hello, i'm christian fraser. you're watching the context on bbc news. the boss at bp is out over the partial story he told about his relationships in work. so what is acceptable in the workplace these days? welcome back. the impeachment of bill clinton in 1998 for perjury and obstruction ofjustice was a truly earth—shattering moment. but the decision taken yesterday by house speaker kevin mccarthy to impeachjoe biden without even a vote on the floor was nothing of the sort. more the inevitable consequence ofjust how divided america's politics has become. today, i am directing our- house committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry- into presidentjoe biden. this logical next step _ will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts - and answers for the american public. now here's what we know so far. through our investigations, - we have found that president biden did lie to the american peoplel about his own knowledge of his family's foreign business dealings. eyewitnesses have testified that the president joined i on multiple phone calls and had | multiple interactions, dinners, | resulted in cars and millions of dollars into his son - and his son's business partners. speaker mccarthy says it is the "logical" next step. but so far, the various republican—led committee have failed to produce any evidence the president has committed any "high crimes and misdemeanours". during donald trump's time at the white house, the doj opened an investigation into biden*s accounts and found nothing. biden*s taxes are public, a us attorney has been investigating his son hunter for years — so if there were red flags, you would think they would already be apparent. mr mccarthy answers that an impeachment inquiry will give house committees leverage to subpoena officials. but under trump, the doj issued a legally—binding opinion that the house must take a formal vote to validate an impeachment inquiry. the former speaker nancy pelosi had launched an inquiry without one, and the decision invalidated subpoenas that were issued. plenty more difficulty for speaker mccarthy. let's hearfrom calvin dark, us political analyst. thanks for being with us. for the reasons that i've just set out, it seems an impeachment inquiry to find evidence to impeach — how will voters react to that? evidence to impeach - how will voters react to that?— evidence to impeach - how will voters react to that? well, i think it'll for the _ voters react to that? well, i think it'll for the republicans, - voters react to that? well, i think it'll for the republicans, and - it'll for the republicans, and here's why. unfortunately after the two impeachments of donald trump, the tool of impeachment is even more political than it was before, after the impeachment of bill clinton. the problem then though it is, as you mentioned, there hasn't been any real compelling evidence barely that hunter biden committed crimes, and by extension may bejoe biden committed crimes? so for that reason, i think it'll blow back on the republicans if the democrats used every opportunity on the campaign trailto remind used every opportunity on the campaign trail to remind folks that there is no evidence, that this is an impeachment in search of a crime. except hunter biden in court did acknowledge that he was paid several hundred thousand dollars through partnerships and business deals with chinese companies, firms in 2017 and 2018 paid him. his father, who wasn't in the white house than, said that he had no contact with china and that didn't seem to be true — so some of the story that the bidens have not been honest about? i some of the story that the bidens have not been honest about? i think there's an argument _ have not been honest about? i think there's an argument to _ have not been honest about? i think there's an argument to be _ have not been honest about? i think there's an argument to be made - have not been honest about? i think. there's an argument to be made there — but once again, the problem is evenif — but once again, the problem is even if those explanations that president biden gave were not accurate, where's the crime? because let's also remember it's not a crime to get paid large amounts of money where you have a contract with another country.— where you have a contract with another country. which he wouldn't have not if another country. which he wouldn't have got if his _ another country. which he wouldn't have got if his father _ another country. which he wouldn't have got if his father wasn't - another country. which he wouldn't have got if his father wasn't vice i have got if his father wasn't vice president, let's be clear, he was a recovering drug addict so he wouldn't have gotten tens of thousands of dollars had his father not been vp and potentially the next. . * , , not been vp and potentially the next. ., *, , ., *, next. that's true, using one's family name _ next. that's true, using one's family name to _ next. that's true, using one's family name to do _ next. that's true, using one's family name to do what - next. that's true, using one'sl family name to do what hunter next. that's true, using one's - family name to do what hunter biden did it's obvious he nothing new — but once again, that's obviously something he could have done without joe biden. so that's the key here. look, i think most americans think that if there has been a crime, whether it's joe that if there has been a crime, whether it'sjoe biden, donald trump, hunter biden, it should be investigated and gone after. but this impeachment inquiry is to impeachjoe biden by trying to find evidence of something to impeach him for. . , ., ~' , evidence of something to impeach him for. ., ~ for. can you link this story, the impeachment, _ for. can you link this story, the impeachment, with _ for. can you link this story, the impeachment, with what - for. can you link this story, the been i that? this is why love politics in washington. it hasn't been that| that? this is why love politics in i washington. it hasn't been that long ago since kevin mccarthy had to go through 15 rounds of votes to get his own party members to support him. and he promised a lot of things to them to get their support. and we have to pass a budget before the end of the month, or we face a shut down in the united states. so kevin mccarthy had to do this yesterday to try to get the support to avoid a government shutdown from his party. but here's the thing — after his press conference yesterday when he announced it, it appears that some of the hardest line folks in congress, the most pro trump folks weren't satisfied. so if they continue to support kevin mccarthy, once again, this is about a disagreement within his own party. how will the voters look at the republican record in the house of representatives over the last year? because quite aside from this process, which we can talk about, it's quite extraordinary to impeach a president without any evidence, but the record of the republicans, getting bills out of committee and passing them on the floor is pretty poon passing thing or two, not least the fact that i might have been a cover reporter, but bronwyn was already us editor, writing about us affairs with bill clinton. let's move on to a story that broke overnight. the chief executive of bp has resigned less than four years into thejob, after admitting he had failed to give full details of his past relationships with colleagues. the company opened an investigation last year after the issue was raised by an anonymous source. in the announcement released last night, the company said mr looney "did not provide details of all relationships and accepts he was obliged to make more complete disclosure". chris roebuck is with us he is an expert on corporate leadership and has advised the boards of several multinational banks. thanks for being with us, chris. what's the background on this, going backin what's the background on this, going back in time — he took the job and was told to disclose his relationships, did he leave some out? i relationships, did he leave some out? ~ , ., ., ., relationships, did he leave some out? ~ ., ., , ., relationships, did he leave some out? ~' ., ., , ., ., out? i think you had a senior moment and out? i think you had a senior moment and left a few of them out. that's i and left a few of them out. that's really not terribly good for a chief executive, the whole point about being a chief executive is that you are open and honest, and lead by example because you expect anybody else to do the same, that's how the organisation works. and you expect everybody to be transparent and honest — but if you are not, it's just a complete breach of trust, of values. he had to go because leaders are there to lead by example. 50 values. he had to go because leaders are there to lead by example.- are there to lead by example. so are we now saying _ are there to lead by example. so are we now saying then _ are there to lead by example. so are we now saying then that _ are there to lead by example. so are we now saying then that in _ are there to lead by example. so are we now saying then that in the i we now saying then that in the corporate world, a relationship across different levels, different strategies of the organisation are not permissible any more? they can lead to a dismissal? the not permissible any more? they can lead to a dismissal?— lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't _ lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the _ lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the fact _ lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the fact that - lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the fact that the i here wasn't the fact that the relationships took place — i think the fact is that he did not disclose the fact is that he did not disclose the relationships. now 0k, depending on what those relationships were, there might*ve been some fallout from them. but it is the simple fact that he did not disclose openly and honestly what happened when he was asked that question. and to be perfectly blunt, for any leader, what your people expect of you is one, you know what you're doing, and two, they can trust you — and of all people, if the chief executive can't be trusted when he's asked a simple question, there's a problem. there is a broader — question, there's a problem. there is a broader point _ question, there's a problem. there is a broader point here _ question, there's a problem. there is a broader point here though, i is a broader point here though, isn't it? this is not the first time in recent months we've talked about senior people having relationships with morejunior people in the organisation. when you go out and advise these boards about the way people conduct themselves in the workplace, do you advise on this? what do you tell them? it’s workplace, do you advise on this? what do you tell them?— what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, — what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as _ what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as you _ what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as you get - what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as you get more i the fact that, as you get more senior as a leader, there are more and more people looking at you and your behaviour, even if they are not direct reports of you, and they will draw conclusions from your behaviour. now within the management line, you know, we've all seen that what happens is there is somebody who happens to be a team leader and starts a relationship with somebody on their team, then even if there is no favouritism, even if there is no unfairness, there is the possibility that people might draw conclusions that people might draw conclusions that the reason that person got that particular work to do or that particular promotion was not because they were good, but because they were in a relationship. and generally speaking, it is really not good to have a relationship with somebody who reports to you. now the wider question is, ok, what about relationships with somebody in a different part of the organisation? yes, 0k, different part of the organisation? yes, ok, maybe so, but again we come back to the point whereby if one person is very senior and one person is less senior, and there is a perception that the more senior person is in some way at lobbying for the morejunior person is in some way at lobbying for the more junior person to get round the normal promotion and other criteria as, bang, unfairness, bang, lack of integrity— then the whole thing starts breaking down. so yes, work relationships are ok but they have to be very delicately managed. and it's about perception more than reality. and it's about perception more than reali . , , ., reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming _ reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming on _ reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming on the _ reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming on the programme. i oval, and they lost a couple of early wickets — but then came stokes, the game—changer, he hit nine sixes and 15 boundaries in a quickfire 182. that's an 0di record for england. dan 0gunshakin reports. it was a familiar scenario — england in trouble in a situation tailor—made for ben stokes. arriving at 13-2, tailor—made for ben stokes. arriving at 13—2, his stay at the crease was almost brief. a leading edge, just short — safe. struggling from his first six balls, stokes began to find his timing. first came a half—century, then he went the wrinkly through the gears. —— thoroughly danjust mentioned in his report, the day really belonging to one person — ben stokes. and that fabulous batting performance laying the foundations for a huge win. england all out for 368 before skittling the kiwis forjust 187 runs. the 181—run winning margin is the eighth highest for england in 0di cricket. they lead the series 2—1 and meet in the final one—dayer on friday at lords. there was a five—goal thriller in the swpl as celtic came from 2—0 down to bounce back from their champions league exit with a sensational win against a battling hearts, in airdrie. china's shen menglu put in a star of the match performance with an assist and this goal, which would prove to be the winner in the 50th minute. earlier, celtic had shipped two goals in the first eight minutes before the remarkable turnaround. elsewhere, rangers continue to set the pace — they're beating motherwell 3—1 to lead celtic at the top of the table byjust one point. montrose secured their first top—flight win against dundee united — 3—1 that finished. and jorian baucom got a hat—trick for hibs against aberdeen. just weeks after the disappointment of their world cup final defeat, england's lionesess are gearing up for their next challenge — the nations league. but they will be without keira walsh, who will miss the matches against scotland and the netherlands because of a calf injury. spurs striker bethany england also misses out, after she had hip surgery earlier this month. england's group also includes belgium — the winner of which will qualify for the semi—finals in february. manager sarina wiegman, though, has been questioning the busy schedule of her players. some players only had six days off, which, after such a high level, high pressure of competition, is not good for them. that has been going on for a long time because we have major tournaments in the summer all the time. the urgency to solve it and make it better is really, really high. at the davis cup, great britain got their campaign under way in manchester — kicking things off against australia who they beat 2—1. there was a brilliant debut for 21—year—old jack draper — up against thanasi kokkinakis in the opening singles rubber, who's 32 places above him in the world rankings, he won 6—7 6—3 7—6. british number two dan evans put on a great performance to see off world number 12 alex di minaur, in the second singles match. coming through 6—1,2—6, 6—4 to earn an unasailable 2—0 lead for great britain. evans was then back in action with wimbledon champion neal skupski in the doubles — but the pair lost to the australian duo of matthew ebden and max purcell. evans though, delighted with victory in their first round—robin match. i was incredibly nervous walking out, practising here this week, it was a lot bigger than i first expected and very much closer to the court then we played before. it was amazing basically, and yet, thanks for all your support.— and that's all the sport for now. from me and the rest of the team, bye—bye. hello there. the weather was a lot drier today across england and wales with more in the way of sunshine. it's felt quite fresh in the sunshine, not particularly humid there, and this was flamborough head with those sunny spells overhead. but further north and west, we had much thicker cloud in western scotland with rain arriving in argyll and bute through the afternoon. things starting to turn a little bit misty as well, and that rain is all associated with this developing low pressure. it's going to be bringing some wet and windy weather overnight, particularly to the northwest. so, some strong winds working into scotland — gales for a time here as a band of rain clears through, followed by some heavy showers. northern ireland becomes drier, but again, there could be one or two showers here and there. rain sinks southwards across northern england, north wales and into the north midlands by the end of the night. this is going to be a relatively mild night compared with last night — temperatures 11—13 celsius. now, this weather front*s going to become very slow—moving tomorrow, so if you start off with rain, chances are it will still be raining into the afternoon. so, that's across parts of wales, the midlands, maybe northern england and lincolnshire as well. the rain will turn a bit lighter and patchier at times. further north, sunshine and showers, still with some gales affecting northern areas of scotland. the weather turning quite humid with some warm sunshine across parts of east anglia and southern counties of england. now, heading through thursday night and into friday, that weatherfront is going to change its mind and start pushing back northwards. to the south of our fronts, we get southerly winds, and so it's going to start to get quite a bit warmer. across scotland and northern ireland, well, not very warm, particularly with that thick cloud and the rain on the way. so, for friday, rain turning quite heavy for a time in northern ireland, the rain crossing northern england moving back into southern and then central scotland. the far north, though, still having a day of sunshine and showers. england and wales, few mist and fog patches possible, but otherwise, we've got some warm spells of sunshine starting to feel a bit more humid with temperatures climbing. 20—25, warm in the sun, scotland and northern ireland, temperatures below par for the time of year. now, into the weekend, an area of low pressure develops to our south. this could bring some severe thunderstorms to parts of iberia and western france. for us, it's a question mark about how far those fronts will push. i think certainly this weekend, there will be some rain around at times across the south of both england and wales. but there's a question mark about how much, if any, you'll see further north. tonight at ten. sara shariff*s father, step mother and uncle are arrested on suspicion of her murder as they land at gatwick airport. they flew back from pakistan tonight — police officers were seen boarding the plane as it arrived. tonight the three are in custody being questioned over the death of ten—year—old sara — her body was discovered at her home five weeks ago. this has been an extremely fast—moving, challenging and complex inquiry and we remain absolutely committed to conducting a thorough investigation into sara's death. also tonight — devastation in libya. more than 5,000 known to have died after a storm caused two dams to burst. the brazilian murderer who made a daring escape from a usjail — finally recaptured after weeks on the run in a manhunt that brought fear and fascination across america. and the challenge facing western car—makers as china is set to become the world's biggest car exporter. 0n newsnight at 10:30pm: more than 5,000 dead and many more missing as whole neighbourhoods in the city of derna are swept into the sea. what chance has libya got when the country is in chaos and there's no disaster plan?

hello, i'm christian fraser. you're watching the context on bbc news. the boss at bp is out over the partial story he told about his relationships in work. so what is acceptable in the workplace these days? welcome back. the impeachment of bill clinton in 1998 for perjury and obstruction ofjustice was a truly earth—shattering moment. but the decision taken yesterday by house speaker kevin mccarthy to impeachjoe biden without even a vote on the floor was nothing of the sort. more the inevitable consequence ofjust how divided america's politics has become. today, i am directing our- house committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry- into presidentjoe biden. this logical next step _ will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts - and answers for the american public. now here's what we know so far. through our investigations, - we have found that president biden did lie to the american peoplel about his own knowledge of his family's foreign business dealings. eyewitnesses have testified that the president joined i on multiple phone calls and had | multiple interactions, dinners, | resulted in cars and millions of dollars into his son - and his son's business partners. speaker mccarthy says it is the "logical" next step. but so far, the various republican—led committee have failed to produce any evidence the president has committed any "high crimes and misdemeanours". during donald trump's time at the white house, the doj opened an investigation into biden*s accounts and found nothing. biden*s taxes are public, a us attorney has been investigating his son hunter for years — so if there were red flags, you would think they would already be apparent. mr mccarthy answers that an impeachment inquiry will give house committees leverage to subpoena officials. but under trump, the doj issued a legally—binding opinion that the house must take a formal vote to validate an impeachment inquiry. the former speaker nancy pelosi had launched an inquiry without one, and the decision invalidated subpoenas that were issued. plenty more difficulty for speaker mccarthy. let's hearfrom calvin dark, us political analyst. thanks for being with us. for the reasons that i've just set out, it seems an impeachment inquiry to find evidence to impeach — how will voters react to that? evidence to impeach - how will voters react to that?— evidence to impeach - how will voters react to that? well, i think it'll for the _ voters react to that? well, i think it'll for the republicans, - voters react to that? well, i think it'll for the republicans, and - it'll for the republicans, and here's why. unfortunately after the two impeachments of donald trump, the tool of impeachment is even more political than it was before, after the impeachment of bill clinton. the problem then though it is, as you mentioned, there hasn't been any real compelling evidence barely that hunter biden committed crimes, and by extension may bejoe biden committed crimes? so for that reason, i think it'll blow back on the republicans if the democrats used every opportunity on the campaign trailto remind used every opportunity on the campaign trail to remind folks that there is no evidence, that this is an impeachment in search of a crime. except hunter biden in court did acknowledge that he was paid several hundred thousand dollars through partnerships and business deals with chinese companies, firms in 2017 and 2018 paid him. his father, who wasn't in the white house than, said that he had no contact with china and that didn't seem to be true — so some of the story that the bidens have not been honest about? i some of the story that the bidens have not been honest about? i think there's an argument _ have not been honest about? i think there's an argument to _ have not been honest about? i think there's an argument to be _ have not been honest about? i think there's an argument to be made - have not been honest about? i think. there's an argument to be made there — but once again, the problem is evenif — but once again, the problem is even if those explanations that president biden gave were not accurate, where's the crime? because let's also remember it's not a crime to get paid large amounts of money where you have a contract with another country.— where you have a contract with another country. which he wouldn't have not if another country. which he wouldn't have got if his _ another country. which he wouldn't have got if his father _ another country. which he wouldn't have got if his father wasn't - another country. which he wouldn't have got if his father wasn't vice i have got if his father wasn't vice president, let's be clear, he was a recovering drug addict so he wouldn't have gotten tens of thousands of dollars had his father not been vp and potentially the next. . * , , not been vp and potentially the next. ., *, , ., *, next. that's true, using one's family name _ next. that's true, using one's family name to _ next. that's true, using one's family name to do _ next. that's true, using one's family name to do what - next. that's true, using one'sl family name to do what hunter next. that's true, using one's - family name to do what hunter biden did it's obvious he nothing new — but once again, that's obviously something he could have done without joe biden. so that's the key here. look, i think most americans think that if there has been a crime, whether it's joe that if there has been a crime, whether it'sjoe biden, donald trump, hunter biden, it should be investigated and gone after. but this impeachment inquiry is to impeachjoe biden by trying to find evidence of something to impeach him for. . , ., ~' , evidence of something to impeach him for. ., ~ for. can you link this story, the impeachment, _ for. can you link this story, the impeachment, with _ for. can you link this story, the impeachment, with what - for. can you link this story, the impeachment, with what we i for. can you link this story, the i impeachment, with what we were just talking about in the first half—hour of the programme, the spending bill which has to go through by the end of the month which the ukraine is attached to —wise this attached to that? attached to -wise this attached to that? , , , ., attached to -wise this attached to that? ,, i- ., that? this is why love politics in washington- — that? this is why love politics in washington. it _ that? this is why love politics in washington. it hasn't _ that? this is why love politics in washington. it hasn't been i that? this is why love politics in washington. it hasn't been that| that? this is why love politics in i washington. it hasn't been that long ago since kevin mccarthy had to go through 15 rounds of votes to get his own party members to support him. and he promised a lot of things to them to get their support. and we have to pass a budget before the end of the month, or we face a shut down in the united states. so kevin mccarthy had to do this yesterday to try to get the support to avoid a government shutdown from his party. but here's the thing — after his press conference yesterday when he announced it, it appears that some of the hardest line folks in congress, the most pro trump folks weren't satisfied. so if they continue to support kevin mccarthy, once again, this is about a disagreement within his own party. how will the voters look at the republican record in the house of representatives over the last year? because quite aside from this process, which we can talk about, it's quite extraordinary to impeach a president without any evidence, but the record of the republicans, getting bills out of committee and passing them on the floor is pretty poon passing them on the floor is pretty oor. ~ , ., _ passing them on the floor is pretty oor. ~ , ., , passing them on the floor is pretty oor.~ , ., , poor. well, christian, i say this as an american _ poor. not been _ an american conservative, it's not been a _ an american conservative, it's not been a banneryear an american conservative, it's not been a banner year for the house of representatives thing or two, not least the fact that i might have been a cover reporter, but bronwyn was already us editor, writing about us affairs with bill clinton. let's move on to a story that broke overnight. the chief executive of bp has resigned less than four years into thejob, after admitting he had failed to give full details of his past relationships with colleagues. the company opened an investigation last year after the issue was raised by an anonymous source. in the announcement released last night, the company said mr looney "did not provide details of all relationships and accepts he was obliged to make more complete disclosure". chris roebuck is with us he is an expert on corporate leadership and has advised the boards of several multinational banks. thanks for being with us, chris. what's the background on this, going backin what's the background on this, going back in time — he took the job and was told to disclose his relationships, did he leave some out? i out? i think you had a senior moment and left a few of them out. that's i and left a few of them out. that's really not terribly good for a chief executive, the whole point about being a chief executive is that you are open and honest, and lead by example because you expect anybody else to do the same, that's how the organisation works. and you expect everybody to be transparent and honest — but if you are not, it's just a complete breach of trust, of values. he had to go because leaders are there to lead by example. 50 values. he had to go because leaders are there to lead by example.- are there to lead by example. so are we now saying _ are there to lead by example. so are we now saying then _ are there to lead by example. so are we now saying then that _ are there to lead by levels, different strategies of the organisation are not permissible any more? they can lead to a dismissal? the not permissible any more? they can lead to a dismissal?— lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't _ lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the _ lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the fact _ lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the fact that - lead to a dismissal? the problem here wasn't the fact that the i here wasn't the fact that the relationships took place — i think the fact is that he did not disclose the fact is that he did not disclose the relationships. now 0k, depending on what those relationships were, there might*ve been some fallout from them. but it is the simple fact that he did not disclose openly and honestly what happened when he was asked that question. and to be perfectly blunt, for any leader, what your people expect of you is one, you know what you're doing, and two, they can trust you — and of all people, if the chief executive can't be trusted when he's asked a simple question, there's a problem. there is a broader — question, there's a problem. there is a broader point _ question, there's a problem. there is a broader point here _ question, there's a problem. there is a broader point here though, i is a broader point here though, isn't it? this is not the first time in recent months we've talked about senior people having relationships with morejunior people in the organisation. when you go out and advise these boards about the way people conduct themselves in the workplace, do you advise on this? what do you tell them? it’s workplace, do you advise on this? what do you tell them?— what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, — what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as _ what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as you _ what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as you get - what do you tell them? it's about the fact that, as you get more i the fact that, as you get more senior as a leader, there are more and more people looking at you and your behaviour, even if they are not direct reports of you, and they will draw conclusions from your behaviour. now within the management line, you know, we've all seen that what happens is there is somebody who happens to be a team leader and starts a relationship with somebody on their team, then even if there is no favouritism, even if there is no unfairness, there is the possibility that people might draw conclusions that people might draw conclusions that the reason that person got that particular work to do or that particular promotion was not because they were good, but because they were in a relationship. and generally speaking, it is really not good to have a relationship with somebody who reports to you. now the wider question is, ok, what about relationships with somebody in a different part of the organisation? yes, 0k, different part of the organisation? yes, ok, maybe so, but again we come back to the point whereby if one person is very senior and one person is less senior, and there is a perception that the more senior person is in some way at lobbying for the morejunior person is in some way at lobbying for the more junior person to get round the normal promotion and other criteria as, bang, unfairness, bang, lack of integrity— then the whole thing starts breaking down. so yes, work relationships are ok but they have to be very delicately managed. and it's about perception more than reality. and it's about perception more than reali . , , ., reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming _ reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming on _ reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming on the _ reality. indeed it is, chris, thanks for coming on the programme. i the biggest names in music — the *eras' world tour is breaking all records. one recent show in seattle, shook the ground so hard it generated seismic activity. the job ad says, "we are looking for an grabbing of his private parts, the audience of the world, never mind the royalty of his country —— the other footballer. it was such a clash, it fascinated me until the day were he stepped down. we oval, and they lost a couple of early wickets — but then came stokes, the game—changer, he hit nine sixes and 15 boundaries in a quickfire 182. that's an 0di record for england. dan 0gunshakin danjust mentioned in his report, the day really belonging to one person — ben stokes. and that fabulous batting performance laying the foundations for a huge win. england all out for 368 before skittling the kiwis forjust 187 runs. the 181—run winning margin is the eighth highest for england in 0di cricket. they lead the series 2—1 and meet in the final one—dayer on friday at lords. there was a five—goal thriller in the swpl as celtic came from 2—0 down to bounce back from their champions league exit with a sensational win against a battling hearts, in airdrie. china's shen menglu put in a star of the match performance with an assist and this goal, which would prove to be the winner in the 50th minute. earlier, celtic had shipped two goals in the first eight minutes before the remarkable turnaround. elsewhere, rangers continue to set the pace — they're beating motherwell 3—1 to lead celtic at the top of the table byjust one point. montrose secured their first top—flight win against dundee united — 3—1 that finished. and jorian baucom got a hat—trick for hibs against aberdeen. just weeks after the disappointment of their world cup final defeat, england's lionesess are gearing up for their next challenge — the nations league. but they will be without keira walsh, who will miss the matches against scotland and the netherlands because of a calf injury. spurs striker bethany england also misses out, after she had hip surgery earlier this month. england's group also includes belgium — the winner of which will qualify for the semi—finals in february. manager sarina wiegman, though, has been questioning the busy schedule of her players. some players only had six days off, which, after such a high level, high pressure of competition, is not good for them. that has been going on for a long time because we have major tournaments in the summer all the time. the urgency to solve it and make it better is really, really high. at the davis cup, great britain got their campaign under way in manchester — kicking things off against australia who they beat 2—1. there was a brilliant debut for 21—year—old jack draper — up against thanasi kokkinakis in the opening singles rubber, who's 32 places above him in the world rankings, he won 6—7 6—3 7—6. british number two dan evans put on a great performance to see off world number 12 alex di minaur, in the second singles match. coming through 6—1,2—6, 6—4 to earn an unasailable 2—0 lead for great britain. evans was then back in action with wimbledon champion neal skupski in the doubles — but the pair lost to the australian duo of matthew ebden and max purcell. evans though, delighted with victory in their first round—robin match. i was incredibly nervous walking out, practising here this week, it was a lot bigger than i first expected and very much closer to the court then we played before. it was amazing basically, and yet, thanks for all your support.— and that's all the sport for now. from me and the rest of the team, bye—bye. hello there. the weather was a lot drier today across england and wales with more in the way of sunshine. it's felt quite fresh in the sunshine, not particularly humid there, and this was flamborough head with those sunny spells overhead. but further north and west, we had much thicker cloud in western scotland with rain arriving in argyll and bute through the afternoon. things starting to turn a little bit misty as well, and that rain is all associated with this developing low pressure. it's going to be bringing some wet and windy weather overnight, particularly to the northwest. so, some strong winds working into scotland — gales for a time here as a band of rain clears through, followed by some heavy showers. northern ireland becomes drier, but again, there could be one or two showers here and there. rain sinks southwards across northern england, north wales and into the north midlands by the end of the night. this is going to be a relatively mild night compared with last night — temperatures 11—13 celsius. now, this weather front*s going to become very slow—moving tomorrow, so if you start off with rain, chances are it will still be raining into the afternoon. so, that's across parts of wales, the midlands, maybe northern england and lincolnshire as well. the rain will turn a bit lighter and patchier at times. further north, sunshine and showers, still with some gales affecting northern areas of scotland. the weather turning quite humid with some warm sunshine across parts of east anglia and southern counties of england. now, heading through thursday night and into friday, that weatherfront is going to change its mind and start pushing back northwards. to the south of our fronts, we get southerly winds, and so it's going to start to get quite a bit warmer. across scotland and northern ireland, well, not very warm, particularly with that thick cloud and the rain on the way. so, for friday, rain turning quite heavy for a time in northern ireland, the rain crossing northern england moving back into southern and then central scotland. the far north, though, still having a day of sunshine and showers. england and wales, few mist and fog patches possible, but otherwise, we've got some warm spells of sunshine starting to feel a bit more humid with temperatures climbing.
