Deputy first minister, Martin Mcguinness has announced hes to retire from frontline politics, and wont seek re election to the Stormont Assembly in march. He says hes planning to stand down in may, on the tenth anniversary of devolved government and power sharing. Hes been speaking to our Northern Ireland Political Editor mark devenport. In the aftermath of the Assembly Election last year i agreed to stay on. I was very honoured to be asked to stay on by the party as deputy first minister, but i said i would do it for a further year, which would bring me to 8th of may. This year would have been the tenth anniversary, and say ian paisley said it was an historic moment. I thought it was an appropriate time for me to stand aside as debbie first minister, and make for a new Sinn Fein Deputy first minister. The people generally, and of course my own Party Colleagues in sinn fein, both nationally and here, in the city. I have taken a decision, and it has been well thought out. I have to be honest, with all of those groups and people, i have to be honest with myself, the questions i ask myself, are you capable, physically capable of fighting this election with the intensity that elections need to be fought .
