Translator he was looking at while he was on the train on youtube where on which a jihad there were jihadi songs and somebody inspiring people to jihadi acts. Therefore, we have decided to open a preliminary investigation to an attempt of murder under the terrorist laws. First, we have more today regarding the frenchamerican who was injured and who helped bring down the gunman. His name is mark moogalian. Lets go straight to paris for an update. His condition has worsened. I have Martin Savidge and bob baer. Martin, to you first, can you give me a quick update on this frenchamerican . Whats his condition right now . 51 years of age, being treated at a hospital two hours north of paris. I do have better news for you and that is that weve had an update from the family. His condition saw him worsen overnight but now theres been a little bit of improvement. They feared that he might have been forgotten with all of the focus on the other heroes, they want to point out that hes as much of a hero as any and he was the most seriously wounded in abeing ta, brooke. Mark moogalian, also a hero. Now to khazzani. Talk to me about who he is. The prosecutor came forward and named the official charges. They are attempted murder, then attempted mass murder. These come under the specific delineation and it was not named what terrorist organization he was involved with. Going forward, they are going to look at, where did he travel . It looked like he moved all over europe recently. Was that guided or just wandering . The other thing they want to know is who may have assisted him along the way. Significantly pointed out by the prosecutor, heres a man who is allegedly homeless, living in a park days before the attack yet plunks down euros to buy a firstclass ticket from brussels to paris putting him on that train. How does that happen . Theres a lot of hmms going on. Martin, thank you. Im going to get to some of his travels in europe in a second. First, the news we found out today that he was there on the train apparently watching these videos on his phone. These are youtube videos of radical jihadists preaching and singing. What do you read into that, if anything at all . It looks like he was selfrecruited. Number one, he was not very good with weapon. He never should have put himself in that position on a crowded train, just unwise to do. Two is, he was on the internet. And if true islamic state, they wouldnt be leaving that trail at this point. Whether he made it into syria or just got to turkey, i dont think thats been established yet. But clearly i think were looking at categorizing him as a terrorist and probably a lone wolf. Talking to Paul Cruikshank on this. Bottom line, we do know that he was flagged as a risk, flagged in belgium. He was still able to get on that plane and fly to a court neighboring syria. How is that possible . Exactly. Where did he get the money but more importantly where did he get the weapons . You dont just buy those on the market. Where did he get it . Somebody supplied it to him. He may have been selfrecruited but somebody is backing him up in some way both with money and the weapon. Just really truly impossible to get an am weapon. Its not like the united states. You have to have a network to back this up. I think thats probably what the french was so concerned about at this point. Are there other people out there being handed weapons . And finding the source, right . Finding the source of potential assistance and giving these weapons. Im sure they are on it seeking those answers right now. Bob baer and Martin Savidge, thank you both. The days of republican hopefuls, president ial hopefuls keeping their peace waiting for donald trump to perhaps crash and burn may be a thing of the past here. You have jeb bush and Lindsey Graham both taking turns, taking shots at donald trump. Graham is taking the lead and with good reason. A poll conducted in his home state, trump is outpacing the field 30 among republicans. Ben carson is ranked at number two. Quite a bit back is jeb bush at 9 . Senator graham is at 4 . Come to South Carolina and ill beat his brains out. I know my state. He is shallow, hes ill prepared to be commander in chief. He says the worst things possible about immigrants and women and hes a complete idiot when it comes to mideast policy. So i think over time, commonsense will prevail. Hes a showman. Hes really good at that. So you have that. Then, jeb bush had words and it was clear who he was talking about. Im not a talker. Im a doer. Theres a lot of really good talkers running for president and theres one in particular im thinking of. [ applause ] i appreciate the comment but im 62 years old. When i was 17 years old, i fell in love and its going to be really hard for me to get lectured to by anybody about the politics of immigration. Lets talk about trump. I am m. J. Lee and then in washington, bob cusack, editorinchief of the hill. M. J. , let me turn to you. I was talking to senator graham and he said its time to punch back. This seems like chapter two of the field fighting back. Right. There is an open war right now against donald trump within the republican field. Theres no question about that. Its fascinating, when trump first got in the race, you remember, the candidates seemed unsure how to deal with him. They were all pretty positive with one another. Yeah. Even when trump was making inflammatory comments about john mccain, you sensed that the candidates were wanting to tread lightly using words like, the party should stay together. Those days are over. We have candidates going out openly and saying that trump is not great for the party and willing to really go there because trump is on the attack and not to mention trump is not somebody that the other candidates can ignore anymore because hes been leading the poll for a sustained number of weeks. Let me read to you what trump said on twitter, to senator graham, who told everyone his personal cell phone number. C congrats, you just got 4 points in your home state of South Carolina. Youre only 26 points behind me. What do you think donald trump is hoping to gain from doing that . Obviously they are punching back. Whats the point here . In politics, the most effective punch is the counterpunch and donald trump is really, really good at that. He seems to be one step ahead of jeb bush, Lindsey Graham. Hes getting all of the media attention. Will it last . Who knows. Ill tell you, a lot of republicans ive talked to say jeb bush not going after donald trump in the first debate may have been a mistake. Hes solidifying his grip on the lead. Were still in the summer but approaching labor day and politicians are getting worse. And then when you look at jeb bush and we showed him live speaking in english and spanish, i feel like im seeing a much more fiery jeb bush which i think of a lot of other republicans. Jeb bush said today, quote, he doesnt need to be lectured about immigration. We can assume hes talking to donald trump. Right. This has to be, i imagine, a new trstrategy for jeb bush to really boom, right . Yes. Trump is like, i dont want to read your book. That wont be exciting. And they want to create this excitement and enthusiasm. So when trump is going after bush and say, youre just not exciting. Youre a boring guy, you know youre getting under his skin. You go after Lindsey Graham and how badly hes doing in his home state of South Carolina, thats going to hurt him, too. Politically today, the debate moderator megyn kelly, trump has attacked kelly just in the last 24 hours since shes gotten back from vacation. Even before her show was over last night, trump tweeted, i liked the kelly file much better without megyn kelly. Perhaps she can take another 11 day unscheduled vacation. He then tweeted the word bimbo. Brian stelter, let me read a statement from fox news president roger ales issued a few minutes ago. Donald trump surprised an unprovoked attack against megyn kelly while on the air last night and she represents the best of journalism and all of us at fox news reject the irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise. Donald trump rarely apologizes although in this case he should. We have never been deterred by politicians or anyone else attacking us for doing our job, much less allowed ourselves to be bullied by anyone and were certainly not going to start now. So trump goes after kelly again. Roger ailes is responding here and you just got a response from donald trump. Its like a pingpong match. It really is. Trump says hes not apologizing and doesnt think that megyn kelly is a quality journalist. Hopefully in the future ill be wrong and shell live up to foxs standards. The idea that hes responding instantaneously goes to show you that were in a realtime feedback loop. Starting last night, trump firing off his nasty tweets against her. Now weve seen a lot of fox news stars coming out in her support and, most importantly, roger ailes coming to her defense as well. We did a whole segment on the truce. Everyone would have thought. Well, the truce is over. Ailes feels that trump is being disgraceful. Big question if hell be back on fox any time soon. What is in it for trump . Im just guessing here. I wish i could get into his brain. But i think he has a lot of fans that think hes right and in the clear. Maybe hes only hearing from his supporters and not hearing from his detractors. Thats just my guess but im not sure hes hearing from all of the people who think his attacks on megyn kelly is going to hurt him. After the debate in cleveland we all thought, is this going to be the moment that brings down donald trump when he talked about the blood comments. Remember the week before it was the breastfeeding bit and then this. And then the polls came out and it did affect his standing in the polls. For him, what does he have to lose . If he feels like i have the supporters on my side, particularly within the conservative community, then what does he have to lose . And in his statement he says, im going to be in iowa tonight, ill be live on other networks. Bob cusack, i imagine youre still following all of this along and im wondering, to your point, so much in politics is about the counterpunch. One of the reason perhaps he resonates with so manner americans is people see donald trump as a successful billionaire businessman, whether its jeb bush, roger ailes, this is a guy thats not afraid to pick a fight. Im surprised that this fight is once again on. We thought it was done and buried and donald trump last night started it again. I could see it as some part of a distraction but theres got to be a reason why hes doing it and maybe its about the headlines. Hes dominating all types of coverage in print and on cable and maybe thats the driving force and taking on the media and megyn kelly, certainly popular but the media is never popular so maybe he thinks its a winwin. Bob cusack, thank you so much. Brian stelter, m. J. Lee, thank you all. The plot thicken sdps. So it continues. I cannot wait to head to the reagan library. The next debate airs september 16th. Well be there. Coming up next, though, markets, look at the green bouncing back today after major losses. Yesterday, the dow doing much, much better than yesterday. You can call it tuesday turnaround, just a day after the dow suffered huge losses left investors feeling a tad jittery, maybe sort of anxious. The dow bouncing back in a huge way. Up 24 a 5 points thanks in large part to china slashing its Interest Rates and concerns about the slow downs send markets around the world plunging. So lets bring in our cnn business correspondents, Global Economic analyst, also the assisting manager of time. Less than an hour and a half to go. Im loving the green on the screen. Yes, we love this. Keep the green. I read your piece for time and you point to how really we havent all recovered from what happened in 2008. Yeah. You talk about how so many governments with holding our debt and the solution creates real growth the oldfashion way. Yeah. What does that mean . It means actually making stuff and creating jobs and raising wages. What is interesting about what has happened in china and in the markets in the last couple of days, its the echos of 2008. Still . Still. Its amazing. Eight years on. What happened was, right after 2008, American Consumers stopped spending. Somebody had to pick up that slack and that somebody was china.
