Facebook is putting out tips on how to spot it, but could the British Election be the next to feel its impact . I am katty kay in new york, Christian Fraser is in paris. It is an extraordinary achievement. Not since the days of napoleon has a frenchman risen to power so young and with such speed. Not since world war ii has a leader taken power without a party and a parliamentary base. There were very few in the established Political Class who endorsed Emmanuel Macron or believed in his bid to become president , but president he will become this sunday when he assumes power from francois hollande. He has already resigned his leadership of the movement he began a year ago. It will now be re named La Republique en marche. Politicians from right and left will be allowed to campaign under its banner in next month crucial parliamentary elections, so long as they quit the parties to which they belong. The President Elect says he wants a coalition of the willing. Starting our coverage, our europe editor, katya adler, has this report. Its been a day of reflection in france. Paying tribute to world war ii fallen. Taking stock of fresh challenges ahead. Frances brand new President Elect here at ve day commemorations, taking his cue from outgoing head of state, francois hollande. Frances soon to be youngest ever president looked a little unsure last night, as well. Rehearsing for his new role, as he prepared for his first public appearance. But by the time he took to the stage, Emmanuel Macron had a confident, for many controversial, message. To the tune of the eu anthem, he said europe was the future of the new dynamic france. Leading europhiles are delighted, if in understated tones. Translation Emmanuel Macron carries the hopes of millions in france and across europe. He led a courageous, pro european campaign, and stands for openness in the world. Emmanuel macron has raised high expectations, promising many things to many people, to dramatically reform france, caring for the fragile while boosting business, and to be very tough on brexit, but he doesnt have his own government or mps in parliament, so is he flexing muscles he doesnt yet have . Frances President Elect has made brexit threats aplenty. Damp and desperate in calais today. After brexit, mr macron has vowed to tear up an agreement where france prevents thousands of migrants making their way to dover each year. And hes talked of luring banks and businesses from the City Of London this side of the channel. At a Campaign Event in london today, the Prime Minister said mr macrons Brexit Ambitions must be matched. He was elected with a strong mandate, which gives him a strong position in the negotiations. In the uk, we need to ensure we have an equally strong mandate, and an equally strong negotiating position. But domestic discontent, not brexit, will be mr macrons main focus. This was a trade Union Demonstration earlier today. Macron was foisted on us by banks, lobbies and the eu elite, she says. He doesnt represent much of france. As a centrist politician, Emmanuel Macron faces opposition left and right, only weeks away from a crucial parliamentary election. A lot of people are asking whether france is truly a divided nation. After all, mr macron took 66 of the vote. Almost 21 Million People voted for him, but 11 Million People voted for the far right candidate, Marine Le Pen. When you drill into the figures you discover there were also 16 million other registered voters that either abstained or went to the Polling Stations and left a blank or spoilt vote. When you do the sums he actually took just over 43 of 48 million registered voters. So, if he doesnt succeed, improve the French Economy, kept unemployment down, is the window still open that a third of french voters voted for Marine Le Pen, is the windowsill other nationalist populist to make the running and succeed where Marine Le Pen field . Yes, absolutely. Dont forget jean luc melenchon, who did well in the first round boat. Nearly 50 of the first round boat. Nearly 50 of the french people voted for a eurosceptic candidates. Yes, absolutely, if he doesnt do the business over the next five years people will look at those figures and say he didnt really have the mandate and there is a risk that one of those two leaders will come back and may well hunt mr macron. The reaction here in america this has been bubbling from with joy from democrats. I keep reminding people here that she did get one third of the boat, Marine Le Pen. Vote. Vote. So who is the man who will become the next president of france . At 39 years of age, he has limited political experience. He spentjust two years as the Economy Minister in the socialist government of francois hollande. His performances in the tv debates were polished, on the Campaign Trail he appeared confident and in charge of his brief, but what about the man behind the politician . Tonight, the french voters will see a side to Emmanuel Macron they have never seen before. The French Network tfi are to screen a fly on the wall documentary. Its called Emmanuel Macron Behind The Scenes of the victory. I have been speaking to director Yann Lhenoret. He followed mr macron for eight months, getting extraordinary access along the way, including the final moments last night before he made his acceptance speech. The most intriguing moment is this meeting between him and the centrist grandee, Francois Bayrou, he thought he was too young but was prepared to give him a go. Exactly. It was a very special sequence to shoot because Francois Bayrou was coming and was a little shy. He knew i was filming this meeting, which was a private one. I had to be very discreet and i did not look at him in the eye, for example. Ijust thought i would take my shots. Just a couple of weeks ago at the Whirlpool Factory Marine Le Pen comes and stands with the workers outside the factory well he is inside with the bosses. He gets very tough with the staff. Very. He was disappointed that he didnt get. He thought he was doing everything right and Marine Le Pen was in the light and he was not. I think he thought it was unfair to be treated like this, so he gathered all of his group and said that he could not do it any more like this. He had to go and meet all the people, and that is what he is going to do anything for the next five yea rs. To do anything for the next five years. Fascinating. It does sound like Yann Lhenoret is a fan of mr macron. When you were speaking to the director, what did he say about the director, what did he say about the evolution he sort of mr macron in the campaign, did he change in a nyway in the campaign, did he change in anyway as he got closer to the possibility of becoming president of france . Yes, i think you did. Obviously, there was a period and they had to build trust between each other as he was filming, but it was true that there was an evolution Emmanuel Macron. In the minutes at the beginning he worked in no hoper. He got the sense he said through the campaign that he was starting to grow into the role. That moment there were you saw him at the factory telling his staff that he had to go out and take risks or otherwise he would be like francois hollande, he said that was the moment that he became the leader. The other interesting aspect was the role that his wife plays. Although he is very collegiate with the rest of his staff, when he comes off the televised debate has been at a rally he turns to her first and says, was a good . She writes his speeches, instruct him on where he has gone wrong. I think she will play a prominent role when he becomes president. One other thing come he is 39 years old. What have you done with your life up until now . President of what exactly . I have got to really up my game. I am even the number two on this programme never theres Breaking News out of washington today about the investigation into the trump campaigns ties with russia. You will all remember this scene. This was when donald trump visited barack obama in the white house two days after the election. What we didnt know, until today, is that during their 90 minute meeting, mr obama personally warned mr trump not to hire general Michael Flynn as part of the new administration. Now obama allies are telling us reporters about the highly unusual intervention by their boss. An intervention mr trump ignored. Just a brief time ago, sean spicer addressed the reports at the white house briefing. It is true that the president. President obama made it known that he wasnt a fan of general flint, which shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone given that general flynn had worked for President Obama, was outspoken critic of the shortcomings, specifically as it related to his lack of strategy in confronting isis and other threats facing america. The question you have to hazard yourself is if President Obama was truly concerned about general flint, why didnt he suspend his Security Clearance . Why did the Obama Administration let him go to russia for a Speaking Engagement and gap as the . Get paid for it . Get paid for it . In the next few minutes we will hear a lot more about these ties to russia, and mr flynn, when the former acting Attorney General sally yates testifies about russian interference in the us election. Heres what led to todays testimony. Ms yates was asked by the Trump Administration to stay on in the role until the president s nominee, jeff sessions, could take over President Trump then fired Yates Injanuary after she refused to defend his travel ban immigration order. In a statement, sean spicer accuses sally yates of betraying the department ofjustice. Today, congress will question ms yates about her warnings to the trump team about the former National Security advisor Michael Flynn and his contacts with russia. Among those questioning her will be democratic senator Amy Klobuchar, and i spoke to herjust moments ago. Are you surprised that President Obama intervened personally on the issue of donald trump hiring general flynn, and how unusual would that be . I would imagine it is pretty unusual but this is someone that President Obama had fired from his administration, so that is also really unusual. President obama didnt terminate a lot of his senior people, so that would be why it would be so unique. The second thing it is that it backs up other things we had been hearing. I havent heard about the President Obama news until today. We have heard the actual Attorney General, sally yates, back then also warned them and i will be asking the questions about that today. This a series of warning that for good reason our intelligence officials are dealing with the man who basically lied to the Vice President of the United States, someone president of the United States, someone who spoke to the Russian Ambassador on the very day that President Obama had announced the expansion of sanctions against russia. There is a whole series of conduct is here that our intelligence sources have tracked, conveyed to the people they were supposed to, then those people in good faith for warning the Incoming Administration than the Actual Administration than the Actual Administration about this problem. Donald trump is suggesting this is Barack Obamas fault because it was Barack Obamas fault because it was Barack Obamas fault because it was ba rack obama who Barack Obamas fault because it was barack obama who give general flint Security Clearance in the first place. Ok, first of all barack obama fired general flynn. Secondly, years went by since that happened, so there had to be a new vetting process. Third, the reason that President Trump and his team seem to be giving his Dad General Flynn was so loyal to President Trump. I have a lot of friends from high school who are loyal to me but that doesnt meani who are loyal to me but that doesnt mean i put them in as National Security adviser. There are a lot of reasons to question President Trump waking up this morning than blaming President Obama for something that was clearly his decision and after they had been warned by the acting Attorney General of the United States that this was a big security breach, but he had lied to the Vice President , lied to government officials, he actually left this man in his position for 18 days. You will be interviewing sally yates shortly in the congressional hearings. What is the congressional hearings. What is the one thing you would like to hear from herfact the one thing you would like to hear from her fact could the one thing you would like to hear from herfact could move the one thing you would like to hear from her fact could move this investigation mark it is important that we establish her warnings were formal. There are some indications that they could have been more casual. I think whatever she can say thatis casual. I think whatever she can say that is not classified will be important in terms of exactly what she knew and what she believes that means. Also, remember the director will also be there. He has already in his testimony talked about Vladimir Putins major focus on trying to hurt Hillary Clinton in the selection and trying to bring her down in the selection. I hope this will inject some seriousness into the administration coming forward with the information. 17 intelligent agencies in the United States have firmly said that a foreign power was trying to influence our elections. This should not just be a influence our elections. This should notjust be a concern about one Political Party or a election, it is the concern of all democracies around the world. That is why i want an independent commission to our panel of experts and, with recommendations of what we do have this happens again and how we can prevent it. As senator Amy Klobuchar indicated there, there has been more than one temp two pass the buck. President trump gave it another Go On Twitter today. General flynn was given the highest Security Clearance by the Obama Administration but the fake news seldom likes talking about that. He also tweeted ask sally yates, under oath, if she knows how classified information got into the newspapers soon after she explained it to w. H. Counsel. He is busy trying to smear sally yates bid through that week. A lot of people at home will be wondering if we keep hearing about this russia investigation but when will it come a head . I am almost beginning to feel sorry for general flint at the moment. Nobody wants to own this quy moment. Nobody wants to own this guy. He has been left at the cold, he is by lawyers. Night donald trump and saying it is all Barack Obamas fault. I think the real issue, why it matters to people here in the United States, two people in france, britain, germany later on this year, is that this really is all about russian involvement in the democratic process. Glad your putin and his cohort iss attempts to undermine Western Democratic processes. Undermine Western Democratic processes. That is why these investigations are important. Democrats are saying that they are being stonewalled, not getting the information that they need to push these investigations forward, both in the senate or in the house and this could take a long time, which is also why some of them are saying we need an independent investigator because they dont trust the republicans to carry this through faithfully. On general flynn, he has offered to give some evidence to the senate so long as he is not charged. What is going on with that . Both republicans and democrats have said they will not give him immunity. The people on the committees would like to question him but they havent done so yet. He is a key part of this. So far, as far as we know, he was steps from the oval office as National Security adviser, he had access to the top secret in the country, yet he had this past with russia that is some inexplicable. That is an extraordinary situation for the country to find itself in. Whos responsibility is it to stop fake news . Facebook clearly thinks it should at least be seen to try. Ahead of the uk election, the tech giant has placed ads in several british newspapers with ten tips on how to spot fake news stories. Afterfacing criticism in the us campaign that fake news stories spread on facebook affected the election, the tech giant clearly feels the need to do more in europe. Our Technology Correspondent rory cellanjones reports. Its a term that became familiar during last years american president ial election. Fake news stories made up to make money or act as political propaganda. And its facebook which has taken much of the blame for spreading stories such as these. Now the Social Network says its doing everything it can to tackle the problem in the uk. With these Newspaper Adverts part of that effort. Facebook says it is to bring up the battle against fake news. It is giving its users a guide to spotting what it calls false news, it is closing Tens Of Thousands of fake uk accounts which might spread misinformation, and it is working with Fact Checking organisations during the election campaign. So, what happens if a friend shares what you think is a fake news story with you . Well, its not blindingly obvious but you go here, go down to report post, i think it shouldnt be on facebook is the choice here, you continue, then you get the option at the bottom of its fake news story. And once you have done that you should end up with an independent Fact Checking organisation. One of those organisations thinks the social Network Needs to do more. There is a responsibility for facebook to look at how do we change facebook itself to make it easier for people to spot the sites that are not what they are cracked up to be on things that need to be checked out in more detail. Yes, this is good stuff from facebook but it should only be the beginning. In germany there is already a drive to combat fake news in the run up to their elections and with our own general election just over four weeks away the parties know that facebook a key battle ground. They will have identified exactly the types of voters they would like to target and the types of messages them with an facebook will be the means of delivering those messages. Not only that, facebook will be the means by which they understand the response to those messages and they will change them and evolve them based on that response. More than 30 Million People will get news and political messages from facebook during the election campaign. A Social Network says it is doing its best to make sure that what they read isnt fake. Rory cellan jones, bbc news. There was plenty of the music through and adds Emmanuel Macron during this campaign, including an allegation a week ago that he had an Offshore Account in the bahamas. All Offshore Account in the bahamas. All of that proven to be untrue. The french media were very disciplined in not reporting those e mails and documents that were hacked from the En Marche Party that were circulated on the web. You are watching 1oo days plus from bbc news. Still to come for viewers on the bbc news channel and Bbc World News we visit the Chicago Church where half the congregation is undocumented immigrants its giving sanctuary to families who could be deported. Im here in paris, where we are looking at Emmanuel Macrons first 2a hours as President Elect in france. Thats still to come on 100 days plus, from bbc news. The weather has been very dry lately and there is more dry weather on the way for most of this week. There is a change on the way. At the time we get to friday that qb thunderstorms around, but in the short term the weather is looking good. This picture was taken earlier today in scotland. The east coast has been very cloudy. A lot of cloud across many used in areas stretching from easter in scotland through yorkshire down into the south east, but these Western Areas enjoying the sunshine. No change this evening so starry skies across Western Areas, whereas in the east we keep that blue, grey skies with the wind coming in the north sea. Amateurs not desperately low tonight, seven or eight degrees. Tomorrow morning, across scotland, waking up to Crystal Clear blue skies there. Stunning weather for belfast, not a bad randy irish sea, most of coastal of wales. Further inland there might be more cloud around. Beautiful in cornwall and western parts of devon. In central and eastern areas, up to newcastle, probably staying on the cloudy side. Tomorrow, eastern and central areas will remain cloudy and some of them will remain cloudy and some of them will stay pretty chilly. If you are in norwich or how little feel cold, temperatures barely into double figures, whereas 18 degrees for belfast. Then we will have a cold night tomorrow night into wednesday. The butchers and cities will dip all the way down to just 2 degrees. There will be a grass frost here. Then we have a fine day. Thicker cloud for the northern isles, and it will be cold. That was the into thursday, we will start to see some changes as this low pressure will send thicker cloud and spots of rain and our direction. It will be heavy rainfall. Further north it is looking absolutely fine, 17 degrees in glasgow. Into friday, we could even see some thunderstorms developing across southern and central areas and through the weekend the trend is for the South Westerly Winds to pick up and trying cloud and rain, so rain is on the way. Welcome back to 100 days plus. The french President Elect Emmanuel Macron is beginning the process of forming a government, while his fledgling Political Movement now targets a parliamentary majority in next months elections. The former acting Attorney General sally yates, will testify in the senate in a few moments about russian interference in the us election and the trump teams associations with moscow. A foreign power was trying to influence our election and this should not be just a concern of one Political Party or election, it should be the concern of democracies around the world. Emmanuel macron now faces the reality of winning. His victory came as a huge relief to European Union allies Angela Merkel said he carries the hopes of millions of french people, and of many in germany and the whole of europe. But after all the euphoria last night, mr macron is straight back into it today and theres no respite from campaigning. A little earlier i spoke with one of his Senior Adviser about his first 2a hours on thejob. Yesterday, he already spoke with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, theresa may. Today, hes receiving messages from the president of chile, he had a telegram from President Putin of russia, so this is where he is going to manage first his team then he will meet a lot of people, and get messages from people from all over the world. What is your thinking when it comes to pm . Its a very symbolic position at a time when he doesnt have a party, he has a movement. He says he has someone in his mind, i will tell will not tell you what he has in his mind. We dont know. He want somebody to be strong, politically strong, to make sure they have experience with parliament. As you know, we have elections coming up, parliamentary elections. That is now our battle. To reform france, present macron wants to have a strong majority, that is the key issue here. We won the election, we understand that this country is angry and expecting a lot of things. We want to build something new which is going to be about to be reform france. With that in mind, in the pictures we have seen today, he is close thing he will lean left, is he someone who can bring the right . The symbol is much more what happened. It is not necessarily about being close to higham. Its about may eight, 1945. It is a new president , Emmanuel Macron resigns. When he was minister. At the time, the president was hollande. He resigned because he wanted to go further. But he doesnt need anything more than unity between two men and is aware of the position of power. He wants to go further with europe and deeply integrating europe that clearly has implications for britain and brexit. When he came to downing street, he said he wanted to bring back french companies, and it couldnt be possible to brexit to be better than being in the eu. So he will strike a hard bargaining . He will be extremely careful about brexit. He says he will speak with Great Britain but he needs to be vigilant. That is part of his message. He wants to protect the french people as you know, we have many french People Living in britain. I think his message was really clear, as you pointed out, when he came to britain. He wants to be vigilant, cautious, he wants to protect france, who wants to work for the best interests of the french people. And also of europe. One final issue, outside the issue of scull the framework of the eu, there is the le touquet agreement between britain which moves the border to calais. Is that up for renegotiation . Lets see what happens, i will not comment on that at this moment. It could be a tricky issue . It is not a tricky issue at the moment, ijust slept for two ours and we need to be careful of the words we are using in politics. We will try to do something that has never been done before. Coming from a civil society, i know from a long time ago, each word is important when you do an interview. So when you do an interview. I will not comment at th moment. Christian, thats interesting shes not commented on the border issue but this morning Emmanuel Macrons Chief Economic Adviser told the bbc that mr macron would be a hard negotiator but he wouldnt want to punish britain for its decision to leave the eu. Yes, it is clearly a sensitive issue for them. And they do intend to discuss it in the weeks ahead. Emmanuel macron himself suggested that he wants to renegotiate the le touquet border treaty. Heres what theresa may had to say earlier today. As for the le touquet agreement, it worked to the benefit of the uk and france. Obviously, in the government will be sitting down and talking to mr macron and others, about how the syste m mr macron and others, about how the system has worked. Both for the benefit of france and the uk. Read the westminster tea leaves for me, you have Theresa May Congratulating Macron saying he got Afair Congratulating Macron saying he got a fair victory, but there must be some consternation in london as they go into the brexit negotiations that brusselss hand strengthened. By Emmanuel Macrons convincing victory . They probably would have preferred francois fillon, but they probably wouldnt have wanted to work with Marine Le Pen even though she might have been better for brexit, it would have meant serious trouble here in france. Emmanuel macron is a banker so he knows the world of finance, that is perhaps a positive thing. But he wants a stronger europe, a more reformed europe, and an integrated europe. He doesnt want to let brighton threat that. Macron economic credentials he doesnt want to let brexit sat on that. His economic credentials was a big part of his campaign, one in four adults dont have up for full time job, and there was high unemployment. The question is what can he actually do about frances high Unemployment Rate one in four young adults in this country dont have a full time jobs. Ive been speaking to pierre gattaz, head of the Employers Association medef. People will trust, Business People like me. We trust the fact that this guy is moving france into the right direction. The Business Community might trust, will the people . So many times before, we have seen president s take on difficult issues like pensions and labour were formed, and then they come to the barricades and they are watered down. Francois lance did not hollande did not do that but macron has, he announced that. Hollande did not announce that. He said he could pushit not announce that. He said he could push it through by president ial decree . Im wondering if that is a gamble giving he doesnt have a party or a movement, he doesnt have mp polmont . The majority of the people in france once reforms. Even if he does not either party, if he does not have a majority in this election, he can have people from the republicans on the right side, and on the left side. People like the former minister of france, ten vote for reforms. Even if he does not have the majority, i believe there will be some kind of coalition. This is my hope and my bet. It should work. As producers are tiny wee uptight full time and you and i talk our producers tell me we are uptight full time. Can he reformed the French Economy . What do you think . There was a Prime Minister years ago thatis there was a Prime Minister years ago that is that we have a fertile country in france, we want a bureaucrat and regrow taxes. That is the problem for years. Which president will get the guts of france spending and reform the French Economy so they can grow jobs . All armed and sarkozy both bailed, can macron make a difference hollande and sarkar the posts failed. Donald trump esme donald trump has made donald Illegal Immigrants here in america very anxious. Some churches are trying to help. They are fighting the president s Deportation Orders and offering sanctuary to families who could be deported. The bbcs Olivia Lace Evans has gone to visit one Chicago Church that has offered to hide undocumented families and is now challenging immigration authorities to launch a raid. Which are going to tell them, here they are. We you will separate the family, you will alert while the whole world is watching. Right now, donald trump is fighting in syria for protecting kids that they are here in the country. Us citizens kids, separated from their mothers. I dont know how he is doing this. One Church Giving sanctuary in chicago. If you look at the numbers, it is not clear that President Trump in the first few months of his presidency is actually deported more people than obama did in the same period. The Arrest Numbers are up but the numbers of deportations look about the same. One thing that is clear is that the fear level has increased, the illegal immigrant are all talking about. They are nervous about their status in america in a way that they were not under last presidency. Plenty of anxieties. My trip here in paris has come to an end, ill be in london tomorrow. Thanks for watching, goodbye. This is bbc news.
