Demeaning process. And very demeaning on the other side. And they want to make you look as bad as possible. And of course the press can be very demeaning, too. But im sure the press will be very dignified in this case. Thats the word. I think hes a very dignified man. Id like to see him go through a dignified process. I think he deserves that. Hopefully it will go quickly. And well see what happens. So what we might do is just that, we might ask for the folks in the room just to give yourself a quick, your name and a little introduction. And, wayne, i would say they know you, perhaps they know you better than they know me. I doubt that. Wayne, national association. Nance, ceo and president of concerned women for america. Im sharmane yosta with american havevalues. Thank you, mr. President , for this nomination. Thank you. Great job. Thank you. Tom with the u. S. Chamber of congress. Congratulation on a fantastic nomination. Thank you very much. Norquist, americans for tax reform and thank you for the election. Do a good job for you. Leonard, federal [ inaudible ] david eustein, life. Thank you for a quick, excellent nomination. Thank you. Thank you. Paula white, chairman of the evangelical adviser counsel. Thank you. Thank you for the help during the campaign. So with that ill ask you to thank you. No question, mr. President . No. As you pointed out last night, confirmed yunanimous s you pointed out last night confirmed unanimous voice of 2006. Now a number of democrats say theyre going to oppose you. What would you say to those democrats and would you encourage senator mcconnell who vote the Nuclear Option if he feels he cant get 60 votes . I think theres a certain dishonesty if they go against their vote from not very long ago and he did get a yunanimous endorsement. You cant do better frommen educational, from experience, from any standpoint. A great judge. He will be a great justice. So, no, i feel that its very dishonest if they go back on that. And, yes, if we end up with the same gridlock that theyve had in washington for the last longer than eight years, in all fairness to president obama, a lot longer than eight years. If we end up with that gridlock i would say if you can, mitch, go nuclear. Because that would be an absolute shame if a man of this quality was caught up in the web. I would say its up to mitch. But i would sago for it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That of course the president of the United States donald trump meeting with groups in support of his nomination for the Supreme Court, neil gorsuch. The president saying he is a dignified man who sde serves a dignified process, elegant process was the words that the president used as well. Called mr. Gorsuch a good student, of great intellect. Theres word the hearings could start the confirmations formally could begin in about six weeks. Again, the president surrounded by a group of supporters of his nomination to replace on the Supreme Court antonin scalia. Lets listen now to the senate floor where senator Mitch Mcconnell is speaking. Judge gorsuch didnt just clerk for one Supreme Court justice, he clerked for two. They were justices nominated by president s of different political parties. Anthony kennedy, a reagan appointee, and byron white, who was nominated by jfk. Judge gorsuch received a unanimously well qualified rating by the American Bar Association when he was nominated to his current position on the court of appeals. He was confirmed without any votes in opposition. Thats right. Madam president , not a single democrat opposed judge gorsuch as confirmation. Not senator barack obama, not senator hillary clinton, not senators joe biden or ted kennedy. In fact, not a single one of the democrats who still serve with husband opposed him including a Ranking Member of the judiciary committee, senator feinstein were going to continue to monitor that. Senator Mitch Mcconnell on the senate floor as the debate clearly has begun over the president s choice of neil gorsuch for the Supreme Court to replace antonin scalias seat. Of course, Justice Scalia passing away, creating the opening there and the president s nomination of neil gorsuch will be a hotly conte contested one. Fiercely debated in the hearings that could begin in about six weeks time. I want to welcome all of you to the Halftime Report. Im scott wapner. Our top trade in terms of the market today is apple but it is sort of impossible to ignore the events that are taking place over the last 24 lohours. Certainly the many days in the nations capital. Apple for its part had a strong quarter. The stock is trading at its highest level in more than a year. We wonder whether its too late to get in or not but, you know, its sort of impossible to do a segue off of that to straight up apple. Since i have kevin oleary and the crew here with me, carrie fire seen, jon najarian, josh brown. A comment, kevin, if you would what youve witnessed taking place in the last several days in the context of the rally where earnings for us remain front and center and apple is clearly the lead story today but as we have one eye on apple and the stock market we have no choice but to have one on 1600 pennsylvania avenue as well. So im going to take a swipe at this from the context of the tech sector. We started with apple. Lets not talk about a the stock. Be lets talk about coders and technology gists working here in the u. S. That are from those seven countries on the list. A little politics here and then talk about earnings as a result of that. Many of them are green cards. Some of them in their second, seven years, second cycle. They cant go home anymore, they cant leave. They dont know their status. These are seasoned professionals. And mexico and canada are talking about setting up coding Technology Centers because they dont have country lists, to move new coders, new technologists into americanowned facilities in the canadian jurisdiction, ward waterloo, calgary, same near mexico city. To allow those people that, you know, this list of countries and then the next list because the president has promised to start scrutinizing these lists. This is going to be very interesting because its a different way of thinking about risk of your employee turnover. Thats what im looking at. Some suggestion that maybe apple would be one of the companys joining some of the others in the lawsuit over this travel ban policy. But if you look at the quarter itself that apple delivered, we were just showing something that said the best quarter ever for services, the stock is at its highest level, carrie, in a year and a half. Its up 6 today. Weve been debating the issue almost every day leading up to this report as to whether the best days are behind apple. Whether it was too late to get in. Whether you should bait for a pullback. If you were waiting for a pullback you missed your chance today. I dont think its too late. We own apple and we like it. Remember, there have been several disappointing quarters in a row at apple and so expectations were extremely m mode modest. No one thought the revenues would be up 5 and the 5 the shipments of the iphone were up earnings beat, revs beat, iphones beat. Most importantly to me is that the asp on that phone has gone up. Its 695. And one would have thought that to sell as many as they do there would be price pressure and there just hasnt been. If pete was here, doc, he would be saying hi lighting what tim cook he would be highlighting what tim cook said. Quest bauer ever for services. Looking at that as a key area of future growth, though the present looks pretty darn good, too. Yeah. Present looks phenomenal for apple. Apple is really hitting it hard. Pete has been a longtime believer. Im a guy who gets in and out, stick and move, stick and move. More like a boxer. Petes just been, you know, carrying this thing for three, four, five years just holding on to it. You bought calls going into the print. I bought calls into the print because they were buying the 121 calls yesterday. Aggressively. So just out of the money calls, and they were buying them in big numbers late in the day. So i bought back in, too, along with pete. The previous quarter, judge, the number after basically a match on revenue and earnings, the stock fell 4 in over the next week fell another 10, over the next two weeks, rather, to 10. 104. They werent pricing in much of a move yesterday. 3. 6 or Something Like that. Weve almost doubled that on the move so far here today. So i told the folks that i thought they werent bricing in properly, the potential that pete talks about all the time. Services could be as well as iphone sales because of the samsung missteps. Theyre tripling their 30day average volume today. Lets talk about services number. The premise about why you would buy apple long is that the margins on services are through the roof. It grew 18 . They printed over 7 billion. That tells me in this calendar year were going to see a tenski, 10 billion in services. Thats why you own this stock. Josh said it the other day a few times. I remember. Bullish. Ill just pick up where youre leaving off. Tony sacconaghsacconaghi, top r analyst on this stock, i dont know if he would say you own it because of the services. You still own it and i think they put up the reason why you own it. You still own it for the phone. I maxed out of 5 of my portfolio. I had to sell apple because its getting too big. Dont you still own it for the phone . Look, i think the phone is just a platform. I love the aspb over 600 bucks, i like that. These Services Margins are so succulent, so tasty, so rich this is a new story for apple that we were only six months ago saying poopoo this stock. Consumer electronics is going into the toilet. Not so. You were one of them. You dumped it for microsoft. I came back in because i know when i made a mistake. 5 waiting in this thing because their numbers are showing fantastic growth. By the way, the istore, you know, the app store up 40 . Thats an old story. Contrition from the shark today. Like it. You know, i have to tell the truth. When its working its working. Josh . Yeah, no, just like for the last six months im listening to people say were cutting this to a neutral. Its 118, it should be 112. Im saying to myself this is now a company that has 246 billion in cash. This is historic. There is never been a business in World History that has had the financial wherewithal that apple has. People talk about, what are they going to do about, you know, the next user interface is going to be voice and are they going to be there and what about the car, what about tv . Apple literally could do whatever its wants. Weiss was dumping all over this thing the other day. Yeah. So this was, right . No innovation. Right, sure. So you this is an actual stat. They did 10,000 of revenue every second over the last quarter. So anyone can say whatever they want. Youve got buffett buying this stock for the first time ever. Youve got Dividend Increase with all this cash . Buffetts peeps are buying it. Berkshire. Look, at the end of the day there is no other company like this. Im not going to say its going to grow the way it did in 2010, 2011, 2012, however its up 116 over the last five years. So all the people saying its too big, its best days behind it, not yet. Not yet. 130 bucks. Its going to knock it 130. You say its not too late. No, it isnt. To buy this stock. Its a cheap multiple stock. Under 14 times earnings. Sells at a nice discount to the market. Theyre a leel beneficiary of changes and regulation and repatriation of dollars. I think you can make a chase the stock goes up 20 this year easily. About 20 . You buy that one . You agree with that . Well, i would not i would not buy carry or apple. Now that theyve got kevin back on, too. Wait a minute. So so people are skeptical, right. Now they put up a print and everybody is like, oh, come on. No, none of us here on the desk were short it though, right . I mean, when you say, well, you didnt believe in it. True. I mean, you know, as they say about breakfast, judge, the chicken makes a contribution, the pig makes a commitment. Well, youre commit fed youre long the stock. So, pete was committed. Long the stock. And i got in late. And some of you jumped karens been in for a long time. What i saw was a phenomenal quarter. I dont see a reason to be short the stock. I know a lot of people on twitter come at me today and say i got to sell it here. Fine, profits. But i dont hear anybody say i want to be short . If this name is run past your hurdle and 5 anyone naming a portfolio is foolish. Youve already sold 3 of your waiting in the last two weeks which ive done. It makes me cry to sell a winner but i so like it when the thing corrects that sooif taken some off the table. Thats why im a disciplined investor. I think a div increase is in the future. 264 billion, i would say youre right. Stock story of the day, no doubt. Up nearly 6 . Again, the best level for apple in about a year and a half. Thanks in part to apple, tech has been the trade of the year so far. You notice that . The nasdaq is up 5 year to date. Thats more than double the output of the s p 500. Being these are not quotes, unquote, trump trade like, you know, these are these have nothing to do with trump trade. Some do in terms of repatriation. You can make that story about anything though. These are not part of the preferred industries that people were talking about. Nasdaq 100, 6 gain year to date. Nasdaq itself, 5. S p is up 2. Dow, 1. Russells flat. There are a lot of, you know, somewhat more obscure leaders out of the nasdaq 100. Not that these are obscure companies. But its not like were talking about apple and some of the others leading the charge. Thats kind of the point im making here. But what do you do with tech . Look at the leaders. There are some quite stories out there. I was talking before the show with jon about nvidia which has been a favorite of the show for about 100 now. And amd, in all the same businesses. Chip, virtual reality, driveless car, et cetera. That is the hottest stock of the day. Its up 14 . That stock was in the wilderness for a decade. Forever. Forever. Now it talks cars and now its sizzling hot. Fang, year to date. Were going to talk about facebook with mahaney in a minute. Up 14 . Amazon is ten. Netflix is up 14. Fangs are back. These stocks were all down in the Fourth Quarter. Theres just been a shift back to the norm to some extent. We had the financials and the Energy Stocks on fire in the Fourth Quarter and they are two groups that have lagged. Energy is down almost 4 . Weve reverted to the mean. And youre buying growth. When you buy the stocks that were talking about on the tech side. That just makes sense in an environment where the president says he wants more growth. These are the guys who are going to give it to him. Amd is up 7 today. Thats joshs point with the chip, judge, is that and he made a fabulous call, give me friend credit for it. Because he made a fabulous call on nvidia last year. He made that call. Yep. This one, amd, i was pulling up, weve had unusual activity almost every day in the month of january for this name. Now, in particular i said 7 . Its up almost 14 . Its going nuts right now. 450 year over year. This name in the past two weeks has traded the whole months worth of volume each of the past two weeks. So, i mean, theres so much interest in this name getting into it. Thats why on a day like today when it explodes to the upside, and again, i didnt call this one. Josh did. But this is extremely bullish for that stock. Disclosure, im long the name for the few weeks now. The thing with amd is they did the secondary. They did it in september. Stock had a runup. Strike while the iron is hot. They did it. New ceo. This is not a pc chip company anymore. This is now a company thats selling to alibaba, selling the google. This is whole new ball game for this stock. To kevins point, left for dead for almost ten years. Priced for bankruptcy as recently as last year. Whole new story now, the people waking up to. How come they can do the transition to this new vision including cars which is the hot sector and intel is still considered a pc chip company . How is that possible . Why cant they completely chameleonize themselves for more . Its the same story. You know, its not it doesnt have the innovation around new markets like car and all of these other platforms that amd, which was a dog that howled at hell for so long lets not look. You have to go after this on intel. 19 in a year is not much to sneeze at on intel. Its not getting part of whats happening with amd is pe expansion. The future is bright and the chip is going to be in every single hardware platform around. You cant really say that about intel. Im not complaining but whats the next story. Why arent they in other stuff other than just cloud . Critical tech earnings could very well decide whether the sector continues to run. Facebook and amazon both on tap to deliver their results. With a look at what to expect, mark mahaney with cnbc. Welcome back. Scott. Fangs are back, yeah . Yeah, it looks like it. We did as somebody commented, they ended up correcting the december quarter so weve had a nice rally back. And we think the fundamental results that they print, you know, facebook tonight and amazon tomorrow night and netflix a week and a half ago they will justify the rally in those shares year to date. We like the set up on facebook going into print. They warned people about Revenue Growth deceleration and aggressive op ex investing environment. I think thats more than encapsulated in street estimates. This is one of the cheaper entry points youve had on facebook shares since the ipo. We like it. Your target is 170. Ive heard look, its hard to get a pushback on facebook almost everybody likes it. Its just a question of i do occasionally hear how much better can it get. Right . Thats sort of what andrew had brought up at citron several months back. Is that a fair question to ask if youre considering buying the stock here today . I think its a very fair question. This stock has gone through a material d rating. We went from 35 times earnings to almost 20 times earnings in a ninemonth phase. So the market is clearly worried about how sustainable the growth rate is. We are, too, but not as much as the market fears. Im really concerned about with facebook is as you listen to google, as you listen to amazon, these are Companies Across devic devices. They know they need to be everywhere, through voice, through artificial intelligence, on p
