interest rates. will the fed listen. what does it mean for your money. muscle cars are back. the detroit ought show -- auto show kicks off. about high gas mileage and horse power. >> those that know about sports cars are salivating about this vehicle. gerri: we're previewing the rival that is trying to win back american hearts. we have that on "the willis report" where consumers are our business. we begin tonight with new questions about america's political leadership and a rare admission from the white house that it made a mistake. the mistake they say, not sending a higher-profile figure to the weekend anti-terror march in paris. that rally drew political leaders from all other world. conspicuously absent was anyone from the obama administration. with us now, democratic strategist and fox news contributor doug schoen and "national review" editor rich lowery. doug i will start with you. >> sure. gerri: you say the president has abdicated global leadership this move? >> we have the really singular nation to advocate freedom liberty and the kind of liberal values i think we all hold dear. the fact that the president didn't show up, the fact that he would not speak about islamic terror, and the fact that we were represented only in the march by our ambassador, a good and decent woman but a political donor, not even a career diplomat is to me a great tragedy, a mistake and a is something that requires us to as people to be profoundly saddened and disturbed by. gerri: a strong statement. prime minister of britain cameron, angela merkel was there. benjamin netanyahu was there. mahmoud abbas was there. representatives, heads of states from all over. rich, ask you to listen to the excuse we got today from the white house, to the white house press corps from josh ernest. listen to this. >> the fact this is obviously a march that the planning for which only began on friday night and 36 hours later it had begun. the, what is also clear that the security requirements around presidential level visit or even a vice-presidential level visit are onerous and significant and in a situation like this, they typically have a pretty significant impact on the other citizens who are trying to participate in a large public event like this. gerri: that was a long explanation, rich, do you buy it? >> look, moving the president of the united states anywhere is a big logistical challenge but if president obama had said look this, is huge world event that symbolically extremely important and i want to be there, it would have happened. it could have happened and it didn't happen. i think root of it this president, he campaigned on ending war on terror. he wanted it to be over. it is very low on his list of priors. sew considers these sort of things an inconvenience and annoyance. gerri: that's what it sound like. >> and not what he wants to talk about. gerri: when you hear him talk about this doug his body language, talking about this, slumped in his chair. oh, another one of these. i felt like he was just board with this? >> well i don't know if he was bored, dismissive, i don't know but let me offer a personal perspective. i'm jewish. i am secular jew. don't spend a lot of time talking publicly about my religious faith but to have the incident at a marketplace and not have the president in synagogue, in paris, on saturday morning showing solidarity with the jews of france and indeed europe, who face unprecedented anti-semitism, i found this an embarassment and profoundly disturbing. >> you have jewish children in a liberal western society having to go to school basically under armed guard. that is an extraordinaire departure and goes to how important this moment is. gerri: i completely agree with both of you on this. and, just shocking he seems so dismissive of all of this. i truly don't understand his reaction. he got a double-whammy today. he is out announcing a cybersecurity effort against terrorism, right? he is saying we'll do something about this i will require companies to report to me within 30 days. if you are breached, and then, almost immediately centcom is attacked. doug, what was your reaction? >> my reaction we were being mocked by isis. the fact that the president spent time with the san antonio spurs, joking well he could have sent the vice president but he preferred to do it and not do his state of the union preparation, is this man living in alternative universe? absolutely right. gerri: twitter feed that was attacked okay. that is not the heart and soul of the pentagon. >> right. gerri: this not where generals share their darkest secrets. >> doug is right. we were being mocked this is one of the fruits of obama's national security policy we're not taken seriously by our friend and our enemies. those are both very bad things. gerri: so one of the points that was made by our own ed henry doug, today at the press conference, why the president didn't show up, why didn't he go to paris, everybody else did? ed said, you managed to make it to mandela's funeral. only three days to get there. that to me seems like a fair point, do you agree? >> of course it is a fair point. the president could have been in france if he wanted to be. the security challenges facing the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu are at least the equal if not more substantial than those facing our president but this is a larger issue that is security. this is standing up for american values, when we were under assault. gerri: i couldn't agree more. >> they said they're coming to the u.s. gerri. i believe them. gerri: i do too. i don't think there is any doubt. i want to play sound from eric holder over the weekend. and what is amazing to me, is he still talking about this in a way we did 10 years ago. listen to eric holder. >> the president has announced that on february the 18th we will host a summit in washington d.c. i announced that at the meeting so that we can come up with a way which we can deal with the root causes of this encounting violent extreme i'll. deal with the root cause what is it is that attracts these young men to these really negative idealogical groups. gerri: root causes. what is that liberal, you know, speak for? >> all poverty. what they don't want to say, and why they're saying violent extreme i havism they don't want to say islamic extremism. gerri: why not? >> they have a allergy to it. president of france is more at forthright we're at war with radical islam than an american administration is. i love the shows of unity and solidarity we saw in that march but much more important to be honest and truthful about the immigration problem europe has about the problem that islam mass and about the need to actually show these images. >> would you ever thought rich, the president of egypt, general assisi would be more compelling than our own president? >> i didn't. he is actually now someone who deserves a nobel peace prize because the president of egypt is very likely to face serious threat of assassination for saying the obvious truth that islam needs reform. gerri: over the holidays he came out, it didn't get a lot of attention. >> almost none. gerri: or play in it country. suddenly people started paying attention. there are calls everywhere that i can think of for the islamic community to come together, so-called, good islam i'ves and say, we don't agree with this. this is wrong. terrorism is bad. he did just that. and a stronger voice than our very own president, doug. >> absolutely. gerri: thanks for coming. >> thank you very much. >> appreciate it. great conversation. >> thanks, gerri. gerri: we want to know what you think. here is our question tonight. should president obama attended the paris rally? go on gerriwillis.com. vote on the right-hand side of the screen and i will show you the results at the end of tonight's show. we have a lack of leadership on terrorism right? a lock lack of leadership on oil. the cartel wages war on u.s. drillers pumping more oil into the market despite the supply glut and lackluster demand as american drilling jobs get the axe, isn't it about time this administration puts pressure back on opec? we're asking heritage foundation economy nick loris. welcome back to the show. i don't think a lot of people look at the story this way. they see low gas prices, low oil prices as a boon to consumers but what is really going on in the background here, opec is going along with the price reductions and they're not with holding supply. as a result oil continuing to plummet lower. do they have the upper hand here? >> they do, largely because their production costs are lower in saudi arabia than they are in the united states, because fracking in someplaces of the country is expensive but also because we face high regulatory costs from drilling in the united states too. so they have the upper hand where they can continue to put downward pressure on prices, continue to supply us output in the hopes we'll scale back our investments here in the u.s. gerri: what should the administration be doing? seems like there is no response at all from the administration to this. they're willing to sit on their hand. >> well i don't think is is the role of federal government to tell opec to stop their production. i think that is a market decision but we should be stronger about our energy policy and show, hey we're not backing down either. we can do things like approve the keystone xl pipeline or lift a ban on crude oil exports to supply american oil to some european markets where the middle east is taking advantage of. so there are plenty ever policy responses to show that the u.s. is serious about its energy supply and job creation. gerri: everybody knows that the president is not going to support keystone. he already on the record saying that. only thing he wants to support a non-traditional energy sources here. and at the end of the day he is hurting me and you and every other american. and also people who work for oil companies. at end of the day what would america do here? what would be the right thing to do to show that we're knot cowed by opec and we want to run our ownership and be energy independent? >> well, i think a big part of it is lifting the ban on crude oil exports. you will have a lot of these oil companies shutting in wells because the price is too low where we're preventing them from expanding opportunities to other markets. and when we have an open market full of competition, that is when our energy producers are going to take advantage of them, sell their oil overseas and create more jobs here in the united states. so it's a win-win and it would show that we're not kowtowing to opec. that we're serious about our own energy production. gerri: you know what is interesting? it seems to me the oil industry these today. >> they have two enemies, right? they have the government and they have opec. seems to me like the government should assist that industry and behind that industry that is so important to our nation's competitiveness. >> yeah. and the lack of leadership when it comes to the obama administration and energy is nothing new. especially when it comes to oil and gas sector. they failed to open up federal land. they have filed on more and more regulations. they failed to open up exports to opportunities there. they failed to approve keystone. so it has been one thing after another. and the oil and gas industry and american energy has really thrived in spite of the obama administration. certainly not because of it. gerri: we've got layoffs even today. shell in canada, laying off folks. lots to come. nick, thanks for coming on the show tonight. >> thank you. gerri: and still a lot more to come this hour including why the ceo of the nasdaq is pleading with the federal reserve to keep interest rates near zero. we're heading to detroit where flashy muscle cars are making a big splash at the north american auto show. let us know what you think. tweet me @gerriwillisfbn. send us an email to the gerriwillis.com website. we'll be right back. ♪ these ally bank ira cds really do sound like a sure thing but i'm a bit skeptical of sure things. why's that? look what daddy's got... ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! growth you can count on from the bank where no branches equals great rates. gerri: the detroit auto show kicks off today. there is new optimism about sales. driving the surge, better economy and one of the biggest makeovers auto industry has seen in years. over 100 completely redesigned autos and trucks hitting showroom floors. many unveiled today in the motor city today. with us the car coach lauren fix. lauren? >> yeah lots of excitement here. gerri: tell me what are the big trends. >> funny when you look what won car and truck of the year for mortgage america it was vw golf which included diesel lineup and fuel injected and performance mod definitely on the truck side it was the f-150 aluminum. the trend when you look at those winning vehicles is diesel performance. still looking at electric, electrification which is electric cars which is only 2.3% of the sales of auto industry and looking lightweight materials which give better fuel economist. hey, we're all fighting c.a.f.e. standards here. we're trying to come with better technology. the result is better cars. gerri: i got to tell you though, the vw golf, are you kidding me? why is that such a big car? >> it is really nice though. gerri: tell me. >> the whole lineup. you're looking at the vw golf is not just diesel, fuel injected and of course the performance model. it is completely new all inside and out. it was designed for the u.s. roadways. when you're looking at a german car you can get at very reasonable price starting around $20,000, that anybody can purchase that makes it a very good choice. the choice of performance you want. is it fuel economy? is it long distance like in diesel where you still have performance? or do you want fti which is a blast to drive. gerri: i love. that talk about diesel for a second because for a long time americans have not liked diesel. >> okay. gerri: but now it is being really promoted this this country. why? >> well it is becoming, one of the options instead of electrification. people don't want to be at the time they ared to a cord like you are -- tethered like you are with cell phone or don't like hybrid because of towing capacity. millenials don't have preconceived notions. my generation and older talking about the vehicles that make noise with black smoke. gerri: very very smelly. >> but that is that is from the '70s. forget that. today we're talking about vehicles with really, i have a diesel vehicle. i have a diesel suv i'm totally in love wit. my lease is coming due and buying another one. i am that much in love. we're looking jaguar and land rover, bringing in diesel for pretty much the whole lineup. they want to fight the germans so they're coming after them. >> i want to you can talk about the ford f-150. it has been hugely popular. now made out of aluminum s that going over? how are people responding? >> when you look at voting scores on the north american car and truck of the year website, most of the journalists voted for it because of the fact you're getting not just a truck with utility but where they took away the weight by using aluminum gave it back to the consumer in towing capacity and performance. looking at a vehicle actually toes more than the competition plus they gave massaging heats heated and cooled seats. got utility in the truck. i'm telling you, i have an f-150 truck that is older. i'm telling you this is so much better. leaps and bounds better. better towing capacity and performance. that's why that vehicle won. gerri: lauren i know you're in heaven in detroit at the show. thanks for coming on the show. >> thanks for having me, gerri. gerri: all right the italian auto brand, you know this, alfa romeo, hot cars making its return to the u.s. it is debuting its 4-c spider at the detroit auto show. fox business's jeff flock is with richard cox director of alfa romeo north america with jeff. jeff? >> i saved best for last. we fire it up, and see it moved to the spot on the show floor. how much is that, richard. >> we haven't announced pricing of 4c but the coupe goes from 55 to $70,000. >> they're moving it now. >> they're moving it into position for tomorrow. press days for tomorrow. >> if he hits gas instead of brake, that is 0 to 60 in what? >> 4.1 second. >> mid engain carbon fiber chassis. >> this is alpha return to the u.s. market. this is the coup version. convertible essentially version. that went up there. the lower one is the coupe right? >> that is the 4c coupe. that started hitting dealers in november of last year. >> they're about to to disassemble this, gerri. i want to show you the one on top. what is that? >> that is a 191 67 -- 1967, one of 33 cars. this is 1500-pound car. 238-horsepower engine. v-6 manuel, 1 off miles an hour speed. >> sells for? >> it's actually a regressive tax. it hurts lowest incomes much higher that night highest incomes. so again everyone who has a bank account. everyone who has an ira and a savings account will bear the burden of this tax. this is not a tax on the rich. this is a tax on most americans. gerri: every time i take money out of my savings account, that i'll have to pay some kind of levy or fee or tax? >> it absolutely does. actually i think it's worth pointing out european union has tried to institute such a tax for the past several years. and, you know what president obama and his white house have opposed it because they say compliance costs will be too great and it will be too hard to enforce. it applies just as much here. i don't know how they can be open to it here democrats on the hill. gerri: i have to tell you this sounds like nonsense to me. just sheer nonsense. this is the most obvious wealth transfer i've seen in a long time. you rich people you shouldn't have that money, we'll give it to other folks. does it strike you as the same way? (?) stop saying that. gerri: stop saying what? >> he's not wall street. gerri: he's part of it, my friend. >> he's part of the regulated part. control over the marketplace. what wall street wants is a free market place. fed or no fed -- gerri: i don't know if i agree with you. i think most den denizens they've loved these low rates and enjoyed this long period of time of low rates. >> well, i won't argue that the fed's intervention has benefited a small number of individuals. it's benefited who the fed said it would benefit. they've helped the wall street elite. whether they like that or not, that's a more subjective thing. the real issue what's good for the economy what's good for the country. that's letting prices roam free. most people think there would be higher interest rates. and there are different notification requirements as to government officials and reporting agencies and the like. trying to get some form of uniform standard, national law, a lot of people are worried that a national law could come with tougher state laws. they have to come with a formula that could say this is a floor and states have a right to make it tougher, but this is the minimum standard he in terms of notification. gerri: i want to switch up topics. a lot of consumers are concerned about their personal data being stolen and misused. one of our producers just got a letter from staples. remember staples was hacked. that was five, six months ago. finally this producer now getting a letter saying we're sorry we had a problem, five months after the event. here's what the letter said. staples security experts detected that criminals deployed malicious software. it may have allowed access to the purchases made between august of 2014 and september of 2014 at two stores from july through september. wow. do you find this as concerning as i do that it takes them this long to inform the consumers? >> well, there was a public information release that was put out about a month ago. that was still a very long time. gerri: but that wasn't informing individuals that they were actually at risk. >> but i think they were essentially saying if you shopped at the store between these dates -- gerri: so it's up to you to do the hard work and figure it out. >> basically you have to assume, every time you hear of a breach of any store you've shopped in you should be looking. the truth is, you should already be looking at credit and debit accounts on a daily basis and be signing up for activity alerts from your financial institutions. that does not excuse businesses to properly notify you and protect you. gerri: that's my point. i think you made good points about what consumers should be doing. but i think companies should be more responsible about handling this information and let us know the earliest possible time they get breached. they need to let us know when they have problems. >> when a company asks us to provide them with personal information at that moment, they have a fiduciary responsibility to each and every one of us to protect that as best they can. and several of the points in the president's bill of rights, the privacy bill of rights for consumers actually addresses issues like this. gerri: they address them on paper and may be nice words but we haven't seen any real action, adam. i've yet to see companies feel like they've got to get out in front of this problem and tell people right away. we wait four or five or six months. and then they tell us about the problem. thank you for coming on. the biggest bank in the u.s. jpmorgan chase was the target of hacking last year. tomorrow, get this, ceo jamie dimon sits down with maria bartiromo for the only televised interview he's doing. that's tomorrow 9:00 a.m. don't miss that. we want to hear from you. both president obama and secretary of state john kerry were no shows to paris' unity rally. should the president have attended? >> well, i like the ducks in this game. never won a national championship. but the bucks have all the momentum. urban myers the head coach. all the momentum. the ducks have been restless for years. gerri: let's go to professional football. that seattle game. i know they lost, i was surprised at what a show carolina was able to put on. >> cam newton was in a rollover accident was injured. played a big game. one costly intersection. but he played good enough to be competitive on the road. but, gerri the seahawks are going for the rare repeat in the super bowl. there's nothing stopping them in that building. they're pretty much unbeatable. gerri: i have to tell you, they are on fire. they look so revved up. i was worried they were on drugs or something. they were just vibrating, every one of them. it was amazing. >> toughest place to play in football just in seattle. it's the loudest stadium in football. those fans stand up throughout the entire game. it's very loud. other teams can't get an advantage. gerri: wilson was a real rock star. i want to talk about peyton manning. sad to watch the bronc onbroncosgame. >> he was hiding an injury with his legs. he was the reason denver lost that game. typically peyton manning is the best player in the sport. he's lost his fast ball. doesn't have the strength to throw deep downfield. i think he'll be back because he plays in the afc west. they'll host another home play joseph game if they win the division. gerri: he doesn't want to go out that way, but he looked old for the first time to a lot of people. do you agree?
