suspected chemical weapons attack sites. what are syrians telling you what's happened? >> reporter: that's interesting. when we talk about this we have to keep in mind i'm of course reporting from the government controlled part of syria and therefore a lot of people we speak to are simp thet toik the government. i went to the border areas and the people there told me that they didn't feel any affects of chemicals on their bodies. they didn't feel as though they have trouble breathing or anything of that nature. however, they did acknowledge that on the morning of last wednesday when all this apparently happened there was a large-scale military offensive going on there and other people we've been speaking to here in syria saying they visited the areas and did confirm there was a chemical used that masses of people were dying, other people were having trouble breathing. it is impossible to independently verify what might have happened there, what sort of chemical agent might have been used there and who used it.
