate, army lieutenant journal h.r. mcmaster, a silver star recipient and decorated officer. he has a reputation for questioning the status quo as the status quo as he did in his book a major election of duty. the other meeting at the southern white house as a superintendent of west point military academy, lieutenant general robert kaplan. kaplan served in a number of boards and is a bronze star recipient. the president's first choice for vice admiral robert harwood turned on the position citing family reasons and general david petraeus was in consideration as a white house officials tell us he is no longer a finalist. meanwhile, the white house press secretary said more needs to be added to the list. the national security council still without a permanent leader and is also embroiled in another controversy after a senior staff member was abruptly fired this week when he was critical of the president and c-span during an off the record roundtable. they have confirmed the staffer is no longer with the nfc. arthel: lauren blanchard, thank you for the update. eric: who will get the nod? let's bring in mike baker, president of diligence llc of global intelligence and security. we have three military men and diplomat. but qualification best fit the job? the two previous pics, one with a general. the other vice admiral. >> there's been a history of having military officers in the past, and previous administrations. so it is not unusual president trump would be looking at these generals. john bolton obviously well known, sort of a hard edged conservative. i think he would have trouble getting a lot of support. necessarily from democrats on the hill, but particularly mr. bolton. when you look at these candidates, they would all fit the bill. they would all be very good. what he really wants in this position and national security adviser role is an independent thinker, somebody who in effect isn't afraid to lose their job or isn't afraid to stand up and say i disagree with you, mr. president and this is where we have to part ways. at this point in time in the white house, i think you really need an independent voice. it's a bit disconcerting if in fact the in fact the senior staff has has just reported was let go because they disagree by differing opinion from president trump and mr. bannon. more than anything, you want a strong pragmatic independent thinker taken over this position. >> if you mention that, picking up on that point, h.r. mcmaster wrote the book, dereliction of duty, all about how the military caved under lbj. he was famously known for micromanaging the vietnam war and picking out the bombing targets in north vietnam. >> way. anybody wants to understand what it's all about should pick that book. it is an excellent read and you're absolutely right. but he's basically saying if he is criticizing the military for caving to civilians in the conduct or at least in the strategizing of the war. eventually, ultimately it is the president's decision no matter who is enough is. it is the president decision no matter what we are talking about. eric: picking up on that, obviously it is the president's decision. keith kellogg lieutenant journal has been an advisor to donald trump. he's acting national security adviser. but that gave him the potential inside track? >> the fact that he is there right now perhaps. it is hard to tell. i'm not saying anything other people haven't thought. it is hard to understand what decisions they are going to make day-to-day. my point being when you sit around a table, the national security adviser is critical in the conduct of any white house. so when you have people sitting around a table, if it's just groupthink and there's nobody there strong enough to stand up to the president or his closest advisers, then you've got a problem. you can't have it. when there is an issue, a crisis brewing somewhere in the world and not land on my desk and most people sit around the guys, everybody turns to the president and says yes, sir, whatever he's saying is an issue. >> you know, one person and finally john bolton is going to be blunt. he's a fox news contributor. i covered him as u.n. ambassador and islamist program in this hour every sunday. the last 10 years. he's not here today because he's got this other interview down in mar-a-lago today. he is the chairman of the keystone institute. that could be close to the president's heart because they focus on radical islamic terrorism. but i showed this clip. he warned about iran and russia making is to test the administration now. here's what mr. mr. bolton had to say. >> iran continued its provocative behavior. we can look for more than in the days to come. i believe they may be prepared to make some kind of test of strength within the administration. not necessarily military. not that they want to provoke conflict but they want to see how much of this is mapped and how much of it is real. we are in a dangerous. and i think it calls for making sure we've got a strategy. eric: i would imagine it is the same advice right now to the president. >> absolutely. lasseter bolton has been a critic of the iran deal which stays with president trump and what he has been saying as it relates to be every relates to be every ideal purity is also very hard edged against the russians and others will particularly north korea as well. there may be a good fit there. the department of defense and dni and elsewhere, we've got contrary of military officers. at the end of the day, and the president may think i can afford to put a civilian in this position because i have other officers in key roles in the new administration. eric: mike baker, we will see. an answer of the next few days. reporting diligently on that. always nice to see you. arthel: u.s. secretary jim mattis cooper of u.s. involvement in the battle for the western half of iraq's second-largest city, mosul. general mattis saying u.s. troops are very close to the fighting, assisting iraqi forces against isis as they did recently in eastern mosul. >> the u.s. forces continue in the same world that they were in an east mosul and the coalition forces are in support of this operation and we will continue, as you know, with the accelerated after to destroy isis. arthel: secretary mattis says the pentagon is considering whether to add more troops in afghanistan to take out the taliban. general mattis and the united arab emirates on his first trip to the middle east since taking office. eric: vice president mike pence making a strong promise to the members of nato about the u.s. commitment to the alliance. also sent a warning about military spending. the administration earning members to pony up. will this reassure our allies? >> our allies have got to be reassured that the united states has a strong leader who is reassuring them that if going to back them and he's had his secretary of state, secretary of defense doing just that this week with our european allies. em and with safelite's exclusive "on my way text" she knew exactly when i'd be there, so she didn't miss a single shot. i replaced her windshield giving her more time for what matters most. tech: how'd ya do? [whisper: rocket] arthel: vice president mike pence making his first trip overseas this weekend to reassure america's allies of our commitment to my meeting with foreign diplomats in munich yesterday. the vice president promising the u.s. would address violence in ukraine despite president trump's call for improved relations with russia and urging nato patience to spend more on the military. >> i wanted to make it clear that president trump's commitment is strong, historic, important. to sustain a commitment, it is important that our allies up to their word. >> with regards ukraine, we must hold russia accountable and demand that they honor the minsk agreement beginning by the escalating violence in ukraine. arthel: joining me now, the fellow -- a fellow with the foreign policy initiative for the daily piece. i would assert the message to nato. vice president pence saying to the nation's same lesson, we are committed. the president is committed to nato, that is also reminding them of a candidate trump says, which is a guy to pay your fair share, wanting to get all the members of nato up to 2% of their gdp by 2024. i ask you, the message was clear, but is it enough to send vice president pence on the road at this early stage when you have many allies that are still trying to figure out president trump? >> they are very worried. they don't understand no thought of washing can president trump is going to be going in may and brussels for a nato summit to reassure the allies. i think there is a sort of obsession with money and payments into nato. i think nato is much more important than the amount of money the members contribute to the alliance. the value of the alliance is inherent in the south. if nato members are paying any money, it would still be worthwhile to have nato because we have peace and prosperity in europe for seven years because of nato. over the past 70 years. arthel: angela merkel pointed out u.s. spending is important, but there are other ways to ensure security and order. >> there o commitment to us. the members of soldiers and european nations who fought alongside our troops in afghanistan and died in sacrifice. there are other measurements of support than just monetary contributions. >> you heard the vice president reassuring everyone there that the u.s. will hold russia to it commitment, to a permanent cease-fire in ukraine. how do you think.message was received and would it be a better message from the president? >> it would do the russians would not adhere to see spiders over the past three years the war has gone on in ukraine. there can't really breaking them. the russians really only understand power and force, which is why we modeled the need to maintain sanctions placed on russia during the obama administration. they may need to increase them because that field a message that gets the republican are put. arthel: we are simply not diminishing vice president couldn't impact. sending and delivering direct messages and of course president trump can't be all places at all times. it's okay for him to send diplomats on the road to give messages. i'm putting up some of this because of the early stage is an unconventional president with many questions they wouldn't have at this stage. >> there are reports coming out the administration wanted to negotiate removing them. there's mixed messages coming out. we made one clear message that unless russia changes its behavior in ukraine, sanctions will not be lifted. arthel: before iraq, are there any actions, policy plans a remark by president trump is fired that perhaps profoundly impact foreign policy in any way and if so, what would that be? >> one thing he could really do is say we are going to support permanent bases in eastern europe. the border of nato has moved east after the cold war and we have new allies. the baltic states that are now much closer to russia and we need to reassure them and that their presence eastward. arthel: already. you've got a new book coming out. the end of europe. i am actually holding the thing out. it is coming out march 7th. thank you very much. take care. eric: well, it wasn't just any rocket launch. >> three, two, one, lift off of the falcon nine to the space station on the first commercial launch of the kennedy space center. eric: space acts successfully sending up the rocket this morning. but a bad moment historic, when we come back.
