Confused over your rights, you are not the only one. Weve been inundated with questions and ill be answering some. The campaign to offer Free School Meals to more children it was backed by Marcus Rashford on this programme now it gets endorsement from a major government review. Good morning. Its 500 test wickets for stuart broad. He becomes only the seventh cricketer in history to reach that milestone and says hes only getting better. Curry and a pint with the prince. What happened when peter crouch and his podcast team went round to the palace for a chat. There was an ebbo driver out there on the floor. Good morning. Today is looking like a dry day for most of us. Warmer because we will have lighter winds. The real warmth of the heat will be on friday. It will be short lived. They will have all the details later on in the programme. Its wednesday the 29th ofjuly. Our top story the government is under pressure to back testing of all uk arrivals in order to shorten the 14 day quarantine period. It comes as the Prime Minister says there are signs of a second wave its wednesday the 29th ofjuly. It comes as the Prime Minister says there are signs of a second wave of the pandemic in parts of europe, leaving the travel industry and holidaymakers worried about which countries might be taken off the safe list next. Greg mckenzie reports. On any given day injuly, Heathrow Airport sees over 200,000 passengers daily. But like most airports in the uk, most flights are grounded because less people are travelling in these uncertain times. The airports boss is calling on the government to help ease quarantine restrictions on passengers arriving from high risk countries with a scheme for coronavirus tests on landing. Heathrow was one of the first two pilot body temperature scanners. First two pilot body temperature scanners. Testing arrival is a good start and weve been working for a few weeks now so we can start a trial which we need Government Support for. His call comes after the Prime Minister warned further european nations could lose the exempted status amid signs of a second wave of covid 19 following a spike in cases in some regions of spain. Lets be absolutely clear about what is happening amongst some of our european friends, im afraid you are starting to see, in some places, the size of a second wave of the pandemic. And we all remember what happened last time. The Prime Minister impose a warning against all but essential travel to spain and insists the travellers arriving in the uk from their spend 1a days in quarantine. The latest figures from the European Centre for the prevention and control show over the last 1a days the number of covid cases in spain were at 47 per 100,000 people. Elsewhere, luxembourg saw 222 cases, croatia saw 27, belgium 29, frances 16, and germany eight cases per 100,000 people. And what we have to do all over europe and, indeed, all of the world, is to stop these spikes from developing into big outbreaks really quickly and efficiently everywhere. But as for testing at uk airports, well the jury is still out. Government sources have told the bbc there are no plans to introduce testing at airports at the moment. Greg mckenzie, bbc news. Our Political Correspondent Jessica Parkerjoins us now from westminster. We had the Prime Minister talking about what he thought might be a second surge. And what about the politics behind all of that . second surge. And what about the politics behind all of that . I think the Prime Minister clearly voicing deep concern about the possibility and it was then echoed not long after my Nicola Sturgeon who said there was a worrying resurgence in parts of europe. So clearly with ministers in westminster and in scotla nd ministers in westminster and in scotland as well, they are keeping a very close eye in terms of what is happening over in europe. On this issue of testing, its a bit of a complicated one, as ever, with coronavirus. Something ministers have been talking about is how, well, ok, if youjust have been talking about is how, well, ok, if you just people as they arrive in the airport, if they have come back from spain, it is possible they could just with a false negative because perhaps the virus isnt yet showing signs or symptoms and that person thinking they dont have the virus could go back out into the community. Interestingly, a transport minister yesterday, baroness wheeler, did talk about the possibility of testing people on certain days after that comeback while they are in she said the government was looking at that. Yesterday there was a report in the daily telegraph, this idea that somebody could be tested on day eight having return to the uk and then be left back out into the community on day ten, that would mean that they were back at work, almost a week earlier than if they have to quarantine for a full two weeks. So it seems these ideas are being looked at, a more nuanced policy. But i think the balance of risk here, as ever. As we were saying, clearly use concern about whats going on in europe and what that could mean for the uk. Yes. Jessica, thank you very much. Well be speaking to the culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, at 7 30am. If youve got questions send them uk scientists are to receive millions of pounds of government funding to learn why ethnic minorities are at greater risk from covid 19. Six separate studies will analyse data on social circumstances, health and day to day activities, as well as investigating genetic risk factors. One will closely follow 30,000 healthcare and social care workers another examine a0 million patient records held by gps. More than a million extra schoolchildren in england should be entitled to Free School Meals. It is according to a new review commissioned by the government. It follows a successful ca m pa ig n by Marcus Rashford earlier this year. We saw the government roll back on plans to scrap the Voucher Scheme over the summer. Heres robert townsend. There are currently 1. 3 million children receiving Free School Meals in england. Those behind todays report calling for that number to more than double. The National Food strategy review is a further 1. 5 million children, his pa rents a re further 1. 5 million children, his parents are already in receipt of universal credit, should be included in the programme, with a recommendation for those from the poorest families to also be fed during holidays. The report, commissioned by the government and headed by the restaurant henry dimbleby, set urgent action was neededin dimbleby, set urgent action was needed in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, predicting a dramatic increase in unemployment and poverty for parents and increased hunger among children. The findings of the report follow a Successful Campaign led by the Manchester United player Marcus Rashford earlier this summer, we saw a government u turn over plans to withdraw Voucher Scheme. A government u turn over plans to withdraw Voucher Schemelj a government u turn over plans to withdraw Voucher Scheme. I think it, obviously, this is only going to be successful throughout the summer period and then, you know, weve bought ourselves an extra six weeks of time there to plan and figure out whats next and how we keep taking steps forward, because they dont wa nt steps forward, because they dont want it to be, i dont want this to be the end of it, you know, because its definitely the most steps to be taken and we just need to analyse the response. The reports authors say expanding the programme would cost a n say expanding the programme would cost an additional £670 million a year Stock Campaign is a failing to extend the scheme means the cost to the poorest children and society could be much higher. Robert townsend, bbc news. New measures to stop the spread of covid 19 have been introduced in old ham following a spike in cases. People living in the area are being asked not to have visitors to their homes, and to keep two metres apart when outside. Our reporter Gill Dummigan is in oldham for us this morning. Gill, what more can you tell us . Welcome of the most recent figures show that 119 people tested positive for covid in the past seven days. That is a rate ofjust over 50 per hundred thousand. Thats just about a third of leicesters rate at its height. But whats worrying people here is the speed of increase, because the week before the figures we re because the week before the figures were about one fifth of that. It was oldham as third highest in the country. The council thinks that much of this increase is being driven by infection within families, particularly larger families, so these measures reflect that. They are, as you say, asking people not to visit households. There are also asking people to stay two metres apart. In most of england, people shielding are going to be able to stop that on friday, but people here are being asked to keep going for two weeks longer and also not to visit relatives in care homes. Much of the focus here, as elsewhere, will be on friday, that is eid. A huge religious and social celebration, people getting together. They are asking people not together. They are asking people not to do that this year. They are saying we know it will be tough, but this is something weve got to do to get this infection down. 0k, thank you very much for that. Speculator on. Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine Mccann are continuing to search an allotment in hanover. They confirmed it was related to the investigation into christian b, a sex offender in prison in germany, who is the main suspect in the case. Work began at the site on monday and is expected to finish later today. Advising hospitals in england to discharge thousands of patients into care homes at the start of the pandemic, without knowing if they had coronavirus, has been described as reckless by mps. The Public Accounts Committee said the policy continued even when it was clear that a problem was emerging. The labour mp meg hillier, who chairs the committee, said that was a mistake. They wanted to discharge people from hospital who they described as medically fit, but that didnt include having a covid test, so people were being discharged to care homes with covid 19. And as we know, sadly, it spread and kill people in ca re sadly, it spread and kill people in care homes. And this is something that, you know, wasnt properly thought through. The focus was so much on the nhs and hospitals, which is the right thing to do, because, ina is the right thing to do, because, in a pandemic, but there wasnt a similar focus in a pandemic, but there wasnt a similarfocus on how in a pandemic, but there wasnt a similar focus on how to support care homes also with ppe, is something we have looked at as well before. With the effects of the coronavirus pandemic being felt across the Global Travel industry, one village in italy has gone the extra mile to attract tourists. San giovanni, which lies just two hours from rome and naples, is offering week long stays with free accommodation to a0 families until october. Organisers say the aim is to put the little known region of molise on the map as a tourism hotspot. It looks very nice, doesnt it . |j it looks very nice, doesnt it . I am not sure how you get a place that, but you can find out. Today marks the beginning of the hajj, when more than two million muslims embark on a five day pilgrimage to the holy city of mecca. This year, though, as a result of the pandemic, only a thousand pilgrims already resident in the kingdom will be allowed to take part. This family spent two years planning for the religious highpoint of their lives. It is a must for every muslim to perform the hajj at least once in their lifetime. Its a very important part of my religion. It would make me feel that i have up to a certain extent, completed my religion. Without that it feels that there is always something missing. They should have departed four at the weekend. Instead, they are still in the midlands and time is of the essence. Because of in the midlands and time is of the essence. Because of inrun we thought that, i wasnt feeling comfortable for him to go on his own. So we thought we would join him. Ive suffered a major heart attack back in 201a. By turning a0 year. My intention was to hopefully com plete year. My intention was to hopefully complete my hajj before im a0 and then you just never know whats around the corner. I feel fits in well enough at the moment, but who knows, this Time Next Year i might not be. And this might have been my only opportunity. A modern plague has disrupted an ancient pilgrimage. Last year, the hajj attracted more than 2 million pilgrims. This year the coronavirus pandemic has forced the coronavirus pandemic has forced the Saudi Arabian government to scale back, banning all foreigners from visiting the holy site. We still have to welcome the first worshippers yet. It is not officially opened. This shake, and in mum in leicester, is warning that the current quota system that allows a proportion of business from every nation to visit mecca each year is likely to be reduced. Sadly, the virus is going to be with us for some time. And we have to prepare ourselves, mentally, but also spiritually for that mental disappointment. Because, inevitably, the quotas for britain will have to be reduced. Back at home, the patel family continues its devotions, but theres no hiding their sense of loss. Do you think you be able to ta ke loss. Do you think you be able to take him next year . Martin bashir, bbc news. Lets take a look at todays papers. We start with the daily mail. The Prime Ministers fears of what he called a second wave of coronavirus feature on the front of many of the papers. That features on the front page today. They also have on the front page, borisjohnson was worried it could start within a fortnight. There is also amber heard. The telegraph reports that the boss of Heathrow Airport is urging the government to allow passengers to be tested for covid 19 on arrival. Well be speaking to the airports chief executive, john holland kaye, atjust after 8 00am this morning. The guardian calls for up to 1. 5 million more children in england to get Free School Meals, thats their focus. While the latest developments in the hunt for Madeleine Mccann leads the daily mirror as well. And Prince William . We have peter crouch on later. This was all done before, well most of it was done before, well most of it was done before lockdown, wasnt it . They went to the palace and had a pint and a curry. Prince william has divulged some information about how he used to play football. He joked about warding off his schoolboy football opponent. What he did was, when he was playing everyone wanted to break my legs. He got a Protection Officer to pose as a mock sniper, apparently, asking a Police Officer to shine a red dot on a rival player. It worked, but only for ten minutes. You sort of work it out after a while. We will have more on that later, it should be fine. Jane has sport today. Shes talking about stuart broad, there is a bit of broad, 500 test wickets. I feel sorry for him because he obviously did it in front of a completely empty stadium are normally for a significant moment like that you get a standing ovation. It was a sad affair. It was lovely, wasnt it . And he has got his sights onjimmy anderson, 589, four years older. He says hes getting with age. So well done, stuart broad. And this is about dogs. I love my dogs. This is in the daily mail, saying this dog, angus, she was a real stress buster during the lockdown stop news channels were on constantly, i was i was looking at social media, it was too much. And i was looking at social media, so going for walks with angus calmed me down. And some science as well. Did you know that scientists have created a new type of fish by accident . Its called the strutle fish. Of fish by accident . Its called the strutlefish. It might not be that small. Its the scale of my finger, very small. Well, what they were trying to do there were some hungarian scientists looking at the russian sturgeon, because it produces the worlds finest caviar. 0k. What they were going to do was combine that with the american cuttlefish, and this process is called gaynor genesis, when they ta ke called gaynor genesis, when they take the sperm of one species and develop it with the eggs from the other gynogenesis was that they didnt expect that transfer to happen in the offspring. They got hundreds of eggs, one is one part of his, two parts urgent, and the other pa rt his, two parts urgent, and the other part is one part of his, for parts urgent. They have created new fish sturgeon. The backlash against the 1a day quarantine for travellers coming back from spain to the uk continues this morning. Ninas got more on this for us this morning. I will do, iwill do, a bit later. Good morning. Thats right, the criticism keeps coming from british and spanish politicians, travel companies of course thousands of confused holiday makers. Just a quick reminder of where we are, anyone coming back to the uk from spain and its islands will have to provide an address and self isolate there for 1a days. The Foreign Office is also advising against all but essential travel to the whole of spain. If youre already there, you can finish your holiday, but if youre due to head out in the next few days, your insurance is unlikely to be valid. Now, once you get to your self isolation address, you cant go to work, kids cant go to childcare, and cant even go to the shops unless you cant find someone to go for you. And you could be fined hundreds of pounds if you dont comply. Now, understandably, theres been lots of anger from travel companies who werent given any warning about this. You should get a refund if you were due to go on a package holiday, but if you have flights booked, things are tricky because that wont be automatic. Anger too from opposition politicians here in the uk and spanish leaders. They say a blanket quarantine just isnt logical, given different infection rates. Germany has similar quarantine rules but only for people coming back from certain regions of the uk. Of particular surprise is the inclusion of the canary and balearic islands, where infection rates are relatively low. Well, Marcus Livermore runs the bamboo beach bar in palma nova in majorca and joins me now. Good morning to you. Thank you for joining us. Im interested to hear how the atmosphere changed in majorca over the weekend . Its been very anxious for a lot of people. They have spent a lot of money and for this to happen to them has been devastating. Maybe 50 of my customers, british, will leave the island. You were looking forward to reopening after a long period where you had to let go of some staff. Yeah. Must be externally disappointing to not know what happens next . Exactly. You dont know what is happening. You couldnt foresee this happening last week. And last week it was getting busier, getting more confidence into business, and now for this to happen, we just do not know what is going to happen. Can you quantify the impact it has had on your business, how much money has been lost . Yeah, sure. When we opened up, we we re lost . Yeah, sure. When we opened up, we were about, i would say, 80 down on our we were about, i would say, 80 down on ourtakings, and we were about, i would say, 80 down on our takings, and slowly since we opened it, getting better. A stark difference yesterday in our takings. Its hard on the staff and their hours, the full effect is yet to be seen. What other customers saying to you . Are some going home early so they can begin quarantine and go back to work quicker . Yes, they are. They are, basically, leaving. There are not there is not much people can do. They have to go back and get quarantine out of the way so they can go back to work. In the warriors, marcus, this all happened so quickly, so even if the corridor is reopened, it could be shut down again. This is going to affect confidence, isnt it . Exactly. A lot of people, i think, have lost confidence with going abroad for their holidays for this year. I personally do not know what is going to happen. Things have changed so fa st over to happen. Things have changed so fast over the last few weeks, and seeing an increase in business, then all of a sudden this happens. In the uk government and everybody was market confidence again, even if a corridor was reopened. And people coming out because of that confidence now being pulled away. The uncertainty of not knowing 100 whether you are opened or closed is harder. You can deal with lockdown but taking on staff comes with expenses, doesnt it . It does. Opening a business costs they like. Getting the virus set up and all the food back in. And then not knowing where that is an a lot of the food is obviously perishable. So when we first went into lockdown, we had to throw away a lot of food. And i know a lot of businesses in a similar situation at the moment now, where you dont know where you are with the stock. It costs a lot of money. And this will be difficult because the players cant take back the stock. It is a huge financial burden suppliers. Stock. It is a huge financial burden suppliers. You are pulling on savings, how long would this be able to go on for before you call it a day . Its a difficult situation. This isnt normally goes till november of the season. My plan is to go to april of next year, that is to go to april of next year, that is to go to april of next year, that is to be seen if i can financially do that. I know a lot of businesses will not be able to do that. Hopefully by april of next year it will start we will have another season. This season has been a complete write off. How were going to get through it is yet to be seen. We will make as much money as we can from a business point of view sustain that. Marcus, good luck. We wish you all the best for the months ahead. Thank you very much for joining us this morning. Thank you. So difficult for him. And i will be answering some of your questions after 8a m answering some of your questions after 8am this morning. These do get in touch if there is anything you wa nt to in touch if there is anything you want to know about. Your contacts are on the screen there. You got a real sense of the difficulty for people there are many now. Thank you very much. And we will be speaking to Oliver Dowden later this morning at 8 30am. If you have questions are quarantine at the moment or testing at airports, we will try and get you some of these topics with him a little bit later. Try and get through. Football, curry and karaoke sounds like a perfect night in for some, but how about at Kensington Palace with Prince William . The duke has taken part in Peter Crouchs latest podcast to talk about Mental Health in football he met the team ahead of lockdown, asjohnny dymond now reports. Sol so i made this curry for you boys. By so i made this curry for you boys. By royal appointment, the prince has got the proper times in paradigms income is not everyday you get surroundings like these you got this delivered to the palace . Getting the delivery and did have its challenges. There is an uber driver on the floor at the moment being frisked. This was a very informal Prince William, remembering the big night out, some really bad presence he had given his wife and musing on his royal powers to hire and fire the manager. Hes been very successful as england manager. If england had a disastrous run of form, could you suck him . Yep. But this wasnt all that is liking around a table. For years, Prince William has been talking about Mental Health. And using sport as a way to get through to man who might not normally think about it. They dont know what it is, but you do notice that guys find it a bit more difficult to relax, we talk about physical fitness, we all hit the gems and stay fit, we never really talk about Mental Fitness and its kind of the same thing gyms, will need to stay mentally fit, none more so need to stay mentally fit, none more so than professional athletes. Its huge pressure to play for england, you have to have your head razor sharp as well as your feet, your legs, all about. This is Prince Williams go, to make Mental Health something you can talk about at the match or over a curry goal. From sunday plays to professionals, the prince wants everybody in and southgate look safe for the moment. Donny damon, bbc news. Dymond. Well be speaking to peter crouch later in the programme, ataround 8 a0am. You are watching bbc breakfast. Still to come now the latest news. Gosh, i rememberthat well be looking back at nearly 50 years of classic newsround, as the bbc announces its dropping the shows teatime bulletin. Yes, its the new normal for kids. Watching it online. Well be discussing that shortly and bringing you the latest news and weather. It is now 6 27am. Now lets get the weather with carol. Good morning, everyone. Forsome of us, were off to a bright and sunny start as you can see in newcastle. This beautiful start of the day, blue skies for many of us. That is a similar story. Mainly dry today, later winds than yesterday, so its going to feel that little bit warmer. However, there is a plane the ointment. We have low pressure not too far from the north east of scotland, look at these isobars, still gusty winds view, still some patchy rain. And later on another clutch of runs coming from the west. First thing this morning we have some showers across north west scotland, some across cumbria, for example, many of those will peter out in the next few hours. And the winds will slowly start to ease across the Northern Isles, could be left with quite a lot of cloud and eventually the rain pushes away. The afternoon, the cards will build further south, so there will still be some sunny spells but we will see more cloud getting in across wales and into the midlands and the rain through west wales and Northern Ireland later on in the afternoon. Just today, 12 in the north to about 23 as we push further south. Through this evening and overnight our brand of rain advances. You can see it moving across the rsc in through wales, across parts of Northern Ireland come into north west england and eventually southern scotland. To the south of that there will be some clear skies, to the north there will also be clear skies as well. But overnight lows between 8 30 degrees. Tomorrow, we will still have the overnight rain moving northwards, because here it has joined forces with another man coming in from the south west, moving across Northern Ireland, Northern England and in through scotland. Behind it, it will improve, it will dry up in Northern Ireland and Northern England and south any scotland, but the sunshine tomorrow will be across england and wales. Here, we will see the temperatures really start to climb. When varying tomorrow of a southerly direction. 27 the top in london, 131a direction. 27 the top in london, 13 1a as we push further north. So, thursday into friday we have got our front continuing to push northwards, and the other side of that we have got a cold front bringing some rain which could be thundery at times across Northern Ireland. But the wind really veers. We start to pick up wind really veers. We start to pick up this hot Continental Air and it is dragged across our shores across most areas and most of us will see quite an increase in temperatures on friday itself stop equally, there will be a lot of dry weather and a lot of sunshine. This weather front coming in across Northern Ireland is likely to produce some rain, some of which could be thundery. And through the afternoon as temperatures rise, some might see the midlands and south eastern quarter, we could just be the odd thunderstorm developed. The reason our temperature is maybe 3233 in the reason our temperature is maybe 32 33 in london, it will feel humid, 2a in glasgow, that isnt going to last because as this weather front comes through as we go through the weekend, it is going to turn much cooler. Ill have more weather in half an hour. Hello, this is breakfast, with dan walker and louise minchin. Its 6 30am. Well bring you all the latest news and sport in a moment. But also on breakfast this morning we will be live in edinburgh and on the london eye, looking at the impact of coronavius on staycations. But, with holidays abroad continuing to dominate the news, well be attempting to answer some of the many questions youve been sending in to us. And, after Marcus Rashford has scored a major hit on Free School Meals following his interview here on breakfast, well hear calls for even more children to benefit. That didnt really that didnt really make that didnt really make sense, that didnt really make sense, what that didnt really make sense, what that didnt really make sense, what ijust said, did it . I didnt want to say anything. I chose to use some words, but nowhere near in the right order. We will be talking about Free School Meals, and an extension of that, later. I wander school meals, and an extension of that, later. Iwander down school meals, and an extension of that, later. I wander down a strange corridor. The government is under pressure to introduce coronavirus testing to all travellers arriving into the uk to help reduce the quarantine period. One idea is for passengers to be tested twice, once on arrival and again a number of days later, to confirm they are not infected with the virus. The government says it is looking at a range of options to manage the risk of people importing the disease. Lets talk about three of our top stories now those major studies into why ethnic minorities are at greater risk of covid 19, the new lockdown measures being introduced in oldham, and of course those second spikes in parts of europe. Lets speak to gp drjamie parker, who can guide us through those issues. He is in dorset for us this morning. Lovely to have you on the programme as ever. Lets run through some of those key issues this morning. We are hearing about over £a million to investigate why people from black, asian and minority ethnic backgrounds are more likely to die from covid 19. That sounds like money well spent, doesnt it . Yes, it sounds like money very well spent. It sounds like a significant amount of money. I am not in research myself. I dont know how far £a million goes, but i think it is exactly the kind of research that is needed to ensure that we learn as much as we can from the first wave, to understand how we can protect those more at risk in the second wave. Is that something you have noticed in your own area of practice . It is not something. We have a practice of 8000 people. We have a practice of 8000 people. We have only had a few people who have had the coronavirus, so it is much bigger studies that i needed to help understand the effects and understand the effects and understand why black, asian and ethnic minority groups are more at risk. You are on holiday at the moment, but as we are talking about stea k moment, but as we are talking about steak patients staycations versus foreign travel, there is this emphasis on spain and the quarantine being extended to other countries. Just remind us of the significance of those quarantine rules, and why it is important in trying to reduce the spread of the virus at the moment. At the moment, without testing, you dont know who has got the virus. You cant rely on whether someone has got symptoms or not, because we know that lots of people carry the virus without having symptoms. So at the moment, without the testing, that two week period is to allow people to come back home and not to spread it to other people in that two weeks. Thats the key thing, that it takes two weeks to develop symptoms. After that, you are fine, but without testing, you have to have those two weeks. Do you share the Prime Ministers concerns, the front page of the daily mail talking about fears of a second wave in two weeks. We are seeing a number of spikes in various European Countries and our various restrictions in old ham countries and our various restrictions in oldham in the uk as well. We are nowhere near through this, are we, yet . Know, and i think it isa this, are we, yet . Know, and i think it is a really, really difficult time. We are still in the middle of a pandemic in the worldwide picture is pretty grim at the moment. And so i think things will change and will change rapidly, and the government has to make very difficult decisions very quickly. Naturally, as you relax the social distancing rules, you are going to get an increase in cases, but it is a balance of the risk to health to the risk to the economy and the long term risk to nations. I know you are not in surgery at the moment because you are away with your family, but when people are coming in and they are talking about their specific health concerns, but generally asking you about advice for those who are worried, what would be that which you are giving your patients . think you have just got to follow the advice, which is do be careful, do remember that we are in the middle of a pandemic, so although things have relax for us in the uk at the moment, it is really important that you try and maintain that social distancing. You wash your hands, you wear a mask when appropriate, and just remember that while you are wearing that mask, it is to protect other people from you potentially carrying the virus. So i think while it is important to go out and enjoy the time, do be careful and remember that we are in the middle of a pandemic. Careful and remember that we are in the middle of a pandemicm careful and remember that we are in the middle of a pandemic. It is interesting that whole sort of holiday debate at the moment, as well. It is quite a split with we notice, when we do this topic. Those who are desperate for a break after being at home or in lockdown for months on end, and others thinking it feels unwise to book a foreign holiday during a Global Pandemic, and people are aware of those risks, but some people are willing to take those risks. Yes, and i think that does boil down to individual choice, andi does boil down to individual choice, and i think you have to make an informed decision based on your circumstances. I think some people may feel that they are more at risk if they go abroad. Other people may think because they are young and healthy that you can take that risk. But just healthy that you can take that risk. Butjust remember that even if you are young and healthy, you can get the virus and you can spread it to other people. Good to talk to you, and congratulations on having the mds shelves of anyone we have spoken to. I know you are on holidays, so you have an excuse, but there is literally hardly anything on them. Thank you. Lets talk about cricket, and a great result, really. Yes, and amongst those results, englands stuart broad. He has become only the seventh cricketer in history to take 500 test wickets. He reached the milestone at old trafford as england sealed a series win over the west indies. Patrick gearey reports. Ready, aim, fire. At his best, there is an inevitability about stuart broads bowling. Must be. It is 504 stuart broad. It took him about ten minutes yesterday morning to pass a point only six other players have ever gone beyond. As so often, broad started and finished englands charge to victory over the west indies. Ten wickets in the match, man of the match, man of the series, and yet no one there to witness his history barring his dad, chris, the match referee. To have contributed to his winning here and winning the series is awesome. It is a real shame not to have some family and friends here to be able to share the moment with, but to have dad here is quite unique and special, and to have dad match refereeing the game i get 500 and is pretty cool. The face is still almost as fresh as when he first followed his father into the family trade. Ijust played for first followed his father into the family trade. I just played for a hobby, really. Love watching it, loved playing in the back garden, loved playing in the back garden, loved playing in the back garden, loved playing for my club. His love for the game seemed to peak when it comes to the aussies. He has one the ashes down under, upset the aussies by not admitting he edged one to slip, bowled them out for 60, and last year again the australians brought the best for him. Though he has a pop star girlfriend in my leaking from the saturdays, cricket never far from leaking from the saturdays, cricket neverfarfrom his mind molly king. His former cogent Sports Personality of the year david steele recognised that streak. If you want a real cricketer in there, you wouldnt bear it down. He has made his money, he wants to play. He has done it now. Thats the thing. Hey . Why has he done it, because of what the game means to him. Perhaps that is the reason broad doesnt speak of goodbyes. Like his sidekick, jimmy anderson, the only englishman with more test wickets, he wants to keep going. So it is stuart broad, 501 and counting. Spare a thought for the west indies. Beaten in the series and having been in a bio bubble since the start ofjune, theyve had to spend another night in manchester after their flight home to antigua was postponed because of a Tropical Storm in the caribbean. So it doesnt just so it doesntjust rain here in england. It is day two of the glorious goodwood racing festival. Yesterdays highlight was a record fourth goodwood cup victory for the favourite, stradivarius, ridden by frankie dettori. It was a joint record sixth career win in the race for the jockey, who of course celebrated with his trademark leap from the saddle. Not bad for a a9 year old. The sixth round of rugby leagues challenge cup is going to be redrawn this evening. It is after toronto wolfpack and five other clubs from outside the super league pulled out of the competition. Championship clubs sheffield and york said concerns over player welfare were one of the reasons theyve withdrawn. The super league restarts this weekend, but the seasons in the second and third tier have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Andy murray is continuing his preparations for a restart to the professional tennis tour. He has been in action at the battle of the brits event in roehampton. He did actually lose in the mixed doubles yesterday, though. Better news for britains number one, johanna konta. She fought back to beat katie boulter, playing in only her second match since the womens tour was suspended in march. But, despite this being an all british competition, there was no shortage of competitive edge. Watch what happened when the mens number one, dan evans, beat kyle edmund. No handshakes, of course, but edmund didnt seem too happy, hitting racquets, which prompted a warning from evans. Evans eva ns gets evans gets the better of edmund in straight sets. Well, it was a high quality affair. Straight sets. Well, it was a highquality affair. If you didnt hear it there, he said careful, there, kyle. Afterwards, he said there was nothing in it, it was banter. Scotlands first minister has advised against non essential foreign travel amid increasing concerns about the risk of the spread of coronavirus across parts of europe. Nicola sturgeon encouraged those wanting to take a break to support the economy by holidaying in scotland. We can join our correspondent lorna gordon now, who is at one very popular tourist attraction in edinburgh for us this morning. Good morning, lorna. Yes, good morning from a very sunny Royal Yacht Britannia. It has been birthed here since it retired from Royal Service and reopen to the public this week berthed. 60 of Visitor Attractions in scotland have now reopened the doors, but the country feeling a staycation bonanza . Well, isa feeling a staycation bonanza . Well, is a very mixed picture. Some sectors in some parts of the country very doing better than others. Making the most of the summer weather out on the water at saint abs. Tourism businesses lost half of the Holiday Season because of lockdown, but here, at least, the visitors have been returning. Business has been absolutely fantastic since the end of lockdown st abbs. All of our chips are busy and getting picked up relatively quick. The village has been incredibly busy with tourists. Of people have gone up to the headlands for big walks, using the local cafes, heading to beach. But, from the countryside to the cities, some places are not faring so well. In edinburgh, alone paper now providing the soundtrack in a city Centre Street which, when the festivals are under way, would be packed with tourists and performers. A lone piper. Packed with tourists and performers. A lone piper. Very quiet. Obviously now you would be expecting the fringe to be kicking in. You would hardly be able to walk up the street. Normal times you would be walking like this, you know. But it is what it is. You cant complain. From the piper to the pie maker around the corner, the summer, and during the festivals in particular, is when lots of businesses around here make lots of their money. But not this year. Well, we normally have about, in august, 1000 customers a day, average. Were down to about 50 customers day. 1000 down to about 50 customers day. 1000 down to 50. Thats not good, is it . Her sentiment shared by others, who rely on the conferences, gatherings and events which would usually be taking place in scotlands cities. Yes, i think a very mixed picture, to be honest. The cities have had the biggest hit, hotels that would normally be full, or 90 plus occupied, experiencing levels of around 20 , which is a huge difference. Whereas some parts of the rural economy, particularly in the rural economy, particularly in the self catering sector, seem to be doing pretty well. As more city based attractions reopen, it is hoped more visitors will be tempted back. And this is. The mirror maze. And some attractions are finding a way through, albeit with reduced numbers and covid safety restrictions in place. It was a huge relief to open after such a long time shut. We had our busiest year ever nasty with a000 daily businesses. Do you feel confident about the future . Were all living ina about the future . Were all living in a different world with different conditions, and we have to adapt to that. We have adapted here, our visitors are adapting as well. So yes, iam visitors are adapting as well. So yes, i am quietly confident that we will be all right. Some businesses have shut, though, and the hundreds of thousands of people in scotland who rely on tourism for theirjobs are focusing on a recovery they are hoping might be just over the horizon. We are now on a windy bow of the yacht and with me as danny, the chief executive of the Royal Yacht Britannia. Youve only been here for two days, but how you generally . Its been a tough four months for the business. It has been felt very ha rd the business. It has been felt very hard and we have lost millions of pounds, we have had to furlough over 60 of our staff. We dont know how we will be open fully again. Its been a tough few days. How many people you normally go through the doors and how many getting through now . Normally in july we would pass 1600 and yesterday we had 300. So a smaller proportion. It is a magnificent ship. Where we are at the moment . We are on the bridge, andi the moment . We are on the bridge, and i need the command centre. And i need the command centre. And we are in the command centre. Over1 million miles out across the world. That is the compass . What you dont get to see is the wheel, and thatis dont get to see is the wheel, and that is the best bit. Wheel houses dont have windows have windows so the captain can see where they are going. And much of this is all seasonal, isnt it . We are quite fortu nate we seasonal, isnt it . We are quite fortunate we get maybe six or seven months where we would normally make money, and five months or so where we lose money, but we are facing up to the prospect of losing money for the next year. Tough times ahead, i think for you, and the industry widely as well. The scottish tourism has been a very tough four months and facing up to the prospect of another winter. So the assistance we have received, the furlough scheme isa have received, the furlough scheme is a been a huge help to the business. Are you feeling confident about the future . Im always confident, but its going to be a tough 18 months at least and we are hopefully going to get some more government assistance available. There are no visitors outside, we have this to me to distance between us we are have this to me to distance between us we are not Wearing Masks stubborn eve ryo ne us we are not Wearing Masks stubborn everyone is now having to have covert safe regulations in place. Its a very different experience for visitors . Covidsafe. Not much apart from cleaning, hand sanitiser is everywhere, regular cleaning, a lot more signage, you know, and the tearoom we are operating with a one metre plus rule. And our shop, staff are wearing visors. Also on the ship, complying with all of the guidelines and regulations issued. Good feedback from people . Very much though. Everyone is delighted to get out to play again. Delighted to play again. Thank you very much for that was not about 300 visitors a day down from capacity of 1600 in a normal year here on the Royal Yacht Britannia. Edinburgh is well more generally feeling much quieter this year, usually a big destination for tourists because of the Edinburgh Festival is, they have all been cancelled this year, some of the moving online. So many interesting facts there as well, lorna. Lets go to london. A number of londons iconic Tourist Attractions are reopening this weekend. Breakfasts tim muffett is in the capital for us this morning. Beautiful view this morning, tim, andi beautiful view this morning, tim, and i think you are nearer the london eye . Yeah, just near the bottom of it. It is a slightly chilly morning this morning on the south side of the river thames next to what is one of the most famous, iconic landmarks of london, the most popular paid tourist attraction in the uk. It is of course the london eye, built in 1999, known as the millennium wheel for a while, about 135 metres high and a30 feet. This saturday, after several months of being closed, it will be reopening, which is very good news indeed for neil, the head of technical operations, and taking some temperatures as well. This is a big now, isnt it, how do you feel . Its amazing, its really exciting for us to be opening on saturday, our teams have been planning for months in the background to ensure when we do openly opening really safe way for oui openly opening really safe way for our guests. Preserving that experience which we are known for. Normally this would be packed with people queueing. That isnt going to be the case. How will it work . We are encouraging guests to pre book in advance and stagger their arrival time to allow social distancing to be maintained. Then having tickets checked as normal and we will offer them some hands on advisor and they will have their temperature taken as a condition of entry. And checking they have Face Coverings, so when they have Face Coverings, so when they are coming on they have a Face Covering from being in the pod, and then welcoming them up here to the security team, who will be taking their checking them as they go on as per normal procedure. So a maximum of eight people per pod, i gather . We have reduced capacity down, and that allows our guests to move around the pod is normal and get those 360 degrees views which we are famous for. We really want to preserve that experience for guests. Face coverings are a key thing. Anyone over 11 will need to be wearing one. Would that be a pleasa nt wearing one. Would that be a pleasant experience . It takes quite a while to get around. It will be a great experience. And what we really see ourselves focusing on is maintaining that experience. We know people are itching to get out and we wa nt people are itching to get out and we want to provide something that gives them that excitement to do in their downtime. There are number of venues opening on saturday. I will put it is this for the tourist industry, for cities such london, which are so reliant on people coming out and having a good time . Its really important. Tourism is such a big thing for london. And working with our partner attractions and other areas in the sector, we are really, really looking forward to getting back to doing what we love, not as welcoming people across the world into london, to give the best of what is an amazing city. It is amazing. Still early in the morning but normally this area would be really, really ramp, especially the weekend. Any idea roughly how many people will be taking part . weekend. Any idea roughly how many people will be taking part . I think this is getting wet on the fact that things will be a little bit different to how they were getting away, but we know people wa nt getting away, but we know people want to get back to london, its a city people connect with across the uk and the world and we are excited for what the future has in store. Neal, thank you. Later on will be getting on in one of the pods and putting on Face Coverings and seeing for ourselves how it is going to work. This is such a popular tourist attraction normally, so what will it be, how will it will be different, we will find out later in the programme. Thank you, tim. Many people will be spending their holiday a lot closer to home this year, but with the Summer Season shortened, the labour party has warned that our popular tourist towns could face a starkjob crisis. It is calling for more targeted support forjobs reliant on tourism. Were joined now by the shadow work and pensions secretary, jonathan reynolds. Good morning to you. Thank you much indeed forjoining us. I suppose, its interesting talking to you this morning because we know so many people will actually be holidaying here in the uk. So what are you concerned about . Good morning. Yes, im going to be one of those people, andi im going to be one of those people, and i think were very fortunate as and i think were very fortunate as a country have so many world class tourist destinations year within the uk. What our Research Shows today that we know unemployment has grown significantly across the whole country but it has grown disproportionately on those tourist towns. Yes, we want more people to be in the uk, going in the holiday does my going on holiday more locally, they wont solve long term problems was that it is a short Holiday Season this year and because of the quite right regulations in place, most businesses will not have full capacity. What we are concerned about is the furlough scheme starting to be wound down from the beginning of next month. What we believe needs to happen, is the government needs to respond to this kind of research which shows the sectors hardest hit by the crisis, and make sure we drop the one size fits all approach and instead focus on these particular sectors, because if we dont, they can be difficult times ahead. The government has a ready announced earlier this month £10 million to kickstart Domestic Tourism and for new funding for businesses in tourist destinations, bringing jobs, businesses in tourist destinations, bringingjobs, funding, businesses in tourist destinations, bringing jobs, funding, investment and financial support. That is what the local government minister, simon clarke said. Are they not doing what you say . You have to understand his gather disgraces we have to understand how long it is going to last understand this crisis. As they start making contributions to their wage bill as the early scheme is wound down, if their revenue cannot justify will bring is wound down, if their revenue cannotjustify will bring in the money to pay that wage bill, they will have to start laying more people. We have a ready seen unemployment rose rose by 100 , rise, so i cannot stress this gather the crisis and why more support will be needed. Crucially, the laudable announcements we have, the laudable announcements we have, the crucial issue is if businesses cannot afford to make those contributions to their own payroll, we will see unemployment rise further. There is already the furlough scheme, as you said, 9. 5 Million People currently using it. The government has to understand it cannot just the government has to understand it cannotjust go back to the public each time we see the scale of this crisis grow and say, look, give us some praise, this is what were doing. Of course that has been the right thing to do. But the crucial thing is this, we know some sectors have been much harder hit than others and those sectors that would usually people back to work the quickest, things like hospitality and tourism, if those businesses cannot generate the revenue they need, then it is too soon to start closing date furlough scheme, especially when you think not only contributions have to be made from beginning of next month, the whole scheme itself could potentially burn down completely by the end of october. It is too soon, the government is going to drop that one size fits all approach and it must target support where it is needed. We have to fight for everyjob in this crisis. Lets talk about another sector, of course, the travel industry as a whole. Lots of things going on there. The minister talking about fears of a second wave in europe. What your assessment . Well, a plan for a second wave should have been inherent at the beginning of this crisis. We know from history it has often been the second wave of a crisis like this that has been the most deadly. The crucial thing is that we need to respond to that other things that we needed to the things that we needed to the things that we needed to the things that we needed to respond to that with the things we needed the beginning of this, and effective test and trace system, and we are nowhere near that yet. I understand one in six of the people that the system tries to trace are on average found and contacted, and at the same time about, the number of tests protested within 2a hours is actually diminishing, not increasing, being processed. And on the test system for people arriving in the uk and a second test is welcome anything that is the right thing to do . Well, test and raises the only way to get us back to any sort of confidence and normality in the economy. That is going to be targeted just people coming back to the uk, that has to be for everyone at all times has to be able to respond quickly. We havent got that yet, were four months into this crisis and we should have in place a system that can do and im afraid we dont. The government simply has to get on top of that. Thank you very much for your time here on bbc brea kfast. Much for your time here on bbc breakfast. Jonathan reynolds. Weve been in attenborough and london this morning, carol, it looks beautiful out there. What is happening, good morning. Edinburgh. The morning, it is beautiful. So some of us it has been a bit chilly, this is elstree, blue skies and if we go north, newcastle also having blue skies. The forecast for today is one of sunny spells, at times through the day there will be large areas of cloud floating around that we have seen in the previous couple of days, but with lighter winds for most of us it will feel that little bit milder. And i say most, because this low pressure over scandinavia is still having an effect on the far east of scotland, the Northern Isles, still gusty winds, and then we have a new system coming in from the west. High pressure is in charge of our weather, so things are fairly settled through the day. We will see some large amounts of sunshine, actually, in the Channel Islands was across southern england and wales there will be areas of cloud, maybe the odd shower but what you will find you some sunny skies, too. A great start in Northern Ireland, Northern England a bunch of scotland. Does mcbride start. Areas of cloud with sunshine. The day, as this clutch of runs coming from the west the cloud of the head of them, particularly across wales and the midlands, and we will see some splashes of rain getting into west wales and also Northern Ireland as we go through the course of the afternoon. Temperatures today ranging from 12 in the north to about 23 as we come through the south. Andrew this evening and overnight here comes the rain. It will be putting across the rsc, through wales, getting into north west england, Northern Ireland, we see the odd spot in the north midlands. South of that, some clear skies and north of that also some clear skies. Temperatures falling to between 8 30 degrees. Now, heading on through the course of tomorrow, the rain continues across north wales, Northern England and also Northern Ireland, pushing steadily into scotland. We start off with sunshine in the south and as the weather front brings in the rain further north, the clearer skies will flow on behind. More of us will see sunshine by the end of the afternoon. Temperatures 13 and larry, 21 in newcastle, 25 in cardiff and 27 in london 13 in lerwick. Starting warm and feeling more humour during the course of thursday. Or friday, if you like your weather a bit hotter, this is the day for you. Because were going to see a lot of care coming up consonant a lot of air coming up from the continent over friday, but we do have a weather front coming in from the west, that will introduce a bit more cloud, some rain across Northern Ireland, some of that could be thundery. The top temperature by then, 32 degrees. The headlines are coming up. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast, with dan walker and louise minchin. Our headlines today a call for coronavirus tests at airports, to reduce the time travellers spend in quarantine. This morning we hear from the chief executive of heathrow. It comes as one Senior Scientist appears to back the Prime Ministers warning that cases are on the rise in europe whats actually happening is this virus, which had stopped being transmitted so widely because of the lockdowns, has now started to reassert itself, and itsjust coming back. The campaign to offer Free School Meals to more children. It was backed by Marcus Rashford on this programme. Now, it gets endorsement from a major government review. It is 500 test wickets for stuart broad. He becomes only the seventh cricketer in history to reach that milestone, and says he is only getting better. Curry and a pint with the prince. What happened when peter crouch and his podcast team went round to the palace for a chat. There is some curry for you boys, andi there is some curry for you boys, and i believe it is a local favourite . Its wednesday 29 july. Our top story the government is under pressure to back testing of all uk arrivals, in order to shorten the 1a day quarantine period. But like most airports in the uk, most flights are grounded, because less people are travelling in these uncertain times. The airports boss is calling on the government to help ease quarantine restrictions on passengers arriving from higher risk countries, with a scheme for coronavirus tests on landing. Heathrow was one of the first to pilot body temperature scanners. Testing on arrival is a good start, and weve been working weeks now so that we can start a trial, which we need Government Support for. His call comes after the Prime Minister warned further european nations could lose their exempted status amid signs of a second wave of covid 19, following a spike in cases in some regions of spain. Lets be absolutely clear about whats happening amongst some of our european friends. Im afraid you are starting to see, in some places, the signs of a second wave of the pandemic. And we all remember what happened last time. The Prime Minister reimposed a warning against all but essential travel to spain, and insists travellers arriving in the uk from there spend 1a days in quarantine. The latest figures from the European Centre for disease prevention and control show, over the last 1a days, the number of covid cases in spain were at a7 per 100,000 people. Elsewhere, luxembourg saw 222 cases, croatia saw 27, belgium 29, france 16, and germany eight cases per 100,000 people. And what we have to do all over europe, and indeed all of the world, is to stop these spikes from developing into big outbreaks, really quickly and efficiently everywhere. But as for testing at uk airports, well, the jury is still out. Government sources have told the bbc there are no plans to introduce testing at airports at the moment. Greg mckenzie, bbc news. Lets speak to our correspondent guy hedgecoe who is in the spanish capital, madrid, now. And i know the Spanish Government are still trying to negotiate with the British Government over these restrictions. Yes, thats right. Spain is very keen to get some kind of change to this quarantine policy. In particular it wants exemptions for areas like the Canary Islands and the balearic islands. Those areas have a much lower incidence of the virus than the rest of spain, andindeed the virus than the rest of spain, and indeed the rest of the uk. And the government would like to see an exemption for those areas, also possible anda lucia, down on the south. Those efforts have been u nsuccessful, south. Those efforts have been unsuccessful, but the government is insisting that the coronavirus outbreaks are localised in the north east of the country and it is doing Everything Possible to keep those under control andalusia. And it says that this is not a second wave. We heard from the Health Minister yesterday that this is not a second wave of the coronavirus, and the government is doing Everything Possible through the introduction of measures to try and get things under control, to ensure that second wave doesnt happen. Thank you very much. In the last few minutes labour has told this programme that the uk is heading for a jobs crisis unless theres an extention to the furlough scheme. Our Political Correspondent Jessica Parker is in westminster and can tell us more. Jessica, strong words from labour this morning. Yes, i mean, the labour party has now for some time been calling for an extension to the furlough scheme, which is of course being wound down over the coming months. They actually say more targeted support is needed for those areas and for those industries that have been particularly badly affected by lockdown, and are going to continue to struggle over the coming months. The shadow work and pensions secretary, jonathan reynolds, was speaking to you just a few moments ago. The biggest problem for businesses is, as they have to start making contributions to their wage bill because the furlough scheme is wound down, if their revenue cant justify or bring in the money to pay that wage bill, they will have to start laying more people. We have already seen unemployment rise by more than 1 across the whole of the uk, but our Research Shows in these tourist towns it is 65 Percentage Points higher. Sol tourist towns it is 65 Percentage Points higher. So i cannot stress enough the scale of the crisis and why more support would be needed. But crucially, whatever other initiatives are announced, laudable as they might be, the crucial problem is if businesses cannot afford to pay and make those contributions to their own payroll, we will see unemployment rise even further. Of course, downing street has emphasised that it has provided unprecedented support for Small Businesses over recent months, billions and billions of pounds that has gone into the furlough scheme and other schemes as well to try and proper the economy. But of course, what Boris Johnson proper the economy. But of course, what borisjohnson has been trying to do recently is to start easing the economy back to life. Of course, as of first of august he is encouraging more people to go back to the workplace. The government is saying they want employers and employees to have more discussions about where it is best for them to work, part of the discussion there is about productivity. So trying to get the nation moving. But it is interesting because the Aviation Industry is one of those sectors that within a huge amount of trouble. The government not long ago, this month, opened up these so called air bridges, hoping that would help revive that industry. But of course, fears of a second wave in europe leading to these stricter quarantine measures for tourists coming from spain. So it isjust again, with coronavirus, whenever the government looks to just open something up in terms of the economy, there is that fear, that risk, that it could lead to some kind of surge in the virus. It is an ongoing balance in terms of trying to protect Public Health, protect the economy. But of course, the economy, as well, if lots of people end up unemployed, there are concerns about the impact that could have an unemployment as well. Well be speaking to the culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, at 7 30am. More than a million extra School Children in england should be entitled to Free School Meals, with the poorest being fed during the holidays. That is according to a new review commissioned by the government. It follows a Successful Campaign by the Manchester United and england star Marcus Rashford earlier this year which saw the government roll back on plans to scrap its Voucher Scheme over the summer. Robert townsend reports. There are currently 1. 3 million children aged between seven and 16 receiving Free School Meals in england. But those behind todays report are calling for that number to more than double. The National Food strategy review says a further 1. 5 million children whose parents are already in receipt of universal credit should be included in the programme, with a recommendation for those from the poorest families to also be fed during the holidays. The report, commissioned by the government and headed by the restaurateur henry dimbleby, said urgent action was needed in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, predicting a dramatic increase in unemployment and poverty for parents, and increased hunger among children. The findings of the report follow a Successful Campaign led by the Manchester United player Marcus Rashford earlier this summer which saw a government u turn over plans to withdraw a Voucher Scheme. I think it, obviously, this is only going to be successful throughout the summer period and then, you know, weve bought ourselves an extra six weeks of time there to plan and figure out whats next and how we keep taking steps forward. Because i dont want it to be and i dont want this to be the end of it, you know, because its definitely more steps to be taken, and so we just need to analyse the response. The reports authors say expanding the programme would cost an additional £670 million a year. Campaigners say failing to extend the scheme means the cost to the poorest children in society could be much higher. Robert townsend, bbc news. The widow of pc andrew harper, who died after being dragged behind a carfor more than a mile in berkshire last august, has written to the Prime Minister asking for a retrial after her husbands killers were acquitted of murder. Mrs harper wrote to borisjohnson, the home secretary, priti patel, and the former labour home secretary lord blunkett, urging them and others to in her words right such a despicable wrong for our country. Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine Mccann are continuing to search an allotment in hanover. They confirmed it was related to the investigation into christian b, a sex offender in prison in germany who is the main suspect in the case. Work began at the site on monday and is expected to finish later today. The uk government has signed a deal with pharmaceutical giants glaxosmithkline and Sanofi Pasteur for 60 million doses of a potential covid 19 vaccine. If proved successful, it could be introduced in the first half of next year. Human clinical studies of the drug will begin in september. The government has now signed deals for four different types of potential coronavirus vaccines, which could benefit 250 Million People. And there will be subtle changes, went there, for people who live in oldham . They will, yes. The most recent data shows that 119 people tested positive here over the last week. Thats a rate ofjust over 50 per 100,000. Now, thats about a third of what lester was testing at the height of its problems. But what has got people worried here is the sheer speed of the increase. Its about five times what it was the week before. It puts oldham as third highest in the country, behind blackburn and leicester. In fact, of the ten worst affected areas in the country at the moment, six of them are here in the north west, so people here are very worried. Now, Oldham Council thinks the problem here is partly because of transmission within households, infection between people and households, particularly larger households, particularly larger households, and so the measures that we re households, and so the measures that were brought in reflect this. They are asking people not to have any visitors, to stay two metres apart from people when they meet outside. People who are shielding, most people in england, will be able to stop on friday, but people here are being asked to hang on for another two weeks, and they also asking people not to visit people in care homes. They are hoping that by doing this they can avoid any need for a local lockdown. There will also be attention on friday because that is eid, a huge religious and social celebration. People normally go to houses and have large gatherings. They are saying please dont do that this year. It is very important not to do that because we want to avoid any need for a local lockdown. Emerging evidence shows people from ethnic minorities are significantly more likely to die from covid 19 than the white population, but no one knows exactly why theyre more vulnerable. Now a set of ugent studies funded by the goverment will aim to answer that question once and for all. Pallab ghosh reports. This man died of coronavirus last month. He was a consultant psychiatrist in boston, in lincolnshire. He was on a ventilator for 70 days. When he was on a ventilator, we were told that in all likelihood he would probably die on the ventilator. However, you know, he battled on, he became better and he battled on, he became better and he came off the ventilator. Mid june he came off the ventilator. Mid june he deteriorated and suddenly a week after that he passed away. A disproportionate number of people who have died from coronavirus have been from ethnic minorities. The government has commissioned a set of urgent studies to find out why. Research shows that ethnic minorities are more likely to die from covid 19. Indians are at 1. 5 times greater risk than the white population. For bangladeshis and pakistanis, it is1. 8, population. For bangladeshis and pakistanis, it is 1. 8, and the highest risk is with lack people, at 1. 9. One study will closely follow 30,000 health and social care workers. Others will draw on various government databases of the health and lifestyle of different ethnic groups. Some of these studies may give us data before the 12 months is up, in which case immediately, as soon as we get any results, we will be hearing about them and seeing if there are any changes that we can make to reduce this risk in ethnic minority populations. Ethnic minorities are more likely to have jobs that bring them into contact with other people. The government hopes that the new research will help them identify the risks, and make the changes needed to save lives. Lets speak now to professor kamlesh khunti, who you saw in that report, and was involved in three of the six new research projects, also, john fagan. Johns mum sophie died with coronavirus in april. Good morning to you both, thank you for joining good morning to you both, thank you forjoining us. Professor, i know you are across all of these reports. How important is it to get to the bottom of what has been happening . Well, we know certain things, why certain ethnic minority populations are at high risk, but we still havent got to the bottom of it. And these studies will take us a bit further. Its important because if we are going to have Public Health campaigns, if we are going to have a test, trace and isolate situation which is perhaps not getting to these populations, so we can get to reduced rates and elimination, all of this information is really, really important. And if we do get some vaccination programmes, we really important. And if we do get some vaccination programmes, we can start deciding which populations we may need to prioritise for these types of programmes. So, professor, it is very much information gathering at this stage rather than coming up with solutions . Absolutely. As they said, we know certain things, but for all we know, we still think there is about 15 17 higher risk, and we are trying to see what else is increasing this risk in these populations. to see what else is increasing this risk in these populations. I dont wa nt to risk in these populations. I dont want to make a guess, but what are your thoughts on why it might become a professor . Ifi knew that, i dont mean we would be doing at many studies. I do not think we would be doing that many studies. We do not know how covid 19 behaves in this populations, we know certain things about it, we know ethnicity, certain conditions like diabetes, Heart Disease and hypertension, increasing in the population, we know they are factors, but we still in exactly everything. And this will ta ke in exactly everything. And this will take us some time. John, thank you for being with us as well. We know you lost your month to this virus. Tell us about your month, she was a nurse, wasnt she . She was. She was a nurse all her life and she worked in east london at the hospital. She started off as a nurse back in 1967 and she became a healthcare worker, looking after people who had been sick with serious illness and rehabilitating them back into the community. So supporting families and also helping these people. So yes, its very sad. And she worked right into much later in life, didnt she . Yeah, she was 78 when she died and she was still working up she died and she was still working up until the day she died. She was quite ill prior to her passing away on april 19, but yes, she was still employed by the nhs, still working and restarted. This covid 19 business, the previous person said it is, you know, itjust doesnt ta ke it is, you know, itjust doesnt take any prisoners. One minute youre 0k, take any prisoners. One minute youre ok, then the next minute it hits you and you just deteriorate badly and i saw that with my milder. John, hearing about this study, you reassured by that in any way, that these investigations are going on and money has been made available for that . When this all happened about four months ago, and my mum died in april, around the bame communities, we never knew it would disproportionately affect bame communities more so. Now that has come to light and it has been recognised, i think its a really good thing. The bame communities are underrepresented in certain communities, and i think, you know, if we can promote that and get people out there, get people understanding the actual implications of it, i think its a good thing. Because, yeah, Research Shows bame people are twice as likely to die from covid 19 is white people. You know, its a risk, but thatis people. You know, its a risk, but that is definitely a good thing. Professor, time is of the essence, of course, because we know these communities right now, is being impacted by coronavirus. How soon we get the results of these studies . When the funding came out for this, it was quite clear that all of the results had to be available within 12 months implemented. We are going to wait 12 months. Some of these studies will come out results in 3 6 months, in which case as soon as the results come out, we want to look at those results and see if we can implement the findings from those results to mitigate the risk as soon as possible. And john, we have spoken to before in this programme, thank you very much for your time again this morning. I think you mentioned you feel you do feel particularly vulnerable and are taking different decisions, are you . Well, for me, as i said, for that report, me having actually over 19 impact on my life in the way it has has made me more aware. I have a lwa ys has made me more aware. I have always kind of been, you know, Wearing Masks, watching my hands and all that sort of staff, and protecting myself and my family, but yes, this was a bit of a shock and my mum died from it. This could have had an impact, she is obviously asian and it might make things worse, but, you know, as i said before in the programme, its quite a difficult one, isnt it . The government are sending out guidelines, about Wearing Masks, personally i think it is a little bit too late. We should have had that three months ago, Wearing Masks in shops and on buses and all the rest of it. But, you know, anything to promote it and looking into the causes and to see if it can, you know, any research that can help people, is a good thing, i think. But certainly, compared to what you are saying, i am taking more care, i kind of always having making sure im myself and my family all the time. Professor, we know you are based in leicester, which is a high bame population, and there was an area of local lockdown there was that we have seen that in blackburn and oldham, which have a similar mixing population. What we know about larger, multigenerational households and how that appears to impact on the virus and spread . Certainly the two populations most affected a re certainly the two populations most affected are the elderly and the deprived populations. We know that bame populations are more likely to deliver in deprived communities and multigenerational families. More likely to live in. And these families are being more exposed to the virus. Some of these studies will help us find you workers that are transmitting these viruses will help us find the key workers. And john, before we go, what is your advice to people . Professor, if you can hear me . What is your advice to people . We heard aboutjohn being super cautious. I think all the advice that has been given so far that you have already mentioned, staying two metres away, hand hygiene, all of that is important. We need to make sure the test, trays and isolation policies are in place and isolation policies are in place and people understand them. Trace. If youre positive you must stay isolated and the contacts are available for testing or put into isolation as appropriate. Professor, really good to talk to you, and thank you for coming on breakfast, john. Very nice to speak to you. It is 7 23am. Many aspects of the coronavirus lockdown have now eased across the uk but some areas have introduced new measures to try to stop the spread. And the criticism keeps coming from british and spanish politicians and travel companies and thousands of confused and frustrated holiday makers. Just a reminder of where we are, anyone coming back to the uk from spain and its islands will have to provide an address and self isolate there for 1a days. The Foreign Office is also advising against all but essential travel to the whole of spain. If you are already there, you can finish your holiday, but if you would use a fly out there in the next few days, your insurance robert we wont be valid. Once you get to your isolation address, you cant go to work, the kids cant go to childcare, you cannot go to the shops unless you cannot go to the shops unless you cannot find someone to go for you. You could be fined hundreds of pounds as well if you do not comply. Understandably, lots of anger from travel companies. They were not given much notice about this, and as for you, you should get a refund if you were due to go on a package holiday, but if you book your flights to brackley, things could be tricky because that wont be automatic flights separately. Angerfrom opposition automatic flights separately. Anger from opposition politicians here in the uk and spanish leaders. They say this blanket quarantine just isnt logical given the variety of infection rates. Germany has similar quarantine rules but only for people coming back from certain regions of the uk. Of particular surprise is the inclusion of the ca nary surprise is the inclusion of the canary and only eric islands where the infection rates are relatively low ca nary the infection rates are relatively low Canary Islands and america islands. Im going to be trying to a nswer islands. Im going to be trying to answer some of your questions after answer some of your questions after a ten answer some of your questions after aten a. M. Answer some of your questions after a ten a. M. Ryanair appears to be the only airline at the moment that is offering transfers or refunds on flights after eight 10am. Is offering transfers or refunds on flights after eight 10am. And people have been sending in many questions, hundreds, literally. We will get through them. Thank you. Any aspects of the coronavirus lockdown had eased across the uk, there are some areas and will be looking at them this morning that introduce new measures to try stop the spread. Older men Greater Manchester have been a leader stands to bring in restrictions following what has been a dramatic rise in cases there. 119 cases, the week before, just 26. An old ham now has englands third highest rate of new cases per 100,000 people. Oldham. And from the deputy leader of oldham, how and from the deputy leader of old ham, how concerned and from the deputy leader of oldham, how concerned are you by this rise in numbers and why that is happening . Obviously there is a concern in the rise, if you think about the week before, ending july 17, we had around 25 cases and then in the following week we had about 19 cases, so we can see how the pattern can change so quickly. We are obviously concerned about that. I have stressed what were doing now is acting early to avoid a local lockdown of further restrictions. And there will be restrictions . So what is your message to people who live there. I have to say, i have to acknowledge in autumn our residents have been absolutely amazing. They have been absolutely amazing. They have been absolutely amazing. They have been complaining for the last four months and in the same spirit of coming together and helping save lives, they will continue to do that. I have to say this is a result nota that. I have to say this is a result not a result of behavioural issues, it is Socio Economic factors, i believe, that have caused the rise. Here everyone has been absolutely fantastic. I want to thank them and hope they continue to do that. What has the reaction be making the community to the fact there has been this increasing there will be more restrictions . What has the reaction being in the community . From the onset four months ago, people have been doing whatever it ta kes to people have been doing whatever it takes to come together and save lives. That is one of the things we have in oldham, people come together to do what is right and im happy to say they have done well, the behavioural sale has stuff has been amazing and we have seen that in the changes. And were trying to add act early to prevent a possible further lockdown. Thank you. We will be talking to peter crouch later about his invitation for poppadoms with the prince. And carol, you have been mentioning some very high temperatures . Good morning, everybody. By friday, some of us will be into the low 30s in terms of temperature, others into the mid high 20s, and we will get into that in a minute. Mid to high 20s. So it wont feel quite as fresh as yesterday, quite a bit warmer. Low pressure to the north east, Still Producing some rain in the Northern Isles and windy here, later on we have a clutch of fronts coming into the west. But in between, High Pressure is in charge. Although we have showers coming across north west scotland, some getting across north west england as well, for example, many of those will peter out. And today a lot of us will peter out. And today a lot of us will see some sunny intervals, at times there will be large areas of cloud floating around like in the last few days. But in any sunshine, temperatures between 12 23 degrees. The afternoon cloud will build across the midlands and wales, and we will see some rain coming into west wales and Northern Ireland by the end of the afternoon. And that band of rain will continue to push across wales, getting into parts of the midlands, Northern England, Northern Ireland, and eventually southern and eastern scotland through the course of the night. For northern scotland into the south of it for england, overnight lows following between 8 13 degrees. Tomorrow we pick up that first band of rain as it moves across wales, Northern England and southern scotla nd Northern England and southern scotland and then coming in across Northern Ireland, following a similar track. From the word go in the south, sunshine, and that will travel northwards as we go through the course of the day. And it will start to feel quite humid, especially in the south, with temperatures up to 27, pressure in the north at 13 or 1a degrees. Thursday into friday you can see this front was northwards, taking rain, but this cold front comes in from the west introducing breezy conditions and also thicker cloud and some rain and some of that could be boundary. But with the source of the aircoming be boundary. But with the source of the air coming from the near continent, look at how the colours change across the chart. We lose yellows a nd change across the chart. We lose yellows and see ambers return, that indicates temperatures are on the rise. A more humid feel on friday, more sunshine around, but in Northern Ireland, thicker cloud and rain. There is a chance of some thunder that as well. Equally, as temperatures rise across central and south eastern england, say from lincolnshire to the isle of wight and all points east, there is a risk you could catch a thunderstorm as well. So temperatures on friday, 16 in lerwick, 2a glasgow, 21 because of the cloud and rain in belfast and 32 possibly 33 in london itself. If thatis 32 possibly 33 in london itself. If that is too hot for you, dont worry, its not going to last because we have a cold front coming in from the atlantic during the course of the weekend. As it pushes steadily towards the east, temperatures behind it will fall. Ill have more in half an hour. Hello. This is breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. We go to our main story this morning. The government is under pressure to introduce coronavirus testing to all travellers arriving into the uk to help reduce the quarantine period. One idea is for passengers to be tested twice once on arrival and again a number of days later to confirm they are not infected with the virus. The government says its looking at a range of options to manage the risk of people importing the disease. Were joined now by the culture secretary, Oliver Dowden. Good morning. Thank you for talking to us. Can we start without testing at airport. There are lots of questions at the moment. We are speaking to the boss of heathrow. On the testing he says the uk needs a passenger testing regime fast. Without it britain is playing a game of quarantine roulette. Where are we with the potential of testing at airports . Yes, of course. And good morning. In relation to testing at airports, the challenge we have here is that its not the case that you can simply test somebody and be sure that they dont have the disease. It can incubate over a period of time. So theres not a Silver Bulletjust testing immediately at the border. Of course we are looking and reviewing other measures we could ta ke to reviewing other measures we could take to address this. But, at this stage, its not the case that we can simply test at the border and give people that assurance. Crosstalk. What about the potential of finding a pilot scheme where people are distant at the airport and followed up distant at the airport and followed up and monitored to make sure and if that does work that can then be rolled out, is that something you are looking at . Of course we will keep these things under review. Id genuinely appreciate how deeply frustrating it is for families who are looking forward to going holiday to spain this summer, after the dreadful year we have had so far. We have added the quarantine measures to ensure we keep the disease under control in this country and we dont import cases from spain we have had. This safest thing right now is for people to quarantine for 1a days because we cant rely on itjust straightaway. Of course we will look at other measures in order to mitigate the impact of this, to reduce reduce the burden on people. We dont want to be in a position where people have to isolate for 1a days. But we will only do that if it is safe to do so. If you are saying the safest thing is to quarantine for 1a days, then surely to come back from that the safest thing is not to travel at all. Well, yes, in respect of spain, we are advising against all but essential travel to spain. we are advising against all but essential travel to spain. I wanted to come back to that point. But want to come back to that point. But want to go back to the chief executive of heathrow as well, just on the testing issue, before a go on to quarantine more generally. He says testing offers a way to safely open up testing offers a way to safely open up travel and trade to some of the uks biggest markets. European competitors are racing ahead with passenger testing and if the uk doesnt act soon than Global Britain will be nothing more than a campaign slogan. Quite powerful words. Will be nothing more than a campaign slogan. Quite powerfulwords. Yes, they are powerful words in they understand his frustration and a particularly understand the frustrations, im sure, many of your viewers who are looking forward to going on holiday to spain. We have to act in a way to keep the virus under control in this country. It was rising in spain and we had to make sure we didnt import cases. That is why we are advising against all but essential travel and that is why we are asking people to quarantine for 1a days. If it is the case, and is not the case of the moment, and all the evidence is not that we can simply test people once and then so you can go back into the community, of course we will continue to work through this and if there are ways in which we can ease there are ways in which we can ease the burden we will do that. But, at the burden we will do that. But, at the moment, the safest thing to do is for people to quarantine for 1a days if they are returning from spain. The reason we are asking people to do that is to ensure the disease doesnt spread from spain into the United Kingdom. And thats why we thats why. We want to keep our economy open and the disease under control. The Prime Minister was talking about a significant return to normality by christmas. He is on the front pages talking about a second way. Do you share that fear . There is always a risk. We have been clear about that. We have opened up the economy and done it slowly and cautiously. Particularly in the area are responsible for, colter culture. We are utterly cautious of this risk and cannot move faster. Look around the world. You can see around the world the disease is continuing to spread out. We have worked incredibly hard in this country and eve ryo ne incredibly hard in this country and everyone has made sacrifices to ensure the disease remains under control and we will continue to take measures to do that whether its in relation to quarantine from spain or in relation to local lockdown. Our objective is to keep this disease under control in order to protect the nhs and to save lives. Do you have a sympathy for those whose travel players have been disrupted or do you feel it is unwise to be looking foreign travel at the moment . Plans. Looking foreign travel at the moment . Plans. They completely understand why people want to book foreign travel. We all want a break after the year we have had so far. Of course there is i was going to be an element of risk in relation to foreign travel. We have said that we we will keep this situation in other countries under review. I hope your viewers will appreciate the reason why were doing this is because after a ll why were doing this is because after all the sacrifices we have made, if the disease is rising in other countries we dont want to be in the situation where people are coming back from that country carrying covid and it starts to be spread widely in the United Kingdom again. Its all part of ensuring we keep it under control here so we can start to move back to more of our normal lives. The first minister of scotland, her quote was i wouldnt be booking a foreign holiday right now. Do you share that view . People need to be aware of the risk that quarantine could be imposed. But as long as people are aware of that risk they should continue to book holidays, but just to risk they should continue to book holidays, butjust to bear in mind that this might happen and it has happened in spain. There is advice, you have mentioned advice on spain, ryanairand you have mentioned advice on spain, ryanair and other airlines are still flying back and are not giving refunds to people who want to cancel. What are your feelings in that situation . Are theyjustified in doing that . I really think that airlines like ryanair and other travel operator should show a degree of flexibility and understanding for their customers and certainly look, for example, and how they can rebook passengers for a later date, offer credit notes, refunds as necessary. People should not be penalised for doing the right thing and doing the right thing now is not travelling to spain unless its essential to do so. Ok. On that issue will spain, the rate of the infections per 100,000 in spain is around 35 at the moment. If you look at luxembourg, it is 222 per 100,000 of the population occurring over the last fortnight. Will there be a reintroduction to restrictions to people travelling there . All the time you are trying to follow the data on the data would suggest, quite seriously, there is a problem that. Well, we have the joint centre for bio security who advises us and we work with the chief medical officer and others and if the data is pointing us in the direction we will take the appropriate action. In all of this what were to do was ensure that we dont import cases from other countries where the virus is rising because the consequence of thatis is rising because the consequence of that is we put more pressure in the uk, we risk its spreading in the uk, which then, in turn, we have to take more draconian measures again in the uk to keep the virus under control and after all the sacrifices we have made the last thing that eye or any other minister wants to do is to start re imposing restrictions in the United Kingdom. But in order to ensure we dont do that we have to ta ke ensure we dont do that we have to take bold measures, for example, in relation to quarantine in spain, we have to take bold measures in relation to local lockdowns, and we have to proceed in a cautious and careful way as we unlock the economy. There are so many people contacting us over the last few and i know you say you have sympathy for those whose travel plans have been disrupted. There are people who are confused and anxious as well. They are asking genuine questions about where your attention might be next. Were seeing the space in countries like france and germany. Are you able to tell us this morning, are you focusing on particular areas of concern that might come to light in the next few days . Where is the governments focus at the moment . do genuinely understand peoples frustration and anxiety about it. And, believe me, from friends and family and people they meet in the street, people are asking this question. They completely understand. Inevitably, what we have to do is analyse the situation in countries around the world where we feel there is too high a degree of risk, where the instance of the disease is rising in another country and we risk that import we have to ta ke and we risk that import we have to take measures, including advising against travel and quarantine. There will of course with the situation, whenever we announce it, there will be one person behind you in the queue and one person in front of you in the queue and the person in front of you in the queue will be able to go any person behind wont. Whenever you take a decision you are going to have that cut off consequence. I dont think it is helpful to give running commentaries. All they can say is we are taking expert advice, physically through the joint centre for bio security. If it is the case to protect people in this country in order to keep the disease under control in this country and to ensure we keep our economy open, we will have to continue to consider those measures and take them as necessary. Ok, being the culture secretary, it would be rouffet had you want today and didnt ask you about this Jump Start Fund for tv and film is in the uk it would be rude. We are fortunate in this country, we have a fantastically vibrant film and tv industry. It employs hundreds of thousands of people. One of the challenges they faced as they are reluctant to restart filming because they cant get the insurance if covid comes back and they have to stop. So we are saying to them, dont worry, we will help you with that and will cover your costs if covid restarts. By cover your costs if covid restarts. By doing that, we are ensuring that a£a by doing that, we are ensuring that a £a billion worth of investment in film and tv is restarted. That is 50,000 jobs. In terms of shows we all know, Something Like call the midwife can start filming again. It is actually exported to over 200 countries around the world. New films have been started in the uk, films have been started in the uk, films like benediction. There is a new Olivia Colman movie, all of those are great creative outputs, but they are securing jobs and investment in this country. Oliver dowden, good to speak to this morning. Thank you very much. Thank you. Iam sure i am sure some of you were watching that with interest. Testing our borders is not a Silver Bullet. When you asking about other borders. And he said there are elements of risk to foreign travel at the moment. Our think to foreign travel at the moment. Our think of viewers understand that. A lot of people are getting in contact saying we understand the risks and understandings will change but are still tangible the holiday. Others are saying why would you book a foreign holiday in the middle of a Global Pandemic . If you have particular issues about that nina will answer questions a little bit later. It was a good day, particularly at for someone at the cricket, wasnt it . Jane . Stuart broad says theres plenty more to come from him afterjoining an exclusive club of cricketers whove have taken 500 test match wickets. He reached the milestone as england beat the west indies at old trafford to complete the series win. Broad was so good he was also named man of the series. Hes just the seventh cricketer to pass 500 test wickets. Hes 3a now, and there have been some question marks as to how long he can carry on at the very top level. But speaking in the middle of a rainstorm in manchester broad says he looks to one of his best mates for inspiration to continue. Im nota im not a goal set up. I wouldnt look too far ahead. It almost looks quite daunting, another hundred. Jimmy anderson is my idol. He is someone a watch, work so closely with, a great friend of mine. The way he has gone about his business in the last few years, with both of us, getting better. Keep doing what were doing and you never know. We certainly have some overs left in us. It looked a bit miserable they are, didnt it . Manchester unitedsjesse lingard says he was lost as a player and a person during the last premier league season. In a particularly honest post on social media, the 27 year old said the season has been difficult for a number of reasons. Lingard previously revealed that hed taken on more responsibility for his younger brothers and sisters after his mother fell ill. The forward says hes working harder than ever before to help the team succeed. Andy murray is continuing preparations for the new professional tennis season at the battle of the brits event. Murray lost his opening match at the National Tennis centre in the mixed doubles alongsidejodie burrage. Hes only playing doubles in roehampton, because he says he doesnt want to take any risks with his fitness hes keeping an eye on the us open which starts at the end of august. And the live sport continues today at the glorious goodwood racing festival. Yesterdays highlight was a record fourth goodwood cup victory for the favourite stradi varius ridden by frankie dettori. It was a joint record sixth career win in the race for the jockey, who of course celebrated with his trademark leap from the saddle. Not bad for a a9 year old, eh . Not bad for a 49yearold, eh . They go through the ringer, those jockeys. Not bad for near 50. Back to our top story now, and the fallout from that 1a day quarantine for returning travellers from spain, including the balearics and Canary Islands, continues. Well discuss how much of an impact that will have on gran canaria in particular. We can speak to pablo llinares, whos managing director of the islands tourism board. Hejoins us now from las palmas. Good morning to you. It looks like a lovely day there. What you make of the fact that, you know, your island is included in this quarantine . Good morning everyone from gran canaria, the sunny grand canaria where it is really nice today. Yes, this news we have had in the last days, that the ca nary islands and have had in the last days, that the Canary Islands and balearics have been included in this decision by the uk government for the 1a day quarantine. We are really hugely upset because if you see our numbers of cases that we have had in the pandemic has had nothing to do with the uk. I mean, we have had 2500 cases in the full pandemic from if you compare to the uk now, you are in 300,000, so at the end of the day, if you see the situation of the pandemic, i can understand that eve ryo ne pandemic, i can understand that everyone is worrying about that, because we are very everyone is worrying about that, because we are very worried about that if you see the numbers, the number of cases, you can feel you are more safe now in gran canaria than in the uk, for example. We spoke to a government minister earlier this week and she said one of the issues was people travelling from gran canaria to other parts of spain, is that an issue . We are mainly receiving foreign people, of course we have some input from the mainland and some people from spain travelled to gran canaria, but this is not the real problem, because now the real problem is that we take ca re the real problem is that we take care in the destination about all of the procedures and all of the protocols about the coronavirus. Two weeks ago, the world tourism organisation, they were here having an investigation and certificated we rsf destination. We are taking every protocol about the coronavirus. We are a safe destination. So eve ryo ne we are a safe destination. So everyone travelling to gran canaria and feel that we are safe. Tell us what the impact has been of the fact there is now this quarantine on people returning to the uk from where you are. Has there been an impact already . Yeah, of course. You can feel that if you are thinking of having holidays, people from the uk have had 2 3 months at home and have been very careful about the coronavirus. Everyone has been as well, and now we are in summer, its our high season for the british market, from you, and for having holidays. Everyone was waiting for this. So the impact on the gran canaria, the this. So the impact on the gran ca naria, the hotels, this. So the impact on the gran canaria, the hotels, the apartments, for the economy and Tourism Sector in general is very huge. And this is not only a problem for gran canaria, this is a problem for Canary Island and the uk travel industry to. We are in touch with travel agencies and tour operators, airlines, they are very and tour operators, airlines, they are very worried about this decision. Are you optimistic it is going to change, from your point of view . Yeah, yeah. Were trying for the uk government to this decision and the Spanish Government, and the gran canaria government are in conversation with the uk government. And we are trying to push for the uk government to understand the situation, how different the situation, how different the situation is in the Canary Islands, i different the situation is in gran canaria to i different the situation is in gran ca naria to other i different the situation is in gran canaria to other parts of spain are different. So we want a corridor from the uk to gran canaria and the ca nary islands in from the uk to gran canaria and the Canary Islands in general. We think it would be very good for the british, for having holidays. We appreciate your time, pablo llina res, appreciate your time, pablo llinares, talking to us from las palmas. You are watching breakfast on bbc news this morning. A further 1. 5 million School Children in england should be brought into the Free School Meals programme, and more children should be fed during the school holidays, according to a government ordered review. It comes after a Successful Campaign earlier this summer by the footballer Marcus Rashford to extend the current Free School Meals scheme to children throughout the Summer Holidays. I think it obviously, this is only going to be successful throughout the summer period and then, you know, we have sort of bought ourselves an extra six weeks of time to figure out what is next and how we keep taking steps forward, because i dont want this to be the end of it, you know . Because there are definitely more steps that need to be taken. That was Marcus Rashford speaking to sally last month. So, who is eligible and what does it cost . Lets have a look through some of the numbers for you. Currently, about 1. 3 million School Children in england receive Free School Meals. Only pupils from households earning less than £7,a00 before benefits are eligible for the scheme. The review was called for the government to expand the programme to an additional 1. 5 million seven to 16 year olds. The cost of doing that would be about £670 million a year. Joining us now is the restaurateur, henry dimbleby, who is the author of todays report. Good morning. Really good to speak to you this morning. Do you think this was inspired by Marcus Rashford, is this a fear of influence he is going into . Sphere. I think what he did was inspirational. To have more voices like years rather than like mine, is really important was that there was a woman on my Advisory Panel that i met cold davey semple, who has really struggled herself, using fairbanks to feed her kids. Food banks, and having people whose lives are affected banks, and having people whose lives a re affected by banks, and having people whose lives are affected by that, being exposed to that will make a big difference. Dont do yourself down, though. It is good to speak to you as well. As important as it is to hear from Marcus Rashford from his own experiences growing up in what was important to him to have those school meals, i think would be good to hear from you this school meals, i think would be good to hearfrom you this morning of the importance, i suppose, to hearfrom you this morning of the importance, isuppose, of to hearfrom you this morning of the importance, i suppose, of nutrition a child. Yeah, so, the effect of hunger on young bodies is serious and long lasting. It is notjust physical, although it does alter a body structure and function irreversibly, there is strong evidence to show malnutrition in pregnancy and early years is associated with chronic illness in adulthood. But it isntjust health, hunger at school, it stops people concentrating, it increases mental illness, so this is an acute and long term political issue. I spent, i have a charity in hackney that has been providing school meals to disadvantaged children in the last period through the form of parcels. I have seen firsthand the difference between those and my childrens deposit lives who have an ipad, a good Internet Connection and a garden. My childrens lives. Those children have been disadvantaged even further in this period, following behind. Nutrition is the Foundation Stone of equality of opportunity. I think if the government is serious about levelling up, as this one is, that nutrition, ensuring the most disadvantaged children have the right nutrition to enable them to work, to learn, to engage in a world, is an essential Building Blocks about. And the government because my finances are stretched as you know, more ever before and the governments finances are stressed more than ever before, this would cost several million a year. Given the financial pressure at the moment committee think the recommendations from this review will be implemented . Im very optimistic that they will, actually. You are looking out a couple of pounds per child per day looking out, and in the scheme of Everything Else that is going on, the amounts being spent, this is a way of making sure there is not a scar in our society, and thus guarding a whole generation of children who have been left behind, seems to be very good value. And im sure the government will see that, too. I hope they will. One of the key issues the government will be talking about will be the issue of obesity. Yesterday they talked about exercise, use of cycles as well, you think that focus the government will make the recommendations from this review more likely, or less likely to happen . Do you think they will fit together . Well, actually, before the covid 19 crisis hit and turned all of our lives upside down, what i was working on was a National Food strategy, and intention of that was to create a food system that not only provided the amazing variety of food it does now, but stop making us an stop destroying the environment. And it was only because of covid that part one of the strategy, i refocused on a response to covid and is leaving the european union. I think there is so much that the government has recognised, the slow motion disaster that is our national diet. And i think this isjust the start. There is much more to do. But at the moment we have the second worst food culture in the world, it is killing us, overwhelming our energy as, and we need to do something about it overwhelming our nhs, and i was a more in part two of the strategy and i will say more. We look forward to that. Lets just bring you a view this morning from a couple of key locations were at. This is glorious, isnt it . This is the view from the Royal Yacht Britannia across the Ocean Terminal at the port of leith in edinburgh this morning. Lets have a little look. We heard earlierfrom our scotland correspondent lorna gordon who was on board, talking about tourism there after the Scottish First minister called on people to holiday there instead of heading abroad. And that could not be a better advertisement, could it . Lovely noise. Can you hear the seagulls . Get some keeper kippers. This is the view across london this morning, where a number of attractions are preparing to reopen this weekend, including the london eye, which you can see there. Pre bookings only at the moment and reducing the pod numbers from 25 to eight to maintain safe distancing. People can still walk around the pods and enjoy the view. And tim muffett will be onboard the london eye shortly. Carol, does look at a lovely morning out there, doesnt it . Good morning, everybody, it does indeed. Today the forecast is a mostly dry one. We were the exceptions in a second. We have lighter winds, so it will feel warmer than it did yesterday. The exceptions are we have ran across the Northern Isles, that lives off through the day, showers across north west scotland, again it was not with england and then a clutch of fronts coming in from the west which will produce rain later on as well. So, through the morning, a lot of dry weather, a fair bit of sunshine, showers that we have a starting to peter out. Through the afternoon we see a bit of a change. Showers dying in scotland, a lot of dry weather, more sunshine. Apart from in the north where you will hang onto the cloud. For Northern Ireland after a sunny start the code will build and you will see rain. Some of the longer spells of sunshine will be Northern England today in the car building across wales and the midlands and parts of southern england ahead of the weather front coming southern england ahead of the weatherfront coming in, that southern england ahead of the weather front coming in, that is going to produce rain by the end of the afternoon across western parts of wales and also Northern Ireland. Pictures today, 12 in the north to 23 further south. Through this evening and overnight, our rain advances across Northern Ireland, the rsc, parts of wales, because of the rsc, parts of wales, because of the midlands into Northern England and getting through parts of scotland. At the far north of scotla nd scotland. At the far north of scotland and far south of england will hang onto clear skies. Overnight lows ranging from 8 13 degrees. Tomorrow, whichever way you look at it, we have a couple of fronts. Youre going to get wet if youre in Northern Ireland, parts of north klauzner, Northern England and scotla nd north klauzner, Northern England and scotland parts of north wales and Northern England. That sunshine will come up right behind them, so it will brighten up the many. But with mentioning tomorrow, particularly the further south you are, it will feel more humid and we have temperatures up to 27 degrees. 1a as we push further north across scotland. On friday, we will see a lot of sunshine. We are pulling on a breeze from the near continent, it is bringing in hot hour. We have a weather front out towards the west. That will bring in thicker cloud and rain initially across scotland and Northern Ireland, Holding Temperatures back to you. In western scotland, mcleod and South West Wales and england throughout the day. It could be thundery as well and in fact, anywhere from lincolnshire and a line down to the isle of wight and all points south east of that, are not immune to the odd thunderstorm as temperatures rise. Temperatures could reach 32 33 and 19, 29 in birmingham, and 2a in glasgow. If thatis birmingham, and 2a in glasgow. If that is too hot for you, the weather front coming into the west will cross during the course of the night and then leaving a soul with a largely dry day with variable amounts of cloud, some sunshine and it is going to feel that bit cooler as well with highs of 25. The headlines are next. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Our headlines today. The government resists calls for coronavirus tests at airports to reduce the time travellers spend in quarantine. The culture secretary tells us there are no easy fixes. Its not the Silver Bullet ofjust testing immediately at the border. If you want to change or cancel travel plans but are feeling confused over your rights, you are not the only one. Weve been inundated with questions and ill be answering some. The campaign to offer Free School Meals to more children it was backed by Marcus Rashford on this programme and now it gets endorsement from a major government review. Curry and a pint with the prince what happened when peter crouch and his podcast team went round to the palace for a chat. Ive made some curry for you all. Laughter. And i believe its the samrat, which is, like, your local favourite, crouchy . Peter crouch will be discussing that later. Its wednesday the 29th july. Our top story. Quarantine is here to stay and testing offers no Silver Bullet thats the message from the government on this programme in the last half hour. Culture secretary Oliver Dowdens words came as Heathrow Airport results released in the last few minutes showed passenger numbers were down 96 in the last three months. Our Political Correspondent Jessica Parker is in westminster and can tell us more. Good morning, iam good morning, i am sure you are listening to that interview. He was clear at this point about testing at the borders. Yes, that is despite huge pressure now coming from the Aviation Industry to look at a more nuanced policy, use testing at the border, perhaps to be able to relax this 1a day quarantine rule. I notice that david davis also took to twitter, the senior backbencher, to say he cannot understand why the government is not looking at Something Like this. John holland kaye, the boss of heathrow, is warning of a huge jobs holland kaye, the boss of heathrow, is warning of a hugejobs epidemic if the government cannot get the balance right between protecting Public Health and getting the economy going. He has said that heathrow could have testing at the border up and running within a few weeks and people could be tested eight days later. Fa have tested negative twice they can be let out of quarantine earlier. But as you have said, the government sending hugely cautious about these ideas in this morning you have spoken to the culture secretary, Oliver Dowden. This morning you have spoken to the culture secretary, Oliver Dowdenm relation to testing at airports, the challenge we have is that it is not the case that you can simply test somebody and be sure that they dont have the disease. It can incubate over a period of time, so there is not the Silver Bullet ofjust testing immediately at the border. So, really noncommittal they are from Oliver Dowden, clearly ministers are looking at various ideas. We have had indications about that but that does not look like any change will be eminent. He also asked him about whether he would echo the words of the first minister of scotland Nicola Sturgeon who said she would not be booking a holiday abroad at the moment. Oliver dowden not going as far as that. Similar words he used to downing street and that of borisjohnson words he used to downing street and that of Boris Johnson that people must be aware of the risks going forward. Great uncertainty for people going ahead in terms of booking a holiday and going abroad over the coming months. The government sending very cautious about the idea of a testing regime. The labour party seeing this morning that the testing regime that is up and running is nowhere near ready to do with the possibility of a second spike in coronavirus. But i think at the moment the government really not biting in terms of an imminent move towards testing at airports. Clearly something they are looking at but more broadly what they seem to be saying is that they are not ruling out imposing quarantine measures on other countries in europe if that is deemed necessary. Jessica, thank you for your analysis, thank you. Lets get the latest from spain now. Mairead smyth is in majorca. Morning, mairead. No plans to relax the measures. What has the reaction been there . Yes, no plans to relax, as you have said, and everyone here has been so interested to see if there would be any move back from that 1a day quarantine affecting people on these islands and the Canary Islands as well we have cases and deaths are low. But that is not to happen. We will be subjected to the same two weeks of isolation. I have spoken to people who live there and depend on tourists coming here. Theyjust cannot understand the reasoning. The spanish Prime Minister has said that the decision is unjust and unfair. And where we are staying at this valour, the people who own it and manage it are not sure if the people due to come from the uk at the weekend will arrive. It will be very unlikely, and when you think about it, the millions of passengers that this will affect, thousands of flights were due to come here and to mainland spain from now until late august. Holiday makers are desperate to get away and have a break from the very tough few months. But the decision is that this quarantine will remain. Any idea of testing at airports or relaxation of those days, it thus does not give much hope to the people that depend upon the tourists who come here to spend their time here and money in majorca and beyond. Thank you for that, good to speak to you this morning. German Police Investigating the disappearance of Madeleine Mccann have been searching an allotment in hanover. A convicted paedophile whos believed to have lived in the city for a period is now the prime suspect in the case. Our berlin correspondentjenny hill joins us now from hanover. Good morning to do. What more can you tell us, jenny . Good morning. Last night the police escalated a deep pit on that allotment. We could make out bits of concrete slab suggesting that perhaps they had broken up the foundation of some kind of structure. This morning we can see that they are filling that hole in the. We do not know what it is they are looking for exactly, they will not tell us, but this location could be significant. The main suspect in this case are said to have lived in an area not far from here and this is following the disappearance of Madeleine Mccann. Aa3 year old a convicted paedophile who can only name is christian b for legal reasons. Last month german prosecutors said they had evidence that he was responsible for her disappearance and, they believe, for her death. Crucially, they say that that evidence is not Strong Enough to charge him. We know, i have had a look at the police file on the suspect which bears this out, that investigators for germany have been looking at this man in connection with this case for years. We do not know though why this search is happening now. One month ago german detectives made a televised appeal for information in this case. They have been sifting through hundreds of tip offs from the public ever since. It is possible of course that one of those tip offs has led them here. Jenny hill in hannover, thank you for bringing us up to date on that. The widow of pc andrew harper, who died after being dragged behind a carfor more than a mile in berkshire last august, has written to the Prime Minister asking for a re trial after her husbands killers were aquitted of murder. Mrs harper wrote to borisjohnson, the home secretary priti patel, and the former labour home secretary lord blunkett, urging them, and others to in her words right such a despicable wrong for our country. Marcus rashfords call to extend free Schools Meals to more of britains poorest children has been backed by the governments own review into feeding the nation. The Manchester United player forced a u turn on Summer Holiday meal vouchers earlier this year, now the National Food strategy has gone even further, and said Free School Meals should be extended to another 1. 5 million children in england. The effect of hunger on young bodies is serious and long lasting. It is notjust physical, although it does alter body structure and function irreversibly. There is strong evidence to show that malnutrition in pregnancy and early years is associated with chronic illness in adulthood. But it isntjust health. Hunger at school stops you from concentrating. It increases mental illness, so this is an acute and a long term political issue. It is coming up to eight to 10am. It is coming up to 8 10am. This morning the culture secretary has told this programme that passengers should not be penalised for doing the right thing and following Foreign Office advice not to travel to spain except in essential circumstances. But theres still a lot of confusion for passengers who are due to travel or already in spain. Weve had so many messages from you on this, and nina is here to provide some clarity. It yes, and you can understand it. People will be gutted if they cannot travel or potentially lose some of their income when they come back. Thank you for your questions. Let us begin with those who are are broad and wondering whether they should come home. John is in marbella with his family. We flew out on wednesday, lockdown came on saturday with three hours notice. We do not know whether to change our plans or perhaps in the future though one of these corridors might come in . Yes, it is possible a corridor might be reinstated for spain or spanish regions, but not possible to know when. The good news for you and your family is that you flew before the advise changed and you can enjoy your sangria knowing you are ensured but you will still have to isolate for 1a days when you come home. On saturday, things can change very quickly and if you do have the time and the money to take a chance on remaining on in marbella waiting for a corridor, you could be waiting a while. We also had questions about ryanair, they are still sending flights to spain and its islands despite the guidance changing from the Foreign Office. They told the bbc on monday they are scheduled remain in place and that they continue to operate in and out of spain as normal. Nick got in touch and says he stands to lose his honeymoon money unless he is willing to fork out 180 pounds for changes but he said he managed to change for flights without any charge, that was done by another viewer called john. We heard earlier from done by another viewer called john. We heard earlierfrom Oliver Dowden the culture secretary telling brea kfast the culture secretary telling breakfast that all airlines should show a degree of flexibility and understanding and look at rebooking and offering credit refunds and credit notes for passengers. They should not be penalised for doing the right thing. We put that to ryanair this morning and we await to hear from ryanair this morning and we await to hearfrom them. This is an interesting one, katie got in touch. She looked to go to mainland spain through love holidays. They cancelled the trip but because a flight with cancelled the trip but because a flight with rya nair cancelled the trip but because a flight with ryanair is going ahead she would had to contact them directly. I looked at the options for transferring and they are only going up to the third week of october and the cost of doing that is more than the cost of my original flight. Is more than the cost of my original flight. My question is, what are my rights and can i not at least get a voucher for the same value to use at a later date for another flight . Katie, if you booked all of your trip through love holidays, they should really be offering a refund or transfer regardless of whether ryanair flies or transfer regardless of whether ryanairflies or or transfer regardless of whether rya nair flies or not. Or transfer regardless of whether ryanair flies or not. He contacted love holidays this morning and they are dealing with things on a case by case basis, but we cannot see why you would not be at all protected. Much more complicated as the package deals that are going ahead. Julie got in touch to save paron ahead. Julie got in touch to save par on the beach trip is going ahead. Atol protected. We do not think this has happened before, package deals going ahead and define advice. There is not a precedence. We spoke to experts this morning and they have said that even the legal teams are catching up we do not know what the legal entitlements are in that case. Itjust shows you how dynamic and complicated this is and it isa dynamic and complicated this is and it is a unique situation because of covid and it could change again overnight. Nina, you have to continue with that, there are so many unanswered questions. If the legal teams do not know the answer is, what do we do . We will continue to do our best. It is quite clear sometimes that when you are putting those questions to those companies and toa those questions to those companies and to a responsible, they do not own themselves at the moment. Yes, with some of the package deals, they have said that because for example, ryanairare have said that because for example, ryanair are flying ahead, that negates the claim that the foreign country is a danger, but that goes against fco advise, so there is this grey area in the middle. The Consumer Rights groups are working out the correct procedures. For the moment, nina, thank you so much. Lets get more for the implications on the travel industry. We can speak to. Lets get more on that now from julia lo bue said, the chief executive of the independent travel agents group, advantage travel partnership. How are people coping . We get no advanced notice, consultation and we are desperately, desperately trying to help our customers. We have many fantastic travel agents throughout the country and have worked hard the last format months without any income to help customers and it is incredibly frustrating for us that when we really are unable to help our customers in the way that we would like to. As your report showed all morning, people are frustrated and anxious. People wait so long to go on holiday and make travel plans and to not only not be able to go, but to not understand their rights is incredibly frustrating. Do the travel agents understand the rights at this point . Travel agents understand their rights to a point but the problem being, as we have just heard, this is such an unprecedented matter that, in some cases, it is so complicated, it depends on how the customer has booked, it depends who they have booked, it depends who they have booked through, it depends what they have but, when they book. So many implications that are changeable and depend on your situation. Please give us a sense of when these air bridges open, how where bookings and how are they now . As soon as air bridges came into force, what, if you weeks ago now, we absolutely saw the huge spike in demand this summer. Our sales were up 30 week on week for the summer. There was a real degree of confidence back in the market from customers but since the market from customers but since the weekend that has fallen off of a cliff. Travel agents and the industry is incomplete disarray. We are in such desperate times, and i think the real frustration are in such desperate times, and i think the realfrustration is are in such desperate times, and i think the real frustration is that there is a real lack, we believe, of understanding from the government in terms of how our industry operates, how we Service Customers and the support we need ongoing, because it is four months without any income plus all of the refunds we have had to work through. The industry is at breaking point once again. Thank you very much for your time on brea kfast. Very much for your time on breakfast. Thank you. Thank you. Of course, the changes in rules and Flight Cancellations will have an impact on airports, too. In the last few minutes Heathrow Airport has released its half year results, which show passenger numbers down 96 in the last three months. The chief executivejohn holland kaye joins us now. Ifi if i can talk to you about what the culture secretary Oliver Dowden said about testing at airports. Talking about testing at airports. Talking about having a testing plan at airports. He said testing is not a Silver Bullet. They are discussing things but he does not see that that will go ahead at the moment. What is your response to that this morning . If he is talking about a single test, i would agree with him, based on the medical research today. But a double test, either one at the airport and one several days later. We specifically put that to him about potentially a pilot scheme of having a number of tests and follow up tests to follow that through and he said it was not a Silver Bullet. Well, i think for countries where we are currently having to quarantine people, more work needs to be done on this and we need to test and learn. We are an island nation, we cannot cut ourselves off from the rest of the world for the foreseeable future. We must find a way of keeping people safe in the second wave and getting the economy moving again. I would hope that the culture secretary is thinking about the millions ofjobs in the Tourism Sector that rely on inbound tourists flying through heathrow to visit our lovely hotels and countryside and theatres. That is vital to protecting jobs and the country, and we should be looking for ways to allow people to come to this country but to do it in a way that keeps people say. And what you are saying is that Testing Programme would allow you to reduce the time of quarantine or to get rid of it entirely for those who do not have the virus . It would allow us to reduce the time of quarantine, and thatis reduce the time of quarantine, and that is because you can be tested for the virus but it is a very early stage of the infection and you could not be showing symptoms. Based on the medical advice i have been given, they are therefore must be two tests, the first one at the airport and we have been working with swissport to put that in place and it can be up and running within two weeks. Then the passenger will go into quarantine at their home, they give information to the track and trace system in the uk and then after five, and trace system in the uk and then afterfive, eight and trace system in the uk and then after five, eight days, and trace system in the uk and then afterfive, eight days, whatever time the government is comfortable with, they can have a second test at an nhs facility, and if cleared, they would be allowed out of quarantine earlier than otherwise would have been the case. These are the things we must look at if we are going to save millions ofjobs in this country as well as keeping people safe. Looking back at what Oliver Dowden said on this programme, i put to him those points and he said we cannot rely on the test, the safest thing to do is to quarantine for 1a days. Test, the safest thing to do is to quarantine for 14 days. test, the safest thing to do is to quarantine for 14 days. I am not sure that that is the case actually. If you look at what other countries are doing, they are moving into testing. We will be living with covid for many months to come and we know that a blanket quarantine can work for protecting health, but it has a devastating impact on the economy, and every day we are hearing about thousands ofjobs being lost as a result of covid. If we go on for another year with a blanket quarantine, as a small island is trading nation, millions ofjobs will be lost. We must find a balance in between the two, learning from other countries were brought in this kind of testing so that we can start to get the economy moving again while keeping the country safe. Are you having an ongoing discussion with the government about this and if so, do you feel like you are banging your head against a brick wall, is there a movement . think we are seeing movement and i think we are seeing movement and i think the spain crisis over the weekend has really brought that to the fore, because i think the government has done a good thing by bringing in the approach that if countries have a low level of infection we can have free travel, through the air bridges, but at the moment if you are a red country which cover 70 of our markets, then you would have to go into 1a days of quarantine. What we saw with spain is that by bringing the ten overnight, that is a really tough thing for people to have to go through. They have just flown on holiday, as the transport secretary did, then they have to go into quarantine for 1a days. There must bea quarantine for 1a days. There must be a middle ground that we can find and based on the medical evidence, testing at either five or eight days twice could be the answer. Other countries are doing that to get their economy going and we must do their economy going and we must do the same. We will only done the best way to get the balance between health and the economy by testing and learning, and that is what we will do with the government. Ok, interesting to see how that develops over the coming days and weeks. We mentioned at the start when we introduced you about the results for the First Six Months of the year, the First Six Months of the year, the numbers are quite startling. Painta the numbers are quite startling. Paint a picture, the numbers are quite startling. Painta picture, if the numbers are quite startling. Paint a picture, if you the numbers are quite startling. Painta picture, if you can, the numbers are quite startling. Paint a picture, if you can, this morning, as to how badly you have been hit for our viewers. Effectively, no one has been flying from between march and june, unless they actually had to, and we have had an increased number of cargo only flights. With very much less cargo than we would normally have because the cargo normally carried is in the belly hold of passenger planes flying all over the world and without the passenger flying, planes flying all over the world and without the passengerflying, we have had very little cargo. That cargo is the uks exports and supply chain. Without those flights we are holding back the uk economy. The impact on us as an economy, we have lost £1. 1 billion in the First Six Months of the year. We have good finances, we are well rated on this but we have taken quick action, but it illustrates the devastating impact covid is having on the aviation sector, but also on the wider economy. And until we can get people travelling again in a safe way without having to quarantine for 14 way without having to quarantine for 1a days, millions ofjobs will be lost in this country. And as a chief executive, i want to protect as many of myjobs as i can. Executive, i want to protect as many of my jobs as i can. We were live at Gatwick Airport yesterday and i were reporter said quite a few flights we re reporter said quite a few flights were still leaving and many people we re were still leaving and many people were still leaving and many people were still travelling to spain. What has been the impact from the heathrow perspective regarding spain . People are still travelling and choosing to return and quarantine if that suits them. We have seen people switching their journeys to italy or greece instead, a lot of last minute bookings to those kind of countries. I know we will have a heatwave over the next few days, but the longer Term Forecast is not for fantastic weather, and many peoplejust forecast is not for fantastic weather, and many people just want to get some sun summer sun while they can. I hope that they can do that and be able to stay safe whilst doing that, but more critically, we must find a safe way for people to fly again. It is such an important pa rt fly again. It is such an important part of the uk economy, the lifeblood for our imports, exports and services. Unless we get the aviation sector moving again, we cannot get the uk economy moving again, and millions ofjobs will be lost that could have been saved. Again, and millions ofjobs will be lost that could have been savedm is interesting that many people feel so strongly about this and many different opinions exist as well. People will be thinking why on earth would you book a foreign trip during a Global Pandemic . Other people, as Oliver Dowden himself said, have been desperate. They have been locked up at home, in lockdown for months on end, this was the one opportunity to get away and they are now frustrated that the risk they we re now frustrated that the risk they were willing to take means that if you are going to spain, there must be quarantine at the end of that. It isa be quarantine at the end of that. It is a real conundrum, some will be watching this morning, they will be thinking, what are you doing booking a holiday in a pandemic . People have different attitudes and we want to be able to give them a choice while keeping everyone safe. There are manyjobs keeping everyone safe. There are many jobs that keeping everyone safe. There are manyjobs that rely on aviation that we do not even think about. If you are working in a pub on stratford on avon you rely on tourist coming in. If you are working at the Edinburgh Festival you rely on tourism. Hotels. Manufacturers rely on exports from the uk, all of which, all of the high value goods, all the things that need to traveljust in time, go on passenger planes from heathrow. People will be losing theirjobs right now because we do not have aviation working as it normally does, and until we can get aviation moving again, millions ofjobs will be lost unnecessarily. Thank you very much for speaking to us this morning. Really good to hearfrom you this morning. That wasjohn holland kaye the heathrow chief executive giving us his view on the impact at Heathrow Airport during lockdown. There is a heatwave on the way, Carol Kirkwood will have more on that. Weve already been talking about Marcus Rashford this morning, the Manchester United and england star has been lending a hand at a food charity this week. The 22 year old took to instagram to thank the team at fare share an organisation which redistributes surplus and short dated food to those in need across the uk. He said to everyone that continues to work behind the scenes to make he a difference thank you the world needs more people like you. Ido i do not know if you saw the Football Player awards, Jordan Henderson was the winner of that, Kevin De Bruyne was second and the Marcus Rashford was third. And they are trying to get the footballers to play more of a role in helping in the social issues. What a Beautiful Day it looks like inlondon. The london eye will open shortly and you will be able to go inside the pods. They used to be 25 people inside a pod. Now it is down to eight people. What a glorious day. I believe tim muffett is somewhere they are with the camera. We will speak to him a little bit later. You are watching brea kfast. Little bit later. You are watching breakfast. Still to come, we will be talking to peter crouch. Well be talking to peter crouch about why he was invited for poppadoms and a pint with Prince William. Well be discussing that shortly and bringing you the latest news and weather, but the time now is 8 27am. We had a sneaky peek at the weather in london and carol, you have a beautiful picture, high temperatures on the way. Yes, that is right, good morning. Temperatures into the low 30s for some parts of the uk. The meds to the high 20s for others on friday. But it will be short lived. That is too hot for you, cool at the weekend. What a start to the day, beautiful pictures from our weather watchers. We have had one from bathgate in west lothian. Thank you for sending the men. This other one of cornwall. Sending them in. Lighter winds and warmer than yesterday. The wind is gusting at the moment however any north east of scotland. That will ease during the day, as will the rain. Later we have a clutch of fronts coming in from the west. In between, High Pressure is in charge. So, a lot of dry weather this morning, quite a bit of sunshine for some. Through the day we will see areas of rain. The cloud breaking in the midlands and wales, but not exclusively. Morning showers tending to peter out and by the end of the afternoon the first signs of that when getting into the west wales and Northern Ireland. Temperatures today ranging from 12 in the north to 22 in the south. So, picking up that rain tonight, you can see how it moves across wales into the midlands, the north of england, Northern Ireland and eventually into scotland. Now, for the north of scotland and southern england, we are looking at clearer skies. Temperatures falling to between eight and 13 degrees. Tomorrow, picking up that band of rain, it continues to move out of wales across the north of england and southern scotland. There is a fresh batch crossing Northern Ireland. To the north of that, largely dry. To the south, we start off with a fair bit of sunshine. As that weather front moves northwards, the sunshine will do the same thing. It brightens up across the north of england, Northern Ireland with the south of england and scotland during the day. Feeling humid in the south with highs getting up between 25 and 27, fresher and the north at 13 or 16. On thursday into friday, the rain moves northwards but then we have this weather front coming in from the west. If you look at the outer parts, you can see that it will be breezy in the west. So, temperature wise, friday is the day for the heat, but pulling in this continental, hot air across much of the land. They fly in the ointment is Northern Ireland and eventually the west of scotland and parts of wales, because hell we have the weather front, it is wales, because hell we have the weatherfront, it is bringing in cloud and rain, breezy around it as well stop you could hear the odd rumble of thunder. It will cross Northern Ireland firstly and then into northern parts of scotland and the rest of wales. A humid day with glasgow getting up to 2a degrees. 26 in birmingham and 32 in london. It turns cooler for the weekend. You could see the odd thunderstorm across central and south eastern areas. Hello, this is breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Football, curry and karaoke sounds like a perfect night in for some, but how about at Kensington Palace with Prince William . The duke has taken part in Peter Crouchs latest podcast to talk about Mental Health in football he met the team ahead of lockdown, asjohnny dymond now reports. So, i made some curry for you boys. Others laugh. By royal appointment, the prince has got the poppadoms in. Its not every day you get a takeaway to surroundings like these. Are you serious . Weve had you got the samrat delivered to the palace . Yep. A podcast, pint, and a curry though getting the delivery in did have its challenges. Theres an uber driver on the floor at the moment being frisked. They laugh. This was a very informal Prince William, remembering some big nights out, some really bad presents he had given his wife, and musing on his royal powers to hire and fire the england manager. Gareth southgates a very nice man, hes been very successful as england manager. If england had a disastrous run of form, could you sack him . Gareth would go, yep. They laugh. But this wasnt all lads larking about around the table. For years now, Prince William has been talking about Mental Health. And using sport as a way to get through to men who might not normally think about it. I dont know what it is, but you do notice that guys find it a bit more difficult to relax. We talk about physical fitness, we all want to go to the gyms, stay fit, we never really talk about Mental Fitness and its kind of the same thing. We all have Mental Health. And we all need to stay mentally fit, and none more so than professional athletes, who under special circumstances, are playing for england, under huge pressure. Youve got to have your head razor sharp as well as your feet, your legs, all that. This is Prince Williams goal, to make Mental Health something you can talk about at the match or over a curry. From sunday players to professionals, the prince wants everybody in and southgate looks safe for the moment. Jonny dymond, bbc news. Peter crouch joins us now. That looked really fun. that looked really fun. I cant tell you how surreal that was, going to Kensington Palace and speaking to Prince William, having a pint and a curry was even weirder. How does that come about . Obviously, you both have people, but when you make that phone call, i imagine you expect to be turned down. We were just told that the prince would like to come and speak about his charity and have and speak about his charity and have a chat. We were supposed to have about half an hour, and he stayed for about an hour because hopefully, he was enjoying himself. It was a different side to Prince William that we have seen. Obviously, he has a very serious role of our podcast is not very serious. So we got him into our environment and he was great. I cant speak highly enough of him. And he likes to play football himself, doesnt he . He does, he told us some Great Stories about playing 5 a side, which i cant believe that he manages to do that. He tries to lead as normal a life as possible. We got into some Great Stories. There is one that has made the front page of some of the papers this morning. I will read you the headline and you explain. Guards laser him princes football foul play revealed. What is that about . This is one of my favourite stories. I havent read the papers, so i dont know what they are saying, but it was light hearted and it wasnt genuine. I asked it was light hearted and it wasnt genuine. Iasked him it was light hearted and it wasnt genuine. I asked him about how he must be a target, being the future king of england, in the 5 a side matches, you must be a target for people who want to kick you or take a scalp. And he said there was one particular player that was just tackling him constantly, and fouling him. And he said after the game, he said to his security team, next week, by a laser pen. So he got a laser pen and was putting them all over his chest as if there was a sniper watching from the gallery it was an unbelievable story and it made us laugh. And did he buy the curry . He did. That was a surprise. The samrat is a local curry house that i went to any link. I grew up there. My mum and dad used to go all there. My mum and dad used to go all the time it is in ealing. And to see Prince William talking about my local curry house in ealing is a very surreal moment. He got the curry and the beers and i still dont think my mum and dad will get a free curry from the samrat and rightly so, they need as much help as they can at the moment. Peter, you are laughing now and anybody who knows your podcast will know you have a great sense of humour and there are a lot of laughs in there. But from making the programme we made together with Prince William last year, talking about Mental Health in football and in men in particular, you are opening up about some of the struggles you had had. He was open as well, and there is a serious side to why he wanted to ta ke serious side to why he wanted to take part. And that comes across in the podcast as well. Yeah, its definitely in that lavish environment that i have been in all my life in football the laddie environment. This Prince William has worked hard to get the message out there. It opened my eyes to the fact that it does help to talk, because on that programme, i hadnt talked about things that i did on that programme to even my family. So it opened my eyes quite a bit that if you can get the message out there that its ok to not be ok to ten people, then it has worked. The fact that Prince William is behind it is key to getting the message out. Do you sense that it is reaching people that perhaps havent had this kind of conversation before . Without a doubt. In these times we are in at the moment, i have picked up the phone to myself to my friends. I rarely do that, we just meet. There area rarely do that, we just meet. There are a lot of lads out there who would say the same thing. But because we have been in lockdown, i have picked up the phone to them and asked them how they are. Thats all it is, just a conversation. And i am totally for it. It has helped me, no doubt, to speak to my friends. Sometimes you find out they are not ok and you can help them through that. For those who didnt watch the programme, Royal Team Talk, you were talking about making a debut for england and people laughing at you and yourfamily england and people laughing at you and your family watching that game and your family watching that game and the issues you had with your body image growing up. Has talking about that and the response of others to you being able to open up about that, has that made it easier for you to deal with those things . Definitely. When i was a kid, i looked different to every other footballer on the pitch, no exceptions. I was very tall and very skinny and no other footballer looked like me. I was a figure of fun because of that. And the way i dealt with it what sort of laugh at myself before someone else could laugh at me. That was the way i coped. Now, i have been able to open up coped. Now, i have been able to open up about that more, whereas before, i was completely guarded on the subject. It is the fact that people like Prince William have come out and said its ok to talk about any issues you have and no one is going to laugh at you, and the first time idid it to laugh at you, and the first time i did it was on the Royal Team Talk with you. Its interesting listening to podcasts as well, because there is something about them which makes people more relaxed, including Prince William. Yeah, its a strange thing. We have had some great guest on. We had louis theroux, managers, referees, Andy Robertson just won the premier league title. Everyone who has come on, they do feel at ease and we make it easy. Before lockdown, we were doing it in the pub and you forget that you are recording stuff at times, which can be quite dangerous. You have to remember. But its just good fun, and people feel comfortable and happy to chat about anything, and the prince was no different. We have seen pictures of what looks like a grand dining room. What was it like in the palace . It was different to what i imagined. I had never been there. I have met Prince William before, i have played for england and he has come in the dressing room at various times. But going to the palace, i was surprised at how relaxed it was. It seems to be a home for Prince William. We were in his private quarters and it was an amazing experience. I didnt realise how big it was behind there, ijust imagined it to be one palace, but there are lots of different sections. A real eye opener, and something i will never forget. The fa ct something i will never forget. The fact that we started this podcast is a bit of fun and then we have the future king of england on it beggars belief. I have a niche curry treat for you. What was the cutlery like, had you ever had a curry with silver cutlery before, was it top notch . Since william made a joke at the end because he checked to make sure all the silver was in place before we left tom ford ice, though i am sure you know, he came in a pair of red chinos and he usually ordered a pint of whiskey but because he was in the palace, he ordered a fine whiskey. He didnt stay true to himself. What did you have with your curry is mac ijust had a guinness i usually do when we record. I didnt think they would have it, but it was a lovely pint. As a former liverpool player, i know you spoke to Prince William about this season and the fact that there was a big gap in the middle and they finally managed to finish it. What are your thoughts on the way it finished in the fact that liverpool are the champions for the first time in a long time . As you know, i have close ties to liverpool, so i was desperate for them to win it. I think they would have taken it anywhere they could after 30 years. But when they were lifting it, i did have a tint of sadness because you work so hard to win the premier league and then you are in the kop and there is no one there. You can imagine what anfield would have been like. So i had a bit of sadness for them, but they are that good that they will do it again and have their time with the fans. Did you take anything from the palace . You know what, we made him the royal ambassador but i am not sure he is allowed to be an ambassadorfor our sure he is allowed to be an ambassador for our podcast, so sure he is allowed to be an ambassadorfor our podcast, so i think they took it back. But no, all the silver is in place, i promise. Not even a napkin thank you for talking to us. That peter crouch podcast is available to listen to on 5 live and the bbc sounds app now. Its a really good episode. A number of londons iconic Tourist Attractions are reopening this weekend. Breakfasts tim muffet is at one of them this morning. What an incredible view this is. I am in the top hard right now of the london eye, 135 metres above london iam in london eye, 135 metres above london i am in the top pod and it is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the uk. And when people come up cashless tills. And when people come up here, we are effectively in a sealed bubble. Are you confident that this is a safe environment to be, given the Current Situation . Its absolutely safe. Face masks have become an everyday part of our life. I travelled on the tube with a face mask. It is pleasant and safe. We have been working with industry peers to make sure we have designed a perfect level of health and safety. We have been awarded the charter mark from visit england for being good to go, and we have been working with our hundreds of attractions around the world. We have ta ken lessons attractions around the world. We have taken lessons on board and we are excited to reopen. How hard has this been for the tourist industry . Its been a difficult few months, not only the general uncertainty, but being closed for four months which are our busiest four months. We are expecting to get back to a modest level of visitation in the next few weeks. At this time of year on the southbank, we have been used to seeing thousands of people enjoying the capital city and our attractions. And some of those people will be able to come back on saturday. Thanks for talking us through the changes. These views are simply breathtaking. We have big ben over there, the houses of parliament. Buckingham palace in the distance as well. So we have stunning views from the london eye, which is due to reopen on saturday after many months of being shut. Tim, you and we are very lucky to see that view on such a lovely day. Thank you. Thats what it looks like in london in edinburgh, the festival isnt happening but some attractions are opening. Lets join our correspondent lorna gordon now, who is at one very popular tourist attraction in edinburgh for us this morning. She is on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. Good morning from a very sunny and splendid Royal Yacht Britannia. It reopened to the public this week. About 60 of Tourist Attractions in scotland have now reopened their doors, but its a mixed picture here. Some sectors are doing much better than others. Making the most of the summer weather out on the water at st abbs. Tourism businesses lost half of the Holiday Season because of lockdown. But here, at least, the visitors have been returning. Business has been absolutely fantastic since the end of lockdown. All of our trips are busy, and getting booked up relatively quick. The village has been incredibly busy with tourists. Lots of people have gone up to the headlands for big walks, using the local cafes, heading to the beach. But from the countryside to the cities, some places are not faring so well. In edinburgh, a lone piper now providing the soundtrack in a city Centre Street which, when the festivals are under way, would normally be packed with tourists and performers. Very quiet. Obviously now, you would be expecting the fringe to be kicking in. You would hardly be able to walk up the street. Normal times, you would be walking like this, you know. But it is what it is. You cant complain. From the piper to the pie maker around the corner, the summer, and during the festivals in particular, is when lots of businesses around here make much of their money. But not this year. Well, we normally have about, in august, 1,000 customers a day, average. Were down to about 50 customers a day. 1000 down to 50. Thats not good, is it . Her sentiment shared by others who rely on the conferences, gatherings and events which would usually be taking place in scotlands cities. Yes, i think a very mixed picture, to be honest. The cities have had the biggest hit. Hotels that would normally be full, or 90 plus occupied, are experiencing levels of around 20 , which is a huge difference. Whereas some parts of the rural economy, particularly in the self catering sector, seem to be doing pretty well. As more city based attractions reopen, it is hoped more visitors will be tempted back. And this is. The mirror maze. And some attractions are finding a way through, albeit with reduced numbers and covid safety restrictions in place. It was a huge relief to open after such a long time shut. We had our busiest year ever last year, with a,000 daily visitors. We had our busiest year ever last year, with a00,000 daily visitors. Do you feel confident about the future . Were all living in a different world, with different conditions, and we have to adapt to that. We have adapted here. Our visitors are adapting as well. So yes, i am quietly confident that we will be all right. Some businesses have shut, though, and the hundreds of thousands of people in scotland who rely on tourism for theirjobs are focusing on a recovery theyre hoping might be just over the horizon. Well, with me is tim obrien, one of the tour guides on the Royal Yacht Britannia. We are on the veranda deck now. That is correct. It has a burmese teak deck two inches thick. If you were to join the teak planks together. And what is that behind you . This was used to house a magnetic compass. It was originally made for a ship in 1817. It is made out of a solid piece of mahogany and it has this beautiful, decorative fish. You have been welcoming visitors back on board this week for a couple of days. This was the queensfavourite room. She would often have her breakfast or afternoon tea here. There are various articles in here. The first one i would like to show you is the telephone. This is identical to the other telephones in buckingham palace, so the queen would be very familiar. To the left, there is an admiralty chart. There was always an admiralty chart. There was always an admiralty chart. There was always an admiralty chart of the area we were in so that the royals could look out of the window and know exactly where they were. Some of the furniture like the rat and chairs, 1959, bought by Prince Philip in a place called hong kong rattan chairs. There are so many tales to tell, but this was a very popular area for the royal family. They were family love their privacy here. I am so sorry, i think we have to leave that there. There are so many interesting things to look at, but technologies with Us Technology is not with us. Carol has been telling us about high temperatures in the next few days. One more thing to talk about before we finish at nine oclock this morning. For almost 50 years, bbcs newsround has been an after school staple. I was iwasa i was a big fan ofjohn craven. So was i as children tune in to find out more about the world around them. But the internet, social media and streaming means the way children watch tv is changing. From september, newsrounds teatime broadcast on the tv will stop, and instead therell be a longer morning bulletin and more online news. In a moment, well bejoined by the tv critic scott byran, but first, lets take a look back. Now the latest news on the apollo 17 astronauts and a new kind of school examination. The famine in the african country of ethiopia. Fire chiefs from around the country. It covered all the big stories, but tailored them perfectly for its audience. So while we had anything as difficult as the dunblane shootings to the death of princess diana, it never patronises its audience. Welcome to sundays newsround showbiz. Weve got a jam packed programme for you. You just got a ringside seat to some of the biggest news stories in history. I remember going to Barack Obamas inauguration, but then getting to view that through the eyes of children, which is a fantastic perspective, which is brilliant. Gavin is live there for us with the latest. We communicated really big stories to a young audience. Those audiences, at that point in their lives, are just sponges for information. Good afternoon, im ricky, welcome to newsround. First up, new plans to tackle obesity. The reason why i became a journalist was because of newsround. I used to watchjulie etchingham annd Krishnan Guru Murthy as a kid and i used to be inspired by them. So well continue to be on tv every morning, and we have to move with the times. Theres a lot of nostalgia, but newsround isnt going anywhere, its getting bigger and we have a fantastic team that are providing news throughout the day, on weekends as well. That never used to happen when i was growing up. So it is getting bigger, and hopefully its just keeping in touch with kids in the 215t century. Krishnan guru murthys hair was magnificent i genuinely watched it for many years and many people went into journalism because of it. Were joined now by tv critic and co host of the bbcs what to watch podcast, scott bryan. Did you use to watch it as well . did, and did you use to watch it as well . did, and i got intojournalism because of it, because it was just a fascinating show. For many people, when you say it is going away in the evening broadcast, it is a bit sad, but it is still continuing in the morning. A concern is that when you spend all of your resources on the internet, which is what newsround is going to be focusing on, its not going to be focusing on, its not going to be focusing on, its not going to have that position in our schedules. It might not be at the front of our minds. But it shows that kids ares viewing habits are changing and they are expecting shows on demand now. Newsround is not going anywhere, it is just changing because of the modern media landscape. You could say that is a good decision, rather than putting their resources into something which is not being watched now, they are changing the way they are doing things. Very much so, but the way newsround has been so good is the fa ct newsround has been so good is the fact that it covers a range of issues. You learn about society, the economy and world affairs. You get challenged and stimulated by different topics. In the way we use the internet, we try to go and find a certain topic that we are already interested in, or we arejust a certain topic that we are already interested in, or we are just trying to find one or two things. So i worry that kids are not going to have the range of issues that a normal traditional newsround bulletin in the evening would be providing them stop and its also the fact that you have got so much competition. Newsround has that resonance, but you have so many different websites trying to distract them, you worry whether it is going to have the same prominence as it already has on tv. It is interesting, having teenagers in the house, how they consume television and news in just house, how they consume television and news injust a completely different way, and so fast as well. So fast. My niece, who was at primary school, she was absolutely shocked to learn that when her grandparents were her age, they didnt have netflix. It shows how viewing habits are changing so quickly. Twitter and facebook and youtube are part of their dna now. Youtube are part of their dna now. You touched on netflix there, and louise was talking to me before the programme about how her teenagers Attention Span is very short, yet they pick up lots of information. But there is still a market for that sort of longform journalism and in depth podcasts and documentaries. So its basically just in depth podcasts and documentaries. So its basicallyjust a slight change, but there is still the information out there, just consumed differently. It has always been the case with kids that you should never underestimate them. Many broadcasters thought they had to dumb down their content to get interest. But my philosophy is that if it is well researched and well presented and has a rich subject, you would be surprised at how many viewers you get stuck it always comes down to the content. No matter where it is presented, be it tv, podcast or internet, it has to be good or you will not get an audience. There was and still is Something Special about newsround and the presenters, lots of him touched on it in that piece and how it talks about the news, but from a different perspective. That is important, isnt it . It is really important. If you look at the london eye from lizo mzimba to adam fleming from newscast, you understand as a journalist how to keep your reporting as simplistic as possible, but also as informative as possible. Its a hard nut to crack. With news, you can get bogged down in so much jargon and terms and trying to go through so much description. The traits and skills you learn then follow you for the rest of your journalism career. Great to chat, thank you. We are going to leave you with a view from the london eye. It reopens on saturday. What a Beautiful Day to be there. We will see you tomorrow on breakfast. Bye bye. This is bbc news with the latest headlines. A call for coronavirus tests at airports to reduce the time travellers spend in quarantine. But ministers say theres no catch all solution. Its not the case that you can simply test somebody and be sure that they dont have the disease. It can incubate over a period of time. So, theres not a Silver Bullet of just testing immediately at the border. What do you think . Have you been tested travelling to another country . Do you think airport testing should be introduced in the uk . Please let me know. You can get in touch at.
