>> reporter: you have got $4 gas for the majority of people who drive in america. it's showing up in the polls. it's showing up in slower growth for the overtall economy and the value of our dollar, the currency just keeps on falling. that means even higher oil prices in the immediate future and even higher gas prices in the immediate future. bill: they are charge a fuel charge across the country. the fox polling late last night concludes this. what best describes the nation's economy today. 38% believe we are in a recession and it could get worse. only 44% say recession getting better. >> reporter: that's gas prices. you ask them what they think of the economy. they will tell you $4 a gallon is just terrible. bill: we also asked, how do you feel about the financial future of america. 52% say concerned, but not scared. about 28%, less than a third say they are scared. >> reporter: i think that's debt. by now a lot of people know our currency keeps going down and down and down. i think that worry about the future, that particular question refers to our debt problem and dollar problem. bill: how did you feel looking back in your homeland today? >> reporter: i'll tell you the truth. i had tears in myees. i am a hopeless low man particular, the sight of two fine young people out there telling the world we love each other and we are going to face the world together. the future king of england. i'm sorry, i did have tears in my eyes. bill: that's sweet. i'm happy for you. >> reporter: i'm a hard-bitten financial guy. but i thought it was great. bill: have a great weekend. stuart varney. alisyn: a fox news alert. we need to tell you about the unrest happening in syria. we are told thousands of syrians have taken to the streets in the capital of damascus and syrian security forces have opened fire on demonstrators there. it is a bad day in syria. thousands of people protesting the government of president asaad and his security forces not taking kindly to this. they are opening fire. this is obviously some of the worst unrest they have seen to date in an area that has been particularly turbulent. we'll bring you this throughout the morning. the republicans field is still wide open for the 2012 white house race. which one of these 6 republicans will run against the president. we have the brand-new fox news poll numbers. bill: a lot has not been talked about. there has been a deadly terror attack killing western tourists. a suicide bomber in a place you would not expect. >> fear. no other way to describe it. but i guarantee you it is. we lost everything. still blessed to have my life to be here. [ male announcer ] when diet and exercise alone aren't enough, adding crestor does more than lower bad cholesterol and raise the good. crestor is also proven to slow plaque buildup in arteries. crestor is not right for everyone -- like people with liver disease or women who are nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant. simple blood tests will check for liver problems. tell your doctor about other medicines you are taking or if you have muscle pain or weakness. that could be a sign of serious side effects. ask your doctor about plaque build up. and if crestor is right for you. [ woman ] i love what we've created here together. [ male announcer ] if you can't afford your medication, astra-zeneca may be able to help. alisyn: can you imagine being up close and personal with a monster deadly twister? we have video when a storm chaser drove toward the deadly tornado. check this out. that's obviously a huge funnel cloud destroying everything in its path. the storm chaser who shot that video is andy gabriel. you study tornado for a living. you say in your life you have seen 150 of them basically close up. what was different about this one when you saw it? >> this one was extremely powerful. it started rotating extremely fast immediately after it touched down. it grew in size very rapidly. the rotation was some of the strongest i have ever seen. it was the first of many strong tornadoes on that day. alisyn: this was a massive tornado, a deadly tornado. but you say you weren't scared taws were driving towards it. why not? >> i had a pretty good indication where it was going to go so i felt safe at that point. alisyn: i know your goal is to get as close to them as possible. but you said you were certain the tornado wasn't going to overtake you. >> with the technology we have available to us. i generally know whether they are going to shift. when a storm is moving at 60 miles an hour in one direction it's generally pretty easy to tell it's going to keep on that course when it's moving that speed. alisyn: could you tell this would be a deadly tornado? >> you never know that. you always hope it's not. as storm chasers we don't want to see damage. we are not damage chairs. we want to see the storm and the tornado. we prefer it when it's in an open field in kansas. i'm seeing the damage in tuscaloosa for the first time, and this is devastating. alisyn: it sure is. andy gabrielson, we appreciate you sharing your video with us. and we encourage everyone not to follow your lead and to take cover when they see a storm approaching like that. >> thanks for having me. bill: getting this out of northwestern africa. a suicide bomber targeting tourists. the country temperatures official news agency saying 16 people dead in a tear rift attack. the explosion hitting a cafe popular with tourists in the town of marikesh. in the meantime back at home calling in the national guard. floodwaters from rising in the state of illinois and authorities keeping a close watch on all of the levees. we'll take you there live to see what the next disaster may potentially bring us. alisyn: amazing pictures from the southern storm coming in from viewers. this is just outside of chattanooga, tennessee. mississippi governor haley barber will join us. if you have any pictures or video we want to give you have a reminder. don't ever put yourself in danger. but if you have them send them to foxnews.com/you report. we would love to see them. okay, team! after age 40, we can start losing muscle -- 8% every 10 years. wow. wow. but you can help fight muscle loss with exercise and ensure muscle health. i've got revigor. what's revigor? it's the amino acid metabolite, hmb to help rebuild muscle and strength naturally lost over time. [ female announcer ] ensure muscle health has revigor and protein to help protect, preserve, and promote muscle health. keeps you from getting soft. [ major nutrition ] ensure. nutrition in charge! bill: 9:31 in new york. we'll take you down to mississippi. the survivors in that state are bracing for what could be another disaster. that's the possibility of flooding. 33 people are dead after record tornadoes leveled communities across the state. this is the scene in one area now. 300 dead across 6 states. mississippi governor haley barber is warning residents about flood threats. our hearts and prayers are with you. >> it was an unprecedented group of strong tornadoes. this is the season for tornadoes notice deep south. but this is unprecedented that there were so many powerful tornadoes, particularly further east. bill: the eastern parts of your state was hit the hardest. what are you hearing from people who have seen scenes of destruction like we are watching now? >> in some places in the town of smithville. just utter obliteration. 33 people dead in the state. 14 of them in that one little town. our people are strong, resilient, self-reliant people and they are back up yesterday. one of the things that impressed me is yesterday we had -- it went from 32 to 33 fatalities. we were very afraid we would find that there were a number more fatalities, but the local first responders were magnificent. they were on the ground late in the afternoon and all night. they did a great job. they are doing a great job now. but we have a lot of rebuilding to do and a lot of grieving in some places. bill: i don't know what you will see when you go up in the air. but aerial shots of these towns in mississippi, alabama and georgia, they take your breath away. they just go on and on. >> one of the things with tornadoes, they do go up and down. but sometimes they stay on the ground for miles and miles. we are accustomed to this and there has to be some of this. this is unprecedented in the numbers. but also it appeared -- i'm not a meteorologist, but the storms went across the state, normally they would weaken. in this case it seems like they strengthened. by the time they got over to the alabama line they were the worst for mississippi. once they got into alabama they found even worse. and they got larger. bill: do you have a flooding issue you are about to deal with? how serious is that? >> it's very serious. the mississippi river is going to crest in may at an elevation of about 53 1/2 feet. and that's probably on a conservative side. but at that rate it will be the highest since 1937 and perhaps the highest since 1927. so we are going to have a lot of the low-lying areas along the river, then they are going to flood. then our bigger issue of is going to be what we call back water flooding. the mississippi gets so high the tributaries cannot empty. so they back up and the streams and small rivers that drain into those rivers back up and then we get into tremendous amounts of flooding. hundreds of square miles of the state is likely to be flooded the second half of may. fortunately if that's the right wo
