And hollywood grinds to a halt as actors join writers on the picket line. How long it could go on and what it could mean for your favorite shows. And the Mega Millions jackpot soars again. We tell you how much a Winning Ticket is worth. Plus powerball is no slouch either. How much is up for grabs there. An extreme weekend is headed our way with 45 Million People under heat alerts. Temperatures in phoenix have reached 110 degrees fahrenheit every day this month. Thats forced a lot of businesses and parks to close or reduce their hours. It could be deadly. National parks across the west and southwest are warning hikers about the dangerous heat. The death valley sight is warning people. The zoo in california is closed to visitors tomorrow. Its one of the Busiest Travel Seasons of the year. Lets go now to meteorologist brandon miller. Obviously the heat is intense. Its dangerous. When is there going to be some relief . Any time soon . Not any time soon. The heat dome has been seemingly for weeks. Going back to the beginning, middle of june, this heat dome has sort of sat there. It hasnt broken down. It sort of meandered from east to west, texas to arizona, but it just hasnt broken. Its stronger at times, weaker at times. Right now definitely stronger. I know what youre thinking. Its july, its the desert, and its going to be hot. This right here is why we care. The temperatures are above that hot average. The hottest time of the year, its going to be 100 seemingly. You add 10 to 15 degrees. Thats how much above average we are to that. A lot of the country is actually average in the north and northeast or even below average. Enjoy that, guys. The people in the west would certainly love to have that, but this is not going to break any time soon in the southwest. Again, its going to meander again. What does it turn into . It turns into 100plus record temperatures. Stretching all the way to florida. Dont forget florida. Theyre setting records. We know oceans are record hot. But all the way to the west, the records are just adding up. You said it. 85 million americans. Thats one in four. In the west, its pretty much four in four. Californias getting in it for the first time all year. Stay inside if youve got access to an ac. Thats the best relief. Brandon mill e ther, thank you much. People in arizona have endured scorching heat for two weeks in a row. Cnn correspondent lucy kafanov reports. Good morning. Whats different about this particular heatwave is how intensitys been. How many consecutive days weve seen of temperatures at 110 degrees or above. Its expected to get much higher than that this weekend, and those are dangerous conditions. The other problem is the temperatures dont really cool down enough at night and so it makes for a very stifling and uncomfortable environment. The city of phoenix is taking this Climate Change and the heat issue incredibly seriously. We spoke to the citys Chief Heat Czar and he is warning that this heatwave could be deadly. Take a listen. Unfortunately in our region and many thousands more across the United States, heat is fatal. Its something the public needs, and it can impact people. Nobody is immune. Reporter in these extreme temperatures, small mistakes can be deadly. We suffolk one staff member at the phoenix Childrens Health hospital how parents should be on the lookout for stroke illness and Heat Sickness but also not to leave their kids in the car. Take a listen. Parents think its not going to happen to me. Im not going to ever leave my kid in a vehicle. It could happen to anybody. Most folks are trying to stay indoors, but there are obviously jobs where you cant avoid it. We spent the day with a crew yesterday who was busy running around phoenix installing airconditioning units including one Emergency Call at a womens shelter where that airconditioner unit could mean the difference between life and death. Take a listen. Were slammed. We got calls all day. Its an Emergency Call. For those who are less fortunate who might not have access to a working airconditioner, keep in mind that phoenix does have a very Large Population of people who are experiencing homelessness. The city has opened up dozens and dozens of Cooling Centers for folks to be able to get a little bit of relief. Back to you. In italy, Health Officials have issued an extreme Health Risk Warning for 15 cities including rome and morris. People in the mediterranean are used to the heat and its excessive. I wonder if ac is as common in italy. Reporter yeah, you know, that is one of the biggest pro problems. In europe just 10 of the population has airconditioning. Certainly not every home has airconditioning here. There are so many people here, so many tourists. Rome is bursting. This is the hottest part of the year always, but this year has been relentless, and today is the coolest day its going to be for the next five and today is absolutely hot. Weve got a lot of tourists here in rome from Northern Europe and the United States that are just shocked by this temperature. We got sound from a couple of them. Lets hear what they have to say. Theres a lot of people. Hopefully no one will suffer any illness. Its a very intense heat index. The heat is hard, but we orr going to push through it. I dont know when ill ever be back, so im taking advantage of the day, yep, stay hydrated, wear a hat, and take breaks when you can. And, you know, you listen to them. They probably plan their vacation for months if not years to come to rome and enjoy the beautiful city and be very disappointed to staly locked inside a hotel room. There are fountains throughout the city. You can fill up your water bottles. It costs a couple of hundred dollars to jump in the fountain behind me, but there are other things you can do to stay cool. Joining us now is dr. Matthew levy, associate professor of special medicine. Doctor, welcome to the program and thanks for being with us. One thing if its heat. Its another thing the duration of the heat, which in some parts of country has lasted weeks. What kind of constant stresses does that put on someones body . Good morning. You hit the nail right on the head. What were talking about is this prolonged period of sustained heat. At periods of time where historically the body could adjust to the heat and at least in the evenings have a chance to cool off, but where theres no break and the temperatures remain high, the body remains under increased stress and emergency workload and that can be especially challenging for people with Chronic Health conditions, age, and a couple of other risk factors. What happens in the risk . Sure. Our bodies are remarkably evolved to retain optical and sustainable conditions for our organs to try to do their work. Our bodies try to maintain that degree of balance, if you will. The body systems have to work extra hard. The hotter it is, the greater the temperatures the body is exposed to. That pushes a Fizz Logic Demand on the heart, lung, kidneys, and other organs. There can be a demand the hotter the body gets as it tries to maintain itself and it can further affect ones heat and Hydration Status and put them at illness. Whats a good rule of thumb as youre trying to assess roys safe to be out in these temperatures . I really think we have to heed the warnings of our meteorological experts and officials and say, you know, really think about the risk benefit of what were doing. What you have to do, need to do, versus want to do, and take those steps to be safe. I think there are some things we can modify. Duration of activities outside, the essential necessity of doing things outside. Then we have to weigh that out with the potential risk of developing heatrelated illness. Not only that, we have to think about the impact of our actions on those around us. In terms of assessing how much is too much, what are some Warning Signs perhaps in your body that you may want to get inside, you may want to get a drink of water and intervene across the threshold before things become more serious . Yes. First and foremost, dont ignore your body. If youre feeling like youre thirsty, youve probably already fallen behind on Hydration Status. Staying hydrated. Staying prehydrated is one of the most important things you can do. But as heat illness evolves in the body, the headaches, cramps, body aches, these are Warning Signs that your body is needing some help. Heeding warnings, getting inside in time, increasing your Hydration Status, replacing your electrolytes are all important steps and heat illness can rapidly progress. Think thats important to remember. You can go from not feeling too well to having someone particularly with an underlying medical condition entering a condition of lifethreatening heatstroke very quickly. I think these are great tips especially for folks who may not have an airconditioner, may have to work outside, be outside, important to at least heed the warnings internally. Dr. Matthew levy, thanks for being on with us this morning. Police in new york believe theyve cracked a decadesold killing cold case. They arrested an architect. Com President Biden raked in 72 million in the First Quarter of fundraising since launching his reelection bid. That could ease concerns about his fundraising abilities and the slow start to his campaign. Bidens fundraising hall is more than any other contender but its also less than the record 86 million than obama raised in his First Quarter. Lets bring in jasmine write. What more are we learning about how much money the president raised and also who donated it. The one thing that these numbers will do as victor just said is really satisfy some of the Donor Concerns that the sluggest campaign was kicking off to and the lack of Voter Enthusiasm weve seen in the polls. While 72 million is a res respectable number, it not the showstopper. Youre right. Its more than any other contender posted in the quarter. That certainly pleased this campaign. Now, when we talk about comparisons getting into those nittygritty numbers. The 86 million is a big comparison to the fact that what biden raised in this is less than that. But when you talk to campaign officials, the first thing out of their month is the fact he was running for reelection less than three weeks earlier in that quarter saying president obama had a threeweek start. The Biden Campaign actually raised more per day. Still the fact is that 72 million is less and also the fact that now in 2023 individual contributors can contribute about 800 more than they were able to in 2011. Another comparison when we go Down The Line is when we talk about individual donors. In 2011 President Biden had about 550,000 individual donors for a quarter too. This time President Biden has about 400,000. So still a little bit less. Now when you talk to campaign officials, t
