You have a lot of people running saying im not for that tax. There is no way to be for it if you dont. So youre a cosponsor of medicare for all. Would you raise taxes on the middle class to pay for it . Im a cosponsor of a lot of bills that can deal with this broken system, the cost are tremendously to the tune of hundreds and hundreds of trillions of dollars more. We have a deeply broken system. If im president of the United States, the first step im going to take is to create a public option that will reduce cost within the system driving down Prescription Drug cost and attacking bureaucracy going on. As somebody that had to run something, i was a chief executive of our states largest city during a recession. We found ways to battle back bureaucracy, lower costs and make things more senator, do you want to do that . But do you want to do that with the medicare for all plan . Because youre a cosponsor, that suggestions that the answer is yes but youre saying maybe not. No, look, what ive said very clearly to folks is i believe that medicare for all is the end that we should be seeking. But anybody who says that cant be a political slogan. There has to be a pathway to create a vibrant public option and driving down costs for americans and creating options so people dont have to rashtio Prescription Drugs. Bernie sanders would do it at the beginning. Get in the white house and that would be what they would do. For you thats not . If we had 60 votes in the senate now, all the democrats in the senate wouldnt even support that. This is about not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Were dealing with a country that needs a lot more good. Is medicare for all unrealistic . Look, medicare for all is what we should be going for but the first step has to show we can create a public option allowing medicare to be available for more people and well drive down cost because people from a private pool will begin to choose medicare for all. Older people, more older people, 55, 56 will choose that public option to make the private pools go down. Youre right. I do know the reality of congress but i want to make as you were were clear, you said medicare for all, your aspiration cant pass so it wouldnt be your first issue out of the gate. Im not taking anything off the table. I believe that this election for our nation needs to be a movement election. So we dont necessarily know what congress is going to look like. My goal is that in america, all americans agree with this, in this Country Health care should be a right. Nobody should be being denied Income Opportunities because they cant afford them.
