You saw the table and chairs where hell be spending 90 mints with tim kaine today. And he would like to focus on Hillary Clintons record as secretary of state. He is said to have spent time with family and friends before the debate this evening. As for tim kaine, on the Hillary Clinton side of things, he was here earlier as well. Did the walk through, and speaking to clinton Campaign Officials, theyve been out and about in the spin room. They are confident the likes of jim palmieri and john podesta, somebody said donald trump would be live tweeting the debate and she said and im quoting, oh, good. Podesta when he was speaking to reporters earlier today thinks the pressure is really on mike pence this evening to change the narrative of the campaign, and talk to when you read into that, you can expect a lot of commentary what the Clinton Campaign sees as the issues that donald trump has been having with the twitter war, with the former miss universe. The trump tax story expected to come up a lot this evening. Thats what we expect. As for the candidates themselves at the top of the ticket, they wont be here in person neither trump or clinton. You talked about the trump rally going on at this hour. After that is done, mr. Trump expected to do the live tweeting from las vegas where hell watch the debate and Hillary Clinton will watch at home. Were not 100 sure. That would be back in chappaqua. Were getting closer. Are we hearing anything like surrogates say kaine will go after donald trump directly whether he goes through mike pence or not remains to be seen, and the poll numbers, you are right, back up this that the campaign story, the narrative is in their favor for the last week or so and keep it that way. Over and over again we heard from clinton officials today we the mission will be to stay on message and keep the stories dogging donald trump in the news. Liz whats interesting, connell, are you hearing that mike pence, hes adept at pivoting, changing the topic. If they go after trump, there was a question, an issue with Mike Chertoff saying if you have donald trump tweeting in the middle of the night, you want someone so quick to use tp Nuclear Button . Are you hearing that mike pence could deflect this and say okay, we understand that, focus on trumps policies for getting the economy to grow again and g it around . I think hed like to do that, liz, obviously, but he said himself hed like to turn it around and speak about his own record if he can tonight. What he was saying in the Campaign Rally was just that. Hed like to talk about the economy, that hes been a tax cutter in the state of indiana while tim kaine has raised taxes back when he was the governor in the state of virginia. So youve got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care, and then the people out there busting 60 hours a week wind up with their premiums doubled and coverage cut in half. Its the craziest thing in the world. The insurance model doesnt work here. Its not like life insurance, not like predicting floods, it doesnt work. Liz it was quite a night of candor, Hillary Clinton studiously avoided discussing obamacare and the problems therein, and here is Hillary Clintons Campaign Manager pretty much stumbling his way through an answer to bills statement. How would secretary clinton, if she becomes president , change the Affordable Care act, because as you know, former president clinton had something to say about it yesterday in terms of people that were not exactly commenting as well as they thought they might . Well, im sorry, i thought you were going to play a clip there. Really glad you asked that question. [laughter] would if i had one. But does secretary clinton agree with her husband, former president bill clinton that obamacare is a, quote, crazy system that hurts Small Businesses . Well, what he was referring to was the Health Care System both as it used to be, and then sometimes what happens in some of these markets, you know, where basically the marketplace excuse the cost. Liz what do you think of Hillary Clintons Campaign Manager dodging whether hillary agrees whether obamacare is a crazy system . There needs to be clarification. If bill clinton was talking moving towards a single payer system, im with him. If hes trying to appeal to obamacare to appeal to a different voter, i dont think thats smart. As far as Hillary Clintons stand, a republican majority in congress is ready to throw obamacare out, the question is, is she . Liz thats the issue because now, as you have seen too, weve been reporting on Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, the insurers are leaving a number of states. Theyre the back bone of obamacare. So obamacare is in pretty much on the precipice right now, right, sir . Let me tell you, yesterday in virginia, i talked to a couple that theyre new parents and the woman had a cesarean and they would have paid 45,000 except they ended up paying 400 because of obamacare. So theres another side to the picture here. I favor a public option. I favor medicare for all. But when bill clinton goes out and goes after not just obamacare but by reference, barack obama, i think the clintons are treading on some very thin ice. Theres no need for a sister soulja moment. Liz weve seen double digit rate increases unheard of before reform took place due to obamacare. People struggling. They have Health Insurance but its Health Insurance they cant afford. Weve seen that. And now the blues are leaving, the insurers are leaving the exchanges causing costs to soar . Obamacare was Health Care Reform within the context of a for profit system. I want a notforprofit system. I dont know if strategically thats a good move because he could alienate obama supporters. Liz we have a newly released recording that reveals private Hillary Clinton remarks to donors saying obamacare does need fixing. What do you think of that . Well, if by fixing, she means to create a public option, she can get support for that. If by fixing she means to go along with what the republicans in the house and senate want to do which is fix obamacare by killing it, that is another matter. Again, id like to see Hillary Clinton stand for the same program that Bernie Sanders stood for, medicare for all, not for profit Health Care System. Liz im not sure the american polls are showing that. Move to mike pence, eric trump celebrating pences record earlier today. Amazing, dropped taxes every single year, reduced unemployment every single year, he took care of vets, did an amazing job, he funded the largest bill that infused cash into the educational system. He took care of the infrastructure system all throughout the state. He really did an amazing job, thats why my father picked him and hes going to be amazing do, a great job. Liz what do you think mr. Kaine can hit mike pence on . Obviously, mr. Kaine is a democrat, mr. Pence is a republican. There will be partisan exchanges. I dont know tim kaine but i do know mr. Pence and i can say from my knowledge of him, and ive worked with him in the congress, but hes a pretty standup guy, and somebody whos going to be formidable in this debate, he knows his stuff. She failed overseas, unleashing death and destruction, and she failed latinos and africanamericans producing only more poverty in our inner cities. So now, after years of failure, she complains about how ive used the tax laws of this country to my benefit, then i ask a simple question, why didnt she ever try to change those laws so i couldnt use them . You know why . She could have changed the laws when she was in the United States senate, but she didnt. She named a few buildings. Thats all she did. The reason she did not do that is her donors and contributors have used those same tax laws as i did. The same way. [cheers] i know all of their names, and i know who they are, but its not up to me to make them public figures, but just check it out. Two public hillary supporters who are known are george soros who declared losses of 1. 5 billion. [booing] soros declared 1 1. 5 billion in just six months, and Warren Buffett declared 870 million. Ask them, did they write off those losses . I doubt it, right . Oh, i doubt it. And there are many, many more. Many, many more, we could go through long lists. Take a look the her donors. I know how the tax code works better than anyone, and im going to fix it so its fair and just and works for you. Works for you. [cheers] these politicians, folks, dont have a clue, and if they do, they cant do it because their donors wont let them. Remember, im my donor. Im my donor. Hillary clinton made her money as a corrupt public official, violating the law, and putting her Government Office up for sale. [booing] remember, she left the white house. They said they were broke . And now theyre worth 250 million. How did that happen . The problems we face as a country are immense, and its going to take bold action to turn things around. Right now, we owe 20 trillion in debt. It doubled under president obama. Doubled. [booing] our infrastructure, roads and everything is like a thirdworld country. The homicide rate last year experienced in its largest cities, single year increase, its the biggest in 45 years. The biggest single increase. 45 years. Homicide. 45 years. Biggest increase. Our border is wide open,nd drugs and criminal cartels are pouring into the country and nobody knows that better than the people of arizona. Nobody. [cheers] and were going to stop it. Thousands of refugees are being admitted with no way to screen them and theyre instantly made eligible for welfare and Free Health Care even as our own veterans die waiting for medical care that they desperately need. Our annual trade deficit with the world is nearly 800 billion a year. Who the hell negotiates these deals . [applause] oh, its going to change, its going to change. Think of it. Trade deficit, almost 800 billion dollars a year. Its going to change so fast. Have you watched the stock market . Whenever i do well in the polls, other countries, their stock goes down, their stock goes down a little bit. Its not going to be much but we want a fair deal. [chanting] our state department, mostly under the watch of crooked Hillary Clinton misplaced listen to that misplaced or lost 6 billion in taxpayers money. How do you misplace 6 billion . We have the worst recovery, and i say socalled recovery since the great depression. The worst. Were not growing as a nation, were down to 1 . You know, if china goes down to 7 or 8 , its like a national catastrophe. They start devaluing currency, they do all sorts of things to take more business. Were at 1 , 1 and we act like, oh, its wonderful. In a bubble and we need to be very, very careful and we need strong and smart leadership. We need leadership that knows whats happening. Our College Students graduate loaded with debt only to discover they cant find jobs or certainly not the job theyre trained for or the jobs they want. Overseas, our failed leaders have empowered iran, iran was nothing three years ago, and now theyre telling us what to do. How do you figure that . They were nothing. [booing] and they are on their way very easily to Nuclear Weapons because of one of the dumbest deals in the history of our country. That deal with iran is a disgrace. Weve unleashed isis. That came out of the vacuum created by barack obama and Hillary Clinton the way they got the troops out. Weve turned iraq, libya and syria into total chaos. Our allies arent paying their fair share for military protection. Foreign countries like russia and china do not respect us, you saw just today russia broke the deal on peace in syria. Russia. No respect for this country, they have no respect for our leadership. They have no respect. Putin has no respect for Hillary Clinton and no respect for obama. Russia broke the deal and now theyre shooting, theyre bombing, Something Like that should end and it should end fast. But they dont respect us and our taxpaying citizens sent troops and foreign aid all over the world as their own cities cant provide most basic services. Jonathan gruber admitted in front of a group of his socalled friends and fortunately one of his friends wasnt so friendly, admitted that the wholesales pitch on obamacare was a lie. He called it the stupidity of the american voter. Do you remember that . But the only stupidity was the stupidity of our leaders who passed this disaster. About one of several campaign developments of the last day. Yesterday donald trump was asked a question about posttraumatic stress, traumatic brain injury and other challenges facing many of our troops and part of his response was that posttraumatic stress happens to troops who, quote, cant handle it. He said if youre strong, you can handle it. Many people are now standing up and speaking out against trump because posttraumatic stress is not something that strong people can handle and weak people cant. Some of the strongest men and women any of us will ever meet have experienced posttraumatic stress. Donald trumps comments are not just ignorant, theyre harmful because they give voice to the stigma that has led generations of veterans to hide their struggles instead of getting life saving help. That stigma still exists and lots of people who need help arent getting it. You know what doesnt help with that . When a man asking to be our next commander in chief stands up and says posttraumatic stress isnt a problem if youre strong. Vice President Joe Biden spoke about this in an interview earlier today. And he said that every morning he gets an update from the pentagon on how many troops were injured or killed around the world overnight. We learned earlier today that an american servicemember was killed by an ied in afghanistan. Every one of our troops matter. Their wounds can be visible and invisible. Most of us know that but apparently donald doesnt. Our troops deserve a commander in chief who understands and respects the sacrifices they make. Whether theyre living with posttraumatic stress or their p. O. W. s or dont make it home, and every family dealing with Mental Health challenges deserves compassion, whether they served in uniform or not. So i hope the voters are hearing donald trump loudly and clearly, and i want to thank our service members, our veterans and all of our military families for their service and sacrifice. A woman named jennifer grakey who is here with us heard what donald trump said yesterday and she contacted my campaign on our website to express her concern. She lost her husband to posttraumatic stress after he served honorably and bravely, and she wanted to be sure that i and everyone else understand the strength it takes to serve and the strength it takes often to deal with the problems and consequences of that service. Jennifer reached out to us and said that she lives in harrisburg and we invited her to be here with us, and im very grateful that she is. So with that, ill be happy to take some of your questions. [inaudible]. Reporter using legal methods and wouldnt anyone else have done the same thg . First of all, lets start with the fact that he lost a billion dollars. This is a man who spends hours every day proclaiming his great business skills and success. He lost a billion dollars, and as ive said repeatedly, thats hard to do when youre running casinos but demonstrates unequivocally he was a failure at business, and he wrecked businesses and by wrecking his businesses he wrecked the lives of his workers. He stiffed contractors, and he generally disregarded the wellbeing of the communities in which he operated. I have said repeatedly weve got to close all the loopholes that give special tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations and i will certainly do that, but there are some very successful Business People in america. I was in omaha some weeks back and Warren Buffett said ill meet him anywhere any time, ill bring my tax returns, let him bring his. Hes unable to put out his tax returns because theres more in there that demonstrate that he did business in a way that left wreckage behind him, and that he lost a billion dollars which gave him benefits that should not be available to him. So im very clear in my assessment that someone who is claiming to run for president based on his Business Success should be judged by that business, and i think what were finding out is deeply troubling. Reporter i met a man at rally who said hes a longtime republican, and i said why are you here . He said im here because im a longtime republican whos undecided and i want to hear what Hillary Clinton has to say. What is your strategy to get the undecideds to go with your campaign . Im glad he was here and im glad you had the chance to talk with him because were finding more and more republicans who are both coming to events and endorsing me, making it clear as 50 National Security experts did that they cannot vote for donald trump, they view him as unqualified and temperamentally unfit to be president and commander in chief. Were working as hard as we can during the next 35 years 35 years . 35 days to reach as many of the undecided voters as possible. When i work the rope line, i have people all the time say im make up my mind, after i saw the debate, i want to support you. I want some more information. Im feeling very good that now that americans are really tuning in and understanding the consequences of this election, were going to attract more undecided and, yes, even republicans and certainly independents to our campaign. [inaudible] im very excited and confident about tim kaine in the debate tonight because he understands whats at stake in the election. He knows what our policies are as youve heard me say, ken, we actually put a book out together to talk about what we want to do to move our country forward, so he is ready to go, toetotoe with mike pence on all the issues that matter to americans. Hes ready to take that fight to the trumppence ticket. He has an exemplary record as mayor, as governor, as senator to talk about solving problems, meeting challenges headon. I think america is going to be very impressed and really feel positive about tim kaine as our next Vice President. Im sorry, what . Reporter what about governor pences task at hand . Well, im not going to really talk about governor pences task. He has a huge burden defending his record and Donald Trumps and well see how well he can do that. Reporter hi, secretary. Hi. Reporter Julian Assange says he plans to release documents in the next five days that could affect the u. S. Election. Are you worried there is anything that could come out that would upend the race . And related to, that there is a report going around that we joked about assange cant we just drone the guy . Did you ever joke about droning him . I dont know what hes talking about and dont recall a joke, it would have been a joke if it had been said but i dont recall that. [inaudible]. Reporter second part of the question, former president bill clinton raised eyebrows when he said the Affordable Care act is the craziest thing in the world, he tried to clarify today. Do you wish he used different words . Can you clarify what he meant . Do you worry it will undercut what you want to build on and expand the Affordable Care act . No, i dont. Tim and i have been emailing back and forth, i know how intense it is to prepare for a debate, and im really proud of how seriously hes taken that preparation. Were going to be keep emailing, i dont want to interrupt his rhythm by calling, ill talk to him after its over. He sent a great assessment of my performance in the first debate which i found right on the mark and very helpful. Now with respect to the Affordable Care act, ive been saying weve got to fix whats broken and keep what works, and thats exactly what were going to do. I am committed to making sure that people retain coverage that they can afford, and that is going to require taking on premium costs and deductible costs and Prescription Drug costs and it is challenging to try to make sure that this important step toward providing insurance for every american is fixed and not repealed, which is the republican position. So its a little challenging when youve got somebody like donald trump talking about doing away with the Affordable Care act, turning our Health Insurance system back over to Insurance Companies which would not just and i want to stress this, im not sure every one of your readers or viewers really understands. What that means is not just that the 20, 21 Million People on the exchanges would lose their coverage. If you repeal the Affordable Care act, that means every american who is insured through your employer will all of a sudden go back to the days when Insurance Companies could deny you health care because of preexisting conditions. Where you would have lifetime limits. Where young people would not be able to afford cover whereas now they can stay on parents policies until the age of 26. All that and more is part of the Affordable Care act. This is a big deal, it affects about 195 to 200 million americans and so people need to really Pay Attention when trump says hes going to get rid of it and turn it back to the Insurance Companies, and then one of the strangest things hes said, and theres a long litany of those, one of them is how he wants to let Insurance Companies sell across state lines, he told an interview about a year ago, i dont care if china sells us our insurance policies. Imagine getting approval for your drug by calling beijing. There is so much he doesnt understand or care about. Were going to tackle it and fix it, it wont be easy but its a heck of a lot better than starting from scratch, which is unfortunately what the republicans want us to do. I think he made it clear what he was saying. Hi. Reporter preparing for a debate. Can you tell us a little about what you learned from your first debate with donald trump and how you will prepare for the next one . I learned that preparation is important, which is something that ive known because ive done a lot of debates going back to my senate years, and i learned too that its important to keep in mind what your objectives are and what youre trying to demonstrate to the tens of millions of people who are watching. This will be different because this is a town hall format and so it takes a different kind of approach. Youre dealing with people who i think are undecided voters who will be selected by the networks to be there, and so its important that you listen to their questions and try your best to answer them, so im going to do everything i can to get prepared and be ready on sunday night. Okay, thank you all, very much. Liz all right, that was Hillary Clinton taking questions in pennsylvania. We started off with the trump rally in arizona. A fistfight did break out at the rally and trump said anyplace more fun or creative to be than a trump rally . And mr. Trump brought up the issue about his tax returns and hes basically saying why change he said why didnt Hillary Clinton change the tax laws when she was senator so i couldnt use them . And he said the reason why is her own donors and contributors used the same tax laws to report losses. He said george soros and Warren Buffett used the laws as well. Hillary clinton making news saying she didnt recall joking that she would like to drone wikileakss Julian Assange. A lot of revealing stuff. To help clinton just said, lets bring in trump economic adviser Peter Navarro and former senator scott brown. Senator, what did you make about what donald trump was aki about the tax laws and saying george soros and Warren Buffett hes taking advantage of the tax code available to every american. Every business person trying to make a difference, trying to create jobs, go out on a limb and help the economy, sometimes it doesnt work out and our tax code allows you to take losses and carry them forward. So hes right, before i got there, emac, they had a supermajority and they had a president who was charge, president obama. They could have done all the wonderful things with the tax code and they did zero. Its another way to beat donald trump into doing and saying other things and get offmessage and i dont think its going to work. Liz Peter Navarro here, donald trump said in his 1997 book, i lost 900 million. Im not sure why this is news. Peter, lets turn to Hillary Clinton saying trump should release tax returns because youre going to see he left a lot of wreckage behind him. Thats the reason why he doesnt want to release tax returns, 2002 to 2008, he could release those because theyre out of audit. These are people who lose money and make money, hes a billionaire. Liz she says what is he hiding . This is the microcosm of this whole race, we saw a rally where donald trump had a crowd energized, he was talking about policy, the contrast, Hillary Clinton, it was an upbeat mood, its hope for the country, and switch to this thing where very somber and all Hillary Clinton wants to talk about is donald trump. She doesnt want to talk about her policies. She doesnt want to talk about her responsibility for all the bad policies, and i think the most interesting thing trump said is i make my money legally and honestly, Hillary Clinton and bill clinton are running the most sophisticated political corruption operation in american political history and it is the most sophisticated because it involves two politicians, not one.
