Michael samwell and his wife were woken up by a loud noise, and the former royal naval officer went downstairs to have a look. The exact sequence of events that followed is not clear, but outside, now cordoned off, the 35 year old was run over as his car was stolen. He was taken to hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The vehicle was found abandoned a few miles away. This could have happened to anyone. You hear a noise downstairs and you go and see what it is. It is incredibly tragic that he has lost his life. This is described as a quiet corner of manchester. But it is fairly sporadic and it is the same for south west england. The cloud will continue to build and we are looking at a cloudy afternoon with patchy rain across wales. Through this evening, as that Weather Front pushes away from the south coast and moves across into the Channel Islands the cold air streams in behind it. We continue with the snow across low levels, but we will see wintriness across Northern Ireland and north wales, but again, they are showers so not all of us will catch one. A lot of dry weather and clear skies, so it will be frosty and it will be icy of the so something to watch out for first thing. But there will be a lot of sunshine tomorrow, but tomorrow, a plethora of showers and once again almost anywhere you could see little bit of wintriness in them. Still cold in the northerly wind. So although we have seen temperatures between seven and 11 celsius, if youre exposed to the wined, it will feel colder than the temperatures suggest. As we head on into wednesday, there will be areas of showery rain dotted around. At its peak the Make Shift Camp known as Thejungle In Calais was home to 7,000 migrants, most were looking for a route into the uk. Six months ago it was shut down and Authorities Say there are only around 100 migrants still in the french port. But a new report seen exclusively by bbc breakfast puts the figure at four times that with migrants including unaccompanied children Sleeping Rough in calais and paris. Breakfasts Graham Satchell has been to Northern France to see the impact of the camps closure. Six months after thejungle closed, the centre of calais is a picture of calm. Cafe culture at its most serene. The port, so long the destination for migrants is running normally. Lorry traffic is up 10 this year. Its very quiet. Wtih lorries before we had 8,000 migrants per month that we would discover, today that is down to 300. It is nearly nothing. The jungle was home to some 10,000 migrants. It came to be seen by the authorities as a magnet for people wanting to get to britain. So did closing it solve a problem . Ive had bottles, rocks, bricks thrown at the truck. When he crosses the border into france, jacob wont stop. So we caught up with him in belgium. Although its safer getting in and out of france the problem now is that you dont feel safe in more areas of france. It hasnt gone away. It has simply moved the problem. Six in the evening. On the corner of an Industrial Estate in calais, a Nightly Ritual is played out. Charities hand out food and clothes to migrants. Most are teenagers without their parents, like this 15 year old from eritrea. Yes, england. You want to go to england . Yes. And do you have family there . Yes, my uncle. Your uncle is there . Why do you not stay here and claim asylum here in france . I do not like it. You do not like to saty in france . Yes. The report out today from the Refugee Rights data project says there are about 400 migrants in calais today, many sleeping in the woods. Public opinion has hardened for all forms of migration, but Michael Mchugh from the Refugee Youth Service says genuine asylum claims must be heard. It is not about what people want or do not want. We have tens of thousands of children moving across europe. There is a legal right for many of these children to go to the uk. It is being actively obstructed. 30 minutes from calais, this is what is left of another migrant camp near dunkirk. It burnt down after a fight between rival groups of kurds and afghans. This is where many migrants came when thejungle closed. The french government had plans in place to dismantle this camp before the fire. The government wants to pretend that the problem does not exist and their strategy is to destroy the places where people live, thinking that if we destroy their places and they have no places to be they will disappear. Just after seven in calais, the police move in. The french determined another camp will not be established. One of the migrants is arrested. The problem here has been alleviated but not solved. As the weather improves, thousands of migrants are already on the move across the middle east and africa. Many will make it here in the hope of getting to the uk. It is this one that will pep up the showers, wintry in nature to give a more prolonged spell of snow, gradually slumping across the eastern side of scotland. That may give one or two centimetres at low levels and five centimetres across higher ground. In the south, until that front arrives, temperatures will make double figures. But further north, they could be as low as 2 degrees. Add in the strength of the wind, and it will feel pretty raw. We can com plete will feel pretty raw. We can complete that transition process overnight, with further wintry showers giving snow across Eastern Parts of the British Isles and a noticeable frost and they will start to the day on tuesday. Sunshine, yes, but wintry showers aplenty tumbling their way across northern parts of scotland and down the Eastern Shores of england. If you are sheltered from the northerly breeze, it will not feel much warmer, but you may see fewer showers at and more sunshine. By wednesday, those temperatures are still struggling, and the breeze is still struggling, and the breeze is still out of the north and north west, with further showers to come.
