He knew that they were armed and dangerous and he knew that they were going to the capitol. It is important to understand the length the president was willing to go to be at the capitol as it was part of his strategy to stay in power. Mr. Trump knew this. The secret service had told him about it this morning that morning. Despite these warnings, the president said this before he took the stage. He wanted it and he was angry we were not letting people through with weapons. What the secret service deemed as weapons. In the vicinity of the conversation i overheard the president say i do not care that they have weapons. They are not here to hurt me, take that away. Let my people 80, they can march the capitol from here. Let my people in, they can march the capitol from here. Donald trump asked them to have as people at the rally site. Tens people would be allowed, we want to thank you and the police and Law Enforcement, you are doing a great job. I would love it if they could be allowed to come up here with us. Is that possible . Can you just let them come up, please . He told his supporters to march to the capitol. Let us pause to consider President Trumps state of mind. His motivation at this moment. It was known that the secret service knew that these people are armed and Donald Trump New what he was going to do. Sending an angry mob, a number of who were clad in Tactical Gear and armed to the capitol. There is no scenario where that action is benign. No scenario where a president should engage in that conduct. It did not matter if you believe the election had been installed or not, this cannot be justified on any basis for any reason. You may also recall testimony from our summer hearings regarding mr. Trumps efforts to lead the mob to the capitol himself and the every altercation in the residential suv with a secret service individual who told him it was far too dangerous for him to go. As we detail from testimony from the default and police and white house personnel during our 21st hearing, the altercation was widely known. 104 when i simply explained that this information was in fact water cooler talk in the white house complex. He knew before 2 00 p. M. That a violent riot was underway at the capitol. He was aware of the ongoing lawlessness. His motorcade was held on was executive avenue outside of the white house because he still wanted to join the crowd. Here is the White House Press secretary describing her exchange with the president when he arrived back at the white house. I recall him being wanting to saying he wanted to physically walk and be a part of the march and saying that he would like to be there in the president ial limo. From the secret service, as a select committee has also obtained important new evidence on this issue. It shows how frantic this hour must have been the secret service, scrambling to get the president to back down from a dangerous and reckless decision. It put people in harms way. Look at the secret Service Email from 1 19 p. M. On january 6th. The many the president got out of the minute the president got back into the white house. As soon as he left his motorcade leadership from the secret service contacted bobby engel and warned him that they were concerned about an otr, an off the record movement. The people sworn to protect the safety of the president and who routinely put themselves in harms harms way were poised to protect him. They dont their active gear and prepare for a movement. They were told the president would leave for the capitol in two hours. It was not until 2 55. The lead secret Service Agent said they were not doing an otr. By then the rioters were attacking the efforts of the brave men and women in Law Enforcement trying to resist the mob. President trump may have not have gone to the capitol on january 6th. But what he did from the white house cannot justified. Congressional leaders and democrats and republicans work with Vice President pence address the violence. We were given a timeline of what the white house knew and when. At 1 19 the president s Emergency Operation center sent an email to the secret security and for them that hundreds of come supporters formed through metal barricades in the back of the Capitol Building about one p. M. Wednesday. Breaking fences. When the president returned to the white house around 1 20 he entered the oval office and was told about the onset of violence on the capitol. From that point on till four p. M. 4 00 p. M. , the president stayed in the white house dining room attached to the oval office and watched this unprecedented assault take place at the capitol. We have testimony from several white house staff establishing the president refusing entreaties from his closest advisors and family members to tell his supporters to stand down and leave the capitol. Here is a testimony of his white House Counsel pat cipollone. I cannot talk about president s conversations. People were told there needs to be a public announcement that they need to leave the capitol. Can you let us know when you said that . Approximately when . Almost immediately i find out people were getting into the capitol or approaching the capitol in a way that was violent. You did not want people to breach the capitol . On staff . I cannot think of anybody. On that day. We wanted people to get out. The capitol. What about the president . She said the staff. So i answered. I sit in the white house. I apologize. I cannot revoke communications. Reveal communications. Yes. His testimony is cooperated by several other white house Staff Members including ms. Hutchinson, who described what she heard from mark meadows. He said something to the effect of you have heard of ties, they do not think they are doing anything wrong. A former white house employee recalled an exchange between sue pallone and Eric Hirschman about President Trump mr. Cipollone and Eric Hirschman about President Trump and the capitol. He said he seemed to relay that the president did not want anything done. Throughout this period some of the president s most important political allies and senior staff all begged him to tell his supporters to disperse and go home. This included sean hannity, laura ingraham, and other allies of fox news, his son, the House Minority leader, others in congress and officials in the cabinet and executive branch, all of them made appeals to donald trump which he rejected and he ignored. The select committee interviewed several people who were in the dining room with the donald trump that afternoon and every single one of these witnesses told us that he was watching the violent battles rage on television. He did not call his secretary of defense or the National Guard or the chief of the Capitol Police or the metropolitan police department. Do your knowledge, was the president in the dining room the whole time that the attack is going on . Did he ever go to the oval office to assess the situation or anywhere else . He was always in the dining room. What did he think . During the brief encounter . He was watching tv. He was watching tv in the dining room when you would talk to him on january 6th. That was my understanding. He was watching television. Are you in the dining room when the discussions were you in the dining room on the discussions . The president watched the employee attack unfold on fox news from his dining room, members of congress and other government officials stepped into the gigantic leadership void. What you will see his previously unseen footage of congressional leaders republicans and democrats as they were taken to a secure location during the riot. You will see how everyone involved was working actively to stop the violence to get federal lawenforcement deployed to the scene to put down the violence and secure the capitol complex. Not just democrats like Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the House Majority leader but republicans like Vice President pence, mitch mcconnell, and countless other appointees across the administration. All of them did what President Trump was not doing. What he simply refused to do. Take a listen. We want trump we are surrounded. They are taking down the scaffolding. We are not going to be able to hold them the door has been breached people are gaining access into the capitol [indiscernible] [shouting] usa. They are locking down the senate. There has got to be a way to maintain the people, that there is some security or some precedents that government can function. That you can elect a president of the United States. We go back into session . We did go back into session. Everybody on the floor is putting on gas masks to prepare for a breach. I am trying to get more information. Cure gas masks tear gas masks . House members, they are walking to the tunnel. [indiscernible] i am going to call the secretary. We have some senators who are still in their hideaways that i need massive personnel now, can you get the National Guard . I have something to say, i will call the mayor of washington dc right now to see what other options she has and what other Police Departments have done. [indiscernible] governor, i do not know if you have been approached about the virginia National Guard, hoyer was speaking with Governor Hogan about this, i think you need the ok of the federal government in order to come in to another jurisdiction. I would like to stay in touch. Thank you. The guard has been called in. What he said is they sent 200 of state police and the unit of the National Guard. They are breaking windows and going in, ransacking our offices and all of the rest of that. That is nothing. The concern we have is about personal safety. It transcends everything but the fact is on any given day they are breaking the law in many different ways. Quite frankly, much of it is the instigation of the president of the United States. Now it it could hurt somebody. Tell the president to tell them to leave the capitol. A Public Statement that they will leave. [indiscernible] [chanting u. S. A. ] we need them now. Whatever you got. We have troops. In the air force base. Other military bases. We need National Guard. Has been in the future can you have the planes how far in the future and you have the planes . Theres nothing we can do about it right now. They are hoping they can find this and we can move forward with the rest. They wish to add the capitol. We are being told very directly it is going to take days for the capitol to be ok again. We have the conditions of the house floor, all of that kind of stuff. As well. I do not think that kind of cleanup, it is more of a security standpoint. It is out of the building. I got off of phone with the Vice President. Ok. He left the conversation with, he said he had the impression that mitch was everybody back. I said we will get an counterpoint that it could take time to clean up the poopoo they are making figuratively and literally in the capitol and it will take days to get back. We have the u. S. Capitol, he informed me, you will hear through official channels, their best information is that they believe that the house and the senate will be able to reconvene in a probably an hour. Good news. All right. Getting members back in the building. Thank you. You just saw senator Chuck Schumer calling on president tom to call of the writer rioters. Congressional leadership said President Trump was the only person who could get the mob to end its violent seizure of the congress, leave the capitol and go home. Here is senator mcconnell speaking after january 6th about how President Trump abandon his job. It was obvious. It was only President Trump. He could end this. He was the only one who could. Former aides probably begged him to do so publicly begged him to do so, allies called the administration. The president did not act. He did not do his job. He did not take steps so that federal law could be executed. Order restored. No. In the midst of this violent chaos, Kevin Mccarthy asked the mob to leave the capitol. Mccarthy called trumps children to get them to intercede with pump to call off the insurrectionary violence with trump to call off the insurrectionary violence. He called donald and he got through and said you have got to get on tv and you have to get on twitter and all these people off. The president said to him these are my people. These are antifa. They came through my Office Window and my staff are running for cover and they are running for their lives. The president s response was chilling. He said kevin, i guess there are more upset about the election than you are. My president having a swearing conversation, that is when the swearing ends. As a president says i am ok with this. I had a conversation at some point in the day or week after the riot. It was similar to what jamie had been told about how he had called and tried to get the president to call them off and he was told that the people were upset. The days and weeks after the violence. Now Kevin Mccarthy described President Trumps conduct in public and private. The president bears responsibility for wednesdays attack. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding. The facts require immediate action of President Trump.
