There are a number of places where the local resilience authorities thought they had a problem with the flood defences that are currently in place so we have been asked to support them by putting some more makeshift flood defences in in both places. Some of the worst affected parts could see up to 140 millimetres of rainfall and gusts
of up to 80 mph. Certainly with the amount of rain that is forecast, 100mm or a months worth of rainfall on top of what is incredibly saturated ground, we are worried about the risk and thats why we are warning people to take action and thats why we are doing the kind of things were doing here. Not far away, in hebden bridge, theres no respite from the persistent rain. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has issued flood warnings and advice for residents here in dumfries and galloway plus elsewhere in the borders, South Lanarkshire and south ayrshire. Their car had been swept off the road and waged against a gate in a field by a river that had burst its banks near newcastleton. It goes on to say that swift water rescue technicians, who knew that such things existed, but thank goodness they do, from carlisle east, carlisle rest and dumb freeze were assisted by a water First Responder crew from long town. Dumfries. They waded into the water to set up a rescue line system to bring the casualties back up to the road in the nick of time. Excellent work by all crews who are all returning safely back to station while the casualties are transferred to hospital by ambulance.
