months old tomorrow. i haven't seen for six weeks now. i'm being told that i can book an alternative fight but that's with the same for fighter cani but that's with the same for fighter can i go with an airline? will be reimbursed in that. it's unsettling that so much happening everywhere. it's very easy to get caught up in the panic to when you speak to people. i would love to get home, yeah. as you can imagine, trying to make a weekly travel programme in this year has been extremely tricky. but one of the things that made it easier is by having a amazing travel family spread literally across the globe. so we've decided to catch up with the team and find out how 20/20 has been for them. my people, my travel show people! let's have a chat about this year. it's been an odd yearfor chat about this year. it's been an odd year for travel, has chat about this year. it's been an odd yearfor travel, has in a? for travel show presenters. why don't you start first tell us what your year has been like and lows. it's been really wear. i've travelled less since childhood this year. and thatis less since childhood this year. and that is weird. i think we've all missed it haven't we? it's almost like we've had our wings clipped. missed it haven't we? it's almost like we've had our wings clippedm the beginning it was a little bit well i'll take a break then after a few months you realise that travel is so much more than just seeing places. it's how i found happiness in my life at lease was up that's how i felt alive. that was taken away. i was allowed to travel to the eu in the beginning ofjuly i went and i've been travelling sense. travel is really different. one of the big things i realise as i always thought i loved animals and mountains and waterfalls was when you take away faces, you realise that people and faces are kind of really important to travel. i'll tell you what i found really strange a few times that i have managed to travel overseas is how empty the imports are. what do you think? it just so we is annette? i'm in dubai at the moment. ijust finished the latest episode of the travel show. this is an first international trip that i've done for eight months. just being in the airport, i don't know what i was expecting but i definitely wasn't expecting that eerie silence. sit in a lot of places that kind of thing. it was just really surreal the entire experience. just the fact that i got oi'i experience. just the fact that i got ona experience. just the fact that i got on a plane and i was able to step off to get into the heat. like mike said, meeting people, the smell, the food, the buzz i really thrive on that kind of thing for top this has reignited my passion for travelling and may meet realise how much i hate my makeshift dust in my living room. what about you, what's up been like out there in japan? well, fortunately japan is pretty out there in japan? well, fortunatelyjapan is pretty big. so i travel a lot injapan this year. more so than any other year. but it's been great from that perspective. i spend time with my family. but i've missed my family overseas. and i've had so many trips canceled. i had my chile trip cancelled three times. i was meant to go to singapore a couple of weeks ago and then a week before they cancelled. we had a green lane in singapore where i could go without quarantining. overnight that got rescinded. trip is off. and what about you chris or? you are a seasoned traveler. what's it been like with mike have you managed to find any highs or classes and there's a crazy year? well, i was lucky enough i think august, i got to go to germany. and not only got to go to germany. and not only got to track down some wild boar in berlin but we went down and got a little taste of the oktoberfest that wasn't. which was great because it gave us wasn't. which was great because it gave us an wasn't. which was great because it gave us an opportunity to see what really what a beer festival is like just for locals. because the millions of international visitors didn't show up because the event wasn't on in 2020. but i think the thing for me more than anything is that the first time in my life i haven't been able to go home to australia. and for people who live overin australia. and for people who live over injapan i know you have family still there, the distance has never seemed widerfor me. ijust miss my family and! seemed widerfor me. ijust miss my family and i love to go home. so at the moment australia opens its borders i will be booking that plane ticket i promise you that. and talking about booking your plane ticket once board is open, what do you guys reckon, what are your hopes for the future? what's can happen in 2021 in regards to travel?|j for the future? what's can happen in 2021 in regards to travel? i think number one, for all the people who work in the travel industry around the world especially countries where they are dependent on tourism is going to be a massive relief. they can get some work for god sake. that is really, really for them. can get some work for god sake. that is really, really forthem. number two, i don't know about you but i've been like conferences and there's this whole notion that our people get a reset? out they can think differently about travel, is there going to be more conscious travel? are begin to think about sustained ability more not just are begin to think about sustained ability more notjust the environment and what we actually do with the time that we spent? time to perhaps value the trip more. one thing i think about nonstop is in 2021, if we do choose to travel and we can travel however we make that happen vaccination or basic risk tolerance, there's can be a once—in—a—lifetime opportunity to go see machu picchu. go see mount fuji the angkor temples in cambodia with i'io the angkor temples in cambodia with no tourers. when is that could happen again? i think there's an opportunity that if people do choose to travel to come here.|j opportunity that if people do choose to travelto come here. i think people now are going to have one big holiday next year. if anything they are just going to plant one big holiday. they are not going to nip over to paris for the weekend. it's going to be a lot of effort and time put into it. you may even have to consult with a travel agent. it's like we've gone back 30 years. the grand master of travel, come on, tell us, what does the future holds our? i would say savour every 2nd. value every 2nd. i think we do just brush it through stuff and don't really appreciate. don't undervalue how much the travel experience. that was absolutely amazing. i'm going to jump was absolutely amazing. i'm going to jump in here because we have been talking about our experiences this year and talking about our experiences this yearand our talking about our experiences this year and our hope for next year. we haven't asked you. what do you think is coming out? what's a bit of hope we can take from you? you know what, you have pretty much summed up a lot of this. i think for me, i've learned that we shouldn't take this for granted. i think for years travel has been so easy for everybody. and i like the idea of next year being that want rather than going for a lots of small trips and weekends we look for that one big life changing experiential trip. because we don't know when this could happen again. we don't know when this could happen again. as someone when this could happen again. as someone who, travel has changed my life so much. i want to hold onto every 2nd. i think for me next year, it's all about that big life changing trip. bring on 2021, and travel show is going to be bigger, stronger and better. lovely chatting to you all. take care. merry christmas. happy christmas everyone. so that's it for this week. over the new year you'll get the chance to see some great trips from recent times. including mike's mind blowing journey through kazakhstan. and lu cy‘s journey through kazakhstan. and lucy's magical visit to rwanda. but in the meantime, don't forget you can in the meantime, don't forget you ca n follow in the meantime, don't forget you can follow us on social media and all the usual places. twitter, facebook and instagram. but until next time have a happy, healthy and safe next couple of weeks. and we will see you in the new year when hopefully, we can get back on the road doing what we love the most. but for now, from all of the travel show family all over the world it's goodbye. hello. the new year has started on a decidedly chilly note and i suspect that's going to stay that way for quite some time. this is the reason why. this is where we expect expecting the jet stream to be over the next ten days. you can see throughout the jet stream will be digging to the south of the british isles. that will keep us in the grip of some pretty cold air. expect cha pters to of some pretty cold air. expect chapters to stay below average throughout the next week to ten days with frost and ice by night. a mixture of rain, sleet and snow at times but not all the time. saturday dawns with high pressure to the west at low pressure to the east. that is bringing a northerly wind across the country. and we are good to see some wintry showers particular in areas exposed to that northerly wind. so pa rt exposed to that northerly wind. so part of northern ireland, parts of pembrokeshire cornwall, northeast scotland, the east coast of england, some of the showers across england will start to drift a little further inland through the day. elsewhere some spells of sunshine, temperatures struggling to 25 degrees at best. as we go through saturday night that area of shower moving from eastern england will go midlands and eastern wales was that could bring a covering of snow in places. as you move out of saturday and into sunday a subtle change. our area of high pressure moves from the west towards the north. it changes shape and that changes the wind direction. the winds not coming down from the north any more but coming in from the northeast. still a pretty chilly wind direction but it focuses the showers across eastern areas, not as many showers out west with a bit of shelter. those temperatures still struggling around four or five temperatures still struggling around four orfive or 6 degrees. we keep a similar set four orfive or 6 degrees. we keep a similarset up four orfive or 6 degrees. we keep a similar set up through sunday night into monday. high pressure to the north. notice the white lines, isobars coming from the northeast that's where the winds will be coming from. brisk win on monday. just accentuating a chilly field. i think we will see areas of cloud with rain, sleet and snow across parts of england and wales wasn't where it would also be pretty windy for some not as windy as scotland and northern ireland for them and the better chance of staying dry here as well for top temperatures on the thermometer again three to 6 degrees. factor in the strength of the wind. this is what it will feel like. in some locations it will feel sub zero all day long on monday for stops as we look ahead to tuesday not much changes. we keep this northeasterly when particular cross eastern wales not quite as windy could be a bit of rain, sleet and six at times. decent amount of three, or 5 degrees. we may see a bit of a change to the middle part of next week. area of high pressure looks at to retreat westward. allowing low pressure to develop up to the north. some uncertainty about the timing by the state. we will be keeping our eyes to the northwest of the british isles were a frontal system could well push in late on wednesday. rain yes but the air is pretty cold. there is likely to be some sleet and snow mixing and with that. and all signs are that through the end of next week and certainly into it next weekend the area of low pressure from the north will win out. diving southwards and then taking up residence close to the british isles. that will keep us on the cold side. it does give a greater chance of seeing some rain, sleet and snow at times. not only over the hills but even at low levels. this is bbc news with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world. the bbc understands that all primary schools in london are to remain closed for the start of term — after a u—turn by the british government. research confirms the the new coronavirus variant discovered in the uk has a much quicker rate of transmission. if the new variant is now present, with this increase in the r number, all of a sudden instead of a decrease of 30%, we get a massive increase, the number of cases over the same period could triple. so, this is more or less the most serious change in the virus that we've seen. a new era begins, as the brexit transition period ends and the uk completes its formal separation from the european
