The queens has expressed her disappointment at the decision by the couple to lead much more private lives if the future but she says she understands the difficulties theyve been having being in the public eye. So probably about three have said they do, they just need a fourth person to say that. They are waiting to hear what the house says and what the white house says to decide whether they want to. Well, remember those three or four that weve mentioned are leally tough spots really tough spots, vulnerable situations for their reelections and feeling a lot of pressure at home to have a fair trial, to have a full trial, and so they are hearing from constituents. Theyre also getting a lot of heat from organizations that are airing ads in their states, doing robocalls, all sorts of things. So they are hearing from people and theyre feeling that. So i think that theyll wait. They dont want to say anything until after these Opening Statements from the house and from the white house to make that decision. Eric . Eric we have a list of o wants whom to testify. The democrats candidates, john bolton as you mentioned as well as the president wants hunter biden and the former vice president. Theres talk of a one on one deal. Do you think it is at all possible that well see maybe john bolton or somebody, he said he wants to testify, is waiting for Court Decisions and then hunter biden. Right. I think thats what Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell is afraid of, hes afraid of its going to be sort of a freeforall. If the democrats ge someone, the republicans want someone. He doesnt want a long, protracted trial, he doesnt want this to go on for two months. He wants to get it over as quickly as possible and get on with the rest of the business. You know, get on to campaigning, get on to everything else. So hes going to be very carefully watching this. I think even though we knew that the president wanted witnesses and hes been talking about that with all sorts of people, i understand that he wants hunter biden, he wants others. He has come to Mitch Mcconnells thinking, he knows the safer route for him and for republicans is no witnesses at all. And so i think hes really letting Mitch Mcconnell take that lead and do what he thinks is the right thing to do. Eric the republicans do that you know what the democrats are going to say, theyre going to say the fix is in, they that the republicans stacked the deck and its an unfair process but the republicans could say oh, yeah, okay, wheres hunter. Right. I mean, youre exactly right. I think no matter what happens here, the democrats can say the republicans controlled the process. They control the rules. Theyre in charge. And it wasnt a fair process. Theyre already saying that. Theyve been saying that for weeks. No matter who wins out and what witnesses are called, someone is going to be unhappy and someones going to say its unfair and so thats where 2020 comes in. Thats where the election comes in. Whats the negotiation there, to keep the american troops there, to keep stability over there, and to let iraq continue to be independent . Well, candidly, we havent handled it well, in my opinion. The Prime Minister had asked that the u. S. Send a delegation over so they could discuss the status of forces and the u. S. Troops in the region, you how that could be managed how that could be managed. The response from the secretary of state and others was to fuse their request and say well be happy to talk about cost sharing and burden sharing but theres no necessity for us to go over and talk about removal of u. Do you expect politics to get the best of the Democratic Senators who want President Trumps job or will they in fact remain patriotic and professional . Well, you know, its hard for me of to answer that. I think that they will all the take their oath very seriously. Theyve all said that, both republicans and democrats have said that. I dont think that the four president ial candidates who are senators are any different. Clearly, there is politics in this process and that will be making itself known, i think throughout the trial, but as far as these four sense senators goo doubt theyll focus on the trial and, look, i mean, there are some similar argument thats would be made at the trial compared to what theyre probably making on the trail, that these democrats dont President Trump should be in office and thats why theyre campaigning to be the democratic nominee. Arthel some of they im sure i cant say im sure but perhaps some of the president s defense team might point to these senators having personal reasons to go against the president. But how much will voters, jeff, especially undecided voters, being paying attention to how the candidates, senators, conduct themselves throughout the impeachment trial. I think its a good question. I mean, i suspect that some of these senators who are candidates will highlight any role that they play in the impeachment trial to the extent that they have a moment or ask a question or do a vote that they are proud of and that they want highlighted back in iowa and New Hampshire and the other early voting states. Theyll have to find some way to stay engaged with voters even though they are in washington and not out there shaking hands and knocking on doors. So well have to see how the trial progresses. Theres lots of questions obviously about how the trial is going to progress. But they have to be there. They made clear that they need to be there and they want to fulfill their constitutional duties even though its a little inconvenient. Arthel i have another thought but im going to go here. We know the four Democratic Senators dont think they should recuse themselves from the president s impeachment trial. And they will be there. But what about President Trump, will he appear at his impeachment trial to address the charges . Well, thats a good question. And i dont know the answer to that yet. Im not sure anybody knows the answer to the that yet. Thats one of the open questions along with will there be witnesseses. At this point, well find out more in the coming days, the trial really gets started on monday and excuse me, on tuesday is what i meant to say and after each sides makes their arguments theyll have a vote on witnesses. Whether or not President Trump decides to attend, i havent heard anything about that. There are some question marks about what hell be doing in the next couple weeks. He is somebody who obviously likes to follow these proceedings very closely, a trial thats affecting him obviously very, very directly is not one that he wont be watching. But he does have plans to go to switzerland for davos, the World Economic forum and one piece of his strategy and the white houses strategy has been to say, look, while democrats impeach the president , the president over here is doing his job for the country. Well, arthel, its really going to be based on a lot of these communications between mossimo, lorrie and singer. In order for them to really mount the defense, what it looks like theyre trying to say is, look, we thought these were actual contributions to the school. We didnt know it was going to a sham charity. In order to do that, theyre going to have to produce some sort of documentation, maybe from singer, that leads them to believe that thats the case. But i will say, in this new filing, theres a couple of points that are very damaging. First, mossimo puts contributions in quotation marks. Thats not going to be so good. It looks like he may have shirked a legitimate way to get one of his daughters into the school by refusing a private tour and having the application and instead of going that route with singer. They do have a very difficult case, from what we know right now from a defense perspective. Arthel although there are emails on record that suggest otherwise, isnt lori changing her defense from not knowing that she was being swept in this illegal current, but shes saying to now dont hate the player, hate the game. Reporter well, i think that what this has shown, firstly, its the queen reasserting control because as you know, when the statement was put out and that was a while ago now, harry and meghan did not inform senior members of the royal family and i think they were deeply hurt. There is no question that this solves what is at the heart of what was happening here and that was whether or not you could be a parttime member of the royal family, you do some royal duties, represent the queen and part of the commonwealth on the one hand and on the other hand you would perhaps participate in some sort of voiceovers for disney or various endorsements or whatever. This has drawn a line right over that, because its made absolutely clear that youre either a working royal or not and a Halfway House simply wont do. Hence, the fact that they will be not using their titles which effectually means being stripped of them and of course its quite a tough statement.
