I know as a journalist you present to the president elect or president ial News Conference you try not to interrupt so aggressively, try to move on at this point. A reporter and communications operative. I side with donald trump, the only people with worst trump derangement are cnn to a great extent. And trump wins every single day and twice on sunday. I know jim acosta very well. He should not have tried to shout down the president elect. Had the shoe been on the other foot and had this been obama or clinton, he would never have made the task to try to talk over the president elect and the dossier had never seen the light of day for both feed or been reported on by cnn. On mac you make some good points and i want to address all of these. Lets start with just the decorum. He makes a valid point, jim acosta might not have been as aggressive with obama or clinton, seem to lose all sense of decorum and attacked the president elect in that way. In part because the president lost decorum at the beginning of this press conference. He said the tone for this press conference when he went not just after the veracity of what cnn and both feed were reporting but after them as individuals and organizations. This isnt a locker room after a basketball game or something where you can go after whatever reporter you want to. That is not how a president acts, attacking a reporter personally, laughing at a senator of his own party. Police president ial press conference on mac setting a low bar and the reporter is justified in being extremely aggressive in a way you dont normally act towards a president elect or a president of the United States. Lets talk about Donald Trumps reasons for being so upset with cnn. Cnn went out and published a few pages of this dossier which was basically a whole bunch of gossip. Both feed punished it, cnn did not. Cnn reported on the existence of it. Trish you understand the distinction. We do verify everything we put on the air. As i said yesterday we can all have an opinion, we can debate, we can discuss, we can have an angle, but the essence of the information is true and we have verified it. This dossier was out there, Many Organizations saw that, nobody actually made it public until both feed had the audacity to do so which is a bad statement for journalism overall and cnn piled on by linking to that with a couple pages of that. You shouldnt even so much as say it. Several News Organizations had the dossier for several weeks. It is the worst kept secret in washington dc. Heres my problem with the edits reported, not that they might have published a snippet of it but what they did is they did it fast and loose with the rules of journalistic integrity by saying the Intel Community told trump about the dossier in their meeting which is not the central element of their meeting. It with a step aside, basically cnn wanted to make this another trump news eruption and donald trump had enough and here is the other thing. What the media doesnt understand the average person cannot follow these news interruptions with every detail because they dont have time. When they do this and play fast and loose with the is what happens is trump gets sympathy from his supporters and everyone else. Not everyone. Look, i think its fair to ask a lot of these questions, but lets not forget how public a forum that is, and they were questions, michael, that arent going to get him anywhere. I mean, obviously, Rex Tillerson cannot go out there and say im going to label Vladimir Putin as someone whos committed war crimes. I mean, not unless you want to get yourself into a whole bunch of trouble. Well, not unless he books a speech date in nuremberg. [laughter] no, seriously, trish, you know, i think marco rubio was asking questions that are directed against, in support of something thats been basically a part to a greater or lesser extent of American Foreign policy and diplomacy over the years which is the promotion of human rights. Now, as your comment suggests, we cant do everything wed like about human rights, we cant impose the bill of rights on other countries feasibly, particularly when theyre not particularly friendly. We have other considerations in Foreign Policy which might lead you not to trish but these are questions, michael, that cant be answered simply in a hearing like that. Well, i think trish im going to use force against china to defend japan, the next thing you know were going to be in a big, bad situation with china. Well, i think trish this requires diplomacy. Well, it requires diplomacy, and diplomacy can include and under many administrations has included to a varying extent advancing human rights to the extent the United States prudently can. And you can argue exactly where i think marco rubio was just trying, perhaps, to make a point of saying youre going to, there are going to be people here i you in the human rights direction, and thats something, mr. Secretary nominee trish so you dont think there was any malintent, you know, lets just get it on the radar screen, these are issues. Do you think that well, its trish hold on for one second, because youve got a Republican Party that in many ways is very different than the Republican Party of the last several decades right now. With trumps election, its become increasingly populist, theres this focus on the middle class which, frankly, should have been there all along but really has sprung up into action in a bigger way, and theres also a little bit of an approach, i dont want to call it isolationists, michael, but in other words, you know, we dont need to go sticking our nose in all these things that basically get us nowhere, we upset everything as we did in iraq only to find out, you know, we made it worse. We dont well, donald trump trish equip our people to get the job done and make sure its okay. Hes sort of saying, look, if youre going to go in, go in. And marco rubio [inaudible conversations] donald trump has been less interested from, judging from his comments so far and during the campaign, in the human rights promotion aspect of American Foreign policy than probably any president since richard nixon. Thats you could make arguments in favor of that position. But i think that, you know, the Republican Party also has people and rubio is one of them that want human rights to be a larger factor in our Foreign Policy, and hes trying to exert some pressure in that direction. I take mr. Tillersons comments to indicate, number one, he does not want to have issues and problems with labeling people war criminals, and as your response suggests, that would be probably a very imprudent thing to do at a hearing. [laughter] trish yeah. But also that hes listening and hes not responding in a way trish yeah. I mean, i think that senator rubio is trivial or stupid trish right [inaudible conversations] not going to go as far as youre going to go. She donated 60,000 to the making America Great again Political Action committee, and that just enraged some antitrump people, and theyre calling for a boycott of l. L. Bean. Here she is with our own maria bartiromo. Watch. Its a bullying. Its bullying me personally, its bullying, now, the company that didnt give the donation. I gave the donation personally. To a pac to support trump. And, you know, my cousin gave to obama four years ago, and he gave many more times the amount i did. But the point is we should have that privilege. We live in america. This is a free country. Maria isnt it i thought. Trish kind of makes a good point, right . Joining me right now, steve cortez, from Donald Trumps Hispanic Advisory Committee and someone from the finance community himself. Steve, whats happened . If you with express support for donald trump, people want to boycott you . They want to boycott your company . Trish, i think this is liberal intolerance at its worse. The left always claims to be about diversity, but you know what . It loves diversity of appearance, it hates diversity of thought. And i think this is emblematic of that larger trend. We see it on college campuses, on some of these boycotts. This trend of boycotting and making, instituting a commercial penalty for having a conservative world view, it first reared its ugly head a couple years ago when the ceo of mozilla was forced to resign because he dared to personally nothing to do with the business he dared to support a traditional marriage advocacy group. Now we see this same kind of thing in here. L. L. Bean, theyre not publishing by the way, i would be fine with if consumers said l. L. Bean as a company is somehow protrump, theyre making make America Great again boots, of course, vote with your wallet. This is someone affiliated with the company, on the board who is making a personal political contribution which i believe is part of free speech and the law says it is, and were going to penalize them commercially . For having a view i dont agree with . Trish free speech itself is very much under fire. You look at college campuses, if they had a trump sign on the college campus, there were kids that were screaming they needed a safe space, and they had to be taken down, and universities complying with that, taking down signs and saying you cant put em up because its hate speech. My goodness, the guy is running for president of the United States. By the way, he won right. [laughter] trish, listen, i hope people purchase l. L. Bean items almost just to defy these kind of and by the way, this is liberal fascism. This is intolerance at its worst. Thats the irony, is that those who claim to be so tolerant, again, they want diversity of appearance trish wow, yeah. Somehow doesnt work both ways with them. Good to see you.
