Louder and louder as they try to stop the white house from Going Forward or face a vote disapproving of the move. We think tariffs in this instance are hurting the chances of getting usmc aid and for me that is a very important goal. I think that we would all be better off if we dont put tariffs on mexico. And lets see what happens. I support getting mexico doing more and i hope that conversations that are occurring today produce more cooperation by mexico, they could have a big impact, but i think the tariffs are unnecessary. If we could get Congressional Democrats to just do their job. I understand that the problem with tariffs. I get it. But nothing else seems to be working. We tried everything. Kaitlan collins is at the white house and republicans are speaking out privately and publicly. And now the president s top trade adviser tells cnn the action trump said is necessary to stop undocumented immigrants from crossing the southern border may not be so necessary after all. Can you explain what is going on . Reporter that would be Peter Navarro, one of the president s trade advisers one of the chief officials pushing this idea on the president saying that it would get mexicos attention. Now today just days before the deadline for the tariffs to go into effect on monday, it is coming on, this is what Peter Navarro is saying now. Right now the Mexican Government makes money off illegal immigration. After the tariffs are put in place the Mexican Government will pair t will bear the coss of that. We believe the tariffs wouldnt have to go into effect because we have the mexican attention and we have mike pence and pom and ambassador lighthizer. Lets go to the facts like at the chess board here. It is significant that Peter Navarro is now saying they may not need to go into effect but Peter Navarro is not going to be in the meeting today with the Vice President , with ront lighthizer and with the Mexican Foreign minister. They are tamping down expectations saying they dont expect a big deal but they want u. S. Officials to relay how serious the president is about imposing tariffs but at the same time you see officials create space to back off this threat. Which is namely that they havent been able to explain to lawmakers how they would move forward and theyve essentially not given any guidelines so mexico could do something and the white house could say that is enough for them to do this. But of course this is all going to come down to President Trump and you saw him this morning on twitter touting how House Republican support in the house, talking about whether or not republicans senators would try to block this move from the president. So sometimes in the face of backlash, the president doubles down and gets defiant. So that is the question here. But ultimately it is up to the president who we should note is not in the washington during the meeting today because he is still overseas. I want to continue the conversation. The Senate Republicans are not finished. You heard Lindsey Graham on tariffs and no he is joining forces with democratic senator bob menendez and bipartisan senators in Unveiling Solutions to block an 8 million arms deal with saudi arabia and the uae. One reason, the senators are speaking are speaking out because last month trump declared an emergency to expedite the sale, a move allowed by law under the arms export control act. But it also enables the white house to skip a required congressional review. And erin is from the daily beast and so erin, we have not seen Congressional Republicans stand up very much to this president. What do you think is behind this onetwo punch on the mexico tariffs and the arms deal. Yeah, so it is interesting. We this is sort of a Shocking Development here. Ever since the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi we haventine republicans come out and condemn the arms flow from the u. S. To saudi arabia or for example the authorizations going through for u. S. Companies to work in saudi arabia on nuclearrelated work. So i think the republicans are making a stand here and a huge statement by coming out on this and i think this is a development we have not seen since the khashoggi situation. And i think putting in the context of everything that has developed between the u. S. And saudi arabia since that time, this is quite striking. What about options . Because this all follows the resolution to end u. S. Involvement in the war in yemen. And so it passed with the house and senate and house and before President Trump vetoed. So say this resolution passed and is vetoed, what other options do congress have. There are there are conversations on capitol hill to figure out what the next step is and i dont think theyve come to a determination. I think the strategy conversations are still ongoing and i think theyll be happening through the next couple of days here and into the beginning of next week. So i think at a staff level the conversations are happening and at a member level theyre happening. But i dont think a decision Going Forward in terms of strategy of how to deal with the president on this issue has been understood yet. Erin banko, keep your ear to the ground for us. Thank you very much. Despite a huge field of challengers, President Trump clearly thinks he has 2020 in the bag. He said so in an interview with pierce morgan for good morning britain. There is nobody that i see that should be able to win. Look, im running on the best economy in the history and i rebuilt our military and i knocked out isis. His confidence another boost thank to this cnn poll. Check this out. 45 of respondents they think President Trump will win the 2020 election and while 1 but 41 say he will lose and there is a difference between predicting he will win and wanting him to win in 2020. So lets go to gloria borger. And gloria, 54 . What does the poll say to you . Youre right. There is a big difference between thinking hes going to win and wanting him to win. And that is what our poll shows. Our poll shows that a larger number of people who disapprove of trump now still think hes likely to win the election. So you have to ask the question of yourself, why is that . And were not quite sure what the answer is. The answer might be as trump would tell you about himself to pierce morgan it might be the economy, which seems to be humming along. It might also be that democratic voters are taking a look at their huge field and saying, how are we ever going to get someone out of the field after a bloody primary, who is going to be able to beat an incumbent. So that may be contributing to it. Lets taum talk Climate Change. The president is speaking out. Stand by. This came up again with Prince Charles in the interview with pierce. So here is that clip. I believe that there is a change in weather and i think it changes both ways. Dont forget it used to be called Global Warming and it didnt work and then Climate Change and now called extreme weather because with extreme weather you cant miss. Because once again the president confuses weather and Climate Change. Tom sadir is with me. And you could just fact check, lay it out for me. Well, i doubt he told Prince Charles it was a chinese hoax but at least hes talking. First he said Global Warming was the term and then it wasnt working and that is false. Global warming and Climate Change and extreme weather are interchangeable. They do mean different things. Global warming, that is longterm warming due to increase fossil fuel emissions. I know there is skeptics out there and still some deniers. All of the blewer and cooler than average areas and then into the 80s and 90s here, brooke, watch the deep red. This is pure fact. We know that the warming of the climate has been taking place. This is going to blow your mind with this statistic. Last month, the month of may, was the 516th consecutive month above the 20th century average. We havent had a month average or cooler since june of 1976. This correlates with the co2 output. Last month 415 parts mer million. To give you an idea how long ago it has been, there hasnt been a time where it has been higher than this. This graph goes back 800,000 years, brooke. And we know from earth core samples and it fluctuates, volcanos and wildfires and then in the industrial age, 300 parts per million and in 1910, 400 a few years ago and this is where we are now. The correlation with the temperature and the co2 output is part of the global warning. If we took every plane, train and automobile off the planet it only drops it 14 . And because it is warming there is a change in the climate. We know the sea level is rising and were losing the polar ice cap and the ci floss is the Second Lowest in history from a couple of years ago and the change in rainfall. How many times did we talk about this is a one in 500 year flood event or 1 in 1,000 event and they are happening every couple of years. Yeah. The snow cover and things like that. So these are extreme weather cases. So that is where they are, changeable, but obviously flooding and heat waves plays a big role and well see more of that. At least hes talking about which is good news. One fact to leave you with here, the deforestation a report last month that came out, onethird of the living land mass available on this planet has been plowed or bulldozed, damned, mined or covered if concrete and steel. In january deforestation increased 15 because the new president ran on more than that. Tom sater, thank you very much. Lets continue this conversation. All of the bits and pieces out of the interview with the president. So gloria, let me play one more clip. I want your reaction to another question pierce morgan posted to the president about the war in vietnam. You are not able to serve in vietnam because of a bone spur condition in your feet. Do you wish you had been able to serve in would you have liked to serve your country . Well, i was never a fan of that war, ill be honest. I thought it was a terrible awar and very far away. Youre talking about vietnam and at that time nobody ever heard of the country. Listen, i know a lot of people a lot of americans didnt approve of that war. But the way to not be a fan of it and to say it was very far away, how does that sit with you . Well not how it sits with me. How does it sit with the people who were serving, right now in afghanistan and how does it feel to them . They may not be a fan of the war, that country is very far away, they may not have heard a lot about it before they went to serve but they are serving. Now it is a volunteer army and it is a different thing. But pierce morgan in his question was sort of saying, i know you had the bone spurs, well that is also a subject up for some discussion because if you recall during Michael Cohens testimony he made it very clear from his conversations with the president that was a false issue, that, in fact, there was a doctors letter written and that donald trump had no such thing. Now, again, this is something that Michael Cohen is saying. So it has yet to be proven 100 . But the president did not serve and thats okay but to say that these are the reasons, i didnt like the war and country was far away and the bone spur issue, i think if i was serving right now id have many issues with that. Gloria, thank you very much. Sure. Were getting breaking news. More than 40,000 Migrant Children have been booked in u. S. Custody since the 30th of april and while they wait for their court date, the Trump Administration said it will now cut access to english lessons and legal aid and some recreation. Well talk about that. And a tragic mystery in a popular vacation spot. Three american tourists killed at the same resort. Days apart. What is going on . And they were two of the most famous faces of the 90s, what the then Real Estate Investor claims about Princess Diana that Buckingham Palace had to step in. Youre watching cnn, im brooke baldwin.
