stuart: you sound as frustrated as the rest of the country. thanks for being with us this morning, hope we didn't ruin the weekend. [laughter] stuart: former trump campaign chair paul manafort has changed lawyers. he did this right after the fbi raided his home. fox news anchor and former defense attorney greg jared, why does it look bad for president trump because it does? >> the fact that manafort has now changed lawyer, tips me off that what the feds may be looking at is completely unrelated to the russian-trump case. it may be man ford's personal finances, consulting works overseas and real estate transaction which is are vast and complicated and maybe improprieties but unrelated to trump. stuart: the president seems to be putting distance to manafort? >> sure. he had one job and that was really it. you know, maybe this is a thuggish tactic by abusive prosecutors to intimidate a witness to flip information on somebody in the trump campaign, if not the president, but i'm not sure that manafort has anything to flip. stuart: i thought this investigation by the fbi was all about collusion maybe between the trump camp and the russians. >> should have been. stuart: this is about manafort and personal finance. that's rod rosenstein's fault. he's the acting attorney general, mueller's boss and he gave mueller in the express direct the day he assigned, he said, yes, trump russian potential meddling and then the third line was and any other matter. that's unlimited, abusive discretion in latitude and mueller can do what he wants. stuart: there are some not so reliable surveys out there online, in fact, supposedly showing that a lot of republicans are open to postponing the 2020 election if president trump requested to crack down on voter fraud. this is pure nonsense, is it? >> it's pure nonsense, it would never happen. in the united states we went through two world wars and we didn't postpone any elections, even here in new york city in 9/11, talk about allowing gull annie to stay on as mayor in the aftermath, that never happened? why? because our elections are a precious right and privilege, we do not trifle with them. it won't happen here. stuart: emphatic, that's what it is. >> i'm dogmatic as well. >> absolutely, i think not only is the minimum wage an issue but health care, rights to work, overtime hours, government regulation, if you look at the mound and mound of regulation that comes from the local and federal level it's almost impossible to do business and make a profit. look at what's happening in retailing with amazon, automation and robotics are going to start replacing people and they've got to become more efficient to make a profit and there's too much invested in quick service around the world, across the united states, too many dollars invested, got to do something and that something they're going to do is automate and try to reduce the labor and labor content of all the products. stuart: yeah, it's really a big move. i see it all over the place. restaurant that feeds a hundred people and you've got maybe three servers, runners between the kitchen and where you order. this is proceeding a pace, i think. >> absolutely. i spent three hours yesterday working with a company called lexcon on virtual order or hospitality automation and it was magnificent. the thread of a smart device in your hand and being able to communicate with the restaurant on your order, order custom food and have it delivered based on a code and paid for when you walk in the door is just -- it's an incredible product. i'm working with the robotics company that serves hot fresh food without any people involved except with people in the back of the house 30 miles away. it's an incredible revolution. the unfortunate part of all of this is we are starting to lose the inner personal relationships of kindness and good service and hospitality and sociality when guys like you and i talk over a beer. stuart: quick one. mcdonalds, you used to run mcdonalds. they are going to open 2,000 new restaurants in china over the next five years. you think that's a good move? we may be getting into a spat with china in the very near future, you're okay with that move? >> absolutely. the only way to keep friends with everybody is to have an economic interest. mcdonalds opened up the first restaurant in beijing in 1990. they opened the highest volume restaurant in the world. they opened up 2,000 restaurants in five years is a very modest goal. in the united states in the 80's we were opening 1200 a year in united states. there's no reason with the population of china and the middle class that's growing as rapidly as it is to open 2,000 a year. god bless, let's go. let's get the chinese in all of our pockets instead of just one. stuart: in 1970's i lived in hong kong and it was the year 1974 or 1975 they opened the first mcdonalds in hong kong and on the first week that restaurant sold more filet of fish than any other mcdonalds in the world. that was the week number one. those were the days, ed. >> they were, i remember we stoned up in hong kong, it was a magnificent opportunity. stuart: did you know that star ferry is no more?
