Explosive material, and devastating tornadoes hitting the south. We will look at what is in store for the region this weekend. In two hours the march jobs report, economists looking for 200,000 jobs added to the economy last month with the Unemployment Rate Holding Steady at 4. 9 . We are all over the jobs numbers. Turn to markets this morning. In asia overnight stocks hosting lower, shanghai composite with the nikkei average down better than 3. 5 , sharp selloff weighing on stocks in japan. European markets following asia. Look what we are seeing this morning with the decline between 1 3 and 2 in paris. Ahead of the jobs report futures in the us indicating a lower opening as well. We expect a 50 point decline this morning on this friday, april 1st. All that coming up and here to break it down sandra smith, Gary Kaminsky and jolene courtney. So happy to have you here. We have a major lineup this morning. Former 2016 president ial candidate and arkansas governor mike huckabee. Son of the Late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia will join us in an exclusive foxbusiness exclusives. And Loretta Metzner joining us ahead of the jobs number coming up this morning. We begin with the campaign trail in the battle for wisconsin tuesday night. Foxbusiness releasing the first polls ever last night. Here are the major headlights. Ted cruz among likely primary voters, 42 with donald trump at 32 . John kasich coming in third at 19 . If you break down the key voting groups ted cruz holds 46 support from women in wisconsin. Donald trump has 27 and john kasich has 21 . Joining us is Fox News Contributor angela macleod. Good to see you this morning. Interesting number from the new foxbusiness paul. Ted cruz is going to take wisconsin and donald trump making that debacle with abortion statement wont bring more women to his side but it will go back and forth. Trump is going to win new york. How does that impact the convention . It will be a brokered convention. Maria we go into july for the convention. How does that play out . I am very happy trump met with the head of the rnc yesterday. It gives me hope we can bring the Party Together. By the time we get to july it will be a staged thing for the american people, we would have made that decision. Marco rubio can make the difference who the nominee will be. He wants to be on the first ballot but he has committed to hold his delegates and i believe he will give them the cruise. Maria interesting to look at the numbers when it comes to women because this is where donald trump lags and it is really pronounced when you look at women in wisconsin. When his unfavorable remarks have not been strong, you have not seen a strategy targeted at getting more women to support him which continues to take people by surprise but at this point everyone is asking when does the party unite . We heard from lance previous meeting with donald trump, he is running as a republican. He will then support the republican nominee if he is not the one. Scott brown last night on the kelly file looking at the glass half file saying the party will unite, has to unite but that is the message the Republican Party is trying to get together and put out. Maria donald trump had the meeting last night in washington to talk about unification of the party, they were optimistic after the meeting. It was a very good meeting. They are very good people, a terrific meeting. It is a unity meeting, we are leading by a lot, have far and away the most delegates, millions of votes more than anybody else. It worked out and the team came over and we had a good meeting and talked about the process, the convention, unity, working together and making sure when we go to cleveland we are working in the same direction and part of that is making sure we have open channels of communication. Maria what and election cycle this has been. I will put my investor hat on. You try to think about the downside, what can go wrong . Wisconsin is done, ted cruz is going to win it. How much money has been spent on trump in wisconsin . If he comes in, say he does not get absolutely crushed, he shows a respectable number despite all the money spent against him, that is the real story coming out, that will be the real story coming out because if he can come in with decent numbers, that amount, that is the story. You can see with the meeting happening, trump has reached out to Mitch Mcconnell and paul ryan. We can be our own worst enemy in putting things out there and giving a platform to hillary. The abortion question gave a platform to hillary. Doesnt trump have a strong argument if he comes out okay in wisconsin, look how much money was spent against him, record amounts, still able to show decent numbers, isnt that the story . That is the story and i think he will get a woman gangplank together. He is trying to get his way through from the mistakes he has made because we are not monolithic. It is not just the abortion issue and our body. Jobs impact as, healthcare, education. It will be a better ground game but right now maria wisconsins 42 delegates, trump 736, ted cruz 463. You are not looking at a, quote, race here. Wisconsin is huge, new york is huge but trump is in control. Yesterday was it a turning point for him to try to unite and think about if we dont do something quick and bring the Party Together we are going to lose it because he has had so much momentum but there has been a little bit of a powershift, things are changing, did he realize we need to bring the Party Together a lot quicker or he could risk losing . The establishment needs to come together but they are supporting ted cruz but with donald trump meeting with the head of the rnc i have hope. Maria we want your take on the story, Hillary Clinton getting fired up on the press line after being asked about her political donations and constant attacks from Bernie Sanders. I get money from people who work for foxbusiness. I am so sick of the Sanders Campaign lying about me. Maria she showed some frustration pointing at that womans face about the Bernie Sanders comments and showed it got under her skin. Sanders is getting under her skin, she has a lot of distractions and sanders is giving her a run for her money but at the end of the day even with superdelegates hillary will be the democratic nominee and the republicans doing what they are doing are actually laying a Great Foundation for her. Maria the truth is it is all about this investigation. We do not see Hillary Clinton targeting Bernie Sanders, we see her targeting donald trump. But donald trump is holding back from his attacks on Hillary Clinton saying he has his arsenal of attacks when it comes time for the general when he is the nominee but why does he not start now . He needs the independents, the undecided voters. Hillary has a lot of independents. It wont do anything for him to attack a woman right now. He needs to talk about what policies, these soundbites wont work anymore. What are you going to do to create a better america . Once you see the convention happen from election day, you will see them reach out against her. Maria hillary will be about detail, donald trump wont be about detail. That will be a problem for him. Thank you. Dont miss complete coverage of the wisconsin primary, leading up to the voting tuesday night, full coverage of the results tuesday night beginning at 8 00 pm eastern, join us live on the foxbusiness network. A round of gunfire ending the life of a decorated marine and father of two, we have the horrible details coming up. Chinese company dropping its bid for Starwood Hotels putting marriotts takeover back on track, we will breakdown what that means, stay with us. Heres the plan. Youre a Financial Company that cares, but your logo is old and a little pointy. So you evolve. You simplify. You havent changed. You still help people live their best lives. More and more of the stories, just dreadful. Tornadoes threatening a large portion of the country from new orleans to chicago, 34 million americans were caught in the path of a severe storm system spawning damaging tornadoes, flash floods, soaking parts of the united states, six inches of rain expected in some areas. Chinas Insurance Group walking away from its bid to buy starwood. After the Investor Group submitted an offer of 14 million for the hotel and resort chain. Marriott is back on track to sweep in and purchase starwood to create the Worlds Largest hotel operator. If this merger is completed the combined company will have 5500 hotels that will operate 1. 1 million rooms. A lot of those discussed in china. Maria interesting they pulled out. 90 billion of foreign takeovers by Chinese Companies this year, this is the top story in the journal, Chinese Company and this group pulling out from acquiring starwood. The chinese moving into buying assets wont stop as a result of this. The issue here the defense was trying to go against the ability to raise the capital necessary. If you know the way Chinese Business works they did not like the intrusion into trying to see what was happening behind the scenes, a number of partners involved in the deal and culturally they decided we wont get into this bidding war, to rip apart our own internal finances. Maria there was a lot of political opposition in washington about a Chinese Company acquiring a us hotel company. We know president obama same group that bought the waldorf. Maria the rooms are bugged, it is true, that was a huge story. Maria you are saying there is more than meets the eye. The advisors made a determination, where is our money coming from . Do we have to disclose what we dont want to disclose . How much with each partner putting up . They made a decision that we are not going to fight about it. Maria they have already cleared the regulatory hurdles. Biggest issue on that side of the deal was related to the customers which was the loyalty programs. Maria i imagine us regulators would rather have a Marriott Starwood company then a starwood Chinese Company. Of course but they are not going to say that. The chinese will not stop buying American Companies as a result of this but it made sense to walk away. Maria Number One Hotel company once this deal closes. Up next craft beer all the rage lately, now at 1500yearold italian monastery are getting in on the beer craze. We have details coming up. The latest big jobs report hitting the wires, bill clinton with shocking revelations why he is celebrating taking 100,000 jobs away from wall street. We are coming back. Maria when you think of the benedictine monks the last thing that comes to mind is beer. Amy kellogg has the story from rome. Reporter it is an incredible story about these monks trying to keep a historic monastery alive. It is also a nice micro business story because when we talk about business in italy and europe it is so overshadowed by the negatives, recession, unemployment issues but a lot of beautiful stuff being produced from sleek sports cars to beautiful clothing, Delicious Food and wine but less wellknown is the story of monks making beer. Brother francis from dallas, texas is the brew monk in chief of the benedictine orders beer newly available in the united states. The tradition dates back to the middle ages, they say even though it is an alcoholic beverage they drink it to get sustenance during lent, proceeds keep the monastery afloat. This group is mostly american, brought it back to life in 2000. It is not just the bottom line to the community. People are afraid of a priest, a monk but more than happy to talk about beer. Reporter it was built in the monastery of saint benedict, the father of western monasticism, between eight daily prayers without having to hire late brewers. We bottle it and taste it just to make sure. Reporter what is next . They are talking about whiskey in the future but they just want to get that beer is good as we can and according to them they are swimming in their orders. And around the world. Maria italian beer. One time in college. Maria go right to college. What did you think about that . You hear so much about problems in the economy in italy. And uplifting story. There are probably some bankers who didnt know it was a potential acquisition. Maria the jobs report at 8 30 eastern, two hours from now, us stocks trading at 2016 highs, we will have jobs and how to allocate money. Later on, one on one with David Hasselhoff talking about the baywatch series reboot and the german pop superstar. Going platinum, the number one spot on the german charts for eight weeks beginning in 1989. eeeeohmumohweh hush my darling. dont fear my darling. the lion sleeps tonight. hush my darling. man snoring dont fear my darling. the lion sleeps tonight. woman snoring take the roar out of snore. Yet another innovation only at a sleep number store. Maria welcome back. Happy friday. April 1st, april fools. Ted cruz with a big lead over donald trump in wisconsin ahead of tuesday night primary. Driving cruz to the top evangelical, very conservative voters and republican women. Young voters helping in the badger state. Hillary clinton hitting campaign. President clinton taking one of the biggest employers, the banks. Theres some5070,000 people working on wall street then there were to the crash. Next to the Health Care Bill, the doddfrank bill. Maria weve got the details coming up. We know they are high cars, but wow, this one on fire, how this car went up in flames in the auto show. Economists are looking for 205,000 for jobs with Unemployment Rate Holding Steady. Sharp decline in japan. It was mostly lower across asia. 3 and a half percent. European markets taking the cue from asia, cac quarante lower. Take a look. Dow industrials pulling back from a gains yesterday. Turning back to campaign trail. Fox news releasing first ever polls, here are some of the highlights in the polls. Ted cruz leading among primary voters. Donald trump behind cruz with 32 and john kasich coming in at 19 . Ted cruz has huge lead among white evangelicals leading donald trump by 20 . Dagen, interesting to see that conservatives and evan gals pushing cruz. Dagen if he can keep the momentum. He needs to do well. The way the delegates are allocated in wisconsin, trump could still pick up enough to give him momentum Going Forward given lead in delegate count. When he loses contest, that hurts his overall message, like im the western, im the god. Maria why is cruz doing so well can evangelical you trump has good showing in evangelicals from prior . Dagen cruz has been campaigning heavily and you get scott walker, Approval Ratings are soso in the state right now but you have that kind of support for cruz. I dont want to disagree with dagen dagen bring it. All the money thats being spent against trump which is record moneys, dollars being spent there. You mentioned scott walker and cruz, if he gets a third of the vote, isnt that the bigger message . Dagen not the bigger message but important for him. But i dont know how these comments from the last week, its been not just one thing, its been a bunch of things, problems for donald trump. It could. It definitely can be the start of it. If the poll is right and gets a third of the vote, i think he says im a winner here. Maria number one issue for voters is jobs right now, National Security back and forth. U. S. Stocks trading high and second day of quarter. Three straightquarters of gains. What a month of march its been, by the way. Investors gearing by marchs report. That may set the tone. 200,000 new jobs with Unemployment Rate likely Holding Steady at 4. 9 . Lets talk about this for a second because you talked about the jobs are largely in services. Is that what you expecting this morning . I still believe that the majority would be professional and Business Services, health care i would expect to be strong. Retail would be interesting because the retail numbers were weaker in february and we are also seeing consumer spending, so we might see a little bit of squeeze in the retail job, i can tell you the market is getting so much more competitive right now specially in the professionallevel jobs. Even if that maria legal, consulting and things like that . I, the still continues to be one of the hottest areas, engineering, pharmaceutical, those are all hot areas and we are seeing pay increases, relocations, packages, signing bonuses. Its start to starting to get competitive. A strong jobs number while good for sentiments in america is going to be bad for the stock market. The stock market bounced back in march after terrible january and february because the fed said we are going going to ease into the market. It was great that they came back after the fed once again threw a little magic in there. Thats what happened with bonds. The bond market despite the fedding continue to have a great quarter. Whether you looked at bonds, total return, continued to show where investors who were told by most professionals get out of bonds, get out of bonds, continue to be a great place antonio vest. Maria yeah. Dagen sandra is making a face. Sandra no, no. At the beginning of the year it was constantly reported, right, the first few trading days of the year it was the worst start of the year hold on. Everybody looked back at history and the stock market showed that in the horrible years where we start off so horribly, we end up positive by like a lot. Are we already off to that . I have absolutely no idea. I will tell you what why i pay zero attention, its important that viewers understand that, when you talk about historical stuff, fivedays of january, whatever the trading is on february 10th, all of that kind of stuff is based on history. We are in a weve never seen. The fundamentals matter. What the banks matter more than anything, everything. Maria they have gone away. You were talking about 2016 in the economy and going into the session. Youre not hearing anymore. Dagen the ten year is 1. 78 . Correct. Dagen seems to suggest theres still a lot of fear. Maria not too hold and not too cold. People that sold bonds in january because they were concerned the highyield market was saying the bond market was saying that the u. S. Economy was going to go into the recession. That was the leading indicater that was starting to impact the stock market in early january, theres been aurally in the asset class because now the fear as maria said, the recession is not right around the corner. But we really dont know. Maria still slow. We are talking about 1 gdp growth. Sort of bouncing a long one, maybe 2 growth and its also in various different geographic pockets. Dagen with the election its so unpredictable. Trump is not a closer and hes going to get you gave me a very nice open for a tease for wall street 8 00 p. M. You want to listen to investor to talk about election having an impact on the market. Maria it has already. Its had an impact on sentiments, but the Central Banks are in control of the markets that that when you look at what happened in march sandra youre leaving out a big component which is oil. Maria sandra, youre right on the money. Oil made a huge comeback. Prices up nearly 14 . Phil flynn from the cme group. Phil probably after todays jobs reports its going to determine whether we are going to go higher or not. Theres absolutely no doubt about it. Sandra made a good point in the year, same thing that happens in the stocks. When you get a big sell wawf oil, theres ramifications, what happened since that, not cutting capital spending, we force opec and not opec countries to come together and not talk about the possibility of restraint and, of course, we saw historic drop in rig counts in the shortest period of time in history, it means that u. S. Energy production is falling and hit the lowest levels since 2014, and so we set that stage for recovery, so what we have seen is that the damage done by the crashing prices in january is actually facilitating a recovery that could last for a very long time. Maria all right, phil, we are going to be watching that, down 2 and a quarter percent this morning. Thank you phil flynn, in chicago. 8 00 a. M. Eastern right here on the Fox Business Network. We are previewing all of the action. We are breaking down all the numbers. He didnt get prosecuted, only she did. Maria i saw that on law and order. Donald will not take coaching just about anybody, even then 10,000 people and he couldnt believe it. Lets just see how it turns out because we have a long way to go, we have a lot of delegates yet to award and we will see who is growing a party. Donald trump is not going to be our nominee. Maria let me move on the policy, governor. We can talk about plan b. If plan a doesnt work out. That was behind the booing of. Many of us can get booed from our hometown. My favorite of all time. Im going to beat up on john kerry. Asked for swiss on his sandwich. Come on. Dagen i like how you make kerry sound hes not. [laughter] maria if you need a stiff drink while filing taxes, youre in luck. Does this cost people more honest when theyre drunk or exaggerate more. Yeah, i think i get some honest folks. I think i get a lot of life stories for sure. Cheryl one of the drinks customers can have is a 1forgino. Maria hey, what are you drinking this morning . He looks incredible, very lean, in shape, i cannot wait f thats what 64 looks like, i cant wait to get that number. Youre not going to catch me taking off my shirt any time soon. He had to do it next to dwayne the rock johnson. When i finally agreed to do the movie, i dont know. Been there, done that. I cant stand next i cant look at the shape they are in. Went to the gym and hit it hard. How did you stay in shape for baywatch. Pushups all of the time. As great as you are, you cannot compete with the rock. Maria wow. Never a point in his life where he was never not in shape and always kind of worked out. He doesnt drink. Dagen not anymore, he struggled for Substance Abuse for a long time. This is great genes too because he still looks amazing. Micheal he addresses that on new show. Maria does he workout every day, whats the secret . Micheal i think the secret is working out every day. Maria no alcohol. Micheal there you go. Dagen being tanned, sprayed tanned every day. Maria he had an enormous amount of success with music career overseas, looking for freedom hit the top of the charts in europe. Switzerland, austria and singles fell his way. Thats interesting. Micheal the thing i loved about baywatch it was on nbc for one year, they had no idea what to do with it. He bought it for a dollar. He doesnt take himself very seriously and has very serious work ethic. Everything he does tv and movies. Dagen its basically a play. Micheal i think thats what we are waiting to find out. Theres not a lot on it right now. [laughter] micheal thats the key to success. Its baywatch. As long as they all look gorgeous and we will get ratings, do you believe that . Micheal im going to lay down the line. Sex sells overseas very well. Had to bring it back. Maria all right, michael, we will look forward to that. Before that, sandra smith with etf report. Sandra how do i make that transition . I will try. We are talking about s p sbh. This is up 3. 2 for the week. Thats almost tripled the return on benchmark s p 500 this week. Jobs day. Brand new Fox Business Network polls are out this morning. Ted cruz with a big lead over donald trump in wisconsin. Driving cruz to the top evangelicals, conservative voters and republican women. He wins donald trump. Theres no doubt that donald trump is the celebrity. Maria trump called the meeting productive last night. We met and they have very good people, a terrific meeting, i think. Its really a unity meeting. They wanted to dismiss meeting and i like discussing unity too. Maria Hillary Clinton is trailing Bernie Sanders going into wisconsin. No surprise here. Young voters helping in the badger state. Agents are reportedly have to take a polygraph test to prevent any leaks. In just over an hour we will get the march jobs report. Economist are looking 205,000 new jobs added to the economy last month with Unemployment Rate Holding Steady at 4. 9 . Turning to markets this morning. In asia overnight, nikkei average the sharp loser. Business sentiments survey weighed on stocks in japan. European markets taking a cue from asia and trading down this morning. Things have worsen, dax index better than 2 . 205 points lower. Cac quarante less down 2 . Futures indicating a lower opening on wall street as well. Here to break it down with me all morning this morning fasm business sandra smith, gary komensky and jack otter, good to see everybody. Thank you so much for joining us. Jack, looking forward whats on the cover this morning. Son of late supreme justice scrallia is also the met lawyer. A lot to talk about there. Another fox business exclusive. First, we start for campaign trail. Last night release of the polls. Blake berman with the highlights of those polls. Blake, good morning to you. Blake hi, maria. Shows cruz in double digits here in the badger state. According to numbers among likely Republican Voters on tuesday, cruz hits 42 mark. That puts him 10 clear of donald trump, 32 and john kasich lagging behind at 19. Cruz has been here in wisconsin early and often and our polls show that he does very well. He does best among white evangelical voters, those who describe very conservative and also does very well here with women in wisconsin. Cruz was out yesterday in california, he will be back later this evening and lodged a new line of attack against donald trump. Donald is is pathological, donald cannot discuss the issues of the substance, you know, donald prefers to communicate co140 characters or less. Blake on the democratic side, Bernie Sanders could pick up another state in the midwest, he leads Hillary Clinton by 5 points, 4843 and does very well among younger voters. One thing to keep in mind, maria, though on both sides, wisconsin is an open primary, meaning, there could be some crossover and independents will have their say on tuesday. Not only are they undecided but will be voting for candidate on the democratic side or republican side. Maria wow, thats wide open, blake. Thank you so much, blake berman in wisconsin. Joining me former arkansas governor and president ial candidate mike huckabee, good to see you, thank you so much for joining us. My pleasure, maria. Maria evangelicals, very conservative voters clearly going for ted cruz in wisconsin, what do you think is most important voters there . Well, its apparent that one thing this wins election if you spend time and connecting with voters and staying away from controversy and ted cruz has been pretty much able to do that in wisconsin. Its very clear that he has been able to rally the establishment around him, whether its scott walker, conservative talk radio hosts who have rallied around him. Hes vacuumed up a lot of key support. Maria, im going to make big news today. There are four of us who had suspended our campaigns, and we use the term suspend and end. As of today we are still back in the ballot. Theres too much ranker, and we will go in to make sure that it goes to the convention and we have specifically chosen this day april 1st for me to make this announcement. Maria is this an april fools joke. I had you going. I had you at least thinking. [laughter] maria youre trying to trick me on april fools day. What you just said is not true . Youre not back in . No. Maria little joker. Im swimming in cleaner waters these days. I only want to capture the expression on your face for the world to see because i know that there was like youve got to be kidding, yes, i was. Maria four of us back in. Im thinking what. I wanted to smile on april fools day. You mention it had endorsement from scott walker. Theres University Law school poll that asked about walkers job performance, 53 did not approve of walker, 42. 3 did approve. I ask you how important or impactful that endorsement is. Keep in mind that poll was of all voters. The democrats, of course, dont like walker and theres a few republicans that dont like you even if youre a republican. That was not a poll specifically of the Republican Voters, therefore, it really would show that 43 of the overall population i would say a Strong Majority of true republicans in wisconsin, specially primary voting republicans are very much in favor of scott walker. You know, governor my read here is that everything that has been thrown at trump in wisconsin, if he can come out with the third of the voters behind him, thats a victory, amia crazy or do you read that the same way . Well, i think so. Wisconsin is an interesting state where the republicans are really republicans and the democrats are really democrats. This isnt a purple state. People think of it that way. The blue is blue and the red is red. This is not an ambiguous state. For ted cruz to be winning among conservative these are staunched conservatives. He has spent the money there and the organization there. Look, it was do or die for cruz. He lost wisconsina more tale wound. Its not a more tale wound for donald trump. He was never expected to do swell like he would in new york and california. If trump doesnt win new york, then he has trouble. But wisconsin is not a do or die for him. Sandra governor huckabee, its sandra smith here. While we talk about trump and kasich part of the conversation. Not the fact that he eats pizza with the foork. 19 of the vote in wisconsin and i think we are about to hear a pretty big call on kasich as well. What do you think the conversation is behind closed doors. We know donald trump met with rnc. Whats the conversation the gop is having about kasich right now and the involvement in the race . Well, he has every right to be in the race. Its incredibly inappropriate for people to try to put pressure on a candidate to get out. Theyre not the ones oh have got him in, he has every right to run and every right to stay in the race and this idea of well, he needs to get out, i heard it about me, i get the whole idea but this is an election, its not a selection. They will sort it out. Its an incredibly not just wrong but insulting to a person who has given a year or more of his life to an effort for people who never have been really supportive of him to, you know, you get to get out. Its john kasichs decision to make. He stays as long as he wants to stay for his sake and voters and supporters who are still supporting him. Maria is he hurting cruz . A lot of people feel that certainly the antitrump people are feeling with him in the race hes hurting ted cruz from gaining more delegates. Well, you know, other people would say is cruz hurting kasich. Maria thats true. Doesnt have a good a path to the general election as maybe a john kasich. Sandra great point. Kasich polls so much higher than cruz. Ronald reagan was behind by 15 points in march of 1980 and went onto win in a landslide. I keep hearing, well, this guy does better against hillary. Forget all of that. It means nothing. This election has not been set yet and the issues will be reformulated three or four times before we get to november. Maria governor, you think anything can happen at the convention . It absolutely can. Here is whats going to happen, we dont know. Sandra governor, what is your wildest forecast of what happens in the convention, whats your outthere theory that could come out of that . Well, i still think theres a real possibility that donald trump will get the delegates necessary to win prior to the convention and that saves what could be a train wreck, because if we get to the convention and you have two candidates, cruz and trump who have the most and trump is by far in the lead, and then somehow he is not going to get the nomination and is denied, youll see an uprising, not much on the convention floor, these are the loyal, the faithful and true, the people who have torn their shirts to help donald trump, there will be an uprising and it will not be pretty. And i dont mean violent. Forget it, i wont vote at all or i will go vote for a third party or hillary. Its not the way that the party wants to shape this election. Maria right, sure. Good to speak with you as always. Thank you. And happy april fools day. [laughter] maria by the way, we have jack otter in the studio and we want to find out whats on the cover of baren magazine. Lets roll it out. We dont usually do a cover like this. I said, new york city lets not do it, lets roll out the big one, john kasich on the cover. He is the best for the markets for many, many reasons. We have been over the couple. Only one that he beats hillary head to head. I will say that both trump and cruz and hillary and all of them are very well known to voters. Ronald reagan coming out of the blue. Kasich and bernie still somewhat unknown. You wont see as many minds changing on cruz, trump and hillary. Theyre not going to change their mind. Maria a guy who has balanced the budget, lower we were colleagues, we overland. Here is the question, why is the cover now . This should have been five months ago. If one goal was to get kasich elected, yes. The Editorial Board felt that kasich was the best candidate for the Capital Markets and the economy, you should have done this five months ago. Thats a fair point. We are covering the news. We are down to three. You look at these three and we think kasich is the best specially because one thing that hasnt been mentioned is deficit. Under trumps plan the deficit explodes 10 trillion over ten years. Hillary will be far better for the deficit than trump. Cruz only goes up by 768 billion but kasich reduce it is deficit. Maria wow. Jack otter from barrons with us this morning your take on sanders out doing clinton in wisconsin right now. You mentioned the age issue obviously doing about flexible well with young people remember we talked about negative Hillary Clinton negatives are extreme high likeable whether you agree with him or not the brooklyn accent comes cross comploelt believing everything he says i think appeals to a lot of people. I love brooklyn with him there but policies in terms of those of Economic Policy i think from the gut thing just like trump jack points out when you hear Bernie Sanders go oft wall street, and you work on wall street wall street like you laugh chuckle, you kind of see that he is trying to do it for how dangerous it is . When you listen to bill clinton last night, sit there, and and laugh. Do we have that sound bite. He actually you laughs he says, 50 to 70,000 jobs have been lost on wall street as a result of doddfrank, trying to jump on sanders kind of mentality there it doesnt work for the clintons, it want work for clintons bill is saying that meanwhile, hill on wall street trying to raise money this afternoon probably. Sound byte we hear bill clinton this week, yesterday. Yeah. There are somewhere between 50 and 70,000 fewer people working on wall street today than there were before the crash, i think next to Health Care Bill, was most important bill to sign dodds frank. That is exactly why geogood news, 77 fewer that is why that is why sanders is likable, because he you dont see that type of you dont see disconnect is so evidence, clintons. Bernie has best interests of the country at heart. What . What . I disagree with policy. No, no, no, not a distinction between the person the guys motivation, and the policies he is i dont agree. Understand economy. So transparent you might not agree with what he wants to do certainly i dont but he is very transparent whereas with clintons you see what bill was doing that is not transparent you cant go to ask wall street to give you money. How can you believe he has best interests of the country at heart when preaching about socialism history shows. He thinks he does. This is the way he sees the world. Right. You may not agree, certainly, we dont, but you know exactly what you are getting there. Lets come to at least one agree on one thing here Hillary Clinton is not worried about wisconsin, and the momentum that Bernie Sanders. She is a new yorker. She is in new york moved on knows that she is in a bit of trouble in state of new york. So does it hurt her Bernie Sanders will take wisconsin does it matter for clinton. Well it always matters, but as far as Hillary Clinton is concerned this is not this is not going to be a major bump in the road. Hillary clinton does not win new york it is a major major that is wisconsin doesnt matter i think it is that new york is so crucially her socalled adoptive home state in new york we dont think of hillary living here but she is saying she he is she will lose new york that is a real blow. All right. We will watch that certainly comments of bill clinton worth noting for sure fbi with justice department, prosecutors reportedly soon conduct interviews with Hillary Clinton and key aides to determine whether criminal charges this be filed gone former secretary of state as Time Magazine reports, this week, that a hillary fbi investigators could be subject to polygraph tests to prevent leaks will fbi probably hillarys chances to win nomination Hillary Clinton gang fired up on press line yesterday automotive being asked about her political donations and constant attacks from rival Bernie Sanders watch this. Im not sure i am so sick of lies. Maria frustration there with Bernie Sanders comments about her pointing at that woman, you can see that even though you are right about the Wisconsin Press not priority for her right now she is in new york. It is interesting, because we have fien that fire from her when she debates Bernie Sanders something is finally coming to a Tipping Point with her that was very ev dent in that clip there clearly rubs the wrong way. I dont think that clinton bill clinton made those comments, about job losses doddfrank wall street off the curfew i think it was very premeditated trying to say we are we are just like sanders has been able to capitalize on this antiwall Street Movement i think clintons well aware. That is what Bernie Sanders hole has been push to the left. That is not he opened up in harlem last night he said i am up here, i am not down on wall street they didnt oversiginvite me. I am from brooklyn. Hey a second. I love brooklyn. In fact, that is Bernie Sanders from brooklyn. I know. That is all i am going to say. What is your take. Bernie sanders. Danger of the primary system frankly look at republicans forced right democrats forced left net good for this country they have to go to washington negotiate with other side after sometime after november, and they have already boxed themselves into a corner i dont like it at all not saying blow up u. S. System but i am saying we have to be aware that this bad thing happened. Financial system, the insurance giant challenged their two big to fail status in federal court they won, a designation created can when the dodds frank act 2010 law was signed, now other Companies Including ge capital are following suit, the men who crafted challenge the son of the Late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, my plesh to welcome to the proom gibson dunne partner attorney for metly jean scalia nice to have you good morning. Good morning pleasure to be here. First my could condolences father a great man we are going to talk about that had a legacy my condolences thank you for joining us this morning, let me ask you about this case, because this case, is so important, not just for metlife, but for the entire industry. First off, tell me the argument that you crafted to make the case, that in fact, designated metlife too big to fail systemically important was wrong . Well, we made several different arguments but the heart of the case was that under any Regulatory Framework no matter how powerful or important an agency, there are obligations on part of the agency to give carefully attention to the evidence that is before it to give a fair hearing, to the arguments that are made, and also, a fair process, the thrust of our case they had riled too much on its speculation, that it had not paid sufficient attention to the evidence that metlife put in showing in fact it was not a systemic threat and also the government hadnt given as you fair access to some of the information that was considering, and this was not a challenge to the doddfrank act argued it more as vindication of the procedures, and their substantive rules that congress had put in there which we argued financial staikt oversight counsel or agency had not followed. I agree with you, i think, you know, this law has been dieted ev debating since put in law completely dictated, Balance Sheets you look at fact ge had to sell all ge capital, because they were also designated too big to fail, crashtize implications when government says you are asset manager too big to fail people say why would asset manager be systemically important how does that create chaos in the economy same with Insurance Company when you are deemed too big to fail systemically important why that is an issue tell us what comes with th designation i. I dealt with Labor Department securities and Exchange Communication federal Communications Commission i had no idea getting involved in this case for metlife, how extremely intrusive regulation by Federal Reserve board is particularly when you are being regulated as big bank it is another world in terms of of the burdens so once it was designated neither life had nearly a dozen federal Bank Examiners on its premises a full time basis examining books and records, providing, their views about that changes ought to be made seeking is to pete with Senior Executives qui quite frequently new obligations imposed clig potentially most important that metlife was going to be subject to closincreased cal rus most competitors in Insurance Business would not be subject to requirements for metlife, to receive a serene level of income it was going do have to hold much more capital than competitors that was going to be bad for Share Holders of metlife customers as well a really, onerous burden to be designated one remarkable thing about the government case was it actually argued in court, that there had been no effect on metlife by being designated, that was plainly untrue, example for example what happened with ge. Plainly untrue, you see ge capital, being sold, because of it i see, aig hank greenberg, right, petitioning back suing government, there was so many cases, and so much purchaseback from the private sector, because of the implications of that designation give us time line now what happens next, this is this court ruling, is a big victory for metlife, big for your work, obviously, what is the timeline how do we follow this in terms of the next catalyst. Well, it is already been reported that the Federal Reserve now has seized regulatory oversfooit of metlife my hope is that the end of this proceeding, that metlife will continue to be regulated as it has been so long, by very thorough state regulatory system and certain federal agencies forrest activities like securities and Exchange Commission one thing government will be considering whether to appeal they have 60 days, and you know i have been there, maria i have done a government civil lawyer my hinch is that government lawyers are sitting down and talking through some of the mistakes that were made in this proceeding explaining, that although they may be very upset about the loss, that they are interested in appealing, that they did make what i would call rookie mistakes how then handled this proceeding, and if they choose to appeal which objective their right there is some risk that the Appellate Court actually would rule for metlife on even additional grounds, we won on three of 10 we raised we could win on more, of course, the court of appeals decision would be an even more important binding court precedence, i think those are kinds of things they are weighing now. I cant emphasize how important this case really is enough, because it is not just about metlife but this is an opportunity, for the rest of the Financial Services industry to know that it is okay to push back, you pointed out if i can very important go ahead. Well a comment briefly on that, when this case was filed there was a myth out there that the agency had pretty much unfettered discretion to do what it wander ting to do th you cant fight city hall this is important to metlife but i this can it is really important for corporations generally frankly individuals generally as a reminder that the government is also subject to rule of law. Yeah, absolutely, let me switch gears i want to steady about your father his legacy, obviously, you know, such a great man, icon. Arguably the most important voice on the most important institution. On the bench talk to us about his legislatioacy this morning. You know, for me it is so broad it is hard to capture and i always reminded people that he had great legacy as a jurist but, was the father of nine, and you know dozens of grandchildren as well, and our wonderful husband to our wonderful mother, his legacy as a jurist, he was somebody who was very thoughtful about the role of the courts in our country. Who focused on that, at a time i think a lot of people were also concerned about what some called imperial judiciary he had a way with words was wonderful in targarticulateing w how high courts should function i think a view that will be with us a long time. Absolutely he set the tony he did which is why this contested sayings around replacing him has really spiked, we are looking at pictures of the great Justice Scalia right now, what is your take on this battle over replacing him with scotus nominee merit garland i remember an interview i saw your father give a couple years ago he said if you ever replace me on the court i dont think i have to tell you that k i would want to be replaced with is one will not undo everything i put in place, who have similar thoughts on things, as i do. Would you say er innit garland is that person . You know, maria, when my father died i thought about this, decided that Supreme Court justices dont expect kids out there talking about Supreme Court nominees, i decided best that i continue to honor that now. As my fathers today so this is obviously very important debate one that i concluded at the time of his death best that i sit out. Maria i understand, you dont want to go there but your father had such an incredible legacy, and such incredible impact on the country, it is just it is just a real honor to have known him and to talk with you about it. You are also making a real impact certainly with this Financial Services remove and the work that you put into the metlife court ruling here, what is next in terms of broad industry changes . Do you think with the president ial elections we will see a rethinking of financial landscape when it comes to regulation in. I think it is natural for a new administration to take a closer look. Regulatory policy tends to function like a pendulum certainly there has been a move towards very aggressive oversight i think about designations as you have been pointing out maria we have seen series adverse effects for Important Companies but i think, the future here like so many other things, really hangs in the balance of the election. And i think whether we have republican or democrat is going to be biggest determinant of where we go next. Maria for sure, good to talk with you thanks so much for joining us this morning. Thank you so much. Congratulations to you the attorney at Metlife Eugene fiscal l. A. Please join us again i am Maria Bartiromo happy friday 2k8 on east coast breaking news this morning, we are waiting the release of the march jobs report added about 30 minutes economists expecting 205,000 jobs to have been add to the economy last month Unemployment Rate Holding Steady 4. 9 futures indicating lower opening for stock prices ahead of highly anticipated report we are at lows of the morning decline of 60 points on Dow Jones Industrial average. The first ever fox business polls are out, they show ted cruz, with a big lead over donald trump in wisconsin. Driving cruz to the top evangelicals very conservative voters and republican women, donald Trump Holding a surprise meeting with rnc chairman Reince Priebus last night after backing out of the pledge to support the eventually nominee, trump called meeting adequaquote productive. To polls blake burman in milwaukee highlights of the fox busiblake. Hi maria good morning to you happy friday from wisconsin our fox business poll released yesterday, about the second pol, in as many days here in wisconsin, showing that ted cruz has a doubledigit lead as we head into tuesday in the badger state our fbirchn poll shows 42 likely primarily voters to come tuesday night at least as of this moment, currently support cruz, puts him 10 points ahead of donald trump, at 32. John kasich lagging behind, at 19. Cruz has been here early and often, in wisconsin, he will return here later tonight, our polls show that he does very well, here, with white evangelical voters those consider themselves very conservative, and also does very well with women. Yesterday, cruz was out on the west coast he was in california, did a couple radio interviews there late last night, and he lobbed a new attack toward donald trump. Donald is is pathological, donald cannot discuss the issues of the substance prefers to can being 140 characters or less. Over on democratic side our poll shows Bernie Sanders could potentially pick up another state in big time country that poll shows sanders with 48 support, that puts him five clear out of Hillary Clinton at 43 one thing to keep in mind on both sides this is an open primary. So that means, that this could be crossover here come tuesday night also independents have their say, many we have talked to say they are simply undecided at this point, and some many we talked with yesterday, even told us, not only dont they know who they are going to vote for maria they also dont know at this point whether they are going democrat or republican lots of options left on table. Quite a range blake, thank you so much blake burman we will be watching that obviously, back to business we go less than 30 minutes away from Labor Department jobs report for the month of march, the economy is expected to have added 205,000 new jobs last month, to the economy Unemployment Rate expected to hold steady at 8year low, 4. 9 , todays reading could have impact on Federal Reserve decision to raise Interest Rates this year joining me right now he fox business exclusive, is the president of the cleveland Federal Reserve Loretta Mester good to see you thanks for. Thanks for having me. Really happy to see you particularly at a time clooevenlgd seems outpacing the rest of the country when it comes to jobs, and i know that was a difficult feat given the manufacturing, strength or sort of exposure in cleveland, mining, manufacturing. Right. Talk to us the economy so we have been transitioning for quite a while from a manufacturing hard manufacturing based economy into one more cleveland, you know, our district as well as a bit of a longer reason trend not a cycle, this Great Recession as they call it, of course, took toll on cleveland lower oil prices, of course, hurt sectors, but you know, Unemployment Rate is lower now, in our district than it was during the last cycle, so you know there is really been coming back the compromise i. What would you attribute that to . Other than obviously your efforts to transition, because that is where the jobs are right now, services. Well, service, if you look at business, and professional services, have been one of the shares of jobs, over both last year and also during the recovery, that has been a big share of the thing, health and education has been another big share. Retail and leisure activities so you are right the Service Sectors that have shown biggest share of the employment growth, i mean i think they allocable come back very well i dont want to under play sort of underestimate struggles people have had there are people that were very, very hurt by the recession, still people struggling to get their jobs back, a lot of that is longer turmoil issues the country is going do have to deal with Workforce Development issues that i think we need you to know really are seriously tackle in the country back to Monetary Policy can do much about at this point. The global story have a real impact on the domestic story. Right. In america what we heard janet yellen basically talked about gradualism in terms of raising Interest Rates talk to us about that. So i think, my own view as that the economy with remarkable thing about economy how resilient it has been in the face of you know the financial volatility that we saw last year, in the end of last year beginning of this year, you know the global weakness global aabroad weakness in the last quarter for our own growth, you know all these things have been rising dollar low oil prices helped consumer does hurt oil and mining. About cleveland. Right so these things that despite all these drags they are Downside Risks for theout, the economy has been very resilient through it so to me that makes me think that you know, it is appropriate that we are on this fragile normalization path gradual watch word you are exactly right, and i think that there is makes a lot of sense to be gradual, because that will prevent us from having to be less gradual later on if we delay too long. When you look back at the last i know lets call it six months, 8 months i dont want to be short term i really do want to look long term just in last 6 months 8 months i feel there has been a sentiment change within fed look at the expectations from Federal Reserve in terms of four outright increases in 1916 we heard from janet yellen earlier this week no, no, no, no, no, talking about two at best. You got to remember what is any point in time we are basically saying where do we think Monetary Policy is going to go Monetary Policy has to be forwardlooking we respond to data, my own forecast for the path of Interest Rates right was revised down a little bit is between december and last time fomc gave out to march because we got new evidence on the economy, right so you want policy responsive. We got a slightly Slower Growth right the Fourth Quarter was lower than we expected it to be so you want policy the policy to respond but remember that what we call summer of Economic Projections fomc projections is not a commitment not a promise it is basically, this is what policy makers are anticipating at this upon the in time given the evidence we have. So you know, as date comes in as we reassess things that policy might change but key thing though it is still a gradual upwardly path to policy, so to my mind i didnt see it a big sea change i thought this is exactly the way you want policy to be reacting to data i think it is important that the public see what those our views are i think very important. You have been much more transparent so people ins, the thinking behind decisions you are a Voting Member of the fomc at this point given the data that you have, would you be poised to vote for would more rate hicks this year. I cant answer that question yet we dont have a meeting until april i want to see all data coming in, i do think my best guess at this point is that the economy will evolve in a way will entail bringing Interest Rates up glau gradually when, how many i cant tell you i tell you anticipate economic developments will entail sort of a continue on that gradual path this year. What is your expectation on wages, we see this Movement Across the country to 15 dollar an hour minimum wage we see some tightness in some areas of the economy, what are you seeing when it comes to wages. So we actually talked to a lot of business contacts about this very question, because as you know, you havent seen acceleration we have heard more and more from businesses they are finding it hard the find workers if you are finding it hard to find workers why dont you raise the wages, we are getting now, evidence that that is happening, so some of our businesses are telling us even for jobs that are typically the lower paying jobs trail or bank tellers they had to raise wages to attracting works with skills they need i think it is starting to happen, i expect that wages will begin to accelerate, as we continue to have the solid improvement in labor markets. How much of a factor is it that we have in election this year a lot of people bring up the idea that the Federal Reserve is never going to be political they are not getting involved in any of this weve got so much talk debate around this election you got election in november does that preclude any moves in Interest Rates say in september. Absolutely not. I can tell you i have been at fomc meetings a long time before i became president i can tell you when you hear what is going on in the room you are there, the Political Part doesnt come up at all really about setting policy that is the best policy to meet the feds goal, of course, Congress Gave us, at the appropriate time on appropriate data, and i can tell you that those Political Considerations are not part of the discussion. Going into this summers big convention, Republican Convention in July Cleveland does that create economic excitement vibrancy something you would look in terms of what it may bring to cleveland. Certainly, the Greater Cleveland paper board member there like chamber of commerce, for our area, you know they are all gearing up for it we want to put best food forward we are prod to show off the city we know that we are bringing a lot of new people to the city have not been to cleveland before it certain something that is lent from excitement to the city, and, you know, we are looking forward to being able to showcase our city. Not really, sort of moving if needle in terms of economic there is a bunch looked at past things, big events like olympics all these things that come to play, so, i mean we see construction picking up in cleveland a lot was going on before rnc. By the way, final question miss mester jobs number in 20 minutes or so how would you characterize the jobs picture at this point is it very much sort of the same as what weve been seeing on average, do you think. You are going to see numbers details reported you and viewers, but we will put it in context we have had solid performance in the labor market over the past 3 years, so, you know looking forward to seeing the report, and putting in context weve seen very good performance in the labor market. What is most important indicator you look at. Gosh i say i look at mosaic of indicators. Not one. I like to look at payroll growth we look at a Inflation Numbers inflation expectations, there is a lot of indicators out there, and it is the hard part is putting them together and context and understanding what they are telling you about the economy what is the signal what is the noise. Maria welcome back big news in 10 minutes awaiting release of march jobs reports analysts expecting 205,000 jobs, to be add to the economy, the month of march with Unemployment Rate Holding Steady at 4. 9 joining the conversation right now bgc partner senior restaurant steve correspondees heritage distinguished fellow steve moore thanks for joining us let me kick off with you you have been sort cautious on this compromise i the markets what ri expecting in 10 minutes. Well, you know what i remain cautious i thie are weieding jobs yes is that good news yes, but are we really growing . No. The breaks are on economy largely because of washington, d. C. , by the way, i think because of taxes and regulation, so i expect we will have a good number, but not a great number. Maria a good number not great number, staph moore we just heard from president of the cleveland Federal Reserve. I heard. She just said doesnt matter that there is an election in november, the fed is going to raise rates as the data comes out, and shows us what is happening with the compromise i she wouldnt commit to two Interest Rate hibernation, but certainly feels things are gradually getting better. Great interview i listened to it, and everything she said i thought was absolutely on the mark but i dont actually believe when she says fed doesnt take election into effect has been the case for you know last six or seven election about cycles i look at jobs pictures talking about month after month the jobs picture actually has been pretty good, right, maria over the last you know 6 months to a year. The problem has been you look at growth northbounumbers real y last quarter 1 , estimates for this quarter, about 1 , one to one and a half it seems to me the economy might be slipping into a slightly lower gear right now, and i am concerned, only kind of positive actually, on the economy, has been pretty steady, and not strong, but sturdy job growth. What we heard from Federal Reserve, this week, when ellen talked being about greater gradualism we still have economy sort of stalled out. Yeah, you know i think that this is a big job report, because we need to look at, you know, not only the top line number but we want to look at the Labor Participation rate are we seeing more people enter back into the workforce the fed is going to be keyed into that, wages as well, which i think we will see movement in wages the market is getting tighter now todays report will see hourly wages but, overall, wages seem right direction. Wages going to be key one thing to look at amount of jobs created, which is zl going up until we get an idea of the tightening labor worked we need to see hourly wages go up be away ides of march, the statistics that apparently bond is watching this morning, is that five in the last six march jobs reports the actual report first report was just always is has missed expectations. And came in below wall street was expecting, so this historically speaking march we dont really get a good jobs number. 1997 march has been a weak month so we see a lousy number might get revised later or not be important Supreme Court good to see you buddy, let me ask you, was march all about stock market about a short squeeze or did you see real natural long buying here what does it say for what is next month . Right gary listen i am glad you asked that because i really believe that march madness was written about be able is risk assets rallying, crude oil stocks everything, i personally in terms of what our client flow was materializing completely about short colloquys not natural buying not real buying it was short getting actually caught i think market hedge funds far, far too aggressive on the short side in february burned squeezed very badly, from midfebruary, all the way into march my opinion while an incredible rally off lows of february i dont think natural lying i think a short squeeze. You are saying everybody got a away too negative early in the year hedge if i understand included all of a sudden market start rallying have to say i have could cover negative positions that i have start applying . That what is happened in march. I dont think so much about really significantly changed fundamentals rather i think about marketing participation, and market positioning. Yeah. I saw the same so that is why. Have it is really important ge gary glad you asked it the personal change in the economy, it doesnt look like that is what we are seeing. Concern the market had january same concerns we have april 1st. Maria we will know that number less thanfy minutes stay with us everybody we are going to navigating numbers out in 4 1 2 minutes the march jobs report, next. Analyst expecting 205,000 jobs added to the economy in the last month. The Unemployment Rate steady at 4. 9 . Joni courtney is with us from monster, where are the jobs . Definitely in the professional and Business Service sector, i think well see some growth as well in the Health Care Sector and im hopeful that well see some movement in manufacturing, not expecting a big number, but hopefully a positive number and construction as well. Might be a little soft in the retail area, but overall im expecting a decent report this morning. Maria we know, jack otter, the manufacturing has been where the weakness is, heard it from the cleveland Federal Reserve. I think that mining and manufacturing lost 175,000 jobs over the last couple of years as commodities have fallen, so, clearly its all about services and technology. Im looking at participation, more participation and, please, some wage growth. Everybody wants inflation and wage growth is where you get inflation. Maria wage growth. Steve cortez mentioned were where we were january 1st, lets see if good news is good news or especially where the bond market is looking at. Sandra anecdotally, people are looking for the job participation level is going up. We want to know that people are actively looking for work even if theyre out of a job. Maria for a long time shall the Participation Rate was at a 30year low. I mean over 30year low. Maria more than 30 years, meaning that people were not participating in the growth. Peter barnes has the number. 215,000 new nonfarm payroll jobs last month, maria, 215,000 new nonfarm payrolls added by the economy in march. About as expected. The Unemployment Rate ticking up to 5 from 4. 9 as more people entered the work force, about 400,000 more, but not all of them found jobs. Hourly wages rising nicely, up 0. 3 in march 25. 43 an hour, up 2. 3 year over year and thanks to the people who entered the work force, the Labor Participation rose to 63 , the First Time Since march of 2014. The highest in two years. Nonfarm payroll revisions were negligible. Looking at sectors, manufacturing shed 29,000 jobs, down 29,000. The biggest monthly loss since december 09. Durable goods down 24,000, mining and logging, oil production, down 12,000. Sectors adding jobs, education and Health Services up 51,000, retail up 48,000, leisure and hospitality up. And construction up nicely 37,000. Professional and Business Services up 33,000, government up 20,000 new jobs, mostly in local government. Maria. Maria all right, peter, great stuff there. Peter barnes with the breaking news and i want to get everybodys reaction here. 215,000 jobs created in the month of march, steve moore, thats better than expected. Although the Unemployment Rate goes up to 5 , Participation Rate goes up and interesting to see where the job growth was, health care, education, services, government. Mining, once again we see declines in mining. Whats your take . Decent number for sure. This shows a slow, but steady recovery and this is further signs of that. I want to make one general observation what is going on kind of on a macro level with this economy and this report confirms this. Where are we losing jobs . Were losing them in mining and commodities as the oil prices have come down and i predicted this on your show for many, many months, that if the oil prices come down, that actually is going to lead to more job growth in other Industries Like restaurants, like retail, like construction, and i think were seeing that. So, were kind of moving away from the sector that carried the economy on its back for the last five or six years, the oil and gas industry and now were seeing the shift to other industries that are happening from low oil prices. Maria steve cortez, your take . Its better than expected when you look at the number of jobs created, stevebut looks like pretty much in line with what you were looking for. Right, listen, i stick with my theme, what worries me is the fact that, oil prices, oil did very well in the First Quarter this year, so, i would have expected, actually, a better take from the manufacturing and from the Mining Sector because of improved commodity prices, we didnt get that. So what worries me and i hear this a lot from wall street lately, everybody says, oh, earnings are great once you strip out energy. I heard a lot of that in 2000 once you strip out technology. Heard in 2007 once you take out banking, everything is fine. I dont think so. Maria gary, weve got a market thats reacting to this number, in fact, its worsening. We see the market trading lower this morning, connect the dots for us. If you take forget this number, the s ps are basically where they were two hours ago, neutral as expected and now were going to focus what happened overnight in japan, which was trading at significant lows, major correction over there in terms of what happened with their business survey. And the Sentiment Survey, so you had the weak we look at the board in europe, so, i think that this was as expected in terms of the march employment data. And march actually improving. We are off of the lows as i want to point out for stocks. Were essentially where we were on the s ps two hours ago, i think its net neutral on the employment data. We cant say that this number is going to have an impact one way or another in terms of the june move by the fed. Maria pretty steady, jack otter. What the bond market is doing, if anybody has that number, i havent seen it. Treasures are up right now. Maria treasures are up. All right, i think its seen as a good number. In line good in line with what janet yellen said earlier this week, which is that we will continue to monitor the data, ie, were possibly going to move again in june. Maria 181 jack otter. One thing on oil and gas, because the price ticked up a little bit. Still low. Thats going from exceedingly low to a little bit low. So recount is not going up, people are not going to hire that industry until you see supplies going down a lot. Thats true. The job participation which we were talking about right before the number kate out. The job participation right did jump. Even the strongest critics of any good jobs report in recent months said well, were not seeing the tickup. Its moving a little bit and thats something to point out and hourly earnings. Maria hour earnings, too. But the job Participation Rate since september has been growing, to see 400,000 people enter back into the work force, very positive sign and even though weve seen up employment tick up slightly, thats actually still a good sign because thats being driven by more people the question is what, what took so long . So many people do we have any idea how many people could potentially reenter the work force this year . Millions, actually millions, its millions of people that could enter that are not participating. Maria how do you get the number . Well, if you look at the overall population of people eligible to work in the united states. Right. And then the actual amount of people that are only participating, theres a difference of, i dont have it in front of me, but over 50 Million People. Maria go ahead, steve. I was going to say, i estimate that job the drop in the labor force Participation Rate has removed somewhere between 3 and 5 Million People from the work force, so theres still an upside here. The point id like to make, what took so long. Weve been looking at sort of positive jobs report as the Unemployment Rate has come down for three or four years and the mystery has been, always, maria, why arent people entering the work force as they normally do during the recovery . This is kind of the stalled delayed reactions and wages are finally ticking up a little bit and seeing finally people reentering the work force, but were still way behind where we should be. Maria well, a lot of people are talking about it on twitter. Our viewers having this conversation and rich is tweeting out, look, Unemployment Rate up a tick 5 . Pain is felt by male dominated blue collar workers. There are people out there who are not seeing the light of day in terms of job creation, steve. Thats im sorry. Go ahead, steve. Maria, i think its an important point there about men in terms of labor force participation. It has never been lower for men in all of history. So, its not raining men right now when it comes to jobs even though its a great song. [laughter] its not raining men. Middle america, too, its draw the dots, connect the dots to politics, this is a huge part of the trump phenomenon. Middle america has had no recovery or very little recovery. Middle america is still hurting. Maria which is why were not going to see a lot of its okay for the stock market, but not okay for the americans. You know where the middle class americans are really hurting, steve, is in terms of savings. You know, i think, maria, the reason theres so much economic anxiety out there, there are some reports that came out, the average middle class family has about 5,000 of savings. Theyre feeling like theyre living paycheck to paycheck right on the edge where anything that pushes them, you know, into an unemployment situation, you know, pushing them into, you know, financial insolvency and i think thats the big problem. Its why you see these thousands and thousands of people showing up at trump rallies, so concerned about their financial future. Maria makes sense. To steve moores point, this is going to be a drag on the economy for a long time. Weve seen the savings rate go up dramatically, one theory is thats where gas savings is going, into the passbook savings account. Maria 5. 6 is the savings rate right now. Very high. If you take a newspaper headline tomorrow, not barrons, but the newspaper. Its going to send the general message that things are great and steve cortez points out, this is why theres anger in politics, its not so great. Maria the headlines saying it and when youre at your kitchen table, no, no. The front page of drudge report minutes ago was best quarter for the u. S. Stock market in decades. So, this is coming across to main street, this is good news. Things are recovering. Is that going to be good for Hillary Clinton . Anytime you have positive news in the economy and the market, it helps the incumbent party, we know that. Of course, sure. I dont think that the market is so happy, not so happy take a look, this is clearly i said i didnt know if it was good news, good news. Well, good news is bad news. Maria to your point. Thats exactly what you said before the numbers. Weve got to talk about wages, average hourly wages up 3 10 of a percent. Thats something i think can really be the start of getting our gdp moving because if people are starting to earn more, theyre going to start consuming more, you know, products out in the market. And we know, 70 of of gdp is made up of consumption. People havent been spending money. As jack pointed out, their Savings Rates are up, but its the gas money theyre putting in their pockets. Exactly. So we need wages to really be the catalyst here to get people feeling more confident. I can tell you, were seeing movement, you know, at monster from our customers across the board. Were seeing customers are having to pay more to get the talent, the markets definitely tightening. It might not be as much in manufacturing, but many of the Service Positions theres definitely some movement in the wage area. Maria is this going to be enough to move the needle on Economic Growth . Weve got a gdp report a week and a half ago. 1 growth. Yeah, and this is a conundrum of this whole conversation, you know, this was a good report, and positive signs on wages, labor force participation, a lot of industries had growth. Were expecting a gdp number of 1 1 2 or less, and that is the concern because as i said before, you know, the previous the Fourth Quarter of 2015 we had what was the number, 1. 3 or Something Like that. It almost looks like weve shifted down a gear and by the way, if people arent consuming, if theyre not spending money, how are the stores going to sell the products. Maria twothirds of Economic Growth is obviously consumption. Look, you had jobs in retail, thats one area we were expecting and that did materialize. Services, health care and education. Construction is important, too. That. Yeah. Its hard to overstate how devastated construction has been since the housing bust, so another decent paying jobs and for the white males who were talking about who had a rough time of it. Maria the number one leader there. If you Pay Attention to the fed, if you just got this number today and knew what janet yellen said earlier this week, does the fed now go in june . Because clearly the stock market had an impact from december through february based on what happened in december. I think trying to isolate everything else. Looking at the number, you would say yes, but not with 1 1 2 growth. Its not growing. We have to steve moore, im not trying to is an i whether its the right move or wrong move, im not trying to get into that. Im asking jack point blank, knowing what we know he said no. Hold on, not with this kind of Economic Growth. Where is the inflation though . Show me, why should the fed. I didnt say they should. Show me in the economy. Maria thats predicting money policy. And thats what the fed should be doing is watching inflation. But the stock market is down at the lows of the morning because theyre reading this as though the fed is now that much closer to another move. Maria steve cortez, look at the market, at the lows of the morning, down 70 points on the dow jones average. You said earlier, cortez, its good, not great. That means youre a seller in this market . You know, i am. Im particularly concerned about crude oil right now. I think the rally off the lows was largely about the rally in crude. Crude oil could not hold 40. Its trading very badly over the last week or so. I think as crude goes, so goes the market, so to me, while the jobs report is very important, i think crude is even more important and i think crude is telling us that we need to go. Sandra whats sending crude oil prices down, talking about treasury yields going up, u. S. Dollar against global currency and thats going to put pressure on the market. Maria 37 doesnt look bad when you consider what we were earlier in the year. Sandra what good is it if its a reflection of near zero growth in this country and you have to consider that, while its grate for the consumer and puts extra money in our savings account, you just detailed, but 37 is that a reflection of a continued weak Global Economy . I think so. Go ahead, steve. Its also a reflection the thing that concerns me the most where the economy is right now is Business Investment because that, to me, is one of the best leading indicators. Much better than the jobs report. And businesses i mean, look at the numbers in the gdp report the last month. Business investment keeps following, if theyre not spending on machinery and equipment and hire workers. Maria look at durable goods numbers, businesses are sitting on cash not spending. Bottom line, if you think the stock market has bounced back in march because of the economy, because of corporate earnings and because things are good, youre happy today. If you think the stock market bounced back because the fed got easy on, in the middle of february, then youre concerned right now and youre a seller of stocks. Maria all right. Its as simple as that. Maria we are going to take a short break. The lows of the morning right now after the jobs report in temps of stocks. Were expecting a decline in the market today of about 80 points on the Dow Jones Industrial average. Which candidate will be best for jobs and the economy . Barrons says they have an answer. Its the cover story. Its next. Im only in my 60s. Ive got a nice long life ahead. Big plans. So when i found out medicare doesnt pay all my medical expenses, i looked at my options. If youre just joining us, were looking at reaction to this mornings jobs report. Take a look where we stand. Its the lows of the morning and the Dow Jones Industrial average down 83 points as weve been reporting. The number of new jobs created in the month of march coming in at 215,000 jobs. That was better than expected although the Unemployment Rate did tick up to 5 up from 4. 9 . Barrons. Com editor with us this morning and the magazine looks at politics and policy this weekend and youre saying, john kasich would be the best president for the markets and job creators, jack . Absolutely. In fact, i dont think its particularly close call. I mean, you look at his experience in Lehman Brothers and look what he has done in ohio, you look at the fact that he is literally the only person and this is kind of amazing, the only guy whose economic plan actually says hell reduce the National Debt and think about that, all of these people are sort of deficit scolds, but trumps plan would increase the National Debt by 10 trillion dollars over ten years and even cruz would increase it because theyre trying to lower taxes more than cutting spending. People think not only does he have a decent plan, but hell actually get things done and finally, hes the only one right now in the polls who actually beats Hillary Clinton. Maria i tell you, the markets have been coming off the weakness in the First Quarter. The month of march rallied, really took things back and as a result, were looking at a gain here for the Dow Jones Industrial average, but gary, wall street obviously has been seeing cuts on the trading desk and a lot of lost job. The ipo market in the First Quarter worth noting the slowest since 09. This is something that president clinton was talking about when he was campaigning for his wife hillary talking about doddfrank and urging the unions to vote for him in the primary and celebrated doddfrank and the loss of jobs on wall street, listen. Hillary says, look, you know, i know my opponent says that wall street is the only problem, but thats not true, there are somewhere between 50 and 70,000 fewer people working on wall street today than there were before the crash because of the banks that failed and because of the bill president obama signed that i think next to the Health Care Bill was the most important bill to be signed, the doddfrank bill. Do you know want to know why he talks about it like its a positive, 70,000 fewer jobs. The fact that if there are fewer jobs and fewer people helping individuals, corporations, businesses get credit, go to the Capital Markets, build their businesses, you know, mr. Bill clinton, why is that a good thing . And by the way, the stock market might have rebounded from january, february, im not breaking any news here. The business conditions, be it the ipo market which you talked about, trading revenues, Capital Market revenues, most hedge funds, for most Mutual Investors a former president , bill clinton of all people, considered to be so business friendly, its never good news when anybody loses their job for him to let alone go out and boast about that. I think he was boasting about the regulations that they put in place, you know, to protect, but it came across, obviously, focused on, hey, you know, wall street lost 70,000 jobs. The truth is, a lot of the jobs that were lost in wall street were due to technology. Right. And i kind of felt like he was taking credit and it was a weird thing that he wanted to get credit for, but its technology that eliminated a lot of those. Maria one of our viewers is tweeting out, technology has taken a lot of jobs, also. So this is a really good point. Is that what people need to do to arm themselves for the right skill sets to get the jobs of tomorrow . Absolutely. When we see all the job growth today and its in professional and Business Service sector and health care, those are very skilled positions and even the trade positions, we talked about, you know, men not working, its not raining men, as steve mentioned. Maria white collar. Its the trade jobs, these people getting skills and experience, whether its trade positions, professional jobs, technology, science, health ca care. Sandra blue collar jobs. They need that experience, absolutely. The other thing is that the impact of that, i cant believe that bill clinton is defending the doddfrank bill. You just have to go around the country, maria, you see it day after day in Small Businesses. Maria and we just heard from scalia about doddfrank and everybody is pushing back on it. And the most negative impact is in smaller communities where you have the Community Banks that are folding or being bought up by big banks and that actually hurts employment because, you know, look, if youre a Small Business man or woman, you know, you go down to the street to your local bank and its not there anymore. Its the big banks. I think maybe bill clinton was making up for talking about obamas awful last eight years, maybe thats why hes defending obama in this speech. Maria a short break, final thoughts on the jobs report next. There are four of us who suspended our campaigns and you know, weve used that term carefully, suspend, not end. As of today, we are back in. Were still on the ballot, that announcement will come later this morning. And we have decided theres just too much rancor, too much absurdity going on and we will go in to make sure that it goes to the convention. Maria wait a minute. And we have have specifically chosen this day, april 1st, for me to make this announcement. Maria so youre saying april fools joke . I had you going. Youve got to admit it. [laughter]. I had you thinking. Maria trying to trick me here on april fools day. Yes, it is april fools day, everybody. Oh. He almost had me there. You were definitely kind of thinking like. Maria hey, no joke, the jobs number a little better than expected. Thats no joke. Its sort of more of the same, but. Sandra were in this weird market as gary alluded to before the report, we dont know when good news is good news for the stock market and bad news is good news. I dont know, so the market seems to be sorting itself out. Not a hugely positive reaction when it comes to u. S. Stocks, but this is a better than expected jobs report. A lot of good news with that Labor Participation rate with wages, you know. Its not just that headline number, i think if you really dig into this, even looking at some of the revision, even though they were slight, overall, a really positive report, whether wall street likes it or not. S p at the if you look at the screen, s p at the lows of the day. We had a bad overnight in japan. We had a bad overnight, a bad morning this morning in europe and so we know that this is good news for the economy or good news for the job market, its bad news for the equities. Maria im glad you brought the International Markets up because one of the issues with japan was this socalled survey, Sentiment Survey and the purchasing Managers Index, not great in japan. The other purchasing Managers Index in europe were okay, slightsly better for those not trading the japanese market, japan has massive stimulus going into the market. A negative rate. Absolutely. But i think, remember bill gross five or six years ago called this the new normal, i think he nailed it. In a world of terrible growth. We complain about it in this country, were the best house in the bad neighborhood, to use that cliche. Half the world is in recession. A slight up tick in wages, thats what recovery looks likes right now. Maria next catalyst, you guys, is going to be earning. Steve moore, steve cortez, whats your take . The First Quarter earnings will be released in the next weeks. Theres a debate about the economy. Its decelerating. Is it decelerating to the point that its recession . I suspect thats in the cards. We dont have to argue about it, we know that earnings are already in recession and particularly because of energy and resources. Earnings, unfortunately, i think are going to be challenged. And i cant believe you fell for that april fools joke. [laughter] when he said april 1st, i was like, wait a minute. Great conversation, everybody. Gary, sandra smith, jack otter, joni courtney, steve cortez, have a great weekend. Go carolina. Ill see you on sunday. Varney Company Begins now. Over to you. Stuart maria, thanks very much indeed. Hillary irritated, donald struggling. Bernie has momentum and so does ted cruz and elon musk, tesla surging. And hillary wagging her finger saying im sick of the Sanders Campaign saying about me. And trump losing with women, evangelicals and conservatives. An of a meet
