Meeting with conservatives over charges of news bias, and apples ceo tim cook fielding tough questions on working conditions in china. Donald trump punching back at jeff bezos, saying that bezos is using his ownership of the Washington Post to slam him so that politicians dont tax amazon as they should. With me now, former republican president ial candidate, successful businessman herman cain. Herman, it is great to see you. Happy friday. Thank you. Happy to be here. Deirdre you are always a wonderful guest for us to have, but particularly today because there are a lot of issues. That is to say, the Business World and the political world overlapping. Yes. Deirdre so i want to ask you first and foremost if you look at a boxing ring with donald trump in one corner, jeff bezos in the other, what do you think . Billionaire against billionaire. Deirdre thats right. I think donald trump is going to come out in this particular fight, and heres why. The big question isnt whether or not bezos is doing something relative to antitrust or monopoly, its the assigning of 20 reporters to dig up dirt on trump. Theyre not going out there to dig up good stories on trump, its to dig up dirt. And the American People are tired of that. And i happen to think that it could possibly backfire. Deirdre so in many regards, people who see trump as embattled and fighting the system, they just want to support him more. But let me ask you this, what if the Washington Post is also digging up dirt on Hillary Clinton . Because in theory, journalists should be asking questions of everybody. Equal dirt would be fine. But they havent announced that theyve assigned anybody. Do you know what lame excuse i heard someone give as to why theyre not putting on Hillary Clinton . Well, shes been in the public limelight so long, there isnt much to find out. Are you kidding me . Youve got benghazi, youve got the email scandal, youve got the foundation, youve got a whole lot of questions. Deirdre theres material. He ought to be putting just as many people over there to connect the dots on all of that, but hes not doing that. Trump has a very good point. Deirdre so speaking of fair treatment in the press, theres a Company Called gizmoto which published a report, essentially, on facebook saying that in facebooks news feed that any kind of story that is conservative in nature has, essentially, been struck from this live feed. Yes. Tier deirdre now, Mark Zuckerberg says it is not happening, he put out on facebook today, this is not what we believe, and he says in the coming weeks ill be inviting leading conservatives and people from across the political spectrum to talk with me about this, share their points of view are. I want to have a direct conversation about what facebook stands for and how we can be sure our platform stays as open as possible. So at least in theory this feels like the like response, right . Yes. Thats the right thing to say. Whats going to matter is if he finds out that its true, he needs to come clean with the public and describe what is he going to do to fix it. If he continues to deny it when some former employees have said that this is, in fact, the case, he has a problem in terms of the integrity of facebook. It is a universe thats of itself. Deirdre yeah. Theres more than a billion daily users. It actually, it has a lot of power which i think we shouldnt just gloss over that. But hes going to have to come clean with the public if he finds something and explain what hes going to do about it. Deirdre speaking of what a leader needs to do to address a difficult situation, apple right now is investing a billion dollars in a competitor to uber, the rideshareing company, and this is in china. Yes. Deirdre some people are saying, okay, apple wants more exposure to china, or apple wants to bet against or hedge its bet, not support uber, support a competitor. Cynical people say apple is actually trying to grease the wheels, if you like, in china. Favor a home grown company so that its other business dealings are made easier. Thats a good possibility. And the thing is apple has enough money that if that doesnt work out and they lose money, they wont be hurt. See, as a leader, im a big proponent of focus. What do cars and transportation and taxes have to do with iphones and ipads . Thats my question. So, but theyve got enough money to try that. Deirdre i was just going to say, apple has 178 billion on the Balance Sheets theyve got plenty of money to try something else. And maybe youre right because in china this i do know. The better you get along with the establishment and the government, the better you can open some other doors. So i think your theory could have some credibility. Deirdre and i think some people have said, look, apple has had a difficult time innovating since steve jobs passed away. Tim cook may be a good steward, if you like, but its hard to come up with gang gents that were all gadgets that were all going to want to buy. They cant think of another gadget, so they have to start invest anything businesses. In order to grow their sales and profits, this might be the strategy they have. I dont know, but like i said, theyve got plenty of money to lose. Deirdre theyre also taking some hits, herman, for video of Living Conditions for chinese workers. And i remember we spoke about this probably more than a year ago. There were nets put up at foxcon because so many of the workers in china were putting together the iphones we all buy were committing suicide. This is are the dailymail. Com, the video, that is to say, is exclusive to them. But it shows conditions that here i think we would put on par with a jail. Yes. Deirdre and some people saying with 178 billion on the balance sheet, maybe apple could do better for the workers there. I have had people correct me and say, you know what . The workers are doing that because thats the best work available to them in their region. But on this issue of wages, i want to know what you see when you think of minimum wage, because you ran a very successful pizza chain for a very long time. Yes. Deirdre so when you hear people talk about minimum wage, what is your take . They are deceiving the public. The minimum wage was never intended to be a living wage. Secondly, i think you know from joes crab shack, you know from seattle, washington, that if you raise you force a huge increase in the minimum wage, two things are going to happen. Youre going to lose jobs which has been the case, and people who depend upon the minimum wage as an entry wage, they are out of luck. The teenagers that would normally start out with minimum wage with very little employment skills, theyre going to be left out. All you have to do is look at the evidence. But the people who are out here talking about raise the minimum wage, 15 the minimum wage, you cant live off minimum wage at what it is today to. You know what . Deirdre it was never created it was never created to be something that you live off of. I used to tell reporters when they would ask me, well, what are you supposed to do if youre trying to live off minimum wage . Dont. Do what my dad did. He lived off three jobs until he could live off of two jobs until he could live off of one job. This is just political narrative to try to make people feel like one party the democrats are in their coroner. No, theyre not corner. Deirdre well, and it covers up the larger problem of the low Labor Force Participation rate yes. Deirdre weve been talking about. Maybe for somebody that is the only job he or she could find, and maybe it is somebody whos 45 years old and doesnt have any other opportunities, and thats a bigger problem. Yes. And it also covers up the fact that this economy is stalled. Nearly 2 gdp growth is stalled. not a recovery. Its not a recovery. This has been the worst socalled recovery in the last 50 years. Someone has done, there have been analysis after analysis. So it strives to deflect it over to this rather than face the real problem that these economic policies more taxes, more regulations they simply arent working. E herman cain, u so much. Around the world in a minute. [laughter] herman cain with me there, former republican president ial candidate, successful businessman. Speaking of minimum wage hikes, both mcdonalds and yum foods, parents of taco bell, pizza hut, didnt fare so well if you look at their stocks, closing down. Wendys, by the way, slightly higher relatively unchanged on the day. The dow if you look down almost 200 points, the nasdaq lower for the fourth straight session. Longest losing streak, we want to point out, since october 2014. As for the dow and the s p 500, first three week losing streak since january, so you had financial stocks, consumer stocks and Energy Stocks all lower across the board. We do want to bring you an update on a story we covered last night. So the subject, a bill that some say would have expanded rights for Illegal Immigrants living in delaware. The state senator sponsoring the measure, brian townsend, has withdrawn, since withdrawn the legislation. We have reached out to townsend to invite him on this program to discuss the issue. Of we hope he epps. There is a new report out that the clintons charity arranged a 2 million pledge to a firm owned by one of bills friends. We will bring you the details. And forget private emails, details emerging that allegedly show Hillary Clinton may have used her home phone to discuss official tate business. State business. Well talk about the evidence after this. Have you always told the truth . Ive always tried to. Always. Always. Some people are are going to call that wiggle room that you just gave yourself. Well, no always tried to. I mean, jimmy carter said i will never lie to you. You know, youre asking me to say have i ever i dont believe i ever have. I dont believe i ever have, i dont believe i ever will. [bassist] two late nights in tucson. Blew an amp. But good nights. Sure, musics why we do this, but its still our business. We spend days booking gigs, then weve gotta put in the miles to get there. But its not without its perks. Like seeing our album sales go through the roof enough to finally start paying megs little brother i mean, our new tour managerwith real, actual money. We run on quickbooks. Thats how we own it. E. T. Phone home. When you find something you love, you can never get enough of it. Change the way you experience tv with xfinity x1. Deirdre critics of the Clinton Global Initiative say some donations it has received are from questionable sources. Now the foundation says it has strong toe nor integrity and donor integrity and transparency practices. There are new allegations, though, that one of the charities the Clinton Global Initiative helped to arrange at least a 2 Million Investment to an energy startup, one that is partowned by a family friend of the clintons. Peter barnes is with me now. So, peter, what does this mean for the integrity of the organization . Reporter well, its clearly a new controversy, deirdre, for the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Campaign over who the foundation was working with while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, especially companies that had business the Government Back then. The wall street journal reports that possibly in violation of irs rules the Clinton Global Initiative helped arrange 2 million in financial commitments for investments in a forprofit nebraska startup company, Energy Pioneer solutions, which weatherized houses. The firm is partly owned and headed by a clinton friend. Some investors were other clinton friends and contacts, and the Company Received an 812,000 grant from the department of energy in 2010 while Hillary Clinton was still in government. Now, in a statement the foundation did not deny its involvement with Energy Pioneer but said it did nothing improper or illegal here. It itself gave no money to Energy Pioneer. It said that one of the missions of its Global Initiative is to Contact People and organizations and put them all together and sometimes to get investors to invest in promising startups in the area of Climate Change and others, other areas. And some of these people may have been clinton friends. Now, the statement goes on to say, quote dozens of cgi commitments involve forprofit companies. The journal says Energy Pioneer lost money and has, basically, wound down most of its operations. No comment yet from the Clinton Campaign itself. The Energy Department says it awarded its grant in a competitive selection process. There you go, deirdre. Deirdre all right, peter. A lot of detail. Were grateful for it. Peter barnes with me there from fox business. There is also new information about the investigation into Hillary Clintons emails. Conservative Watchdog Group Judicial Watch released emails that show that Hillary Clinton directed one of her top aides, cheryl mills, the call her. The problem with the call that the phone line may have been unsecured. Former Intelligence Officer and retired Lieutenant Colonel tony schafer is with me now. So, Lieutenant Colonel, welcome. If this were an unsecured line, what kind of decision, what kind of information does that mean to the fbi . Well, look, it means that nothing of a classified or sensitive nature could have been discussed. And lets remember that it doesnt have to be classified. It could only be sensitive, it could be official use only, essentially. We have to remember that people are listening. We know that gucifer broke into her is server, open phone lines especially, you know, the phones get bounced all over the place, so theres ways of penetrating the signal. Thats the reason why you have technology thats given to these senior officials for purposes of securing the phone call. What appears to be happening here, and i just talked to Catherine Herridge whos been covering this, is that ms. Clinton refused any government technology. Zero. So in her house where you have, you know, you have a phone, we would have either what we call a stew or its essentially a secure device that attaches to the phone. She didnt want that. So the bottom line is as far as i can tell looking at the facts, she violated not only the policy, but the law jeopardizing national security. Deirdre Lieutenant Colonel, i want to ask you and i heard your point there because it is well made, indeed. But i want to turn your attention just in the interest of time if thats okay to this president ial candidate. She will most likely face donald trump in november. Right. Deirdre hes walking back comments on his idea of a temporary muslim ban. So heres what he told our colleagues on fox friends. Sure. Look, anything i say right now im not the president. Everythings a suggestion no matter what you say, or its a suggestion. I feel strongly we have to do something about when you look at radical islamic terrorism, we have a president that, as you folks know very well, we have a president who wont even use the term. Ive spoken to rudy giuliani, were going to put together a group, were going to look at the problem. Its a temporary ban. Were talking about immigration across the border, were talking about the problems that we have, tremendous problems we have on the southern border with the drugs pouring through. Deirdre so what do you make of his comments from your perspective as a military expert . Look, i agree with donald trump. Im sorry. Look, you have a problem in europe. We have seen multiple attacks, much of which were perpetrated by those who are in the refugee stream creating these small clusters of refugee communities which then became enclaves. Weve seen this. So i understand what hes saying. Hes saying we have to have a process of review. That makes sense. And then you determine what is potentially wrong with the current process and then reopen it up. I think simply put having the gateway completely open for anyone who wants to come here is going to result in the same tragic offenses weve seen in europe. We want to prevent that. We dont want to see american lives, you know, butch chery of american lives deirdre or people attacked new years eve and new years day exactly. I think hes trying to define more clearly what hes doing. I think its a prudent move forward. Deirdre all right. Retired Lieutenant Colonel tony schafer, we thank you, as always. Thank you, maam. Deirdre quick note on a programming note, anthony scaramucci, a member of Donald Trumps National Finance committee and host of fox business wall street week has a oneonone interview with former treasury secretary larry summers. He did have some choice words for the spectrum ty nominee, that is to say summers, on trump. Youll want to catch that conversation. It will air tonight at 8 p. M. Eastern time. Well, speaking of donald trump, our own jesse waters went out and spoke with millennials about the candidate. Heres a small piece. He [inaudible] if trump only likes his kind, why did he marry an immigrant . See i didnt know that, thats just something i bounced that by you. Deirdre all right. So more for you from the streets of new york. First, though, hollywood actor turned Hillary Clinton fu
