And well speak to a woman who says she was sexually harassed by the former fox news star bill oreilly. Hello. Welcome to cornwall. We are pretty much in the middle of the county, and we are just off the much in the middle of the county, and we arejust off the high and we are just off the high street, in the main square, a small, pretty square. We are talking to all sorts of people here ahead of the General Election. We are asking about the things they care about with 30 days to go. A lot of people say they dont have a great deal of time for politicians. They feel pretty forgotten, actually. Geographically, they are 300 miles away from westminster. We will hear from pledge of them this morning in detail. Wherever you are, get in touch. What issues do you care most about ahead of this General Election . We will hear from about ahead of this General Election . We will hearfrom more about ahead of this General Election . We will hear from more of you after the news. Our top story today, the conservatives have confirmed they intend to cap Energy Prices for people on standard variable rates if they win the election. Theresa may has suggested the move could save around 17 million customers up to £100 a year. But labour says the cap would not stop bills rising and the pledge has drawn criticism from the industry. Heres our Political Correspondent ben wright. Energy prices have been hot politics for some time. At the last election, labour promised a two year price freeze. Now, the conservatives want to intervene in an Energy Market they say doesnt work for most people. Writing in the sun, the Prime Minister says rip off Energy Prices hit people on the lowest incomes hardest. Switching to another tariff or supplier often brings bills down, but seven out of ten households are on standard variable rates, which are usually more expensive than other plans on offer. So, the conservatives would give 0fgem the power to impose a Price Ceiling for customers on these standard rates. The cap would be reset every six months, and the conservatives say it would reduce gas and electricity bills by around £100 a year. The point of getting the regulator to assess this is if, for example, the wholesale price of gas goes up in world markets, of course you would expect that to increase. If the price goes down, as it did in the past, you would expect the price to go down. That is why it is sensible to put it in the hands and this is what the Competition Authority recommended for Prepayment Meters of the regulator. The conservatives say the price cap would allow competition to continue in the market. But the lib dems say the policy would damage investment in energy, while labour said a cap would not stop prices increasing. British gas Owner Centrica warned the move could lead to higher bills and reduce competition. Ben wright, bbc news, westminster. 0ur Political Correspondent chris mason is at westminster. Give us the Roundabout Fortheringay . What is really striking about this idea is, if you are thinking to yourself this morning, this ring is a bit ofa yourself this morning, this ring is a bit of a bell, the answer is yes. Here is the labour manifesto from 2015. Page 25, we will ensure that bills can fall, but not rise, and we will give the regulator the power to cut bills this winter. The promised to Freeze Energy Bills until 2017. The conservatives say their idea is more subtle, more crafted and nuanced, not as crude. But there are some voices within the conservatives, including i understand around the cabinet table, who suggested to the Prime Minister that this idea was a little bit too crude. In many senses, it is not very conservative. It is a big intervention in the market. Theresa may and others make the argument that they want to be on the side of consumers. They believe this is the right thing to do. I think there is another example, and we saw it yesterday with the Prime Minister standing in front of posters saying theresa mays team, with conservatives threaten very small at the bottom, that it is all about theresa may and a sense that her brand, if you like, trumps the conservative one and she outperforms her own party, so they will very much Push Herfront and centre. They wa nt to much Push Herfront and centre. They want to draw the contrast, as they say it, between her and Jeremy Corbyn. Jeremy corbyn will formally launch labours Election Campaign today by saying that his party is not trying to find a way to keep britain in the european union. Mr corbyn, wholl be in greater manchester, will say the issue of brexit is settled. Hell be joined by the citys new metro mayor andy burnham and will focus on labours pledge to take on the rich and powerful. A multi Million Pound trial launches today to assess whether statins taken by millions of people every year to reduce the risk of Heart Attacks and strokes may also help those with multiple sclerosis. Ms affects the Central Nervous system and can cause Mobility Problems. Its Thought Statins could help slow the progression of the condition, as sarah smith reports. Statins prescribed to six million of us every year to lower cholesterol. But in the coming months, a major new trial will test whether they could help tackle a condition which can wreak devastation on sufferers. Multiple sclerosis causes the Immune System to attack the lining of the nerves, disrupting messages travelling along nerve fibres. It can mean increasing levels of disability. More than 100,000 people in the uk have ms. Half will develop the secondary, progressive stage. There is currently no treatment to slow its progress and this trial, involving more than 1,000 people, is aimed at them. If we can prove it has a long term impact, long term results for people with ms, we know its safety record, its extremely cheap, so it could be quickly made available to everyone that needs it and it wont put a big hole in the nhs budget. A previous, smaller study suggested statins did have an impact. This trial will provide much more information. But, at six years long, it will be some time before its known just how effective statins could be. Sarah smith, bbc news. A woman who alleges she was sexually harassed at fox news has asked uk Media Regulators to block 21st Century Foxs planned purchase of sky. 0fcom is investigating whether its in the Public Interest for the murdoch owned company to take full ownership of sky. 0ur Media Editor amol rajan reports. For the threats we face today. Over two decades, a mixture of conspiracy, aggression and nationalism has made Rupert Murdochs Fox News Channel the most watched Cable News Network in america. But this huge corporate scandal has shaken fox news to the core. The networks former boss, roger ailes, departed last year and anchor bill 0reilly left last month. They are both denying extensive sexual and racial harassment allegations. Also gone, though not facing the same allegations, is co president bill shine. So, arguably the three most important men at fox are out. For the murdochs, the timing couldnt be worse. They are currently trying to take full control of the british broadcaster sky, through an acquisition by 21st Century Fox. They declined an interview request, so i said hello to the boss as he left work in manhattan. Im from the bbc. Are you worried about 0fcom, at all . No. You should be worried about the bbc as well. I said, sorry, i cant do that. Radio host wendy walsh, seen here with lawyer lisa bloom, filed a complaint against 0reilly by phone. The two women flew from los angeles to london specifically to explain to 0fcom why, in their view, the murdochs are not fit and proper to own sky outright. 21st Century Fox, parent of fox news, says it has taken prompt and Decisive Action to improve its workplace, overhauling top management and appointing women to several senior positions. This is cctv footage showing the moment a ship hit a huge crane in one of the worlds busiest ports in dubai. 10 people were left with minor injuries. An investigation is under way. Lets get some sport. Chelsea are nearly there . Chelsea are one win away from the Premier League title. They beat middlebrough 3 0 last night at Stamford Bridge a result that also saw boro relegated. Diego costa, Marcos Alonso and Nemanja Matic scored the chelsea goals and the task is very simple now because they play again before their title rivals spurs. If they can beat West Bromwich albion on friday then they would go ten points clear in the table and they would be champions with two games to spare. It was very important to win and to exploit their defeat. Yeah, we must be pleased now. Another step, another step to win the title. For sure, now its important to rest very well and to prepare for the west brom game. Sulley muntari has called on uefa and fifa to prove that they are serious about tackling racism. He called on the Governing Bodies to prove they are serious about tackling the issue. Were playing football here, under fifa, under uefa. If they had nothing to say about it, probably they didnt have tv on their side. Or maybe they ran out of internet. Thats why they didnt comment. But if it is unnecessary things for them. But this is a big deal. This is really a big deal. Racism is a big deal. Remember yesterday we were looking forward to the match between Maria Sharapova and eugenie bouchard. The candaian has been one of the most outspoken critics of sharapovas return to tour after a 15 month doping ban she called her a cheater and wanted the russian banned for life. So that was the background to their second round match at the madrid 0pen yesterday. It lasted three hours and bouchard won in three sets and she celebrated as if shed won the tournament. It clearly meant an awful lot to her and she revealed afterwards that there were a lot of fellow players who were willing her on as well. I was actually quite inspired before the match because i had a lot of players coming up to me privately, wishing me good luck, players i dont normally speak to. Getting a lot of texts from people in the tennis world that were just rooting for me. So i wanted to do it for myself but also all of these people so i really felt support. That is all for now. I will be back with more sport later. Hello, good morning. Welcome to a cloudy and overcast camborne in cornwall. It is a small town in the middle of the county and we are here to talk to people ahead of the General Election. Let me tell you a little bit about the town. The population is about 20,000. One resident described it as faded. Another as a bit old fashioned. Another as a bit old fashioned. Another said it was a bit of a dump. 0n the high street, which is where we are, a small square, as you can see, just off the high street, i can describe what is around us. We have apollo bingo. As you can see, a bingo hall. We have a couple of banks. 0n the high street, which is long, actually, there are two pasty shops, bakeries, a tattoo parlour, the inevitable costa coffee and nine charity or pound shops. That is because there are pockets of deprivation. 2500 children live in poverty in this town. 2596 25 of people have no qualifications, thats compared with 22 across england. 7 of households dont have Central Heating in camborne. 34 of people are in full time work compared to 39 across england. So talking to people here, there are three things that come up here, there are three things that come up one, here, there are three things that come up one, low here, there are three things that come up one, low wages. Here, there are three things that come up one, low wages. Everybody says all thejobs, which come up one, low wages. Everybody says all the jobs, which are pretty much in the retail and Service Sectors are low wages and often seasonal those jobs as well. Two, no Affordable Homes. Exacerbated by wealthy people coming in from outside to buy up second Holiday Homes which pushes the prices up and reduces the supply. Three, a feeling that politicians dont really care about them because they are 300 miles from westminster. So were here to talk to people ahead of the election. Let me take you inside what is a former Reading Institute for gentlemen, now a Day Care Centre for gentlemen, now a Day Care Centre for the over 50s. It was originally for the over 50s. It was originally for the over 60s, but because things got tighter theyve reduced the age to the over 50s and they are considering reducing it to the other 40s as well. Good morning, hi there, isjudith. How are you . Hi everybody. Good morning. You dont have to shush. Dont be daft you dont have to shush. It is our programme let me introduce you to various people. Welcome to our programme. General question, do you feel exercised by this election, do you feel engaged, do you feel passionate . Election, do you feel engaged, do you feel passionate . |j election, do you feel engaged, do you feel passionate . I feel a bit passionate. Im still undecided, but im taking a lot more interest in it. So youre happy with the conservatives in power, are you . feel a lot more confident with this government now than the old government. Do you . Yeah. 0k. What about yourself, rachel . Not particularly. Not particularly engaged . I feel strongly that any candidate that really has passion and determination to improve things for everyone. Are you talking about your local candidates here in Camborne And Redruth or on the National Stage . Both to be honest. What issues are engaging you would you say, laura . Ifeel nationally supportjeremy you say, laura . Ifeel nationally support Jeremy Corbyn. Locally i dont really know so much about kind of the local labour mps that are running. I feel really passionate about the nhs, about education, community, socialist issues. Don, tell us about the kind of people who use your foodbank and why you say camborne needs one . Camborne needs one because its in the top ten of the most deprived areas in europe. 2796 the most deprived areas in europe. 27 of the children live below food poverty in the area. We started a foodbank seven years ago now and it has just increased and increased. We are providing 10,000 meals a month out of our foodbanks. Were open every day. What kind of people do you see . There is a misconception sometimes about foodbanks. Its the people that dont want to work etcetera and benefit scroungers, but were getting a lot of people that are actually working and cannot survive on their income. So youve had to open in the evenings so that you can give food out to people who work during the day . Yes, we do. What kind of jobs work during the day . Yes, we do. What kind ofjobs are those people doing . Theyre reasonable jobs. Skilled builders, Self Employed people, they struggle. There is no work. They havent got a job the they havent got any money. They have got their bills coming in, electric, food, gas, etcetera. Ive got a dad that actually works with threejobs and got a dad that actually works with three jobs and still needs the foodbank. Wow. Three parttime jobs . Three part time jobs and still uses the foodbank. Ive got another dad that eats every other day because hisjob doesnt give that eats every other day because his job doesnt give him that eats every other day because hisjob doesnt give him enough money to survive with him and his family. And what do you think about this . I think in 2017 we need to stand up to the plate and sort these things out and provide good wages around this area, we talk about minimum wage. You know, a lot of people do not get paid the minimum wage. I dont understand that really. Because they should be, but they dont get the minimum wage. 0k. And also didnt you go to a school last year where a 13 Year Old Girl had fainted because she hadnt eaten . We dont normally go out. A school phoned me up and said, we have got a 13 Year Old Girl thats collapsed in the school. Her mum has just come in. The family havent eaten for three days. Mum, dad, three children. Why not . Dad Self Employed, no work, bills it pay, no food. What do you think about that, rachel . Its shocking. Absolutely shocking. Im lost for words at the thought of children being in school in that situation. Steve, you used the foodbank a few yea rs steve, you used the foodbank a few years ago. Tell us why . Because of the sanction i was meant to go to a meeting at the jobcentre and i had childcare issues and because i couldnt bring my daughter to the meeting, even though it was prearranged, thats it, just sanctioned. When you are on benefits that stops your money effectively . was in tears. I was desperate. The foodbank has given me more confidence. Thanks to the people that come in and helped. You volunteer at the food bank . Yes, not as much as i would like. But we have a lot to thank it for. All of the volunteers that help out. We are here to talk to residents of camborne, and we are going to talk to many people through the morning. Jim reid has been here since last wednesday, talking to people around the county. Coming into the daycare centre. Tell us about the last few days. We started in penzance which is in the south west by lands days. We started in penzance which is in the south west by lands end and drove up to the north east of the county, just speaking to people and voters about their concerns, and the interesting thing ifound and voters about their concerns, and the interesting thing i found was that if you read the national papers, this is the brexit election. This is all about the eu. But the people we spoke to said look we feel thats an issue thats Done And Dusted last year. We need to move on from and talk about other things. You touched on them, were talking wages, housing jobs, these are the things that people were telling us matter this year. We made a short film, five, ten minute film about the people we spoke to and you can see today. People are doing quite hard graft work and only getting paid the minimum wage, which, throughout the whole of cornwall, is fundamentally wrong. They want to give their selves, like, a ten grand pay rise, but what about us . You already earn 70 grand, why do you need 80 . They make all these lovely promises, and they never come through with them, so whats the point . 4. 30 in the morning, and the sun is coming up over the cornish coast. 8. 10, 8. 20, 8. 30. At the fish auction in newlyn, the daily catch is bought and sold. The eu has been a big concern here. Many blame it for the decline of ports like newlyn, but there is a sense in this building we have had the brexit vote and now its time to move on. Its like walking through treacle. I think people are starting to wonder when brexit is going to happen. We dont need to be going for brussels for scraps of quotas, and you know, its we are feeling very positive. We dont need a second referendum in your mind . No, definitely not. When it comes to the General Election, there are other concerns. Inside the main Auction Room Sijones has been bidding on mackerel and shrimp. The wages thing is a huge one at the moment. You know, people are doing quite hard graft work, only getting paid the minimum wage, which is throughout the whole of cornwall is fundamentally wrong, you know what i mean . I think we should all have a basic living wage. I find it really difficult to cover all my bills at the end of the month. And you know, i work as much as i can. 0bviously some days its four hours here, some days it might only be two, yesterday it was less than two. So it, there is no consistency to. You never know how much youre going to work. No, you try and do 20 hours or more a week, and sometimes its 15 hours, sometimes its ten hours, you know. So your wages are always changing. Basically, yes. In fact, this part of cornwall has some of the lowest wages in the whole country. Less than £717,000 a year on average. A 20 minute drive up the coast is the treneere estate on the outskirts of penzance. This group are having a break in the back room of the childrens centre, while their kids play next door. My daughters on a waiting list for a nursery. Here again brexit is a concern, but a distant one. There is anger though about the cost of childcare, about jobs and training, and above all, about the nhs. Especially on a saturday night, if you have something wrong with your kid, you are sat in that a e for hours. Theres one hospital in the whole of this side of the county. He was an emergency, they sent an Emergency Ambulance out and i got a phone off the crew saying theres no ambulances in the whole of cornwall and he was three weeks old so they sent me a taxi. They sent you taxi to take your son to hospital . Yes. What was wrong with him . He was bleeding out of his bum, he was vomiting a lot, hes got a milk allergy. He was really really poorly, so they sent me off in a taxi. How did you feel about that . Iwas fuming. But among this group there is a real sense of frustration. That evern if politicians see the problems, nothing is likely to get done. Do you feel that politicians are listening to these concerns . I think theyre listening, but i dont think that theyre doing or even planning to do anything about it. They dont see any of this, they dont, like, feel any of this, they dont go through it. They have enough money to put their kids in education, they have enough money to do all this stuff. You would never see theresa may in a food bank. No. But we have to, because they just dont listen. How likely are all of you to vote in the next General Election . How about you . Very unlikely. Im voting. Youre voting. Yes. Yeah, i want to vote. Are you going to vote, rosie . Im voting. I doubt it. You doubt it. So three of you are going to vote and two of you arent. The two that arent, what reasons would you have for not voting this time round gemma . Just because i believe they dont listen. I believe itjust doesnt make a difference. As long as theyre all right and they have their money, and nice houses. They want to give themselves, like, a ten grand pay rise, but what about us . Whats up with that . They already earn 70 grand, why do you need 80 . You know what i mean . Its ridiculous, i have no hope in it at all. Im scared, really, for what its going to be like for my daughter, to grow up in a place like this, where nobody cares. So were driving to camborne, which is more towards the centre of cornwall itself. It doesnt have the hotels, the beaches, of some of the big resorts on the coast. A couple of hundred years ago, that whole region near camborne was one of the wealthiest Tin Mining Areas in the old world, but it has changed a bit since then. One in five children here live in poverty. Unemployment is well above the national average. Well do camborne show. At the markets, people say business seems to be picking up, with new shops moving into the town centre. But there are still plenty of local concerns. How optimistic are you about the next couple of year, the future. The next couple of year, the future . Its going to be hard, especially after this brexit, two years of that. I think its doing 0k. Ive got three sons, work is not always good, one of thems had to move to yorkshire for a job because most of the employers round here dont offer full time contracts, Theyjust Sort of have meal contracts, which is really difficult for youngsters, i think, because you cant really plan. And again, there was a feeling from the people we spoke to at least, that whatever party wins next month, there is little chance of much changing. The wages are everything is going up. The wages are not matching. Yeah. And because its tourism, so, you know, we pay for it when we live down here and we are born and bred. Like i said, we are the lowest in the country, i think, you will find as well. Being so fardown, it is like we dont matter. 75 years ago, the China Clay Industry was still big business in cornwall. There are still plenty of quarries dotting the landscape. Here, as in other parts of the county, there is one subject that always seems to come up in conversation. Its ridiculous. My mother lives in a rented council house, but because of where it is, its worth £500,000. Claire cooper works for the nhs as a care assistant. Shes been living in this house for eight years, paying £500 a month rent. With two young children, she has been trying hard to get a place of her own. Say you want to buy a £300,000 property, which is probably what you are going to pay for anywhere nice in cornwall, youre looking at a £30,000 deposit, and even on a good wage, thats a tall order. We would hope that in, you know, six years time, maybe, we would like to be out of this property, but. Its going to be a tall order to do it, thats for sure. The only other plan is to leave. The average price of a house in cornwall is now £215,000. Many locals blame outsiders for buying Holiday Homes by the coast. That, they say, pushes up the price for Everyone Else. So any of the candidates, any of the parties you think might what you are going to pay for anywhere nice in cornwall, no, not as of yet, and they didnt in the last election, so i cant see them doing it this time round. That makes your decision quite difficult then. It does, it does make it really difficult. It makes you wonder, who do you vote for, because none of them are interested in cornwall. You know, they all have their own agendas, you know, brexits Overruling Everything at the moment. So. Who do you vote for . I dont know. I havent got the foggiest. You can say what you like, you know, you need to actually do it, and then, maybe you get a return vote, who knows . Jim reid has been talking to people across the county. Comments from you, mark says that this country is supposed to be the sixth richest in the world and we have people using food banks to eat. This is wrong. The good old conservative party, making poverty real. From mark, i am an ex miner in South Yorkshire and voted labour all my life. I am happy with a hard brexit if we need that to get control of our shores. I will be Voting Conservative for the first time in my life, along with lots of others in my area. If this is what is happening in my area, i wonder what is happening in cornwall. Eddie says the most important issue for me is the social care crisis. Colin says that his main concern is the amount of immigration from outside europe. I have no problems as far as eu citizens are concerned, all are welcome. 0n the issue of you being sanctioned, when you were on benefits, that leading you to using a food bank, you said you are happy with this government, but that government sanctioned you . With this government, but that government sanctioned you . Was the old government, with the old Prime Minister, they didnt care enough for people. David cameron did not, but you think theresa mays government does . I think they care more than the old government. They didnt have a hard. I think it was for personal gain, not for the country. Like i say, when the election is coming up, im going to ta ke election is coming up, im going to take a bit more interesting watching the programmes. I dont know who to vote for, i will decide during the time. It is for my kids, when they get to my age, i dont want them using food banks. I will decide which will be the best party to vote for. Rachel, what is the main issue for. Rachel, what is the main issue for you . Inclusion for disabled people and concerns about the nhs. Tell us about your personal circumstances . My son is ten, he is a full time Wheelchair User and needs hoisting for transfers. We have a lack of accessible toilets to use when we go out, changing places, toilets with a bench and a hoist. My soii toilets with a bench and a hoist. My son needs to be lifted from his wheelchair so you can sort his clothes, use the toilet and off you go, like everybody else. But there are just over 900 of these facilities in the entire country. Within a few streets in truro, i counted 100 toilets i could use, but none that my son can use. Without that committee cant participate fully in life . Last year, he pretended to be ill to get out of a cinema trip with friends. Later, i discovered that he was worried they had no toilets at all in the city ce ntre had no toilets at all In The City Centre and he didnt want to have an accident in front of his friends. I had somebody contact me saying he barely left his home for ten years because of an incident that had happened to him. The nhs generally, how have you been treated . We had great treatment from people, i have to say that we are very fortunate to have some amazing people working in the nhs. My sons physiotherapist has always been great, occupational therapy. Where we find things fall down is equipment provision. My son isa down is equipment provision. My son is a full time Wheelchair User, but we have self funded his wheelchair. You had to raise money for that, how much does a Wheelchair Cost . His money will wheelchair was £4500. The one the nhs team wanted to provide him with was so heavy that he could not move it. They suggested it was a suitable compromise because it provided for his posture needs. For adam, who is ten, the most Important Role of his wheelchair is enabling him to move. Thank you very much. Thank you for talking to us this morning. Adrian says, my main concern in this election is company is not paying taxes here, but paying in luxembourg, ireland etc. Delia says it is the nhs and education, and low wages, not brexit. Brexit has not really come up here very much at all since we have been here. We are going to talk to the candidates for the constituency, the people that want to be the next mp, after ten oclock. Wherever you are, do e mail. What is your number one concern in the run up to the election . Lets bring you the news. The conservatives have confirmed they intend to cap Energy Prices for people on standard variable rates if they win the election. Theresa may has suggested the move could save around 17 million customers up to £100 a year. But labour says the cap would not stop bills rising and the pledge has drawn criticism from the industry. Jeremy corbyn will formally launch labours Election Campaign today by saying that his party is not trying to find a way to keep britain in the european union. Mr corbyn, wholl be in greater manchester, will say the issue of brexit is settled. Welcome to come born in cornwall. A p pa re ntly welcome to come born in cornwall. Apparently the sun will come out later. Were here to talk to people had of the General Election. These are some of the things people i have met have said to me. We are just about making a living, there is very little left at the end of the week. Westminster feels like a totally different world. There is no point voting, because they dont listen to others, and nothing ever changes. We are here at a Methodist Church to talk to various mums and dads that run various things and do various things in their lives. Hello, everybody. Lets get your name is right. Janine, mum of two, how are you . Hannah, how are you . Hannah ru ns you . Hannah, how are you . Hannah runs the wild run perrins project. Abbey is a mum of two. Matt, You Wa Nt To Abbey is a mum of two. Matt, you want to get mums to vote . Yes, i also work with the parents project. Rebecca, how are you . Two children, and undecided as to how you are going to vote in the next election. Things that matter to you, what would you say . Services on social care. Mental health services. Police. What would you say . The childrens centre, mainly. They seem to be closing them all over. Why is that important to you . There is not much in cornwall as it is. In pans and is in penzance, there are no big play areas you can use all round. With the centres closing, there is less we can do. Matt . There isa there is less we can do. Matt . There is a lot of injustice, with a lot of young people not getting a fair deal. I think brexit is being used asa deal. I think brexit is being used as a bit ofa deal. I think brexit is being used as a bit of a mask, a diversion away from the real issues that are affecting a lot of people. What would you say the real issues are around here . Poverty. Unemployment, housing. There is a lot of problems with people buying houses, a lot of them are holiday lets. Staying with Mental Health, there is not enough support for the under 25 s. Mental Health, there is not enough support for the under 25 s. I dont know if you heard, but the conservatives on sunday said that there would be 10,000 more Mental Health workers within the system. There is no new money for that, but there would be 10,000 more. What do you think us to mark thats great, but that is not until 2020, we need help now. There are young people that need support. What would you say . I have family that work in the nhs. My dad worked in london, one of these clinics, he can see it getting privatised. You think, what is it going to be down the line . With brexit, we will see what happens, that i dont think there is much ca re that i dont think there is much care for the common people, what is going on, really. Do any of you feel a bit forgotten, living here, when it comes to the way you are treated by politicians . I dont think we even think about it, really. We have got children to look after, weve got children to look after, weve got health to look after, day to day living. If you are on the breadline and havent got that money, it is quite worrying, really. Do you feel fo rg otte n . Quite worrying, really. Do you feel forgotten . Yes, as Working Class people, quite often we are forgotten by politics. It is run by an elite few, for the few, a lot of the time. This is an area with high poverty. What would it take for people who live geographically in the south west of the country to be more ofa south west of the country to be more of a priority now . I think there is a lot of infrastructure issues, with the south west. It kind of get ignored. If you look at the rail networks, a lot of the south west, projects are funded by the eu, which is going to be an issue when we leave. In the last 15 years, cornwall has received Something Like £1 billion worth of eu funding, which has helped with rail improvements, superfast broadband and things like that. The chancellor, this conservative chancellor, this conservative chancellor, philip hammond, has said he will continue to fund existing projects up to 2020. That is if he does what he says. That is one big issue in the south west. There are a lot of reasons why people did vote to leave down here. But there is also going to be a big hole in funding, which means that a lot of projects like our Parent Project will find it more challenging to find funding and other charities well as well. They are all going to be competing for the same pools of money. Why do you think it is important this area has your wild young parents project . We have a Support Network and can advocate for people that dont have a voice or feel disenfranchised. I think it is easy for politicians to say that they have strong and stable leadership, but in real terms there is nothing strong and stable about food banks, austerity or poverty. Thank you very much, nice to meet you. Your children have been really well behaved. And it would not have mattered if they werent, to be honest. But thank you so much. We will be talking to the candidates after ten oclock and we were asked energy price cap, how that is going to work. We will ask the conservative candidate who won the election in 2015, george eustice, and we will talk to labour, the greens, ukip and various other people as well. Join us later. When someone has an Eating Disorder it affects the whole family. Now, in response to a lack of support for fathers of children with anorexia and bulimia the charity beat is starting an Online Support group especially for dads. The idea is that they chat to others who are helping children through the same thing. Lets speak to nick pollard, whose daughter Lizzie Mcnaught was diagnosed with anorexia at 14. Theyre both here with me. Welcome. Thank you both for coming in. So the focus very much on dads. Why do you think that is important, nick . Well, first of all when lizzie was diagnosed it took me a while to cue into how serious it was. It was only after she had an Emergency Admission to the hospital and the doctor took me aside and said, look, you realise she could die. I really twigged into how serious this was. My wife, who is wonderful and provided so much support had recognised it earlier and in lizzies book that she has written of her experience reflecting on it now as a doctor, she sum rises an academic paper which talks about how typically dads tend to rashalise it away whereas mums tend to be more emotionally involved, but once i got involved, i was saying, i switched into my mr fix it mode. Of course, asa dad, into my mr fix it mode. Of course, as a dad, you cant fix it. Tell us more about that and how you did deal with it, once you realised there was this issue . Well, it will be interesting to hear what lizzie says about how i dealt with it. I put an appendix in lizzies book summarising a load of things. An illustration i used particularly when in the early stages of lizzies illness, i said, when in the early stages of lizzies illness, isaid, it when in the early stages of lizzies illness, i said, it is like were in a rowing boat. Ive got the goal as the dad of trying to get us up the river to this goal of lizzie being healthy and im rowing and Everyone Else in the family is rowing and i look around and there lizzie is rowing in the opposite direction. I get angry rowing in the opposite direction. I getangry and rowing in the opposite direction. I get angry and upset and parents, who have children going through an Eating Disorder will know what thats like. Youre trying to get them well, but they seem to be pulling in the opposite direction and suddenly it struck me one day, joanna, i have got the wrong goal. My joanna, i have got the wrong goal. My goal instead of getting us up the river to that healthy position, my position is to keep us all together in the boat. 0k, position is to keep us all together in the boat. Ok, if lizzie is struggling for a while and we drift downstream, as long as were together in the boat then were providing that support and gradually, gradually, me learning to understand what is going on inside lizzies mind and what i can do and what i cant do. Lizzie, how were you reacting or feeling what i cant do. Lizzie, how were you reacting orfeeling about what i cant do. Lizzie, how were you reacting or feeling about the way people around you were reacting . I think its, it was interesting with my dad because as he said he kind of initially didnt really understand the Eating Disorder. How long had you the issues before he started to realise and what were you thinking through that period . M it was a good year before he actually had that realisation of this is serious, i need to do something. Actually, because dad didnt understand and he didnt kind of engage with mum and think about the risks that were going on, i almost saw him as an ally in my eats disorder. We could go out and i could convince we will go out for an eight hour cycle and i would have a green salad with a dressing on the side. I would green salad with a dressing on the side. Iwould have been my green salad with a dressing on the side. I would have been my ally to the grave if he hadnt of had that Turning Point and when he did and then started engaging in things as a family, you know, it worked a lot better because Eating Disorders, they will Divide And Conquer and for mel they will Divide And Conquer and for me i saw my parents dad agrees with what i was doing, mum doesnt and i will divide and i can keep going with this because dad is on side. How long had you had it before your mum spotted signs . Did it get picked up mum spotted signs . Did it get picked up quickly . It had been going on for probably about six months before my mum first identified that something was wrong. And she actually spoke to my dad about it. And dad was very much of the view oh, no, its ok or itll pass. Shell grow out of it, its fine. So mum struggled with that and she kept going for a few months trying to support me and trying to do it by herself and then she took me to the doctor a good few months after that and then thats where treatment started. What would have been the best response from pa rents have been the best response from parents when youre going through what you were going through, not eating . I mean, if someone saysjust eating . I mean, if someone saysjust eat or ignores it. Which is, what does make a difference . Having a united front makes a difference. 0k. Knowing that with anorexia whenever youre faced with a meal and whenever you are you eat, youre going to be filled with dread and anxiety after a meal, but having a united front where both parents are saying you have to eat all of this. You have to and were both saying that. It would be helpful because you realise ive got to do it because everyone is saying that, but also having an educated parents, education is key and this is why beat are launching their new help group for dads this evening and i think thats really key because if we can get dads talking and if we can communicate about Eating Disorders and educating them then their approach to Eating Disorders will be a lot more valued and a lot more beneficial. Nick, you said that you would sort of go off on cycle rides, you were both talking about that and lizzie effectively saying, you were potentially an alie because you were potentially an alie because you werent forcing her to eat. How we re you werent forcing her to eat. How were you seeing the best way to deal with a child that wouldnt eat . At that time i didnt realise how serious it was. 0ne that time i didnt realise how serious it was. One of the things that beat as well as launching tonight this Online Support group for dads, theyve also launched this resource for spotting the signs and symptoms and identifying those early signs and symptoms and i wasnt really aware of those and i didnt ta ke really aware of those and i didnt take it seriously. What are they . Speu take it seriously. What are they . Spell them out. Have a look on the beat website and they have got them about skips and nips and hips and things, kips. About skips and nips and hips and things, kips. Explain about skips and nips and hips and things, kips. Explain what it is. Skips, exercising a lot, thinking about trying to find ways to burn up calories, hips, are they concerned about how they look . Are they changing how they dress and how their body, how they are acting about themselves. Nips, are they tired all the time . Are they needing naps . There is a load that they have created by are great for people learn about the early signs and symptoms. You as a doctor would say now, the fact is that Eating Disorders are come paralympics and mumty mctoral, people have different routes into them and different routes into them and different routes of them. In lizzies book, she is telling her story and im reflecting my prospective as a dad, but it is one persons route in and one persons route out, the value an Online Support group for dads is they can share their different prospectives, someone would say, my son or daughter isnt like that. Yes, mine is. For me, ifelt that i was like, it was like i was in a jungle, trying to hack my way through the jungle and i felt alone in itand through the jungle and i felt alone in it and i thought there must be other dads in this jungle that ive got no contact with themment now this Online Support group that launches tonight, they can have that contact with one another and as i develop more insight and understanding, i thought well, why hadnt other people shared that with me . That insight, that understanding, now there is the opportunity to do that. Give us exa m ples of opportunity to do that. Give us examples of when you talk about the fa ct examples of when you talk about the fact you felt it was yourjob as the dad to steer the ship and you were keeping everyone on the boat. What was the difference in behaviour . Well, i think the way that lizzie sum rises it is that i had to change from thinking i could lead her on to cheering her on. By telling her what to do . Yeah. I mean, for dads who are used to being in control in their professional lives and tend to act the same way in their family lives, its actually quite hard to adjust to the fact that i cannot control whats going on. I cannot change this. Ive got a goal. I want my daughter to be well againment well, first of all i want her still to be alive, but then i want her to be well again the and lizzie after the Emergency Admission to hospital, she was six months in an Inpatient Unitand she was six months in an inpatient unit and years in community care. I wa nted unit and years in community care. I wanted her to be well. I wanted her to achieve, but i cant do that. All ican do to achieve, but i cant do that. All i can do is support her. How do you cheer her on when youve got the instinct to say come on, do this, put that food in your mouth. How do you change that . Well, its hard to sum it up and its encouraging and supporting without being patronising. So its not a case of, 0h, youve eaten that mouthful. Lets give you a round of applause. Like i might do to my four year old granddaughter. How would you describe it, lizzie . I think its working with the community teams, working with the community teams, working with the consultants and the psychiatrist and the nutritionists and setting those, you have to set those boundaries and i think thats important and thats a role of a pa re nt important and thats a role of a parent and of you know of a dad to set those boundaries and to say, no, this is your meal plan. This is what youre eating. No, this is your meal plan. This is what youre eating. But not forcing you. It has got to be their choice. But for you as the daughter going through it, how important was it that your parents be cheering you rather than telling you . That your parents be cheering you rather than telling you . Incredibly important. It is incredibly empowering because a Turning Point for Me And My Anorexia was realising that i have a choice. I have a choice to not listen to this illness. I have a choice to follow my meal plan, to regain a healthy weight and to get on with my life and actually that is going to sustain a much more effective recovery than, you know, you can force feed people. We can put people, you know, you can section them and you can feed them via a tube, you can do all of that, but unless they realise that they have a choice and they can make a decision to recover then theyre never going to recover then theyre never going to achieve recovery. Your book is very powerful and one of the devices is writing letters to your teenage self as you were going through it. In one of the letters you talk about catching a glimpse of yourself and saying you felt you had to push the thought out of your head because you did look lovely, but at the time you couldnt bear to have a positive view of yourself. I mean that will resonate with so many teenagers because the teenage years are a difficult time. What would your message be to any kids who are going through a difficult time anyway and trying to find themselves and the pa rents trying to find themselves and the parents as well, how to help kids through that and how the grown ups can best behave through that time . think at the moment were working quite closely with the be real Body Confidence campaign and one of their key messages is realising that your bodyis key messages is realising that your body is beautiful. Everyone looks different. Everyone will have different. Everyone will have different lumps and bumps and shapes and sizes of the there is no one ideal body, but cant we focus on what the body can do instead of what it looks like . What the body can do instead of what it looks like . The body thats the mind as well, what can i achieve . What can i learn . You know, all of that, its not focussing on howl look, but what i can do. Thank you both very much, thank you. Lizzie and nick, thank you for coming in. If you would like to go to the support group, you can find it at www. B eat. Co. Uk. The fifa president Gianni Infantino says he plans to speak to Sulley Muntari and step up the fight against racism. It clearly meant an awful lot to her and she revealed afterwards that there were a lot of fellow players who had also wanted her to win. I was actually quite inspired before the match because i had a lot of players coming up to me privately, wishing me good luck, players i dont normally speak to. Getting a lot of texts from people in the tennis world that were just rooting for me. So i wanted to do it for myself but also all of these people so i really felt support. That is all the sport for now. Ill be back later. Welcome to the high street of camborne, in cornwall. This constituency was won by the conservatives in 2015 with a majority of 7000. This constituency is in the top 100 target seats for both labour and the lib dems. Lets walk down this high street. You can see a pasty shop, a vaporiser shop, banks, building societies, pound shops, there are nine charity and pound shops, i counted them yesterday. Immigration is not an issue here. 96 of people in camborne are white british, and yet most people in cornwall voted to leave the european union, which is why, possibly, a come back for the lib dems is not on the cards in this area. Lets talk to graham wilkinson, a reporterfrom cornwall life, hejoins us in An Amarillo Type video. How would you describe the town . It is a busy and thriving place. Between here and read ruth, it is the most heavily populated place in cornwall. That is just to the east of here. It is not perhaps your traditional cornwall, cornwall. We are not near the sea and it is not a particularly touristy place. Very Working Class, traditionally mining, but more recently it is certainly a working area. Politically, it is interesting. It is one of the few places in cornwall where labour has a big say. They came second in the last election. In cornwall generally, they tended to be liberal democrats in power until the last election. Theresa may visited cornwall last week. All six constituencies are held by conservatives from the last election. Why did she come here . She came to helston, a neighbouring town. She came to help bolster her mp, standing for re election. There is only a 5 difference between him and the liberal democrat mp that he replaced last time. So, it is to assure him . I think the liberal democrats see this as a key Battle Ground in their attempts to make some gains back from that awful election last time. Even though most people voted to leave the eu and the lib dems are pro eu, they are saying they would give another Referendum Ona they would give another referendum on a final brexit deal. Brexit has hardly come up, actually. Do you think . Maybe i see it differently, being in the news business, it seems to bea being in the news business, it seems to be a big deal. Cornwall was one of those areas that benefited from eu funding. Absolutely, Something Like £1 billion. It was a huge amount. Whether we see that effect at the moment, im not sure it filtered through. People have said, we have had brexit, can we get on with that . What we care about is not being able to buy a house, not being able to rent a house, not being able to find a council house, and low wages . Another thing that consistently comes up our peoples concerns about the ever growing population in cornwall, as a desirable place to live, House Building seems to go on relentlessly, without any of the investment in infrastructure. Thank you. Nice to meet you. Thank you for being in my amarillo video. I am going to talk to some candidates now. Plenty of a limb here, and some voters. Plenty of them here. Lets do the big introduction. George eustice is the conservative candidate. He has been an mp here for seven years. We have geoff williams, for the liberal democrats. Good morning. Next to him, for labour, graham winter. For ukip, a spokesman, rather than a candidate, harry blakely. Spokesman, rather than a candidate, harry bla kely. And spokesman, rather than a candidate, harry blakely. And then we have some voters. Im racheljames, ceo of a childcare service. I am debbie evans. I childcare service. I am debbie evans. Lam childcare service. I am debbie evans. I am a single mother, tactically voting liberal democrat, that a labour voter. I work on a railway, and the Exchange Rate has affected us. That has gone up usually, people only have so much money to spend. You have seen a reduction in takings, or you have laid people off . No, we have not done anything like that yet, a lot of things are still coming through. We paid for everything a long time in advance. It will be the next models that we do which will see the brunt of that, and that will be when we see if people can still afford them. A number of people have said, and you will hear it again, we only see you when there is an election western marc laird . See you when there is an election western marc laird . No, i come down to the constituency, as the previous mp, icome to the constituency, as the previous mp, i come down every week, a surgery mp, i come down every week, a surgery every saturday. Most summers, when the recess is happening, i go around on the doorstep to meet people. I guess people see more politicians when there is an election on, but we have just had local elections, last year we had the referendum campaign, people were out for that. I dont think that is fair. People notice politicians more when there is a General Election. Harry blakely, representing ukip, are they going to stand in this constituency . No, we are supporting people that supported brexit. George supported vote leave. The comment he has not seen around here is not true, he really works ha rd here is not true, he really works hard and that is why ukip is supporting him. Are you happy to be endorsed by a party that wants to ban the burqa and introduce mandatory fgm examinations for young girls . I am standing at a conservative. And i am asking if you are happy that they are endorsing you . It is for each party to decide if they want to stand, they are going to stand in some seats and not others. Are you happy they are not standing here . Yes, because i think there are many ukip voters that were tired of this being a country that had laws written by the eu. They wanted change, they wa nted the eu. They wanted change, they wanted to take back control. We won the referendum, we have taken back control and we now have to make a success negotiations. For labour, what are you promising for people in camborne . There is a lot that has been promised on housing, in particular, that is a real issue for people here. The quality of housing, the quality of rented housing in particular is very low. People want a roof over their heads. 1 million new houses, half of which will be Council Houses. Do you accept, whether it is labour or the conservatives, at every election, they have a target for building new homes, and, for the last however many years, both labour and the conservatives have failed to reach that . Its true, they have failed. That is why the Housing Market is in such a state. There has been a failure by all parties over the last ten, 20 years, on housing. But that is only part of it. Wages is the other issue. People cannot afford houses. Affordable housing does not start at 250,000, im sorry. People here have nowhere near the income to afford that. Labour will introduce a minimum £10 wage. When i was talking to one of the butchers, he said, great for the workers, but i will have two lay a member of staff off. He employs four, and he would have to lay one off if you introduced that the minimum wage . It would be introduced over a period of time. It isa introduced over a period of time. It is a target to reach. He would still have to lay someone off . It has an effect on prices, it helps money go around in the economy. In terms of housing, george eustice, do you accept that last year new Affordable Homes being delivered in cornwall was the lowest number for six years . Here you will see some fantastic projects that have been built particularly on some of the brown field sites. We have got a lot of industries that collapsed 20 or 30 yea Rs Industries that collapsed 20 or 30 years ago and there have been good projects that brought lots of new housing back on to the market. Weve done Affordable Housing to buy. Under the help to buy scheme and there are lots of people here, families, with young children, who have managed now to buy theirfirst home with the help to buy scheme. Despite all of that, theresa may in her housing white paper says britains Housing Market is broken. What are you going to do in the next five years . Look, we have got a number of different proposals to help support House Building. A lot of it is around. Have you read the housing white paper . Ive not read the housing white paper recently, but i saw a summary of it. the housing white paper recently, but i saw a summary of it. I have. There is not that much in it. There is the extending the right to buy discount to Housing Association te na nts, discount to Housing Association tenants, making more brown field sites available and then it says things like, we need to build more homes faster. But without saying how . I was about to explain how. The way you do it is by removing some of the restrictions so weve made it for instance for people to get planning on small developments on brown field sites. We made it easier for people to go for change of use on Old Buildings sometimes commercial buildings that could be converted. And weve actually loosened the rules on this so you can get more houses built on those brown field sites. You will see great example of here in camborne and we want to do more of it in other parts of the country. Great exa m ples other parts of the country. Great examples in Camborne And Redruth, what would the lib dems do . There is an initiative initiated by the Cornwall Council toun Cease Housing Provision outside of whats been provided by coastline. I think the targets that Coastline Set for 2020 are ambitious and i hope that they can keep to them. Coastline, thats the Housing Association . Yes. And they are the principle provider. But what have the lib dems got to say on this issue specifically . In terms of local provision . Yes. Well, in addition to what coastline the Housing Crisis is affecting the whole country and the great problem down in cornwall is the difference between income and affordability. And initiatives like they have taken in st ives which i support on the concentrating new homes for local people is an initiative which i think has to be encouraged. The whole problem, lets face it, goes back to the right to buy and the non replacement then of housing that was taken up by the tenants. If we had replaced Social Housing through the os replaced Social Housing through the 0s and 80s with new soltion housing we wouldnt be in the position we are today. What would you like to say to so. Candidates here today. Im look at the General Election and it is not really a General Election, is it, its a brexit election because my interest is with, there are 800,000 plus people in this country with dementia who are receiving a little bit of a service, but there are also 800,000 people on the Autism Spectrum who are receiving nothing despite autism legislation. Theresa may when she was crowned as leader of this country, she got rid of the social ca re country, she got rid of the Social Care Ministerand country, she got rid of the Social Care Minister and yet she is wanting to reform the Mental Health act for what when you havent got a social ca re what when you havent got a Social Care Ministerand what when you havent got a Social Care Minister and norman lamb within the lib dems is putting, he isjust putting a penny on income tax which would put £6 billion into the economy the we shouldnt be concentrating on brexit. Get a third Party International relate to deal with europe. Too much concentration on brexit . Look, this country took a really big decision last year to leave the european union. The biggest decision weve taken for half a century and we have got to make a success of this Brexit Negotiation and people have got a big choice this this election, whether they want theresa may and strong stable leadership she offers to take that negotiation forward . 0r do they want a floundering Jeremy Corbyn propped up by Nicola Sturgeon and others. Theresa may says she has got to strengthen her hand. I dont want her to strengthen her hand. Iwant dont want her to strengthen her hand. I want her to use kid gloves. All we have got is mudslinging when we have got people on the Autism Speck Tum and people with dementia and people who are vulnerable and trying to buy houses, were concentrating on brexit. Im sick of hearing about brexit. Brexit is an important big decision and it is right that we have theresa may lead the negotiations. Yesterday she made an announcement on Mental Health services and made clear we want another 10,000 people working in Mental Health by 2020. How another 10,000 people working in Mental Health by 2020. How will that be paid for . Today, she is talking about Energy Prices. Yes, this is a General Election. There is not even a Social Care Minister. We have a whole team of ministers. You have got a load of brexit ministers, but you havent got a Social Care Minister. Norman lamb left as a minister. The liberal democrats were removed from government. There are a team of Health Ministers working under Jeremy Corbyn underjeremy hunt. So we have a team of Health Ministers. For me, iwill back so we have a team of Health Ministers. For me, i will back you. George has come to visit a project close to cornwalls heart called young mums will achieve. Whats the issues for you . The government have supported and they have listened, however, we will see the implementation of the 30 hours funding in septemberand implementation of the 30 hours funding in september and the rate thats offered to us is slightly less than what its going to cost us to deliver this service. Its crucial that we have accessible and affordable childcare to support Working Families nationally, not just here in cornwall. Ok. Lib dems, labour, would you like to. Im in support of the one pence on income tax to provide for Better Services particularly for Mental Health. Of course, you are, youre a lib dem candidate. I also sit on tribunals for Mental Health patients in cornwall and the scandal is lack of provision for young people. Young people having to be sent out of the cou nty people having to be sent out of the county because there is no provision for them. Having to spend time in police cells because thats the nearest place of safety. And if a one pence on income tax will help to assuage that situation then i think we should all support it and support the initiative. Labour . I think its really important that we dont just focus on brexit. There is a lot more at stake here. Weve had. Is that because labour doesnt really a brexit policy . Labours Focus On Brexit Policy . Labours focus on brexit is on the Single Market and having the best possible access to Single Market and securing those that work hard for a living whether they are british people working abroad and living abroad or other People Living here and working hard here. Those are our key focus on brexit. But this election isnt about brexit. We have to remember this is about healthcare, its about housing provision, its aboutjobs and its about £30 million worth of cuts to education in cornwall alone over the next few years. This is what its about. We need to focus on these issues. You would reverse those, would you . These issues. You would reverse those, would you . Are you promising to reverse the £30 million worth of cuts . On education, i dont have the Policy Detail on that, im afraid. I would love to. We have increased the amount of Free Childcare that weve got for parents on low incomes so weve got two days a week and were looking to extend that further. It isa looking to extend that further. It is a really important point. You dont call it free. It is not free, it is subsidised by us as a sectorment we support it because We Wa Nt Sectorment we support it because we want to support our families back into work. There is not muff money. Coming from the government . No. Chris, what would you like to say . Well, i think from our Point Of View with our business weve got 14 staff and id like to look out for them. So really, im looking for fairness in business. What does that mean . In a Small Company like ours pays higher taxes on the Big Companies of this world. They get negotiated settlements and that doesnt seem fair to me and the yeah, id like to see it made easier for us. Do you think ahead of Election Parties always say were going to clamp down on Tax Avoidance and tax evasion, it doesnt always happen . No, i think and tax evasion, it doesnt always happen . No, ithink some and tax evasion, it doesnt always happen . No, i think some of the demonisation of people who have to rely on benefits if you like because of they are disabled in some way, that doesnt waste as much money as is lost in Tax Avoidance. We should be far more focussed on that. It is not fair be far more focussed on that. It is notfairona be far more focussed on that. It is not fair on a small businesslike us, i have got to keep all 14 and their families employed, so why should we pay a higher percentage of our taxes . I have got no objection to paying taxes. Weve got to did that, weve got to pay our bit. I dont see why we should pay so much more. And while im on the soapbox, the thing about zero hours, labour want to do away with them, but ive got two staff who are on them by choice because they want to turn up when they want to do a bit of work and it suits them and im happy for them to do that. Losing that would probably mean they wouldnt have any work anymore. The people who choose zer outside hours, you would say even though you want that, well scrap them . Our policy is to scrap zero hours contracts. I think we should look at it. It does suit some people, but i think theyre in the minority. People would prefer to have regular hours and regular pay. Let me read a couple messages from people watching you around the country. Andy says, the priorities for this country are Affordable Housing and real jobs for this country are Affordable Housing and realjobs that pay ten quid an hour. Ken says, it is heart rendering to see so many young people without hope. We dont need distractions over brexit. Jo, these people voted for brexit despite cornwall receiving huge gra nts despite cornwall receiving huge grants from the eu. Philip hammond said he will continue to fund existing eu projects up to 2020. Kate, it is depressing to hear the young woman sitting with you earlier saying she wasnt going to vote because nobody listens. I think there should be a drive to explain to young people it is because they tend not to turn out to vote that Government Policies favour older people. Thank you for those. Thank you very much for your time this morning. Thank you, i really appreciate you coming on the programme. More from camborne in the next half an hour. Theresa may says the move could save 17 million customers up to £100 a year. Labour says the cap would not stop bills rising. Jeremy corbyn will formally launch labours Election Campaign today by saying that his party is not trying to find a way to keep britain in the european union. One of the women alleging Sexual Harassment by the former fox news star bill 0reilly and her lawyer met 0fcom, the media watchdog, yesterday to urge it to block a bid for sky by Rupert Murdochs 21st Century Fox. 0reilly was dropped from fox news over the claims, which involve more than five women, although he strongly denies the allegations calling them completely unfounded. 0fcom are currently considering whether 21st Century Fox, which owns fox news, should be allowed to complete a takeover of sky tv. Well be hearing from wendy walsh in a moment but first heres a quick video to explain whats been going on. We have a contest on billoreilly. Com guess where bills going. Ill have a full report when i return. But bill 0reilly wasnt coming back. He had been the main presenter and biggest star on the us tv channel fox news for 20 years. That came to an end last month, when it emerged a number of women had made Sexual Harassment allegations against him at the company. Fire bill 0reilly five cases have been settled out of court by 0reilly and fox for round £10 million. 0ne unnamed black colleague said 0reilly called her hot chocolate and regularly made passes at her. Were so happy that he has gone and he is no longer going to be able to spit all of his vile comments and everything that comes out of his mouth. Its disparaging not only to women, but specifically to black women and to black folks all over the world. One of 0reillys accusers reported her claims to fox in early april. In 2013, i experienced Sexual Harassment as a job applicant at Fox News Channel. Wendy walsh, a psychologist who appeared on 0reallys show, said she refused tojoin him in his hotel room after theyd had dinner. 0reilly then allegedly withdrew a job he had offered her. Fox initially stuck with 0reilly, but several major sponsors pulled advertising as pressure mounted. At the end of april, Parent Company 21st fox confirmed he had been fired. 0reilly said it was tremendously disheartening to leave fox over totally unfounded claims. Its not the first time the organisation has had to deal with Sexual Harassment claims. Lastjuly, fox news boss roger ailes resigned over similar allegations. The acting fox news ceo, rupert murdoch, has tried to usher in a new era at the channel by issuing an internal memo, also signed by his sons, saying he is committed to fostering a Work Environment built on trust and respect. But murdoch dismissed any concerns about the culture at fox news. Fox news are getting record ratings. So i am not worried at all. So you dont think 0fcom are going to consider what is happening at fox news . Nothings happening at fox news. Nothing. 0k . It comes at a delicate time for mr murdoch. Fox is trying to buy the remaining 61 of sky tv in the uk. The media regulator 0fcom is currently deciding whether the takeover should go ahead, or not. And wendy walsh one of bill 0reillys accusers who we saw briefly in that film joins us now. Thank you very much forjoining us. So, we heard in the film that you we re so, we heard in the film that you were an unpaid contributor on the show when you were called to los angeles, when he said he was going to be in los angeles and would meet up to be in los angeles and would meet up with you . To be in los angeles and would meet up with you . I feel i was targeted, i received a call from one of his tea m i received a call from one of his team saying he just saw me on the tv and asked for me to be on the show. A fox employee asked if i would have dinner with him, when he was flying into los angeles. He is the big boss. You cant say no, it would ruin your career. I said yes, thinking i will keep it really business, it is a Good Opportunity for me to talk about becoming a paid contributor. I didnt have to bring it up. Earlier in the dinner, he told me roger ailes, the chairman, was his good friend and they would offer me a position as a paid contributor. It felt almost like a celebration dinner until we left. We walked out of the restaurant, i turned left to go to the bar, thinking we were going to continue the conversation at the bar, he turned to the right, towards the hotel rooms. When i said, i think the bar is this way, he said, come back to my sweet. I said, im sorry, i cant do that. I said, we are both pa rents, i cant do that. I said, we are both parents, raising girls, we have teenage daughters, maybe we should model some good choices . You said, 0k, we got to the bar and his demeanour changed from charming too hostile. He said, you can forget about the career advice i gave you, you are on your own. I knew that my days were limited. Like so many victims of Sexual Harassment, we think, i can fix this, i will let him know i am not going to sue, send him know i am not going to sue, send him lots of cringeworthy, sucking up to the boss e mails, they tried to defame me by leaking some of these e mails, but eventually he had an executive producer get rid of me. Did you raise it with the channel . No, fifa reasons. Women of my generation, we are so accustomed of navigating these landmines, we have almost normalised Sexual Harassment. Secondly, i didnt know as a job applicant that you can also have a case for Sexual Harassment. I thought, can i call Human Resources at fox . I dont even work there. I didnt come until a New York Times journalist contacted me. She found out that they had been paying off women quietly for years and they we re women quietly for years and they were all unable to talk because they had gag orders. I was in a unique position to tell the truth. Honestly, i had to make an ethical decision to lie to the New York Times, to protect bill 0reilly and fox news, or to tell the truth and make workplaces better for our daughters. It has to be said, he has defended himself. He said he has been targeted because of who he is, and he says the claims that have been made against him are completely unfounded. Might i add, we could suspect that is true if he had been paying off 20,000, 30,000. We are talking about 30 million and there is now a Justice Department investigation into what funds they we re investigation into what funds they were taking that money out of, whether it was revealed to the shareholders that they were quietly paying of women for their silence. 2ist paying of women for their silence. 21st Century Fox also says it has taken prompt and Decisive Action to address reports of Sexual Harassment and workplace issues at fox news. There has been an overhaul of the channel leadership, management and reporting structure, and fundamental changes to the on air talent and prime time programming line up have happened. Why do you say, as you said yesterday, when you met with off, 0fcom, that it should impact on what happens with 21st Century Fox and sky . They are only firing talent because we shone a light on them, because women have protested. They didnt do it over all of these yea rs. If they didnt do it over all of these years. If the murdochs try to say this is before our time, we are hands off, two payoffs happened after they fired roger ailes and the murdoch sons were running things. This is the tip of the iceberg, i think. More victims are coming forward with more claims, lots of claims of racial harassment, and even an e mail hacking claim. The woman cannot talk about it because she is under arbitration, she said fox news was hacking into her e mails. It reminds me of the phone hacking thing that happened years ago. The conversation with bill 0reilly, you said when you spoke to him about not going to his suite, you said, we are both parents, we wa nt to you said, we are both parents, we want to model good choices. You are a mother of daughters. How important do you think is that kids, men and women, learn about the way to behave in the workplace . I comment in media all the time about relationships and about parenting, and i think we need to not only teach our sons and daughters about sexual consent, but also that daughters need to understand that you cannot give consent to your boss. Even if you do have a sexual act with somebody that is higherup, have a sexual act with somebody that is higher up, that can be used as evidence not against you, but to confirm that you were sexually harassed. Somebody signs your paycheque, you dont have the ability to give sexual consent. We need to teach our sons and daughters how to say no politely and not be afraid to make that claim to Human Resources , afraid to make that claim to Human Resources, as i should have done in 2013. I didnt know. Thank you very much indeed. I mentioned that bill 0reilly denies the allegations. Weve had this statement from bill 0reilly, who said, it is tremendously disheartening that we part ways due to completely unfounded claims. But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today. And 21st Century Fox have told us, we have taken prompt and Decisive Action to address reports of sexual harrassment and workplace issues at fox news. These actions have led to an overhaul of Fox News Channels leadership, management and reporting structure, and have driven fundamental changes to the channels on air talent and primetime programming line up. We will have that first interview with marina a in a moment. Now back to victoria. Marine a. We are in camborne to talk to people about the issues that matter to them ahead of the election. Low wages, seasonaljobs, affordable ahead of the election. Low wages, seasonal jobs, Affordable Housing, and brexit has not come up that much, even though most people in cornwall voted to leave the european union. A lot of people say we have done it, lets get on with that, there are more important things to worry about. In terms of new, Affordable Homes for this county, last year was the lowest number built. In terms of Council Houses available for renting last year, ten new Council Houses were delivered. Guess how many on the Social Housing waiting list . 20 9000. Lets talk to various people about housing. John, hello. John is homeless. Alistair is here, the chief executive of a Housing Association charity called coastline. We have clairejones, who has had housing issues in the past, but you were helped by cornwall neighbourhoods for change, and we have a representative from them here today. Tell us about your circumstances richard matt today. Tell us about your circumstances richard matt i was made homeless six months ago because my previous landlady decided to sell up my previous landlady decided to sell up and leave the county. Since then, i have been struggling to get on the housing ladder, due to the fact i have a jack russell dog. You are managing to pay have a jack russell dog. You are mana have a jack russell dog. You are managing to pay rent . have a jack russell dog. You are managing to pay rent . I was paying rent, it was no problem. Why were you not able to continue in another property . It is finding a property, properties that are affordable, also finding a property with a landlord that will accept housing benefit, pets. The list is endless. There seems to be a constant struggle against excuses to be able to find somewhere to rent. Where do you sleep . At the moment, luckily i have friends that will put me up on their sofa. I have been in situations where i have had to sit outside, which is not terribly nice. That is when the persecution of Society Comes in. Then you are homeless, and frowned upon. Day to day living, it ends up putting a strain on your Mental Health, hence the Mental Health issues we hear about with homeless people. I just Health Issues we hear about with homeless people. Ijust hope i can find somewhere in the near future, so that i can regain and Start Building my life again. You want to work this summer . I would love to work. There is plenty of work around here, if you are prepared to try your hand at anything. But there are a lot of problems in cornwall. There is not a lot of permanent work. That biggest problem is the wages, compared to house prices, rent, cost of living, it is not real world. We have spent a lot of time talking about housing this morning. Absolutely no apologies for that, it isa absolutely no apologies for that, it is a huge issue for people here. How bad is is a huge issue for people here. How badisit . Is a huge issue for people here. How bad is it . It is bad here, as it is up bad is it . It is bad here, as it is up and down the country. Affordability is a big issue, values are high, wages are low, it makes it difficult for people to live next to friend and family, it has an impact on communities, health, job opportunities. It is difficult for people to move where they need to forjobs, which holds back businesses. Its a drain on the economy as well. I think it is a massive issue and people underestimate the wider impact. Tell us how your charity helps people like claire . Claire was living in a ca rava n like claire . Claire was living in a caravan and it was really unfit for her with her three children. What we we re her with her three children. What we were able to do, we tried going to the council and then we went through coastline, and they have a place opposite the community centre. We we re opposite the community centre. We were able to give her the support that she and her family needed. The ca rava n that she and her family needed. The caravan was. That she and her family needed. The caravan was. It was a disaster. It was practically living on a building site. Through tarns help, and coastline. Bless you, claire. You are fine, it is good now . Its fabulous. I have a home with my children. 0h, fabulous. I have a home with my children. Oh, dear. Sorry. Do not apologise. Its the fact that, like john, trying to get accommodation, you go to the council, and you just co nsta ntly you go to the council, and you just constantly feel like you are being fobbed off. There was not enough Social Housing. You are constantly being told, we will give you the money, go private. Both labour and the conservatives are talking about how they have targets for building houses, labour say they would build 1 million new Affordable Homes over five years. The conservative sake we will free of planning laws to make it easierfor local will free of planning laws to make it easier for local councils to build. When you hear that, what do you think . I would like to know where they are going to put them. You are just going to be building upon building, which will create tight communities, tight places. It will probably end up leading to social problems in the end because of overcrowding. What would you say . When you hear promises like that . Likejohn said, ok, where are they going to put them . But then they say Affordable Housing, affordable for people to buy second homes . That is an issue here, outsiders come in, buying Holiday Homes, pushing up the price and reducing the supply . Then you have a lot of houses that are left va ca nt, you have a lot of houses that are left vacant, that our Holiday Homes. That is no good. There needs to be more Social Housing, more help with vulnerable people, like john, more Social Housing, more help with vulnerable people, likejohn, like my situation, where you are not being told, have the money for private rented. For me, private rented was. Private landlords dont have these skills to deal with vulnerable people, Mental Health issues. They are after their money. Coastline, other Housing Associations, they have contingency, they have the ability to look after people who are in vulnerable situations. They dont care about your bottom dollar. They care about the individual, they care about the person that needs the property. Thank you very much. Clare, are you all right . Well done. Alistair. Thank you very much and john. Thats it from cornwall for today. Well be m, it from cornwall for today. Well be in, ithink, it from cornwall for today. Well be in, i think, it is the welsh valleys next way. Anyway, stay tuned and you will find out. Thank you very much. Now its time for what the . We need a General Election and we need one now. To every village and every town. We state a clear intention. The big question is simply . At what point. Are voters getting tired of politicians. Let me finish. So norman what have you got for us today . I have for you a banana to you and me this maybe a humble ba na na you and me this maybe a humble banana which you maybe having for your breakfast, but in politics it can bea your breakfast, but in politics it can be a dangerous weapon do you remember you go back to i think it was 2010, that first labour leadership contest when David Miliband was photographed here in manchester where i am today with a ba na na manchester where i am today with a banana and it looked weird and many people thought it did for his leadership pros pecks. Yesterday, Jeremy Corbyn had his banana moment when a supporter, it may been a labour enthusiast, it may have been a stranger came running up with a couple of bananas. It was a surreal moment and to understand it, you have to remind yourself that theresa may has been going on and on about strong and stable leadership. Well, this wasJeremy Corbyns nanna moment. Of course you may. Strong and stable bananas . What . Strong and stable bananas. Come on through. Applause i had no idea what a strong and sta ble ba na na i had no idea what a strong and stable banana is. Perhaps this is a strong and stable banana. Elsewhere, memo to tim farron, do not get in shot behind the camera when youre on live because sometimes things can go wrong particularly when youre on yourcampaign bus go wrong particularly when youre on your campaign bus and it is swaying around and oops a daisy were north of the border to scotland where the lib dems are focussing on trying to gain back some of the seats they lost at the la st some of the seats they lost at the last General Election focussing on. Oh no oh dear, oh dear laughter poor old tim farron. Anyway, thats all ive got at the moment, joanna. Im going to head off and have an early lunch and have this banana while im waiting forJeremy Corbyn to get to his feet. That strong and sta ble to get to his feet. That strong and stable banana. And that was what the. The former royal marine Alexander Blackman, also known as marine a, admits that he made a terrible mistake shooting dead an injured taliban fighter in afghanistan. In his first tv interview to the bbc after he was released from prison last month, he described the killing as not his proudest moment. Sergeant blackman had originally been found guilty of murder in 2013 but his conviction was reduced to manslaughter on appeal in march after a campaign for his release led by his wife, claire. The killing, which happened in Helmand Province in afghanistan in september 2011, attracted widespread publicity when it reached a court martial. Video footage from a head camera worn by a fellow marine captured the shooting. Heres alexander and Claire Blackman talking to our correspondent, clinton rogers, this morning. Good. Very good. I think for anybody thats not been in or spent time in prison it is hard to explain how it is. Just the freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. You feel like going outside for five or ten minutes, you can. If you want to stay out for the whole day, you can. Its a really good feeling. Mrs blackman, you often have said to me in the past, you wondered if this day would ever come. How do you feel right now . Its really here. We did it. Idid right now . Its really here. We did it. I did often wonder if it would ever come, but it took a long time to sink in. I didnt quite believe it, but now hes home, its wonderful. You have described her as a wife in a million . Yes. I mean, what can you say to someone that sticks by you through Something Like this and not only that, but spends the last three and a half years, you know, fighting to get you out. three and a half years, you know, fighting to get you out. I need to ta ke fighting to get you out. I need to take you to that point when, i think, you yourself have described it as think, you yourself have described itasa think, you yourself have described it as a moment of madness. Youve had plenty of time to reflect on it. What do you think now . had plenty of time to reflect on it. What do you think now . I dont think my view has changed. Its still, i dont know why exactly i did it. Its still a moment of madness is the best description i can give. Yes, its not exactly the proudest moment of my life when i look back on that. Why did you do it . I really couldnt tell you. I dont i have spent a lot of time thinking about it and spent a lot of time thinking about itandi spent a lot of time thinking about it and i havent got a definitive answer. If that situation arose again, and i know it must be an almost unpossible question to answer, how would you react again or can you not say because it was in the heat of battle . Because it was in the heat of battle . It is such a unique circumstances and in a unique area of the world. Like i say, the likelihood of me ever finding myself in that position again is so remote, its almost comical. Yes, so its really cant really answer how id act because i dont think thats ever likely to happen again. Mrs blackman you have had to sit and watch the fall out of it. How do you feel about the decision that your husband made . Its not for me to judge. I have no concept ofjust how incredibly stressful it must have been out there. I used the phrase before and im putting words into his mouth, i realise, but i feel personally, fairly certain that, you know, if he a time machine and could go back and do things differently, he would. But, you know, we dont have access to such things and what is done is done and now we have the chance to move on and were looking forward to doing that. Is that a Fair Assessment for you .
