U. S. uk relations under the trump administrations. Hello and welcome to west minister in review. A look at the last three months here at parliament. A term dominated of arguments of brexit and unpredictable american president. It is the Brexit Debate thats taken up the most time and stirred the strongest passions. He emerged in wonder land where countries around the world are cueing up to give the trading advantages. Once again we become a sovereign Nation Church in our own destination and i am absolutely delighted about that. Embarrassment for the chancellor forced to drop part of his budget. A shocking and humiliating that the chancellor is forced. A british Prime Minister met the u. S. President but there was an explosive comment after the meeting. I even more strongly opposed to address by President Trump. There were changes of direction and a scheme allowing child refugees from europe into the uk. How does she live with herself leaving thousands of children subject to disease, people trafficking. Many will remember most about west minister spring term had nothing to do with arguments over europe. W west minister bridge, killing three. He stabbed a police officer, keith palmer, the 52yearold was shot dead by armed police. The incident did in the last long but it is extreme violence and suddenness shocked the colony. Order, order. Thats itment i. I am not going to suspend the sitting of the house. Please wait here. For several hours peace and parliament coventwormers were u lockdown. There is a serious incident within the states. It is clear of the advise from the police, director security is still the chamber to remain in lockdown. I hope the house would agree in the current of circumstances, it would not be right to continue with todays business. The following morning, the Prime Minister address the somber house of calmness. Today we meet as normal. To deliver a simple message, we are not afraid and our results will never waiver. Mr. Speaker, yesterday we saw the worst o f humanity but well remember the best. Well remember the extraordinary efforts to save the life of palmer including those of my memorable friends. And well remember the exceptional bravery of our police, security and Emergency Services as the Prime Minister said, when danger and violence took place, we can be run away from them from our own safety. The police in Emergency Services run towards them. We are grateful for the public service, yesterday, and today and everyday that they put on their uniforms to protect us all. This democracy is strong and its parliament is robust. It is an act of terror. It has failed. Those who attacked us hate our freedom and our democracy and our love of the country and our tolerance and openness and our unity. As we work to unravel how this d despicable attack happens. One man cannot shut down the city. One man cannot look down democracy. We recommit ourselves of understanding. This attacker and people like him are not of my religion. I wish to condemn all of them of a particular religion because they are not of a religion. If they. Reporter o if they were of a religion, they would not carry acts like this. West minister had not been attacked before. Those of us who are the information and backgrounds of these matters know that there is short of a miracle of the course of the last few years. We have escaped so likely from the evil that i am afraid thats present in our society and many places itself in these sense less and violence and evil. Where that generosity and extraordinary sense of louty that lees people to treat a terrorist in shame. Where is that bravery like palmer demonstrated . Thats a victory for what is right and good over what is over despairing and bad. When the road would reopen around west minister, the public were quick to lay flowers as a tribute to those been killed and the tribute grows in days. The biggest day today of the political story was brexit. Oddly at the start of the year, politicians were not focused. The ten men and one woman who make up the Uks Supreme Court were the center of attention. They were deciding if parliament should pass the act to start the process of uk leaving the eu. Strangely the case was not brought by politicians but by a businesswoman of a main supporter, gina miller. T politicians looking anxiously. Finally on january 24th, the president of the Supreme Court announced its judgment. Today, the majority of 83. The Supreme Court court rules that the government cannot trigger on argument 50 without an act of parliament or the right to do so. It was there to enforce the outcome of last summers referend referendum. Now, the university is known as brexit. What sort of brexit would it be . Are we going to get details, Prime Minister . Prime minister theresa may left with a speech in january. I want to be clear of what i am proposing cannot mean membership of the Single Market. I am equally clear that no deal for britain is a bad deal for britain. [ applause ] although brexit supporting politicians have not wanting any bill fearing of rhfearing of referendum results for the brexit bill. The core of this bill lies a simple question. Do we trust the people or not . It is our duty to ensure the income thats not just for the 52 or the 40 but for the 1500 . This is a big deal. This has an impact on each and everyone of us. The british people did not vote themselves to make themselves poorer by putting themselves out to the Single Market of the world ever seen. The pre apparently, you follo the rabbit down the hole and you emerge in a wonder land. Country around the world are cueing up to give its trading advantages and access to markets that previously we never will acho achiev achieve achieve. I do want the best outcome for the United Kingdom of this process. Some where mad hatter is holding a tea party. [ laughter ] we need train negotiations to recoup at least some of the losses which we are going to incur from leaving the single mar market. For me, this referendum was a solution by consent of a historic this bill at last endorses that revolution. I fear that i will be abandoning my duty who have overwhelmingly and unwaivingly made their point that they do not want to leave the European Union. I accept the democratic vote and i think we should allow the article 50 notice to be triggered. This is the moment where we begin to take back control of our lord and borders and our money. Once again we be l became a sovereign nation state in our destiny, i am delighted about that. These difficult times. Many voted in the thousands to leave the eu. Here is my answer. I can no longer vote for that i can vote against my conscious. I can no longer vote for this because it is against my values. I can vote against my own dna. Jeremy coleman imposed of a three line win of labor and peace have to back the bill. The following week, the brexit bill went to all its stages without any alterations. One supporter, in aless favorable way. No brexit is hard enough. Be gone you evil europeans. I am afraid i had a speech last week exactly making that point. As the bill passed through the commons, the pro eu claimed it is all been done in a rush. The government refusal to accept the single amount meaning there will not be a report stage. The Program Means no debate on sub reading. I am informed that the last time that combination happened was a defense of the rail of 1914 which was about the first one. For this to happen and any bill would be an abuse to happen on this bill is an outrage. What does it say about the procedure of this place that allow a bill of this constitutional significant to be through twlhere was no doubt of the government victory. The no select of 122. There was a curious footnote while waiting for the vote. Perhaps like the band playing on as the titanic sang. The s p sang beethovens oh to joy until they they were told to stop. Huge change were not confined to europe. January 20th, donald trump was sworn in as the 45th president of america. I donald trump solemnly swear. Whos the first to meet the new top dog . The Prime Minister, the secretary . No, it was this man. The man credited in some quarters at least for achieving brexit. When news emerged that theresa may would be going to meet the new president , the labor leader thought some talks is needed. How confident is she getting a good deal from a president who wants to put America First and by american and build a wall between his country and mexico. I am afraid to speak frankly to the president of the United States. Yeah. I am able to do that because we have that special relationship. A special relationship that he would never have with the United States. Yeah. President trump produced a series of executive orders. The most controversial being his intended ban on people traveling to the United States from certain countries. Mainly muslim countries. The secretary were asked to comment. Do you disagree with trump . Yes. I support the position that the government has taken, the foreign secretary spelled out that it is decisive and wrong. When theresa may visited trump at the end of january, not everyone is convinced that hand helding inside a tv camera of the white house was a wise move. Protest petitions rang up. He threatened to dump he praised the use of torture and he directly attacked womens rights. Just what more does President Trump have to do before the Prime Minister will listen to the 1. 8 Million People who have already called for a state visit invitation to be withdrawn . Foreign policy is to object and insult, the democratically elected head of state, all are our most important allies. The argument of President Trumps visit well, i am embarrassed to tell you mr. Speaker that not only i was many istaken for trump but it is a humbling experience as you can imagine for me. Mrs. Speaker, i cannot tell you when or who is the exact of this excellent idea to have an invitation. It is a wholly appropriate thing. What about President Trump coming to parliament . The common speaker set an address by a attorney leader was not an automatic right. He spoke about the president s intended travel ban. Before the ban, i would strongly oppose to an address by President Trump in west minister. After the imposition i am even more strongly posed to an address by President Trump in west minister. We value our relationship with the United States if. If a state visit takes place thats way beyond the pay grade of the speaker. However, as far as this place is concerned, i feel very strongly that our opposition to racism and our support for equality before the law and an independent judiciary are hugely important in the house of commons. Well done. [ cheers ] we should not have clapping in the chamber but sometimes it is easier to let it go. I asked the bcc political reporter warepor reporter warepor reporter watson how surprising it was to hear the speaker . It was surprising. And certainly something of a historical role. Thats certainly surprising. Some people suggesting what he was doing is maintaining his role of speaker for a few more years by saying of the opposition benches and liberal democrats and people who are not at all keen on donald trump and his message. To some extent, he was getting them onsite but it was inter t interesting for sure, he may be out. There was not any much support for that and after all, in fact, he seems to got away of what was a very robust denousciation of a foreign leader and prevented him of having a say as president obama addressing in west minister hall. Cuts continue across all areas of spending including l local councils. The most human effective squeeze was in the area of caring for the elderly with People Living longer and the cost of social care keeps on rising. The Committee Session suggesting i am wondering how you plan to fund social care . It is what you do. I think some of that logic and some of the way that we think about that of numbers thats seen coming down the tracks and what well have to sp in a wa it is our responsibility of auer life cycle. Should we be paying for rising social care cost or shelling out more of our council tax. Leading to speculations of a secret deal that had been done between the government. Syria is well represented in the cabinet. Information fallen into the lap of the labor leader. These texts read, i am advised that officials have been working on a solution and you will be contacting me to agree a memo memorandum of understanding. Whether the government publish this memorandum of understanding. I have to say to him that if we look at social care possibly for the entire country, the last thing social care providers need is another one of labors bouncing checks. Sa could the chancellor help with checks that did not bounce . March the 8th was budget day. Time for philliphamlins of his first budget. In the common, he went into a reflective mode. The chancellor presented a final spring budget. 24 years ago. Also presented of the last spring budget. It was voted on an economy that was growing faster than any other in the g 7. He committed to continue in public spending. Then the Prime Minister described it of the right budget of the right time from the right chancellor. They failed to remind me mr. Speaker where ten weeks later he was sacked. Wish me luck today the joke would come back and bite mr. Hammond. Those worried about social care crisis, the chancellor had some good news. So today mr. Deputy speaker, additional ground funding 2 billion pounds to social care to new england. Somebody got to pay for that 2 billion pounds. Thats why mr. Hammonds budget went seriously wrong. Employed and self employed alike, use our Public Services in the same way that they are not paying for it in the same way. The National Insurance paid by the self employed are over 5 billion pounds this year alone. This is not fair to the 85 of workers who are employees. To be able to support our Public Services in this budget and to improve the tax system, i will act to reduce the gap to better reflect the current differences in statebenefits. It was a disaster move. We have seen a scandalous attack on aspiration and taxing those self employed and disin incentives to employing people. Thats a decision thatll come back to hunt this chancellor. The next days headlines were not good news for the chancellor. It was stories of a massive falling out between Prime Minister and chancellor. And Phillip Hammond droppe droppedropped sp dropped since the budget, many have questioned of the proposal increase and have increased of the contributions compatible of the tax lot commission made in our 2016 manifesto. It is clear from discussions with colleagues over the last few days, this legislative test of the manifesto commitment does not meet mr. Speaker, does not meet a wider sunsiunderstan of the spirit. Mr. Speaker, it is very important for me and to my right of the Prime Minister that we comply not just with the letter but the spirit. This is chaos. It is shocking and humiliating that the chancellor has been forced to come here of a key budget position. If the chancellor spent less time writing stale jokes and the Prime Minister less time of sealing on those benches, we would not have been landed on this mess. Lets be clear. This was a 22 billion pound tax heights for many others. In some difficult because my art cal robustly supporting the chancellors early policy. I just having been persuaded of the correctness of the course that hes following. I may need an opportunity. [ laughter ] i asked Aaron Watsons how bad relations between the Prime Minister and the chancellor have gotten in the days of following the budget. Between the two, i think it would be one or to on the scale. Tf it was certainly about five and none of these were official of the Prime Minister and framing the chancellor. It was not right where some people are paying a little bit more. It was breaching a conservative manifesto commitment. Now, if i am a wealthy investor, should i be buying share . I think you should because again, you will have to use the b word, brexit. What you do not want to do is create any impression of instability just as very crucial negotiations of the European Union would be unfortunate to say the least. Therefore, she wants to hold on in a key position. I think it is a private wrapping. I think it will not stay in place of the process. In the longer term, is it going to be chancellor again of the next general election or beyond, i think perhaps you may be thinking of another potential rule by then. Just as one of hammonds policy turning to ashes, there were another of issue that caused an impact. Part of the reason was around the scheme that caused millions of pounds in public money. When the northern island, foster, did not stand down because of the scandal. The Deputy Mcginnis did he was known to be in declining health. For the first time, the unionist did not have a majority on the journey. Seven weeks later, the future looks uncertain. Voting in other parts of the uk was producing traditional hes taking up the top job. 2. Mr. Knuckles campaign ran out of steam. 200 miles further north was a different story when harrison gained for r the conservatives. Whether the members wishing to take her seat, please come to the table. It was the first time in 35 years that the governing party made a by election gain. What about the reasons for the by elections. I asked iain watson. One thing, the word, people are regarding within the labor party and not in the distant part. Considering it is stunning after the 2015 general election. I think from private conversations, there was a feeling they want to put Jeremy Corbin to the test. What actually happens is labor lost copeland rather disaster disasterly. At the time when usually governments are losing votes and seats midterm. Since then there is been a lot of talk of coupe attempts, whats going on . We have a proxy coup going on in the united union. It is also the biggest single donor to the labor party. It is run by an ally of Jeremy Corbin up for reelection. Hes given money directly to the Reelection Campaign so not just giving the money for the party but to someone that he believes will keep the party on the left of british politics. Labor is some where in the region of 19 or 20 points behind the conservatives. The only way it can recover is removing an unpopular leader and trying to remove another leader of a leader of a trade union whos seen that it is funding at his greatest supporter. West Minister Committee had another good credibility of br cycling was hanging on a thread that surrounds by the sports. What was given to riders and when it was given . There are zero records by doctor freeman. What excuse is given to you of this recordkeeping . We have not had an excuse from them. Those were acknowledgment that there were no policies in their record. Thats it and the team as well. It is just not everybody was adhering to it. There was a pasting, too for the internet giants, google, facebook and twitter. You are providing a platform which has acted as a money making machine for the purpose of hate, extremism and support of isis and posupporters of the nazi groups. Thats whats happening in your platform. The way you are dancing around this is disturbing. To be honest with you, mr. Barron, all you have to do is say yes, thats what happened and we are doing it. It has happened. We work very hard to make sure that does not happen. We work with advertisers to giving them transparencies and controls. It is worth pointing out that some of the videos that you are referring to, were not videos that break our guidelines. There were not Business Activities where somebody openly would come in give into the committee and have to admit, how many times they have danced around have to admit that they are making money and people who use their platforms are making money out of hate. Thats happening in your path. We would never want that. You are not working nearly hard enough to deal with this. We are working very hard in this area. Does the Prime Minister know what shes doing. And getting the treaty. The brexit. The negotiation on the scale that we happen to experience from the efforts but certainly since the second world war, this is a humongous scale and well have nenormous amount of busines running in different channels and difficult trade offs for the other 27 on the other side of the table. Among later, the minister known as the brexit secretary gave frank views about whether britain had plan b if no deal of the eu were ever reached. Well, it made the estimate during the leave campaign of the referendum campaign. I think one of the issues thats driven is those having very robust. So you are saying there is been no further assessment of no deal at all sits before the referendum, is that correct . No. Thats not correct. You are putting words in my houhou mouth. Yes, you are. We dont deal with what we can do to mitigate. Much of this is about mitigation. Any fore cost that you make depends on the mitigation. The Prime Minister was watching as well tch. A record of 184 members of the lords spoken initial of the two days debate. The real drama came in the following two weeks. The government suffered two heavy defeats in the bill o f the hands of their lord ship of bills voted to eu nationals living and working in the uk. We had over 3 Million People living in this country who are European Union nationals. It is not just them who are experiencing aing anguish. These people are not bargaining chips. If we say quite freely that they are free to stay. That gives them more high ground to our government and negotiations. It is quite clear to everyone in this house that there are no chance that it will be approved. No wa no way. I think the government ne nenee need why is everybody here so excited of the amendment which looks out to the foreigners and not the british . It is tr. It is a matter of principles of being prepared to do the right thing because it is the right thing and being prepared to say so. These amendments are the wrong time and the wrong bill on the wrong subject and we should support the rights of british citizens living in europe. A week after that, another reverse of the government. Payers demanded a meaningful Parliament Vote of the final eu exit deal. The ministers have control over the terms of our withdrawal of the end of the negotiation pr process. We face the most decision of our time. This amendment clearly set up secures in law of the governments commitment already made to another place to ensure that parliament is the ultimate custodian of our final decision. The Prime Minister says hang on a second, i cannot agree on the deal. I have to go and consult on the house of commons. It is ridiculous. We cannot imagine of an agent of parliament goes back to europe in under two years time and says we dont like the deal. This countrys future should rest with parliament and not with ministers. It is in that spirit that i commend this new lord. The government cannot possibly accept an amendment which is so unclear on an issue of this importance of what the Prime Minister is to do if Parliament Votes against leaving with no agreement. With that risk, let us remember of the first principle that i stated, the government is intent on delivering of the result of the referendum. Having been altered twice, the bill following strict west minister when the two issues returned to the lords. The lords caved in. It is now time for this house to give way to the house of commons on this matter. So all final oppositions voted down. The brexit bill became law. The next stage in the brexit drama took place many miles from west minister. It is a News Conference of the first minister of scotland nicola sturgeon. It is a chance to face their future. When may declared now is not the time for referendum, the par party steps up on their leader. If shes not prepared to negotiate on behalf of the Scottish Government and securing the european market. People in scotland will have a referendum and well have our say. Hes comparing membership of organization with our country. We have been one country for over 300 years. We have fought together and we have worked together and we have achieved together. Yeah. And, constitutional game playing must not be allowed to break the deep bonds of our shared history and our future together. The Scottish Parliament was debating the first ministers call. The future of scotland should not be imposed on us. It should be the choice of the people of scotscotland. Most people in scotland are sick to death of the game. Most people in scotland seen the plain common sense in our own position. The motion has amended. [ applause ] 12 28 p. M. , wednesday, march 29th. Brussels, tim barro, he handles the letter over to donald tusk. Hes talking about triggering of article 50 of the treaty finally happening. The letter had been drawn up in the Prime Ministers office. It is deliver confirmed, britain was deadly serious of leaving the eu. Donald tusk sounded unimpressed. There is no reason to pretend this is a happy day. Not in brussels or london. Britains eu membership did not ended but it did represent the end. This is unhistoric moment for which can be no turning back. A few minutes ago in brussels, the United Kingdom handed a letter to the president of the European Council on my behalf to invoke article 50 on the treaty of the European Union. The article 50 process is under way in accordance o f the wishes of the people, the United Kingdom is leaving the European Union. I know this is a day of celebration for some and disappointment for others. The referendum last june was decisive at time. Not everyone shares the same point of view will vote the same way. The arguments on both sides were passionate. Let us together choose to believe in britain with optimism and hope. For r if we do, we can make the most of the opportunities ahead. We can together make a success of this moment. We come together to build a stronger and fairer britain. Well not give this government a free hand to use brexit all create a tax paradise. Let me be clear, mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister says that no deal is better than a bad deal but the reality is no deal is a bad deal. Says that she thinks that brexit will bring unity to the United Kingdom. It will not. On this issue, it is not a United Kingdom, and the Prime Minister needs to respect, respect the differences across the nations of the United Kingdom. I am determined that i will love my children in the eye and be able to say that i did everything to prevent this calamity that the Prime Minister has today chose zblen i wish my right honorable friend good luck and good fortune in her negotiations until she comes to true glory and is welcome back to this house as a 21st century glory honor. I asked ian watson as the mammoth eu negotiations begin were what are the potential risks for the Prime Minister . I think there are huge risks for theresa may. May be a strange thing to say but for the moment her ratings are extremely positive. The party as weve been discussing it about 20 points clear in some falls of the labor opposition. To some extent hpe she may have reached a High Water Mark of the popularity because are the negotiations are only beginning. At the moment its been easy to keep the coalition if youd like that remain as leaders and so on together because shes got a simple message which is that shes carrying out the will of the british people, the 52 that rote voted to leave the union. So far example were she to concede that britain had to pay an exit bill like a divorce settlement with the rest of the european un yn, then 70 or affiliate her own mps are at the moment cheering her to the rafters which start to question whether she should be walking away from the European Union without paying a penny or by paying a smaller sum. So at the moment shes looking unassailable but that phrase was used in politics usually unraflz rather quickly are people are sale able. As if the whole eu negotiations were not enough of a headache, theresa may has an additional problem of a scottish Parliament Vote in favor of holding a second independence referendum north of the border. Do you think its a fact that political change brings bun unintended kons consequences . The liberal democrats are calling for a second reverend um on the eu theyre saying let people see the final deal and then have another vote. In scotland the Scottish National party, the greens are saying lets have a second independence referendum and it looks like ann unintended consequence. To be fair this has been flagged up, the danger has been flagged up for a long time because in their election man test snp said they would call a second referendum if one of two things happened. If a sustained support for independence or secondly if theres a Material Change in circumstances and specified such as scotland being dropped out uh eu against its will. Because thats happened, Scottish Parliament has voted for that second referendum but the decision rests here at westminster. So theyre putting pressure on the conservative government to try and concede that. Thail i think theyll get no chance ever doing that during the brexit negotiations. At what point is that simple aly counterpoint to the snps only idea. This will abe rallying crying for snp supporters ahead of crucial local elections in scotland in may, thats true. But equally think theres a feeling they might have missed a moment if they dont push now. What theyre trying to do is pick up some of the people that voted to stay in the uk in the referendum but now are worried about leefgt European Union. These nor remainers as you like are seeing as a happy Hunting Ground or the snp and if you leave, much beyond brexit perhaps that loet vote will no longer be interested in coming their way. Perhaps by then people might see the details of the brexit dale deal and theyll settle down. They want kpo to exploit this this when they can. I think thats the overwhelming reason for calling this at the moment rather than sixly trying to distract people from what theyve been doing in government. For many, the issue of brexit has been inextricably linked with immigration and that issue has itself been given and added edge. But a site of the thousands of refugees from syria and other war zones making their way to safe hafens across europe. Last year largely thanks to the efforts of this man, the labor pair lord dubs the agreed that they would take in some 3,000 refugees from europe. The home secretary said it was acting to much as an incentive for people to make dangerous sea crossings. The abrupt ending angered mps. There are still so many children in northeastward help. There are thousands in greece, in overcrowded accommodation or in italy still at risk of Human Trafficking in the teenagers in French Centers which are being closed down now and nowhere gloeft. These are children who need looking after over a period. When we accept them here, it not job done. It is making sure that we work with local authorities, that we have the right safeguarding in place. It seems that the government tried to sneak out what they knew would be a very unpopular announcement when they were busy avoiding scrutiny in this case about the brexit deal. Is this the shape of things to come and is this what comes of causing up to President Trump . How did she live with herself leaving thousands of people, leaving thousands and members of pan jeer, how did she live with letter self leaving thousands of children subject to disease, people trafficking, squaller, and hopelessness . She describes how she doubts that the children in france are looked after, but i can say that the right humble lady, the children who are most vulnerable are the ones in the camps out in jordan, out in lebanon. Those are the ones that are really vulnerable and those are the ones that we are determined to bring over here. And all 350 children were accepted into the uk under the dubs scheme. Now, leave or remain, thats very definitely the big issue here at west mincer but im not talking about the eu. Parliament tear ians have to decide whether theyre going to leave this place, the palace of westminster while it will undergoes a massive restoration program. And as no doubt the work is urgently needed. Mates sobry is crumbling, the aging election tricks and plumbing need serious upgrading if the it could take six years. The cost some 3 billion pounds. Mps argued over whether the work could go on around them. Much of our infrastructure is well past, in some cases decades past its life expect sns tensesy zblantd risk of catastrophic failure rises every five years that we delay. We should be in no doubt there will abe fire. There was a fire, a fort night ago, there are regularly fires and people tlol patrol the building 24 hours a day to make sure that we catch these fires. As during the second world war, the house of commons debating chamber should at all times retain a presence in the old palace of westminster instead of building what i would deem to be a folly costing 85 Million Pounds of a represent plik pla ka chamber in the court yard of Richmond House that we should, ased in the war, use the house of laws chamber. But still no timetable has been agreed for parliaments restoration. Now, string is with us and winter is left far behind but adverse wintry conditions left their mark on the supermarket shelves of the nation in february as freezing temperatures gripped the growing areas of the continent. In particular were they disappeared for weekends on end. When the shortage was broult to the house of lords, they said now was the time for british growers to step up to the plate in a very real sense. He will have seen the news reports of empty shelves in supermarkets with the crisis expected to last until the spring and meanwhile prices have trebld in part because it cost more to fly vegetables from the usa and egypt than than it zbo z to bring them over land from spain. I was seeking to be kurt yes, sir, the only shortage will be of iceberg let ais tuesday which we think will be for about a few months and theres a different variety which is even better zblink its only farp we hear from the greens on this particular subject. I produced a report on how to make london more sustainable in its food sfliez and part of that was actually shortening supply chains. How the vegetables in this country are imporntd including native crops like call flowers and onions. Its it time that the governments green paper on food and farming seeks to tackle this decline in homegrown veg. Very much so. I was pleased only this morning to hear that call flowers from corn wall are coming on to the market so we have a great opportunity again to buy some british vegetables. Some food for thought from the appropriate named lord gardner. Thats it for this term. Mps are back straight after Easter Monday so do join us for our weekly round up on bbc parliament.
