Unfortunately leaders have begun then able to overcome the sectarian differences that have been simmering to create color abilities within the Iraqi Government and Security Forces. Any action we may take to provide assistance to Security Forces has to be joined by a serious and sincere effort by iraq leaders to promote stabilities and account for the legitimate interest of of iraqs communities, and a security force. We cannot do it for them. In the absence of this type of political effort, short term military action will not succeed. This should be a wakeup call. They have to demonstrate a willingness to make hard decisions and compromises. In that effort, they will have the support of the United States of our friends and allies. Iraqs neighbors also have the ability to support this process. Nobody is going to benefit from this going into chaos. The United States will do our part. Ultimately, it is up to the hierarchies. We have doubled our efforts to help build more capable counterterrorism forces. We will continue the effort through our support of the modern opposition in syria. We are also going to pursue diplomacy throughout this. There will never be stability in iraq. We will be monitoring the situation very carefully over the next several days. Our Top Priorities will remain being vigilant. We will consult closely with congress as we make determinations about an appropriate action. We will continue to keep the American People fully informed as we make decisions. I will take a question. Are you reluctant to get involved . I think that we should, you know, look at the situation carefully. We have an interest of making sure that a group, which is a vicious organization and is able to take advantage of the chaos in syria, i think there are dangers of secretary and fighting, for example, the terrorist organizations try to overrun sites which could cause conflicts that would be very hard to stand down. We have enormous interest there. Obviously, our troops and the American People have made huge sacrifices in order to give iraq a better destiny. Ultimately, they will have to seize it. We are not going to be able to do it for them. Given the very difficult history that we have seen and i that we have seen in iraq, various military actions by the United States, by any outside are not going to solve those problems over the longterm. Anybody else . Mr. President , is the Syrian Civil War spilling over the border . I think that has been happening for a long time. That is part of the reason we have been so concerned about it. It is a challenging problem. And i it was resistant to some of our help. It has come around now to recognize that cooperation could be useful. Obviously, that is not the case in syria where president assad has no interest in seeing us involved there and where some of the governments are supporting us have been able to block, for example, efforts. This is a regional problem and it will be a longterm problem. We will have to combine selective actions by our military to make sure we are going after terrorists that could harm our personnel and eventually get the homeland. A very challenging, International Effort to try to be built. That is not an easy task. We are in contact with them now. We will have a better sense at the end of the weekend. We will be getting a better sense from them of how they may support an effort to bring about the political unity inside of our country. We have devoted a lot of training to the Security Forces. The fact that they are not willing to stand and fight and defend their post up against admittedly hardened terrorist indicates that there is a problem with morale, eight problem in terms of equipment and, ultimately, rooted in the political problems that plied the country for a long time. Last question. Think you. Can you talk a little bit about u. S. Concern of the potential disruption of oil supplies. We have not seen major disruptions in oil supplies. If in fact they were able to obtain control over major output, that could be a source of concern. As you may expect, all markets react to any kind of instability in the middle east. Not only are we creating some sort of backstop, in terms of what is happening in iraq, some of the other producers in the gulf are able to pick up the slack. That will be part of the consultation. The events have been happening very quickly. Whether it is military action or with the iraqgate government on these political issues. It will take several days. People should not anticipate that this is something that will happen overnight. We want to make sure that this is something that we have good eyes on. Gather all the intelligence that is necessary.
