What weve got here is a load of Trump Supporters who are hanging out right now in the middle of Freedom Plaza. This is, as you mentioned right around the corner from the white house, down the block from the Capitol Building on pennsylvania avenue. The official program just started a short bit ago. The trump mode cade did drive through, did a little lap before the president went out to his golf course in virginia. This rally is a product of several groups and hash tags, names like women for trump, maga, and stop the steal. The women for trump have the programs, well have congresswoman louie gohmert. And theyre trying to organize the group to go a mile and a half up to the Capitol Building and the Supreme Court. For the last few hours, theyve been life Live Streaming and four more years. And many are picking up that the election was stolen, no proof of that. The d. C. Police are monitoring and the city closed down the perimeter. You have passionate people and trump flags and the like and steadily streaming in and police here. And also supposed to be counter protests weve seen scheduled online and havent been that many of them. Weve had folks come down with biden flags and this is the district of columbia, voted overwhelmingly from biden and harris. And from what weve seen all has been peaceful. Back to you guys. I want you to double down something i heard you say earlier for neil, which is good news for all of us who live here in washington, not a lot of violence, not a lot of threats, not a lot of sort of agitators in this crowd that youve seen. Is that right . Is that now holding a couple hours later . Thats what weve seen. Gillian, what we have here, this is the basis of the protest so Freedom Plaza is an open plaza in the middle of pennsylvania avenue right around the corner from the white house. So that plaza right now is filled with Trump Supporters. They have the d. C. The government has closed down Downtown Washington so youve had some different groups of people who sort of walked off or Walking Around the downtown area. We dont have too much visibility on them we dont know whats going on three or four blocks from here. But the main part weve seen downtown, we havent seen any sense of violence. You hear some of the talk, but a few biden supporters who have come down here, almost sound like two fans from two different baseball teams going at each other from an away game. But nothing thus far escalated to violence and youve got u. S. Park police and the metropolitan Police Department, who have a very solid presence here. Were looking i know its hard to see, but youre looking at a camera, up, a down on the Freedom Plaza and the crowd continues to grow and pack in. What do these folks want . I get the stop the steal, but whats the second half of the question. It seems reasonable people can agree that its more than likely that joe biden is going to be inaugurated on january 20th. Is it that they really believe that President Trump will get a second term or complain that things arent fair . Yes, what youve got here is youve got a lot of different comments regarding that. Youve had some biden supporters and Trump Supporters going back and forth. Often what youll hear is that the media does not call these elections. Basically, what youre hearing from the white house is what youre hearing from some of the supporters, and even though you have a situation where the government vote totals now, they havent been certified, but the vote totals that politicians have been using, democrat and republican, to declare victory this year, and for decades prior to this, show that joe biden has won this election, but youve still got folks here who are saying, somehow, some way theres going to be an intervention, whether theres an unfounded claim that theres been Election Fraud or for the president and four more consecutive years for the preds, but youve just got a lot of support for President Trump. This feels a lot like a rally you would have attended a couple of weeks ago before the election happened. Its a lot of support. A partylike atmosphere in many ways and you cant say that the folks here are downtrodden or feel like its been defeat. It feels like something. I was at a trump rally in North Carolina the week before the election, a similar vibe. Two weeks before that, was in florida and wisconsin. All the same. Very consistent feeling and youve got that down here today and youve still got people scre streaming into this rally. I think it was supposed to start at noon. This was taken by the press pool, which travels with the president so they would have left the south lawn of the white house, and then come through this area here, which is on the east side of the white house. Only about a block or two away and this was about 10 30 this morning as the president is on his way out to play golf. And you can see his crowd of quite enthusiastic group of supporters. We have some video on the ground as well. People running along and cheering and chanting with the motorcade. Unclear if the president is going to make another driveby when he comes back this afternoon, but weve seen no preparations for any kind of speech or any kind of remarks by the president or coming out and saying hello. Its a little reminiscent, gillian, of the drive from walter reed when he left walter reed, he was there because of covid and waved out the window. I was also thinking looking at the president s motorcade driving through the crowds, it looks a lot like inauguration day, you know. Leland the crowds are better controlled on inauguration day. Faintly. But theres a lot of construction for the reviewing stand for president elect biden and his family. And that goes on regardless. So youre hearing construct. In the distance you can hear faint excitement for the large group. Theyre going to be leaving Freedom Plaza and marching to the Supreme Court and thats away from the white house and were not going to hear as much of that. President trump went through the crowd earlier today excited on his way to golf. Theres a video of the president smiling, giving the thumbs up as he passed by and several staffers retweeting, tweets about this massive really going on right now in washington d. C. Some calling it the million maga march. As i mentioned, the president is golfing at his club in Northern Virginia and at this point there are still no plans to concede. No hint of any concession. Leland, yesterday he came out on camera in the rose garden to speak for the first time in eight days, thats the longest time that weve seen him since hes been president not get in front of the camera and talked about operation warped speed, spurred by his administration. The good news he says that vaccine will be available to the masses by april and while talking about the vaccine he singled out new york and the states governor, andrew cuomo. Listen here.
