you want to live in a world where an island called taiwan to be taken by china and 90% the chips are made in taiwan they would have a economy. you just want to let putin take whatever he wants in europe? as i think we need to do that. we've got to give taiwan the ability to defend themselves. though i hope that we will find a way to get to taiwan exactly what they need. look, we believe in one china policy but we also believe mainland china cannot try to take taiwan over by force. we have a lot of tools in our toolkit to used to make that a reality. but bottom line is we have to make sure taiwan has one needs to defend itself. i agree we have to train, we have to make equipment availab available. the experiences from ukraine show us of the given capacity, they have the will they read judge, reconsider their strategy and trying to take over the island by force. shannon: arabs are there technical difficulties there hopefully you can hear me okay. next question is a follow-up on that. there are concerns about our ability to supply come to taiwan based on the fact we've had to send so much ukraine. the report to congress late last year that came to you said this break the diversion of existing stocks of weapons and munitions to ukraine has exacerbated a sizable backlog in the delivery of weapons already prefer cell to taiwan undermining the islands readiness. so, there also warnings other key military and the u.s. can take years to backfill. how do we manage these competing obligations knowing china probably senses that deficit there? there could be other conflicts arise around the world. the first thing we need to do, is to budget for next fiscal year to a bipartisan budget that stronger national defense, that replenishes our supply chain so that we have the military equipment we need to take care of our own internal security issues as well as help the ukrainians and the taiwanese filter security commitments. that means let's put aside the politics of the debt ceiling but let's increase it to where it needs to be able to get together and negotiate a budget that strong on national defense but we do have commitments around the world for national security. the best thing we can do is get a budget approved in an orderly process and not threaten the full faith and credit of the united states. >> and to that point as you sit on the finance committee mentioning debt ceiling. are you concerned there are zero negotiate is going on? >> shannon i also work to get americans out during that period of time. it was a real challenge for but make no mistake about it the bite administration had very bad options. the decision to withdraw from afghanistan was made by the trump administration. the reduction of troops are 2500 is where president biden started his term in office. the president had low options left. admittedly the intelligence information about the strength of the afghan government to stand up and is a taliban was not accurate. the telamon took over much quicker than anyone had anticipated. butts, president biden have basically what are two choices was he going to get out of afghanistan or put more troops into afghanistan with no end in sight? there were not met options for think he, based on the intelligence he had made what he thought was a best judgment, that at present real challenges for americans and others getting out of afghanistan? you bet it did. shannon: how about the issue of advancing the airbase, our allies were so furious, you can call that emergency session i'm blasted us in parliament, allies who said they were not coordinated with were not informed about what was going to happen. i think most americans agree it was time to go. but the way in which it happened leaves a lot to be desired especially for these families who lost people and still deserve answers about what happens. proxy have a limited number of troops there, 2500 is what we are down to and we were withdrawing from there. you had circumstances that were not anticipated by the intelligence reports that were given. it does not give you a lot of good options pretty hope we can learn from this experience. i hope we can figure out that it circumstances in the future present itself so we can protect u.s. interests, better than we did in afghanistan withdrawal. but, quite frankly i think the major mistake was made in negotiating direct with the taliban not involving the afghan government. unilaterally withdrawing our troops to a level that did not give ourselves the ability to protect u.s. interests moving forward. shannon: i want to ask about the middle east intentions of this week. it has been a lot of back-and-forth, rocket attacks a couple suspected terror attacks for the guardian writes this that now has black and israel had pulled back from the brink they say. as to mortal foes continue stocking to the cross about a fields of the middle east find shadow wars in lebanon, sierra and iraq and as far away as yemen, the rest of even seemingly provocation spiraling out of control is perhaps greater than ever. how wordy about you about the current tensions in that region? [laughter] i love her face white house press secretary reacted to a question from fox's own peter doocy future ai development could be the end of humanity. her back without with our planet we aren't laughing about this spring there are people take this very seriously but i want to read something from the outlets, the case for how and why ai may kill us all realistically from the outset if we agree artificial intelligence has a chance of wiping out all life on earth does not seem too much we can do about it anyway. who's going to make the laws specific u.s. congress, united nations? josh, who gets a handle on this thing? what disparities carry stuff. what is really alarming as we are relying on a 1780-year-old senators and congressmen to possibly regulate this technology many of whom did not even know how to use her smart phone. we are relying on a deal that's really, really remarkable new technology. i don't trust -- is much concern i have going forward i do not know if i trust our lawmakers to handle the regulations such an important sector progress of bill gates on the podcast so there's nothing to worry about here's something he's said it's fine there's no threat text with the ability to research articles or how things summarize for you help you write better. he says we are backlogged in terms of educators and doctors. and so this is going be a positive. lexuses easter sunday the day of the resurrection so not going along with humanity is doomed to narrative here today. ai, every technology that has emerged in human history has overtime in the world better. if the printing press, the industrial revolution, displacing people at first but it lifted billions of people out of poverty. so ai example sciences just used ai to come up with an antibiotic ai analyst hundred different molecules and come up with the one that could defeat the antibiotic resistant bacteria. that same technology could come up with a bio weapon. we are entering into. where mankind has to harness this like we haven't every other harness this with the cause of good. make sure bad people cannot use it to cause harm. we will be better off in the long run. >> i agree but china has absolutely no interest in them. they meant anti- message agenda for they have an agenda to collect on us. i totally agree with you with america's perspective. we have to understand that rogue actors around this world like a chinese commerce party want to take this technology in light it on fire as it relates to collecting it in weapon icing it against us. >> that is how we can't possibly have to be ahead of them. do not know who would regulate it to josh's point, united nations question of who's going to wrigley the chinese? tiktok is already huge problem. look at the idea they can manufacture fox news channel make people think we are saying things were not saying. disruptive to our politics we know this from the past election cycle. about mention one in particular because everyone will explode. we know about disinformation, misinformation, spin, trolls and the like. which means your twitter and 2028. [laughter] [inaudible] >> want to make sure he gets another big headline making story this week report on justice thomas saying he is having secret vacations of the high dollar donor. he has issued a statement that says in part he has been longtime friends of harlan crow. he was advised early on this personal hospitality did not turn into business before the court. did not have to be reportable. at center for american progress as this congress must investigate the breach of ethical conduct and called public hearing peak long past time for congress to pass legislation to require supreme court justices to be subject to the same recusal rules as other federal judges. and right now they are not. as if they have a different set of rose but they don't have a set of rules. >> are two different discussions or where is the ethics discussion about supreme court justices should have to sign up on. they come up common sense americans are going to at the highest ethical reporting standard for the supreme court justices the same thing members of congress have to abide by, that is fine. the second issue is that there is a vehement response to go after justice thomas from the left ever since the confirmation hearing. on the way they go after him in the antagonistic natures even different from the other supreme court justices. one has to ask themselves why they target him the way they do? >> the court is at stake here. it has been for a while for justice thomas it was a friend. let's put that out there. let me tell you something i think of when you understand he is a palling around people like harlan crow than of people showed up in the white house who have an interest in a case in the corporate these are the people who make a business of the court. people like leonard leo, this is who he is hanging out with. i am just telling you. [inaudible] >> there interested in controlling certain speech. shannon: crow a set of cases or business. >> is a wonderful person, kind person and he has been caught up and attacked in this which is shameful justice justice thomas did not do anything wrong. >> was no evidence of corruption but this looks bad. shannon: were cap going to have to pay extra to see how the commercial how this turns out. thank you panel will see you next sunday up next to vs best-selling author kathy lee gifford talks to me about her new passion projects. ♪ shannon: major holiday week for many faiths, easter overlap aring with passover celebrations and the observe advance of ram can. kathy lee give order and her good friend rabbi so obel have co-author thed a new book called god of the way. faith that changed the way forever. new book is faired -- paired with gifford's film of the same name. i chatted with gifford and sobel about their work earlier this week. there's this beautiful musical experience, i don't even know how to describe it other than spectacular, that that you put together. and is you really bring these stories to the life. what was your hope -- >> well, they're epic stories. you know, shannon, because of books that you write. those stories are, first of all, they were real people. and their stories are epic, and they're almost ripped from the headlines today. so we wrote -- i wrote four oratories with four different sets of composers, and the movie, "the way," is separated into four different orator owes with the most amazing performers in the world today playing different characters. and it's just, it's -- i wanted it to be epic, i wanted it to be breath taking. but i wanted it to be so modern in a way that we could make it relevant, all these stories are relevant today. we can learn from the mistakes of sara and abraham, we can learn from, you know, every one of these stories, as i say, is precious and included in the scriptures for a reason. and i just wanted to find a brand new way to tell these ancient stories. and is so i called my dear friend, the rabbi, rabbi jason, and he and i hadn't -- very surprising success with the book called "the rock, the road and the rabbi," that we couldn't believe how many people loved that book. it's just -- i didn't know that people were so is spiritually hungry, shannon. people are really heart and soul looking for truth. and they're broken. and what the world has offered them has not satisfied. and so we just wanted to go deeper. and every time i want to go deeper into these stories, i call people to know the so much more than i know. i am not a biblical psychological around lahr, but rabbi jason is. -- biblical scholar. i hang out with people like that, and i look smart. shannon: i agree with you, i turn to the experts, and i always learn so much new. and the format makes it really accessible to people in a lot of different ways, and i think music is one of those special connecting ways. but, rabbi, as we are now in the midst of passover and easter, what ises your hope that that people in a very divided, contentious and, frankly, frightening world will take from faith this weekendsome. >> yeah, absolutely. i mean, i think it's so important. i mean, egypt, the passover celebrates the coming out of egypt. jesus died at passover. egypt is not just a a place, it's a tate of mind. it literally means a place of confinement, a mace of restriction, a place of being boxed in. and god doesn't want us to remain stuck in the if box. he doesn't want us to remain stuck in our prejudices and our fear and our anxiety. and so much of the hate and discrimination that we see today is rooted in fears and lies. and this season tells us god is about love. love overcomes hate, fear overcomes -- fear's overcome by hope, and the lies are overcome by truth. and there is truth and love in this story that is meant to bring us and unite us together as people made in god's image. shannon: rabbi and think lee gifford -- kathie lee gifford, thank you and god bless you. >> god bless you, my sweet friend. >> shalom. shannon: it's been called the raciest part of the bible, so why is song of solomon in there?
