to what can you tell us about reports of divides between centrists in the left at that party retreat? guest: i think we were united. people with various information to help provide us on where things have been with the election, where we are headed. i think it's important we have vigorous debate and talk about issues and that's what we've in doing. we have a diverse caucus but a united caucus. and to do to work together to make sure we build a strong economy, make sure there's opportunities for everyone but also stop some of the very concerning actions this administration has taken on issues like a immigration. continuing to build and strengthen our voices across the country. host: you are vice chair of the new democratic coalition. guest: the new democratic coalition is about 54 members of the democratic caucus. democratsinking focused on building a strong and stable economy and making sure we have opportunities for everyone in our country. host: when you look ahead to the 2018 election are you most concerned about the bernie sanders supporter who stayed home and did not vote for hillary clinton with a lifelong democrat who decided they're going to vote for donald trump this time around? guest: i'm concerned about making sure we have a government that's working at it i represent a swing district where we have urban areas, rural areas, farmers, technology. folks want to make sure we are working together in getting things done and prioritizing issues. that's what the great frustration is. there has been not only partisanship but right now obstruction. we see a majority that's not moving legislation that has not had any ideas. we're really focused on making sure we provide solutions and ideas and help move our country forward. host: when you prioritize those issues, are they on the same page as nancy pelosi and house democratic leadership? guest: we want to ensure we provide proposals and ideas to them a credit card is can work future issues like the of work and cyber security and housing and tax reform and that is something we can all get behind and help move our country forward. host: congresswoman susan delbene is with us. if you want to call in, ask questions, republicans can call in at (202) 748-8001. democrats, (202) 748-8000. ts, (202) 748-8002. want to talk about the dnc chairman's race. have you back a candidate? what is your take? this again is a good opportunity for democrats to come together to debate issues to talk about the needs that we have seen across the country. it we're going to have a lot of folks weigh in and we will be part of the election for the dnc chair. that is something that is happening at the grassroots level across the country. host: what are some examples of where democrats have benefited from seeing this debate between different parts of the democratic party? guest: i'm always a supporter of having debate. i think you learn things when you talk about -- when you talk to people who do not always agree with you. i think that is a healthy thing that's happening across the country. people are coming together discussing ideas. the fact that we have so many candidates who are interested in being dnc chair and sharing their ideas and views i think is a healthy thing. i'm excited that we have that conversation happening. a lot of strong candidates. nexttle over a week to our dnc chair will be. host: if you have a list of priorities for that debate for when they meet next week, what are the three key things the next chairman needs to do to see democrats winning again in the house and senate and the white house? i think we guest: need to understand the issues that district right mind space. a lot of folks in rural communities who are looking for economic opportunities. we need to understand what that economic agenda is across the country. we need to continue to support equality and make sure we have inclusiveness across our country. big issues like immigration reform that need to be addressed. huge opportunities for us across the country to provide visibility. an administration that has been and confusion and i think people are looking for true leadership. host: some callers would say it is not confusion it is donald trump following through on campaign promises he made. guest: i think donald trump made a promise he was a businessman who knew had a lead. he is shown nothing about leadership. leadership is about providing vision, plan, execute against the plan, hiring a great team. we have seen chaos, confusion, lack of communication. he's been anything but a leader for our country. we need someone who can lead our country. this is too important. host: 20 minutes left with congresswoman delbene. jeff, good morning. caller: good morning. -- doo you think about you think the president got information on flynn two weeks before it was leaked? lost theink we election because of the polls coming out telling everyone that we were going to win no matter what and people did not go on and vote? guest: i think with respect to michael flynn, i think it is important that he resigned. i think it's important that we have a full investigation into what happened and i would hope that that is a bipartisan effort . we absolutely need to understand all the connections. what's happened not only during the campaign but also what's happened since the president has taken office. the is something i hope house and the senate both look into deeply so we understand throughout this cycle what happened during the election. we know there have been great concerns about what the russians were trying to do to impact our elections. concerns about continuing contacts between folks on the as withmpaign as well michael foot and in terms of those contacts with russian government. we need an investigation. i hope that is something we take up right away. host: is it the polls fault that democrats lost in the selection? guest: these are individual decisions that people make. a piece of information. they are not the piece of information. host: what is the right? piece of attrition to look at guest: everything. people need to talk to different communities here their feedback. diverse communities across the country. all of those things are important data points but really it's about talking to people and talking to people throughout our country and understanding the different issues. i think that is something that is critical if you want to have some of the best data possible about what people are thinking. host: do democrats have time to do that before the 2018 election? guest: absolutely. we have time to talk to people, folkstinue to engage with who might have voted for president trump and understand their issues. those conversations have been happening. host: charles is a democrat. good morning. i wanted to say something about the fact that the democrats are turning us against them. i voted democrat all my life. turning me against them because of the way they were acting. my son and daughter have been democrats but they are the same way. they need to accept our president and give him a chance to work and get this thing a .hance i'm afraid when the next election comes up we going to lose a lot of the democrats. people going to the republican side because of the way there acting toward trump good trump is our president. we may not agree with everything he does. you've got to get behind the president once he's in office. i've been taught since i was a small child that you respect the president. you go along with it. give him a chance to prove himself. him everybeen against .ay since he started running guest: it's important that we have leadership. it starts with the president that is inclusive. one of the things that's been disappointing from this president has been he has not shown respect for all americans. , it has he has made made hateful and divisive cots
