heatwave in june for 20 years. but as the temperature soars — a health warning is issued to those struggling to stay cool. in a moment it will be time for sportsday but first a look at what else is coming up this evening on bbc news. we'll take a look at the chancellor philip hammond's speech this morning at mansion house alongside the governor of the bank of england mark carney. is an alleged hard brexit now off the table? we'll join christian fraser and katty kay for 100 days plus — who are looking at the death of a us student who had been detained by north korea. we'll be looking at how long the heatwave affecting large parts of the uk will last. that's all ahead on bbc news. hello, you're watching sportsday with me, reshmin chowdhury — the headlines tonight. a shock at queens — as defending champion andy murray crashes out in the first round. the british and irish lions win big in their last warm—up up match, ahead of the first test against the all blacks. there was defeat for odds—on favourite churchill in the big race on day one of royal ascot. and as part of women's sport week, britain's most decorated paralympian and soon to be mother—of—two dame sarah storey looks into how elite sportswomen are treated when they have a baby. welcome to the programme. we start with a huge shock in the last half hour because defending champion andy murray is out of the aegon championships at queens — beaten by world number 90 jordan thompson of australia. thompson was only playing because murray's original opponent aljaz bedene pulled out injured this morning. adam wild reports on a remarkable turn of events. back on the green grass of home, a familiar reception for andy murray at queens, even if the opponent was not quite who he was expecting. australian jordan thompson not quite who he was expecting. australianjordan thompson drafted in at short notice and here he was making the most of his opportunity. there are plenty who would have been daunted by the task. murray is a five—time champion after all at queens. but if thompson was daunted these did not show it. forcing the world number one into a first set tie—break and then forcing the error to win it. this was certainly not the andy murray to which the crowds have grown accustomed. his brilliance only in the briefest lashes. he pressured into trying the spectacular, this was long and thompson had the first break of the match. the world number 90 would find another before his chance to serve for the pursuit, nerves nowhere to be seen. wasjordan thompson's moment. what a win, what a shock. the man who is five times champion, the world number one, 0lympic champion, the world number one, olympic champion, he is gone. andy murray may be back on familiar turf but staying here was all too brief. to get a win is definitely the biggest of my career. when you walked on court today did you think i would be happy with four on four but did you think i will take down the world number one? but did you think i will take down the world number one ?|i but did you think i will take down the world number one? i definitely did not expect to win here in straight sets. i just wanted to enjoy myself and stay calm and i think i did that. the man who murray beat in last year's queens and wimbledon finals is out. milos raonic lost in straight sets to australia's thanasi kokkinakis — both sets going to tie—breaks. and another shock today — second seed stan wawrinka was beaten in straight sets by spain's feliciano lopez. the swiss was playing his first match since losing in the final of the french open to rafa nadal nine days ago. britain'sjohanna konta has made a winning start to the aegon classic in birmingham. the world number seven found it difficult at times, but came through against ukraine's lesia tsurenko in straight sets to reach the last set, as maz farookhi reports. finding her feet on grass. johanna konta is still getting used to the surface. she almost went all the way at the nottingham open last week before stumbling in the final. even so she started on a firm footing here. her opening play was calm and clinical. she tookjust half an hour to claim the opening set. when lesia tsurenko fought back she began to unravel. she still has a tendency to panic on grass and soon found herself three games behind. when she called for medical attention over a high heart rate there was concern that the match could be over. but instead it proved a turning point withjohanna konta fighting back to force the set into a tie—break. she ground her way to the finish line and the british number one clearly still finding her game but racking up a win ahead of wimbledon can only help her confidence. back to andy murray, who's mum judy has told the bbc that she has been urging parents of potential star players to think carefully before sending their children away from home to further their careers. she admitted that although andy thrived in spain as a teenager, his brother jamie's career suffered after he left home as the world's best under—i2 player. judy murray has been talking to katherine downes. at the time you do what you think is the best thing and it seemed a great opportunity forjamie. he wanted to go and because there is no track record of success in tennessee had it in his mind he would have to leave the country. even though he was very young, it was what he had set his heart on trying to do. but it did not work out. not the way we had hoped it might. and he was very homesick, the tennis was not what it was promised to be. and if i had known then what i know now i never would have let him go. but as a tennis coach i was inexperienced and i think now i spend a lot of time advising parents not to rip up the schooling at the friends and family, all the things that make a child secure in favour of chasing a sporting dream that may never come to anything because very few tennis players make a living out of it. it isa players make a living out of it. it is a really tough sport. so i think keep them in their secure home environment for as long as you can. but andy did go away and so were you worried when he said i want to go to spain and trained over their after what happened to jamie? spain and trained over their after what happened to jamie ?|j spain and trained over their after what happened to jamie? i think andy was 15 when he went and that is a com pletely was 15 when he went and that is a completely different situation. he was much older. his game much more formed. he knew that was what he wa nted formed. he knew that was what he wanted to do and it all came about through a game of racquetball with rafa nadal when rafa told him he had trained in majorca and played on clay and got to practice with the world number one of the time. he did not go to school and was out of the sunshine. andy realised, what i'm doing down at the university playing with you my brother, i want to go to spain ori with you my brother, i want to go to spain or i will fall behind. so it came from him through rafa nadal. and we went and had a look and found somewhere he chose the place he wa nted somewhere he chose the place he wanted to go to where he knew a couple of opportunity in scotland. we did not have the sparring partners or the training services or coaching expertise. but he was 15 andi coaching expertise. but he was 15 and i think that is a big difference between that and i2. with just four days to go before the first test against the all blacks, british and irish lions coach warren gatland says his squad are building up nicely towards a peak — that's after an impressive 3a—6 point victory over the chiefs this morning. it was a final chance for some players to seal a place in saturday's test squad and one or two did their prospects no harm — as katie gornall reports from wellington. wherever they go the heat is always on the lions. for several players this was a last chance to impress. the oncoming on the toughest of drawers for warren gatland. if we dropped a couple of games we said it would not be the end of the world because it was about getting better with two week and we have demonstrated that, we have got better the longer we have beenin have got better the longer we have been in new zealand. this was a convincing win for the lions, the first for the midweek team on this tour. and although it came against a young and depleted cheapside, it keeps the momentum building ahead of the all—importa nt first keeps the momentum building ahead of the all—important first test on from new zealand — but the side's performance has impressed some former lions. jason robinson, the england winger with the lions in 2001 and 2005 tweeted... tommy bowe, the irish winger on the last correspondent richard conway has more details. the spanish tax authorities said justin renewal has defrauded them of £2.9 million, dating back from 2011 and to those on the 12th when he was in charge of real madrid. no comment from jose mourinho today or his current employer, manchester united. but the spanish prosecutors say it relates to image rights, and the use of structured around them. this rejected last month. it shows clearly that the spanish tax authorities have some of the world's most high profile players and managers in their sights when it comes to image rights and they're going to go after them. the scottish fa will meet representatives of the national women's team tomorrow in an attempt to negotiate and end their dispute. scotland's women have been refusing to carry out their media or commercial activities in a row over terms and conditions. neither the players or the sfa will reveal details of the players demands with the sfa saying only, "we can confirm that we are
