Say Something
else in the next few hours. Want to bring in dana bash and margaret talev. Dana, its your reporting that adam schiff and nancy pelosi were in contact before they both came out with what were very new positions on investigating the president. Adam schiff saying weve crossed the rubicon and now maybe impeachment is something to look at. And nancy pelosi saying a whole new stage of the investigation. Whats going on here . Whats going on is that the pressure that we have been talking about and we have been seeing for months reached a completely new level last week. With corey lewandowski, we cant forget that, and the frustration, anger really among a lot of democrats that he wasnt held in contempt right then and there when he was not answering questions, never mind not treating the members of congress with the respect they felt that they deserved. But then of course this. The whole question of ukraine and the idea that the acting dni is not urn thing over the whistleblower complaint. The fact that adam schiff who has not been in the impeached proud, hes been cautious. Hes been in lock step with members of the leadership who have been saying hold on. Were not there yet. The fact that he used the i word and then as you said, i was told that i had coordinated closely with the
House Speaker
this weekend. She released the letter notably did not use the i word. Did not use impeachment. But nonetheless, her letter was extremely tough. A lot of focus on the fact she said this if theres no reaction from the administration, it would put the investigation into a whole new level. But she actually wants immediate action. What she was trying to do, im told, in this letter is appeal to not just democrats but republicans. There are a lot of them who have said theyre retiring, so they dont have any kind of political strings on them to push the dni to really come on thursday and deliver the report to congress that has the information about the whistleblowers report. Margaret, nancy pelosi didnt use the i word. She used the e word. She said this is an emergency and needs addressed immediately. We dont know what it will look like. But it will look like the president is at the uga with the world watching and shes running the tables in washington. There are things changing inside her caucus now as dana was mentioning. There are a number of kind of either centrist democrats or democrats in vulnerable districts who are now more interested and open to the idea of impeachment. There are republicans in the senate as well as the house who are uncomfortable with the notion of what the president may have done and want to see this transcript themselves. She understands that the internal pressure on her is increasing to do something. If she does not shift accordingly, it could be a moment for her. And to put the republicans on the hot seat. As
James Carville
was quoted today saying the politics of this have changed. You might be able to take an
Impeachment Vote
in the house now and force republicans in the house to explain their vote against it. Not saying they wouldnt vote against it, but if they did it puts them in a difficult position. Which brings me to mitt romney who put out this
Statement Last
night. If the president asked or pressured ukraines president to investigate his political rival either directly or through his personal attorney, it would be troubling in the extreme. Critical for the facts to come out. I dont know if he saw the news this weekend to the president admitting having that conversation. However, if mitt romney says the facts need to come out, is that what youre getting at . Saying there are more republicans saying to release the transcript. Put the pressure on them. Absolutely. When when mitt romney became a senator and knowing his history with not having a high opinion of the president how much he was going to push back. And he has been very careful to pick his moments. This is a moment. And this is notable. The fact that he decided to tweet it. Yes, it is true that the president admitted it. Rudy giuliani paved the way last week. But mitt romney is saying we need more than that. We need what nancy pelosi called for which is the actual whistleblower complaint to come to congress so there could be a full report to get to more than, okay, yeah, i did it. Okay. What exactly did the president say and, you know, the context around that. And so that is significant when it comes to the senate, but in the house, you still dont have never mind a
Critical Mass
of democrats. But you dont have the 218 as far as the math im looking at to get to impeachment. Were not quite there yet. But more importantly historically. Last time this happened, it was bipartisan. It was largely republicans who voted to impeach president clinton but there were democrats on board. Thats not happening now. Thats why the part of
Nancy Pelosis
letter where shes calling on republicans to help pressure the white house on this issue is really important. As dana points out, times have changed since there was a bipartisan vote on impeachment. I guess my question is why would impeachment have to be this belabored experience that all the democrats seem to fear if they are doing the count of their vote right now . If something has changed this weekend, can they just quickly take a vote and all be on the record . They know its not going to happen in the senate. They know the president s not going to be officially impeached by the senate. But shouldnt if they believe people should be on the record, can they do that quickly . I think yes is the short answer. But there is a longer answer. Which is that nancy pelosi has part of her concern has always been okay lets say the
House Democrats
vote. Just posterity. Thats it. Thats why this could be potentially a pivotal change. Its one thing after the
Mueller Report
is out. This is something. This is something new. This actually goes to youre going to hear the word collusion and thils continues to move forward. But its not going to be ironically we the gs arussians,s going to be whether he tried to hold up military aid to a u. S. Ally at a time they needed it to defend themselves. We are still talking about russia. And i just think that while the calculus has changed for the democrats, they are still trying to understand would the
American Public
be behind them . Is it worse for them if they do or dont proceed on this front . And can they use the pressure of it to get anything that they want out of the white house . And the one other dynamic i think is important to point out is the democrats who have been calling for impeachment since day one, the aocs of the world. They have reached a different point in their rhetoric as well. And that is theyre blaming not just, you know, republicans and the white house for stonewalling. Theyre now blaming their own leadership for letting the white house get away with it. And thats pretty intense stuff. And the fact that theyre willing to go there and willing to go there loudly also gives you a sense of where the dynamic is inside the house caucus. Theres also a house transcript. Theres one tangible thing to fight about. And the whistleblower complaint. Sure. Two tangible things and a tangible person. Theres the
Inspector General
of the
Intelligence Committee
who thinks this is of urgent concern. So there are many more tangible things here, perhaps, than we had during the whole mueller investigation. Maybe that will give democrats the if they want to go that way, to dig in here. Thank you for your reporting. It is day one of the u. N. General assembly but

convene for the u. N. General assembly. This happens amid escalating tensions with iran and of course all those questions about that ukraine phone call. Joining us now is nic robertson. Nic, it will be an interesting week. What do we expect to come out of this . We can certainly expect the president to be watched on so many issues. But i think the one in the perspective that hell be watched on most closely at the moment is the iran issue. The saudis are looking for him to remain tough on iran. Hes put this on the table. He appears this would be interru interpreted by the saudis that they believe that could lead to further reaction. Theres a lot at stake there as well. Obviously today is the
Climate Change
summit at the nga. So i think there would be something made of that as well. Its interesting. Lets remind people what happened one year ago when the president spoke at the
United Nations
. He may be speaking to a different audience today than he was one year ago. Remember this . In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country. Americas so true. Didnt expect that reaction, but thats okay. He was laughed at at the u. N. Last year which is really something thats never happened before by a community very skeptical of the u. N. Pulling out. But now with the
World Community
believing that iran was behind this attack on the
Saudi Oil Fields
, i wonder if the audience is different and if the reception of the president trying to be tough on iran in some way will be different. That was a weird moment last year. I mean, it really was. But the world now recognizes where
President Trump
has taken his engagement whether its in north korea or whether its in iran which has led to an escalation of tensions in the region. Or many other issues, how he positions himself lets say on the cashmere issue between pakistan and india, i think theres a recognition in that room now that the president plays a huge role in stability. The indians have moved to create greater control in cashmere. Thats provoked a backlash in pakistan. Meeting with pakistani
Prime Minister
today, for example. So im not sure that people will laugh, because i think theres a sense that how the president acts and what he says on these key issues and now a moment of such big importance, if the
United States
and
President Trump
doesnt stand very clearly behind saudi arabia, they believe iran will feel emboldened to strike again. Secretary of state pompeo called it an act of war. 23 it was proven iran was behind this, actually missiles taken on their soil, that would be huge. This is an immense escalation. I think the moment of the president s words are now less of a laughing matter. Theres all sort of concern here in the u. S. And debate about what the u. S. Response should be to an iranian attack on the
Saudi Oil Fields
if it should be a military response. What do the saudis want . Any escalation of tensions there is terrible for the whole region. It is terrible for them. Would be terrible for the iranians, terrible for the united arab emirates. They dont they say they dont want military escalation. What they want is what they want is iran to understand that it cannot do this again. And they would far rather see that as we saw last weekend they have a lot at stake. These attacks on the oil field, although they took down their oil supplies by a half, what actually appoints in the chain, early points in the chain that can be rebuilt relatively quickly. British Travel
Company Thomas Cook suddenly closed leaving thousands trying to get home. We are live at gattwick with details. How did this happen . Reporter this is an extraordinary story the worlds oldest travel
Company Serving some 19 million customers every year in 16
Countries Worldwide suddenly announcing last night something that no one had expected in so far as a financial deal to bail them out had been being negotiated, had been on the cards. This was the moment overnight when the ceo said that, those talks had failed. Despite huge efforts over a number of months and further intense negotiations over recent days, we have not been able to secure a deal to save our business. It has been my privilege to be lead thomas cook. It is deeply distressing to me that it has not been possible to save one of the most loved brands in travel. Reporter of course an immediate apology he said to the 21,000 employees of the company who suddenly found themselves without a job, alisyn, overnight, it was just after midnight british time that the first planes began being impounded in airports like this one. Then there is the question of the 600,000 customers that are currently stranded around the world. Now, the

World Leaders converge in new york, iran is flexing its military muscle during its annual sacred defense week. In fact, theyre showing off wreckage of the drone it shot down in june that triggered threats of retaliatory strikes. Nick paton walsh has the latest. Reporter the new
Missile System iran says downed a top american drone this june. President trump almost launched air strikes as retaliation but called off at the last minute. But the last week, theyre not worried here. Instead putting that drone or really what they say is left of it on display. The argue for a global hawk can fly up to 400 miles an hour for 34 hours with the wingspan of a boeing 737. The u. S. Said it was over international waters. Just the message that iran took it down anyway. They say it was destroyed over the gulf and a lot of the wreckage went straight underwater. This is all they were able to salvage. Conveniently the u. S. Insignia is intact. A predator drone is also here. We were told it was hacked as it flew over iran. Older american models israeli, british we cant touch them or verify independently what they are. It was no accident that a couple of days after the
Saudi Arabian government displays devices, iran puts on a display of what it said it managed to capture over its lands or near it. A friendly welcome here from an iranian pilot whose face says we cant show. Talks about premier
League Soccer and describes in english how some of these drones were hacked as they flew over iran. But the message here clearly one of confidence and desire for iran to show quite how much its been able to salvage from the drones that have flown over its territory. Learning from even stealing
American Technology is nothing new. But more and more are in on it. These drones are master class, iranian officials have said, in reverse engineering. In tehran, sanctions may bite but they want you to know iran can too. Nick paton walsh, cnn, iran. Thanks to nick. Elizabeth warren surging to the top of the field in iowa. Where does that leave joe biden . Cnns new poll next. How we doing . Fabulous i wonder how the firm is doing without its fearless leader. Sure you want to leave that all behind . Yeah. Stay restless, with the icon that does the same. The new rx, crafted by lexus. Experience amazing at your lexus dealer. This morning senator
Elizabeth Warren is at the top in iowa in this brand new cnn
Des Moines Register poll but where does that leave the onetime front runner joe biden . Lets get the forecast with harry enten. Everyone has seen the top line number. But the numbers behind the numbers tell a story. Lets remind you of them. Basically what we have is a top tier between warren and biden. Sanders, buttigieg, way down. Everyone else 6 or below. I think the trend here is important. Look at warren. She was 9 in march. 15 in june. 22 now. The trend for biden going the other way. And the trend for sanders really bad. But as you were saying, sort of the numbers behind the numbers which i think are so important. Basically our poll asked who did you caucus for in 2016. And i think this gives a good understanding of why warren is jumping up in the polls. She is taking from the sanders pool. More than sanders is pulling from his own pool. Thats not good for
Bernie Sanders if hes losing the
Bernie Sanders voters. Not good at pall. We have this whole idea 2016 was a brutal primary. Could sanders grab those clinton supporters . The answer, no. Hes at 0 among them versus warren who is pulling a decent chunk of them. Biden is getting none of that sanders support. The key with warren is shes pulling from both pieces of the pie. Does she have a great ground game . That is true. There is that sense. As well as from the well educated language with hillary clinton. And she is starting to tap into electability and things that matter to the democratic voters, yes . I would say thats very much the case. Weve been asking that question. Whats more important . Beating donald trump or having issue alignment with your candidate. And warrens actually doing fairly well among those voters. Shes at 25 . That leads the field. Beating trump, shes in a tie with joe biden at 22 versus biden who was at 22 in that. So again what you see is warrens able to pull a piece from both of those and thats so important in which electability is important. But shes got both of those. As we always saying with these are early days. Though john tries to remind us not so early. So are peoples minds made up . I think this is really interesting. All this talk about
Elizabeth Warrens voters being enthusiastic. Among those caucus goers, shes up 26 to 19 for sanders. Theres also this question about the mind being made up. Not that many peoples are made up. Biden actually is ahead in that category. So i think, you know, theres still a lot of biden voters likely to stay biden voters. The issues themselves, this is interesting. Yeah. This is really interesting. We asked this question about medicare for all. Do you like it and want to implement it . Do you fear it will hurt you in a general election . Or you dont want it and dont want to implement it . But this is the key group for me. This 28 who like it but fear it will hurt you in a general election. The reason thats a key group is because look at that. Warren plus four. That matches our overall poll, right . I would look at this group. Because to me this is the group that could turn against warren. Makes you see why biden is running so hard on that issue. Absolutely right. Not surprisingly the rest of these numbers look the same. One other thing ill sort of point out here, very favorable ratings. Buttigieg is second to warren. This number is highly correlated to how you do in the horse race. And winning iowa is how important, usually . This is basically an understanding of where these polls are at this point. Polling at about 22 at this point, you only win about 30 of the time. So to me warren is perhaps a top tier candidate at this point, but no guarantee shell win the nomination iowa. Anything for football . I want to point out my

George Clooney speaks, people listen. Or at least they look. Hes going against
Multinational Companies who are profiting off the violence and instability in south sudan. He talked about the campaign to stop the looting of this
Central African nation. We are joined live from london. What did you learn . Well, for those of us who covered south sudans independence, watching it ascend into the chaos it did was heart breaking. But unfortunately, it disappeared like so many of these conflicts do off the news agenda. And now
George Clooney and
John Pendergast together have put together this incredibly ambitious investigative report and they let us have a little peek into it. Take a look at this, alisyn. Reporter polluted waters, farreaching corruption, and a department the u. S. State department accuses of breaking u. S. Arms sanctions. All allegations in a new investigation into corruption in south sudan. Fronted by one of the most famous faces in the world and his partner in activism. What we realized was we need to start we may not be able to shame war criminals, but we can shame people that live 15 miles from here in a beautiful home. So part of what we wanted to do was we wanted to make it really uncomfortable for the people who were profiting off of atrocities and get to put on a suit and go to a nice restaurant. That was part of it. Right now, it pays to continue the conflict. It pays to continue to subvert democracy. We want to change the incentive structure from the absence of rule of law to transparency and good governance. Reporter the report identifies the work of alleged criminals and corrupt individuals including an american from fresno, california. Ara delarian. This itemized invoice alleged by prosecutors thought to be from him himself was unveiled in
Court Proceedings in california. Delorean pled guilty to violating the arms control act ininvolving sales to nigeria. Cnn reached out to a representative but received no response. They also accused
Chinese State
Petroleum Company cmpc and malaysia of willfully polluting the environment. None of them responded to cnns request for comment. When south sudan first became independent in july 2011, there was an incredible amount of hope. George clooney and
John Pendergast were among those helping to ensure the referendum was free and fair. We first met eight years ago on the border of north south sudan. Why south sudan . Why is this something that has sustained your interest and your attention for this long . Well, it just gets in your blood, doesnt it . I could say the same thing to you. You spent a lot of time in those areas. This isnt some african aberration that pops up and well, look at africa. Theyre so corrupt. This has its roots here in europe and the
United States. Reporter root the report alleges are nourished by the ground. Entrenching a conflict that engulfed south sudan for the last six years killing hundreds of thousands and creating widespread hunger. One that they say will require a
Global Solution to combat. Youve got to close the loophole and create accountability for those trying to use the financial system. Because if its not its not just going to remain localized. Oftentimes, western countries, people in western society look at african countries that are struggling and think, wow, theyre corrupt and just out of laws. And they dont take into consideration that there are huge western companies, citizens profiting off of this. And were they not doing that, these guys would not be able to function. Thats just a simple fact. Reporter even in the midst of the horror,
George Clooney and
John Pendergast detail in their investigation in south sudan, they say they remain hopeful that there is still time for the world to act. They are hopeful that governments around the world are going to take this information and act on it. They told us they have already reached out to the white house about looking at expanding their sanctions regime. You know, they say theyre optimistic that change will happen. Theyve already made a big difference and forced change. I think
George Clooney in the
United States has pushed this issue more than anybody and pressured the lawmakers to take the stands they have. Absolutely. And you know, as you point out, its also interconnected. Between the
Climate Crisis and widespread hunger. It has a
Ripple Effect everywhere. Nima, thank you very much for brings us your exclusive interview with him for the u. S. Antonio brown says hes done with the nfl after being dropped by the patriots. National Football league completely. This was part of a twitter tirade. Andy scholes has the latest in the bleacher report. Good morning, john. Antonio brown says theres a double standard going on. He says hes not going to play in the nfl anymore and he called out robert kraft and ben roethlisberger. He posted a story from 2010 about roethlisberger being investigated for
Sexual Assault. Roethlisberger was suspended four games by the nfl for violating the leagues personal conduct policy that year. The quarterback denied a
Sexual Assault took place. The incident was investigated but no charges filed. Brown has since deleted that tweet. In another he said he will not be playing in the nfl anymore. They can cancel deals, do whatever they want. Well see if the
Nfl Players Association will hold them accountable. Britney taylor has accused him of

United States and around the world. This is new day. We begin with the whistleblower scandal that is shaking up washington for action including possible impeachment of
President Trump. President trump is now talking to the ukraine president about biden. Nancy pelosi said the

Speaker pelosi is also set itina deadline to turn over the whistleblower complaint ahead of the u. S. Intel chiefs public testimony that will be happening on capitol hill this week. Well watch that closely. The president is waking up in new york this morning for the start of the

President Trump and ukraines president or what you know at least thus far about the facts of this phone call including that the president this weekend confirmed that he did talk to the president of ukraine about joe biden and his son, does that wrap up the impeachment inquiry in your mind . Yeah, of course it does. Extorting a foreign leader for the purposes of getting that leader to do your political work, to try to find dirt on your opponent is extortion. It is using the assets of the
