quarantined as newark airport, this out of an abundance of caution according to the transportation security administration because of suspicious items found on board those planes. there's a shot of the fox five helicopter on the way to the newark airport to get a look. joining us now on the phone is philadelphia fire commissioner lloyd ayres. i know that some of your personnel met this plane. what can you tell us about the flight in philadelphia that is being quarantined right now? >> yes, we were dispatched during our -- at the airport about 6335, we went out at 9:22, got on scene and our company did help to isolate that aircraft, we had three occupants that were removed. right now we have all teams in place, starting a joint command center. we have fire, atf, police, homeland security, and fbi, and at this time, fbi has taken over as lead agency, and everything else that we do going forward will be coming from the fbi. jon: reminder to our viewers that these are cargo planes, not passenger planes, so the three persons that you took off i'm assuming, two pilots and perhaps a navigator or perhaps a replacement pilot? >> yes. this is all crew members related to this incident. these are all crew members. jon: all right. thanks very much, lloyd ayres is the philadelphia fire commissioner. there is the shot from philadelphia, a ups cargo plane that landed with some kind of a suspicious package on board. there is a report that it had some kind of a radiological component to it. another ups plane on the ground right now at newark liberty international airport, which that plane also has been quarantined because of a suspicious package. two planes, landing very shortly apart from each other, on major east coast airports, under quarantine and under watch because of a suspicious package on board. we'll keep an eye on it for you. jenna: another breaking story we're following, more fires shot in virginia, fbi investigators are on the scene there of the fourth shooting incident involving a military building here in two weeks' time. steve centanni is following these developments. what's the latest here? >> jenna, as you know, there have been the four shootings since october 17th, all on military-related facilities here in the washington, d.c. area and the fbi has linked the first three, they're trying to see if they can link this later one overnight. again, at the first target, marine corps museum near quantico, virginia, the fbi meantime saying they're urging this genman, whoever he is or whoever they are, to surrender -- to surrender, saying this person is already hurt o'clock, but doesn't want to hurt anybody else. the shootings took place when nobody would be hurt. the high profile shootings took place a few days early they are month, it actually happened october 19th at the pentagon, sometimes in the early morning hours, someone firing several shots at the pentagon itself on the side of the building facing a busy freeway, the bullets were lodged in two windows but they had not totally penetrated the windows, the highway was shut down for a while as investigators searched for shell cases but none were found. just this week, again in the early morning hours, someone took shots at a marine corps recruiting station in chantilly, not far from the pentagon or not far from quantico. they believe the person may have a grudge against the marines but the fbi is not saying what it might be. we are expecting a news conference to tell us what they know at this point but they've connected the 31st shootings that are investigated and now see tp-g they can connect the one today on the marine corps museum. jenna: thank you very much for the update. back to you as this story develops. lots of breaking news around the world today. hi everybody i'm jenna lee. we're going to get on the right camera in a second here! jon: we are. there are all kinds of breaking stories this morning. i'm jon scott, we're here in the fox news room, happening now, major back room drama involving the democrats' biggest gun, bill clinton, days before the election. with the balance of power in congress very much at stake, house republicans need to pick up 39 seats to take control from the, in the gop, the senate has to -- in the senate the gop has to take ten seats. jenna: and no, sir is central to the gop hopes. right now new questions about whether bill clinton asked democrat candidate kendrick meek to drop out, a strategy that could potentially tilt the race towards which are lee crist and defeat tea party-backed candidate marco rubio. on fox & friends this morning, meek admitted he spoke to clinton but denies they made any sort of a deal. >> i am in this race. i will be in this race, until tuesday at 7:00 p.m. central standard time. >> president clinton did not ask me, i did not tell him that i was going to get out of the race. i am on this show this morning to set the record straight, to the people of this great state. jenna: that's meek in his own words. we're all over this story. wendell goler is at the white house, covering the angle from there, we'll get to him in a moment but first to phil keating, live in miami. there's breaking news from the clinton camp. what's going on there? >> reporter: a senior adviser to the former president, telling fox news within the past hour about these back room negotiations which happened apparently in florida last week, saying president clinton absolutely did not suggest and urge congressman kendrick meek to quit and drop out of this race, but only said that if he did drop out, very likely, once republican, now independent governor charlie crist would then likely win, however, ultimately, it was up to meek and meek, of course, as you just heard, decided he's staying in this until the end. gen jen so what are we hearing from crist? are we hearing something different? >> well, charlie crist is the first one last night after the story broke by politico to confirm that these talks were happening. charlie crist, campaigning on the western side of the state this morning over in panama city, but he says talks were happening between crist's kphaeupb, meek's campaign and the clinton camp but governor crist says he doesn't remember exactly who initiated these talks. >> this is no surprise to anybody, i don't think. i think that smart democrats, common sense democrats, reach a conclusion that they wanted to try to make sure that the extreme candidate like marco rubio doesn't win. >> again, that senior aide to the clinton camp says it was absolutely governor charlie crist who first initiated these talks. jenna: so lots of talks, lots of speculation, a lot of reports, but as of right now, this is still a three-way race, right? republican marco rubio is ahead here. >> reporter: oh, absolutely. he's been ahead by double digits for weeks and weeks, however, the most recent poll came out yesterday morning, quinn peeiak university, and that shows the race tightening up a bit, rubio's lead over crist, just seven points, but look, a commanding, commanding lead over meek, he has been about 20 percent or less for many of the past several weeks. but the back room deals to possibly turn a three-way race into a two-way race is exactly what rubio says makes all americans sick. >> don't cut a deal with -- they'll cut a deal with anyone on any issue in order to perpetuate it forward. this is the kind of behavior that's brought us some of the worst public policy in our history. >> reporter: whether this would make a difference at this late stage in the game remains to be seen, 1.6 million floridians have already voted early, that is possibly half of the entire vote in the sunshine state. so whether two people combining their forces for one candidate could actually defeat marco rubio, that's for the political strategists to now analyze. jenna: good point there, phil, thank you very much, phil keating on a developing story in florida today. jon: right now, the white house is getting pulled into the controversy. did anyone in the obama administration ask kendrick meek to bow out in florida or did the white house ask bill clinton to once again help out in a dicey political situation as it did when joe sestak challenged senator arlen specter in pennsylvania's primary? wendell goler, live from the north lawn there, wendell, any involvement on the president's part or maybe any staffers close to him? >> jon, we're told the president wasn't aware of the talks, president obama, but a source close to former president clinton calls it the worst kept secret in the world, that the white house wanted kendrick meek to drop out of the race, believing that governor charlie crist had a better chance of beating republican marco rubio. unlike the situation with joe sestak, who former president clinton approached before he declared his candidacy, these talks between mr. clinton and kendrick meek apparently occurred fairly recently, though as was apparently the situation with sestak, meek says mr. clinton dropped hints but didn't apply any pressure. >> i'm not getting out of the race, he said okay, well, whatever you're going to do, you do. that's your decision. but i talked about charlie crist getting out of the race. i mean that, seems not to be an issue here. but the real issue is this, is that president clinton did not ask me, i did not tell him that i was going to get out of the race. i am on this show this morning to set the record straight. >> reporter: aides to former president clinton -- in fact the former president himself said it is up to kendrick meek to characterize the conversation, jon. jon: i imagine charlie crist doesn't have any intention of getting out of the race. what does he say about all of this? >> the bombshell here is that sources say that charlie crist agreed to caucus with democrats in the senate if, in fact, kendrick meek dropped out of the race and he, charlie crist, won. now, as you say, crist -- charlie crist denies this, and sources say it's not surprising that he would deny this, since that would tend to put off some of his conservative supporters, but crist says he did talk to kendrick meek about dropping out. >> yes, we did talk about it and we talked about it because of the fact that doing what's right for florida and trying to do what's right for america is stopping marco rubio from being united states senator from florida because he doesn't really represent florida values, that he's an extreme, right wing tea party candidate that most floridians don't support. >> crist says he did talk to someone at the white house about this, he won't say who it was, our greta van u.s.ern went through the names of several of the president's most senior advisers, and crist would not say that it was one of them, jon. jon: wendell goler at the white house. so much political intrigue with just a few days to go. thanks wendell. jenna: let's move to another hot race here, a brand new poll has democrat richard pwhr*e men thall maintaining a solid lead over republican linda mcmahon in the connecticut senate race, the new merriam river group poll showing the state attorney general with an eight-point lead there. mcmilitary ahon trails significantly, specifically among female voters according to the poll's director. she's been crit side for the way her wrestling empire portrays women but that's certainly not stopping her, mcmahon has already outspent blumenthal 16-1 and pledged to spend as much as $50 million before election day. jon: across the country in california, a brand new poll shows incumbent and democratic senator barbara boxer with a lead over her republican challenger carly fiorina, a new field poll has boxer eight points ahead of the former hewlett-packard ceo, thanks to strong support from independent voters. boxer is trying to win her fourth term. it is fiorina's first run for public office. jenna: back to breaking news here, remember, we have those two suspicious packages on two different ups planes, one in philadelphia and one in newark, so in pennsylvania, and in the new york area, rick leventhal is following these developments from our breaking news desk. anything more, rick, that we should know about the two different scenarios? >> we know the fbi, department of homeland security and transportation security administration are all investigating these possibly suspicious items on board these cargo planes that landed at both newark and philadelphia international airports, as you mentioned. the tsa has released a statement which reads, quote, out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being investigated by law enforcement officials and they are moved -- have moved to this area where they can search the planes, while air traffic continues in and out of both airports, so if you're traveling you probably won't be affected at least not yet by these incidents but the tsa and other federal authorities, taking this very seriously, investigating cargo planes in both philadelphia and newark airport. what you're looking at now are some aerial -- it says newark, but this is not obviously the airport, but again, federal authorities investigating both of these situations for possibly suspicious packages on board these planes. we know that in philadelphia, apparently a crew member on board a u.s. flight noticed a suspicious package on the plane that he thought had radiological components to it and that's why he then called officials who then sparked that investigation. not sure what sparked the newark situation but again, federal authorities at both airports investigating cargo planes for possible suspicious packages, jenna. jenna: very odd to have two of these different stories pop up at the same time. we'll continue to work on this development. rick leventhal, thank you for the update. >> sure. jon: let's continue the political coverage with tight races across the country, voters getting ready to decide who win the balance of power in washington. our chief political correspondent carl cameron was front and center forme of t. jenna: maybe he should be more front and center with us. did you have any idea that carl was so tall? jon: i've seen him in person before, but he's always out on the road so we rarely see him in the newsroom should -- newsroom. >> life on the bus, trains, planes, and we've had a lot of emphasis on the senate because there are so many celebrity candidates there but the house numbers continue to shift and we see analysts raise estimates as to how many democratic seats could flip. take a look at this latest map of the 100 most contested races across the country, when we throw it up there, look at that polka dot of blues, those are house, democratically held seats that are considered vulnerable and competitive and if you squint closely you can see a handful of red dots, those are the truly contested republican races, it's a 9-1 overwhelming majority of vulnerable democratic seats. that's one of the reasons republicans are so enthusiastic. a good thing to watch, let's throw up the map of the blue dog democrats, fiscally moderate democrats, many of whom across the country spent a tremendous amount of time this year at odds with the obama administration, saying no, we have problems with the public health care option, we don't like the stimulus, we think the cap and trade bill is bad, 54 blue dogs, most voted against all of those things and at least half will get blown out. we used to refer to them as fiscally conservative but because some did in fact vote for the stimulus bill we had to adjust that to a fiscally moderate moniker. the last thing is where they stand on the majority and a good illustration is in massachusetts, there's a democratic incumbent congressman, bill keating, in massachusetts, probably the most liberal blue state in the country, and he will not and has flatly refused to say whether or not he'll endorse nancy pelosi for speaker. when it gets to something like that that the massachusetts democrat won't say it, the only thing worse would be a northern california democrat, and the problem is san francisco happens to be nanc we pelosi and she'll vote for herself, but they are leaving in droves across the country. jon: obviously if the republicans win the house that books a moot point. >> and john boehner becomes speaker of the house and that changes everything and already we're beginning to see republicans making promises, but it's things they'll talk about with the agenda, how they will cut taxes, how spending is reduced, not anywhere near the specifics democrats want but a clear indication that they're getting ready to start looking at this. jon: like it in the newsroom? >> it ain't the parking lot, the candidates aren't here, but it's fun seeing everybody in office. jenna: that's great. >> i'll go back on the campaign trail i'm guessing on wednesday, not necessarily for the 2012 candidates but probably for the recounts. jenna: great, thank you as always. speaking of different news items, you never know, they could potentially affect the election. you never know. want to take to you live pictures, do we have this, guys, this is of queens now, we're continuing to watch the developments of these new -- i should say quote unquote new suspicious packages, this is a ups headquarters, i'm assuming, guys -- if you fill me in on my ears, that would be great -- >> ups offices in queens, that's what i'm going with until i'm told differently, we have suspicious packages on two ups planes, one what landed in philadelphia a little earlier today, one that landed in newark a little earlier today, new jersey, and this is -- sorry, this is newark, new jersey. well, this is breaking news, we're continuing to watch, you're learning things as we're learning it as well, so we're doing our best to bring you up to date on the facts and make sure we get them to you correctly. as we do that and work on some of those pictures, let's bring in bob strang, a former agent, a counterterrorism expert. just to get your thoughts, bob, on these reports, again, we don't know what's inside some these suspicious packages, and i'm looking, you can hear maybe on my microphone as we get these alerts, i'm getting another alert and i'm going to check into it, a u.s. cargo flight from yemen to chicago was stopped in london but again this is unconfirmed at this time and it's just coming in on the wires. as i said, we're just watching this developing story. what goes through your mind when you hear these different reports and what do you make of it so far? >> this is the kind of thing that is clearly a softer area, when it comes to the@? full security and safety? that we see compared to commercial airlines. just yesterday in newark, they started to do the full body screening so, that all passengers getting onñ airplanings would have the photographs taken of their body so that you could see if there were any weapons, if there were any type of bombs, so forth, so while we're focused on getting passengers safe on planes, the terrorist groups and al-qaeda, they're looking in the other direction, they're looking where we don't have this type of security, where they are vulnerable and they can get the materials and balls and explosives on the airplanes, so every time we think we're making head way in one area, we're falling back in another area and they're pretty smart, they know where to look, they know what to do, they know what our soft targets are. jenna: bob, let me bring everybody to date as we get information. the suspicious package we're looking into on a u.s. cargo -- on a ups cargo plane in the philadelphia area, another one in the newark, new jersey area, that's the live picture we're seeing on this screen. what i was referencing in queens, new york was another delivery truck that was being checked but not much information on that at this time and i'm seeing one other additional wire here again ab
