In sport, the american Brooks Koepka equalled the Tournaments Lowing lowest winning score to take his first major. And carols got the weather. Today, for many of us, hot and sunny. Temperatures peaking around 33 celsius in the south. In the north, at different story. There is a Weather Front producing thick cloud and some drizzle. I will have more in about 15 minutes. Good morning. First, our main story. One man has been killed and eight people have been taken to three separate hospitals after a van drove into a crowd of pedestrians near to a mosque in north london. Theresa may has said police are treating the incident near Finsbury Park as a potential Terrorist Attack and Counter Terrorism police are investigating. The Prime Minister has also confirmed she will be chairing a meeting of the cabinets Emergency Cobra Committee later this morning. Officers have cordoned off a large area close to Finsbury Park mosque. Many of the victims are believed to havejust left Evening Prayers, after breaking the ramadan fast. This is what we know so far. The London Ambulance service deployed sixty medics to the scene including ambulance crews, advance paramedics and specialist responders, as well as an advance trauma team from londons air ambulance. The Metropolitan Police say the driver of the van a 48 year old man has been arrested. Our reporter, greg dawson has more. The Seven Sisters road just after mel midnight. This footage was recorded moments after a van mounted the pavement and struck several pedestrians. The streets have been filled with worshippers who just left Evening Prayers at the Finsbury Park mosque and the nearby Muslim Welfare house. He looked straight, he looked straight like it was towards muslims. Basically the target. He basically drove on the pavement, coming straight towards all the muslims, and as he was coming to them, he hit all of them. Within hours, the Muslim Council of britain claimed the van was intentionally driven at worshippers. Police say the driver, a 48 year old man, was found by members of the public and handed over to officers to be arrested. He has since been taken to hospital as a precaution. I was coming from the shops. And i saw a large crowd of people on the pavement. I learned after that a van that was standing up by the Traffic Lights was the van that mowed the people down. Several ambulances were on the scene soon afterwards with trauma teams treating the injured. Eight people were taken to hospital. In the early hours of the morning, Downing Street issued a statement from theresa may, saying her thoughts are with all of those injured. The labour leaderJeremy Corbyn, who is also a local mp, said he was totally shocked and had been in touch with mosques in the area as well as Islington Council. This morning, the scene remained sealed off as Counter Terrorism officers, for the third time in as many months, investigated a vehicle being driven into people on London Streets with deadly consequences. This is the scene above the scene now. A large Police Cordon. We will be able to speak to some eyewitnesses and some who were inside the mosque. One man we will hopefully be speaking to later on with a man holding down the man who was taken by police. We understand the van driver was held down by people at the scene, some who are in hospital. They had to wait several minutes for the police to arrive. We will be speaking to londons mayor sadiq khan as well. Brea kfasts Graham Satchell is in Finsbury Park for us this morning. Graham, whats the scene like there at the moment . We are at the Police Cordon on Seven Sisters road. This part of london is near arsenals park. There is a terrible sense of deja vu this morning. Somebody has driven a vehicle, it looks deliberately, into a group of pedestrians. A big difference this time is that what we know is that this was a white man driving a white man who targeted a group of muslim worshippers van. Think they were at the Muslim Welfare house and the Finsbury Park mosque. I have with me and man who was at the scene. Can you tell us what happened 7 was at the scene. Can you tell us what happened . Basically, we came out of the press. It was a calm, Peaceful Environment and people were running around screaming and there was chaos because people had been iuii was chaos because people had been run over by a white man. He was dragged out of his car and pinned down and people were screaming to find the police. The two other attackers had got away. So there we re attackers had got away. So there were three people in the van . Leigh a lot of people confirmed this. Two of the attackers got away. A lot of the attackers got away. A lot of people confirmed this. The police took an hour to come. I do know why they took an owl. There was a six minute Response Time. Both of the attackers were shot by police. The ambulance Response Time was within five when it. Today, it was 45 minutes. I want to know why. As muslims, we dont all save. I have brothers, mothers and sisters. We go out, we make sure we are vigilant and safe. As muslims, growing up in the uk, we dont feel safe practising our religion. Why is it like that . The question was asked in the media, what can be done and what can be done by the government for us to feel safe and the truth is nothing. If a to feel safe and the truth is nothing. Ifa man to feel safe and the truth is nothing. If a man wants to go and commita nothing. If a man wants to go and commit a violent offence, he can do it and nothing can be doing about it. Nothing at all. This man was at the scene overnight, confirming what we have seen from a number of eyewitnesses. People who were standing around who detained the driver of this vehicle who we now believe to be a 48 year old man who has taken to hospital. He will be questioned once released a hospital and taken into custody. Its interesting how the story developed overnight. Rees describes this as a Major Incident and they are now saying the Counterterrorism Branch of police who are investigating this. Theresa may have described it asa this. Theresa may have described it as a potential Terrorist Attack and it seems, from everything we are hearing on the ground, that that is exactly what this is. Back to you. If you are just turning on your television. Just to remind you, as graham was saying, as suspected Terrorist Attack which has taken place in Finsbury Park overnight. One man has died and eight people have been injured. The Prime Minister says police are treating this incident as a potential Terrorist Attack. The Metropolitan Police are describing it as a Major Incident and 14080 wild man has been arrested. And one 48 year old man has been arrested. Sadiq khan is talking about an attack on common values. Like the other attacks in england, it is also an assault on oui england, it is also an assault on our shared values of tolerance, read and respect. He has also mentioned they would be extra police to reassure communities and making a point there will be especially those observing ramadan. We will speak to the london mayor later here on bbc brea kfast. The london mayor later here on bbc breakfast. This response from Jeremy Corbyn this morning as well. I am totally shocked at the incident in Finsbury Park this morning. I have beenin Finsbury Park this morning. First of all, here we go again. Enough is enough. We have suffered enough. Human life is sacred. Whatever its background. We must all Come Together And Reject violence and hatred. I want to call out some of the commentators and Media Personalities perpetuating hatred towards islam and muslims, they are allowing an environment to exist where these people carry out these attacks. This morning, we have heard it is an assault on all shared values of tolerance and freedom and self respect. That is something to remember at this time. Yes. Ramadan isa remember at this time. Yes. Ramadan is a month of rare and coming together as a community. Prayer. We saw a last week with the Grenfell Tower event last week. People coming together to help. We have to reject violence absolutely from whichever section of society we find it. The Prime Minister has called this a potential Terrorist Attack. We have a statement from Jeremy Corbyn as well. What response do you want from authorities . The response we have seen already from the Prime Minister is very good. A global meeting is ongoing. People are concerned in mosques across the country. In the end, you cannot stop and protect, you know, a mosque, a community, with this. Thank you. You will be here later. Thank you for the moment. As always, we will catch up the moment. As always, we will catch up with the weather. It has been really warm. The details. It certainly has. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far. Today, what were looking at is a start. 20 degrees already in london. Yesterday, we reached 32. 1 degrees celsius in the london area. Today, we could hit 33. High temperatures generally, except in the north of scotla nd generally, except in the north of scotland where we have a Weather Front producing more cloud, patchy light rain, and also, as a result, temperatures are a bit lower. This morning we have a Combination Stretching from the Outer Hebrides towards the western isles. Towards the south, heavy rain first thing. Behind this, a bit of cloud, bright spells in edinburgh, up to 20 degrees. This afternoon in Southern Scotland, Northern England, and Northern Ireland, heavy and sharp showers which could be thundery. Dry weather to start the day in england and wales. Sunshine from the word go. Temperatures rapidly rising. One 01 go. Temperatures rapidly rising. One or two showers in eastern and central england. Fairly well isolated, but if you catch one, the potential to be thundery. Most will mist them. South west england, 29. London, 33. Wales, 32 degrees. Northern ireland, the risk of showers. Many staying dry. The temperatures are a little bit lower. Through the evening and overnight, we lose the risk of showers. Especially thundery winds. More cloud in the east of england. Are lots of dry weather around as well. Another sultry night in prospect for many parts of england and wales. Fresh conditions across scotland and Northern Ireland and eventually Northern England as a Weather Front goes south producing cloud. Somewhere like hull tomorrow could be 10 degrees lower than today. Today we could see perhaps 29 30 31. Tomorrow could be 10 degrees lower. The heat will transfer towards the south west. Bristol could have a high of 31. Temperature wise, moving northwards, behind the Weather Front, we start to see fresh conditions coming in. As we move from tuesday into wednesday, we hang on to the heat, especially in the south of the country. A fair bit of sunshine around as well. Weather fronts coming in across the north that are going to introduce some rain. In terms of the temperature, it is unusual to see such high temperatures into the 30s on the charts, not just in temperatures into the 30s on the charts, notjust in london, but other parts in the country. Thank you. We will see you in half an hour. Thank you for being with us. The top story. The attack close to Finsbury Park mosque. We can hear from two people close to it when it happened. I saw people on the floor, right and left. It was literally chaos. As he hit the curb, one ran out and police can click came quick. Thank god. He was on the run and they caught him. But a lot of people got hurt. It looked basically like it was towards muslims. He basically drove on the pavement. As he was coming to them, he hit all of them, andi he was coming to them, he hit all of them, and i think one of them died. Straightaway. One of them died straightaway. The rest are in bad condition. How many people do you see on the floor . 78. That were seriously injured . Seriously injured. As the police came, they moved all of us quickly. They kept it under control. I asked the police if there was a man going free and they were not telling us. We were like is this a Terrorist Attack was white what did you see . The doors we re white what did you see . The doors were open. I came from behind and said what is going on . Then i am on my phone. We thought it was a normal accident. Then we saw all the people on the floor. That is a Terrorist Attack. Khalid was at the scene. Many different Eyewitness Reports coming in. He described the moment pedestrians were hit. The van literally turned left with no indication. And then itjust hit the people. One of them was under the van. People gathered around the van to lift it up and get the guy out. The dying jumped on it and two literally ran. Not a lot of people we re literally ran. Not a lot of people were coming out, but as soon as it happened, people were shouting and gathered around. Two ran, one arrested. The people surrounded him and apprehended him. He was shouting, i want to kill all muslims. Literally like that. Word for word. This is a Terrorist Attack whether he a muslim, whether he is not, it is. I dont want to see tomorrow that he has mental issues. This is categorised as a terrorist, christian or muslim. No religion belongs to terrorism. Terrorism has no religion. Anyone who hurts or harms or kills people, this is terrorism. That was an eyewitness. Just to remind you, i know many people arejoining us just to remind you, i know many people are joining us for the first time this morning, we are talking about an incident taking place outside a mosque in Finsbury Park. A van was driven into a group of people as they were leaving the mosque. One man has died and eight have been injured. The Prime Minister has called it a potential Terrorist Attack. We have had a quote from sadiq khan. We will speak to the mayor a little bit later. He says we do not yet know the complete details but this was clearly an attack on innocent londoners. He says while this seems to be an attack on a particular community, like the terrible attacks in manchester, westminster, and london bridge, it is also an assault on all of our shared values of tolerance, freedom, and respect. He goes on to say that the situation is still unfolding and he all londoners to remain calm and vigilant. Urges all. A 48 year old man has been arrested in relation to the incident. There was one guy on the right side leading. He was on his barely. Bleeding. Belly. They grabbed big quy bleeding. Belly. They grabbed big guy who was trying to run away. The guy. He chose a time when people come out of the mosque. That is when they are finished and are going home. He chose that time. The mayor of london, sadiq khan, says it is an attack on all of our shared values. He called for londoners to stay calm. This is the scene. You can see the police vans behind me. This morning, the scene remained sealed off as Counter Terrorism officers, for the third time in as many months, investigate a vehicle being driven into people on London Streets with deadly consequences. Greg dawson, bbc news. Brea kfasts Graham Satchell is in Finsbury Park for us this morning. Graham, whats the scene like there at the moment . Is not entirely clear what happened. This story has developed quite a lot overnight. Initially, police described it as a Major Incident. I think now it has become clearer that once again we are standing at a Police Cordoned at an attack on innocent civilians. Interesting, it is the Counterterrorism Branch of police who are investigating this and the Prime Minister theresa may also describing it as a potential Terror Attack. There is no doubt among people on the grounds that thatis among people on the grounds that that is exactly what this is. They are describing it as an act of terrorism. The ground that that is exactly what this is. They are describing it as an act of terrorism. I am seeing that the white van has come and is crashing into people. People are on the floor, the people that they are trying to help. The people that are on the floor, it is pandemonium. People screaming, crying. Did it seem like deliberate attacks . 10096. No doubt this is an attack on the Muslim Community. The individual was there waiting and he ploughed down there waiting and he ploughed down the muslims. After he did his attack, the Police Arrested him and he was gloating. He was laughing and the Police Arrested him and im just thinking, like, what kind of individual is that. There has been an increase in islamaphobia in recent weeks and months. Is that what it feels like to you at the moment . 10096. I would not disagree with that comment. In fact, there was actually another assault upon muslims in the mosque, an acid attack not too far from here. For me,| attack not too far from here. For me, i dont disagree with that comment. Extreme islamaphobia has risen and it impacting the Muslim Community in a major way. Thank you very much indeed. Just to bring you up very much indeed. Just to bring you up to date, we know now that one man has died here at the scene. Eight people have been injured taken to three separate hospitals and a 48 year old white man who was driving a white van has been taken to hospital and they say once he is discharge from hospital he will be taken into discharge from hospital he will be Ta Ken Into Custody Discharge from hospital he will be taken into custody and then questioned. We know you will be back throughout the morning. We havejust woken to police in the last few minutes because there has been questions about police Response Time. The police said they responded to the attack within ten minutes. There have also been questions. Eyewitnesses talking about perhaps there being more than one person in this van but police are saying at this van but police are saying at this point they are not looking at other people who were in the van at this point. They responded to the attack on worshippers within ten minutes. The police say that within this early stage, no other suspects at the scene have been identified or reported to police but they also say the Investigation Continues. Abdirahim saeed works for our colleagues at the Bbc World Service and arrived on the scene shortly after it happened. We can speak to him now. Good morning to you. And she for coming in this morning. Can you describe where you were and what happened . Well, i was driving from Central London into north london, the area where the incident happened. If a few stops away from where i live. I assumed i arrived with the second wave of police vans and ambulances arriving. As i was coming down the Seven Sisters road, i saw coming down the Seven Sisters road, isawa coming down the Seven Sisters road, i saw a huge number of police vans with sirens. I arrived a few seconds later, looked to my left into what was another street and i saw a huge number of people that had arrived and it was a second wave of Ambulance Services arriving. We saw Ambulance Services arriving. We saw a few Police Officers. There was no blocking off yet so i could get close. Two bodies i saw on the ground lying still. I couldnt tell whether they were still alive or dead. People i spoke to who were there, they told me there was at least six other bodies i couldnt see. Was there a van bear . There may have been a group of people outside the mosque. Was there a van there . The van was driven into a gioup there . The van was driven into a group of people . Ace poacher eyewitnesses and ask what did they exactly see. One turned around and pointed a white van and neither bodies and they said a man was there. They described him as a white man who had driven the car at the eyewitnesses said it was a deliberate attack. The location of the mosque was not exactly, it was another one a few seconds away. There is a cafe fare. People were milling around. There is a cafe and samak. People were in the middle of their brand. People were gathered. A man said there was a white van. There is a bit of confusion. Some said they ran away. Pity he what was saying earlier that Police Issued an did you hear what we said earlier that the police are not looking for anybody else at the moment . I will also ask you about another eyewitness saying the man has been arrested, the 48 year old man, was held by people at the scene until Police Arrived. You see any of that . I didnt see any of that. I arrived after that when people told me they saw what happened is about the apprehended by the locals. He was held to the ground and handed to the police and they described what they saw as him smiling and raising his hand in triumph. It will who were there told me they have no doubt that this was to let brett attack on muslims. Deliberate. They thought people were congregating outside the mosque but it was the local cafe which is a few seconds away. Thank you for bringing us what you saw. We cant entirely tidy things up saw. We cant entirely tidy things up but there are a number of reports saying there was a number of suspects at the scene. From what we hear from police, no suspects at the scene. From what we hearfrom police, no other suspects from the scene have been a dentist right. They have arrested one 40 eight year old man. No other suspects from the scene. One person has died, eight injured and eyewitnesses are talking about police Response Time. We have spoken to police and they responded to calls within ten minutes. Also confirming they are not looking for any other suspects is seen. As we have the Prime Minister will be chairing a meeting on cobra this morning. It is with grim frequency that the Prime Minister will be attending an Emergency Briefing after an overnight tragedy. I have spoken to Downing Street in the last couple of minutes confirming the Prime Minister is can describing this as a potential Terrorist Attack and she will chairan potential Terrorist Attack and she will chair an Emergency Meeting later this morning. Her thoughts are with the victims, their families and Emergency Services at the scene. Overnight tonight, we have also heard from Jeremy Corbyn, The Labour Leader. Notjust The Labour Leader in this incident but also their local mp of islington in the area. He is totally shocked and has been in touch with the mosques in the area. His thoughts with those in the community affected by this awful event. A much longer post from the mayor of london sadiq khan on face within the last hour, saying the Metropolitan Police are responding to what he describes as a horrific Terrorist Attack on innocent people at Finsbury Park. He adds that while this is an attack on a particular Community Like the attacks on manchester, westminster and london bridge, it is also an assault on our share of values, tolerance, freedom and respect. Saying that once you dont know the full details, this was clearly a deliberate attack on innocent londoners many of whom were finishing press during the holy month of ramadan. We understand from sadiq khan that the Metropolitan Police will be deploying more police to reassure communities. The mood was already sombrejuju grenfell communities. The mood was already sombre juju Grenfell Tower last week. Due to. Sombre juju Grenfell Tower last week. Due to. A sombre mood in the capital. A stretch in time for the capital. A stretch in time for the Metropolitan Police given what we have seen with the Terrorist Attacks in the past two months. We know about that from what we are told from the Intelligence Agencies, the scale of the challenges they are facing up to. There are huge deployments from the police, fire, and Ambulance Services. Especially after last week with the burning tower. And now Finsbury Park this morning. There is a desire in the police, frequently seen this, they wa nt to police, frequently seen this, they want to increase visibility on the street in order to reassure people. That comes as a hugely logistical problem for the Metropolitan Police, though. Thank you. We will speak to you later. We will bring you up to date is done that incident in Finsbury Park through breakfast this morning. Just a reminder. Finsbury park through breakfast this morning. Justa reminder. One Finsbury Park through breakfast this morning. Just a reminder. One man has died and eight have been injured after a van ploughed into people outside of a mosque in north london. One 48 year old man has been arrested. It appears that the incident happened and people involved in the incident managed to get hold of the driver and essentially hold onto him until Police Arrived. Police arrived on the scene after receiving 999 calls within ten minutes. This man, a man, was arrested at the scene where this happened. Many victims had left Evening Prayers, breaking their ramadan fast early on. There has been a call for increased security around mosques. Sadiq khan said this morning the Metropolitan Police have already deployed extra police to these areas. We will speak to eyewitnesses and the london mayor later, keeping you up to date with all of the latest. I am afraid it is another morning where we bring you terrible news. But we also have the weather. Good morning. If you are stepping out and have allergies with grass and pollen, the levels are high across the uk today. The exception is in the far north of scotland. Another hot and sunny day for most of us as well. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far. The temperature in Greater London was 32. 1 celsius. Yesterday, we had high values over many parts of the uk. The exception being the far north of scotland where we had and still do have a Weather Front producing more cloud, some spots of rain, and as a result, it has held back the temperature. That is the scenario this morning. We still have a Weather Front in the north and western isles. Producing rain. It will weaken through the date copy a lot of dry and a lot of sunny weather. Through the day. England and wales, hovering around 25 degrees. Fresher in scotland. Sharp showers in Southern Scotland and Northern England. If you catch one, it could be thundery. Many of us will mist them. Sharp showers in central part of england. Temperatures warmer than the south east today, 33 degrees. That will be the warmest day of the year if it happens. 22 in wales. High uv levels. Northern ireland, you could see the odd shower this afternoon. Many of us will not get them. Temperature is not as high either. Through the evening, we tend to lose the risk of thunder. Through the night, we get more cloud from the north sea coming up for eastern counties. Dry weather around the night. A muggy one in cardiff. 21 degrees. Fresh in Northern England, scotland, and Northern Ireland, as the Weather Front goes out. Tomorrow, Cloud Associated with the Weather Front again coming in off the north sea. Somewhere like hull or around the wash generally, 10 degrees lower than today. 31 around these areas today. Tomorrow, 20 21. A high risk of showers in the south west tomorrow. There could be thundery as well. A lot of dry weather across the far north of scotland. As we head into tuesday evening, we lose those showers. Wednesday itself, rain coming in from the west. Once again, the heat sta rts from the west. Once again, the heat starts to build, and will warm up. Thank you for that. Plenty more weather coming up later on. It really has been a hot weekend. Mostly really has been a hot weekend. M ostly o n really has been a hot weekend. Mostly on the programme this morning we are covering the news overnight that one person has been killed and eight it will injured after a van appears to have driven deliberately in the worshippers at Finsbury Park. I will read you a statement from the police who said they were on the scene police who said they were on the scene within ten minutes of 999 calls, at 20 past midnight last night. They had reports of a Van Colliding with pedestrians. They found and tended to a number of casualties. One man was announced dead at the scene. They are informing next of kin. Eight injured we re informing next of kin. Eight injured were taken to three separate hospitals. Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. From what we know so far, a van mounted the pavement and struck a number of people just after midnight in Finsbury Park. A 48 year old man has been arrested. We have heard a statement from sadiq khan, who we will speak to later. And also theresa may, she has said they are treating it as a potential Terror Attack. There will be a meeting of the Cobra Committee, which seems like a regular occurrence now. We have heard this confirmed by eyewitnesses, this man arrested was found and detained by members of the public at the seams to be one of those was abdul, who says he pins down the attacker until Police Arrived. Pinned. It happened at 1220. There was an old man on the corner. We were trying to give him cpr. We came outside the mosque. And, umm, wejust heard a cpr. We came outside the mosque. And, umm, we just heard a van turning into us. He ran over some people. Luckily, i managed to get away. A lot were injured. You managed to get away, but we are told you detained one of the men. When he came out of his van, he wanted to run away. He kept saying i want to kill muslims. He run away. He kept saying i want to kill muslims. He came run away. He kept saying i want to kill muslims. He came back where he drove over us and i hit him in the stomach and he fell down on the floor. Me and the other guys held him on the ground until he couldnt move until the police came. They took 20 minutes to half an hour. It was a long time. That is absolutely extraordinary. Just describe this man for us. What did he look like . And repeat what he was shouting when you and repeat what he was shouting when you were and repeat what he was shouting when you were detaining him. He was saying. He was saying. When we put him on the ground, i emotionally asked him why he did that. You know . You could kill so many people i did not know how many were killed. I said why did you do that . Why did you do that you are killing so many people for no reason this man, you know, he was, umm, he had an englishman, he looked like a builder, he was a big man. He was in his 50s, i think. Very strong. We couldnt hold him that much, he was very strong. Luckily, there were other people coming up from the mosque who came to help us. How did you alert the police that you had this man . Presumably, the police did not know. People passed by. People came from the mosque and saw the crowd all over the place. We told them call the ambulance, call the police. 50, thats when the police came. They did not come until they had backup. That is when they handcuffed him and put him in the van. That is one of so many eyewitnesses we have heard from this morning. We will keep you up to date through the programme this morning. That is the main story this morning. Also, brexit negotiations begin today. We will cover this later on. We will speak to michael gove from the Conservative Party and Barry Gardiner from the Conservative Party and Barry Gardinerfrom the the Conservative Party and Barry Gardiner from the labour party. What does it mean for business . We are out and about at a market in manchester. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. It has been busy this morning. Many people coming to collect different produce for shops and restaurants in the local area. It is busy. I am talking to business is about what they want to hear from negotiations and what they will do. I have a negotiation consultant. How should we approach these . We need to be aware of the complexity of the negotiations. There are years and yea rs negotiations. There are years and years and years of negotiations ahead. This goes beyond the two year period that keeps being spoken about. Team discipline is going to be important, making sure everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. What we are actually seeing is multiple demands. We have to get eve ryo ne multiple demands. We have to get everyone on the same side. That will bea everyone on the same side. That will be a challenge. We will talk about this later on. Stay with us. We will be here through the morning. First, the news, travel, and weather, wherever you are this morning. Good morning. Im asad ahmad. So, one man has died of his injuries in Finsbury Park after its believed a van drove into worshippers as they left special prayers which are conducted during the holy month of ramadan. The London Ambulance service says eight people have been taken to three different hospitals. It happened a short distance from the main entrance to Finsbury Park mosque, outside the Muslim Welfare house following tarwee prayers which ended just after midnight. This van ran over all of them. There was a guy bleeding on his belly. There were another two guys and a lady on the floor. We grabbed him as he was trying to run away. He chose a time when all of the people came out of the mosque, when everyone is going home. He chose that time. That is why there is too many casualties. The mayor of london, sadiq khan has said the attack is an assault on all our shared values, and there are calls from Muslim Leaders for londoner to stay calm. Our reporter, barry caffery, is there. This is the scene. You can see police vans behind me. Just behind Thoseis Police Vans behind me. Just behind those is Finsbury Park tube station, com pletely those is Finsbury Park tube station, completely cordoned off. Police were called to this incident 20 minutes after midnight. In sport, the american Brooks Koepka wins the us open. He equalled the tournaments lowest winning score of 16 under par to claim his first major. Englands Tommy Fleetwood finished fourth. And carols got the weather. It has been warm. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far. Todayit warmest day of the year so far. Today it could be even hotter. For most, dry, sunny and hot that in the north west, there is a Weather Front so north west, there is a Weather Front so here it is cooler with some rain. Good morning. First, our main story. One man has been killed and eight people have been taken to three separate hospitals after a van drove into a crowd of pedestrians near a mosque in north london. Police first received calls at around twenty past midnight of reports that a vehicle had collided with pedestrians. Emergency services treated a number of casualties at the scene. The Seven Sisters road in North Londonjust after midnight. This footage filmed by an eyewitness was recorded moments after a van mounted the pavement and struck several pedestrians. In the early hours of the morning, Downing Street issued a statement from theresa may, saying her thoughts were with all of those injured. The labour leaderJeremy Corbyn, who is also a local mp, said he was totally shocked and had been in touch with mosques in the area as well as Islington Council. What more can you tell us this morning . It is a grim and tragically familiar scene, unfortunately. We are once again sitting in front of the Police Cordoned. Once again, a vehicle has been driven into a group of Innocent Bystanders. The big difference this time, the driver was a white man in a white vehicle who appear to be targeting muslim worshippers. I think a Significant Development overnight is that the police are saying it is the Counterterrorism Branch that are investigating this. The originally described it as a Major Incident. There is a strong feeling on the grounds that this was an attack, a Terrorist Attack, plain and simple, bya Terrorist Attack, plain and simple, by a white man. We are speaking with hussein ali who has been here all night. What happened last night . |j saw night. What happened last night . saw that bang on the main gate and then we looked around and there was a van gogh in around and people shouting. Van going around. I ran out to go to the other way. Did it appeared to you to be a deliberate attack . To me, its obvious. The mosque was full, one oclock, midnight prayer. The main target was, and intimate it was no accident. Some people are saying the man was smiling and shaking his hand like he was proud. I didnt see that pa rt like he was proud. I didnt see that part but. The Muslim Council of britain this morning are saying there has been an increase in islamaphobia. That the police need to do more to protect Muslim Community. Do you feel that safe on the street . No. Three days ago, i was in the other mosque, praying. I saw nearly 100 people praying and i was thinking, like, all of these media, london bridge, the islamic terroristic thermic terrorist. This man chose this place in this area and particularly this area, a mosque with a radical abu hamza. It has com pletely with a radical abu hamza. It has completely changed now. Any form or shape, doesnt matter what religion they are, they are a person. Some People Choose to commit a crime and they choose to commit crime in here, i blamed the media. Thats why i feel unsafe. Thank you so much for talking to us. Hussein ali has been up talking to us. Hussein ali has been up all night. We do now know that this 48 you are a man was basically detained by people here on the scene before the Police Arrived and he is now in hospital and will be questioned by the police once he is released and ta ken questioned by the police once he is released and taken into Police Custody. Just those remarkable accounts from the eyewitnesses. We spoke to abdul rahman early this morning and he was there early this morning and helped detained a man. Hes the only man who has so far been into custody. We have been getting reaction in since news of the attack broke in the early hours of the morning. The Prime Minister theresa may described the event as a terrible incident. She said all my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones, and the Emergency Services on the scene. The leader of the opposition and the local mp to the incidentJeremy Corbyn tweeted that he was totally shocked. He added ive been in touch with the mosques, police and Islington Council regarding the incident. My thoughts are with those and the community affected by this awful event. Harun khan, the secretary general of the Muslim Council of britain, described the incident as a Terror Attack. During the night, ordinary british citizens were set upon while they were going about their lives, completing their night worship. My prayers are with the victims and their families. It appears from eye witness accounts that the perpetrator was motivated by islamophobia. Our Political Correspondent chris mason is in westminster for us this morning. An Emergency Meeting being held later this morning . Good morning to you. I was struck watching gradients report a few minutes ago when he mentioned the grim frequency in which he has found himself standing at Police Cordoned. The equivalent is the frequency of these cobra meetings. We seem to be referring to them almost every week. It is the governments Emergency Committee that has got together where they need to be a co ordinated response to a Major Incident. There was a statement from the Prime Minister in the middle of the night saying she will chair this Emergency Meeting later this morning, adding that all of her thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Emergency Services on the scene. You are talking about the Statesman Siu received from various leaders. Particularly striking workers from sadiq khan, the mayor of london, describing this as astro horrific Terrorist Attack on the people of Finsbury Park. Thank you. We are hoping to speak with michael gove in about half an hour as well. Obviously, brexit negotiations begin in brussels as well. Returning to our main story and the attack that happened outside Finsbury Park mosque this morning. There are conflicting reports about the number of people involved. Police are saying there is only one person who has been arrested and has been taken to hospital. We are hearing extraordinary Eyewitness Reports about what happened after that the vehicle hit pedestrians. Many of the people standing by what hold of the suspect and detained him until Police Arrived. We are speaking now with general would daniel sta nford. It took the matter of hours and less than that for the Counterterrorism Command of the Metropolitan Police to ta ke command of the Metropolitan Police to take this investigation on and it has been treated as this point as if the driver of this wide band deliberately drove straight into a group of people who were leaving the Fast Breaking at the end of the day as part of the celebrations of ramadan. It appears to have been a higher vehicle hire van. He drove into an elderly man who was building unwell. There is some confusion this morning. There were two mosques very close to where im standing. The Finsbury Park mosque, once infamous that now a fairly standard mosque. And Muslim Welfare house about 30 metres behind me. It looks as if there was people leaving wilson Welfare House that were particularly caught up in the incident. Muslim. People breaking the farce we re muslim. People breaking the farce were all around this area. It is a very, very busy of north london even when ramadan isnt being marked but during ramadan at this part of the night, it would have been very, very busy. And in many people are turning on and taking their kids to school this morning and maybe turning on their television for the first time this morning. Bringing you up to date, there was an attack last night and there was an attack last night and the Prime Minister theresa may is saying it was a suspected Terrorist Attack. As a major police incident. One man, we believe, a 48 year old who has been arrested and now treated in hospital. We have had so many statements this morning and we are covering this in depth as much as we can. A statement has been released saying please stay calm as the investigation establishes all the fa cts. Investigation establishes all the facts. Pray for those affected and forjustice. One facts. Pray for those affected and for justice. One person facts. Pray for those affected and forjustice. One person has died and eight have been taken to three separate hospitals. We will take you back to that story later. Also today, the first brexit negotiations are due to start today when david davis meets Michel Barnier in russell is later today brussels. A huge day of negotiations. The start of a long process. What i both sides trying to achieve . Are. David davis is laying on the charm pretty thick, saying Last Night He Wa Nts to pretty thick, saying last night he wants to form a deep and special relationship with the eu, one like no other in history. He is not out all guns blazing. The eu, represented by rachelle bayern munich, given Negotiating Instructions from the rest of the eu, he says they want to make sure uk and eu nationals have respective rights. Michel barnier. They also wa nt to rights. Michel barnier. They also want to discuss The Cost Of Living and what happens to the border of ireland. As you said, this isjust the start. A long way to go before the start. A long way to go before the uk officially leaves in march, 2019. We will speak to Barry Gardinerand 2019. We will speak to Barry Gardiner and michael gove later on about that, but also about the main story today, the potential Terrorist Attack in Finsbury Park. Yes. We know this happened close to a mosque in north london. We have heard many eyewitnesses at the attack. This man described the incident. The van literally turned left with no indication. And then itjust hit the people. One of them was under the van. People gathered around the van to lift it up and get the guy out. The dying jumped on it and two literally ran. We will pick up on some of those thoughts with a Security Specialist joining us live on the scene in Finsbury Park. We have heard from eyewitnesses. So many people talking to us this morning. It appears that the worshippers were deliberately attacked. Certainly, again, always in the immediate aftermath of these kinds of things, information comes from various sources and we have to sift through it. With the information i have been receiving from the locals, this was a well planned and co ordinated attack. There are reports of potentially three people in the vehicle. They targeted a time when outside of the Muslim Community house, people would be coming out from prayers. From my first assessment, this is clearly a Terrorist Attack. We know that police are already involved in the negotiation. What are the priorities at this point . Really importantly. And this is beyond the levels of investigation, because certainly the Metropolitan Police and Counter Terrorism group will be working at this to rule out candidates, possibly from the far right groups, at the moment, it is important to reassure communities here, as we will be hearing from local reports, this is being dealt with as seriously as any other Terrorist Attack would be dealt with. It is important the government ta kes a with. It is important the government takes a stance on that. This kind of attack plays directly into the terrorist agenda. Talk to us a little bit about how you stop these attacks, as their difficult to prevent seeing that cars are always on the streets. As they are. Absolutely. It is incredibly difficult. That is why Islamic State and other similar groups are going to replicate this kind of attack. Ultimately, getting your hands on a vehicle and driving on streets is something we all do and is virtually impossible to do without various adjustments to the architecture of streets in cities. It will be a Co Nsta Nt Streets in cities. It will be a constant challenge. But ultimately, in many of these incidences, there seems to be some reconnaissance and advanced planning. Efforts need to be made to stop that. That is not just in security measures, but bear in mind, here in london, we have more cctv than anywhere else in the world. We need to try to engage with the Antiterrorism Hotline and report anything that could be in the lead up to an attack. Anything that could be in the leadup to an attack. Thank you very much. We have heard so much. Sadiq khan said the Metropolitan Police are responding to this horrific Terror Attack on Finsbury Park. We will hopefully speak to the mayor of london later on bbc breakfast. One has died and eight are being treated across three different hospitals. A 48 year old man has been arrested and is in hospital himself this morning. He drove a fan into people outside a mosque in Finsbury Park this morning. Van. You will understand we have to push things around this morning due to the breaking news. And now for the weather. Good morning. Another hot and sunny day for most of the uk. Most, because in the north west, we have a Weather Front producing rain. Some will be heavy. But as we go south, it will change to fizzle. The chance of a sharp shower in Southern Scotland, Northern England, and Northern Ireland. You will see one or two showers pop in Eastern England and around the midlands. Again, it will be just an exception. As we go south, highs of 33 degrees in parts of the south east. Through this evening and overnight, we will lose the showers. Dry weather around. We will bring in more cloud from the north sea. It will be another sultry night. Sticky. 21 in cardiff being the overnight low. More fresh further north. Through tomorrow, dry weather. The Weather Front will come south and things will freshen up behind it. Hull could be 10 degrees lower than today. We could see a high of dirty one in the south west with a risk of showers later in the day. 31. Thank you. If you have been watching us, you will know that the programme is dominated i what happened in Finsbury Park. We will keep you up to date on that. In other news, we start discussions to leave the eu today with david davis talking to Michel Barnier in brussels. I want to get your response to what we have been speaking about this morning, the terrible attack in Finsbury Park. Yes, look, ithink this Terrorist Attack is absolutely vile. And what it does is it actually will be welcomed by those who are the extremists perpetrating other Terrorist Attacks. This would appear to have been a Revenge Attack from what eyewitnesses are saying. And, of course, that is precisely the objective of terrorism. They wa nt to the objective of terrorism. They want to divide us and ring hatred between different elements of our community. And it is so important we do not let them do that. We must stand united against all forms of hatred and all forms of terrorism. am sure you can understand what we have been hearing from eyewitnesses concerned and worried, fearing for the rain safety, especially those muslims who feel deliberately targeted by this. Their own. Exactly. Eyewitness accounts have suggested this would appear to have been an islamophobic attack. It was clearly directed against worshippers at the mosque. And if that is in fa ct at the mosque. And if that is in fact the case, then those from Islamic State and daesh will be cheering, because they do not care about the lives of the people that they mow down. They mow down indiscriminately, whether they are muslim, christian, jew, or hindu. They just want to destroy the way of life we have in this country, which is about tolerance, openness, engaging with each other in respect. That is what they want to destroy. And thus by this sort of Revenge Attack, as it would appear, this is exactly what terrorism wants to do, start further terrorism. We must not let it. It is horrible to talk to you about this on a day when it is the start of brexit talks. Understandably, what has happened in Finsbury Park is the first thing we have to talk about. Can i ask you about two different Points Of View coming from iran party in the last 24 hours . The Shadow Home Secretary yesterday, i will read you comment from him and John Mcdonnell as well. He supports leaving the Single Market and ending free movement, but Wa Nts To Market and ending free movement, but wants to leave the custom union on the table. And John Mcdonnell said yesterday i dont care how we get it as long as we get access to the Single Market para free. Tariff. There is obviously a difference in the labour party. What is happening . The first thing i want to say is todayis the first thing i want to say is today is an important day for the uk and europe as a whole. I wish both david davis and Michel Barnier well in these negotiations to be we want a positive outcome for both sides. Negotiations. We want to do this positively. That is the first thing. With regards to the points you made, both of my colleagues are saying the same thing, it is outcomes that matter. It is the tariff free access to the Single Market, making sure we have no increased burdens, tariff burdens or non Tariff Barriers to trade that is absolutely essential. That is what the government needs to negotiate. That is what my party needs to negotiate and what it would if it was in power. We need to talk about the structures and say it has to be this and it has to be that, thatis to be this and it has to be that, that is secondary. The point is it has to be the best deal forjobs in the economy that we can possibly get. And that in a different way was exactly what both of my colleagues we re exactly what both of my colleagues were saying. Thank you very much for your time this morning. I appreciate your time this morning. I appreciate your time this morning. I appreciate your time on that and talking about Finsbury Park as well this morning, where one person has died and eight have been injured. And now for the news, travel, and weather, wherever you are watching this morning. Good morning. Im asad ahmad. So, one man has died of his injuries in Finsbury Park after its believed a van drove into worshippers as they left special prayers which are conducted during the holy month of ramadan. Theresa may has said police are treating the incident near Finsbury Park as a potential Terrorist Attack and Counter Terrorism police are investigating. The Prime Minister has also confirmed she will be chairing a meeting of the cabinets Emergency Cobra Committee later this morning. Brea kfasts Graham Satchell is in Finsbury Park for us this morning. Graham, whats the scene like there at the moment . The resistance of depressing deja vu. We are once again standing at a Police Cordon. We are near the arsenal Football Ground on Seven Sisters road and next to two mosques. The Finsbury Park mosque and the Muslim Welfare house. Police initially described it as a Major Incident but as the night went on, very quickly i think in these circumstances, the police are now saying it is Counterterrorism Officers that are investigating. Theresa may is saying it a potential Terrorist Attack. No doubt amongst the people here who witnessed it, they think it was deliberate and targeted. The big difference this time, of course, compared to the other times when a man has driven a vehicle into people is that this was a white man and the victims were muslim worshippers who had just come out other mosque. But have a quick chat with hashem. He is from tunisia, in which is not his best language. What did you see . tunisia, in which is not his best language. What did you see . I see the person with the car and many people. One person, ithink he the person with the car and many people. One person, i think he died and people with blood. When he stopped the car, one person from algeria, he catch him out from the carand other algeria, he catch him out from the car and other guys, one muslim guys, would them down and he told everyone not anyone beat him. Just waiting for the police. So he drove deliberately to this group of people. Did he aimed directly . Direct yes. Will you scared . Leigh yes, i was scared. First time i see like that. Blood. One person i see die,| like that. Blood. One person i see die, i neversee like that. Blood. One person i see die, i never see like that. I want ambulance, something, iask die, i never see like that. I want ambulance, something, i ask people move back. Think if talking to us. One of the many people who witnessed this terrible incident. We do now know that one person has died, aged people are injured and in three separate hospitals across north london. The man who has been arrested by police is currently in hospital but police say they will start questioning him once he is released and in Police Custody. That is green satchel he was outside the mosque in Finsbury Park this morning where the attack took place graeme satchell. Adil rana was at the mosque when the attack took place earlier this morning. As wilson is, we do feel safe walking the streets. I have brothers, mothers. As muslims. When we go out, we stay vigilant, stay safe. As muslims, growing up in the uk, we dont feel safe to sing our religion and why is it like that . The question that is always asked in the medium, what can be done by the government for us to feel safe and the truth is that nothing. Practising our religion. Nothing can be done about it, nothing at all. We also talked to omar who was at the mosque breaking his fast. we also talked to omar who was at the mosque breaking his fast. I came at sunset time to break my fast. I am praying. After that, iam just seeing the white band that is coming and crashing into people, people are on the floor, the people that there are trying to help and it is pandemonium. People screaming, people crying. Did it seem like a deliberate attack . Irra100 people crying. Did it seem like a deliberate attack . Irra 100 that this was a deliberate attack on the Muslim Community. 100 . The individual came in and ploughed into muslims. We can hear now from two people who were close by when it happened. Ijust i just saw people ijust saw people on the i just saw people on the floor, people running left and right, it was chaos at literally, literally chaos. As he hit the people, one of them ran out and police came quick and thank god for the police, they can quick. A lot of people got hurt. It looked straight lachie was towards muslims. Like he was going towards muslims. He drove straight up the pavement and towards muslims. He hit all of them and they think one of them died. One of them died straightaway. And then the rest are ina died straightaway. And then the rest are in a bad condition. How many people did you see lying injured in the ground. Seven or eight. Seriously injured. As the police came, ithink seriously injured. As the police came, i think they got it under control. A man was let loose defender telling us. We dont know if we are safe. We are seeing cars going about, i do know who it could be. Is this a terrorist . I literally saw the van, the doors were open. I heard the bang from inside. Literally, a came behind him. Next minute, the phone and making a snap a video, formed. Boom. We can speak now to cabinet member michael gove. What is your Response Given what has happened . Im absolutely horrified it is disgusting. I really feel for those who have been caught up in it and they want to seem a decent sympathies to those who have been affected and those families who will be grieving as a result of this. The whole point is, these people who we re whole point is, these people who were at a place of worship and it should be absolutely sacrosanct. Everything about it looks like a Terrorist Act and am glad that the Prime Minister is getting all the Top Security Team together at her cobra meeting this morning to see exactly what we can do in order to provide reassurance and support to people who are grieving and who have lost, as a result of this unspeakable act of evil. Will be at will there be more Police Protection for worshippers . Given that we need adequate protection particularly for people who are at a special time, celebrating their faith. I think we need adequate protection. People have the right to lead their lives in peace. We have heard from the council of britain this morning saying people in the Muslim Committee would have seen this coming. What you say to that . We need to get all the facts that are absolutely sympathise to those that are affected by this and i think one of the things about britain is that we ensure that individuals were going about their daily lives, whether they are worshipping, breaking their fast for celebrating their faith, should worshipping, breaking their fast for celebrating theirfaith, should have the absolute guarantee and knowledge that theyre secure and safe in britain and valued in britain. London already, we are all very aware, was in a sombre mood, particularly what happened at g re nfell tower. Particularly what happened at Grenfell Tower. Dew think the government response was tardy . Do you think. Bello the Prime Minister has said the response all of overall was not good enough the Prime Minister. I spent yesterday by the side of the fire site. I was also speaking to a teacher who had been directly affected. Some of the children who he cares for a missing at the moment. Those of us in government are understandably determined to make sure we act more effectively into speaking personally, i am distraught about what happened. I used to live very, very what happened. I used to live very, very near what happened. I used to live very, very near to their and it is an area i know well and my heart goes out to those affected are the most important thing now is that we do everything we can as a government to make sure people are supported through this very difficult period. Why were recommendations not acted upon and will that change . why were recommendations not acted upon and will that change . I think we need to look exactly at that point you rates. Recommendations have been made in the past about how we can make people safer. It appears as though the recommendations did not have the effect they should have done. We have got to ask why and to learn from that. The reasonably more determined than me to get to the bottom of this because it is absolutely horrific and unforgivable situation to have in the heart of our capital in situation to have in the heart of ourcapital ina situation to have in the heart of our capital in a 21st century. Facing the terrible disaster and its aftermath. Right now, people are living in similar blocks so how soon can beat things be changed . Change cant come soon enough. How soon cant come soon enough. How soon can things be changed . The Prime Minister is setting up a team of the very, best people to lecture we can provide Support Notjust by the families affected in kensington but also people in housing across the country with the reassurance that is definite. To make sure. Country with the reassurance that is definite. To make sure. Do you think the Prime Minister in this rate the public mood . Allan i think questions about mood at this i think questions about mood are. Commentators can make judgements about this kind of thing. I think the most important thing for me to do as the most important thing for me to doasa the most important thing for me to do as a politician is to play my pa rt do as a politician is to play my part in making sure that change comes and that we safeguard and protect people in vulnerable circumstances. Important negotiations begin today with regard to brexit. You think the governments that is weakened by what happened in the general election . The general election is not what i or any conservative would have wa nted not what i or any conservative would have wanted that during the course of the election, conservatives and labour argued that we should leave the european union. We should they longer be subjected to what is called the Single Market, effectively, thejurisdiction called the Single Market, effectively, the jurisdiction of the European Court of justice. Effectively, the jurisdiction of the European Court ofjustice. And that we should take back control of our laws, our borders and indeed take control of the opportunity to forge new trade deals. Even though the conservatives dont have a majority, the majority of the people in the House Of Commons were elected on the basis of making a success of britain leaving the eu. You talk about commentators. Commentators in the Daily Telegraph and the times today say theresa mays position is still at risk. Would you throw your hat into the ring . Elena added is at risk all. I dont think it is at risk all. I dont think it is at risk at all. The point is, david davis is going to brussels today, making sure that the outcome of british people voted forjust under a year ago is delivered and there is a year ago is delivered and there is a series of golden opportunities for us outside the eu. We can take back control of our Fishing Orders and lecture we have sea of opportunity out there so we can revive an industry that has suffered during the time we have been in the european union. We can have better Environmental Protection and also make sure our farmers are better supported than before. We can have new trade deals with countries across the world which enabled the ingenuity and creativity of the british people to operate in a far broader canvas. Also, we can have politicians that are more directly accountable to all of us as a result of making sure that decisions which are intimately involved in the lives of all of us are taken here by people who are elected by us rather than distant politicians who we didnt choose and cant kick out. Do you have Leadership Ambitions . Note, is the short answer. More importantly, i need to make sure we can makea importantly, i need to make sure we can make a success of britain leaving the eu. The important thing, i think, instead of looking at the Commentator Froth that you alluded to earlier, lets have a serious, to conversation about what is available to us being outside the eu. Michael gove speaking about brexit, his party, and the suspected Terror Attack outside Finsbury Park mosque around midnight last night. Eight have been treated at three different hospitals, one has died, and a 48 year old man has been arrested after driving his van into these people outside of their mosque around midnight after they were praying overnight having broken their fast for ramadan. We believe that the van was driven into people outside the Muslim Welfare house. They released a statement saying all of our prayers go to those injured and passed. The Muslim Community is shocked. They have said they have worked hard for decades to build a peaceful and tolerant community and they condemn any act of hate to divide the unified community. They appealfor calm divide the unified community. They appeal for calm and say it is not helpful to speculate. They say they have met with the council and local mp, labour leaderJeremy Corbyn, and thank them for their support. The programme is donated by that this morning, but we are trying to keep up to date with various things. Dominated. And that includes the weather. It is glorious. That is correct. It has been high temperatures for many of us this morning already. It is 23 already in heathrow. Bristol, not far behind. Belfast, 15. For many of us today, sunny and warm, hot, depending on where you are. The other thing is the pollen level. It is high across the pollen level. It is high across the uk except in the north. That is where we have the Weather Front and rain. It is also between ten and 12. A fresh start for you. The extent of the sunshine you can see. The temperature will rise rapidly through the morning, reaching the high 20s into the low 30s for some of us. South west england, certainly into the high 20s today. 29 here. A lot of sunshine. It will always be fresher on the coastline. In the south east, 33. Some showers might develop in central and eastern areas. Hit and develop in central and eastern areas. Hitand miss. If develop in central and eastern areas. Hit and miss. If you see them in Southern Scotland, there could be heavy. The same for Northern Ireland. Many will not have them all together. There will be dry weather around. It will be that bit more fresh. Wales once again. Highs of up to 29. Through the evening and overnight, the risk of showers tends to fade. A lot of dry weather around. It will be another sticky night, especially so across england and wales. Cardiff, for example, not dropping lower than 20. Scotland, Northern Ireland, a weatherfront coming south. Fresh conditions following on behind. Tomorrow, this is the Weather Front. A week feature producing cloud in parts of eastern and central england. Weak. Not as hot tomorrow. Hull, 10 degrees down on the day. The wash as well. 20 21. The highest temperature is still in the south, especially the south west of the you can see in these areas, south wales, thundery showers. If you catch one, it will be heavy. Wednesday, rain in the north of the country. The heat will build from the south once more. Hull, tuesday, dropping in temperature, picking up again on wednesday. Will allow scott, for the first part of the week right until ladies day, quite hot and still dry and sunny. Royal ascot. Thank you. We will see you in half an hour. It is one of those mornings i am afraid were giving you sad news. A Band Hit A Cloud of pedestrians near midnight last night killing one person and injuring eight others. Van hita person and injuring eight others. Van hit a crowd. We arejoined by the ramadan organisation. It appears people were deliberately targeted in the attack. What is your response . Obviously shocking. Once again we are here. Innocent lives have been lost on our streets. We have to say enough is enough. It doesnt matter if it is Islamic State, far right extremism, human life is sacred. We have to reflect on our language, how we debate issues, we all have to come together. It is one year since jo cox. It brings it home to you that behind every political event, people are involved. I have not slept. Sorry. We appreciate that. It has been a long night and continues into a long morning for you as well. Cani into a long morning for you as well. Can i read you something from the Chief Executive of the Muslim Council . He says people in the community will have seen this happening. What does he mean . There is rampant islamophobia. Look at the commentators, you know who they are, i will not name them, they do not reflect on the language they use. As isaid, reflect on the language they use. As i said, there is a comedy awry say, there is an increase in these events near mosques. there is an increase in these events near mosques. Dare i say. Many in the Muslim Committee have been banging their heads against walls to ministers saying take this seriously. I hope the Prime Minister recognises that. There is feeling there this morning, as well as in london over the past few weeks. What would you say to them . Stay together and dont let terrorism divide us. Whatever your background is, whatever your faith, we are whatever your background is, whatever yourfaith, we are british people. Our values of tolerance and respect are stronger than them. You mentioned the murder ofjo cox. Her husband, brendan cox, has been, as you said, he released a statement on social media this morning. He said when islamic Terrorists Attack us, we seek out hate speech that keeps them going. We must do the same today for far right extremism. Yes. We have to call out these hate preachers. To show you my timeline, the amount of hatred i have received in the last 12 hours is shocking. But that is common for people in places like i hold. And now, our correspondent has been speaking to amber rudd about this. She was asked if the attacker was known. Amber rudd, the home secretary, said we do not know this at this stage. That is the latest we have from the home secretary, amber rudd, this morning, from our correspondent, chris mason. That story is dominating the programme. We will keep you up to date. But also the day, brexit negotiations begin. Today. What does it mean good morning. Good morning. Iam does it mean good morning. Good morning. I am in manchester, does it mean good morning. Good morning. Iam in manchester, at does it mean good morning. Good morning. I am in manchester, at the markets. They are finishing up this morning. Dots of people have been buying produce. This is a wholesale market. Lots. They have been buying stocks and supplies for restau ra nts a nd buying stocks and supplies for restaurants and shops. I have been speaking to businesses about what they want to hear from brexit negotiations and what they will involve. We have natalie, who helps people negotiate, including companies all over the world. What is the key . Managing complexity. That is a huge issue. We had years of negotiations to come. Many issues to be negotiated. We have to be flexible and manage this. Two years will not be enough. We have to be flexible on the timeline. What are the key things you are saying to people when you advise them . Being prepared, planning effectively, understanding all of the issues, and recognising it is not always the really big issues that will swing whether a deal gets done, it is often the more small issues that no one thinks about that will hold things up. We will see this happen over the months and years to come with things we did not anticipate being as big as they are. It will ta ke being as big as they are. It will take longer than we think . The divorce proceedings, the brexit proceedings, it is meant to be two years but i think it will be longer. The trade deals after that as well. All of this is creating uncertainty. We have talked about this before. Businesses worry about uncertainty. What else are the worrying about . What else are the worrying about . What they are looking at is uncertainty and stability and clarity. That is difficult in an environment like this. Governments can help by stressing the importance of the economy during the heart of the brexit negotiations. The messages we have gotten from the government is highly political. It is not clear that the economic and business means are at the forefront. This could take ages. It could. The government could help spelling out the kinds of things it is looking for in this. They have been clear since the Prime Minister talked about this. Getting outside of the eu, the Single Market, at about this. Getting outside of the eu, the Single Market, et cetera. We have to talk about the roots of how we get where we are today. It is about getting the benefits of the deal. Thank you for your time this morning. That is it for me for now to be the news, travel, and weather, wherever you are this morning. Now. A statement has come out of the muslim house condemning hatred dividing commentaries. We have been in Finsbury Park. Communities. This is the scene. You can see police vans behind me. Just behind those is Finsbury Park tube station, completely cordoned off. Police were called to this incident 20 minutes after midnight. We know that one man is dead and eight others are being treated in hospital. Good morning. First, our main story. One man has been killed and eight people have been taken to three separate hospitals after a van drove into a crowd of pedestrians near a mosque in north london. Theresa may has said police are treating the incident near Finsbury Park as a potential Terrorist Attack and Counter Terrorism police are investigating. The Prime Minister has also confirmed she will be chairing a meeting of the cabinets Emergency Cobra Committee later this morning. Police first received calls at around twenty past midnight of reports that a vehicle had collided with pedestrians on Seven Sisters road. Many of the victims are believed to havejust left Evening Prayers, after breaking the ramadan fast. The Metropolitan Police say the driver of the van a 48 year old man has been arrested. Our reporter, greg dawson has more. The Seven Sisters road in North Londonjust after midnight. This footage filmed by an eyewitness was recorded moments after a van mounted the pavement and struck several pedestrians. The streets had been filled with worshippers who just left Evening Prayers at the Finsbury Park mosque and the nearby Muslim Welfare house. I learned after that a van that was standing by the Traffic Lights was the van that mowed the people down. Several ambulances were on the scene soon afterwards with trauma teams treating the injured. Eight people were taken to hospital. Theresa may says police are treating this as a potential Terrorist Attack. The local mp and labour leaderJeremy Corbyn said hed been in touch with Islington Council and local mosques in the area. This morning the scene remained sealed off as Counterterrorism Officers for the third time in as many months to investigate a vehicle driven into people on London Streets with deadly consequences. Craig dawson, bbc news. Brea kfasts Graham Satchell is in Finsbury Park for us this morning. A very hefty Police Presence there this morning. You can see police vans obscuring the view, we are close to arsenal Football Ground, something terribly familiar at about this, another vehicle driven into a group of Innocent Bystanders on a pavement, this time the key difference, it was a fight this time the key difference, it was afight man this time the key difference, it was a fight man driving a white van who targeted muslim worshippers who had just been to a mosque. To give you a quick idea, there are two mosques here, muslim well for house, one most people were standing outside and Finsbury Park mosque. Lets talk to all mahut has been here all night, tell me what you saw. Obviously i had been in the locality praying and breaking my fast in the mosque, i ate a praying and breaking my fast in the mosque, late a little bit more afterwards, i came out, i went to the shop, when i came back i have seen the shop, when i came back i have seen pandemonium break out, people calling me and asking me your defence we parked and lam calling me and asking me your defence we parked and i am telling them, ive seen come off lots of cold. The assailant being held, you understand, by people, the local community. I have seen people screaming, crying, total anarchy. And i saw police grab the individual and arrest him as well. From what you could tell, did this look to use like a deliberate, targeted attack . Theres no doubt in my mind this was definitely targeted towards the Muslim Community that live here. There are two mosques here, we are in the last ten days of ramadan, the mosques will be more overloaded than they usually arent because the mosque becomes packed during the la st mosque becomes packed during the last ten days of the night, you understand, when that is happening, this individual, he sees muslims, innocent, pride, law abiding citizens and he has targeted them, you understand . What citizens and he has targeted them, you understand . What its done to the community, its absolutely destroyed the community, devastated, the community is deeply saddened. Destroyed the community, devastated, the community is deeply saddenedm more, thank you so much. You have been up all night and witnessed terrible things. The police are saying that this man is now in hospital. Omar. He will be questioned once he is released from hospital and i am just going to be joined, actually, by abdul. Good morning. I understand you were involved in wrestling this man out of his vehicle, can you tell me more . The man came from his van to run away and two more. Idont know, bad to the people, and people we re know, bad to the people, and people were coming over behind him to get him down to the ground. He came past my side, i tackled him down to the ground. With the help of other people, so we managed to. You got him on the ground . What was he saying . He was saying when he was running, i saying . He was saying when he was running, lam going to kill more people. Then he was on the ground i asked him, why did you do that, why . Innocent people. And he goes, i want to kill muslims. I want to kill muslims. And kill me. And i said why did you do that . A terrifying incident to be involved in. It is. I thought, i was just. Incident to be involved in. It is. I thought, iwasjust. In my imagination. I wasjust, thought, iwasjust. In my imagination. Iwasjust, like, people on the floor. Do you think this was a deliberate attack, did you feel you are being targeted . 100 . The way he was driving on the corner, when we were on the floor with the old man who was trying, trying to get him cpr. We should explain, you had come out of the mosque. We came next, where it happened, coffee, me and my friends we re happened, coffee, me and my friends were meeting, we saw this man on the floor, we said lets go and see him. It was completely separate, an elderly man had collapsed and you we re an elderly man had collapsed and you were helping him . We were helping him, there was a little crowd of people. Some people were saying, maybe he thought there was a mosque, he saw the crowd. Thats why he turned on the corner of it. I dont know how i managed to escape. Turned on the corner of it. I dont know howl managed to escape. Can i ask you one more question, weve heard various reports there were three people in the van . heard various reports there were three people in the van . I could only see one person come out from the van. He was a big man. Very strong, big man, very strong. Thats why there were other people trying to get him hold. When i tackled him, we put him on the ground until the police came and thank god, when the police came and thank god, when the police came and thank god, when the police came, there was still some emotion, with the guys over him, they were sad, there was a man trying to give cpr, he already was on the ground and the van, thatjust made it worse. Can i ask you this question, do you feel safe on the streets . Question, do you feel safe on the streets . I dont know, im not sure to be honest with you. If we all come together, we can be safe. Abdul, thank you very much for talking to us. Incredibly brave man. To reiterate, the police do now have this man in custody and once he is released from hospital, they said they will question him. The home secretary amber rudd is describing this as a Terrorist Attack. Back to you. What a horrible attack, abdul talking there about how you he and a group of people tackled this man. He is now in custody, he is being treated in hospital, police will question him shortly. He wasnt alone, incredibly brave stories we are hearing from people who were there last night. Graham satchel mentioned amber rudd, a short time ago she gave her reaction. U nfortu nately we have ago she gave her reaction. Unfortunately we have again woken up to another terrible incident in london for a man has taken hold of a van and driven it into a group of innocent people instance we park. There is one fatality that we know about and a number of casualties, and the police are treating it as a terrorist incident. We know police we terrorist incident. We know police we know terrorist incident. We know police we know police were on hand immediately and are treating it as a suspected terrorist event and that isa suspected terrorist event and that is a normal procedure, we will see whether they confirmed that later this morning. It was treated immediately as a suspected Terrorist Attack, we must allow the police to deal with the facts and they will make sure they make those facts available as soon as they can. Our priority must be to support the people who have even the victims of this and to make sure the investigation is done with all due speed and professionalism. We are concerned about everybody, you know, londoners have been hit with a series of attacks and have been nothing short of heroic. We will a lwa ys nothing short of heroic. We will always make sure that everybody is protected, we have a places of worship fund of which we announced last summer which is there to protect places of worship like mosques and we will make sure we do all we can to reduce these sort of attacks. The Prime Minister wiltshire cobra later today, we will allow police and the Counterterrorism Police involved to make sure the Investigation Continues and we will continue to keep people aware of what progress has been made. When we speak to Emergency Services during this series of attacks we always ask them for Additional Support they need. Actually they have generally confirmed to us, i spoke to a number of them over the weekend recently, that they do have sufficient resources that they do have sufficient resources because that they do have sufficient resources because theres a of mutual aid of works, people supporting each other, that went to help people in manchester, that helps people in london and its working but we will always keep it under review to ensure that Emergency Services have all the support they need so that they can support they need so that they can support they need so that they can support the communities affected. That was the home secretary amber rudd, we may interrupt whatever we are doing in the next few is, we expect a from new Scotland Yard, bear that in expect a from new Scotland Yard, bearthat in mind expect a from new Scotland Yard, bear that in mind if you are watching us. Lets get the latest from our Political Correspondent, chris mason, whos in westminster. We are getting used to this, u nfortu nately, we are getting used to this, unfortunately, the government involved in a cobra committing committee meeting. The Prime Minister chairing that in the coming hours, she released a statement in the middle of the night saying there would be a Cobra Committee meeting this morning, what tends to happen is that such meetings involve senior ministers at a government level, senior officials and civil servants, often the police and Intelligence Agencies are represented as well. We expect that to happen this morning. Some further reaction to bring you in the last couple of minutes from The Labour LeaderJeremy Corbyn but also crucially, the local mp in Finsbury Park, saying he was shocked by this horrific and cruel attack in Finsbury Park which is being treated as an act of terror. He offered his condolences to the family and friends of the man who died and those who have been injured, he says as the local mp is met with Muslim Community leaders at the muslin well for house alongside the leader of this into an counsel richard watts, the council Chief Executive and the Metropolitan Police, he adds mr watts , Metropolitan Police, he adds mr watts, the Council Leader and mr corbyn will attend prayers at things we park mosque later today. We are watching pictures while we talk to you, in fact we are expecting a statement from new Scotland Yard from police there in the next few minutes. We have heard there are calls for extra police and the mayor of london, city can say the met had deployed extra police to reassure communities especially those observing ramadan. Clearly the police are under a huge amount of pressure a cross police are under a huge amount of pressure across the uk but articulate in london, with the recent Terror Attacks and the tower block fire last week. The mayor of london sadiq khan provide an extensive statement on facebook over night saying he had spoken to the Metropolitan Police as you would expect, extra police being deployed to reassure communities especially those observing ramadan and you heard in that interview with the home secretary, questions about police resources, she says they tell her they have adequate money, adequate resources, adequate manpower to deal with the challenges they face at the moment because of this system of mutual aid, forces will lend people to other forces when a particular force will lend people to other forces when a particularforce in will lend people to other forces when a particular force in a particular area is facing a particular area is facing a particular pressure. But you can imagine the extent to which that will become a pressing political issue in the next few weeks, you have seen a differentJeremy Corbyn is in his response to the tower block fire, resources to the urgency services, given the they are under, will lead to a rise. Chris mason, thank you. We may speak to you later. We are awaiting a Police Statement from outside new Scotland Yard. We will return to the scene of that horrific incident which took place last night outside Finsbury Park. If youre just last night outside Finsbury Park. If yourejust turning on last night outside Finsbury Park. If youre just turning on your television for the first timement one person has died and eight people are being treated in three different hospitals after a 48 year old man who is in Police Custody has driven a van into a group of muslim worshippers who were outside a mosque around about the seven stars area in Finsbury Park. There is one mosque on one side of the road and another on the other side of the road and it was outside one of those that there was a group of worshippers who had broken their fast for ramadan and who had come out from players and that van was driven into them, killing one and injuring eight. Lets speak to our home affairs correspondent, Daniel Sanford who is in Finsbury Park for us this morning. There is a massive Counter Terrorism operation now in place down there. There is. You cant really see because of the vans in the way, but on the road just behind us, there are forensic officers already starting their work trying to pick up starting their work trying to pick up any bits of evidence that have been left behind by this white van as it made itsjourney been left behind by this white van as it made its Journey Towards killing this man and injuring eight others. Just a little bit on the geography. It seems as if the incident took place on a street called wadcoat street. Its a dead end street, but its an area where during ramadan the people who spill out of both the mosques that you we re out of both the mosques that you were talking about here tend to gather. Its a small dead end street. People set out portable chairs there and sit and eat together and chat together. There is a cafe nearby and what happened is that this white van made its way up in the bus lane, an area not normally used by normal traffic and then took a sharp left into this dead end street, ploughing into a group of people waiting between the first prayers of the night and the second prayers of the night and the man who was apparently driving that van was grabbed by people there. He was held in a headlock until police eventually arrived and according to some witnesses he was saying, kill me. Kill me myjob is done. The police say they detained a 48 year old man. Police say they detained a 48yearold man. Daniel sandford, thank you. We were some of those incredible accounts, terrifying. One of those grabbed the man out of the white van and held him on the floor until the Police Arrived. Yes, with no thoughts for their own safety. Police arrived. Yes, with no thoughts for their own safetym must have been horrible to have been involved in that and those eight people who have been injured are treated in four separate hospitals and the man who was arrested is being treated in hospital at the moment and police will be questioning him. We are expecting a Police Statement. Were not sure of the timings of the statement, but weve got our camera there. As soon as it happens we will bring it to you here on bbc breakfast. We are trying to keep you up to date with other things including the weather and carol can tell us how it has been. Good morning. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far. Today, it is likely to be hotter which is 33 celsius. Now, for many of the uk, we are looking, many parts of the uk, it is going to be sunny. It is going to be hot, but there is an exception and thats across the far north of scotland. Here weve got a Weather Front so temperatures will be lower, but across many parts of england and wales, Southern Scotland, were looking at highs in the high 20s, or indeed, for some, the low 30s. Pollen levels today are also very high more or less across the board, the exception being where we have a Weather Front and the Weather Front is producing some rain, but that rain will fizzle as we go through the day. But as the Weather Front sinks south, fresher conditions follow on from behind, but there will be a lot of sunshine. Strong sunshine, uv levels, are very high across many parts particularly the south today as well. So these are the kind of temperature values you can expect. Inland, were looking up to 33 celsius. Along the coast, it will be cooler with sea breezes developing. There is a chance we could see the odd shower develop too across eastern and central england. It could be thundery, but most of us will miss them. There is a higher risk across Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland, but here you will be unlucky if you catch one. The rain across the north does continued to fizzle leaving cloud in its wake. One or two showers for Northern Ireland, but most missing them. Most staying dry with highs into the high teens. Then were back into temperatures in the 20s. Were going to interrupt you. The Police Statement sadly, londoners are waking up to the news of another dreadful incident in the capital that has left a number of people seriously injured. The attack unfolded whilst a man was already receiving first aid from public at the scene and sadly that man has died. Any causative link between his death and the attack will form part of our investigation. It is too early to state if his death was as a result of this attack. Our thoughts, are absolutely with all of those affected by the inside at Seven Sisters road and theirfamily, friends and the wider community. No matter what the motivation for this attack proves to be, we are keeping an open mind. This is being treated asa an open mind. This is being treated as a Terrorist Attack and the Counter Terrorism command is investigating. This was an attack on london and all londoners and we should all stand together against extremists whatever their cause. From 21 minutes past midnight this morning, Police Received a number of calls to Seven Sisters road following a van having collided with pedestrians. Officers were in the vicinity at the time. Actually as the attack unfolded and they responded instantly. Additional officers were on scene within ten minutes. One man, as ive said, was pronounced dead add the scene. Eight others are in hospital and two more we re others are in hospital and two more were treated at the scene. All the victims were from the Muslim Community. Id like to prays the Police Officers who immediately responded who gave life saving treatment at the scene, but also very much those members of the public who assisted before and after this incident. Also at the scene detained by members of that community was the man suspected of being the driver during this attack. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Iwould he has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. I would like to thank those people who helped police in detaining the man and worked with officers to calmly and quickly get him into our custodiment their restraint in the circumstances is commendable. This investigation is ongoing and we are working fast to know the full details of how and why it took place. At this early stage of the investigation, no other suspects have been identified or reported to police. And there were no reports of any people having suffered any knife injuries. Across london have been deployed across londonine to have been deployed across londonine to reassure communities order to reassure communities especially those observing ramadan at this very sensitive time. I would urge everyone to remain calm and remain vigilant. I ask the public with any information about this incident or anything, that causes them concern or suspicion to call them concern or suspicion to call the police on 0800789321. Obviously this is a very early stage of the investigation. However, as and when i can make more information available, i will. And when i can make more information available, iwill. This and when i can make more information available, i will. This has been an incredibly challenging tile for london and the Emergency Services are stretched. Nevertheless, we will all do absolutely everything we can with our partners to protect londoners and our city. Now is a time once again for london to stand together to face those who seek to divide us. Thank you. I can take a couple of questions. Reporter was this immediately considered a Terrorist Attack . Given the methodology and given what was occurring and what happened across the country, this had all the hallmarks of a terrorist incident. Thats why the Counter Terrorism command were called out to investigate. Reporter can you give us more details on how the suspect was detained by members of the public . What actually happened . Detained by members of the public . What actually happened . There has been a lot of images put out by the media as and when he was detained. It seems to me at the time he was quickly and calmly given over to the police and put into custody. I think as ive said i think that was commendable by members of the community who must have been incredibly shaken and incredibly scared and incredibly angry and id like to thank them and what it proves to me is londoners will act together to protect themselves, but they will do so in a way that doesnt feed into terrorist and extremists hands. Can you give us anymore details about how serious the injuries are those to in hospital . No, its too early to say and the hospital and nhs england will be updating later on the condition of the casualties. At least two are very serious. Again, our thoughts go out to the families and theirfriends our thoughts go out to the families and their friends who must be very shaken at this time. Inaudible have they been able to integrate him . That will be a priority of our investigation. As soon as he is in our custody and been through our formal custody procedures, he will be questioned as part of the investigation. Eyewitnesses said they saw other people running away after the attack. Inaudible right, let me be very clear at this time. That was obviously a very key line of inquiry for us right at the start of this investigation. From what we are seeing and from witnesses are reporting to us, there was nobody else in the van and it appears at this time this attacker attacked alone. Thats not to say that we are not investigating the full circumstances of how he came to be where he was and at this point in time there was nobody else in the van. Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen, thank you. Thats a statement from the police. Just to give you a summary really. They are saying its too early to say if the man who died was as a result of the attack. It is being treated as a Terrorist Attack and he went dont to say that it was an attack on london and all londoners. Yes, he said, that was Deputy Deputy assista nt yes, he said, that was Deputy Deputy assistant commissioner. He said interestingly that there were officers on the scene immediately giving Emergency Care as well. Others arrived on the scene within ten minutes. He confirmed that all victims were from the Muslim Community, one died at the scene. Eight others are being treated in hospital and he did say as well, you might of caught that at the end that two of the eight are in what he called a very serious condition. He went out of his way, didnt he, to praise members of the public because we have been hearing from them all morning saying how they helped to detain this man and he particularly praised them for the bravery and also for the restraint under the circumstances which he said was commendable. And also saying its an incredibly challenging time for london. We have been hearing this morning and speaking to number of people at the scene and to the Muslim Council of britain saying how there is fear in the community and he says there will be extra resources a cross he says there will be extra resources across london being deployed particularly at this time when muslims will be observing ramadan. We will have more in the next few minutes. It is time to get the news, the travel and the weather wherever youre watching us this morning. A eight man instead after a van driven to pedestrians in Finsbury Park mosque.
