i remember when you started to back donald trump midway through the primaries. you saw what the middle of america saw early on and the rest of the country is only now coming to grips with. >> what a great day we'll have tomorrow. we have been in a nightmare. mainstream america was so tired of the destructive policies of the obama administration. when donald trump came along, he ignited the fire that we needed to get someone to fix this country. i said people will be surprised at what a landslide he's going to do, and he did it. we pierced that blue wall and that wall is going to go down completely. charles: you called this early on. here we are right now on the eve of president donald trump and expectations are high. i want to share with the audience. we had a poll that just came out. a fox news poll. the mood of the nation. 60% say everyone is in it for themselves. only 34% believe we are in it together. opportunitiesn americ34% say it phase other people. only 36% say it faves them. how do we square that. is this a lingering idea that maybe there are not opportunity for everyone, but with donald trump those things can change? >> i think a lot of people have conflicting idea and feeling where the country should go. but this will be an amazing day. all the experts. all the pundits said he's not going to run. there is no way he can win the general election. and here he is. he will be inaugurated. donald trump has the ability to talk up the economy. and you will see -- he said that barack obama should have been more of a cheerleader for the country. donald trump will be that cheerleader. but the biggest challenge for him is uniting the country. i think his speech tomorrow is going to do that. charles: we talk about the economy. the stock market took off. it's the best first five weeks in history post-election because it began with the acceptance speech. donald trump set a certain tone then. and the transition has gone smooth ever since. tomorrow will be the first of many opportunities he will have to change these numbers where 60% say everyone is tonight for themselves. we are not a united, united states of america. >> i would be shocked if tomorrow he doesn't set a unifying tone. we still have a country in a sour mood, but you are starting to see economic optimism. if trump can give people more after reason to feel good about this economy, maybe that begins to seep into general political discourse. but he won because people were so discontent tomdiscontent tom charles: tom barrik who has done a great job putting this inauguration together. he's going to introduce donald trump himself. and before that happens, jan, leading up to this inauguration, i only caught a small tailnd of sam moore. i love sam. when i was a kid, me and my younger brothers would sit in the bathtub singing soul man with the bubbles in the bathtub. >> too much information, charles. but, jan, one of the things we see happening. the boycott by hollywood and elected officials, democrats. so donald trump has a lot of heavy lifting to do. but it would be helpful if the others would help as well. >> he needs to provide plane tickets to the hollywood stars who said they were going to leave. america would be a better place if they would leave. charles: let's step in and listen to tom barrett. >> the anticipation of the new president as the global leader of the world in three minutes you have reflection and you have expectation. and every president puts their own fingerprints on an inauguration. this president-elect was specific about we wanted. what he wanted was a you. he wanted it to be of the people. and when i say you, he meant the united you. and set in this setting of this reflection pond that sits between three unbelievable monuments of three our pro found leaders. what you see are these incredible stone, beautiful, incredible tributes that stand above us for the purpose of reflecting, of thinking what was it? what went before them? but what really stands out and you can hear it in the silence amongst you at the moment is the mortar, not the stone, not the granite, not the marble it's the thousands of lives, the millions of hopes weren't 10,000 aspirations of the all the people, all the themes that went into these great men. along the road we have had 45 men that have left their footprints and fingerprints througut the mtar and in the middle of this tidal basin. as you reflect on those who came before us, annals you have expectations -- as you have expectations before you. i would like you to pay tribute to the courage, the commitment to loyalty of a man who is going to lead you with his footprints to diversity, to put the campaigns behind us. to unite behind one man as one america. he will show the rest of the world that we can argue, we can fight, we can debate, and tomorrow at 11:30 we are one country and he will be the 45th president of the united states of america, donald trump. tomorrow is the inauguration. how are you feeling about this transition in the closer we get to it the better i feel personally and all the noise starts to fade away a little bit >> i feel great. i didn't like the guy. i still don't trust him. but these first appointments, i'm excited about hopeful change for the first time in years. charles: what's the part you don't trust? >> he doesn't read books. he doesn't think things through. he's reckless and narcissistic. and he may do something bad. he may wreck the economy with a raid war charleswar charles: nominee after nominee pushed back against some of the trump doctrine whether on trade or russia. does that make you feel better? the idea he would even select people who weren't necessarily sycophants who achieved enormous success on their own. none of them needed this. none of them are career politicians. generals, ceos. i think they will push back if they have to. john: i'm still in the infatuation phase. i'm so happy hillary is not going to be with us for four years charles: that's one thing everyone calls common grnd johni'm pant sizes all the stuff i thought was bad, he didn't mean. he just meant the stuff i agree with. charles: the trade war. wilbur ross in his confirmation said we have to come back hard with terrorists. i think that's a no-brainer. even barack obama leveled tariffs. we have to do something to level the trading field. we are make other countries rich. >> can you get any better than the lincoln memorial, fan fireworks? charles: i suspect a lot of people who watched that probably feel a lot better right at this very second and maybe 17 hours from now they will feel even better. >> the next 24 hours there are going to be so many images that are going to be hard for people to fathom. donald and melania coming down the steps of the lincoln memorial. donald with his hand on the bible tomorrow. these are images that are the foundation of our civic life in this country and donald trump is at the center of it. charles: donald trump began after the introduction, he thanked the entertainers. he thanked the military talents. then he said there has never been a movement like this. it's moyer and me and he wants to unify the country. i think that's the key. we all acknowledge how divide we are as a nation. i think of all the things we want in the next four years, at least it's one of my great hopes, that we are and much more united nation. tight was very effective on the campaign trail where trump talked about the movement, it's about you, not me. hillary clinton said "i" a lot and that hurt her. he those he has a big challenge. he has to unite this country. it's not going to happen in one speech. he can set the tone early. those pictures were extremely dramatic for a lot of democrats and republicans bracing for donald trump. he's going to shake up washington, d.c., no doubt by the. charles: beautiful tears of joy, hope restored, the finale was magnificent. so damn beautiful, i'm so proud to be an american. we love you, trump. we were talking about kicking out celebrities and not worrying about them. do we need the same enthusiasm and see it spread throughout the nation? if there is economic prosperity that heals a lot of wounds. is this something you want to see as well? >> of course i do. one of the things i want to get away from the celebrities real quick. one of the things that stuck out for me with donald trump is when he talked about the forgotten people. the forgotten man. let me tell you something, charles. from what i have observed here today, this inaugural crowd will be unlike any inaugural republican crowd you have ever sooner. the crowd is as unconventional as this new president is. there are so many people at this inauguration who can't afford to be here. they had to sacrifice to get to washington, d.c. to celebrate this. it's going to be a financial struggle for some of them to be here the next couple days. i'm looking at the diverse crowd. i was excited that he hasn't forgotten about the forgotten man and i think trump will follow through and take care of those people. that's yes was able to pierce that blue wall. those forgotten people who decided the democratic party ignored them too long. charles: he won countless counties that barack obama won two times. >> after four years of trump it will be ebb better. john: can i answer something rich never answered when you have said of course it's right when wilbur ross said you have got to punish china for duffel muching steel. no, let as many as just fight briefly. if china wants to hurt its people to give us cheap steel, yes, it hurts american steel makers. but it helps most of america because we've get subsidized stuff. if we disarmed on trade and they subsidized their industries, that would help us, not hurt us. charles:hat abt the americans who lose their jobs. >> it's terrible. but americans always lose their jobs and gain jobs. charles: someone working in a coal main or steel factory, they are going to find a new job? john: 90% of americans used to work in agriculture. they found other work. charles: 80% usinged to work in manufacturing. where do they go? john: they always find something new, i don't presume what it will be. but do you want your kids to work in a factory? these are new jobs. >> i would like them to be able to sell their product into china without the punishment that makes it unattractive. they can dump anything on us but we can't sell them anything. i know it's purist libertarian think. john: when they dump it it's cheap. and we can use that cheap stuff to sell to the rest of the world. charles: china learned a long time ago, the british show up and they want to trade with them. they said we'll sell you our jade and silk, things you have never seen before. all of a sudden all the silver in europe is in china. so what the heck happened. finally the brits started selling something called opium and it went other way. you don't want to give your silver and wealth away for cheap stuff. charles: are you okay with trade war out of the gate? >> i am glad. it is good for a lot of these countries to be frightened a little bit. charles: you know what, we talk about trade wars, you know after the crash. in great depression, but there were times before that. where we had tariffs and small trade wars that sparked economic prosperity. there is something to be said for that. >> in 19 century we had tariffs it did not hurt us, it was a different situation, we had no other taxes. you look at history of this, you look at 70s all import quotas and tariffs we had to pry to protect. that did not helpure economy -- did not help our economy. i think we need to push on china more, trump is right, they steal our intellectual property, if you are a chinese company that benefits from that, you should not be able to sell anything here. and you are right, certain sectors of the chinese economy are closed off to us, that not fair and not right, trump should try it use leverage to open up those sectors. charles: jan morgan described to us, the workers who barely made it to dc, they are celebrating, this is the man of their dreams, what to we do for that person, john, in an environment where we're not fighting back. where the tables have been turned. sure this is knowledge century but there are millions of people who work with their hands, they work the factories, they need a way to stand up and support themselves and their families. >> we do is what trump said he will do, is get rid of regulation, and obstacles to them, lifting themselves up, but americans for 250 years, with much less than these people have, now they have cell phones they can talk to the world, and learn from the world, they left themselves up, these people, if we get out of their way will find new, more exciting opportunities. >> what has been eroding are manufacturing jobs is overwhelmingly technology. >> robot. >> not trade. >> yes, so the manufacturing jobs we have. because they are more productive they pay higher, that is what you want. charles: and you know, no politician touches that, that involves you know, you can't point a finger and demonize a person per se. long-term game plan for that is 10 years, i would ask, it feels like we're maybe agreeing that donald trump is talking about an environment in this country, that is not paternalistic, where president obama said, the government should to everything for you. is that essence of donald trump message, and his victory? >> absolutely, donald trump sufficient mentality that ron -- is of the mentality that ronald reagan was, that is the government is the problem. get rid of the regulations that are strangling small businesses, they, the backbones of the country. my husband is a manufacturer, he has a small manufacturing business, i have a small, i have talked to a lot of peal ipeople in small business community, the government is the reap tha reason that we see so many close. we depend on manufacturing companies, i believe that donald trump has surrounded himself with some of most brilliant business minds in the world, we'll see some huge changes, one of those will be to get the government out of our business. charles: a big issue is implementing the plans, you do have economic purests who talk about debt, and there are guys like, steve moores of the world who maybe a near ago would never agree to idea of layering on more debt in assumption of hyper growth means fix it, but that is the gam plan we want to get infrastructure started immediately, and fix the inner-cities and child care, a lot of things that cost a lot of money, even if you worship supply side economic that inflow does not come in right out the gate. >> this will be tension between some conservatives, and donald trump, we hospital on the -- report on the hill that donald trump is look at major cuts on government program, and agent, he said i down want to lift retirement age that is at odds with republican orthodoxy of republican leader, medicare and social security are headed for bankruptcy, at some point you have to reform those programs, but this trump administration wants a massive infrastructure bill, that will not sit well with some on the right on capitol hill. charles: how do you go about this, you want smaller everything right out of gate, there are reports that donald trump plans to did serious cutting. >> your producer sent me links from the hill, very exciting. kill endow am fo endowment for art uk and -- get rid of corporate welfare. office of electricity, why do we have an office of electricity. >> why do yo hate lookty, john. >> they happen without government. government did not give us electricity. it is small stuff compared to entitlements, but we have mohair subsidies from world war ii uniforms it hard to get rid of the freebies once people get them, but they say they are doing it. charles: hard to get rid of agencies because the workers, have you know certain contracts and but you know listen rick perry today said he does not want to get rid of department of energy, you would hope he would' to pare it down. the bloat has created inefficiency. >> so ity not clear is how committed donald trump is to this plan that is floating to cut 10% of -- spending. that is what over long run will crowd out spending for everything else. charles: bob. what to you think. the g.o.p. and president-elect have not necessarily been on the same page over last week. when it comes to obamacare. and other things. i think it would behoove the g.o.p. to follow the line, yet you have some that seem like maybe hey will push back. >> yeah. and i mean, i think if you look at president obama, he was a astute campaigner, governing of harder, trump was a masterful campaigner governing it harder, this is first time in decade that republicans have house, senate and white house, they can make a lot of laws but they have to be mostly on the same page. i believe that some conservatives on hill who have been a pain in the neck to john boehner and paul ryan, if they try to cross donald trump, he will call them out, and tweet at them. he may go too their districts. stow, this is a guy who portrayed himself as a great businessman. then a great republican candidate, then a great general election candidate, now he has the bully pulpit. high wilhe will use that effectively, you have seen corporations that he has called out, i have talked to a lot of people in corporate america, they arer inous the nervous they are next. charles: today, lockheed-martin bridging that f35 in at a lower price, i believe next week we hear a 6 year contract, and i think that america will applaud and i believe their stock will go up, bully pulpit, and twitter, pressure, public shaming that plays a role in this as well. >> absolutely love it i love that when you say he the tweet at them, their biggest fear, a business owner's biggest fear the president tweets at me. that is hingthat -- i am excited he is still tweeting, you know, i think it is great, this is his direct line to the people, he has a larger audience on twitter, and social media than many television networks, so, you know who needs the media, if you don't treat him right, he will tweet at you, and get the message out the way he wants to, to the american people. charles: are you confident, jan, that donald trump will be able to circumvent the pitfalls if that swamp we call cassiucash washington, d.c. he will fac face it from both sides, there are a lot of people who are comfortable, it will be difficult to keep his pledge. it will be real difficult to help any meaningful way, we saw barack obama, with welfare and those give aways that does not make a person feel like a person, do you think he will be able to do that? >> i think that donald trump relishes in a challenge, i can't imagine any presidential candidate that faced any more of a difficult challenge than donald trump did on e c raicampaign trail, it was brutal. people are going on get onboard, or he will tweet about them, they will lose their elected positions. charles: true. by the way a lot of democrats in trouble too, in mid terms, i think that might be -- those might be outlies that no one is counting otomorrow we get inauguration, monday we're promised a lot of serious action right now the of the gate, anything specific that you would like to see. >> might do or they kill the department of labor. labor happens, you don't need a department, same with come sersers -- commerce, it just happened. now we have rick perry saying i didn't mean it he said he wants to cut it but once they do it, there are people saying this is how valuable this is, but for every dollar of good they do, they do 5 dollars of harm. charles: i agree. and i think that hope is that maybe after 4 years, they will be in a military. talking about unifying the country. talking about helping people who for the most part have felt ignored. by both sides of the aisle. >> right, i think that is what we saw in vote ar voting patterns, they crossed on other side and voted for the unheard voices which i believe donald trump represented. charles: jeff dewitt, you have been a an intel rally part of the move. , harder part is implementing these plans, we had a diussi about monday. how does donald trump reward those forgotten people who went to bat for him? >> first thing is get a cabinet in place that allows us to move forward with policies, you hear donald trump in his speech, talk about unification, which, is only message he has gotten forward with since the end of the campaign, yet have you a lot of democrats on capitol hill, that seem like they are using this confirmation process as a way to unclear their personal vendettas, they are not bringing country together, i wish that democrats would get onboard with unification. going back to president obama was elected john boehner came out, and said we hope to work together. came out, we hope to work together. they try their best. they were in same position that democrats are now, not in control of house and senate, now republicans have control, the democrats are not doing what republicans did in '08. and i wish they would get onboard, it's time to stop cut. donald trump said he plans to little bi lift that sequestration, i interviewed president obama, he said the problem was congress, now the challenge for donald trump will be to go to congress, to lift the spending caps, let military do what it needs to do. >> beyond that. barack obama who won nobel peace prize a week into office, was to my knowledge who spent dropping 80 bombs a day on various countries. american public is become wary of it i assume military. it feels like mandate has never been to win. >> i think he tried something different. you can fault him for trying something different. you can look at fact he wanted to try to get countries to take ownership of countries around him. like the middle east, that was really what his policy was about. teaching them to change a tire to do it when their cargos flat. but it has not worked. we're bringing in people like general james mattis who is very well respected, i think will be a very good mind to lead our military going into future, and donald trump taking a dferent approach. hopefully it will increase more cral in military. charles: donald trump overwhelmingly run military vote during the election on november 8,
