I may be a little grar than i was eight years ago, but this is what a feminist looks like. applause so is he right . Is that what a feminist looks like. Yes yes its not just women anymore. Absolutely. And hes done the work. He has done a lot of things to speak up about wage equality, whether to expand health care, which is also a feminist issue because women need to have access to Birth Control and be able to get safe abortions. So hes not just saying hes a feminist. Hes actually doing the work. And we need men to be feminists. We need men to push this message because, you know, you dont listen as strongly to the other. You listen much more to the message coming from somebody who is of your area, whatever that means. So when it can come from someone with extra things happening laughter then somehow its stronger. Larry now, is what does feminism mean to you today . Do you think its changed from how it originally the original meaning of it . Or is it basically the same but people are just understanding it now . I think there are a lot of things that are the same and a lot of things that have changed that, you know, i think for me, i think of wage equality. I think of certainly having the ability to be in charge of whats happening with my own body and my own health and not having a group of men sitting behind some wall deciding for me. Larry sure. But here we are in 2016 discussing abortion like we didnt have this conversation and make a point about it in 1972. Unfortunately, we are still having the same conversations. Larry yeah. People like to talk in america. People like to talk. You know, and people think its all about, you know some men women not wearing bras and clearly i chose not to today. You know. I have a really good designer so im all right. You know, i dont think a lot of women since the advent of the pushup bra are too worried about that. Larry so feminism means Something Different for women of color . Absolutely. Yes. Historically the feminist movement has been very white. Even if you look at the sufraget movement, wells was very upset when she was told she needed to be at the back of the march and was like, theres no way im going to stay back there. Larry ida b. In the front. Yes larry so i think today a lot more women of color are comfortable calling themselves feminists. Personally, i am noting about thed if someone isnt okay with calling themselves a feminist. As long as youre doing the work, i think thats what matters the most. Quite frankly, unfortunately, for me, being a feminist and dealing with feminism is the backseat to dealing with racism. So theres always racism feminism is in the backseat. Sometimes, ysometimes. And, unfortunately, they also combine. So it definitely is different for women of color because were also dealing with different things. But its also different for women who have disabilitys. Its also different for transgender women. Its different for a lot of different women. Depending on what your background is, i think it morphs daily. And i think theres also a different feeling about if black women are feeling very strong and set in a point about feminism, we are all of a sudden angry. Larry yeah. In a very different way, which means something very different. And i think larry well, feminism has always had that kind of the people who were antifeminism although i dont know how that doesnt even make sense to me, that phrase. But that was always why is she so angry . Why are you so angry. Larry theres a very good reason to be angry. Theres good reason to be angry. And theres a difference between when black women become angry about something. Its a rage people are afraid of. Its the fire you cant put out. As opposed to women realizing, listen, did you not come from a vagina . Do you not have a reason to support feminism . Even sometimes if youre not angry, they apply the angry label on you. Yes. Even when youre saying it in the nicest way possible. Larry calm down, franchesca calm down i just happened to have a really good eyebrow wax that day. My eyebrows are on point. Larry even Hillary Clinton gets that. When shes speak loud, shes shouting and angry. Right, if youre passionate that equals angry for a lot of women, unfortunately. We arent allowed to hold anger. We arent allowed to haveanger and utilizeanger and be raichous in our anger in the same way that men are. We have the right t to be mad about something. cheers and applause . Yes. If men get angry, they are strong. They are head strong. They are leaders. They are to the point. If we are angry were instant bititches who need to be put on timeout. Were emotional. We have p. M. S. You must be on your period. Larry if Hillary Clinton does become our next president , what will that do for feminism, if anything . A lot of people said, if obama become president , racism gone. Shirley chisholm said women were emotionally, sexually, and psychologically stereotypes from the moment the doctor says, its a girl. Larry yeah. When will that change . Larry well, especially in china. I mean, thats, like, one of the worst places to be born a girl. Youre instantly stigmatized, i think. There was a point where you were not only stigmatized but you were thrown away. Larry exactly. Literally. So, you know, weve gotten better than that. And i think they changed that. Larry weve gotten better. But theres a lot theres still a lot of work to do. Larry yes. Is there a place for things like chivalry in feminism . Yes yes absolutely. As long as youre not using your hand to lift me bodily as im getting out of my subway seat, i appreciate that little bit of help.
