Vin diesel returns for the eighth installment in the Fast And Furious series. Film criticjames king gives us his verdict on this and the rest of the weeks Cinema Releases. Our main story at 5 the Afghan Government says 36 militants from the so called Islamic State group were killed when the United States dropped one of its biggest non Nuclear Bombs in the Eastern Province of nanggarhar on thursday. The commander of us forces in Afghanistan Generaljohn Nicholson said the attack had been coordinated with the government in kabul, and that no civilians were harmed. But theres also been criticism former afghan President Hamid karzai condemned the bombing as inhuman. Our south asia editor Jill Mcgivering reports. This is american hard power in action. The moment the us dropped, for the first time, the biggest Non Nuclear Weapon it has. It was a moab, nicknamed the mother of all bombs, and it was targeting underground bases in eastern afghanistan, a stronghold of the so called Islamic State group. The us military insists afghan leaders gave full approval. This was the right weapon against the right target. We will continue to work shoulder to shoulder with our afghan comrades to eliminate this threat to the afghan people, especially the people of nangarhar, to the people of the entire region, and indeed, the people around the world. Local people confirm this remote, Harsh Terrain was used by the Islamic State. Translation the bomb was dropped last night on is position and caves. It was really powerful and has been used to destroy all their tunnels and caves. Translation there were daesh bases over there. Last nights bomb was really huge. When it dropped, everywhere was shaking. Afghan leaders say the attack was justified and there are no civilian casualties. But former afghan President Hamid karzai took to social media to condemn it. Back in the United States, President Trump applauded the action and tried to score political points at his predecessors expense. If you look at whats happened over the last eight weeks and compare that, really, to whats happened over the last eight years, you will see theres a tremendous difference. Tremendous difference. We have incredible leaders in the military and we have incredible military. We are very proud of them and this was another very, very successful mission. Newsreader us drops the mother of all bombs. Today, the news still dominates us headlines, as the world digests this latest insight into this new president. Jill mcgivering, bbc news. With me is afzal ashraf, a former raf officer who advised the us command in iraq on counter terrorism. And the americans say this was the right weapon and the right target. Get a right weapon and the right target. Geta might right weapon and the right target. Get a might well have been the right target and the right weapon but the target and the right weapon but the target does not in itself bring a conflict. To bring a conflict you need big ideas as well as big bombs. And do you think President Trump has them . Im not sure. If he has he hasnt articulated them. He has a lwa ys hasnt articulated them. He has always said we are going to fight to win which is in itself a good thing, the military has a reputation and so far western military is in the last three decades dont have a reputation for winning. They have a reputation for winning. They have a reputation for winning. They have a reputation for engaging and if we can reputation for engaging and if We Ca N Reverse Reputation for engaging and if we can reverse that that would be great but how he will reverse it, without an enlightened strategy, a different strategy, is unclear at the moment. Intelligence agencies will have known of the existence of these caves for some time. The question as to be why now . Timing is significant, just a couple of days after the Secretary Of State and his opposite number in moscow, as well as President Putin had a meeting, so there is a significant test sending out a message in to the russians say they are serious about attacking isis, one of the pledges that mr trump made during his election campaign. It sent out a message in advance of the anniversary tomorrow in north korea that should you try and celebrate it with another nuclear associated demonstration then they could be consequences. And it sends out a message to isis as well. Is your suspicion that this is donald trump saying look weve got these weapons, lets use them . Or is he saying to his generals if youve got the weapons, you have my full backing if you want to use them. Where do you think that decision has come from . I think it is probably the latter. Mr trump has always warned to the armed forces, the armed forces have felt previously constrained in previous conflicts by administration is as to what they could do but what is missing isnt so could do but what is missing isnt so much weapons, the us has got the most formidable armed forces in the history of mankind. What is missing is effective strategy. Military strategy. Add political strategy. That has or has been a weakness in modern conflict and there is no indication or political strategy has come blind with elliptical. When we broke the news of the weapon yesterday, what was known of the weapon . Did you know of it existing . It has been around since 2003, designed to primarily penetrate underground bunkers and it does what Nuclear Weapons lovably could do better but of course Nuclear Weapons, at the huge environmental and military prize so this is the next best option. It sends out a message to north korea and others who have stored many of their capabilities underground that those capabilities underground that those capabilities can be attacked and damaged in an unusual manner. M sends a pretty direct message to isis if they where in these caves. What about russia . Isis if they where in these caves. What about russia . Russia will probably view this in a sort of schizophrenic way. They will be glad that isis has been attacked, the thing that they have been championing in syria. I think they will be a little concerned about americas increased involvement in afghanistan because during the drawdown there had been a great deal more involvement both with russia and of irani in afghanistan and that is busy causing a few complications are what i think russia wants from the trump regime is clarity about policy, and it seems that one moment they are pro russian and wanting to work with the russians to get rid of the extremists and the next moment they are going back to the old administrations desire for Regime Change so i think there is a lack of clarity, a lack of stability that is going to cause the russians to worry and be concerned about more than anything else. We started this interview with you talking about the need to win the war. Lets end by saying attacks like this, from the air, history has taught us they dont win anything without the backing of some form of ground troop. Is that going to be the case here . If that will be the case, definitely we have had thousands of americans, Tens Of Thousands of americans, Tens Of Thousands of american and other Coalition Troops drawn down, the conflict has not gone away. What it needs is accommodation of Ground Troops but also a very concerted political solution. You mentioned what mr cars i what mr karzai said, he is on board, you need a Comeback Strategy agreed with afghanistan in neighbours and iran and russia, increasingly getting involved as they are. We need International Strategy and i dont see one coming to the fore right now in advance certainly of the sort of attack. Thank you very much coming in. They said he had been recently released from a Psychiatric Hospital and suggested he had previous criminal convictions, so that may shed some light at the early stage of this investigation into what went on. In terms of the attack we know that this woman was attacked on the citys light rail, the tram network, just outside the Old City Of Jerusalem when this woman was repeatedly stabbed this morning. She was taken to hospital, there was an attempt to resuscitate her that was not successful and she died. Two others were not seriously hurt, a 30 year old woman was pregnant and older man, all in a panic and an older man, all in a panic everyone hurrying to get away when the tram stopped. More details now emerging but it comes at a time when has been heightened security at this time of injerusalem, at this time of year in jerusalem, with authorities aware of the fact of course that many more thousands of people are here, its thejewish passover week, which means that many more people in the old city and christian pilgrims heading for easter festivities as well. Gathering for their annual conferences, theyre also highlighting a growing shortage of teachers for subjects such as maths and science. The government says £40 billion is being spent on schools this year. In cash terms the highest figure ever. Our education correspondent Gillian Hargreaves reports. St Martins School in essex is a good school. But even here, it has become increasingly difficult to recruit staff, particularly in specialist subjects. At one stage, they had a Science Teacher vacancy for more than a year. But there are also shortages in maths and modern languages. I look at the pool of people that are teaching in those areas and the number of people that are due to retire over the next ten years, and also the number of people that are coming in that arent actually a specialist in the subject area that theyre teaching, and i think that this is really the thin end of the wedge. Teachers are gathering for their conferences at a time of unprecedented anger over cuts. There have been widespread protests from parents and schools who say, without more money, class sizes will go up and Teaching Posts will be cut. The government points out £40 billion is being spent on schools this year, the highest cash figure ever. But teachers say that hasnt taken into account rising costs, like pay, pensions, and the running costs of schools. The Funding Pressure is also beginning to hit parents, something of a concern to the unions. Half of parents are saying theyre making at least one financial contribution to the schools funds, in order to enhance resources, whatever that means, at school level. And many parents are finding that even the cost of School Uniform is something which they can no longer afford. There is also much disquiet about Government Plans to introduce a new wave of grammar schools. Teachers argue money set aside for them would be better spent on existing schools. However, the government says this new wave of grammars would benefit less well off families. Gillian hargreaves, bbc news. China has warned that conflict could break out at any moment as tension over north korea increases. Foreign minister wang yi said if war occurred there could be no winner. Adding to chinese unease, President Donald Trump said on thursday that the problem of north korea would be taken care of. Speculation has been growing that north korea may be ready to carry out its sixth nuclear test as soon as this weekend. The bbcsjohn sudworth is in the north korean Capital Pyongyang hes among a group ofjournalists who have been invited into the secretive country to witness the anniversary celebrations. Hes been speaking to passengers on the pyongyang metro system. A trip to the pyongyang Subway Station is a classic stop on any foreign media trip to this city, with the giant soviet style halls and the murals of the ruling family. But as this country prepares to celebrate its Biggest National holiday and as those celebrations are taking place amid one of the periodic peaks in the crisis and tension that often defines north koreas relationship with the outside world, it is, if nothing else, a chance to ask some of the local people what they think. Translation we should have the Nuclear Weapons. If we do not have the Nuclear Weapons the Nuclear Weapon of another country will fall on our soil. You think it keeps the country safe . Translation yes. Yes, thats right, exactly. Translation it doesnt matter whether the americans they make the situation on the Korean Peninsula tense. It doesnt matter, we feel safe because we have the great leader. Of course, all these answers are given under the watchful eye of our government minders. For them, there is a purpose to all of this. The foreign media are invited to north korea to allow it to give its version of ordinary life here, to humanise this country. But theres another purpose too, that is to give this message of unyielding defiant and resilience in the face of international pressure. Labour has accused the government of Rewarding Failure in response to new figures which suggest the government will have to pay millions of pounds more than planned to atos and capita, two private companies which assess people claiming disability benefits. Our Political Correspondent Eleanor Garnier is here. What happened . What happened . These Independence Payments were introduced four years ago in England Wales and scotland and effectively the government pays out more for these contracts than it plans to effectively because the company are doing more work than had been estimated. In order to get these benefits people with disabilities who are working age, you have to have an assessment, those are done by capita and atos. Criticism has said they are unfair and am sensitive to, and when the government to counter these projects, they think it would cost around £500 million but analysis by news agencies, the press agency, press Association Says it will be more like £700 million by the time the contracts come to the end at the end of the year. The government says its because more people are being assessed and therefore the companies are doing more work. Essentially someone has got their sums badly wrong. There is a lot of criticism . Interestingly, Stephen Crabb who used to be the Secretary Of State for work and pensions actually said this morning that over the last ten yea rs this morning that over the last ten years the departmentjust hasnt been very good at doing these estimates, its got its sums wrong, didnt realise how many people would be making these games. There are also people who are appealing the claims, so that brings in extra work too. Labour said the whole system is in disarray, the costs are spiralling Out Of Control and the government said it needs these assessments to make sure the right people get the money and to make sure it is good value for money for the taxpayers. The online Accommodation Booking Company Airbnb says it will improve its security, after a bbc investigation found that peoples homes have been burgled by scammers using stolen accounts. They hijacked profiles with verified badges and changed some personal details to pull off the thefts. The company says it will now warn members if their Profile Information is changed. Chris foxx reports. Like millions of people, christian had let out his home on airbnb while he was out of town, as a convenient way to make some extra money. He had done so for years without a problem. But on his birthday, his home was burgled. I got that horrible text message saying someone is in the account, saying someone is in the flat, and it is not me, because my account had been compromised. Christian thought he had let out his home to a verified profile, somebody who had showed airbnb a government identification, and had positive reviews from previous bookings. But the account had been stolen. The attacker had changed the name, photograph and Contact Details on the profile, but kept airbnbs verified badge. And christian is not alone. The bbc has spoken to two other people who were robbed this way, and three others who had their accounts stolen. And airbnbs Facebook Page has dozens of comments from people who had their accounts compromised. There are many ways attackers could have been hijacking airbnb accounts. They might be able to trick people into handing over their passwords. But there are ways airbnb could have defended against this. We put our Security Concerns to airbnb. The company said this. Those changes include two step verification when somebody logs in from a new device, and text message alerts if somebody changes your Profile Information. But, for christian, the changes come too late. He says the whole experience has left him with a bad feeling, and he may not use airbnb again. A huge operation is under way to move around 30,000 people from besieged towns in syria. In a deal between the government and rebel forces people from two rebel besieged shiite villages in Northwest Syria are being taken to government held areas near aleppo, while evacuees from rebel held madaya, near damascus, have been bussed to idlib province. Joining me now from Amman Injordan is alun mcdonald, a regional manager for Save The Children which works with local partners on the ground in syria. How bad Weather Conditions in the camps . The towns that were being evacuated had been under siege for two years and conditions have deteriorated to horrific levels. Aid, food and medicines had been blocked. We have seen children dying from malnutrition and illnesses which should be easily treatable if ed was allowed in. People have not been able to leave. There are checkpoints and snipers all around the town. Children have been shot dead by snipers walking to school or walking down the street, and people there have been experiencing pretty much daily bombing and shelling in which homes have been destroyed, civilians have been killed. We have also spoken to doctors in madaya, one of the towns, where children and people have been losing hope because of how desperate the situation is. They have been seeing cases of children and young people attempting suicide every few days, which i think is a really strong indication of just how bad think is a really strong indication ofjust how bad the situation there has become over the last couple of yea rs. Has become over the last couple of years. This latest move may give hope that however bad the situation is, there will be some fear in leaving the place they have called home for so long . People are very uncertain. Some people are happy to be leaving such terrible conditions but there is a lot of uncertainty about what will happen next. Many people feel that they have not had a choice. They have to leave and they dont really want to be uprooted from their homes and taken across the country to a place they do know. There is also a sense that a lot of people are being pushed into an area in idlib where the situation is getting much worse, and they are really being pushed from one crisis into another. Idlib is the place where there was the recent horrific alleged chemical attack. We have also seen very heavy bombing over the last few weeks, including villages and hospitals being bombed, and civilians being killed. They are leaving what is a brutal siege but they are going to somewhere that is getting more and more dangerous by the day. Save the children works with partners on the ground, you do not have your own staff there, but for every two villages where they say we can get you out, presumably there are others where youngsters are suffering and continue to suffer . There are. There are hundreds of thousands of people, about 600,000 people who are still under siege in areas across syria. In some of these places, such as a town near damascus, people have not had a therefore months and the situation has been getting worse and worse. There are about 4 Million People across syria in some of the ha rd est to reach people across syria in some of the hardest to reach areas which have not seen a single convoy of aid this year. So the situation in a lot of places is still extremely serious. They are forcing people to move all the way across the country, that is not a solution to ending the siege is. There needs to be a proper end to the siege and parties in the conflict need to allow aid to where people are, not just conflict need to allow aid to where people are, notjust other locations. Alun mcdonald from Save The Children, thank you forjoining us. In new zealand people are cleaning up after cyclone cook swept through the country, forcing families from their homes and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The authorities believe they have done the right thing to evacuate coastal towns. We are standing where we are today with no major injuries to people and no major inundation of homes.
