Good morning. Its march seventh. A Rescue Operation is under way after an avalanche has hit the popular ski resort of tignes in the french alps. Several people are thought to be buried underneath. Initial reports suggest there may be many people missing. Our correspondent has the latest. This is an emerging picture. People are beginning to tweet, eyewitnesses are beginning to tweet, eyewitnesses are describing the scene as the Avalanche Engulfing skiers and it is thought many people have been caught up thought many people have been caught up in this accident. Rescue workers and sniffer dogs have been deployed but apparently conditions they are or that of pure visibility and what that means is that helicopters have not been able to go up so no Rescue Workers are going up into the skies and as you know, that is a key way in which these sort of accidents are dealt with so clearly some hindrance to the rescue efforts. There was a previous incident last february in tignes. Yes, judging the Holiday Season tignes. Yes, judging the Holiday Season there was tignes. Yes, judging the Holiday Season there was an tignes. Yes, judging the Holiday Season there was an avalanche in the very same region. For snowboarders had been lead Off Piste Ideal instructor and four of them were buried and killed in an avalanche. That is serious concern there has been a loss of life today as there was back in february. Looking at the pictures, it is difficult to get information, but it does look, seeing that image with those difficult conditions, not much visibility, the avalanche has actually hit the piste. What do you know about the location and what triggered it . No information yet as to what triggered it, that will be pa rt to what triggered it, that will be part of the investigation, but what we do understand is that our measures taken to warn skiers and snowboarders what the conditions might be. The skill goes from one to five and this morning there was a warning issued scale. The skill was that for meaning there was a chance of an avalanche the scale was at four. You can see the lifts which would suggest it is the main piste so Rescue Workers are probably taken by surprise and trying to deal with this emerging picture. Were feeling that this will be Avalanche Hit was actually a blue slope, so one of the more basic slopes for skiers of lesser ability potentially. Lets ring in glen, he joins us from tignes. You took the pictures we be looking at, what have you seen . I took some pictures. There are between 20 and 30 people. Its still unclear if there are victims are not or not. We came back to the centre of the resort so its a good sign but we still dont know. Were looking at your pictures. The picture we are looking at at the moment shows people on the slope. Conditions of very low visibility. You were saying about 20 to 30 people on the slope. Yeah, this is according to the first report and new sources. We dont know. It is interesting, the fact that it happened on the slope is interesting. It happened on the blue slope. The picture that we are seeing, we can slope. The picture that we are seeing, we can see slope. The picture that we are seeing, we can see much evidence of emergency services. How quickly did you take that picture after it had happened . I took it around 10 13am local time. The people who arrived did a good job. What were they able to do . How did they mounted the rescue with conditions as they are . They had to ta ke conditions as they are . They had to take the chairlift to go up to do the rescue mission. Thank you very much forjoining us. The latest on the breaking news coming out of tignes, an Avalanche Hitting the french ski resort. We can go to our correspondent Lucy Williamson in paris. This is as like a very serious incident. What is the latest you are hearing . It certainly sounded that way when it broke an hour or so ago. Eyewitnesses reported they saw a crowded slope, the avalanche is sweeping across the slope, perhaps taking with that large numbers of people but one of my colleagues at the bbc has now spoken to the team responsible for Piste Security and safety in the resort of tignes and they have told him that the operation in fact is over. The Rescue Operation is over. They have not found any casualties so they have not found any casualties so if that is the case, that will make everybody extremely happy. Relieved because those early reports we re very relieved because those early reports were very worrying indeed. That would be extraordinary if the avalanche went across a slope where there were lots of people. How could that have been . What are you hearing about what actually triggered the avalanche and how much there was that actually went across that slope . It would be extraordinary. The earlier reports we got word of lots of people on the slope, great that lots of people were buried underneath. Mounted police said they we re very underneath. Mounted police said they were very worried and their sending a number of people opted the slope, local Ski Companies were getting involved. There was concern for an avalanche to hit a family slope like this on a crowded day would be immensely concerning but these new reports coming in say that it may have passed over the slope without taking anyone with it. One of the witnesses, i spoke to my colleagues here who said because the avalanche passed across the slope are not damaged, it might have done less harm than if it had swept down the slope and we know that Mountain Guides were out there this Morning Setting of Preventative Avalanche is to try and reduce the threat avalanches. There have been bad conditions and other sports have been closed. This one had been managed and kept open. Other slopes. 0fficials thought that it wasnt but it may be the case that it hasnt done the harm that was feared just an hour ago. Lets hope so. Feared just an hour ago. Lets hope so. Well stay on the situation and keep you updated. Facebooks procedures for Vetting Content on its pages have been strongly criticised after a bbc investigation found it was failing to remove inappropriate and sexualised images of children. After reporting 100 images, just 18 we re after reporting 100 images, just 18 were taken down. Facebook said it has removed all images against it standards. The nspcc described it as appalling. The rules are simple. Facebook says it removes nudity or sexually suggestive content. But our investigation last year found paedophiles using secret groups to swap obscene images of children. We informed the police, and this man was sent to prison forfour years. Facebook told us it had improved its systems, so we put that to the test. But we still found sexualised pictures of children, and obscene comments from men. We reported 100 posts that we felt broke facebooks own guidelines. Only 18 were taken down. 82 images stayed up. They didnt breach facebooks Community Standards. I find it very disturbing. I find that content unacceptable. Im concerned that thats been brought to facebooks attention, and some of those images have not been dealt with and addressed. And this report, this investigation, it casts grave doubt on the effectiveness of the measures that facebook has in place. Facebook asked us to send them examples of what we had reported, so we did. The company then reported us to the police. Facebook issued a statement saying. But, even now, groups with inappropriate images and comments about children remain on facebook. Questions about how the company moderates content wont go away. Angus crawford, bbc news. We are hearing that there were no deaths caused today by the avalanche in tignes so that is an extraordinary outcome from what had seemed to be an awful situation initially, that an avalanche had been triggered over a blue slope in tignes, 20 to 30 people skiing on it at the time and there were fears that people may have been buried but amazingly, no deaths were caused, everybody has been accounted for so a good ending to what at first seemed like a pretty awful situation. Back to the facebook story and the 100 images being reported to the spit by the bbc and just 18 were removed by facebook. With me is claire lilley, head of 0nline safety at the nspcc. What do you think about this . We think its absolutely appalling. It violates the terms of every international and uk based argument. Agreement that says that have signed up to in terms of their appetite to clamp down on this kind of material and it makes you wonder, what do they consider inappropriate and offensive . What are their Community Standards . Lets talk about the images that were picked up by the bbc and the bbc used the Report Button to put these images back to facebook, effectively to test the system, so there are pages explicitly for men with a sexual interest in children. There are pictures of children under 16 in obscene poses with obscene comments. The groups were called things like hot x rated schoolgirls and a still image from what appears to be a video of child abuse. They have said 32 of those did not breach Community Standards. Can you understand potentially why that might be . If you look at pictures of people under 16 in highly sexualised posers, is that a matter of perception . They have a commitment to the move that kind of comment but theyre not taking steps. We do lots of things to protect our children when they walk out our front doors in the morning but the protection are getting online is nowhere near as good as the protection were giving them off line and we think Big Companies like facebook should be doing much more. Theres also the rights of the victims to be considered, the children in those images who have been victimised every time an image is being looked at or every time a paedophile is talking about their image. As the race of the children who are looking at their content which they now we find upsetting we know they find upsetting. Why do you think facebook does not take the approach you are taking and have these guidelines saying the images dont breach Community Standards . It makes me wonder if the threshold for Trinity Standards is too high but its also about reporting and having enough people in the moderation teams to deal with support adequately and highlight when it comes to Child Protection, the needs and rights of the child should be front and centre and not any other issues like sometimes they have told us in private discussions about how it is important to raise awareness of issues, we think the rates of victims far outweigh that and i think the crucial thing here is that there is nobody holding them to account, they are playing by their own rules because the system of Self Regulation is one that has been in place for many years. They say when the bbc said us the images, we reported them to the Child Protection centre and the we also reported the images. What do you make of the fact that the bbc journalists who raised this were reported to police . A serious Investigative Journalist like Angus Crawford is reporting it which makes it more likely thatjoe public, it would potentially put us Off Reporting its i dont think it was a sensible move on facebooks part. It might have been part of the legal obligation so it may put people Off Reporting. We are long past the point of giving facebook chance after chance. I sat in this chair before talking about this very issue. Self regulation is not working and we would really be hoping that the government, who announced last week a green paper on child internet safety, will give due consideration to the needs for a new body with appropriately good para meters body with appropriately good parameters to hold companies to account because at the minute that is not credibility and no transparency about the actions they are taking in order to protect children. An extra £320 million for new School Places in england will be confirmed in tomorrows budget. It will go towards the governments existing free school programme, and could be used to support the opening of any new Grammar Schools. Labour has criticised the move, for failing to address Funding Pressures faced by schools. But theresa may insists its part of her plan to make a good education accessible to every child. Well, of course we have protected the core schools budget. But, crucially, what were announcing is £500 million of investment in schools, £320 million of which will be new schools. That will create around 70,000 new School Places. What this is about is ensuring that people can know that their child will have a good school place, and all the opportunities that that provides for them. 0ur Political Correspondent alex forsyth is in westminster. John tomsett is the headteacher at Huntington Secondary School in york. Is this being seen as a good thing . This money has been set aside for School Places and we know that any School Places and we know that any school that opens at the moment has to bea school that opens at the moment has to be a free school so that is funded by Central Government and outside of local government control but theresa may says a portion of this could be selective schools. She doesnt use a word that effectively means Grammar Schools. This is a moving forward with the promise she made in september to lift the ban on new Grammar Schools opening which has attracted a lot of criticism from the labour party and other critics who say this money should be spent on existing State Schools who are struggling with class sizes and are struggling with class sizes and a lack of teachers and infrastructure. Across the political spectrum, there are those who are ideological opposed to Grammar Schools because they say could create a 2 tier Education System and does nothing to improve social mobility. Theresa mays argument that she makes again today is that children should have a good academic education matter what their background and shes announcing alongside that funding, free schemes for children from their backgrounds to go to selective schools so shes trying to address some problems saying it would be Grammar Schools of the past, it will be a Focus On Where Education Standards are low at the moment is to improve them but now that this is going to attract a lot of criticism. Were joined werejoined by were joined by the werejoined by the headteacher of Huntington School in york. What do you think about money being put aside for new schools . you think about money being put aside for new schools . I welcome any new education but in terms of what type of school we need, i would argue strongly there is no Evidence Base to say that Grammar Schools and selection improve the lot of disadvantaged students, which is about just managing families disadvantaged students, which is aboutjust managing families which the government say they want to support. The government is showinge commitment to spending money on education. To you, is that a welcome thing . How do you see it . Im delighted it is more money but in terms of school budgets, if you go back to 2010 and the comprehensive Spending Review from george osborne, i predicted then at our school would be to make cuts of 770,000 to our budget. Weve made those cuts, we are in the black for the next three yea rs, are in the black for the next three years, but if we just kept up with inflation is the 2010, id have £800,000 more in our budget a year so £800,000 more in our budget a year so its des hart a little bit when you hear people and politicians claiming they have protected core funding in education it does hurt a little bit. In my experience, thats not true. We had ten fewer teachers he let huntington than in 2007 when i started here here at huntington, with the same number of students. Bite back thats because the £800,000 was cutting your budget because of inflation. Because of the cuts weve had. George osborne, for instance, cut 80 of our reckoning Capital Budget so we used to get £160,000 a year to get our budget going and that was cut to 28,001 fell swoop five years ago. Schools are finding it very hard to make ends meet. 0ur are finding it very hard to make ends meet. Our most expensive outlay is on staffing. Were being asked to save £3 billion over the rest of this parliament, youve got to start cutting staff. What impact does that have on Pupil Numbers in classrooms and also morale . You can imagine, cant you . For and also morale . You can imagine, cant you . For instance if you are a teacher and your teaching an extra three students in your class and you have ten classes that you see several times a week, thats 30 students, your teaching a whole class more you are teaching. The pressure on teachers just gets greater and greater. The thing the government really has to focus on is attracting high quality people to the profession because as secondary numbers grow, you can see the balls coming through from Primary School in terms of numbers, we will have new skills you can see the bulge. We go back to the Grammar School thing. If you want to improve grammar thing. If you want to improve grammar education for every student in a community, where youll get places where they have Grammar Schools, overall the students do better. Kent, for instance, the stu d e nts better. Kent, for instance, the students do worse overall in areas where they Grammar Schools and it is good data to show that so my concern would be there is no really good evidence that Grammar Schools improve the lot of all the students in the area where they exist. Thank you very much, john thomson, headteacher at Huntington Secondary School. Were hearing that eon is raising fuel prices by 26 from april. They say the rise is needed because of the escalating costs of governance Government Schemes prices are going up Government Schemes prices are going up by Government Schemes prices are going up by 8. 8 from the 26th of april. Last year, npower raised theirs by 9. 8 . The government is facing the prospect of another defeat later today, In The House Of Lords, over the process of leaving the European Union. Peers are to vote on an amendment to the brexit bill, which calls for parliament to be given a meaningful vote on a final deal. The Prime Ministers spokesman has said in the last few minutes that theresa may once the legislation to pass. Theresa may is facing another great hulking defeat In The House Of Lords tonight in giving parliament effectively a veto over the final deal that theresa may strikes. Downing street are adamant that to do so would fatally compromise mrs mays Negotiating Hand because it would encourage the eu to give theresa may a bad deal in the knowledge that mps would probably rejected which means she would have to go crawling back into the Negotiating Room, begging for a better deal, but it might mean that if she came away with no deal and mps rejected that she would have to stay in the eu but the signs are that she could be in difficulties in the lords tonight with even some conservative peers poised to vote against including the former pensions minister. If we want to incentivise the pensions minister. If we want to ince ntivise the People Pensions minister. If we want to incentivise the people that are trying to negotiate the best possible deal for the people of our country, should we not ensure that they have a really good incentive to get a good deal so that it will pass through parliament and will be a cce Pta Ble Through Parliament and will be acceptable to the british people . Otherwise, how do we make sure that the terms on which we leave i going to be acceptable . The terms on which we leave i going to be acceptable . The hope of theresa may is that if she is defeated you tonight she can reverse that decision in the commons then the decision is, will peers stand their ground . The decision is, will peers Stand Theirground . I the decision is, will peers stand their ground . I put it to the Labour Leader in the lords angela smith that the laws would tamely climb down. I dont think anyone would regard a House Of Lords as team at the moment, we do what we think is right and if you look at last weeks fought on the eu nationals and uk nationals try to protect movement in europe, the vote increased during the debate when the arguments were discussed. We dont know what the vote will be like tonight. What i heard from the House Of Commons is when these issues go back if we win tonight, they actually listen to the arguments that are made. Significantly, the former tory leader William Hague today suggested one way for theresa may to are difficulties in parliament would be to call a snap general election. Downing street have dismissed the idea but this morning the labour Leaderjeremy Corbyn stressed that he would not be frightened of a general election sooner rather than later. We would do our best. Nobody knows the are, theyll the outcome of an election but we know we have a strong moral case for the people and the kind of country we could be. Strong moral case for the people and the kind of country we could hem could also strengthen theresa mays hand in negotiations with the eu but at the moment Downing Street are saying she has no plans to change her mind about calling an early general election. Lets return now to tomorrows Spring Budget. Our Business Correspondent rachel home has been at what might be inside the red box. Roll up, roll up, get your popcorn, bags a seat tomorrow its your last chance to watch the Spring Budget because from next year its been moved to the autumn, which as a season is less about new shoots of growth, and more gloomy forecasts, but surely the chancellor knows what hes doing. This Spring Budget will set out the governments plans for the economy based on the latest forecasts from the office for budget responsibility, telling us how much money the government has borrowed and how strongly, or not they think the economy will grow. In november the 0br predicted gdp growth for 2017 of 1. 4 , the signs are that that Growth Figure might be revised upwards to 2 after better than expected figures in the back half of 2016. Higher growth means theres more money in the treasurys coffers. But will that mean the chancellor will start spending. He says no and that he wants to make sure the country is prepared for leaving the eu. Mr hammonds under pressure to increase public spending, especially on social care, but business also say they need the government to invest to support the economy. Weve asked a few key figues in the Business World whats on their budget wish list. First up the federation of Small Business no surprise where they want the chancellor to put his money. First and foremost, not surprisingly, Business Rates, which no longer reflect the current way businesses work in the modern environment and for the Small Businesses that are facing some massive increepses following the revaluation, it is clear that they must have some additional help to overcome the problems that theyre faced. 0nce hes dealt with Business Rates the tuc has a few requests. The Prime Minister promised that this would be a government on the side of Working People, so the chancellor has to prove just that. And he can do it by lifting the Public Sector pay cap, by reversing George Osbornes cuts on universal credit and by doing something about the Living Standards crisis that is still a real problem for Working People in britain. So how would he pay for all that . Well, the message from the pensions sector is a clear hands off when bank robber Willie Sutton was asked why he kept robbing banks, he famously said, because thats where the money is why does the treasury keep coming back and salami slicing at pensions . Because it cost them £48 billion a year. We expect this week to see in the budget an announcement on the money purchase annual allowance, a restriction on people who have taken money out of pension pots and want to put money back subsequently. What would we like to see from the government this time around . Really we would like them to just leave pensions alone for once. In the long term we think we need reform to the pension system, but this is not the time to do it. And we cant discuss business without mentioning brexit back to the tucs frances 0grady, who has this advice. I think the government knows that brexit is that biggest challenge we are facing forjobs and industries in the uk and if it is serious about getting us match fit, we need big investment, support for manufacturing but also investment in Public Services and in peoples pay packets, thats the best way to ensure the economy can weather the storm. Tomorrow, Phillip Hammond will brush off his red briefcase for his first, and our last Spring Budget. After that its an Autumn Budget and a spring statement, but, whatever you call it, what really matters are the figures. Rachel, thank you. Full coverage of the budget here on bbc news tomorrow. Now lets get the weather. A cold start up and down the country but bright with some sunshine, it may be the last of the cold mornings for the foreseeable future, we will see some mild conditions up from the south. We may be seeing a different side to Arsene Wenger hes asked for a lucid rage from his players. The players are ready to fight, but it is always a mixture of a little bit success or a little bit belief, you know . It drops a little bit. I think we live in the world of small margins and if you drop off a little bit on the belief side on the confidence front it looks always like you do not want to fight. These players, i100 believe that these players want to do well and want to win. There have been rumours of disharmony among the arsenal players, although wenger has denied that there was a Training Ground argument between striker Alexis Sanchez and his team mates. Theres also ongoing speculation over his future as the clubs boss, and his opposite number at bayern has sympathy for him. In ourjob we have to live with critics sometimes but the most important thing is to be able to consider the right critics and i think our manager with a lot of experience and more experienced than others and im sure he will be able to react and to manage this moment, anticipation, this situation that can happen to every manager, so critics, is normal. They have certainly narrowed the scope of this order to some extent but it will face legal challenges again, and we have seen that in some reaction, the Attorney General of the state of new york said he is reviewing this for the possibility of taking a legal challenge that it is narrower. Is the administration displaying more pragmatism . To a degree it is. I think there was a recognition on the pa rt think there was a recognition on the part ofjudd Trump Administration that the first version of this order was a political disaster and there has been an effort to give a period of ten days before this new order comes in effect, hoping to avoid the chaos we sought at american airports when the initial order was announced and people were barred from returning to the us if they were citizens of these countries. You get a sense the administration is settling down . Initially so much was merging and going wrong for them and things seem to be calmer. Possibly. A conservative backbencher is attempting to reverse Government Plans to end the so called dubs scheme under which unaccompanied Migrant Children who dont have relatives in the uk Are Given Refuge here. The mp heidi allen is tabling an amendment to legislation going through the House Of Commons today. Last month the government announced that it was limiting the scheme to 350 children. There had been hopes initially that it would affect 3000 children. Our home affairs correspondent, june kelly reports. Amirs family home is in the war ravaged syrian city of aleppo. He is one of the Child Migrants, helped by the charity safe passage, who came to the uk alone under the dubs scheme. He is now being fostered by a british family, and a top priority is to improve his english. Because he is under 18, we are protecting his identity and have re voiced his words. He left syria two years ago, when he was 15. It was like a horror film, everybody scared. The only choice is to wait for death or leave. He says it is sad that the scheme which brought him to the uk is to end. It was my choice from the beginning to come here. In syria, we learnt about the uk. It is a democratic country that is really great, and protects minority groups. The conservative mp heidi allen recently visited refugees with yvette cooper. Today, in the House Of Commons, heidi allen will be attempting to reverse Government Plans to end the dubs scheme. She wants local authorities to say how much Spare Capacity they have to resettle unaccompanied young migrants, and then ministers to make this information public. If the offers of capacity and goodwill are there, we as a nation should be taking up those offers. The dubs scheme we have chosen at this stage to end it neatly at the end of the financial year. This humanitarian crisis will not end at the end of the financial year, so nor should our compassion. Refugees are welcome here last year, 900 unaccompanied Child Migrants were allowed into the uk. The majority do have family here. The Home Office Said that some councils were being stretched by the demands placed on them. New figures show Police Forces in england and wales received one call every 90 seconds about a missing person last year. Thats an increase of 15 on the previous year. Police chiefs believe the ageing population could be one reason for the rise. David rhodes reports. Steve was a lovely, quiet lad. Margaret cooper is still searching for her son, steven, nine years on, after he disappeared from his home in huddersfield. He was last seen in scotland, but despite police searches, he has never been found. Thats the worst thing, is not knowing. If youve got a body, because hes died, you can have a grave or whatever, and you can put flowers there, and you can grieve. When youve no idea whats happened to them, theres just nothing. Youre in limbo. On average last year, 370 people went missing every day, with Police Forces receiving over 300,000 calls, a rise of 15 on the previous year. The majority of forces say they are dealing with more missing people. I think the general public are more aware around people gone missing. I think our practices have improved, which again will account for a rise in the numbers that we are recording. There is no one reason why people go missing, but there are some common themes. Where its an adult thats gone missing, it can be a sign of Mental Health issues, of relationship breakdown, of disability. Where its a child or a young person, its often a sign that theres something wrong in the home. Whatever the cause, for those left behind, there are only memories to cling to, and questions that remain unanswered. In a moment a summary of the Business News this hour, but first, the headlines on bbc Newsroom Live. An avalanche has hit the french ski resort of tignes. Reports say there are no deaths. Childrens charities have strongly condemned facebook after a bbc investigation found it failed to remove some content featuring sexualised images of children. The government is to pledge an extra cash boost for School Places in england, which could be used for a new Grammar Schools. Labour saint schools still face millions of pounds in cuts. In the Business News the Chief Executive of the new owner of vauxhall and 0pel has said that he will not be shutting plants. Well have more on that shortly. The Big Six Energy provider aeon has said it will increase its dual fuel standard variable tariffs by more than 10 next month. They said 2. 5 million customers will be affected by the increases which come into effect at the end of april. Retailers have seen their first quarterly fall in non food sales in more than five years, according to the british retail consortium. Non food sales in the uk fell by 0. 2 , the first decline since November 2011 in the four weeks from 29 january to 25 february. Thank you forjoining us this morning. The new owner of vauxhall and 0pel has been speaking to the bbc from the Geneva Motor Show about the future of the plants in the uk. Carlos tavares, psa Chief Executive, says that plants are unlikely to close because they are busy, highlighting that vauxhall is operating at 82 capacity. Our Business Editor simon jack started by asking him why he thought he could succeed in europe where General Motors had failed. Lets be fair, it is fair to recognise that a big part of the turnaround has already been implemented successfully by the 0pel Vauxhall Team with the support of General Motors, so we should recognise that some of this work has already been done. That could have been achieved last year had not the brexit happened and the consequences on the pound, so now we have to com plete on the pound, so now we have to complete the turnaround, to consolidate the turnaround of 0pel Vauxhall and bring the Operating Profit Margin to an appropriate level for the company to be able to generate positive figure flow. To increase Operating Margins you need to cut costs . How will you do that . Mostly by synergy between the european plants, both of them have most of their business in europe so they understand the Customer Needs of europe, they have a Strong Manufacturing footprint and a strong sourcing footprint. We believe that the competitiveness of psa is much better than 0pel Vauxhall so if we share more assets are features, systems, we will be able to improve the profitability of 0pel Vauxhall, not forgetting that is a lot of talent and passion by employees and we will give them the appropriate benchmarks in terms of manufacturing so benchmarks in terms of manufacturing so they can improve their efficiency, so by having this best practice sharing we believe that 0pel Vauxhall can improve their efficiency. So you will have new internal benchmarks say if you have this you will be ok or you will close, so after current production commitments expire it will be every plant for themselves . No, it will be pa rt plant for themselves . No, it will be part of a family where they can Work Together and used the best of all the family members, it means you are stronger because you can look at people who have done a greatjob and can copy and paste what they have done and become stronger yourself, because a denser family can compete ina more because a denser family can compete in a more efficient way. Thai surgeons have performed Emergency Surgery on a turtle after they discovered it had eaten nearly a thousand coins. The operation on the sea turtle is thought to have been the first of its kind and could have saved her life. Caroline davies reports. The next time you throw a coin into waterfor luck, take a look at who you might be throwing it at. This turtle was found floating strangely in her pond. Vets werent sure what was wrong until they carried out a 3g scan and found this a pile of old coins she had eaten sitting in her stomach. It was so large it wasnt only stopping her swimming properly but had caused the underside of her shell to crack. Translation this is a female turtle that weighs about 59kg and the coins all together weigh 5kg, which accounts for about 10 of her weight. The 25 year old turtle had eaten a total of 915 coins in several currencies. Vets worked for seven hours to remove each one. Throwing money onto turtles is thought to bring you long life in thailand. The Chief Surgeon said she was upset when they discovered what had caused the turtles pain. Translation when i found out, i felt angry that humans, whether or not they meant to do it or if they did it without thinking, had caused harm to this turtle. The turtle is now recovering in hospital. Its hoped she wont continue to live up to her nickname, 0msin, which in thai means piggybank. In the east African Islands of zanzibar, districts and villages are surrounded by an array of pristine beaches. Water is key for both transportation and economical activities such as fishing. While official drowning figures are not readily available, there is concern that such incidences are on the rise. Now with the help of the Royal NationalLifeboat Institute a local organisation is training young people on survival swimming skills. Sammy awami reports. Training for survival. These girls and boys in the other side of the ocean are part of the programme which is crucial in saving lives in islands where incidences of drowning are not uncommon. It has expanded now beyond survivor swimming. We saw it was an opportunity to educate the community about how to stay safe around water and how to keep their children safe around water because we provide Swimming Instruction but we also provide instruction in the classrooms and the communities on water safety. The programme recruits children between the ages of seven and 1a from the local primary and secondary schools. One of the children i spoke to told me why they appreciate this training. Translation when i grow up i want to be a fisherman. This Swimming Lesson will be very helpful because if you go down to the ocean and a vessel sinks, what will they do if they cannot even float . But for this, lessons will help me a lot. The children attend Training Sessions every day for 1h days and learn a number of skills such as saving others with a stick or rope and floating on their back. One of the things you did not know about me is that i cannot swim. So im joining the class. Some of the young boys here, including me, are very slow learners. But one thing we have in common is that we are not afraid to try. I must admit, i need at least a month to be able to even float. But for these children, in about two weeks time, around 70 will have graduated from this programme and added to the number of rescuers needed in these islands. That brightens your day on a cold day. Peers will continue to debate the bill this afternoon as the Prime Ministers deadline for triggering article 50 edges ever closer. And pigeon patrol the latest idea taking flight to try and tackle Air Pollution in our big cities. Good afternoon. Its tuesday, 7th march. Im joanna gosling. Welcome to bbc Newsroom Live. Childrens charities have strongly condemned facebook after it failed to remove some content featuring sexualised images of children. A bbc investigation found a hundred such images, but after reporting them, only 18 were taken down. Facebook said it had removed all items that were illegal or against its standards. The nspcc described facebooks response as appalling. 0ur correspondent Angus Crawford reports. The National Crime agency says it is necessary for facebook to have robust guidelines in place for dealing with inappropriate content. Earlier i spoke to the head of Online Safety at the ssp nspcc. Earlier i spoke to the head of Online Safety at the ssp nspccw makes you wonder what they consider an appropriate. We do all we can to protect the children when we send a note in the morning but it is nothing like the protection we should be giving them online and facebook should be doing much more. And also the children in these were being victimised to consider and who are being victimised every time someone are being victimised every time someone is looking at their picture are talking about it. We know they find it extremely upsetting because they talk to us at childline every day about it. Why do you think facebook does not take the approach that you are taking and has the guidelines and says that these images dont reach Community Standards . It makes me wonder if the threshold for standards is too high but its also about reporting and having enough people in the moderation teams to deal with support adequately and highlight when it comes to Child Protection, the needs and rights of the child should be front and centre and not any other issues like sometimes they have told us in private discussions about how it is important to raise awareness of issues, we think the rights of victims far outweigh that and i think the crucial thing here is that there is nobody holding them to account, they are playing by their own rules because the system of Self Regulation is one that has been in place for many years. They say when the bbc said us the images, we reported them to the Child Protection centre. What do you make of the fact that the bbc journalists who raised this were reported to police . If a serious Investigative Journalist like Angus Crawford is reporting it and getting that, it more likely that joe public, it likely thatjoe public, you or i, would potentially put us Off Reporting. I dont think it was a sensible move on facebooks part. We are long past the point of giving facebook chance after chance. Ive sat in this chair before talking about this very issue. Self regulation is not working and we would really be hoping that the government, who announced last week a green paper on child internet safety, will give due consideration to the needs for a new body with appropriate powers to hold companies to account because at the minute that is not credibility and no transparency about the actions they are taking in order to protect children. Let me bring you some comments coming out of germany On Brexit Negotiations from the Finance Minister. The main goal is that the remaining 27 nations are kept together. Also saying Brexit Negotiations should be kept together a nyway negotiations should be kept together anyway that there are more benefits to being in the European Union and outside of it. These comments come as we come closer to triggering article 50. Everything is being assessed. The negotiations are being said is said to be complicated and germany is open to new negotiations with britain. Those comments from the german Finance Minister as we approach the start of the Brexit Negotiations. A Rescue Operation has concluded after an avalanche has hit the popular ski resort of tignes in the french alps. There were no casualties. 0n the line is becky bettesworth, who is in the resort town of tignes. Its extraordinary that there was nobody hurt in this. Tell us exactly what happened. Thank goodness everybody is safe because the conditions that year have been extreme out here. It has snowed for 48 hours with exceptionally strong winds so it has been blizzard conditions. The runs were open yesterday and this morning, a group from our party wanted to go out and they went out and in the area where we were, which is tignes, all the lists were closed and all the runs we re lists were closed and all the runs were closed and they had heard that in another area of tignes, there was an avalanche and so everybody was just really scared. There was the sound of sirens and ambulances going past and it was just a horrendous uncertainty of what was going on in extreme conditions. When we gathered, we knew that it was on a blue run, which is not a dangerous piste, it wasnt easy slope and gradient and they had that piste open, that left open, and thats when it happened, so it was really scary and theyve actually just when it happened, so it was really scary and theyve actuallyjust been talking to a Ski Instructor and they all went up there this morning and a p pa re ntly all went up there this morning and apparently there were 200 of them in the search party who were all in a big long line across the piste, searching for casualties and people under the snow. Apparently they were only four people who were affected and then went off in an ambulance and then went off in an ambulance and only one ski that was found in the snow. This avalanche came across the snow. This avalanche came across the piste on the blue run and there was nobody else harmed, but it was a horrible feeling and atmosphere everywhere. The snow is still heavy and the winds have died off and surprisingly, some of the left appear to be open, with skiers going up appear to be open, with skiers going up on the lifts. You would think people might not fancy skiing today after that but thankfully nobody was badly injured and nobody killed. Is it clear how it happened . How an avalanche came across the run like that . Im not sure, to be fair. I think they were quite surprised because it was an open blue run so it is not necessarily in an area that the expected, which i suppose is why they had the lift and run open. I know there was another area in team yesterday afternoon area in tignes. The clause that one, and blue run in a different area. They closed at one. I heard someone say that none of the left would be open this afternoon. Lifts. The tea m open this afternoon. Lifts. The team have hobbies are going to do a huge amount of work to make sure that everything is safe the team have got to. Earlier i asked out Political Correspondent alex forsyth what the significance of this announcement was. This money has been set aside for School Places and we know that any school that opens at the moment has to be a free school so that is funded by Central Government and outside of local government control but theresa may says a portion of this could be selective schools. She doesnt use the word. That effectively means Grammar Schools. This is a moving forward with the promise she made in september to lift the ban on new Grammar Schools opening which has attracted a lot of criticism from the labour party and other critics who say this money should be spent on existing State Schools that are struggling with big class sizes and a lack of teachers and infrastructure. Across the political spectrum, there are those who are ideologically opposed to Grammar Schools because they say could create a two tier Education System and does nothing to improve social mobility. Theresa mays argument that she makes again today is that children should have a good academic education no matter what their background is and shes announcing alongside that funding, free schemes for children from their backgrounds to go to selective schools so shes trying to address some problems saying it would be Grammar Schools of the past, it will be a Focus On Where Education Standards are low at the moment is to improve them but now that this is going to attract a lot of opposition. An anonymous and Inquiry Herod how a man in his 80s who was sexually abused by a nun only told his wife about it last year. Tom is that the inquiry in central london. Weve had a variety of evidence today including the point about the difficulties that former Child Migrants shipped out of the uk often in the 1950s to australia to orphanages often run by religious organisations, the difficulty they have had in getting anyjustice because of the amount of time it has taken, firstly for them to disclose what has happened to them, feeling able to do that, and also getting anybody to listen and believe what has happened to them and that issue of how long the law allows people to bring cases against people might be something that this inquiry looks closely at but in the last hour weve also heard what you might describe as refreshingly different evidence. Ive sat here for six days of her quite a lot of awful and depressing, horrific stories about the way children were treated during this period but todays witness Edward Delaney has also given a horrific story of sexual and physical abuse at the boys town in western australia, run by the christian brothers, a catholic organisation. He told us at one point he was given a pen knife by a family he had stayed with and he took aside one of the brothers who had been tormenting him and said if you lay a finger on me, ill slit your throat with this knife and he said that seems to work and from that point on, his life became easier and that story demonstrates the harshness and the reality of their lives. This witness Edward Delaney has also described how he feels about being sent to australia. He says it was called immigration but he had a different description. We we re but he had a different description. We were a problem for england so to get rid of the problem, they sent us to another country, they kidnapped us to another country, they kidnapped us and sent us to another country. It was their problem and they didnt bother doing anything. Is it like that as a result of what you describe, you do not feel proud to be british . The uk government did nothing to protect you and left you at the mercy of Child Molesters and you consider yourself australian. Yes. When i met my mother for the first time, i was travelling on to passports, a british passport and industrially and passport two passports. After my mother explained what had happened, i use my british passport to come over and i use my british passport to leave england again and when i got back to australia, i cut up my british passport and vowed that i would never want to be associated with the British Government ever again. Edward delaney giving evidence in the last hour. The British Government and is chilean government have both apologised for the way the Child Migrants, thousands of them, we re Child Migrants, thousands of them, were treated australian government. Migrants think the apology is lukewarm. It may be that this inquiry looks at whether they should be given much more significant compensation, financial compensation for the effect this has had on their lives. They are now elderly and it is clear that they are still suffering from their experiences as british Child Migrants in the post war years. A british woman has been rescued by police in the australian state of queensland, after allegedly being held against her will, for more than two months. A 22 year old man from the Northern City of cairns has been charged with several counts of rape and assault. The woman was rescued when Police Stopped her car near the town of mitchell and noticed she was distressed and had serious injuries to herface. We can speak to maxes covering the story for queensland news. What is alleged to have happened . Well the its a remarkable tale, a 22 year old british backpacker left with this man who was originally her boyfriend back injanuary with this man who was originally her boyfriend back in january and with this man who was originally her boyfriend back injanuary and they headed south through queensland. As they travelled, clearly their relationship has broken down. According to police, he became more abusive and more controlling. The allegations are that she was repeatedly raped and repeatedly assaulted. There are charges of strangulation and deprivation of liberty. It was only by chance at a random Police Traffic block on sunday, two days ago local time here, that police happened upon her and notice straightaway she was badly injured, severely traumatised and she told them some of the story. They believed her and they checked their vehicle, which was the white suv and in the back of the vehicle underneath clothes, they found this 22 year old man who has now been charged with assault and rape. Identity is obviously being protected but they do know much about what will happen to her now and how long she had been in australia . Shed been here since 2015 and police say she has now made contact with her family back in liverpool, we understand. 0ne contact with her family back in liverpool, we understand. One of the charges is of course that this man had badly damaged, even destroyed her passport as a way of trying to stop herfrom her passport as a way of trying to stop her from escaping her passport as a way of trying to stop herfrom escaping as a her passport as a way of trying to stop her from escaping as a form her passport as a way of trying to stop herfrom escaping as a form of trapping her in her predicament so shes going to need consular assistance to get a new passport. The High Commissioner for assistance to get a new passport. The High Commissionerfor britain hearing is julia said the High Commissionerfor britain Hearing Isjulia said that she is now getting that assistance. Here in australia. Asenal will have to make Champions LeagueHistory Tonight, if they are going to overturn a four goal first leg deficit against Bayern Munich at the emirates. We may be seeing a different side to Arsene Wenger hes asked for a lucid rage from his players. The players are ready to fight, but it is always a mixture of a little bit success or a little bit belief, you know . It drops a little bit. I think we live in the world of small margins and if you drop off a little bit on the belief side, on the confidence front it looks always like you do not want to fight, but these players, i 100 believe that these players want to do well and want to win. There have been rumours of disharmony among the arsenal players, although wenger has denied that there was a Training Ground argument between striker Alexis Sanchez and his team mates. Theres also ongoing speculation over his future as the clubs boss, but his opposite number at bayern has sympathy for him. In ourjob we have to live with critics sometimes but the most important thing is to be able to consider the right critics and i think he is a manager with a lot of experience and more experienced than others and im sure he will be able to react and to manage this moment, anticipation, this situation that can happen to every manager, so critics, is normal. You can follow all of the action in F1 On The Bbc Sport website. Indias cricketers have pulled off a dramatic win over australia in bangaluru to level the four Match Test Series at 1 1. The third test is a week on thursday finally, the second formula one Preseason Test is under way in barcelona. Surrey have announced that Kevin Peterson will be returning. Well have more than 1 30pm. The government could face the prospect of another defeat, In The House Of Lords this evening, over the process of leaving the European Union. Peers are to vote on an amendment to the brexit bill, which calls for parliament to be given a meaningful vote on a final deal. In the past few minutes, the Prime Ministers spokesman has reiterated, once again, that theresa may wants the legislation to pass unamended. 0ur assistant Political Editor norman smith is outside the House Of Lords. That debate is now under way but theresa may could tonight be facing possibly her most significant defeat on brexit so far if peers vote to give parliament a veto over the final deal that she strikes and white Downing Street are so adamant that they will resist this is because they fear it could fatally compromise theresa mays hand in negotiations because they see it will incentivise the eu to give theresa may a bad deal in the knowledge that she will come back to parliament. Parliament will likely reject it and she will have to go crawling back into the Negotiating Room begging for a better deal. Even so, the expectation is that she is facing a massive defeat tonight with even some conservative peers poised to vote against her. Amongst them, the former pensions minister. Everyone to ince ntivise the former pensions minister. Everyone to incentivise the people that are trying to negotiate the best possible deal for the future of our country, should be not ensure that they have a really good incentive to get a good deal so that it will pass through parliament and will be acceptable to the british people . Otherwise, will be acceptable to the british people . Otherwise, how will be acceptable to the british people . Otherwise, how do we make sure that the terms on which we leave are going to be acceptable . Crucial will be what happens in the commons next. Bull rebellious tory mps feel emboldened . Commons next. Bull rebellious tory mps feel emboldened . Will they feel emboldened . Mps feel emboldened . Will they feel emboldened . The mps feel emboldened . Will they feel emboldened . The question will then be what does the House Of Lords do . Do they, as many expect, back down . I put the Labour Leader in the lords angela smith. We do what we think is right and if you look at last weeks vote on eu nationals, trying to protect them even in europe, the board increased when the argument was put. We dont know what the vote will be like tonight. My hope the House Of Commons is that these issues go back, they actually listen to the arguments that are made. One other interesting arguments doing the rounds at the moment comes from the former conservative leader William Hague who has suggested that one may theresa may could get round these difficulties and narrow votes would be to call a Snap Election to try and geta be to call a Snap Election to try and get a bigger majority in the commons. Number ten have rejected this idea saying that theresa may has no wish to call a Snap Election. England and wales are being asked to consider the ethnic background of Young Offenders when it comes to sentencing. They have been drawn up by the Sentencing Council with the aim of trying to prevent young offending reoffending. They are being told they must take into account particular factors which arise in the case of black and ethnic minority children and young people. We can speak to the chill of the association of police and crime commissioners. Shejoins the association of police and crime commissioners. She joins us from central london. Do you think its right these factors should be taken into account . Absolutely, these are very sensible, not major changes but they come from the Sentencing Council which is made up ofjudges and others involved in the criminal justice system, academics and almost a lwa ys justice system, academics and almost always consult the public before it comes out with such pronouncements. It is imperative to see young people between the age of ten and 17 as what they are, young people, who are recovera ble what they are, young people, who are recoverable from the mistakes they have made an bad deeds they have done and so the right approach is to see what might have contributed to those errors are those bad deeds and try to rectify them so you certainly shouldnt be blocking out anything that might have had a bad effect. What difference could make two sentences . I dont think its intended to make a great difference. I think the point is to focus and give clear guidance to judges and magistrates about the right things to ta ke magistrates about the right things to take into account when sentencing and trying to attain that achievement of getting young people back on the straight and narrow. Pretty obviously, if somebody has had the kind of good, strong, Loving Upbringing that most of us are Fortu Nate Upbringing that most of us are fortunate enough to have had, then they add any better position to cope with lifes Ups And Downs rather than somebody who might have had an alcoholic and abusive parent who have been endured for a long time was no one particularly taking care of them. It is not to say that people who suffer that kind of disadvantage is invariably turn to crime but those factors do need to be recognised so they can be dealt with in the way somebody is sentenced. Every hope in being able to recover a young person who isnt fully developed before they are 17 and so can be brought back. Wouldnt beafair and so can be brought back. Wouldnt be a fair assumption to make that the majority of the young people appearing in courts are from disadvantaged backgrounds and therefore this would apply to almost everybody . There certainly is. There are much more deprived youth in the courts than well to do and affluent middle class people who have had secure backgrounds. There is no doubt of that. This is, i think, the point you just made, a very good one ifi point you just made, a very good one if i may say that why i think these are revolutionary is because what they are intended to do is chewing they are intended to do is chewing the way that this kind of disadvantage should be looked at in order to help recover people. Its about individualising the way a person is sentenced to have the best prospect of standing them back on their own feet, making them understand that they have been irresponsible, they have been behaved inappropriately, that it wont do and having full regard to the impact on a victim. Considering all of those things together and taking positive steps that look clear when you analyse the Young Persons background as to the right way forward. There are obviously a lot of very good aspirations in that that no one would quibble with, but in the end, does taking those factors into account actually deliver the goals that youre talking about . Why does that deliver those goals if there is no extra support around the whole system and process for the people being sentenced . There should be extra support. The point is to try to remedy what society has not given them in the first place and they will undoubtedly be put into an environment where they can be supported and the particular problems that they have through their background and so on can be tackled. Why will it work . It has done. Historically over the last decade, the youthjustice stevens, the Youth Justice decade, the youthjustice stevens, the Youthjustice Board and the Youth Offending Teams have vastly reduced the number of young people who come into offending and greatly cut back those who have come in and who have stopped offending and it is that approach that has achieved that outcomes of this is another step forward but it is about clarity and fine tuning. It is not revolutionary, it is just progress as we have been making it and we should be able to carry on doing. Lets catch up with the weather. We started today very chilly but pretty bright in places, but over the next few days there are changes. Temperatures are heading up, milder weather on the way but going downhill in many ways, we will see rain at times and things started to go downhill through Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and wales, some rain but for a central and eastern areas a decent afternoon. Sunshine turning hazy, temperatures between eight and 11. This evening the rain in the west will get stronger and sweep east, a soggy night for many, full snow for scotla nd night for many, full snow for scotland and maybe Northern Ireland, by the end of the night we get some mild air, three slices of whether tomorrow, the midlands and wales south, here are some cloud and rain, Northern Scotland will see showers and blustery wind, in between a nice slice of sunshine from Northern Ireland into Northern England but look at the temperatures, mild air making its presence felt. A Backpackerfrom Liverpool has been rescued by police in australia after she was allegedly held hostage for more than two months. A man has been arrested. Members of the House Of Lords are debating the brexit bill again. The government could face another defeat tonight, on an amendment which calls for a more meaningful vote in parliament on the final eu exit deal. Lets focus on the budget because it will happen tomorrow and there is news that an extra £320 million will be announced for new School Places in england. It will go towards the governments existing free school programme, and could be used to support the opening of any new Grammar Schools. Labour has criticised the move, for failing to address Funding Pressures faced by schools. But theresa may insists its part of her plan to make a good education accessible to every child. Earlier i spoke tojohn tomsett, who is the headteacher at Huntington Secondary School in york. He says he welcomes the new funding, but says it doesnt make up for previous cuts to education. I welcome any new money for education but in terms of what type of school we need, i would argue strongly there is no Evidence Base to say that Grammar Schools and selection improve the lot of disadvantaged students, which is about just managing families which the government say they want to support. The government is showing a commitment to spending money on education. To you, is that a welcome thing . How do you see it . Im delighted it is more money but in terms of school budgets, if you go back to 2010 and the comprehensive Spending Review from george osborne, i predicted then at our school we would need to make cuts of 770,000 to our budget. Weve made those cuts, we are in the black for the next three years, but if we just kept up with inflation since 2010, id have £800,000 more in our budget a year so it hurts a little bit when you hear people and politicians claiming they have protected core funding in education and school. In my experience, thats not true. We have ten fewer teachers at huntington than in 2007 when i started here, with the same number of students. Thats because the £800,000 was cutting your budget because of inflation. Because of the cuts weve had. George osborne, for instance, cut 80 of our reckoning Capital Budget so we used to get £160,000 a year to get our budget going and that was cut to 28,000 at a fell swoop five years ago. That cannot keep going on. Schools are finding it very hard to make ends meet. Our most expensive outlay is on staffing. Were being asked to save £3 billion over the rest of this parliament, youve got to start cutting staff. What impact does that have on Pupil Numbers in classrooms and also morale . You can imagine, cant you . For instance if you are a teacher and youre teaching an extra three students in your class and you have ten classes that you see several times a week, thats 30 students, youre teaching students, youre teaching a whole class more. The pressure on teachers just gets greater and greater. The thing the government really has to focus on is attracting high quality people to the profession because as secondary numbers grow, you can see the bulge coming through from Primary School in terms of numbers, you can have new schools but if you havent got Great Teachers in those schools then you have a problem. We go back to the Grammar School thing. If you want to improve education for every student in a community, where youll get places where they have Grammar Schools, overall the students do better. Kent, for instance, the students do worse overall in areas where they Grammar Schools and theres good data to show that so my concern would be there is no really good evidence that Grammar Schools improve the lot of all the students in the area where they exist. So, what else can we be expect from Philip Hammond tomorrow . Rachel home has been looking at what could be in the budget box. In november the 0br predicted gdp growth for 2017 of 1. 4 , but the signs are that that Growth Figure might be revised upwards to 2 after better than expected figures in the back half of 2016. Higher growth means theres more money in the treasurys coffers. But will that mean the chancellor will start spending . He says no and that he wants to make sure the country is prepared for leaving the eu. Mr hammonds under pressure to increase public spending, especially on social care, but business also say they need the government to invest to support the economy. Weve asked a few key figues in the Business World whats on their budget wish list. First up, the federation of Small Business no surprise where they want the chancellor to put his money. First and foremost, not surprisingly, Business Rates, which no longer reflect the current way businesses work in the modern environment and for the Small Businesses that are facing some massive increases following the revaluation, it is clear that they must have some additional help to overcome the problems that theyre faced. 0nce hes dealt with Business Rates, the tuc has a few requests. I think the government knows that brexit is the biggest challenge we are facing forjobs and industries in the uk and if it is serious about getting us match fit, we need big investment, support for manufacturing but also investment in Public Services and in peoples pay packets, thats the best way to ensure the economy can weather the storm. Tomorrow, Phillip Hammond will brush off his red briefcase for his first, and our last, Spring Budget. After that its an Autumn Budget and a spring statement, but, whatever you call it, what really matters are the figures. There had been hopes that 3000 could be affected. Our home affairs correspondent, june kelly, reports. Amirs family home is in the war ravaged syrian city of aleppo. He is one of the Child Migrants who, helped by the charity safe passage, came to the uk alone under the dubs scheme. He is now being fostered by a british family, and a top priority is to improve his english. Because he is under 18, we are protecting his identity and have re voiced his words. He left syria two years ago, when he was 15. It was like a horror film, with bombs falling film, with bombs falling every day and everybody scared. The only choice is to wait for death or leave. He says it is sad that the scheme which brought him to the uk is to end. It was my choice from the beginning to come here. In syria, we learnt about the uk. It is a democratic country that is really great, and protects minority groups. The conservative backbencher heidi allen recently visited refugees in calais with the labour mp yvette cooper. The dubs scheme weve chosen at this stage to end it neatly at the end of the financial year. The headlines on bbc Newsroom LiveChildrens Charities have strongly condemned facebook after a bbc investigation found it failed to remove some content featuring inappropriate images of children. Dozens of skiers have had a lucky escape after a large Avalanche Hit the resort of tignes in the french alps. French Authorities Say no one has been injured. An free after two months. A british backpacker has been rescued after being allegedly held hostage in australia. A couple who are fighting a court battle to prevent great 0rmond Street from turning off their babys Life Support Have told the bbc theyjust want their son to be given a chance. Chris gard and connie yates want to take their son charlie to america for pioneering treatment. Doctors at great 0rmond Street have applied to withdraw life support on the grounds it is not in his best interest. The couples case will go before the High Court Next month, when they will hear their sons fate. They told the bbcs Victoria Derbyshire about how they deal with his condition on a day to day basis. He can do slight movements. Move his hands, move his fingers and eyes. He cant open them fully, but he can still open his eyes and see us and he responds to us. We dont feel he is in pain at all. We wouldnt say hes suffering. Hes not got the same life as another seven month old baby, but what were asking for is something that can make him better. If we were going to court to either end care or to leave him how he is, we know thats not a life for the long term, but it is having something out there which can, you know, improve him and give him a better quality of life and hopefully make him better is the reason why were still sitting here fighting now. In terms of what the specialists at great 0rmond Street were saying they could do for him, what sort of things were they looking at . At what point did it come clear that they werent going to be able to treat him . There isnt much they can do for hondrial depletion syndrome. They told us no treatment, no cure. So they have given him vitamins and stuff which can boost the mitochondria he has. But he has very little so it doesnt do very much. That is all they could give him. Which is when you began to look around to see if there was anything out there. If there is something there, ill find it. What did you find . There was another mitochondrial syndrome that had a treatment. Children were living longer and getting stronger. There was a Research Article i read where they said that it should also work for charlies gene as well. Even though it is a different gene . It is a similar cell. It is within the same part of the cell, the salvage pathway. I went out to try and find this particular doctor. He has been very helpful. Hes waiting for charlie in america. So he has agreed to treat charlie . Yes. When did you realise that the doctors in the hospital werent going to support you in this . Thursday. The day before court. They told us we could go to america subject to money and things like that, but then they said that they dont think it is in his best interests. I said but he hasnt deteriorated recently since they said we could go to america. What was that like when you found out there was a really big fundamental difference of opinion, chris . Well, its difficult because we feel like weve been fighting for a long time. It seems like weve been fighting since the day we found out charlie was ill, you know. At the end of the day, we want him to be given the chance, youre never going to find treatments or cures for these things if you never try anything. What were asking to give him are not poisons, theyre naturally occurring compounds that me and you can produce and unfortunately he is deficient in them and he cant produce them himself. So, you know, theres no real known side effects to the medications so my kind of think the whole time has been why not try . The malaysian Prime Minister has accused north korea of holding his citizens hostage, after pyongyang banned malaysians from leaving the country. In a tit for tat response, malaysia has imposed similar restrictions on north korean visitors. The measures are an escalation in tensions sparked by the murder of the north korean leaders half brother in kuala lumpur. Steve evans reports. Smiles dont come much wider. Kim jong un is delighted with a missile launch. His military subordinate smilesjust as wide. Launch. His military subordinate smiles just as wide. He would be a fool not to. North korean state media released pictures of the simultaneous launch of four missiles. The event was a spectacular success. In response the americans flew into south korea a new anti Missile Defence to detect north korean missiles and shoot them down. But china hates the system. It says it means the American Military and fifa into its territory. Translation we oppose the deployment in south korea and the us and south korea and will take necessary measures to safeguard and south korea and will take necessary measures to safeguard our security interests. China has expressed its position to the us and south korea on many occasions. The us and south korea should be aware of our position. In malaysia, a different stand off. Malaysian police sealed off the north Korean Embassy because they think people involved in murdering kimjong uns half brother maybe there. Involved in murdering kimjong uns halfbrother maybe there. We have records of them being here but we are trying to locate them. North korea retaliated by saying the 11 malaysians in jonny allan korea retaliated by saying the 11 malaysians injonny allan could not leave the country. Malaysia says they are now hostages. Kim jong un is competent. China is unhappy, so is competent. China is unhappy, so is malaysia, japan, south korea and donald trump but what can they do . Its hard to see what might wipe the smile from kim jong uns face. Just hearing from the coroner who has been looking at the death of George Michael saying hed died of Natural Causes. When you think of reducing Air Pollution, you probably think of electric cars and Energy Efficient light bulbs, but academics at Birmingham University believe pigeons are the answer. City flocks is a new project which sends pigeons with sensors strapped to their backs off into the sky to record more accurate pollution forecasts. Graham satchell went to watch their maiden flight. Can pigeons help us in the battle against Air Pollution . It sounds far fetched, but academics at Birmingham University are convinced it can. Everybody i brought into it, they first give me the look that maybe you are giving me. It is sort of. Is this for real . Is this actually going to work . We have a superfast temperature sensor. This climate scientist will attach these tiny sensor packs to the backs of pigeons. If we know the temperatures above the rooftops, we can test the levels of urban pollution. Time for the test flight. Fitting the sensors is a delicate operation. Hello, my little friend. They are tiny, just 5 of the pigeons weight, to protect the welfare of the birds. 0ne pigeon has a tiny camera to record the flight. Much is resting on the next few minutes. I feel nervous. This is the first time we have done this. It is the culmination of many months of work to get to this stage. I think they will just take off and find their way home. Ill cross my fingers for that. It is the moment of truth. They look happy enough. They look like pigeons flying to me. Did they to you . They will flyjust over a mile. This is the disoriented view from the pigeon cam. What is it scientists are trying to discover . They already know that nitrous oxide, the pollution that comes out of diesel engines, rises with the heat coming from roads to rooftop level. But what happens to the pollution . Where does it go . To model it, they need accurate data in this climate. But how do you get the data . I thought, well, ithought, well, birds, they i thought, well, birds, they fly everywhere. They could carry our sensors. If they could be tiny and accurate enough, we could start to understand the dispersion of Air Pollution around the city. Just six minutes after taking off, the pigeons are back. 0h, brilliant. There is an anxious wait as it is retrieved. The light is still flashing. Thats a good sign. This is what the data shows the routes taken by the pigeons and the temperature above the rooftops. It will show how it changes across big cities. It will be used by planners, he says, to see where we should build hospitals and schools. It could give much more accurate street by street Air Pollution forecasts. I call him number 80. It is not a particularly heroic namem, but, pigeon number80, we salute you and your work towards a better air quality. And your contribution to the fight againstair and your contribution to the fight against Air Pollution. Were hearing that a 31 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman and toddler were bundled into a car in redcar and the woman was raped. Cleveland police have just put that out. Also the news from senior coroner in 0xfordshire that George Michael died of Natural Causes. Lets get the weather. A story of Ups And Downs with our weather. Temperatures this morning started off low with a widespread frost in Northern Areas but we have enjoyed some sunshine, as captured by this shot in norfolk. In the next few days temperatures will climb because of this mount are from the south but dont get too excited, it wont be sunny all the time. We have cloud now pushing in from the west. The weather is going downhill at the moment, so for much of scotla nd downhill at the moment, so for much of scotland and the midlands and east anglia, not a bad afternoon, we will have some sunshine, more cloud and then out west some thicker cloud bringing rain to Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, wales and the south west. Tonight that rain will push east, quite a soggy night for many, briefly sent snow over the high ground in scotland, the rain hangs around all night long in the south but here it will be mild, some cooler are packing in across the north. Tomorrow we can slice the country into three, Northern Areas blustery with some showers, central areas right where some sunshine, then in the south, a cloudy story as we start off, the channel islands, south wales, a lot of cloud, mountie, double digit temperatures. Wales and Northern Ireland, that is where we have our dry weather and sunshine and then north and west parts of scotland, blustery winds, a cool feel to the weather and those slices of whether do not move much during the day, Northern Scotland continuing to see this showers, southern part seeing rain and in between this slice of sunshine. The highest temperatures will be where we have most cloud, that higher pressure nudging its way in. On thursday things calm down, this High Pressure builds into so thursday a mild day, perhaps some rain from the west late r, mild day, perhaps some rain from the west later, we will see some rain for a time on friday but not a wash out and it stays mild.
