A laundry list in the op ed, tax reform, health care legislation, terrorism, reforming education prices. What will they get to in the first meeting on friday . Well, gerri, everyone should have realistic expectations what ultimately can happen here. Anything that the president s desk you need 60 votes. Which means you need a fair amount of democratic support in the senate. You need the president to sign it. If you winnow things through the through tests they are fairly minor. Good steps in the right direction. Keystone pipeline would be on top of the list. Maybe trade measures. Nothing that is really, truly transformative. Gerri that sounded like mcconnell was pointing to when he spoke yesterday. He seemed to be saying dont expect the world. Well not be able to get everything done. Susan, to you, what do Small Business operators want to see . Gerri, Small Business wants to see two things very critical. Not so much, healthcare. Theyre sending employees to exchanges with under 50 employees. They need relief from government regulation and taxes. Not just Corporate Tax reform. Majority of the Small Businesses are what we call passthrough entities. Right. Which means their income or losses goes over into their personal income tax return, gets taxed at that level. Here is what happens. That isnt going into their pocket. Theyre not running down to cabo and sitting on the beach drinking margaritas. Theyre using money to reinvest in the business as working capital to hire employees. Gerri thats right. Higher tax rates and personal levels they dont have money to do that. Gerri get rich back in here, okay. It is chokehold that is suffocating Small Businesses. Gerri so, rich, to you. All those points are very welltaken but i think both of those things, Regulatory Reform tax reform fall into buckets that republicans should set out agenda on. Should have a vote on the house but try to push through the senate but are not going to get through. Ultimately would serve the purpose of setting out a republican platform that is comprehensive, on all sorts of things affecting Small Businesses and working families and economy generally that become part of a platform for president ial candidate in 2016. But theyre not going to happen in this environment. Gerri susan, how important is it for you go right ahead. No, i was just going to say i agree with. That i think republicans right now need to tread lightly. Cant come out of the gate to aggressive to mess this up. The vote was really against the president and his people, not really for the republicans. They have a big job on their hands, to articulate a clear platform that makes sense to the American People. Gerri we all want a clear platform that makes sense to the American People but, rich, i think what a lot of people want is a better economy. Yeah. The economy is a number one issue and people arent content with it. Because of wage stagnation. Even though the Unemployment Rate is lower Labor Force Participation rate is shockingly low. That is what people want to fix. The republicans will not be able to address a lot but if they set out agenda it will gerri will be interesting. Susan, rich, thanks for coming on. The data breach that happened a few months ago, home depot now says additional 53 email addresses were stolen in that attack. In september home depot said 56 million credit cards and email addresses were likely stolen. This could make home depots data breach much bigger than targets last year. Home depot said criminals used a Third Party Vendors user name and password to break into its network. Again an additional 53 million email addresses have been compromised. Well bring you the very latest as we get it. On to education, will students minimize the College Experience to minimize their debt . That is an offer from some colleges. Cut the tuition costs by getting a degree in three years. We have the founder of turning point usa. Charlie, welcome back to the show. You sort of always been able to do this but now schools are actually cooperating, trying to help students do this. Do you think a lot of people will take advantage of it . Yes, and know. I think its a mixed bag. This is great option r shun for students who know the major is and know direction they cant to get done with school as quickly as possible. This is not a option for people that go to college who like the lifestyle and go into fraternity and go to football games. Think colleges are thinking in the right direction and going through the right process. I dont think theyre addressing the root problem. Threeyear College Degrees would be great if they got rid of geneds. Not accelerated college degree, eliminate half or entire year of college because why should engineering major have to study two or three philosophy credits . Doesnt make at love sense. Colleges make money. Gerri you make an interesting point and when i look at this, i think, why are we conduct the College Experience because we cant afford it . The reason we cant afford it because we have too much, public money, federal money floating college debt. That is the real issue. Why dont we go after that instead of manufacturing some other kind of education . Absolutely. What i think is really interesting there is evidence to show we can have a threeyear degree with less gen eds and effective result. If you look at university of illinois champagne, you can get a fiveyear program and get a, business degree and a undergraduate degree in five years and still graduate with equivalent of really two degrees because they reduce the gen eds entering freshman year. Gerri general education is what youre referring to . Absolutely. The again education lasts youre right. I will close with, students drop out at rapid rates when they cant experience their major right on. Getting a threeyear accelerated course would be able to do that if we get rid of some of the geneds. Gerri general education gened courses not in your major were talking about. Gerri here is my concern, right now, this very minute, were not talking about threeyear degrees. Were talking about sixyear degrees. 60 of College Students take six years to do a fouryear degree. The problem in many ways, isnt that we want to shorten the fouryear experience. These kids are staying for years. I mean absolutely. Gerri one easy way to solve the problem of expensive education so get people to get done with their studying in, and amount of time she should. How do we do that. Right. So we want to give students a purpose and a reason to continue to get their education. You find a lot of kids take five or six years to graduate college because in their early years theyre not studying things that would necessarily interest them as much as their major. And that is what the early classes in your freshman or sophomore year do. When you look at some of these other programs that are able to offer you to get right into your major, lets say youre social work major, get that experience right from the first day of class instead of going through things that are not relevant such as mathematics or philosophy or history. Gerri right. If youre able to script that, you see less dropout rates and students want more and more involved in their College Education and take ownership of it which is something we dont see as much because students take five or six years. I will say the program these colleges are offering, trying to get kids to get college done as quick as possible, work through summer, the problem that will work for the most dedicated students. What about kids taking six years . Theyre not, that is not going to relate to them. We need to offer a flee market solution, with a 2year degree, 3year degree and 4year degree and lets see how employers react to that. Gerri charlie, very interesting. Thanks for coming on. Thank you very much. Gerri when we come back, House Speaker john boehner is promising action on Keystone Pipeline the well have reaction. This Holiday Season is less likely the gifts will arrive on a sleigh as amazon enlists help of taxis. Well see that coming up gerri well some good news on the jobs front today. Adp montheport was stronger than expected but tomorrows report from the Labor Department that economists will focus on most. With more on this, steve moore, chief economist for the heritage foundation. Welcome back to the show. Thank you. Gerri 230,000 for adp, that is pretty darn good. Not great. But its a food number. I said on your show for many weeks i do think the economy shifted into a little bit of a higher gear. Were out of the 2 rut and may be up to three. Three is not anything to uncork champagne bottles but feels a lot better than what weve had. I feel this change in leadership in washington and congress will be somewhat bullish but not excessively so. Gerri friday is the big jobs report. Yes. Gerri consensus expectations 231,000. Not quite as good as the previous report. Were chegging along. Hold on can i Say Something about that . Gerri yes. We shouldnt, why do we use the Unemployment Rate number anymore . Hasnt become almost meaningless . Because you have so many people out of workforce. I used to be slavish to the Unemployment Rate no matter what happened to it. Gerri it was first thing you talk about. It has become meaningless. Real Unemployment Rate is closer to 8 or 9 because we have some people that quit working. I think American People by the way laugh at these numbers too. You were asking me off air, why is it even with the improvement weve seen in the economy people are not feeling better about it . It may be gerri, were not measuring the right things. Dont know from the federal government how many people are underemployed. How many people have a phd in god knows what and theyre a barista at starbucks. You dont know the number. It is not inconsequential. This economic anxiety is a wet blanket over the economy. That came shining through on election night. Theyre anxious and worried, almost excessively so i think given i think where the economy is where i things have picked up. Gerri i dont think they trust it. They saw what happened in the first quarter. We went negative. Exactly. You mentioned that regular americans, middle class americans feel like the world is topsyturvy and not going well and they cant trust the numbers but what about wall street . Hear paul singer. I know paul. Gerri Famous Hedge Fund manager had to say recently. Nobody can predict how long governments get away with fake growth, fake money, fake jobs, fake Financial Stability and fake Inflation Numbers and fake income growth. Wall street doesnt believe it either, steve. I think that is the concern among people on wall street and people, just out there on main street. There is a sense out there that the economy is built on sand right now. That it is built on this huge, immense, six, seven trillion dollar increase in debt. A lot of this phony money paul singer is talking about. Gerri were talking about the problem is, we dont know the answer to this gerri. Weve never done this before. We never had 3 to 4 trillion gerri never done this youre talking about the federal reserve, right . We have never, this is unchartered territory and usually it ends badly we know from other countries. But maybe janet yellen can gerri weve seen some of this before though. Because remember, the punchbowl sat there for years and that didnt end so well either. Alan greenspan was the fellow who got in trouble for allowing rates to stay as low as they did for as long as they did and boy, did that bubble burst. A lot of people got hurt. Look, consumers are not stupid, right. Right. Gerri they have seen this movie before and theyre worried it will happen again. Let me Say Something optimistic. Everything you say is true but you know american companies, if you look at their productivity gerri it is impressive. Their profit, they look good. In fact a lot of experts i look at still think stocks are undervalued relative to where their profit streams are. So you know, there is upside to this. If we get those profits, reinvested into the economy, for jobs and machinery gerri that is the disconnect right now. If that happens you could see a big burst of growth. That is the upside. Gerri steve, always nice to have you here. Great to see you, gerri. Got to end on optimistic note. I appreciate that. On to amazon, your next amazon. Com package may just arrive, in a taxi . The ecommerce giant is looking into alternative delivery methods to speed up shipments all in time for the holidays. Here with more is eric shipper, ceo of patriarch equity and digital marketing. Com. I cant believe this, eric. This seems crazy to me. Why is this happening . Why is it so important for amazon to use taxis . Theyre looking for any way in which they can make the Consumer Experience better and look, if you can deliver same day it works. As we know last christmas they had all kind of delivery problems. So theyre constantly creating difficult ways to be able to experiment, to get packages faster, to the consumer, which is great for everyone as a consumer its wonderful. The question can they make money doing it . There are a lot of questions relative to that. Gerri i think what is so interesting about this, Companies Like uber and lyft have created a sort of vacuum for oldfashioned taxis. Made it possible taxis might be available for just this kind of work. And in fact when you scratch the surface of a lot of retailers out there theyre trying to find ways to do same day delivery. All new companies entering the very same arena, doing sameday delivery, one of those little talked about expansions going on under the nose of lots and lots of people. It is and you know, but it has been done many times before. I mean pizza delivery was done with taxis years ago but it didnt make economic sense. Really didnt. Yeah, so what theyre trying to do though is use these applications and to use people that are not getting work and typically in the morning, so they can make it work economically. The question will be can they, you know, will a taxicab by who is typically selfemployed contractor, will they be able to make a living with amazon who is not known to be a good tipper. Gerri not a good tipper. A lot of complaining amazon employees. Theyre rolling this out first in l. A. And san francisco. Those are the test markets. Is this something that could scale in your view . I think it could scale if they can get the economics right. It is still very questionable. I think it will be one of the potential things in amazons arsenal of delivery devices including, as we know, drones. Gerri well i was goes jogue to ask about that. Was going to ask about that. I am glad you brought it up. I
