Big on a 10year old that. Varney Company is about to begin. Stuart lets start with this, mexicos billionaire, richest man in the world carlos slim is calling for a threeday workweek offset by an 11 hour workday and later retirement imus 870 or 75. He says more leisure time is good and would help the economy. Charles payne is here. He works hard. Sounds attractive, its not going to work, is it . Now, but i think afford a workweek would be multiplatform. But, you have to put in 10 hours a day. Stuart you didnt tell us that. What he is trying to do is its interesting he is saying honestly we live so much longer, our Society Everything even though hes not saying it people should pay attention. We are going to run out of social security. In this country and probably a lot of other countries. Its different from what Richard Branson about splitting jobs and better worklife and whenever you hear those two words together if the new liberal attack on capitalism. Be careful of that. I think this is different. Stuart it seems like its an attack on work as if work is bad and leisure is good. Im not going to go along with that. Im not going to go along with the either and i do have a problem with it. I go back to fdrs speech, the government should make it that we never want for every thing. Want is how we get things and how we drive for things and how we get medicines that approve lives. Want is what drives this country and i dont want to go away. But, i think hes a bit different although, these good billionaires can you imagine how much he works . We was a kid he would get like five pesos a week and his father would make and keep a ledger. His father was account. He was grilled from day want to be a billionaire. Lebanese background into mexico with nothing. This guy works hard. Stuart i want to end this with you by saying theres no when gods green earth you would ever work a threeday workweek. Fox news contributor kate is here and lets bring in the viewpoint from a young millennial. Kate, what do you say . A threeday workweek, 11 hours a day, but you work tell your 70 or 75. I know that sounds attractive. Is it attractive to millennials . Arent the europeans already going with this . They get to do this because americans are working harder. When you look at the numbers, yes, studies show more leisure time and more vacation makes people more productive, but the fact is americans on average are already working 10 hours a day, five days a week. They on average work 1700 hours per year and so when it comes to productivity if america stays the wait is and has our place in the world we cant have a threeday workweek. As much as it sounds great i like work like you and i think work is a good thing to maintain our status in the world. Stuart work is fulfilling. I like it. Americans seem to find if theyre not busy doing one job they take on another job, so i dont think it would work. Stuart we dont want to be like your, we are americans. Can he stay there for a second . We like your point of you. We are waiting for a statement from president obama on the ukraine. We are expecting it any moment. In advance of that the Dow Jones Industrial average is a trouble digit loss, little perspective here thats not even 1 . Its not a topple, its a. 6 decline in advance of the president s statement. Premuch the same story with s p 500, a broader based stock indicator is down 6 . As for gold not that much action they are. We are about 1300 an ounce with a gain of 4 today. Miniscule gain. Oil, barely moving 103 per barrel. Look at the 10 year treasury, oil at 1835. The yield, 2. 44 . That is significant, one of the significant market moves of the day. A considerable drop for the yield on the tenure treasury indicating maybe a rush to the safety of United States treasury securities. Then we have a florida jury awarding a woman 23 billion in punitive damages against r. J. Reynolds tobacco. Her husband died of lung cancer many years ago. Reynolds stock down 1. 6 . Look at dom brands. It and mcdonalds have expended there are safety concerns there. Yum brands is down three have on that and it is a lot of its business in. J. P. Morgan is going to set a price target of 51 on go pro stock, up she goes to percent higher. Charles, there is one more the crisis overseas. Its not a huge down the site for the markets. Same question we saw before. You get this initial shock when something happens, down she goes, nine times out of 10 back she comes on the other side quickly. Do you think we will see the same time . I think we could. I think late today we might see it never leans lot of great earnings coming out this week. I think this shift can come from geopolitics back to corporate earnings. Stuart dont panic . Now. Stuart Preston Obama will make a statement any moment now and ukraine. The us is presenting and im quoting now powerful evidence that pro russia rebels did indeed she is the plane down with a Russian Service to air missile. Ambassador is with us this morning. Welcome back. Glad to be here. Stuart this has happened on europes doorstep. Do you think now is the Tipping Point for europe that they will harden updoorste. Do you think now is the Tipping Point for europe that they will harden up and get guts and imposing sanctions on the russians . They should have frankly the United States should toughen up as well. I think we have to look beyond the specifics of what is going on in ukraine, the on this tragedy, beyond the conflict in eastern ukraine. What we have seen russia in the last 10 years has been a pattern of almost belligerence in his conduct towards the west and hours seven very weak to say the least. I think we have to look at Vladimir Putin as an adversary, a policy decision they made and i think we need to toughen up across the board. Stuart how about going ahead and building that Missile Shield . That is number one us. Stuart how going ahead in america, build the pipeline from until the cows come home, export natural gas is as you can and remove Vladimir Putins leverage. Thats good for number two. Stuart how about number three are you going to let me say anything today . Stuart im an opinionated kind of guy. How about ending the scaling down of americas military . Absolutely. [laughter] i guess that is it. I think we need a Strategic Response and you articulated several elements of the real strategic is response. Be on that have you look at incorporated ukraine and georgia as george bush proposed in 2008. Yet to seriously treat the nature of russias aggressive pose. Its important not only in europe, its important for what it signals to other emerging powers like china, which is pursuing an aggressive policy and if they see a american and european weakness in europe and the calibrate it into their own policy. Stuart i dont know what the president will say, but he will make a statement. Do you think youll toughen up . I think he has come under enormous criticism after his response last week. If like he is focused on this is a Police Homicide investigation instead of the consequence of Vladimir Putins army in the ukraine. I think he will focus on a pending Security Council resolution now being negotiated, which doesnt do much other than call for a full international destination. I think focusing on the capillary, which is what that represents is wasting the opportunity to help rally our allies in europe who otherwise will just bring their hands and. Stuart one last question about israel, it seems to me the response you israels purge into gaza has been different from the socalled International Community. I dont think they have condemned it as much as they used to. If anything if the us who is that the most pressure on israel to stop because of the casual civilian counsel please, but what they have in the gaza strip represents a major threat to israel, not just kidnappings and marines and hostages take, but the missiles that iran and others have supplies them represent a threat to israel population all across the country. Stuart and vassar, would you kindly sit there for a while. I went to get your response to the president s statement. To stock market lets get back to that. Were still about one hundred points down. Hasbro im thinking them out because they are a huge loser today. Transfers, my little pony and the board game monopoly all under the hasbro umbrella, where they down, nicole . They did have some numbers that were better than prior quarters, however, didnt beat analyst expectations. They are doing very well with action toys, you mentioned transformers, Marvel Comics and things related to that doing very well. My little pony has done very well in contrast to what we sow from mattel last week and barbie losing. Its interesting that girls have moved over a bit to other dolls or my little pony and doing well with nerf. Its interesting, us and canada were the weak spots overall. They did well and europe, asia, latin america, but the us and canada sales fell 2 . However, a broad they sawed 17 growth. They continue to do well, but sales were weaker than expected. Stuart its been a long time since i gave a conventional present to my seven little grandchildren. A what electronics, sorry thats what they want. Wow. Stuart i am i wrong . Now i think youre right on. Stuart please everyone get ready to label pay more for your plane ticket. Its not the airlines fault, congress. They increased the tsa be on a plane ticket from 250 to by 60. If you have a connecting flight in other with a second leg that is more than four hours you cost about 5. 60 all are again. That money is not going to improve safety, not going to tsa, oh no, it will help reduce the deficit. Kate, still with us in dc, what do you think of that . Stuart since when have but we paid money for security, but it doesnt go to security, it goes to the deficit . Katherine harris had a report this morning showing Airline Security is worse now than it was pre911. So, you have to question them taking more money out of the pockets of the consumers and claiming it will go not to security, but to pay down the deficit. Tsa has a long history of wasting money, wasting consumer money and wasting taxpayer money, so i am skeptical at the change in the that will reduce the deficit anything to bump up security. Stuart i think it was part of a deal. I think Congress Just chocked that in as a little face they run a deficit in return for Something Else a place else. I dont think they get is much thought, but we, the traveling public, we are the ones will have to pay this. If you take a look at the comment, there is a comments section, so that be goes in place today even about public period last until august 19. People are unhappy saying not only do we go through this process where we feel violated im a but now, we are being nickeled and dined for flights have already paid for under the claim this will go towards reducing the deficit when the tsa has a long history of abusing that money and people are not happy about and i think we are going to see people taking alternative routes to travel. Stuart if i take the kids down to florida to see disney there and back its about a next her 50. To a lot of people that is a lot of money. Kate, stay there we have more for you. We have a florida jury awarding an astonishing 3 billion against big tobacco. Could you say this is prohibition in the form of a lawsuit . It looks like it to me. Ask a lawyer in a moment. First, look at this, no more waiting in line at the car wash. Here is nissans new selfcleaning paint in action. The car was on fox and friends this morning. He spreads chocolate syrup all of the car and look at that, it slides off. It just slides off. This page is called ultra ever drive. Nissan is considering offering up paint as an aftermarket option. It will not be a standard option. It just rolls right off. Lets see now, stuart i want to tell everyone we are waiting for president obama to make a statement on the ukraine, obviously, we dont know what he will say or if you answer questions. A statement is coming. He was supposed to make that statement 10 50 a. M. And is now a live in the we do have the dow industrials still down triple digits. A little history here, when he was announced that the president would make a statement the dow was down 40 points. Now its down 107, 108 points. There is some concern of what the president might say in his statement and may be a tougher stance towards russia that has the market nurse. Lets put this in perspective. The dow is still a couple under points at most away from its record of alltime high. You got to crises oversee, ukraine, israel and the tao holding up close to 17000. With a perspective there, lets wait to see what the president has to say. I see a figure walking on the pathway. I dont believe that is the president. Is that the present . It is the president. He is about to make the statement. Lets listen in to what he has to say on ukraine. Good morning, everyone. I want to make a brief statement about the tragedy in ukraine. Before i do, i want to note secretary kerry has to part of for the least. As i have said many times israel has the right to defend itself against rocket and tunnel attacks and as a result of its operation israel has already done significant damage to terrorists in the structure in gaza ive also said, however, that we had serious concerns about the rising number of the civilian deaths in the loss of israeli lives and that is why it now has to be our focus and the focus of the International Community to bring about ceasefire that ends the fighting and back and stop the death of innocent civilians both in gaza and in israel. So, secretary kerry will meet with allies and partners. I havent checked him to push for an immediate cessation based on a return to november 2012 ceasefire agreement between israel and hamas in gaza. The work will not be easy. Obviously there are enormous passions involved in this and very difficult Strategic Issues involved in nevertheless, i have asked john to do everything he can to help facilitate cessation and hostility. We dont want to see more civilians getting killed. With respect to ukraine, its now been four days since Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was shot down over territory controlled by russian backed separatists in ukraine. Over the last several days, our hearts have been absolutely broken as we have learned more about the extraordinary and beautiful lives that were lost. Men, women, and children and infants who were killed so suddenly and so senselessly. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with their families around the world. Theyre going through unimaginable grief. I have had opportunity to speak to a number of leaders around the world whose citizens were lost on this flight and all of them remain in a state of shock, but frankly, also in the state of outraged. Our immediate focus is on recovering those who were lost. Investigating exactly what happened and putting forward the facts. We have to make sure that the truth is out. And that accountability exists. International investigators are on the ground. They have been organized. Ive sent teams. Other countries have sent teams. They are prepared and organized to conduct what should be the kinds of protocol and scouring and collecting of evidence that should follow any International Incident like this and what they need right now is immediate and full access to the crash site. They need to be able to conduct a prompt and full and unimpeded as well as transparent investigation. And recovery personnel have to do the solemn and sacred work of recovering the remains of those who were lost. Ukrainian president has declared a to military eyes did zone around the crash site. As i said before you had International Teams in place there to conduct the investigation and recover the remains of those who have been lost, but unfortunately the russian backed separatists who controlled area continue to block the destination. They have repeatedly prevented International Investigators from gaining full access to the wreckage. Investigators approached, they fire their weapons into the air, the separatists are removing evidence from the crash site all of which big the question, what exactly are they trying to hide . Moreover, the russian backed separatists are removing bodies from the crash site. Often times without the care that we would normally expect from a tragedy like this. This is an insult to those who have lost loved ones. This kind of behavior has a place in the community of nations. Now, russia has extraordinary influence over these separatists, no one denies that. Russia has urged them on, has trained them. We know that russia has armed them with military equipped and weapons, including anti aircraft weapons. Key separatist leaders of russian citizens. So, given its direct influence over the separatists russia and present plattner put in in has direct response ability to compel them to cooperate with the investigation. That is the least they can do. President Vladimir Putin says he supports a full investigation and i appreciate those words, but they have to be supportive actions. The burden now is on russia to insist that the separatists stop tampering with evidence, grant investigators who are already on the ground immediate, full and unimpeded access to the crash site. The separatists and the russian sponsors are responsible for the safety of the investigators doing their work and along with our allies and partners we will be working this issue with United Nations today. More broadly, as i said throughout this crisis and the crisis in ukraine generally and ive said this directly to president Vladimir Putin and publicly i continue to find a diplomat resolution within ukraine. I believe that cancel happen. That is my preference today and will continue to be my preference, but if russia continues to violate ukraines sovereignty and back these separatists and these separatists become more and more dangerous and our risks not simply to be lit side of ukraine, but the broad International Community then russia will only further isolate itself from the International Community and of the costs for russias behavior will only continue to increase. Now is the time for president Vladimir Putin and russia to pivot away on this tragedy and serious about trying to resolve hostilities within ukraine and in a way that respects ukraines sovereignty and respects the right of the ukrainian people to make their decisions about their lives. Time is of the essence. Our friends and allies need to be able to recover those who were lost. That is the least we can do. That is the least that decency demands. Families deserve to be able to lay their loved ones to rest with dignity. The world deserves to know exactly what happened and the people of ukraine determine their own fate. Thank you. Stuart the president of the United States making a short statement on israel in a much longer statement on ukraine and he did not answer any questions. Americas ambassador to the United Nations remains here. Your take on why he had to send ukraine. I thought it was utterly vacuous, he is still focused on specifics of the investigation and while we honestly want to learn more fax and take care of the remains of the victims that is insignificant to be blunt about it in the context of the larger picture of dealing with russia. We can fill in the blanks, filling these details as time goes on, but what we need now is to rally the europeans and others for stronger steps against russia and every hour that goes by where we are not doing that, means the likelihood of stronger steps diminishes and the president said he still was a diplomat resolution, thats music to Vladimir Putins ears. Stuart there was no, or else. There never is. Stuart he wants to take steps to make sure that investigation is legit and handle the bodies properly, but now, or else. If you dont do that we will do this. Why has Vladimir Putin behaved in such a fashion but past few months . Because he can because neither the United States and western europe has responded effectively and this was just a space filling, box checking speech by the president to counter criticism he hasnt focused enough on the ukraine crisis. Stuart why did he make that Statement Today . It was similar to the statement made at the end of last week . I think it represents a pr decision on the part of the white house. There is no new Strategic Thinking or change in us policy, no increase in pressure on russia, no effort to rally our european allies. I think its pure time feeling. Stuart what about his state on israel . I took brief notes because he didnt say much. He said significant damage had been done to hamas, he wants to ceasefire and said john kerry will look for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Kerry is in you yet egypt. I think the president between the lines what he wants is is really writing to stop. I think that is very premature. I think that is saying to the israelis you will not be able to achieve your objective of removing this rocket threat. Stuart when we went into the statement from the present, the dow industrial average was down about 110 points. At the end of the statement we are now down 94 points. I suspect that had the president taking a harder line the dow would have dropped more, but the president did not take a hard line. I think that is right. Stuart now, we are down 93. Charles, goahead. A couple things with the president says the cost will increase to russia, does he believe that Public Opinion is going to create more pressure for Vladimir Putin and us sanctions . Does he honestly believe that . I think the president live in a academic faculty lab and the fear of being isolated in the world has impact on him well beyond what it has on Vladimir Putin. Vladimir putin lives in a world of power and obama in a world of words. Stuart russias economy at the moment is strong. Mortgages let the people are taking out mortgages. Price of oil is up. Stuart and extended sanctions are unlikely to have that much of the impact on mr. Vladimir putin. No indication from the present stuart before you go isnt that what the American People want . They dont want save they dont want an Aircraft Carrier moved to the mediterranean. They would rather not have any troubles internationally, but what they really when his leadership and i think the American People are practical. If they are told there is a threat to our interest in the world and we have to take strong measures they are ready to be persuaded, but you dont have a leader in the white house repaired to do that. Stuart im glad you were right there. I appreciate it. Next story, listen to this one. A florida jury has returned one of the largest verdict ever against the tobacco coming. Cynthia robinson sued r. J. Reynolds because her husband died of lung cancer after a lifetime of smoking. She will be awarded more than 60 million in compensatory damages and wait for, 23 billion in punitive damages. Her attorney is here with us. So, welcome to the program. Good to be here. Stuart i didnt know you were the attorney. Thank you for being here. Now, i think shes not going to get 23 billion , you know that cycling happen. You never know what the court will do, but more than anything stuart you may be one of the richest men in the world if you got that. The point is its not be about rich. Its about make a difference in saving lives. Yup 480,000 people die every year stuart hold on a second. I know your question, bring it on. Stuart we have had this debate and that tobacco has paid out 45 billion and now, we are going back that they have to pay more. Look, should we be trying to put Tobacco Companies out of business . We should send them a message they can make a safer cigarette. They can make up us dollars and they should do it. They owe it to the market public to do it. You recall cars. He recalled vehicles to make them safer and you also have to, you have to give people a right to make uninformed decision. Thats what its about. Stuart everyone knows not everyone. Stuart how can you not know . What about a 10year old . Tell me about a 10year old. Do they know . Stuart you cannot tell a 10year old and a 10year old doesnt realize tobacco sweet is that for you, therefore, than cigarettes . Make them safer. Whats wrong with making them safer . We have documents to prove they can make them safer. Recall the bad ones that is killing people to the tune of 480,000 people a year stuart okay, how me people die of sclerosis how me people die of sclerosis that is not the point. Does that give you a right to kill people . Stuart how me people die of sclerosis of the liver because they drink alcohol . Why not go after the liquor copies . Its real simple and real clear, you cannot withhold information a look, the Supreme Court you cannot hold them permission about a product that is detrimental people rely on it to their detriment. Stuart that was taking care of with it was not. Stuart they are still doing the same old thing. They they are killing people. Stuart im just curious. I will point does the person smoking their responsibility . Your technorati 10year old, but between 10 and whatever age people are dying they know this is a product tis not. And it is too late. They get the habit at 10 years old . You dont have the right to go after our children. They are not going after children. How do you know that . I that been in a trial for two months and seen over 100,000 private non disclosed documents that they does the smoker bear any responsibility . Yes, the smoker bear some response ability. We can eat ourselves into a diabetic coma and at what point do you blame the person . You do not blame the manufacturer at all . Do you not blame the manufactured all . Not at this point. Do you agree they should market children, High School Students . Of course not. Well thats it. Thats what they do. Stuart we have come to an impasse, but i for one you are a rich man. No, no, no. Stuart its about making a difference. Im a lawyer a trial lawyer in a fight for my clients. Stuart if you get 7 billion would you rejected . The jury spoke loud and clear to tobacco youre not going to get away with this. You have been killing people for a number years stuart we should have a law that says up tobacco is illegal. You dont need a lot to do the right thing morally. Stuart then you shouldnt put them out of business with a lawsuit. There should be a law that says dont target our children. Stuart if we went to pass the law that tobacco is banned im fine with it. If you want to pass the law, do it, but dont put them out of business by lawsuits. Dont put them out of business stuart i have no choice to break. Counselor, you are fine. Good luck, sir. Theyre really just is not that right now. Stuart how do you have competition . They dug a hole into theund. Will they did another hole . It just will not happen, is it . They put satellites in the air in those guys are competitive. They are taking market share from certain companies. That is where the competition lies. I do not think that it is a problem that they cannot provide Internet Service as good. Stuart not as good as the hardwire pipe that comes into your house. My blind fiber internet is way faster. Who are these politically connected investors . Of the four major investors, all of them have had or currently have penciling. A grandson of a former president. Very high ranking officials. This is the highest political class, stuart that we are talking about. Stuart when it goes public, it will be worth the 150 billion. If you look at when some of these partners bought in, their returns have quadrupled already. If they make the smallest percentage stick. This is a really significant development. We have been trying to investigate who these people are. Ali baba is very well protect it. What we have seen is major u. S. Companies cannot pray again. But the energy bp produces up here creates Something Else as well jobs all over america. Engineering and innovation jobs. Advanced Safety Systems technology. Shipping and manufacturing. Across the United States, bp supports more than a quarter million jobs. When we set up operation in one part of the country, people in other parts go to work. Thats not a coincidence. Its one more part of our commitment to america. Stuart here is the story, your money has not moved that much. It is monday morning. Stocks, they are still on highest. Gold and oil, unchanged. Maybe those traders did indeed sell in may. More on the way. Stuart headlines, you will pay more for security at the airport today. It has nothing to do with terrorism. The president on ukraine take two. How can you fail with a casino on the beach. Less than two hours from new york city. Atlantic city did fail. We will talk to and executive who will tell us why. I will tell you why i think that the 80 billiondollar man is wrong. First of all, before we go any further, look at the Dow Jones Industrial average. When the president was going to make a statement on ukraine, the dow dropped 120. He made a statement, no new action. Down only 60 points. Your money has not changed that much despite to overseas crises. Thirteen Israeli Soldiers killed in what and what was the first major ground battle yesterday. Two of those people were americans. K. T. Mcfarland is here. I want to get to israel in a moment. The president and 10. What do you make of this . He did nothing. I told president putin we want this to stop. He talked about nothing. Stuart that is why the dow industrials are now down 60 points instead of 150. If the president would have taken a stronger stance, it would have been more. The market thinks nothing is going to happen here. No. I dont think anything is going to happen here. The europeans are not going to do it because russia holds the economic lack mail. Intel that is replaced, somebody elses energy, russia continues to blame. Stuart why doesnt president obama say he is going to build that pipeline. When europe gets it, we will have the World Bank Fund pipeline so we can spread it all around europe. Why doesnt the president use energy to leverage . You have laid out the perfect american policy. That is the big problem. We have the ability to be a complete strategic engine. We are not taking advantage of our own national resources. Stuart why . Why does this president not take a firm stand . I think it is several things. One is environmental things. Stuart plus you. Stuart Elizabeth Macdonald makes her first appearance on the show. Their world view is that the United States leadership in the world did not make the world a better safer place. They believe if america were to step down a step, we would have more equal, everybody is kind of the same. In the president rose garden talk, we are talking about the global community. The United States step back. Stuart you are a keen observer of americas mood. We do not want to do this. We just want to take care of our own. America does not really want to see us stepping back from the world today. That is why you what you just talked about, that allows us to do that without having a military solution to anything. What he said was i am sending kerry. I want kerry to negotiate a cease fire. Now the casualties are too high. That is what he sent secretary kerry to do. Stuart thank you for joining us. Stuart a trader on the floor there in chicago. Is this same old same old, larry . You get a big selloff when the crisis breaks. Is that what is happening all over again with this one. And mini rally higher than where you were before, stuart. I think a lot of traders have seen this many times before. It does take a brave person to step in there and buy as the market is falling. This president seems to be a great trade in the playoffs. He really will not follow through. Any hard line in the sand, so to speak here at the market comes right back. There are some profits to be made. Stuart is there any market that really did sell off and stayed down . I am trying to think of something that is a big selloff. No. Buying yields really are coming back up. The trades are really almost anywhere that did not rally right after that piece of information came out. It really was a buying opportunity. Stuart any time that we get these crises, is this the issue that brings that market down and it stays down . If i asked that question today, i have to say this is not the issue. I would agree. I would totally agree with that. I do not even think that they look so bad, but they dont look great. Stuart thank you very much, indeed did check the big board did case and point. Down way more than 100 points just before the president made his statement on ukraine. Now we are down 70. Bottom line, the dow is still above 17,000. We are down, but not by that much. The 10 year treasury, you have had a rush to equality. The money moves then we have this. A florida jury has awarded a woman 23 billion in punitive damages. Here is the stock price. Reynolds american. It was down earlier. Not that much. Bearing in mind it was 823 billiondollar award. Not likely to be paid. Reynolds american at 58. Go pro. There is a winner. Jpmorgan puts a price target of 51 on the stock. Right now it is up 42. Almost 43. Staying on stocks. Netflix is a winner today. Is there any special reason . They will be reporting their earnings after the bell today. The stock is up 1. 3 . We will continue to watch over how many subscribers they have added. Thirtyone nominations. Orange is the new black. They are competing. Netflix dealing with some great numbers. 40 as many globally. Everybody certainly still gives a lot of credit to hbo. Not only the way through cable, but also through the internet, amazon and the like. They can sample those profits from a year ago. Stuart i am a new subscriber. How is it going . I dont watch that much television. We have a smart tv in our bedroom. I call it the stupid tv. It takes 20 minutes to get it on. Stuart hold on a second, lauren. Did you guys get rid of that big box of a television that you had. A smart tv that i jokingly call a stupid tv. I would almost rather have my old box. My old cable. I can do my channel flipping myself. Then i can be done. Stuart i want a rowboat with two buttons. Power on and click to fox news and fox business. I am with stuart varney. Lets get that. Moving on. Stuart every time you buy a plane ticket, it goes up about 3. 10. Going up 5. 60. If you have a connecting flight were then four hours, you get hit with the 5. 60 for the second leg. It will be used to reduce the deficit. You cannot blame the airlines. Five dollars for a connecting flight. Last Year Congress said we need to fix the federal deficit right now. Even on your tax return, you voluntarily say yes, i will check this box and play on. Pay a dollar to the deficit. This is the only existing fee that we can think about is pointed joints on. Just towards congress. And industry that is nickeled and dime for everything. Lets say that you want the cheaper fares see you go for the longer layovers. Any layover more than four hours, you pay another fee on. Stuart the airlines get the blame. They should not be getting the blame. It is not their fault. Elizabeth warren. She is on the left, politically. Speaking in washington last week. She said take it easy on millennials and make the rich pay. One of those olen eales was at the speech. She will report what was said and what was done. And what was done. Really. So our business can be on at ts network for 175 dollars a month . Yup. All five of you for 175. Our clients need a lot of attention. Theres unlimited talk and text. Were working deals all day. You get 10 gigabytes of data to share. What about expansion potential . Add a line anytime for 15 bucks a month. Low dues. Great terms. Lets close. Introducing at t mobile share value plans. With our bestever pricing for business. Stuart last week senator Elizabeth Warren made a pretty high profile speech about student debt. She said tax the billionaires, tax the millionaires and bank that money available to students that are suffering from high debt. A woman from the very rich. She made that a very highprofile speech last week. We have a student journalists. She joins us live now from d. C. Welcome to the program, lauren. Thank you for having me on, stuart. Stuart i want you to report not just what she said, but how you were treated at that speech. Could you ask questions . Yes. I would have loved to have seen what their take was on student debt geared the media relief there was very strict. We were stuck in our little box. We were not allowed, under any circumstances, to talk to any panelists there. Stuart i do not know whether you are a conservative or a republican. Well, i am a reporter. Did the authorities know that you may have asked a few leading questions or sharp edge questions of the students . They knew who i was with. I was with campus reform. Interestingly enough, nearly every single reporter was there that was treated that way. It was very interesting. It did not matter if you are from the left media or the right media or in between. Everybody knows senator warren is very much on the left. Pretty clear what he said. Give some of the money to bailout the student that crisis. What were they afraid of . That is an excellent question. I am not sure what they were afraid of. Maybe they are not really looking at the real issue when it comes to student debt. It is transferring the bill to one person to the next. It is not finding new and innovative ways to cut down the cost of education. Stuart in this controlled environment, how was ms. Warrens speech this evening . They seem to take it pretty well. Stuart did you think that ms. Laurent laid out a situation where she would be running for the presidency in 2016 . You know, it is possible. Who knows. Stuart look, we have a new study. More millennials are living at home. You are a millennial. The Student Loan Debt crisis plays a big part in this, i take it . Absolutely. I think the study is what a lot of americans already know. They are covered with loan debt. They cannot find a job. A lot of that is basically because when they are looking for college, they are not making such your financial decisions. It comes to hurt them in the future. They are not sitting down with their families and making secure financial decisions. It is really important for the map on June Millennials being hit the hardest. Would that be popular amongst millennials . A lot of them have this concept about having personal responsibility. I remember when i was a high school senior. I had to look at the options. I was hit by the Financial Realities of the situation. After sitting down with my parents, i made a good financial decision. I had to make sacrifices. A lot of millennials do not necessarily do that right now. They may not understand what is at play here. Here is the statistics. If you tax 100 , you take all of the 1 million plus people, all of their wealth as an income. You will only raise 616, 620 million. You will crush jobs in the process. Stuart any comment, lauren . Absolutely. I think you hit the nail right on the head. They can pursue responsibility to someone else. Stuart the political affiliation will shift more towards the center and the right as opposed to the left . I think that there is a huge opportunity right now. They seem to be pulling very well with millennials. Maybe there is an opportunity there. Stuart you act is as a reporter today. We thank you for that. Work less, play more. I will give you my take on that next. Stuat i reay does look like the same old, same old, you get crisis overseas, the to some degreef, the crisis back comes the stock market. We are down 70 points on the dow, but still above 17000, still very close to an alltime high despite what is going on in ukraine and israel. Then we have Atlantic City, you have to say for of those casinos there are going bust, they are on the beach virtually. Two hours for manhattan. How on earth could they fail so badly in that position . We are going to talk to a casino executive in a few minutes. How did that failure happen . The richest man in the world once a shorter work week and a longer working life. Three days a week and worked till you are 70 or 75. Carlos slim, is what about 80 billion and he says its time to change the way we look at work and retirement. Heres my take, that sounds attractive. More leisure time, less workrelated stress. Why not work into your 70s . We are living longer. Hold on a moment, i think we should be asking what do people really want to do . Do people want the parttime jobs that we are now creating . Do they want a parttime wage . I dont think so. Put a fulltime job out there and you will find plenty of takers. At this point with middleclass people are losing ground, putting food on the table and pay for college is more important than at her leisure time. A threeday weikel patiently, pretty good. A fiveday week with money to match, much better. So, how about carlos slims suggested into work into your 70s . That is already happening. Nearly one in five of the over 65 group are still on the job, but they are working because they have to. They lost their savings in the crash. I have no problem with early retirement so long as its your choice. I dont want a low income parttime work week if that means i have to work till i drop. One less thing, mr. Slim thinks your quality of life improves as you work less. He seems to be saying work is bad and not working as good. Not sure i agree with that. I find work fulfilling. Regardless of your job doing it well is surely rewarding. By the way, since when has your quality of life automatically improved just because youre not at work . Slim says dont work much, dont earn much and work longer. I say work more, more and if you want to then work longer. In new york state, were changing the way we do business, with startup ny. It is a way to keep the g rated movies you like to watch of the shows you like to been john keeping them at a view and the recently viewed section, so if you share your netbooks account they cannot see what you are viewing. In my case, admittedly terrible taste in movies and shows. I like to binge watch and sometimes i dont like to have people use my account and now what i watch. Stuart if you go and watch a whole bunch of porn for a weekend no one will know and that is what this is about. Could be, absolutely. Stuart they are testing. There is no porn on netflix, right . I havent seen any. Why is stuart asking rex. [laughter] stuart all of a sudden im in trouble. Because you are a new netflix user. And will you use what she is reporting about . Stuart now. Stuart you dont care what people see you watch . Now. Netflix makes choices for you, so if you disregard what someone watches in privacy mode and you do not keep that file, maybe it will make better recommendations. I think the conditions are terrible. Stuart suppose i go on the internet to my little computer and watch something on the fee no one needs to know what im doing because i can go to the history, click a that delete to read i can do that. However, if i am using a workrelated computer my employer will know what i will watch regardless of what i do with the history file. Is that correct . I believe so. Stuart is this a warning to all of our viewers . Dont watch porn. Stuart any date anything to add, liz . Now, read. Stuart lets move on. The trump plaza casino in Atlantic City is expected to close by mid september. This is a casino, on the beach. Its about two hours from new york city. A nice location, plenty of people available to come gamble, but they are going out of business. What went wrong . Joining us from stamford, connecticut, he is with them all he been Tribal Gaming trade hes a Senior Executive with a gaming operation and you know what youre talking about. So, you tell us, what went along with the casting on the beach to our severe city . It isnt just the trump plaza. Its well into new Atlantic City overtime. When there was no, titian and there was just Atlantic City and las vegas and they were raking in the gaming revenues and there was a focus just on gaming and not enough focus on developing secondary division. As competition open in the primary markets such as in pennsylvania, which overtook new jersey as the second biggest Gaming Market after las vegas after nevada rather they were not able to do it. Then there were casinos in new york opening and in my casino and all of a sudden theyre extra now markets are chopped off and there wasnt enough reason additional reason to create those extra trips. Stuart here is a threat that may be to you and all casino operations. In new jersey you can now gamble online. You can sit there right there with your tablets and play away. I would have thought that would draw people who really are into gambling away from the casinos and it to their own home and that is bad for the casinos themselves. You see a threat from gambling . Now, there hasnt been correlation you between Online Gaming in new jersey and what is happening in new jersey. You have to remember gambling addict casinos is really a social experience. Its going in the, robbery. There are people that go for the pure gaming of it and maybe they could get their excitement in the house, but its more about the social experience and what was around gaming. So, there is no correlation you between Online Gaming and affecting the revenues of casinos. Stuart can you make as much money from slots as you make from say craps and table games . Slots are generally the highest. For example, there are 70 of revenue. Slots are always highest revenue because they attract to a wider audience and easier to play. A different type a demographic, slots go older and tables younger. We have seen, although revenues are up oliver table games revenue, which goes to younger demographic seems to be coming back quicker than the slot revenue. Stuart do you think the Gaming Market in america is saturated . Most Population Centers you can go to a casino within a couple hours drive. I think what is happening is you are seen regional gaming take hold. Gaming has grown potentially and theres gaming almost everywhere. Most of the Population Centers have got the regional casinos. Its not the destination casinos like mohegan sun or Atlantic City can be. More of a destination then the quick fix of gimli. We have seen that happen over so far. Stuart do you think there is room for more casinos in america . Well, what i thank you see is additions to casinos where there is a void. Massachusetts has a gaming bill that is pending. There isnt much competition around the region. I think once you get that yield is protected. New york has a few casinos going. I think the massive growth is growth is over. I think there are pockets that markets get legalized gambling, but more often you see the right sizing of the industry. Stuart have you ever been to the casinos in macau . I have not. The numbers they put out of there are incredible. Stuart look, i have been there and its totally different environment. Its all table games and hardly any slots. There isnt much drinking of alcohol, but at a norm of money plunked down on the tables. Its totally different. Is it because of the cultural difference . I think the cultural difference and the number of people is absolutely a big issue. There is something very culturally appealing to gaming and asian markets if you go to the mohegan sun and Atlantic City you can see that asians are drawn to it. If the cultural cultural thing. We see the same thing in Atlantic City, 30 years ago. I thank you have to be careful no matter where you are. Stuart is your revenue from gaming going up . Mohegan sun has seen its revenues decline primarily we are looking at the competition is kind of around us level off. Right now, we focus on the economy seems to be a big problem particularly in connecticut. The casino in Atlantic City we bought 10 and have a great owner there. We have made changes. I think with the right set of amenities in the right changes you can succeed there. Stuart you have to bring in a lot more entertainment as opposed to just putting your money on the line for coming, right . Yes, for example resorts we have a land shark bar and grill on the beach. That exciting experience. In millions on connecticut we have the biggest arena in our size in the world. Having show this weekend. We had justin timberlake. You need to create more of a destination. That is how gaming has changed. In the old days you can open up and have a restaurant media stakeout that never thing was fine. Now you need destination creating. You need to have a named chef restaurant, bobby flay and taught english. We opened the first casino in pennsylvania at pocono downs and we put in their ruth chris steakhouse and a bar louie and you create that many destination and decrease the attraction. You have to look for other ways for people to entertain themselves. Stuart mitchell, right the thick of the gaming industry and we appreciate you being here with your expertise. Major crises overseas, israel, it ukraine is still the markets hold on to near record high levels. We will deal with that in real time report next. We are down triple digits before the president deliver that statement on israel and ukraine. The president spoke, no major action declared, stocks come back at it. What is going on . Investors view uncertainty and unfortunately obama doing nothing is nothing new. I think investors have reminded themselves that situational risk is not as bad as they think. And finally, the fed is still in the game, so that is where i come down on this. Stuart its always the same nine times out of 10 down we go in the event hits and then we stabilize on the other side. Nine times out of 10 that is what happens. No go, you have a big name, is it up or down . It is down. If the big loser in s p 500 and they downgraded it. They cut the price from 35. This is because they do surveys of their own. They use companies that go to stores and use store scanners to get an idea of how growth is going i was thinking red bull in particular, but monster beverage overall and it turns out the sales are a bit weaker than expected in the grossest lowerthanexpected and its supposed to be easy. The other reason they are actually in the midst about battling a suit against a family that said there underaged minor head injury after drinking monster beverages and they are saying their products are not marketed to children, so theyre having to to contend with that. Stuart they have lawsuit liability again and that is a problem. Mexicos billionaire, which is now the world, carlos slim calls for a threeday workweek. You work 11 hours, three days a week, but you retire when youre 70 or 75. That is his idea. Liz, would you sign up . Initially guest and this story is catching fire and internet. What he is saying is you have to then retire at age 75. I dont want to work until a major 75. Stuart would you put up with a threeday workweek with a threeday income . And then you have to work until you are 75. I think thats a rotten idea. No, you work 11 or 12 hours a day and its up 36 hours about the same what you are working now and hopefully your income with a the same. Stuart keith, straighten her out. I dont know, live, i think where the government is going you and i may see each other when we are 75. [laughter] stuart since when has more leisure time made you your quality of life go up . Since when, keith x i love what i do for a living. I have to confess, i love what i do for a living also. I solve puzzles and i help people and i love it. Very fortunate. Are you saying you measure your quality of life by the number of hours you worked during the week . Stuart now, work is fulfilling. I think im very american in that. Im not european. Work is fulfilling in america. We are one of the most productive nations on the planet and its just wage growth has not kept up. I would like to have the option of the threeday longer workday. Stuart there you go, nicole. If i went to work five days because ive a go that week i will go for it, carlos slim. But, if there is a week i put in a 16 hour day on monday, tuesday and wednesday want to chill i like that option. And i plan on working until the end of time. Stuart i have someone might your drum tell tony time is up. Next up, highlevel chinese official is in for a big payday when alibaba goes public. Keith, will you be an ipo by are of baba . I think alibaba is a great buy even though we are talking about chinese insiders becoming billionaires. Its the same game all over the world. Politicians have been caught the cookie jar so me times the been outraged. They forgot about 2011, when all these guys were making money on insider deals. Alibaba, you are tagamet, expanding revenues unbelievable. I would like to buy it. Stuart a 23 billiondollar verdict against a tobacco company. I dont know if that will be paid, but will you now shy away from tobacco stocks, keith . Not particularly. Its like other stocks, like firearms and beer and booze even like the big banks. Its a drop in the bucket and i dont think the verdict will stand. Cigarette market itself is expanded 26 in the last few years. Even if its under pressure in the United States, internationally people still light up. Stuart we are out of time and we went so long about carlos slim and work until you are 75 we couldnt do the other subject we wanted to do. Thats it. Thank you one and all. Now, heres what we do every monday, the barons bounce. Today the stock is halliburton, Phil Roosevelt who put it into barons over the weekend is now counting for the barons bounce. What did you say about them . We said that halliburton is one of the leaders in the Booming Energy field that makes the equipment to make oil and gas that is hard to reach, the older wells, the offshore wells. Stuart they are leading in that field . They are being inundated in their technology in finding ways to unlock energy the others are getting. Stuart but you only have a 19cent gain. Thats not great by your standard. Its a big big stock. It is a game. Their earnings, which just got this morning showed their margins improving, which is part of our longterm. We feel confident the stock will work out. Stuart thats the barons bounce this monday morning. Thank you. Hee. Nry clinton making more than 10 million since leaving the obama administration. Hillary clinton has pulled in miionin t 1 mont sin she let the state department. That is roughly 750,000 a month from her speaking engagements and book sales. Liz mcdonald, shes not quite dead broke. Right, and that basically contradicts the i feel your pain kind of message the potential president contender was trying to deliver to the public when she talked about her wealth. Reportedly a 100 million is what that clinton made since the present left office in 2000. Stuart it puts him in that meant ronnie category. Surely that would be a problem come november of 2016fhit bill clinton is saying we were infected broke and 7 million in the hole, but we are tagamet the cleaning industry and what other president s have done when they left office.
