i feel like i've got to keep up with what's going on with the younger people, because they're selling records, they're dominating the record business. if i'm going to be in, i've got to hear what they're doing in order to compete with them. so i do that. all the time. i listen to everybody. >> is there a process for coming up with a tune or does it just spring out of your head? >> no, no, there's really no formula, man. there's no this comes first or whatever. i could see a billboard sign, sitting there, oh, that would be a great song. or, i'm not a writer that needs to go and go to the mountains for two months so i can write some songs and isolate myself so no one can bother me. it doesn't happen for me like that. you could say something in this interview that would trigger something, i might give you credit later on -- >> i was going to say, i'd like credit, i'd like a percentage. does the lyrics come first or the tune, or not always one or the other? >> not always one other other, man. you know, it's happenstance. whatever comes first comes first.
