Fears russia has a tampered with inside moscow alleges the gas attack was staged and shes known as an astro alex chancellor merkel the first to call him germanys ambassador to space now astronaut alison i guess is preparing his next big step to ask commander of the International Space station. Im sorry so misconduct good to have you with us french president Manuel Mccall has condemned a rise in authoritarianism in the u. And urged europeans to defend their democracy mako was outlining his vision for the future of europe in a speech to the European Parliament in strasbourg he said that the e. U. Was failing to address the fears and concerns of a citizens and that change is long overdue. You two should really dont think there is doubt in a number of European Countries and month off to monks. These doubts a seeing off a school ally foundations into question the fundamental seems to be a sort of european Civil War National selfishness and egotism taking precedence over what unites us all to secure news in the. Hoffman has been following the speech in strasbourg for us i asked him what mccalls vision for europe looks like the vision wasnt very clear theres still some fog in that vision because the outlines you know not very precise the details not very precise maybe thats on purpose thats per design you dont really put down the nitty gritty details of your policy here at the European Parliament in a speech like that but generally speaking it was a Strong Defense for the case of the European Union saying and i thought that was probably one of the strongest quotes by mccraw i dont want to be a generation of sleepwalkers i want to be in a generation that fights for democracy hard thats one of the sentences that ras the most or many of those parliamentarians here as well and he said we need a new debate we need a new debate all across the European Union to define what unites us and what divides us and have a new project for the European Union and he said we also need to get on with the reform of the eurozone ok all these things are more or less clear how he counts really putting them into effect is not clear at the moment one of the reasons for that is germany thats not necessarily in agreement with his plans for the reform of the euro zone Davies Max Huffman speaking to us a little bit earlier there now russia and the u. S. Have stepped up their war of words over an alleged poison gas attack in the syrian city of duma the u. S. Says moscow may be trying to remove evidence and accuses russia of delaying a visit to the area by International Chemical weapons inspectors a russia denies those claims and says the inspectors will be granted access to do much to morrow on monday syria allowed International Journalists to visit the city. The media may have been invited here but u. N. Chemical weapons inspectors will have to wait until wait to get near the site of last weeks a legit gas attack and which dozens were reportedly killed. An emergency meeting of the International Watchdog was called to demand an explanation for the delay but ended with frustrations and hostilities running high this was also our opportunity for awesome for allies to set out our case in the organization that is designed to uphold the Chemical Weapons Convention to make very very clear that the russians have blocked diplomatic channels for us. European space agency astronaut alexander gas has held his final News Conference today ahead of his next trip to the International Space station in june yes will be the first german commander of the station his crew will take off on june sixth their mission includes testing a new Artificial Intelligence robot that will help them with their Research Tasks the crew especially expected to return to earth after six months and how you react to it and lets get more on the story now with british astronaut tim picu is a former i. S. A. s crewmember temp thank you so much for joining us now you were once on the i s s tell us more about what the experience is like. Good afternoon yes well the life aboard the International Space station is absolutely incredible of course its fundamentally microgravity portrayed so were up there to do Scientific Research the crew work extremely hard a whole range of different scientific experiments but of course the space station is also been out there for twenty years now so it does require some Maintenance Activity as well and we have to keep ourselves physically fit in space so that we can bear the punishment of skrabets when we return so that means youre pretty busy up there. Very busy indeed and of course alex it will be his second Long Duration mission to the space station so he knows exactly what life is like up that its a very challenging environment in any one day we can be working with control centers from houston huntsville in the United States munich scooper in japan to moscow and were working with scientists on a whole range of different experiments from things like fluid physics studying new metal alloys and a lot of human physiology experiments as well tell us more about the research that this crew is going to carry out. Who are on board the space station we actually have a rolling Science Program we have a number of different payloads up there and so any crew that goes up just takes over the science experiments of the running at the time but as i mentioned human physiology is one area that Microgravity Research is teaching us an awful lot about the human body when we go into space so much many things change from our eyesight to our cardiovascular pressure to our bone density atrophy our muscles atrophying and we can learn an awful lot about the human body by running a number of different different experiments when were in space and also we when we return i mentioned things like fluid physics and metal alloys as well understanding more about metal our processes so we can use those techniques in our Manufacturing Processes back here on earth in things like aircraft engines for example making them lighter and more fuel efficient so its a really important opportunity for Scientific Research but what are the challenges of carrying out these experiments. Well of course the main challenge is microgravity which is the reason were out there but of course astronauts are well trained in how to deal with that of course its also difficult to get items into space its expensive and we need to maximize the opportunities that we have for doing Scientific Research but the space station has been up there for twenty years now and we have very use a very active Scientific Program and so the amount of science that were doing on a daily basis now is more than weve ever done before and in these are experiments that cannot be conducted on earth well they can be conducted on earth or in fact in terms of doing a trial but of course what microgravity gives you is something that everything on earth has had for four billion years and that is gravity so by going into microgravity we change an incredible parameter and as any scientists know when you change a parameter you learn new things here on earth of course we can change things like temperatures and pressures quite easily and experiment we can change gravity for a short period of time in either centrifuge or sounding rockets or parabolic flights but we cant go into microgravity for long periods of time to really investigate and study interesting things that happen unless we go into orbit for a while british astronaut tim peake speaking to us thank you so much tim. Thank you. So here in germany chancellor Angela Merkels refugee policy is still controversial her new Coalition Government has pledged to focus on security and to speed up the deportation of rejected asylum applicants but many of those are now seeking shelter in german churches and hundreds of parishes grant what they call Church Asylum document a syrian student who has received a deportation order but fled into a catholic church. This church in cologne is protecting user keeney from deportation. The syrian student must leave germany because she came to europe via italy. German law requires her to apply for asylum in italy is on the deportation list i hear that so people go back to italy streets so my family we. Have a right to live. The twenty four year old asylum application has already been rejected twice but this Lutheran Church and its pastor are giving her temporary protection. For now she can be near her father and brother who have been granted asylum here in germany. The family was torn apart by war her mother and youngest brother are still in syria waiting for visas to germany. She keeps her family together virtually with a collage she made on her mobile phone. And this is it it makes me so angry its inhumane book stage four floors the rightful place itself the most human rights in this fashion why cant they forbid the family to reunite. The church protects you sir but the asylum offered by the church is not official Legal Protection so far the state tolerates this the police doesnt raid christian places or prayer right now about six hundred refugees are being harbored by german churches officials have a problem with this. Stuff a Church Asylum can only be allowed to exist in exceptional cases if clever lawyers misuse of your original agreement and apply churches extend the refugee stay until deadlines expire then we cannot accept them can be. For political reasons you says father left syria three years ago he doesnt want to talk about this as long as his family still is in danger the situation in syria is safe i mean. From minute to minute. Theres no. Thing. Theres no accounting i left syria. When she lived in syria used her head in an active life she worked with the humans have projects for war damaged children and was writing her bachelors too says on the restoration of war torn palmira now shes stuck waiting in germany for an undetermined time period. So i hope thats. My new mother and her brother soon and thats who is going to better as i said it was. Dreams of completing her masters degree in architecture in germany one day she wants to return to syria and help rebuild it after the war is finally over. Youre watching the news still to come a new cold war in cyberspace thats what some experts are calling russian Cyber Attacks they say were aimed at both government and private computer.
