He raises a lot of money, not only for this race but the one he was running for county supervisor, and he has really got the backing of most of the powerful democrats in california, nancy pelosi, lois capps, lois capps daughter, who is thought to want to run for her mothers seat, she is backing him, and he has been hit with a lot of attacks from fareed for being a career politician, one way to put the, whereas Justin Fareed does not have a career politics, say comes at it from the angle of i am young, a new kind of republican, and really kind of runs against the dysfunction in congress. Lets talk about the demographics of this Congressional District. North of los angeles, Santa Barbara and san luis obispo, the two largest cities in california 24, who does a favor . It is an interesting district because for a long time, because of gerrymandering, known as the ribbon of shame, the district kind of cut a thin slice from l. A. Ouis scobee spoke to and not goes further inland, so you start off on the coast with liberal cities like Santa Barbara and then you go inland and get to more of the Old Country Club crowd, say get more farmers, ranchers, a significant agricultural the cap economy, which is a larger city been Santa Barbara, and that is producing more republicans, and able maldon auto maldonado was the republican, so it is interesting in that sense, but democrats to have manage among registered voters, they had six point lead over republicans, and it being a president ial year, that alone should favor salute carbajal. I approve this message because i senator bluntsee do this. It points to the 1. 5 million the nra has put the roy blunt and the National Rifle association has spent nearly 1 million to ensure jason kander does not win or any congressional race outside of ohio. Overr, the ira has spent 11 million and roughly 6. 5 lane dollars has been dispersed in support of donald trump and the rest has gone toward congressional contest. They had invested most heavily in the ohio state race between portman and his democratic challenger ted strickland. The nra has spent about julian dollars in support of mr. Portman. President barack obama and Hillary Clinton spoke last night at the annual Congressional Black Caucus dinner in washington. They were joined by representatives marcia and charles wrangle. You do not spend your entire life in Public Service, four years in the army, u. S. Attorneys office, state legislature and 46 years in the party in which i loved serving with the Congressional Black Caucus. [applause] probably is with the president right now, i owe though thebecause problems of people happened over 50 years of marriage, she never and the why not me family and steve and alicia during the years that my passion was for justice, equity and helping those that needed a voice. [applause] and for those who ask, what are , she is at myr grandkids. But the second thing i like to 1971, there were. 3 others by the 435 a lot of people like to think it took a lot of courage for 13 people to stand up but not against joe those, but against president nixon who refuse to meet the recognized as, but that number grew from 13 to 23 to 33 and today it is 46 and tomorrow it looks like it will be close to 50. [applause] with all of our accomplishments. It is not that we were super congresspeople, but we were independent and you that people us. You, who said that for wentould stand up when we to africa, or the we went to cuba, as long as you knew there were people on the list there were there, clearly because we were sons and daughters of slaves, he stood by us, elected us, and allow this to truly believe that we were the conscious of the congress for any injustice that we are. And now that i am leaving the congress, i see even the biggest battles that we ever faced as a people and breaking out of slavery and the civil war, fighting in korea, marching with dr. Martin luther king, and even fighting the republicans, those things that have been able to. Vercome today, my brothers and sisters, i see the greatest battle that we will ever face. Once again, even though you are caucus 48, 50 will be there and be your voices, the question will be in november, where would you be . In november, where will you be . King and you may not have been able to march, but the biggest threat to where we are today is going to be in november, and those who are critical of donald trump that come from the city, i say that he is our contribution to make this republic better because his hatred and his bigotry have pulled the rug often the sheet off of the Republican Party so we all can see it for what it is. [applause] people who really, truly believe onlythe constitution was for european people, people who never thought that the sons and daughters of slaves could be president , people who look at people of color, no matter what color it is, whenever who never say i am a conservative republican, and our brother donald has pulled the sheets off of all of them, that the country and world can see who it is. Guess who is supposed to expect to save this republic . We are. Depending on us they are depending on us to save their public. Once again, we will. [applause] the next phoenix award is the Congressional Black Caucus chairs award, the Foundation Chairs award is presented to an individual whose work and the congressmans stand as of the can of light for the Africanamerican Community and the african diaz for us. Tonight, we honor mr. Robert f. Smith with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Chair award. In lieu of a video presentation, shared reflections will be on mr. Smith. Good evening, again. I am delighted to stand before you to honor a man who has pursued uncharted paths and never turn of his professional and personal journey. , ands been an engineer invented, and entrepreneur, banker, businessmen, investor, and most important way, a leader, mentor and philanthropist. He is perhaps the most successful investor of this generation, and im lucky to call him a friend. Smith is aerick founder, chairman and ceo of these to equity partners. Under his leadership, he manages over 26 billion in Equity Capital and overseas portfolio of 35 companies with 42,000 employees, and if that were not enough, for the second year in a sta was named the worlds number one performing private equity firm in the world. [applause] what is equally extraordinary is that to this day, vista, under leadership, has never lost money under buyout investments. He trained as an engineer at cornell university, and following his mba, he worked at kraft general foods, where he earned to patents and then joined goldman sachs. In 2000, he stuck out to start his own private equity fund, vista equity partners. Everyone thought he was crazy. He had no private equity experience, and the idea of focusing on Enterprise Software exclusively, robert said that to become what would be the equivalent of the sixthlargest Software Company in the world. [applause] roberts leadership and philanthropy also breaks new barriers. The Smithsonian National museum of African American history culture is opening next week. [applause] what some of you may not know is the museum is announcing on monday a gift of 20 million from robert smith, [applause] that is the largest personal donations to the museum. Profits philanthropy is always more than writing a check. His support will enable the digitization of our most precious Cultural Assets and also establish the roberts frederick smiths explore your family center, which will ensure that our museum remains a living museum, capture not only the lives of the famous, but also the lives of every africanamerican family, so that museum will be enriched with all of our stories, no matter who we are. [applause] roberts, no matter how successful he has become, he has never forgotten where he came from. In fact, what has been most inspiring is his humility. Cbcf, weustom for the their video, highlighting careers and the comp, so two days ago, we sent it over to robert and robert did not want to play it. He did not want to tell the story of the business accomplishments, including being named the richest africanamerican on the planet. [applause] wherever he goes, he carries his what ismusic and meaningful to robert and all of us, when earlier this summer, he was named chairman of the board of carnegie hall. [applause] throughout his life, robert has engaged in numerous charitable activities that are focused on africanamericans and women. 5000 innercity kids at his ranch over summer and fostered college aged kids with no home or place to go during winter break. More recently, he has played a leading role in foundations, unitedas provided the Negro College fund with the largest ever investment in Stem Education for African Americans. [applause] that contribution will offer thousands upon thousands of an africanamericans the opportunity and the skills to prepare for jobs of tomorrow. The Foundation Also recently made a grants worth 27 my in dollars to the susan g. Komen organization to ensure that where someone lives does not determine whether they live. [applause] giving new hope and new life, this 12 City Initiative will fight the statistics that are mothers, wives, and, sisters and daughters are 40 more likely than white women to die from the disease. Rather than share a list of roberts awards, recognitions and accomplishments, i could share one more story that i think will help you understand the kind of man he is and why we are recognizing him this evening. When robert hurt that 43 of the other girls in nigeria, who had been kidnapped by boko haram, had escaped, he was stunned to of the papere c24 and decided to do something about it. Robert contacted the president of the American University of nigeria and quietly went about funding their education, committing to provide the same Financial Support for every girl who would escape in the future and seek an education. [applause] robert has done all of this without fanfare and without expectation. This is exactly the kind of leadership we need today. Robert smith brings great passion, generosity, humility, and dedication to improve the lives of all of us in the world in the world around us. I am thrilled to present the chairmans award of the Congressional Black Caucus foundation to Robert Frederick smith. Inase, stand and join me giving him a well deserved round of applause. Ladies and gentlemen, please, welcome robert f. Smith. Also joining, board members, congresswoman and board device chair, Sheila Jackson lee, tonya and lonnie johnson. Thank you for that very warm introduction. And secretary clinton, it is an honor to be here to accept this award. When i told my mother, who is from washington, d. C. , about receiving this wonderful award, she, as most mothers do, who else will be there . I told her and she said, huh, and i said president obama will speak to it she said, well, do not take too much time because people really want to hear what he has to say. [laughter] with that, im going to ambitiously take you back to the. Ime of my birth in a few short minutes, i will tell you a little bit about who i am, what we do and why i am here. I grew up in denver, for generation colorado native. In 1963, my mother, i was nine months old, my mother took my brother and i to washington, d. C. , answering the call of dr. She, and im assuming thought that the closer we were, the more it might sink in, and she knew that her boys were too young to remember all that was said that day, but she believed that the history that we witnessed that day were dollars be part of the men who would be would become winded. Decades later, i had the privilege to take my grandfather on another journey on the opposite side of the National Mall to celebrate president obamas inauguration. [applause] as you all remember was a cold day and as my grandfather and i shivered together, he kept the two of us warm by telling these stories about his time as a young man living in washington, d. C. , and in the lounge, where it he checked hats and coats and poured coffee and tea for senators and their guest. He told me that he managed to take a sneak out the window on the day of president roosevelts swearing in and he said, you know, grandson, out of all those people, i did not see a single black face in that white sea of sea of people. It was not lost on either of us that my grandfather could return to the capital after all those years, not as a coat checker, but as a personal best personal guest for the essentials of our first africanamerican president. [applause] as we all know, there is an obvious sentiment to the fight, Bc Foundation dinner, we will show it president obama, and this is in the evening to celebrate, but lets not choose to make this night about the past and what we have already accomplished and even though the president s term is coming to an end, the distinguished members of congress tonight are not going anywhere, and they will continue to be more steps to climb up the mountaintop and the path has become steeper and more slick and thrown to the backsliding, and we must support each other more resolutely as we ascend together. Frankly, i am here tonight because of what you in this room. Ad done for me and for us your voices, john lewis, elijah cummings, charles wrangle and so many others, past and present, have been our hope and reminder of the dignity and potential of Public Service. The late and great congresswoman Barbara Jordan, who hails from my current term town of austin, texas, said, what the people want is very simple. They went in america as good as promised. Do not call for green power or black power, copper brainpower. [applause] call for brainpower. [applause] for the first time in history, what can be created without having massive amounts of thetal handed down, ownership of people, land or natural resources. For the first time in history, wealth can be created through the power of ones mind, thoughts, ideas, and it can be developed and monetized and distributed instantly a cost the globe. Intellectual property has become the new currency of business. [applause] of brainpower to move individuals and families and communities from poverty to prosperity has never been closer and within our grasp. Despite this progress, too many of our communities are being left behind, but i refuse to accept this. Now, more than ever, the power to move individuals and families out of poverty and into the mainstream of thing mainstream of our economy is within our reach. This is our defining moments, and it is a defining moment for our community, but it takes all of us, people like me, educators, legislators like you, and Community Leaders to unleash the minds of our young people. Last month when i was in baltimore, i was with them adults and some are homeless, some are veterans, all empowered by the Technical Skills training and the 3d printer we delivered so they can imagine a Brighter Future and make it and rabbit for their own. Their backsave because one thing i know firsthand is this we need to have their backs, because one thing i know is this. If we they will perform. I see it happen constantly. If we do this locally, we can change our neighborhood. If we do it at scale, we can change our nation. Weekny of you know one from today we will begat a ring again for the opening of the National Museum of African American history and culture at the smithsonian. [applause] thisrilliant architect of museum described the africanamerican story as an extraordinary journey of overcoming and shaping what america is. My story, its our president s story, and its your store. If us being here tonight tells that the arkit is of the moral universe doesnt deed the end toward justice. But it does but it doesnt happen by natural law or gravitational law. Is not a given, and it is not a guarantee. It happened because leaders like you put your shoulder to it. You dont let up, and you go after it each and every day. And for this, i thank you. [applause] our next award is entitled the Congressional Black Caucus chairs award. This is presented each year to an individual who shows the highest levels of creativity and [reading nominee names] june 17, 2015. [reading victim names] june 17, 2015. The historic emmanuel of his cabal church, the Oldest Church in the nation is respectfully known as mother emmanuel and it was the site of this horrific thick act of hate. And the parade and will forever feel the loss of their presence. Yet our purpose this evening is to celebrate their lives, to celebrate how the spirits of those nine individuals caused the community of charleston to come together in forgiveness, love, unity, rather than respond in violence. We uplift the survivors and their families and friends. We choose to act in a way they knew their loved ones would have wanted. Families of the slain surprised many by immediately offering their forgiveness to the perpetrator of this heinous act. Communities of all ethnicities rallied behind this act of Christian Faith and held a vigils, fundraisers, and a mass unity rally on the ridge. Tens of thousands Community Members crossed from one side of the bridge to the downtown displayingside, supportive signs and flags. A senseless hate filled crime and a devastating loss has turned into an opportunity to communityengthening bonds, and lean on faith in the face of an unspeakable spiritual challenge. Tonight we honor the emmanuel nine and their survivors with the Congressional Black Caucus chairperson award. [applause] please welcome to the stage, the family members of the emmanuel nine. [applause] we accept the award on behalf of the families. Will it the award on behalf of the families will accept the award on behalf of the families. [applause] good afternoon. 2015 is a day that around many people the world. Many want to know why . Horrific such a event happen . This they shattered the lives of nine families, five survivors, one nation. It will forever and always be etched in our brains. Nine f of the manual of the emmanuel nine comeau we want to say thank you. In a time when the country seen more unjustified killings from , weican born terrorists need your help. For justice and reconciliation that can only come when communication is affective and equity is available. Vote faithay has enabled these families to overcome great loss. Without work but senate,call on the u. S. The u. S. House of representatives, every governor and every state legislate to her every lay loot everys legislature to bring peace, justice, and reconciliation to all people. Since the emmanuel nine devastation we are surviving through the grace of god. The support, love and encouragement of family members, friends, and people around the world. This has enabled us to be able to survive great loss, tremendous pain, and yes, even overcome anger. We come even though a year has we, even though a year passed, we are still lovedng the loss of our ones. Once again we graciously thank the cbc for this honor. This award was instituted in 2003 to honor a woman who has in providing extraordinary contributions as a public servant. Goes tors award representative marcia fudge. Ohios 11thng Congressional District is a triple threat. Representative marja apresentative marcia fudge is leader. She has served the people of ohio for more than two decades as a member of congress and a and as the first black and female mayor of heights. Representative thought his unwavering in her commitment to improving the Public School systems in ohio and across the country. She provides all of the schools in every community. As a Ranking Member of the house subcommittee on early childhood, elementary, and really set and secondary education, she fought for Academic Resources and School Districts as part of , and asreauthorization an advocate for providing access to fresh food through the farm to school act. Fudge has won the respect of barack obama for being a strident advocate for voter protections, and continuing the fight to provide social security, medicare, and medicaid. That just a past president of the congressional caucus, she is traveling the nation, using her voice to get communities of color to register to vote in this allimportant election. In july representative fudge was selected by secretary Hillary Clinton to serve as the permanent chair for the 2016 Democratic National convention. The Congressional Black Caucus is honored to present the Barbara Jordan toward jordan award for women who have excelled for providing extraordinary contribution to Public Service to ohio foresentative marcia fudge her leadership and more than two decades of service to the people of ohio and to the nation. Let me just say i love Eddie Bernice johnson. I love every member of the Congressional Black Caucus and i and them for their encouragement and their friendship. This award is special for many amongs, but just a few them is that it is really special to be honored by your peers and your colleagues. It is special because i have had the opportunity to be blessed to know Barbara Jordan. Through our sorority we sat on the delta board together. [applause] she was one of my idols. As a young lawyer i aspire to be Barbara Jordan. She was smart, she was passionate, she was dedicated, and she was the real deal. Enough for theou confidence you have placed in me. And to think that with just 124 days to go under the wire we got that resolved. That is a boost for me in the home stretch. [laughter] [applause] in other breaking news, the world is round, not flat. [laughter] pres. Obama this is of course my last cbc dinner as president. The next time i show up, i have to buy a ticket. [laughter] pres. Obama dont get me wrong though, we still have so much work to do, and we are sprinting all the way through, but the days are winding down. I have noticed that whenever michelle or i travel around the country, folks come up and say, we are so sad to see you go, and i really appreciate that. And michelle says, thats right. [laughter] pres. Obama she gave a speech yesterday, bunch of young people were chanting four more years and she said, nope. Nope. Shes ready. [laughter] pres. Obama but we do want to take this opportunity to say thank you, to say thank you for your support over the years, to say thank you for your friendship, to say thank you for your prayers. As i just look across this auditorium, there is so many people here who lifted us up and studied us when things got tough. When we begin this journey coming on 10 years now, we said, this was not about us. It wasnt about me, michelle, it wasnt just to be a black president or the president of black america. We understood the power of the symbol. We know what it means for a generation of children to see folks like us in the white house. And as michelle says, we have tried to be role models for all children because we know they watch everything we do as adults. So, we have taken the responsibility seriously. I have been blessed to have a partner on this journey who makes it look so easy. And is so strong and honest and beautiful and smart. But we heard just thankful because you guys have lifted us up every step of the way. We know, however, that what matters most for our community is not just the simple, not just an africanamerican president. A president who is going to do his or her darndest to fight the right fights. Together, we fought our way back from the worst recession in 80 years, turned an economy that was in a freefall, helped our businesses create new jobs. We declared that health care is not a privilege for a few but a right for everybody. Secured coverage for another 20 million americans including another 3 million africanamericans. Our High School Graduation rate is at an alltime high including africanamerican students. More africanamericans are graduating from college than ever before. We have begun to work on reforming our criminal justices , reducing the federal prison population, and in the use of solitary confinement for juveniles, then it the box for federal employers, reinvigorating the civil rights division, pushing to make sure that communities and police are working together to make sure our streets are safe and that our laws are applied equally. We are giving opportunities for kids that they do not get in the criminal Justice System in the first place and i would like to thank all of you who helped us reach communities across the country. We learned that last year across every race and age group in america, income rose and poverty fell compared physical Household Poverty fell. Folks physical Household Incomes grew at the fastest growth rate on record, lifted 3. 5 Million People out of poverty including one million children, the largest drop in 50 years. By so many measures, our country is stronger and more prosperous than it was eight years ago. None of it has been quick or easy. None of it has come without a fight. So much of our work remains unfinished. We knew that we would not solve our challenges in one turn or even one presidency, not even in one lifetime compared we one lifetime. Because we understand better than anybody that this is the story of america, that the project of america is never finished. It is constantly a work in progress and what has always made is unique is our capacity to change. Our conviction that change does butcome from some ruler, comes from the bottom up from us whether it is women seeking the right to vote or john lewis meeting leading a march in selma we do our part to slowly steadily make our reunion a our union a little bit more perfect. We know that. That is what we have done for eight years. And now that is what we have to keep on doing. You may have heard hillarys opponent in this election say there hasnt been a worse time to be a black lesson. Be a black person. [laughter] pres. Obama he missed that whole civics lesson about slavery and jim crow. [laughter] pres. Obama but we got a museum for him to visit, so he can turn [cheers and applause]. Pres. Obama we will educate him. [cheers] pres. Obama he says, weve got nothing left to lose, so we might as well support somebody who hasnt fought against civil rights and fought against equality and who has shown no regard for working people for most of his life. While we do have challenges, but we are not stupid. [cheers and applause] pres. Obama we know the progress we have made despite the forces of opposition, despite the forces of discrimination, despite the politics of backlash. We intend to keep fighting against those forces. When governors refused to expand medicaid, it hits the folks most in need. We will fight. When folks block and increase the minimum wage or refuse to expand paid family leave or will not guarantee equal pay, hurting the pockets of every family, we will fight. When we are not investing in the schools that our kids deserve, when my Group Americans when one Group Americans is treated differently under the law, when there are those who somehow think it is wrong to make sure that folks have access to Affordable Housing lawyer on unwilling to are do what it takes to make sure our veterans the benefits that they have earned or arent helping to sign folks up for health insurance, we will not stop our march for justice. We will not stop pushing for the security and prosperity of all people. That doesnt stop with my presidency. We are just getting started. [applause] pres. Obama and when people when, across this country in 2016, there are those who were still trying to deny people the right to vote. We have got to push back twice as hard. In multiple states republicans are actively and openly trying to prevent people from voting, adding barriers to registration, cutting early voting, closing polling places in predominately minority communities, refusing to send absentee ballots, kicking people off of the roles incorrectly. This should be a national scandal. We were supposed to have already won that fight. Were the only advanced democracy that has actively discouraged people from voting. It is a shame. And then a try to justify it by telling us that voter fraud is rampant. Between 20002012 there were 10 cases of voter impersonation nationwide. People do not get up and say, im going to impersonate somebody and go vote. They dont do that. Meanwhile, some of the same folks who were trying to keep you from voting turn a blind eye to thousands of people who were killed by guns, imposing the voter identification restriction so that a gun license can get you on the ballot but a student id cant. We are more afraid of a ballot then a bullet. Our work is not done. If we are going to advance the cause of justice and equality and prosperity and freedom, then we also have to acknowledge that even if we eliminated every restriction on voting, we would still have one of the lowest voting rates among free people and that is not good. That is on us. I am reminded of all of the folks who had to count bubbles in a bar of soap. It beats tried to register voters in mississippi, risked everything so that they can pull that leverage. So, if i hear anybody say that their vote doesnt matter, then it doesnt matter who we elect. Read up on your history. It matters. We have got to get people to vote. [applause] pres. Obama in fact, if you want to give michele and me a sendoff, do not just watch us walking into the sunset, get people registered to vote. If you care about our legacy, realize everything we stand for is at stake, all the progress we have made is at stake in this election. There is one candidate who will advance those things and there is another candidate whose defining principle, the central theme of his candidacy is opposition to all that we have done. After we have achieved historic turnout in 2008 and 2012 in the Africanamerican Community, i would consider it an insult to my legacy if this community lets down its scarred and fails to activate itself in this election. A few days ago, michelle and my motherinlaw and the girls and i, we got an early look at the new Smithsonian National museum of African American history and culture. [applause] we looked at the shackles that were used to bring folks over. We saw the shacks slaves have been trying to make a way out of no way. Indent, with each successive level, we saw unimaginable courage and struggles and the sacrifice and the humor and the innovation and the hope that led to such extraordinary progress even in our lifetimes. And it made us proud, not because we had arrived but because, what a road we have had to travel. What a miracle that despite such hardship, we have been able to do so much. And i know everybody in this room understands that progress is not inevitable. Its sustainment depends on us. It is not just a matter of having a black president or first lady, it is a matter of engaging all of our citizens in the work of our democracy. It was that slave who said, you know what . Despite the risk of the lash, i am going to learn how to read. It is Harriet Tubman saying, despite the risk to my life, i am going to free my people. Its Sammy Lou Hamer saying despite the ostracism, the blowback, i am going to sit down and here in this Convention Hall and im going to tell people what it is like to live the life i am living. Im going to testify to why change needs to come. Its a Young John Lewis saying, i am going to march despite those horses i see in front of me. All of those ordinary people, all of those folks whose names arent in history books, providing a tribute to them. That is why we are here. That is how progress is sustained. And then it is a matter of electing people to office who understand that story, who feel it in their hearts, in their guts, and understand that government cannot solve all of our problems but it can be a force for good. To experience this Incredible Museum is to be reminded, we are just a small part of a long journey. Generation after generation, striving against the odds. What an inspiration they are. The truth of the matter is, as i stand before you today, not only are we in the midst of the weakest economic recovery since the great depression, but were we also have an economy that in the last quarter only grew by 1. 1 . We have the lowest Labor Participation rate since the 1970s and most heartbreaking of all, from 7 1 2 years ago to today, theres nearly seven million more americans living in poverty than there were in 2009. You know, for all the world, these days remind many of us of the 1970s. Then as now we had one candidate who spoke of a National Malaise and of accepting a status quo. And then there was another candidate who spoke with confidence of a boundless american future and the American People chose that optimistic future and i believe they will again. [applause] the other party tells us this is the best that we can do. That the American People know better. It is nowhere near the best we can do. It is the best they can do. When donald trump becomes president of the United States of america, we will get this economy moving again for every city and every town and every state in the nation. Were leading in ohio and were leading just i think it just came out, were leading in north carolina, florida, were leading and were having a lot of fun. Were having a lot of fun on the campaign. And on the trail. I just wanted to say that its always a lot of fun when you come up and the people dont have the teleprompter working, but thats ok. [laughter] lucky i brought some notes. Today i do want to outline a plan more American Economic revival. Its a bold and ambitious and forwardlooking plan to massively increase jobs, wages, income and opportunities for the people of our country. Great people of our country. I will tell you. My plan will embrace the truth that people flourish under a minimum government burden and will tap into the incredible unrealized potential of our workers and their dreams. Right now 92 million americans are on the sideline outside of the work force and theyre not a part of our economy. Its a silent nation of jobless americans. And look no further, and i mean no further, all you have to do is look at flint, where i spent a lot of time, the city of flint. And what a disaster has taken place. The jobs have been stripped from the community and its infrastructure has totally collapsed. In 1970 there were more than 80,000 people in flint working for general motors. Today its less than 8,000. We have 8,000 people and thats going down. And theyre making very, very little, and people are trying to go down to that ,000 mark. That 8,000 mark. What were doing is ford, ford has announced just yesterday that theyre moving their small car production facilities to mexico. And ive been talking about this a long while and i think thats maybe one of the reasons that were doing so well in ohio and michigan and lots of other places where cars and parts are involved. To think that ford is moving its small car division is a disgrace. Its disgraceful. Disgraceful that our politicians allow them to get away with it. [applause] really is. It used to be cars were made in flint and you couldnt drink the water in mexico. Now cars are made in mexico and you cant drink the water in flint. [applause] were going to turn this around my economic plan rejects the cynicism that says our labor force will keep declining, that our jobs will keep leaving. And that our economy can never grow as it did once before. And boy, oh, boy, did it used to grow. We reject the pessimism that says our standard of living can no longer rise and thats all there is really left to divide because frankly were looking at an economy now of no growth and redistribution of wealth. And thats not going to work. Everything that is broken today can be fixed and every failure can be turned into a truly great success. Just look at the way i just melded into the teleprompter that just went on. [laughter] who else could have pulled that off, ok, who else. [applause] jobs can stop leaving our country and they will just absolutely start pouring in. Failing schools can become flourishing schools. Crumbling roads and bridges can become gleaming new infrastructure. Inner cities can experience a flood of new jobs and investment and rising crime can give way to safe and prosperous communities. All of these things and so much more are possible. But to accomplish them we must replace the present policy of globalism, which has taken so many jobs out of our communities, and so much wealth out of our country and replace it with a new policy of americanism. [applause] america first. Remember that. [applause] understand this american system, every policy decision we make must pass a simple test. Does it create more jobs and better wages for americans . The test. If we lower our taxes, remove destructive regulations and we have to do that, unleash the vast treasure of American Energy and negotiate trade deals that put america first, then there is no limit to the number of jobs we can create and the amount of prosperity we can unleash. America will truly be the greatest place in the world to invest, hire, grow and to create new jobs, new technologies, and entire new industry. Instead thank you. [applause] instead of driving jobs and wealth away, america will become the worlds great magnet for innovation and job creation. My opponents plan rejects this optimism. She offers only more taxing and her tax increases are unbelievable. More regulating. More spending. And more wealth redistribution. A future of slow growth, declining incomes and dwindling prosperity. The only people who get rich under Hillary Clinton are the donors of the special interests. But bad for our country. And Hillary Clintons america, we have surrendered our status as the worlds great economy. And we have surrendered our middle class to the whims of foreign countries. We take care of them better than we take care of ourselves. Not one single idea shes got will create one net american job or create one new dollar of american wealth for our workers. The only thing she can offer is a welfare check. Thats about it. Our plan will produce paychecks and theyre going to be great paychecks for millions of people now unemployed or underemployed. In the course of this campaign, ive traveled all across the country and ive met the most amazing people. Every day ive seen the good the goodness and character of our country and brave citizens proudly fighting through hard times and difficult circumstances. I have been all over this country, folks, and we have unbelievable people, but they need leadership. The country needs leadership. In many parts of our country, the hard times never seem to end. I visited cities and towns in upstate new york where half of the jobs have left and moved to mexico and other countries. The businesses are gone, theyve been taken away, like taking candy from a baby. Politicians have abandoned these places all over the country and the people who live there are just there. No hope. Worse still, politicians have heaped scorn and disdain on these wonderful americans. My opponent described tens of millions of american citizens as deplorable and irredeemable just last week. So how can Hillary Clinton seek to lead this country when she considers its citizens, tremendous, tremendous numbers of them, beyond redemption . The hardworking people she calls deplorable are the most admirable people i know. Theyre cops. [applause] and soldiers. Teachers and firefighters. Young and old. Moms and dads. Blacks and whites. Latinos. Above everything else, theyre americans. Some are rich americans, some are poor americans. Theyre americans. They love their families. They love their country. And they want a better future. These are the forgotten men and women of our country and they have been forgotten. People who work hard but dont have a voice. Im running to be their voice. \[applause] mr. Trump and to bring prosperity to every part of this country. Too many of our leaders have forgotten it is their duty to protect the jobs, wages and wellbeing of American Workers before any consideration. We have to do that. Im not running to be the president of the world. Im running to be the president of the United States of america. [applause] and as your president , i will fight for every last american job and every american company, which really a lot of companies in this room, i can tell you. We are going to be fighting for you. [applause] you are bringing the jobs. We are a nation that paved the way, dug out the panama canal and won two world wars and put a man on the moon. Its time to start thinking big once again. Thats why i believe its time to establish a National Goal of reaching 4 Economic Growth. [applause] and my great economists dont want me to say this, but i think we can do better than that. Theyre upset, will be very upset. But i think we can substantial do substantially better than that. In working with my Economic Team we put together a plan to put us on track to achieve that goal. Over the next 10 years, under our plan, the economy will average. 5 growth and create a 3. 5 growth and create a total of 25 million new jobs. You can visit our website. Just look at the math. It works. [applause] this growth means that our jobs and plans, including our child care reform that ivanka trump, my daughter, is so involved in, will be complete i like her too. Will be completely paid for in combination with proposed budget savings. It will be deficit neutral. If we reach 4 growth, it will reduce the deficit. It will be accomplished through a complete overhaul of our tax, regulatory, energy and trade policies. [applause] right now, under the obamaclinton policies, the economy grew only 1. 1 last quarter a number that was shocking to people that do this professionally and for life. It translates into millions of lost jobs and certainly millions of lost good jobs because we dont have good jobs anymore. Those jobs are gone and going. This is the weakest socalled recovery since the great depression. Over the last seven years, the economy grew only 2. 1 , the slowest period in 70 years. Had the economy grown at the same rate as reagan, it would have meant 10 million more jobs. Perhaps most shockingly, one in six men aged 18 to 34 are either in jail or out of work. Meanwhile, another two million hispanic americans have been added to the ranks of those in poverty. On top of it all, the obamaclinton policy has doubled the national debt. It took more than 230 years for the United States to accumulate its first 10 trillion in debt. It took president obama less than eight years to add another 10 trillion. Now, it will be one thing if that money had been used to completely rebuild our nation, our military, our infrastructure, but that didnt happen. Instead, the opposite happened. We doubled our debt and in return, we have dilapidated infrastructure, failing schools, a badly depleted military, greatest people on earth and they have a badly depleted military, its equipment, old and tired. And another 14 Million People who have left the work force. Never has so much money been spent so poorly and so unwisely. But we are going to turn that all around and heres how. It begins with bold new tax reform. [applause] dont worry, theyre going down, not up. Theyre going down. You were concerned they were going up. As outlined in detroit, our tax plan will greatly simplify the code and reduce the number of brackets from seven to three. The new brackets will be 12 , 25 , and 33 . Low income americans will pay no income tax at all. In fact, our plan will remove millions and millions of workers from the income tax roll entirely so that all of that work that we do in washington can be discontinued. Theyll pay tax, theyll pay tax but theyll pay tax when they start making a certain amount of income. By lowering rates, streamlining deductions and simplifying the process, we will add millions and millions of new jobs. In addition, because we have strongly capped deductions for the wealthy and closed special interest loopholes, the tax relief will be concentrated on the working and middle class taxpayer. They will receive the biggest benefit and it wont even been close. They have been forgotten. We are not going to forget them. They have built our country. We will not forget. Thank you. [applause] this is a working and middle class tax relief proposal. The tax relief for these workers will be expanded by my child care proposals that i have worked on with my daughter ivanka. These proposals are central and are very, very powerful central element of our comprehensive tax reform and Economic Growth plan. Families will be able to fully deduct the average cost of child care from their taxes, including stayathome parents. Because the deduction is capped, it will be disproportionately and it will benefit working and middle class families. Got to take care of our middle class families. The less you make, the larger the share of your income you can exclude from taxation. Parents will also be able to enroll in a taxfree dependent care savings account for their children or elderly relatives. Low income households will benefit from both an expanded earned income tax credit in the form of child care rebates and a matching 500 contribution for their savings account. A married couple earning 50,000 per year with two children and 8,000 in child care expenses will save 35 from their current tax bill. Thats a tremendous savings. \[applause] and theyll have a better life. A married couple earning 75,000 per year with two children and 10,000 in child care, expenses will receive a 30 reduction in their tax bill from what they are paying right now. By contrast, someone earning 5 million, like the people in this room, will receive virtually no change in their tax bill at all. One of our greatest job creation measures is going to be our 15 business tax rate, down from the current 35 rate, a reduction of more than 40 . [applause] i know thats what you people have been waiting for. An explosion of new businesses and new jobs will be created. It will be amazing to watch. You watch and it will happen. We will also allow United Statesbased manufacturers to fully expense the cost of new plants and equipment. Big, big deal. [applause] on top of that, we will bring back trillions in business wealth and this is wealth that costs overseas, nobody knows how much it is. They say its 2. 5 trillion. I have people who think its 5 trillion. Well bring them back and itll be taxed only at the rate of 10 instead of 35 . Who would bring it back at 35 . Obviously nobody because nobody is doing it. I think its going to be something that will be so phenomenal, far beyond what people even think. By taxing it at 10 instead of 35 , all of this money will come roaring back into our country and lots of good things will start to happen. We will turn america into a new magnet with new jobs and that means jobs in our poorest communities. So important. And right now, we have companies leaving the country because taxes are too high, but we actually have companies leaving the country to get their money. Thats a first. Nobody has ever heard of that one before but believe me thats happened. Next comes regulation. We have to scale back years disastrous regulations, unilaterally imposed by out of control bureaucrats. Regulations have grown into a massive jobkilling industry and the regulation industry is one business i will absolutely put to an end day one. [applause] in 2015 alone, federal agencies issued over 3,300 final rules and regulations, up from 2,400 the prior year. Every year, overregulation costs our economy 2 trillion a year and reduces Household Wealth by almost 15,000. I propose a moratorium on new federal regulations that are not compelled by congress or public safety. And i will eliminate all needless and jobkilling regulations on the books, and there are plenty of them. [applause] this includes eliminating some of our most intrusive regulations, like the watt orse the u. S. Rule, and it means scrapping the e. P. A. s socalled clean power plan, which the government itself estimates will cost 7. 2 billion a year. This obamaclinton directive will shut down most if not all coalpowered electricity plants. All over the country, they are shutting down. Remember what Hillary Clinton said. She wants to shut down the miners, just like she wants to shut down the steel mills and steelworkers and were not going to let that happen. [applause] were going to put our great miners and steelworkers back to work. Energy reform is central to our plan as well. According to heritage foundation, by 2030, president obamas Energy Restrictions will eliminate half a Million Manufacturing jobs, reduce economic output by 2. 5 trillion and reduce incomes by 7,000 per person. And today, you have workers, and i see them all the time and i meet them all the time and they are part of this Massive Group of people that have just come on to this movement. But you have workers making less money today than they made 18 years ago in real wages.
