lou: new york values, a shot at ted cruz who hasn't been able to recover from his careless insult about new york values. but cruz keeps trying today. >> donald's own phrasing. let me be clear as i said many times. the people of new york. y'all have suffered under the left wing democratic policies that are forced on you. lou: we'll talk with dr. ben carson, ed rollins, michael goodwin, also tonight hillary clinton's week off to a bad start. her national lead over bernie sanders shrinking to just 2%. 50% to sanders' 48%. we'll have the full report on the far from settled democratic race. president obama under increasing pressure to declassify 28 pages of a congressional report that has been kept secret for 14 years. keeping secret the involvement to what extent of saudi arabia in the 9/11 attacks. americans want the right to sue saudi arabia but the president is opposed. our top story tonight, the fight for new york. donald trump poised to win big tomorrow, biments not taking any chances in his quest for the 1ers 237 dell -- for the 1,237 delegates. he is blasting what he says is a rigged delegate system. and he's set to do so at a rally in buffalo, new york. carl cameron is there with our report. reporter: donald trump's pushing toward a landslide in his home state of new york where 95 delegates are up for grabs. his goal is 80. >> the polls are what they are. they were beyond anything that anybody has seen. reporter: an average of recent polls shows the developer ahead of john kasich and ted cruz. on staten island trump raised the possibility of violence at the convention if he's not the nominee. >> i hope it doesn't involve violence and i don't think it will. but i will say this. it's a rigged system it's a crooked system. reporter: kasich suggested carping about the rules are something losers do. >> if it works with me i'll say it was a great process, if it doesn't, i'll probably say it isn't with donald. reporter: if he wins the nomination he may try to replace rnc chairman strikes priebus who asked the committee to not to change any rules. to win the nomination on the first ballot, trump needs to win 60% of the remaining bounds delegates. possible but not easy with cruz and kasich fighting him all the way. >> we have won five in a row, and donald is just set so he's throwing a fit. reporter: cruz outmaneuvered cruz in two states. cruz is now all but promising a floor fight at the convention. >> it's going to be a battle in cleveland to see who can get to a majority. i believe donald's highest total will be on that first ballot because donald cannot win and we don't want to nominate someone who is a loser in november. reporter: his critics say he doesn't have the political chops. lou: on the democratic side, both candidates working to overcome fumbles. hillary clinton trying to clear up confusion over her support of a bill allowing september 11 family to the sue saudi arabia. bernie sanders struggling to explain his tax returns that critics say reveal his hypocrisy. reporter: hillary clinton was in full damage control mode on whether she supports a bill sponsored by chuck schumer giving the families of 9/11 victims the right to sue saudi arabia. the candidate suggested she had not done her homework on the issue. i do try to learn what's at core of any question before i offer an opinion. reporter: an issue with special residents in new york. but bernie sanders may not able to capitalize base also came out in favor of the legislation after initially fumbling. >> you are asking me to give you a decision about a situation in a piece of legislation that i am not familiar with. reporter: the back and forth came as a top clinton advisor told fox they are confident of victory but nervous sanders closed this into single digit margin. sanders had over 28,000 people at prospect park in brooklyn. >> we want a government which represents all of us, not just the 1%. reporter: clinton played right into that narrative as pro sanders protesters showered her motorcade with dollar bills, symbolizing the fact that she was attending fundraisers attended by george clooney. even he admitted it was an obscene amount of money. >> the sanders campaign is right it's ridiculous we should have this kind of money in politics. reporter: sanders had taxable knock of 205,000. putting him in the top 5% and he only paid an effective tax rate of 13.5%. though he wants to raise taxes to pay for his programs. reporter: the clinton camp says sanders is getting desperate. we hear so much about the tension and division on the republican side and there is some where there. but it will be hard for these two democrats to come back together. >> it many obvious to us now. at the same time, trump is supposed to be the struggling young politician, if you will against these pros. and they are tripping all over the giving september 11 families. >> do you support the 9/11 families? >> smart strategy. i dates agree with you and disagree with him. these things are all set up in advance. everybody gets to participate. we didn't argue when the iowa caucus was taking place. they don't pick them until june. lou: i would argue with you, that's what you get. >> it's your show. but the reality here it seems to me is you have got an rnc making ugly noises. the chairman has not been neutral. the man running the convention is paul ryan, the speaker of the house, and he's not been neutral. he's anti-trump. you can sugar coat this anyway you want to. this an anti-establishment running the republican party that is anti-trump. >> i go back to the one that was anti-reagan. he almost won it. lost by 117 votes. trump has a plurality of the votes and delegates an has a shot at winning this thing. i don't think it's a bad strategy to be attacking the rnc. but i think the weird federal system, we let states pick and choose their own ways of dos doing this. lou: you have the rnc chairman saying the majority, that's the american way. 1,237 as he dismissed a million voters in colorado and preside over a convention that's rigged. >> there is a bunch of conventions the parties themselves choose. lou: i understand. but it's hypocrisy to talk about the majority where it comes to 1,237. >> nobody has a majority of votes or delegates. lou: i quite understand. but i would like to see the american people have a voice in this. particularly the american republicans, wouldn't you? >> i'll try and give it to them right now. the point about the state parties, we are seeing with the state parties is this is its own corruption. imagine the new york legislature which we are also familiar with, how corrupt they are. why should we think the state parties anywhere -- they only want democracy when it elects their person. they are happy to one man, one vote, one time idea. so i think that's what's going on here. lou: is it going to get straightened out? >> probably not. i'm reading a terrific book on the '76 book on the reagan revolution. both of them were doing it. you would have the primary. > lou: one of the things that drives me crazy is both parties start talking about voter disenfranchisement. and what is happening in the democratic party -- >> with the superdelegates. the rules are the way they are. i think we ought to have a regional primary where the first tuesday every month -- lou: the rnc approved the deals all these state parties came to. >> each state basically consider they have to go to the legislature. legislatures have to say the democratic party -- it's a complicated system. lou: i wonder why it is complicated. >> these are all politicians. every one of them, up and down the line. they are all trying to get theirs. why should we assume that the political class in colorado is any better than the political class in new york or new jersey or connecticut? [announcer] stay in the flow with quickbooks self-employed. start your free thirty-day trial today at join-self-employed-dot-com. lou: joining us tonight, retired neurosurgeon, dr. ben carson, who has endorsed donald trump, it great to have you with us, let's get straight to what is going on with rnc, it seems it insists on taking out, an anti-trump opposition on just about every piece of rhetoric that ib ensues. >> it seems like they may be tone deaf. if you go back to the beginning of this political season, the people were so frustrated because the political class, establishment, seemed to be controlling things, not really listening to the people. and election after election, people have sent what they thought were solutions to congress, and nothing has changed. people are incredibly frustrated. it seems that the rnc and political establishment, republican party will be paying attention to this, and last thing they would want to do is to give the image of thwarting the will of the people, if they do, that it will cause immense resentment they will throw the election. lou: it is -- they are playing with fire, they seem to be almost delighting it seems, some of them, among those elites some donor class, here trump has brought in now used support him -- you support hip him, you are bringing in more people, the tent is getting bigger, and wider. and it is like some fools just want to reject an expansion of the e-- election rat that wants to support a republican candidate for president. >> it is amazing. i was flabbergasted by number of people who assault say, i have never voted, i never registered and i first contributed -- i have never contributed, but they are doing those things they are excited, those people will go back, they won't do anything if thigh til they feel their will has been thwarted. i hope that political establishment with understand that and recognize this is not a matter of who you like or dislike. this is a matter of our children, our future as a nation, we're on the precipice of decides what kind of nation are we going to be. are we going to be like all other nations in world that believe all their rights and privileges emanate from the government. do we have the same kinds of principles they had that allowed us to go from no where to pinnacle of the world in record time, are we willing to throw that away for political correctness? lou: are a few elites willing to? you know, wonderful thing is, you and donald trump, i mean, i said it here, many times, trump if he accomplishes no other thing. the way in which he has smashed through political correctness. you know, of those who you know prize you know, well, over just truth, you know he has done an amazing thing for this country, and good news is, i got a hunch it is only starting what do you think. >> he is also you notice, talking a lot more about we the people, rather than me the candidate. i think this is a very good move, a good tact, it is sincere, i talked to him, he really does care about what is happening to the country, so, i am optimistic that american people will recognize what they have to do. they have to do now is come out and vote in massive numbers. so they can overcome the rnc, and the political establishment they can make it so dramatic no amount of meddling will be able to interfere with the will of the people. lou: we're hope you are right, dr. ben carson, you have a good track record, thank you. >> good luck tomorrow. >> thank you, lou. absolutely. lou: what do you do when your hat falls into a tiger's cage? >> not really. i doubt they will see much change in the rules. the rnc rule committee at-this-point in the contest doe does not have an option to change the rules, we can only change them through the convention committee. lou: they do not convene until weekend before the convention, correct? >> it comes in week before, yes, start that tuesday the week before the convention starts. lou: by time you get there, you are going to have a lot of a lot of understanding of what the -- the membership if you will, members want to see happen. a lot of people are worried about the make up of the various committees, who will there be there make those decisions. and a lots of talk is that, cruz has a bigger reputation but he has fewer delegates at-this-point. than trump. and that trump will be under represented. how concerned should people be about that. >> i don't think that is going to happen. ruling committee -- rules committee made up of one man one woman. those delegations are dominated by trump people, because, donald trump has so far won 23 to 24 states we'll see what happens in next week. but by time it is all over he probably would have bun close to 30 -- won close to 30 states that means that rule committee members from these states are likely to be trump supporters, there is one or two examples where cruz campaign was able to able to get their own people in their slots, but for the most part the trump team will prevail. lou: when example are you referring to? >> i believe in michigan. lou: let me, there are some concerns about louisiana and also well georgia. as well. there are a couple of other states in there. let me turn to rhetoric that is emanating from both speaker of the house who'll running the convincetion. -- convention and reince priebus, the rhetoric that has emanated from the rnc and ryan has been anti-trump, hostile to millions of voters who support him. the rnc should be -- i am just, i don't understand why, they are not more welcoming, of all of the millions of folks he is bringing in. and why they are not being more neutral as they would think just professional i want to be with trump. >> i don't think they have been hostile to donald trump. i know that donald trump i heard him today against say that rules are a sham, and twisted. against him. but donald trump is so far won 37% of the votes in the republican primaries. more than anyone else, but he now has 45% of the delegates, it has not treated him too badly. >> but that disparity, is also explained in large measure by win or take all states where you see inflated result, with boosts his delegate count because of the winner-take-all. >> yes that is true. lou: right. >> and there is more winner-take-all stating to come, at least, the winner of a state, state wide contest, is going to get the majority of those delegates from each state, in many states as in maryland, pen pin, new york they are -- pennsylvania and new york they are decided in individual congressional districts. >> let me ask you, really quickly. two quick questions, one is. the neutrality of the rnc, and the fact you feel he has 45% reputation on rules committee. >> that is where he stands right now. lou: today, you think that is where he would be? >> i think that is probably going to hold fairly accurately, somewhere there in that range. >> and how concerned should trump supporters, millions of them be about fact that speaker ryan made it blister ingly clear he does not like the agenda of donald trump and he is creating his own some i heard that as well, but you know. >> rnc rules committee, is not going to change the minds of delegates on the floor they will vote way they already committed. and most delegates are committed for one ballot in maryland, where imwe're committed for two. so, it is only in if goes to multiple ballots have you shifting, the rules committee or the rules themselves do na do not affect how individual dill gatz -- delegates vote. there sinc isn't anything in the rules to change that fact. >> right. those 4 convention committees will be important. >> they will. lou: as john sununu taught us in 2012. >> he did. lou: louis pope we appreciate you being here. we hope your view is followed by destiny. >> enjoy the process. lou: we always enjoy process. and politics. >> donald trump he likes nicknames you may have noticed, he has a new one for hillary clinton. free of charge. we'll have that for you here stay with us, we'll be right (patrick 1) what's it like to be the boss of you?
