They have been 1256 earlier i spoke to our Business Editor, simonjack, whos been negative tests. That is the last talking to a Senior Executive at a leading supermarket. Update we had for coronavirus. Six they got in touch with me this morning saying they were slightly positive tests for the virus. There baffled by Matt Hancocks remarks last night. Isa positive tests for the virus. There is a geographical spread to those they said theyd heard nothing positive tests, one from teesside at all from government directly. And theyd run around to others was the first, ayrshire, grampian, forth valley, Greater Glasgow and and theyd had the same story. There was no coordinated approach clyde, but all of those had either from government to supermarkets travelled to affected areas or had directly or indeed the trade body contact with known cases, so in which represents them and it is their words not mine, scotland we are still very much in matt hancock has totally made up the containment phase of this virus. That, that he has been the chief medical officer here working with supermarkets, weve heard nothing from him. From him or indeed the government. Doctor Catherine Calderwood was speaking earlier today and said that staying in the containment phase for they are just expressing we dont weeks or even just days will make know where this has come from because we know nothing about it. All the difference. The rugby at so there is clearly a discrepancy of the government are saying murrayfield is going ahead this weekend between france and scotland. And what the industry is hearing from government and i was also told tens of thousands of people expected that cupboard basics, to attend that. They are going to have heightened Public Health measures, hand sanitiser is, more you know, tinned food, medical staff, and encouraging people who feel ill to stay away. Pasta etc, the sales are going through the roof and while they are keeping up, they are having to work there are 41 surveillance gp in their words round the clock to keep the shelves stocked practices sampling people who are and added they didnt think presenting with flu like symptoms the government saying dont panic and clinicians are testing for the buy was particularly helpful because the people dont virus and people admitted to hear that the right way Critical Care with pneumonia. That and they do get concerned. And further to that, they said we are having to use isa set up Critical Care with pneumonia. That is a set up to try to get a handle processes and Staffing Levels be put in place for a no deal brexit, on wider spread, community spread, right now to keep those shelves stocked now. If and when it starts happening, but they thought the advice should be at the moment we are not there yet people should keep shopping normally and the government comments in scotland. Yesterday the first minister Nicola Sturgeon told the were unhelpful and misleading. Scottish parliament the number of let me just get you to reiterate coronavirus cases here is likely to rise and it could happen very that, you are saying the person quickly. She said it was potentially who called you and the others that you have subsequently spoken a very serious situation for to supermarket executives, say they have had no direct contact scotland but they were not the face from the government of it. She said there will be and the supermarkets trade body is also saying it has no direct contact from the government, difficult decisions potentially involved in this and ministers will is that correct . Not take them lightly. At the moment the supermarket executive i spoke to said they had had no direct six positive cases in scotland, contact from the government, still in the containment phase and we expect another update at 2p on the trade body representative said this afternoon. What about in the idea that we do not recognise Northern Ireland . Here, there are the idea that there is any coordinated approach from government to make sure that supermarket suppliers are coming. Three confirmed cases. Like in and they also likened these comments scotla nd three confirmed cases. Like in scotland we have a press conference this afternoon where the public to some comments that Michael Gove Health agency will give us an update made before a no deal brexit at tpn so we may have an update on deadline earlier this year. At the end of the year. That. Where there have been developments is size of the border where he said weve spoken in the republic of ireland where the to retailers and they are ready number of cases has more than for a no deal brexit. Doubled to 13 and significantly one again, they said they did not recognise that they ever made of those cases was a Cross Community those comments. Infection, so that meant that the person who was in members of how are supply chains dealing with these demands . They are saying they are able to do so, but they are having to work around the clock. That is all i can say because i have only had conversations with one leading supermarket. Sales of the things like tinned goods and pasta are going to the roof. They are keeping up with it, but having to work around the clock. Using that is 60 out of 3000 members of staff, so a significant development. Right in the heart of dublin city processes that they used two that they put in place for a no deal centre, trinity college, there has been a confirmed infection there, brexit. That is all i can say. That and part of that Famous University is the first hand account i got from has been closed off. The football one leading supermarket. Sat was simon talking to me jack match tomorrow, the rugby match, between ireland and italy, we have one leading supermarket. Sat was simon talking to me jack simon talking to me a little bit earlier. Known for a couple of weeks that is the number of confirmed cases not going to take place. Here in in the uk stands at 116. Our health correspondent, Northern Ireland the chief constable philippa roxby, says some of those with coronavirus are being treated at home. Has said that it is possible that cases of coronavirus are going to rise. Maybe police leave is going to have Health Officials and specialist are saying that is to be cancelled and police are going absolutely a guarantee. To be cancelled and police are going to have to be asked to work longer what is interesting shifts. He also said that there is that we have sadly had ourfirst death. Might be merged together police more powers to bring them in line with that was expected, but what is slightly scotla nd powers to bring them in line with scotland or england and wales to be different is that people with able to work with the Public Health the virus are being treated at home rather than being sent to hospital. Authorities, should they be needed, but the chief constable did say that while we are not anticipating the around half of the cases in the uk are self isolating worst Case Scenario we are preparing at home and that is something that is slightly new. For it. Before i hand back, let me there is obviously Community Show you this poster that has just transmission going on because ten cases currently we do not know been updated by the Public Health where that virus has come from, agency in Northern Ireland. This is they have no connection to travel abroad or with people who travelled abroad and an update encouraging people to that is something Health Officials are looking into. Print from the website and put up in they need to try and find out why these are under the radar. Their workplaces and anywhere where if people are being treated at home, it can be seen and one part of it is what exactly does that mean . Are they being left to their own devices you would go into self isolation to take paracetamol when you are in parts of italy, now and drink lots of fluids they are seeing if you came at all or is someone calling them to ask them how they are . It may well be that their symptoms from italy and are showing symptoms. Are extremely mild. And there is nothing really that can be done other than just wait for the symptoms to recover. They are encouraging people to print if you are serious at that often put it in public spaces. All, if you have serious i will hand back to you in the lung issues or a fever or breathing difficulties, there is no doubt, newsroom in london. Thank you, keith you would be sent to a specialist unit and that you would be monitored. But for those with very mild. Doyle, lorna gordon and thomas do we know if Health Professionals are checking in with those who morgan. Declared that they think they have peru joins a list of countries coronavirus, they are self isolating . Is someone talking to recording coronavirus cases, recording coronavirus cases, recording its first case of the them . Yes, there is communication, virus, according to the peruvian they would have tested positive. President. Now the business news. They have having very little symptoms, it is found there is no reason to transfer them to hospitals. It was interesting stockmarkets are falling because of fears about the spread of the coronavirus. Investors are concerned that listening yesterday saying that the companies are losing business biggest signal thing in terms of because of the outbreak. Planning which would be helpful is banks and airlines are to know how many people have this especially under pressure. Virus and are asymptomatic. What are starbucks is to stop serving the chances of lots of us walking coffee in reusable cups around having this and not actually reading it . Actually realising brought in by customers because of the virus. Its a temporary move it. That could be happening. Under and follows similar action by Train Company lner. The radar people could be passing it theres been a data breach to each other. That is very much how affecting almost a million virgin media customers. The virus operates and we can see their personal details were left that happening in italy. We are a unguarded online for ten months. Long way from where italy is, the the firms blaming government is saying that they are very much prepared. The nhs is on a technical glitch. Standby for an epidemic and are ramping up of cases and they are well prepared. That was our health the collapse of flybe has left many parts of the uk correspondent. The vast majority of people considering the potential impact who contract coronavirus on their economies. Thats because many of its routes will recover quickly, and wont need hospital treatment. Were vital to many small most will experience nothing more companies. The george best airport than flu like symptoms, in belfast is one and children in particular seem of the worst affected to be only mildly affected. Where 80 of the flights were operated by flybe. But for some patients, ben thompson has more for us. The virus is more dangerous. 0ur health correspondent, james gallagher, has this assessment of the risks. Good morning from belfast city airport, which relied on the routes how deadly is the coronavirus . It is offered by flybe. 80 of the flights a really simple question, but the are operated by the airline which a nswer a really simple question, but the answer is actually quite elusive. If went under yesterday. It is a real you look at confirmed cases and challenge now. You might be able to deaths, you get a figure of 3. 4 make out the local of loganair which dying. That is between three and has promised to take on two of the fourin dying. That is between three and four in every hundred people. But 14 rates that flybe operated from that number is actually quite here in belfast, but nonetheless unstable. Some of these patients are they questions about the others. For being treated who could still die. It makes the virus the more deadly, regional economies there are warnings it could hit hard. At the same time there is a huge businesses that rely on those routes number of mild cases going simply not able to get to where they wa nt to unnoticed. That could mean the death simply not able to get to where they want to go. What negotiations are rate is lower. When this is all under way . I have been speaking to taken into rate is lower. When this is all ta ken into account rate is lower. When this is all taken into account by scientists is the boss at belfast city airport. Estimated it is 1 , one and 100 for a year flybe have been in people dying. That is higher than a difficulty. 0ur priority is to typical flu season. Which support them but develop a people dying. That is higher than a typicalflu season. Which kills people dying. That is higher than a contingency plan but we are talking typical flu season. Which kills one ina typical flu season. Which kills one in a thousand people appeared about replacing two thirds of our doesnt the flu kill more people . Business and that is a sizeable yes, it does. Around about half a challenge. The good news is there is a Strong Demand for the routes out Million People every year. While the coronavirus has killed just over of this airport and therefore we 3000. The reason is that the flu have engaged with multiple airlines. We wa nt infects hundreds of millions of have engaged with multiple airlines. We want to leave is shorter gap as people every year, while coronavirus is only just taking possible so as not to disrupt people every year, while coronavirus is onlyjust taking off. If the passengers so if we can make further number swords, that thats well too. Announcements next week and start to when it starts spreading her wildly back fill that gap of 14 roots then thatis who should be more worried . This back fill that gap of 14 roots then that is the priority for us. Much as data is based on china, he suggests the story here in belfast but other the death rate is quite low it Regional Airports like newquay are through to middle age. But over the likely to feel this as well. Newquay age of 50, the debts go up. As we does not have a direct rail service get older our immune systems get for most of the year, just in peak wea ker get older our immune systems get weaker and our bodies are more summer, and even then it takes five frail. This puts us at more risk. Hours between london and newquay. There is a dangerfor people frail. This puts us at more risk. The flybe flight to just another. There is a danger for people already sick. If you are struggling with a railways may be able to pick up some wea k sick. If you are struggling with a weak heart or lungs, your body is of the slack in some regions but less a ble weak heart or lungs, your body is less able to fight off infection. Places like Northern Ireland, here there is an interesting difference between men and women. A could be in belfast, that is not an option, and finding new deals with new down to the differences in the airlines is crucial, and the boss immune system or the fact that men are more likely to smoke that has said that as their top priority, explains why men have a higher death rate than women. There is still to get some of those routes uncertainty of all these figures. Re established. Then thompson in rememberfor most uncertainty of all these figures. Remember for most people coronavirus will be a mild infection. And there are still questions over belfast. Whether a vaccine will be ready in time to help deal with this outbreak. The chief scientific officer, sir patrick vallance, markets continuing to suffer has said that he doesnt because of coronavirus. Think its likely. Banks are down almost 4 and have i dont think we will get the vaccine outbreak. Hit their lowest point since 2009. Something in time and in there are real fears that the virus could spark a recession. Oil prices are also on the slide for the same reason. Scale for this outbreak, that said, thats all the business news. There have been remarkable changes the headlines on bbc news in the ability to make vaccines and discovered them just more than 140 british nationals in the last few years. Are stranded on a cruise so things have progressed much more ship off San Francisco quickly than they would which is not being allowed to dock have done in the past and it is not in the city after some passengers unreasonable to assume that we will end up with a vaccine. Developed flu like symptons. And we may do so in a year, 18 months, which is remarkable when you considerjust the best friend of dubais princess a few years ago it would have taken latifa says she is pleased that 20 years to do that. A High Court Ruling has revealed the countrys ruler abducted two of his daughters, many events are under threat due and subjected his estranged wife to a campaign of intimidation. Years foreign entries. The figures for britain are similar and show that british men are much lets speak to bill lambert head of health and welfare more accepting of sexual banter for the event. Than their counterparts in countries like the us, mexico and australia. Earlier i spoke to the former a good morning to you. Thank you for australian Prime Minister joining us. Visitors from all over Julia Gillard about this and she told me that there is still a lot of work to be the world attracted to crufts. What sort of impact is coronavirus having done to achieve equality in the workplace. On it . Certainly numbers are down. But we feel that. We had a very successful day yesterday which is i think a lot of us would have the second day of crufts. Some of assumed before the survey that after decades of talking about gender equality and particularly after oui the second day of crufts. Some of our people said they were selling the Metoo Movement that it would be out of stuff. Tell us about the better than last. It does reinforce the need for employers to step up in terms enhanced measures to protect people of shaping workplace cultures compared to what you normally have . And making sure that they are inclusive and respectful of everyone. It suggests despite the developments we brought in 3000 extra hand of the last couple of years sanitizers. A lot of signage around and in particular the Metoo Movement so as you have cited, but culturally, sanitizers. A lot of signage around so people have opportunity to make sure that they take the advice which there is still an enormous shift that needs to take place. There is more to do. Is washing your hands for 20 this survey asks men and women about whether or not seconds. Thejudges they would stand up if there is washing your hands for 20 seconds. The judges have is washing your hands for 20 seconds. Thejudges have new procedures they are not putting was a sexist remark or conduct their hands on the dog. There are and, overwhelmingly, lots of Little Things that we are doing to try to make people aware of what they should be doing. We men and women say that they would. Mentioned that italy top the list interestingly, in the uk more men forforeign entries and women say they would. Mentioned that italy top the list for foreign entries last year. Are those numbers down this time around . They say they particularly would in their family and friendship group. A sizeable number say they would at work even with a colleague who was senior. We are seeing some progress, we have around 200 exhibits coming some willingness to address these from italy this year. The exclusion kinds of cultures and the barriers that hold women back. Zones, people from there cannot when we have numbers that show come. They will be here over the that there are still a sizeable minority who think that very next couple of days as well. Do you discriminatory conduct is ok, there is much more to do by employers and by all of us. Have a strategy to keep a record of what are the key things that who exactly is at the show in terms you would like to see employers do who are not already putting of exhibitors and where they have strategies in place to deal with this sort of behaviour . Come from . We do absolutely. We know we think it is important for where they are from we have their employers to get on the front foot. Names and addresses. That is just i mean, i think what Many Employers have done particularly in the wake of the Metoo Movement the exhibitors. Not the visitor is that they have set in place complaint procedures because anyone is free to come. That and the like so people can raise poor conduct and that is good. Isa because anyone is free to come. That is a measure that the government will have to take. To see who is there should be a way for people coming into the country. You are not to be able to say at work that keeping a record of general something has happened and it needs visitors . No, that is not something to be corrected. But we are really asking for employers to go the next step we can to. Ticket sales people who and have a proactive approach bought a ticket are able to come. To looking at their workplace culture, talking to staff about how to make sure relationships people seem generally unconcerned . At work are respectful. Yes, we have asked a few people. I rather than waiting saw one person wearing a mask. For when something has gone wrong and using a process to try people dont seem too concerned. The and address it, actually be building a culture that is inclusive people i spoke to are really of all right from the beginning. Unconcerned about it. Are people it is really interesting that the data shows in the survey still kissing their dogs . Im asking that people feel that womens careers are significantly more you that, he may have seen the at risk if they turn reports that it has been asked down a romantic advance. People not to kiss their dogs after if they talk about their family life it was reported that doug may have contracted low level of coronavirus. Or dont take part in social activities with other colleagues. Tell us about that because that seems, on top of the inappropriate it is not known if pass on to humans comments, the sexist comments, but is that something on your radar . Largely directed towards women, that women are suffering more i have not seen anybody giving less on this front as well. Affection to their dogs and that is something we would not want to see that is true, and when we peer we are doing the best. There look at that section is no evidence that there is dog to human transfer. At the moment they of the survey people are reporting what is there lived reality. We know there are continuing to be many structural barriers for women at work, so workplaces where part of being on the network, advise that we offer is that the risk is very low. 0k, thank you very in the in group, getting the next opportunity for promotion, is about socialising after hours, which is often harderfor women to do because they much for your time. Disproportionately take the load when it comes to childcare and other you can keep up to date with all the forms of Domestic Work in the home. Developments concerning coronavirus on the bbc news app and on our i think people are also responding website. There is the address on the to lived experiences when they know screen. That it can cost a woman at work the headlines on bbc news. Saw up close because you were on the but it was first used in 1987 boat with latifah in 2018 when she to convict the killer of two teenage tried to escape to buy. She was girls in leicestershire preventing a grave miscarriage of justice taken when she tried to escape divide. As Graham Satchell reports. When that happens it was terrifying. November 1983. Is probably one of the scariest the body of a 15 Year Old Girl experiences ive ever had. The boat lynda mann is found in a village near leicester. Was stormed by indian commandos who its still raw. Have a good deal of sunshine across the government says its working the board with a little bit of fair weather cloud bubbling up. Scherer to save more routes. Is associated with a weather front a Study Suggests more than a quarter affecting scotland, Northern Ireland and the west of england that will of men think telling sexualjokes slowly move eastwards as we head and stories at work is acceptable. Through this evening but tending to fizzle out. It will be a fairly a survey of more than 20,000 people chilly afternoon but at least they will be the sunshine to compensate. In 27 countries has been carried out the showers fizzle out and many to Mark International womens day. Places will be dry and clear the figures for britain are similar and show that british men are much overnight but another weather system more accepting of sexual banter than their counterparts pushes into the north and west of in countries like the us, the country bringing increasing cloud, rain and snow on the hills of mexico and australia. Scotland. Michael night to come for many with trust. The weather is in a moment, well speak to the former australian Prime MinisterJulia Gillard about this. First heres a reminder of how she called out sexist behaviour in the Australian Parliament in 2012 looking unsettled for saturday. A when she described the oppositions tony cold night. Lots of isobars across abbott as a misogynist. The country meaning it is going to i will not be lectured about sexism be windier through the course of the and misogyny by this man. I will day and we will see some rain. Most not and the government will not be of the day will be across the north and west of the country. A little lectured about sexism and misogyny further south into western england by this man not now not ever. The and wales and the eastern native leader of the opposition says that england may not see rain until after dark but some diminishing after a people who hold sexist views and who chilly start and it will turn much are misogynists are not appropriate for high office, well i hope the milder into the afternoon leader of the opposition has a piece double figure values. Turning wet and windy with gusts touching 40 or of paper and he is writing out his 50 mph around the irish sea coasts resignation. Because if he wants to know what misogyny looks like in and that wind move eastwards across the country and then we are into a modern australian, he does not need a motion in the house of very showery but cooler regime as we representatives, he needs a mirror. Head into sunday. Milder air clears the south east of england on sunday lets speak now toJulia Gillard, morning at the colours take over. A bit of a wet start for the who we just saw in that clip south east, east anglia, the milder that was a very memorable time. Talk airgets south east, east anglia, the milder air gets shunted away and we head into the bright windy day with to us about this report thatjust came out and its findings. This sunshine blustery showers. Some of report is pointing to toxic work these heavy with hail and thunder and some snow to the hills as the temperatures begin to fall into cultures and the vast majority of single figures. Next week we have a people are of course not buying into couple of deep areas of low this, but unfortunately a sizeable minority are. You cited some of the pressure. There is one on monday and tuesday which could bring destructive weather with spells of findings. It is around one man in heavy rain and very windy conditions three who thinks that it is ok to and we could see girls are severe tell a joke that has sexual content gales particularly on monday so stay at work. It is around one man in ten tuned to the forecast. Who think it is ok to put up a poster or some otherform who think it is ok to put up a poster or some other form of display that has a sexual image. Those proportions vary country by country. I think proportions vary country by country. Ithinka proportions vary country by country. I think a lot of us would have assumed before the survey that after decades of talking about gender equality and particularly after that Metoo Movement that it would be better than last. It does reinforce the need for employers to step up in terms of shaping workplace cultures and making sure that they are inclusive and respectful of everyone. It suggests despite the developments of the last couple of yea rs developments of the last couple of years and in particular, Metoo Movement as you have cited, but culturally, there is still an enormous shift that needs to take place. There is more to do. This survey asks men and women about whether or not they would stand up if there was a sexist remark or conduct and overwhelmingly, men and women say that they would. Interesting thing, in the uk more than and women say they would. They say they particularly would in their family and friendship group. A sizeable number say they would at work even with a colleague who was senior. We are seeing some progress, some willingness to address these kinds of cultures and the barriers that hold women back. When we have that hold women back. When we have that showed that there are still a sizeable minority who think that very discriminatory conduct is ok, there is much more to do by employers and by all of us. What are the key things that you would like to see employers do who are not already putting strategies in place to deal with this sort of behaviour . We think it is important for employers to get on the front foot. The Prime Minister promises more imean, i employers to get on the front foot. I mean, i think what Many Employers government money in the battle have done particularly in the wake against coronavirus. Of the Metoo Movement is that they have set in place complaint borisjohnson says the government procedures and the like so people will spend another £46 million, can raise poor conduct and that is including research on a new vaccine good. There should be a way for people to be able to say at work against the disease. That something has happened and it needs to be corrected. But we are throughout this crisis, we will make really asking for employers to go sure that the nhs has all the the next step and have a proactive support it needs. Coronavirus testing kits are airlifted onto a cruise ship off the california coast approach looking at their workplace where140 britons are among culture, talking to staff about how those in quarantine. To make sure relationships at work the spread of the virus brings more are respectful. Rather than waiting big falls on global markets. For when something has gone wrong well be live with our Business Editor. And im using a process to try and also this lunchtime. Address it, actually be building a when the water wont go away. The enduring misery of an east Yorkshire Village flooded culture that is inclusive of all for more than a week. Right from the beginning. After months of fighting, culture that is inclusive of all right from the beginningm culture that is inclusive of all right from the beginning. It is really interesting that the data a ceasefire in syrias idlib shows in the survey that people feel that womens careers are significantly more at risk if they turn down a romantic advance. They talk about their family life or dont take part in social activities with other colleagues. Tell us about that because that seems on top of the inappropriate comments, the sexist comments, largely directed towards women, that women are suffering more on this front as well. That is true, and when we look at that section of the survey people are reporting what is there left reality. We know there are continuing to be many structural barriers for women at work, so workplaces where part of being on the network, in the in group, getting the next opportunity for promotion, is about socialising after hours, which is often harder for women to do because they disproportionately take the load when it comes to childcare and other forms of Domestic Work in the home. I think people are also responding to lived experiences when they know that it can cost a woman at work if she rejects advance from a colleague ora she rejects advance from a colleague or a superior or if she is seen to complain about that kind of conduct, and over many generations now i think people have seen that if men talk about their families that work it enhances their status. They are seen to be a family man, whereas if a women talks about her family at work she is seen to not have her mind on thejob. These barriers are still there for women. What we do at the Global Institute for womens leadership as we tried to shine a light on exactly these kinds of barriers and then i must be evidence about what is the best thing to clear them out of the way, and to make sure that progress for women is truly fair. Each country of course has to effectively put its own house in order. Given that we began our conversation by looking at calling out misogyny in australian politics, how do you think australia is doing . I read a story about a melbourne newspaper cancelling its reader commentary on the womens competition because of vile and sexist posts directed towards those women players, so how is australia doing . We have to do much better. The World Economic forum puts out rankings of gender equality and australia has slipped in those rankings, down to number 44. Our near neighbours in new zealand are at number six, so that is a challenge for us. Australians and new zealanders tend to be competitive on the sporting field so i hope that spurs us to more action in australia for gender equality. When it comes to the kind of vile stuff that can be on social media, thatis stuff that can be on social media, that is not just stuff that can be on social media, that is notjust australia. We know that is notjust australia. We know that that happens right around the world. It is a challenge for women who are in the Public Square who are in politics and we saw a lot of that play out in the lead up to the last uk election with a number of very senior women who could have gone on in their political careers to ever more Higher Office actually chose to exit politics, many of them citing the fact that they were over having their day punctuated by very violent and revolting remarks on social media. I think this is a shared challenge right around the world. The former Prime Minister of australia, thank you very much for your time. We have got some sunshine across many parts of the uk at the moment. It has been quite a chilly start with some frost this morning but you can see from the satellite imagery the best of the sun changes across central and eastern areas with some cloud in South West England and the west of scotland and with that we had some showers moving away. One or two across wales, the south west of england. Further east being mostly dry with the sunshine continuing into the afternoon. Maximum temperature seven to 10 celsius. Tonight we will see clear skies across eastern parts and it could turn chilly and elsewhere cloud will move on from the west and rain pushing through scotland into Northern Ireland and the north west of england. Temperatures staying around fora, of england. Temperatures staying around for a, five, maybe even 6 degrees. 0ver around for a, five, maybe even 6 degrees. Over the weekend quite cloudy on saturday between affecting northern and western parts. Reinstate eastwood overnight saturday into sunday and we will be left with some sunny spells and showers and feeling a bit chilly. Hello, this is bbc newsroom live. First, the formalities, a little more cautious in light of coronavirus. But it wasnt long before the shackles were off for the usa. Carly telford kept england in it. A fine save by telford. Weakened by injury, england had chances but couldnt take them. After the break, Christen Press would show them how its done. There was nothing telford could do about this. 1 0, World Champions ahead. Englands plans had unravelled in minutes. After running the usa close at the world cup, this felt like a backwards step. A sixth defeat in nine games. England second best in every way. What we were saying at half time was there was nothing to be scared of, nothing to be fearful of. Ultimately, two bits of, well, the first goal was magic, the first goal was a brilliant strike. The second goal, i thought, was poor defensively, which we need to be better on. Butjust two little bits of quality, thats why theyre the best team in the world. After england beat them to the shebelieves trophy last year, this will be a really satisfying win for these us players on their home turf. They were ruthless here in orlando this evening. One of the cyclists stuck in quarantine at the hotel in abu dhabi says his main concern in the coming days is getting enough food. Ramon sinkeldam was placed in lockdown after concerns about the coronavirus. On tuesday, he received an indoor bike to use in his room but hes worried the food delivered to his door isnt sufficient. We are obviously burning a lot of calories on the bike. You burn a lot of sugar and carbs and with a third thatis of sugar and carbs and with a third that is provided for normal people it is enough that we burn 3000 per day more so we are figuring out a way to get us some more rice or oats or whatever, but i think the hotel is also willing to help us. Thats all the sport for now. Ill have more for you in the next hour. Weve had some updates from the government on coronavirus in the past few minutes. The Prime Ministers Spokesman Says the government has met with Food Industry bodies this week to discuss continuity of Food Supplies. In addition, he said for now the uk is still in the containment phase, but as it is now highly likely that the infection will spread in a significant way oficials are accelerating work on the delay phase of the governments plan. The Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the governments Cobra Civil Contingencies Committee on the issue on monday. Lets turn to the global picture. 89 countries and territories have now confirmed infections cameroon and serbia havejust confirmed their first case. Lets take a look at the latest numbers. There are over 98,000 cases around the world so far with china still at the top. More than 3,300 people have died. But more than 55,000 people who had the virus have recovered. The city of bethlehem, in the west bank, has been put under quarantine after seven people were diagnosed with the covid 19. No one whether palestinian or israeli is allowed to enter or leave bethlehem until further notice. With a state of emergency in place, all churches, mosques, schools and hotels in the city have been closed as our middle east correspondent anna foster reports. Angry protests on the streets ofjericho. This is where the Palestinian Authority planned to treat its coronavirus patients, but they arent wanted here. In bethlehem, theres real concern. The main checkpoint into israel was closed and people have been told they can only leave in an emergency. The infected workers are all from this hotel. Theyve been in contact with a group of greek tourists, who tested positive once they returned home. This place is now closed, as are all hotels in bethlehem. Theyve been told they cannot accept any new tourists for the next 14 days. That is what were trying to do. Antoine has been quarantined inside, along with the seven people who tested positive. Theyre on a separate floor but without medical treatment, he says. Official information is scarce. Weve done tests and have not received information back and thats why we are struggling, we are not getting much information from the authorities. Even the worlds Oldest Church has been forced to close its doors. Thousand of people pass through the church of the nativity every day to touch the spot where christians believe jesus was born and, now, that is a problem. We have these icons and they have a place where they have to touch the columns and even the star where jesus was born, so thats why if someone has this virus, they will easily transmit to others. All Public Places like this have been shut down to try and contain the spread the virus. Sad for closing, not even the church, bethlehem, they are closing all bethlehem, know what i mean . Nothing to do now. And, as you know, bethlehem depends 100 on pilgrims and tourists. This city relies heavily on visitors from around the world. As a state of emergency is declared, its now bracing for a double hit to the health of its people and to its fragile economy. Lets hear now from someone caught up in the outbreak kari kolstoe whos on board the grand princess cruise ship which is being denied permission to dock in San Francisco, after an outbreak of covid 19. Shes got bone cancer and says she needs urgent treatment. The treatment is very urgent. My cancer has progressed shortly before we left home and the clinicians went ahead and patched me up a bit and sent me on this trip while they were waiting for insurance approvals and so it is really imperative that i get there, and really we are not being told a whole lot, but i dont know whose fault that is, because everybody is trying really hard. And then they told me that i can be put on a list so that if the cruise ship has to stay out to sea for longer i would be on a list that would be given to the cbc for possible approval to go home. You know, there is 1100 crew members who are also affected who are effectively trying to feed and hand bottles of water out. I have bone cancer. It spread to my bones. Im trying to get a chair that i can sit in in my stateroom. So, just kind of trying for some rudimentary things at this point. Supporters of the home secretary, priti patel, have signed a letter in the Daily Telegraph after a series of bullying allegations against her. They describe her as a tough, assertive leader who has never crossed a line. 0ur Political Correspondent Jonathan Blake has more. The signatories to this letter are not exactly household names. There area number of not exactly household names. There are a number of conservative peers. They say they have worked with or alongside priti patel at some point and to give you a flavour of what the letter says, we do not recognise the letter says, we do not recognise the picture that has been painted of priti patel this week. She is certainly a tough, effective and effectively do but even under extreme pressure she has never crossed a line or lost her temper, and it goes on to see like the good ministers cannot be brought down by sneers and gossip, and that is clearly what the home secretary herself is open, showing no intention of leaving her post, and earlier this week borisjohnson gave her his explicit backing, fearing he was sticking by her. Nevertheless priti patel is under investigation for accusations against her of bullying which she denies, by the Cabinet Office, who are looking to see if she has broken the ministerial code, and there is the prospect of an employment tribunal inafew prospect of an employment tribunal in a few months as the top official at the home office is taking legal action against the government for constructive dismissal. So, when that comes around, we could be in a situation where a lot of these accusations could be made in detail and in public, as that may process plays out. But for now, as i say, some backing for the home secretary at the end of what has been a very difficult few days for her. That quote from the u mention says it is vital for democracy quote from the u mention says it is vitalfor democracy good quote from the u mention says it is vital for democracy good ministers cannot be brought down by smears, but also vital for democracy, many would argue, that these crimes are investigated, i do have detailed the investigation going on. Is that going satisfy people . There has been accusations by labour and others that this investigation by the Cabinet Office cannot be properly independent because it is overseen by michael gove, who is a cabinet minister in charge of that office, and he is one of the many government ministers who have defended staunchly priti patel in public in recent days. Nevertheless it will be carried out by officials in that office and the government insists it will be a thorough investigation which will establish whether the ministerial code has been broken. We will have to wait and see what the results of that will be. We do not have a timeframe for it from the government but depending on what it comes up government but depending on what it comes up with and what the report thatis comes up with and what the report that is handed to the Prime Minister says that well to a large extent determine priti patels feet, but in the meantime we are going to have this ongoing debate with claim and cou ntercla i m this ongoing debate with claim and counterclaim from those who believe they have genuine grievances to make against the home secretary and painting a picture of a pattern of behaviour countered by others, supporters of harris, who claim that there are forces at work here and a Concerted Campaign to brief against her because they do not agree with her because they do not agree with her politically. In a moment well have all the business news, but first the headlines on bbc news. As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the uk rises to 116, supermarket bosses say they are baffled by the Health Secretarys suggestion that the government is working with Food Retailers to ensure supplies are uninterrupted. The best friend of dubais princess latifa says she is pleased that a High Court Ruling has revealed the countrys ruler abducted two of his daughters, and subjected his estranged wife to a campaign of intimidation. Almost 100 allies of the home secretary priti patel have written a letter defending her, after a series of bullying allegations. Now the business news. Stockmarkets are falling because of fears about the spread of the coronavirus. Investors are concerned that companies are losing business because of the outbreak. Banks and airlines are especially under pressure. Starbucks is to stop serving coffee in reusable cups brought in by customers because of the virus. Its a temporary move and follows similar action by Train Company lner. Theres been a data breach affecting almost a million virgin media customers. Their personal details were left unguarded online for ten months. The firms blaming a technical glitch. Whats the high street like where you live . It is the heart of many of our communities where we get everything from stamps to sausages. But many of them are suffering. A report out today shows that sales fell last month leaving some retailers in trouble. Hana baram is from mintel and joins me. Tell mintel and joins me. Me, tell mintelandjoins me. Me, what tell mintel and joins me. Me, what is the general state of tell me, what is the general state of health of their high street . Doing quite well still and then we are seeing that a good chunk of retailers are continuing to suffer from slowing sales and low footfall. Iam very from slowing sales and low footfall. I am very aware that there is not a universal picture. Some areas seem to be doing quite well, others are struggling. What is it that some retailers on the high street are doing well . A lot of that is about offering Something Different that people cannot get elsewhere, so retailers stocking unique brands are unique product or even offering really good customer service. Those retailers are bringing in customers still and people i may be more loyal to those retailers whereas other retailers who have a large store portfolio where you can buy the stuff i might as well are perhaps doing less well. Do the big chain brands as counter intuitive as this might sound come to the table with a disadvantage in that if customers are looking for that personal service, that real sense of a story behind the shop, they cannot match what the little guys can do . Some can do it quite well and some are localising their offering, so making things really personal to the areas that they are in, so some stores are making their shops more approachable for local customers or including local touches like items made by local touches like items made by local artisans for example. We are seeing that a lot more. 0thers local artisans for example. We are seeing that a lot more. Others who are not differentiating what they offer are probably doing a little less well because people can just go online and have the same service and by the same exact product. Thank you so much forjoining us. Markets continuing to suffer because of coronavirus. Banks are down almost 4 and have hit their lowest point since 2009. There are real fears that the virus could spark a recession. Oil prices are also on the slide for the same reason. Thats all the business news. The duke and duchess of sussex have taken part in one of their last official engagements before they quit royal life later this month. Good afternoon, welcome to bbc newsroom live. Annita mcveigh. The Health Secretary, matt hancock, says the government is working with supermarkets to ensure that people staying at home because of coronavirus can be supplied with food. He told the bbcs question Time Programme that he was confident supplies would not run down. But the bbcs Business Editor says that a supermarket executive told him they havent heard from the government directly and that staff are working round the clock to keep shelves stocked. The Prime Minister spoke person says they have met with supermarket bodies to discuss Food Supplies. The total number of coronavirus is the treatment cases is 116. A woman in her 70s is the first person to die appeared she was being treated in reading. More than 140 nationals are stranded in a cruise ship after seven passengers developed flu like symptoms. This report is from our reporter. Royal berkshire nhs trust say the woman whos died was in her 70s. Shed been in and out of hospital in reading for other Health Problems when she tested positive for coronavirus on wednesday. 0bviously, our sympathies are very much with the victim and their family. But the situation is pretty much as it has been in the sense that we are still in the contain phase. Now our scientists and medical advisers are making preparations for the delay phase. More details of the cases in the uk have now emerged. There are 45 people being treated in isolation at home. So far, 18 out of the overall total have fully recovered, but the source of infection in ten cases remain unexplained. Alder hey hospital in liverpool has confirmed a child there has covid 19. Its not known how old the patient is and doctors say children appear to be more resistant to the virus. Meanwhile, off the coast of california, 140 british people are among passengers stuck on a cruise ship which is having to have coronavirus testing kits airlifted in after two people travelling on a separate cruise on the ship last month tested positive. I dont see anybody Walking Around that appears sick. There may be some, if there are, they must be in, in the medical area. Nobody is Walking Around sneezing or coughing. Now, people are, im sure, a little anxious, but nobody has gone screaming mad yet. Back home, speaking on question time last night, the Health Secretary matt hancock addressed concerns of panic buying causing shortages because of growing fears over the outbreak. The government has supplies of the key things that are needed, and within the food supply, we are absolutely confident that people will, that there wont be a problem there. And crucially, we are working with the supermarkets to make sure that if people are self isolating, then will be able to get the food and supplies that they need. And as hospitals come under increasing pressure as the number of cases continues to rise, Officials Say people with less severe symptoms will be asked to take care of themselves at home. Jon donnison, bbc news. And there are still questions over whether a vaccine will be ready in time to help deal with this outbreak. The chief scientific officer, sir patrick vallance, has said that he doesnt think its likely. I dont think we will get the vaccine outbreak. Something in time and at scale for this outbreak, that said, there have been remarkable changes in the ability to make vaccines and discovered them just in the last few years. So things have progressed much more quickly than they would have done in the past and it is not unreasonable to assume that we will end up with a vaccine. And we may do so in a year, 18 months, which is remarkable when you considerjust a few years ago it would have taken 20 years to do that. That with the chief scientific officer. That with the chief scientific officer. A leading supermarket executive has told the bbc he is baffled by Health Secretary Matt Hancocks comments that the government was working with retailers to ensure Food Supplies are uninterrupted by the coronavirus. Lets find out more about that now with our Business Editor simonjack. Good morning. Good afternoon, in fa ct. Good morning. Good afternoon, in fact. You were travelling to work this morning when you got a phone call from this executive. What did they say to you . They were watching question time last night when the Health Secretary said that we are working with Food Retailers to ensure that they can get food to those who choose to self isolate. They were so baffled by that they we re they were so baffled by that they were moved to contact me and say we do not know what they are talking about we have had no conversations. They said that they made that up. I called other rival supermarkets and they also said that they did not recognise those comments that the government had conversations with them to provide food to those who self isolate. In the intervening time, iam self isolate. In the intervening time, i am told that the same person who contacted me said actually we definitely have now been in touch. I think there are a couple of important things. First, what they are saying there. Even though these conversations have not happened, there are no questions of food shortages. In the words of one executive, things like paths and teen foods have gone through the roof and while they are keeping up with demand, it is a challenge to get them on the shelves. Food is not going to run out and people should shop normally, but they said they did not recognise these comments by the secretary. Spokesperson said that the government has met with food business bodies. Those are two different things. A couple of the supermarket said that they have had overarching meetings to look at the general preparedness for food shortages, logistics etc. But on the specific point that matt hancock was making that they have been working with retailers to make sure they can get food to those who want to self isolate if that becomes a big problem, they say those conversations did not happen. While it is true that there have been some overarching meetings between government and industry on a general level, this idea about how do we get food to people who self isolate. And another person i spoke to they said i delivery, could you do online delivery . They said that it makes up 67 of the entire market. We cannot just buy new vans overnight. 6 to 7 . They say that is going to be a major percent. 0nline delivery is not the answer to self isolation. When we spoke earlier today you said that the supermarkets were saying that the supermarkets were saying that they are putting into place brexit plans in terms of trying to get the food supply into supermarkets. Because people have been stocking up so. That is right. They say they are working round the clock. And we are indeed bringing off the shelf plans that we put in place Staffing Levels, new processes that we put in place for the interruptions we put in place of a no deal brexit. They are. Having said that, another supermarket said we have seen a spike in demand, but they are operating very much within tolerable limits. I think the question, the message we have to get across is that there is no food shortages. There is a logistical problem with getting food on the shelves in some places. You have to factor in human psychology, etc etc. Going back to the initial part, where do you think this mismatch of what the Health Secretary was saying and what you were being told where did that come from . It comes from the fact that the Health Secretary said we were talking with retailers and retailers are saying we have not. When i spoke to another source they said that this reminds them of they said that this reminds them of the time when michael gove announced i have met with retailers, this was before a potential new deal brexit, and they are prepared for a no deal brexit. A no deal brexit. There isa brexit. A no deal brexit. There is a slight tension between what the government is saying. Thank you very much. The vast majority of people who contract coronavirus will recover quickly and will not need treatment, they will experience flu like symptoms. In children seem to be even less. Here is the assessment of the risk. How deadly is the coronavirus . It is a really simple question, but the answer is actually quite elusive. If you look at confirmed cases and deaths, you get a figure of 3. 4 dying. That is between three and four in every hundred people. But that number is actually quite ropey. Some of these patients are being treated who could still die. It makes the virus seem more deadly, at the same time there is a huge number of mild cases going unnoticed. That could mean the death rate is lower. When this is all taken into account by scientists it is estimated it is 1 , one and 100 people dying. That is higher than a typical flu season. Which kills one in a thousand people. 0r0. 1 . Doesnt the flu kill more people . Yes, it does. Around about half a Million People every year. While the coronavirus has killed just over 3000. The reason is that the flu infects hundreds of millions of people every year, while coronavirus is onlyjust taking off. If the number soars, the deaths will too. When it starts spreading more wildly who should be more worried . This data is based on china, it suggests the death rate is quite low through to middle age. But over the age of 50, the deaths go up. As we get older, our immune systems get weaker and our bodies are more frail. This puts us at more risk. There is a dangerfor people already sick. If you are struggling with a weak heart or lungs, your body is less able to fight off infection. There is an interesting difference between men and women. It could be down to the differences in the immune system or the fact that men are more likely to smoke that explains why men have a higher death rate than women. There is still uncertainty of all these figures. Remember for most people coronavirus will be a mild infection. A reminder of the latest lines coming from the government saying that the uk is still in the containment phase, but it is highly likely that the infection was spread ina likely that the infection was spread in a significant way and officials are accelerating well, delay phase of the governments planned. The Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the cobra Civil Committee on monday. We are also hearing. 12 people aboard a nile cruise ship have coronavirus, according to egypts health ministry. State television said the ship was heading from aswan to luxor. Until now, egypt had just three cases of the virus. You can keep up to date with all the developments in the symptoms to watch out for on the bbc. We will say goodbye now to viewers on bbc two. Supporters of the home secretary, priti patel, have signed a letter in the Daily Telegraph after a series of bullying allegations against her. They describe her as a tough, assertive leader who has never crossed a line. Among those signing the letter, is the former head of the charity commission, william shawcross, and conservative election adviser sir lynton crosby. 0ur Political Correspondent Jonathan Blake has more. The signatories to this letter arent exactly household names, i have to say, you mentioned a couple of them in the introduction, there is also a handful of conservative peers. But they do all say that they have worked with or alongside priti patel some a point and to give you a flavour for the letter says, we do not recognise a picture of what has been painted a priti patel this week. The letter goes on she is certainly a tough, assertive and effective leader but even under extreme pressure, shes never crossed a line or lost her temper. And it goes on to say that it is right that good ministers cannot be brought down by smears and gossip. And that is clearly what the home secretary herself is hoping. Showing no intention of resigning or leaving her post. And indeed, earlier this week at Prime Ministers questions, borisjohnson gave her his explicit backing saying and i quote, he was sticking by her. Nevertheless, priti patel is under investigation for accusations against her of bullying which she denies by the Cabinet Office. They are looking into whether she has broken the ministerial code and there is also the prospect of an employment tribunal in a few months time. As the former top official at the home office sir Philip Rutten is taking legal action against the government for constructive dismissal. And that comes around we could be in the situation for a lot of accusations made through Anonymous Sources in the media could well be made in detail and in public. As that Legal Process plays out. But for now, as i say, some backing for the home secretary at the end of what has been a very difficult few days for her. That quotes that you mentioned said thatis that quotes that you mentioned said that is vital for democracy that good ministers cannot be brought down by smears and gossip. But also vital for democracy, many would argue, that these claims are investigated and give detailed there, jonathan, about the investigation that is going on. Is that going to satisfy people though, do you think . Well, there has been accusations by the labour party and others that this investigation by the Cabinet Office cannot be properly independent. Because it is overseen by michael gove who is the cabinet minister in charge of that office. And he is one of the many government ministers who have defended staunchly priti patel in public in recent days. Nevertheless, it will be carried out by officials in that office and will come at the government insists, be a thorough investigation which will establish whether the ministerial code has been broken. Well have to wait and see what the results of that will be, we dont have a time frame for it from the government. But depending on what it comes up with and what the report that is handed to the Prime Minister says, that will, to a large extent, determine the fate of priti patel. But in the meantime, we will have this ongoing debate with claim and counterclaim from those who believe they have genuine grievances and accusations to make against the home secretary and painting a picture of a pattern of behaviour, countered by others, supporters of hers who claim that there are forces at work here and a Concerted Campaign to brief against her. Because they dont agree with her politically. The headlines on bbc news. I am very pleased with the news. I am happy that the reporting restrictions were finally lifted. And the whole world is now hearing the news that Sheikh Maktoum did kidnap two of his daughters. And this is now official and no longer an allegation. This is something you saw up close because you were on the boat with latifa in 2018 when she tried to escape to buy. She was taken when she tried to escape dubai. What was that like . When that happens it was terrifying. Its probably one of the scariest experiences ive ever had. The boat was stormed by indian commandos who had machine guns they were threatening to shoot us, it was extremely scary. And obviously afterwards latifa was dragged away kicking and screaming. Her pleas for asylum were ignored. And after that myself and the rest of the crew were kidnapped as well. Since then, Sheikh Maktoum has said that what happened was that she was effectively being rescued and taken home. What did she say to you at that time when you were on the boat together . When she was taken . What were her words about what was going on . No, she was repeating that she is seeking political asylum and they were ignoring her. And obviously her last words were, dont take me back. Id rather you shoot me here. She would have rather been shot there than go back . That mustve been distressing. Yes, extremely. Have you had any contact with her at all . No, the last time i saw her was on the boat. If you had not had been there and been able to leave and tell the story, do you think we would even know what had happened . Probably not. I assume dubai would have managed to cover this. They have tried very hard so far. They have issued different kinds of statements saying that latifa is happy with her family at home. They tried to cover it up. But it is no longer possible after this ruling has, you know, was made public. That was a friend of princess latifa.
