FBC Risk And Reward With Deidre Bolton May 27, 2016

Rate over time and probably in the coming months such a move would be appropriate. Deirdre adam shapiro has more from the nyse what this means for investors. Curiosity question, how much were traders talking about this today . Reporter not terribly much, they already priced it in. They say investors expecting a rate increase come june or july. There are things that could pose a problem for that, but in a lot of ways if you take a look whats happen mth markets, there is a 25 expectation there will be a rate increase come june. Only thing that might throw a hiccup in that is the fact that the people in the United Kingdom will be voting on the brexit leaving the european union. As soon as Janet Yellens comments were announced, you saw the dow fall slightly, into negative territory and came right back. At the end of the day, the dow was up 45 points. Its up for the week, 2 . The s p 500 was up almost nine points. Almost up for the week, 2 and the nasdaq up 31 points, almost 3. 5 . Heres something to keep in mind. Volume has been very light and for the last week volume is down, different traders tell you roughly 20 . You see that as an indicator people are nervous. The other indicator, deirdre, is that huge amounts of money are flowing out of equities. Year to date, seen something close to 59 billion leave stocks, mutual funds out of equity funds, that indicates people want to stay on the sideline, have money parked in a money market until its time to jump back in. Most of the traders say if there is an Interest Rate increase, people like ben willis said that could be positive for stocks. We have yet to see. Deirdre thank you as always. Adam shapiro from the floor of the new york stock exchange. From the domestic economy to global one, g7 meeting wrapping in japan. While president obama was there, he visited hiroshima, laid a wreath at a peace park this morning. He did not apologize for the u. S. Use of atomic bomb. Retired Lieutenant General Tom Mcinerney with me now. General, welcome back, glad to have you. President obama became the first sitting u. S. President to visit the site of the devastating bombing. What is your take how he handled the tone of the visit . Reporter first of all, deirdre, just him being there is an apology. And hes very good at apology tours, as we know starting out going to egypt and apologizing to the muslims. Going to cuba, going to vietnam, and now to hiroshima. I think that the tone was something that no one is going to look at the tone, the japanese people love it because in their society, he has apologized to japan for doing that. Nobody talks about pearl harbor. Nobody talks about the brutal attacks in nanking and china and the rape of nanking. All of the brutal things that the japanese imperialistic forces did. No matter what he tried to do in his tone, its not going to come out that way. Deirdre you are saying he essentially supported japans willingness to forget their role in world war ii . Absolutely. Spot on. No question about it. Deirdre all right, now today, president obama said he looks forward to a nuclearfree future. I want to play his comments and get your reaction. Heres what he said. Among those nations like my own that hold nuclear stockpiles, we must have the courage to escape the logic of fear and pursue a World Without them. Deirdre so how do you reconcile those comments with the nuclear deal struck with iran last summer . I dont. What is the logic of fear . I have never heard of this. The fact is our Nuclear Forces have deterred and dissuaded people for 71 years, since the end of world war ii. We have not had a global war. That genee is not going to go back in the bottle. He gave iran 100 billion to improve this economy, to enable them to test icbms, to pay north korea to develop the Nuclear Warheads, he has improved the opportunity for iran to develop Nuclear Weapons and be a Nuclear Power and he says this . I cant couple those two things together, deirdre. You are not alone in that. But since you mentioned north korea, i want to ask you about a statement that came from that government essentially accusing the u. S. Because of president obamas visit to japan of the u. S. Seeking domination in asia with the implication and the world. So his quote, the u. S. Has misled the Public Opinion by creating the impression that Nuclear Threat from North Carolina is the biggest problem facing the international community. This is the height of hypocrisy. Obamas trip to the abomb city would not hide the u. S. As the nuclear war maniacs. Obviously that statement is coming from consider the source. Is there a u. S. Response on that . Clearly, we do not think they are the greatest threat. They are a threat. Kim jongun is very unstable. It is very worrisome. They detonated four Nuclear Warheads to date. Theyre pending a fifth, and we believe, we know that they have been helping iran to develop theirs covertly and all that technology is going back to iran. So the fact is we are not the greatest threat in the region. The fact is the United States has never been at such a low point since the end of world war ii, and when youre at low points, deirdre, it invites rogue dictators to take actions that are not stabilizing. Deirdre our own k. T. Mcfarland telling us as well exactly as you are, general, the last few months of the obama presidency, every bad actor is going to come out and retest whatever limits we have. Retired Lieutenant General Tom Mcinerney, thank you as always for the time. Wish you a good long weekend. Thank you. Deirdre with more reaction to president obamas trip, my political power panel is here, conservative commentator kurt schlichter, republican strategist gail trodder, democratic pollster jessica tarlov. You are right beside me, what is your take . We heard from the general from a military standpoint on president obamas visit to hiroshima. With all due respect, this is all about nation building and relationship building, and it was also a recognition of the work that japan has done in supporting us and returning that favor especially with the threats coming from a rising china in the region and obviously a nuclear north korea. I think it was meaningful on that level. It is important to remember one of the first things obama said is essentially im not apologizing here. Japan was at fault, and i think theres a problem generally with the fact that obama recognizes that we live in a multipolar world, and i think a lot of people would like to go back to a time where it was just america in charge. Its no longer how it is. And i think that hes much more willing to confront that than a lot of people, and not like i dont have problems with president obama. I dont particularly like a lot of the stuff that went on about the american exceptionalism conversation where, he said of course all the countries are exceptional and that is true and everyone feels like that about their own country. I like a lot of rahrah america stuff. Building stronger alliances across the world is critical. Deirdre curt, i want you to pick up where jessica left off in the sense there is north korea who is aggressive towards the u. S. China, friend or foe, probably depends on the day, at least on an economic plane is definitely a competitor. How do you see the president s trip . I see it as another example of his confusion, weaklessness and utter fecklessness. Holy cow, in front of our enemies, this guy apologizes for one of the greatest victories in mankinds history. A victory for peace, for justice, that required stern measures and harsh warfare and totally justified. Deirdre japan is far from an enemy in world war ii. No, it is no longer an enemy, its a good ally and i served in japan with Japanese Forces to protect the japanese people, but putting all that aside, you dont go to hiroshima and impliedly, not expressly and impliedly apologize for us doing what we had to do. That shows weakness, that shows moral confusion and military and strategic confusion. Its another pathetic display from arguably the worst president of the last century. Deirdre gail, we have gotten two clear military views, the generals and kurts. Jessica is our democratic voice. How do you see it . People of goodwill want to work towards peace. Thoughtful people understand sometimes in order to achieve peace, we have to go war and kill our enemies. President obama through his speech at hiroshima demonstrates this second truth. He shows hes wrong on global history and hes wrong on foreign policy. I think people tend to forget in the battle of okinawau over 100,000 to perhaps 300,000 japanese civilians died, dropping the bomb on hiroshima was the natural thing to do. It was motivated by truman wanting to end the war quickly, and not only limit the damages to the american servicemembers who are over in japan trying to fight for freedom, but also the effect that it would have had on japan if there had been an okinawautype battle. Deirdre from all accounts, calculation, there is no argument that it saved more lives than it hurt. As painful as that admission may be. I want to continue the conversation, stay with me, please. More with kurt, gayle and jessica in just a moment. Going to space may be getting easier and cheaper. If something happens this hour, if it does, well take you there. This is part of elon musks vision for transport company spacex. Multiple attempts that started in january 2005. The Company Successfully landed two rockets in the Atlantic Ocean in the past two months. The launch originally scheduled for yesterday was delayed due to a small mechanical problem, but it is now set to take place in about 30 minutes time. If it happens, we will bring it to you. In the meantime, senator sanders giving Hillary Clinton a run for her money. In fact, some say she has a good chance of winning the california primary june 7th. Were going to talk about that. And talk about mitt romney as a lone wolf, probably the last one standing against donald trump and the republican party. Trump making comments earlier on Hillary Clinton. She lies so much. She was saying last night, so many things. Donald trump wants to see japan get Nuclear Weapons. I never said that. Deirdre romneys attacks may end up helping Hillary Clinton, at least that is one point of view. Were going to brief you. Okay, ready . Whoa [ explosion ] nothing should get in the way of the things you love. Get americas fastest internet. Only from xfinity. Deirdre looking at a live trump rally in san diego. Donald trump releasing a statement he will not be debating senator sanders in california. Heres a statement my guests are back, kurt, gayle, jessica. Gayle, is that the easy way out or a smart decision. Its a smart decision, he needs to run out clock until the convention, and that would only give him an opportunity to be beat upon by sanders and it would deflect some of the attention away from hillary. Hillary would love to see a debate between sanders and trump. Deirdre it would make her look very bad to not have a seat at the table, and so it would elevate sanders even more than hes been elevated by this kind of grassroots passion, but on the idea of unity, gayle, sorry, didnt mean to cut you off. Finish your point. That is the conventional wisdom, people are saying. That i think it would help hillary, she would say shes not a part of the circus. She is a policy wonk and rises above. That it would help her. Deirdre interesting, she could say im president ial and the outliers can fight it out and the outliers tent. Kurt, speaking of outliers, unity. Who knew that the Democratic Convention was spicier than the republican one. Looks like thats whats happening. Mitt romney is stubbornly, if you want to call it that, still the only republican voice against donald trump. Why do you think that is . Well, there are a lot of them, deirdre, theyre getting fewer. But you know, mitt, you lost go away youre done. Your finished. I got to tell you, deirdre, im depressed i really wanted to see bernie and trump fight it out. Deirdre that would have been a good one. This would have been great and donald trump, who im going vote for in the general but ted cruz in the california primary because im a real conservative. Donald trump has to do what he says hes going to do. He said he would debate Bernie Sanders, i dont understand going back on what you say. Say what you do, mean what you say, and then do it. Deirdre youre the lawyer, kurt. Im doing what i should be doing, doesnt pass muster. It wasnt a binding promise. Deirdre all eyes on california. This is the granddaddy of them all, it may leave hillary limping towards the nomination, even the new york times, the headline, it is less of a sure thing for her. Jessica, as our resident democrat, what do you think, seriously, are sanders chances against Hillary Clinton in california . There are a lot of progressive pockets in california. Absolutely. Hes been out there having a huge rally for weeks, has a huge ground game. In may he lost his state director, and remember the group of supporters who wanted him to exit the race after california and create an independent organization to go after trump . There are those within the sanders camp who know how math works. Not that many of them, i dont think its Bernie Sanders himself, it is out there. Chances are Getting Better and better, the real clear politics average has hillary up by 8. Recent polls shes ahead by 2. Deirdre and libertarian president in silicon valley, and you never know actually there is a libertarian candidate or two polling. Gary johnson is at 10 with bill weld who will be his running mate. There are a lot of things that can happen here. I still think she wins and a small margin, the argument will continue to be sanders has the momentum even though she has the votes, the pledged delegates and all that jazz. Deirdre is she limping with an arrow with blood coming out of it. A pink arrow with a h going this way. [ laughter ] thank you, all. Thank you for being here on a friday afternoon. So glad youre with us, kurt schlichter, gayle trotter, jessica tarlov. Have the best weekend. Happy memorial day, everybody. Deirdre you, too. Americans heading to the airports this holiday weekend. What travelers are facing, what the tsa is doing about those long lines . There is also a new superbug. This is about your health that has hit the u. S. But i couldnt bear my diabetic nerve pain any longer. So i talked to my doctor and he prescribed lyrica. Lyrica may cause serious allergic reactions or suicidal thoughts or actions. Tell your doctor right away if you have these, new or worsening depression, or unusual changes in mood or behavior. Or swelling, trouble breathing, rash, hives, blisters, muscle pain with fever, tired feeling or blurry vision. Common side effects are dizziness, sleepiness, weight gain and swelling of hands, legs, and feet. Dont drink alcohol while taking lyrica. Dont drive or use machinery until you know how lyrica affects you. Those who have had a drug or alcohol problem may be more likely to misuse lyrica. Now i have less diabetic nerve pain. Ask your doctor about lyrica. Deirdre the g7 summit just wrapped in japan. World leaders met and vowed to address Global Resource issues. Backdrop as well, fed chair janet yellen says the economy in the u. S. Continues to improve and seems as if rates could go higher. I think for the fed to gradually and cautiously increase our overnight Interest Rates over time, and probably in the coming months, such a move would be appropriate. Deirdre heritage economist steve moore with me now. Steve, welcome, glad to see you. So yellens comments about potentially higher rates in the u. S. Come at a time when japans are at a record low. What does this mean for our economy . Well, talk about spoiling a threeday weekend. [laughter] take away the champagne bottle when the party is supposed to get started. I disagree with janet yellen, show me the signs, deirdre, that the economy is Getting Better. I dont see the signs shes looking at. I look at gdp report that came out today. 0. 8 growth. Looking at business investment. Its lousy. Business profits are as low as theyve been in a long time. I just dont see the evidence that this economy is Getting Better as she does, and that would mean i dont see the case for raising Interest Rates right now. Deirdre steve, i was going to say for a noneconomist, sum total is our rates go higher, japans stay the same or move lower and the u. S. Economy faces a disadvantage in comparison to almost any other Global Economy thats industrialized and strong. Thats right, and look, when the economy isnt performing up to speed, as it clearly support. If were only growing at 1 , which is the average for six months. Show me inflation in the economy. There is some, slight inflation, 2 , closer to 1 on inflation. I dont see the case for trying to slam the brakes on the economy when its moving at glacier speed. I think we need stimulus. I made this point on the show but its worth emphasizing. The problem with the u. S. Ec
