impeachment manager says the timing doesn't matter. >> you think of someone who's going to attack the peaceful transition of power and hold on to power despite the will of the people. that's going to happen at the end of their term not the beginning so it presents a very dangerous precedent if we were to say, look, a president, vice president gets a constitutional freebie. you get one free thing, do it near the end so it will be late in your term. that would be very, very dangerous for our democracy. >> president biden weighing in on impeachment with the most direct comments so far telling kaitlyn collins the senate trial has to happen even if it means holding up his legislative agenda and his cabinet nominees. the president told caitlyn there would be a worse effect if it didn't happen. meanwhile, targets of the insurrection will be sworn in as jurors. the historic trial, fourth in history, second against president trump. ryan noble starts us off on capitol hill. >> reporter: good morning from capitol hill where the articles of impeachment are now in the hands of the united states senate. now begins the clock ticking on the next impeachment trial for former president donald trump. it's going to be about a two-week process for the president and his legal team to get their legal affairs in order. on tuesday the senators will be sworn in. the presiding judge will take over the responsibility of overseeing the trial. they will begin with an eye towards february 9th. that's when the trial itself will take place. we don't know how it will look, if there will be witnesses. they're prepared for the possibility of witnesses. some suggesting that even the senators themselves may be called to testify since they were a part of the capitol insurrection which is at the core of this impeachment. trump attempting to put together a legal team. sources are telling jeff zeleny that he's having a hard time gathering together a big legal team, many law firms don't want to be associated with the impeachment trial and may be as simple as being worried president trump won't pay them. that's the situation the president finds himself in. lindsey graham said he spoke to president trump over the weekend and the president, like many americans, just wants to see this impeachment trial behind him as soon as possible. >> thank you for that. one notable difference between the upcoming impeachment trial and the last one, who is in charge. senator patrick leahy will preside. that's because the 80-year-old democrat is the longest serving lawmaker in the majority party. otherwise known as the president pro tem of the senate. justice roberts doesn't have to preside under the constitution. senator leahy is vowing to oversee the trial with impartiality. there is an inquiry from the doj. they revealed a plot from the former president trump and top doj official to change the results. they wanted to fire jeffrey rosen who had privately rejected the president's demands. senate majority leader chuck schumer called for the inspector general's probe saying it was unconscionable a doj official would try to subvert the people's will. a tornado in birmingham, alabama. some people are hospitalized with serious injuries. search and rescue teams are combing through debris now. officials say a house collapsed on one family. no word on their condition yet. a hotel in the city was heavily damaged. a church had part of its roof torn off. a tornado effect remains in effect for alabama. historic first, janet yellen is the first female treasury secretary in history. she'll be sworn in by chairs. she is a battle tested economist. taking the top job at treasury makes her one of the most powerful women in the world. her job now, she's got to be the salesperson for the biden administration's rescue of the battered american economy. biden's $1.9 trillion plan includes a bigger stimulus check, money for state and local aid, money for a crucial national vaccine plan. yellen says right now with interest rates at historic lows, the smartest thing we can do is act big. there is a lot of work done. years of job market gains have been wiped out. we're down 9.8 million jobs since february. what's been called a k shaped economy and health crisis have left millions behind while the rich, laura, recovering very, very quickly. the bottom -- i would say the bottom 20or 25% of earners essentially they have the economic conditions of the depression at this moment. that's something for congress to keep in mind as the stock market hits records. and lies. that's what makes it difficult to move on. donald trump has two weeks to get his legal case in order. the trial begins february 9th. not clear how long it could take. lawmakers could be president biden taking questions at a press conference on monday tried to address all of those. the most pressing the administration is trying to get its arms around at the moment is the issue of vaccinations, whether there's an infrastructure, how much supply is in place. biden says he believes they will stay on track to have 100 million vaccinations in 100 days. he believes they could kick it up to 1.5 million vaccinations in a day and open the door to the possibility everybody who wants to get vaccinated could get vaccinated by spring. another thing that's crucial, the corner stone of the opening days of the administration, a $1.9 trillion stimulus proposal which has been faced by the republicans cool to ice cold. biden wants to negotiate. where they're going, we'll have to see. >> no one wants to give up on their position until there's no other alternative. they have to insist on what they have, don't support what is being proposed or they let it all go away, fall down. i think we're far from that point right now. i don't expect we'll know whether we have an agreement and to what extent the entire package can pass or not pass until we get down to the end of this pros si which will be in a couple of weeks. >> reporter: the president's process is central on what's happening. democrats in the house and senate have started to itch to move forward on their own using a budget procedure that wouldn't take any republican support at all. biden has made it clear, he's campaigned on bipartisanship. he did it as a vice president, senator for more than 36 years and wants to give an opportunity for republican senators to come along over the course of the next couple of days. president biden has made clear he's willing to negotiate on the number. where that goes? that's an open question. democrats are ready to go on their own and biden is leaving the door open to some bipartisan resolution. breaking overnight, a large and extremely dangerous tornado ripping through 90% of the state's population. this as he and his health officials reported improving icu bed rates. it should be above 50% in all of the state. it will go back to the four tier color coded system. the student body with deaths by suicide doubling since the pandemic began in the clark county school district, the fifth largest in the country. 19 students have died by suicide since remote learning began last march compared with 9 deaths from the prior year. in addition, an early warning system put in place to help monitor student mental health episodes has sent 3100 alerts to officials. district psychologists have noted the difficulty in reaching students to provide counseling. i'm elizabeth cohen. the cdc has defined close contact of being in six feet or two meters of someone can covid-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more. a new study raises questions. a team with 21 players, 1/3 of them hadn't spent 15 minutes with the person who was sick. how long do you need to be near
