live in ukraine where there is growing concern about the security and protection of evidence at the crash site of flight mh 17. at least 13 people are killed in india after their school bus was hit by a train in the southern state. and the first day of competition at the commonwealth games in glaskow. aviation officials are saying they have lost contact with an air passenger flight and lost contact 50 minutes after it took off. the algerian news agency says the plane is flying to algiers and 110 people are on the plane. one of the planes were being operated by air alger. they are saying that the aircraft took off at 1:17 local time. it was supposed to land in algiers at 5:10 in the morning local time but did not reach its destination. there is a flight number for that plane although i should say we cannot completely confirm this but the flight number we have from the a.p. is ah 5017 enrowd to e enroute to algiers. it is day 16 of israel's offensive against militants in gaza. this is the after math of another israeli air strike today. the u.n. says it is struggling to cope with the increasingly desperate situation. more than 700 palestinians have been killed in the conflict. the chief is saying not is being done enough to protect the civilians who are bearing the brunt of the offensive. >> the top of everybody's agenda is the issue of how to protect civilians being caught up in the middle of this violence. the majority of those killed in gaza are women, children, men who have nothing to do with the fighting. that's the major concern that we have. but children, so many children have been killed as a result of the violence in the last few days. it is a terrible, terrible situation. >> israel's prime minister, benjamin netanyahu has accused hamas of hiding rockets within gaza and criticized the council for failing to investigate alleged israeli war crimes. >> this use of human shields is cynical, grotesque. what is equally grotesque is that israel was condemned in the human rights council. it is a travesty of just skps fairness and common sense and travesty of truth. and i think that it will not prevent us from continuing to act to defend our people, to protect them against rocket attacks and to dismantle the vast terror tunnels network that we have seen that is geared to penetrate our territory. we will continue with that activity in order to defend our people. >> reporter: israel's military offensive continues into the 17th day. we are getting reports of intense activity around the area in the southern gaza strip. this is where israel says the tunnels are used to launch cross border attacks and several palestinians have been killed in the fighting. here in gaza in the east we can hear intense shelling continuing with bombardment of the neighborhoods. israel says this is an area which hamas has used as a focus of its terrorist infrastructure. overnight we heard a number of palestinian rockets being fired into israeli territory. now humanitarian organizations are raising growing concern about the situation here. the u.n.manitarian chief talking about how many more people are displaced staying with family and friends. valerie amos saying water is running out and difficult to get food supplies through to the people. the only small amount of hope people are finding is the fact that the hamas leader has said he would be prepared to accept a temporary humanitarian truce but sticking to the terms that any cease fire with israel must involve tight border restrictions imposed on gaza by israel and egypt. yooun general says he is outraged and alarmed to hear rockets are placed in a school in gaza. the rockets have disappeared. let me just show you a shot we are getting in from gaza, the skyline, smoke rising in the distance. we can speak to christopher gunnis who is a u.n. spokesman. what do we know about what was in the school? >> as soon as the second cache of weapons were discovered we immediately informed parties involved. we evacuated the premises. at the same time we began intensive consultation to find an actor to survey the weapons. on the ground, meanwhile, there were 1,500 displaced civilians in schools outside the space. didn't enter until the following day because people displaced and forced open and it was at that point that we discovered that the weapons that were placed there the day before had been removed. immediately involved the office of secretary general who initiated review with taking a concerted effort. the secretary general directed department of security and safety and the u.n. served to do so immediately and implement an effective security plan. furthermore he is directing hamas -- we have been open and transparent. and action is underway to make sure this does not happen again. >> i have more questions but we have to leave it there. maybe we can try to contact you again later in the day. thanks for now. for more on the situation in gaza you can go to our website for the latest from o correspondents. the malaysia airlines shot down over ukraine. there are concerns over security. the bbc team found it abandoned with no guards, no investigators. let's go live now to my colleague. tim wilcox is there. it is far from certain what is happening still at the crash site. >> reporter: you are absolutely right. in fact, international concern growing about the security of the crash site and the evidence which is there. the bbc team went there a few hours ago. there was no protection of the evidence or wreckage at all. tony abbott, the australian prime minister has dispatched a 50-strong team of police officers to ukraine hoping that the u.n. will form some sort of group to seal that site because it is absolutely imperative that investigators get there and go through the wreckage. fighting is continuing in the area, as well, and at the same time the bodies here in karkiev are being prepared to being flown to the netherlands. a similar ceremony will take place when the flight lands in the netherlands but without the dutch king and queen. the situation on the ground is confusing. speaking to the prime minister of the people's republic saying that his men were told not to retrieve bodies and were obstructed by international monitors and said they wanted to get the bodies out of the wreckage as soon as possible and had strong words about president obama accusing the rebels of hampering the investigation. >> reporter: the self-stated prime minister of the donetske people's republic. and also there are words of the buk missile. rebel commander of the brigrade made up of russian nationals largely and apparently with a lot of russian equipment. he has been speaking to the reuters news agency and he said he understood another rebel militia did have a surface to air missile and he believes they had then concealed it after the attack last week. >> translator: i knew the buk came. i do know about this buk. i have heard about it. >> reporter: despite saying that to the reuters news agency on camera he denied saying that. he explained he was talking theoretically. you can see in the war zone how things are still extremely confused on the ground. what is certain here is that the bodies which came up from the crash site on the train a couple of days ago are still being prepared here at the airport, put into wooden coffins and flown to the netherlands. let's go and speak to anna holligan now. how many bodies are expected to arrive where you are today? >> reporter: well, it's a week ago almost to the minute since the flight took off here in the netherlands. holiday on way to bali. if you look here tributes are being laid. all over the country we have seen this, pockets of sympathy. we are expecting 70 coffins to be arriving within the next few hours. again, there will be the ceremonial homecoming. the dutch king and queen will not be present but we are expecting relatives to be here once again. >> reporter: in terms of the forensic analysis of the remains, are different nationalities involved even though this is a dutch-led investigation? >> reporter: yes. all of the bodies when they arrive here will be driven one hour to a town here in the netherlands. it is a place that lost three entire families and a son from one other family. we have just seen one of the r hares entering here. they will be taken to the military facility where forensic investigations will begin. nobody can be sure how long it will take. dutch prime minister has said it could be days, weeks or months. while they are here today watching they are not sure who is inside the coffins. >> thank you very much. we will keep you up to date with all of the latest developments here in eastern ukraine and around the region. for now, ruled poland violated human rights by allowing cia to detain, interrogate and torture. the palestinian now being held in guantanamo bay will each get $135,000 in compensation. at least 60 people have died in iraq after suicide bombers and gun men attacked a bus transferring convicts from a prison in baghdad. as the convoy travelled through a remote area road side bombs went off and militants opened fire. thet battle left 52 prisoners and soldiers dead. within the last hour we are joined -- >> there were dozens of high value prisoners accused of terrorism charges held at the detention facility 20 kilometers north of baghdad. this base was attacked by mortars. so it was feared it was an attempt for a jail break. so they decided to transfer these prisoners in the convoy to baghdad. once the convoy was on its way apparently it was ambushed. first road side bombs went off and a gunfight ensued. what has happened is that 52 of the prisoners were killed and eight guards were killed and there were big questions asked about why is it such a high number of prisoners were killed, who killed them exactly. because today is almost a year since last year two big jail breaks happened in exactly the same area. and hundreds of insurgents were freed. so if it is a repeat of what is happening then it will be a group like the islamic states insurgents, the sunni led trying to free the in the number of botched executions in the united states. >> reporter: these executions are supposed to take just a matter of minutes. this one took two hours and the eyewitnesss who saw this particular death take place say that joseph wood, the inmate thrks convicted double murderer was gasping and snoring throughout. there does seem to be some dispute as to whether this was a botched execution. there has been comment from the department of corrections in arizona who say that their medical team was present throughout and that the patient remained deeply sedated until death was pronounced. a statement for the spokesperson from the attorney general's office in arizona saying there was no gasping of air, that it was peaceful. whatever the truth there is a back story to this and that is the legal team for joseph wood argued this execution should not go ahead because not enough information is known about the two lethal drugs which were to be used in this case. they had only been used once before in ohio in january and that time it took 26 minutes for the patient to die. in that case different drugs but another arguably botched execution in oklahoma in april this
