Uring problem is with the transport network and there have been chaotic scenes last evening and continuing and there are still people stuck on trains or right now just looking at the update from Thameslink and Northern trains and they say they have a number of trains on the railway which are unable to move or require the attention of a specialist engineer and the message which was posted just 20 minutes ago says the rescue of these trains is ongoing and prevents a train service running along with many other of the train companies there saying those problems will continue until at least mid day later on today so the problem is certainly not over and many of those people have been on those trains for 1st something like 9 hours and you can just imagine the scenes I think you may be talking to somebody shortly but these are trains that. May have lost the air conditioning that you you can't open the windows they may be running out of food and drink and they're still waiting to know what's going to happen to them tonight so for those people those trains in a must be a real nightmare indeed and even they might be cold comfort to them Can you give any details about what exactly happened. Happened Yes I mean national the national grid in fact haven't given us very much information they they simply say that 2 generators they call them in other words sources of power went went offline in the same time they're not saying what they were but Industry experts are telling us that at $1658.00 a gas fired plant a little little Baffert in Cambridge share failed and then 2 minutes later Horn see offshore wind farm also disconnected now we don't know if those 2 events are related at all we just don't know the stage but the fact that 2 of them went down. And that in one fell swoop the lost about 5 percent of its power and that is what is created these these power cuts right across the country geographically different locations from the south right up to the north or the north east England Wales it seems Scotland not apparently affected but those widespread power carts certainly in the domestic network but the problem was sorted out pretty rapidly and most of those domestic customers were back on by 6 or 630 but it's the transport network which has been really hit hard and there are questions being asked about why the core transport network has been affected so badly and certainly what happens we understand the train companies is that when the power comes back on it's not simply a question of the train start off run again in many cases as a said they need a specialist engineer to go out and restart them. And meanwhile they're blocking the line so that is that explains to a certain extent the ongoing problems on the on the trains and that explains why there will still be traffic chaos later today Saturday doesn't because the trains are in all the wrong places that's right the trains are in all the wrong places the drivers are are out of hours so it's very much like you see at the airports when you when you have weather related problems will strike related problems there is inevitably a knock on effect and that's certainly what the rail companies are expecting there's been a big problem King's Cross in London the station was actually closed for quite a while because there were too many people on the concourse some Pancras similar problems and lots of people wondering how on earth they were going to get home if they could other people thinking what well perhaps they have to find a hotel somewhere in London so a lot of problems especially it seems to the north of London and those major terminals some Pancras and Kings Cross and he thank you B.B.C. Anyway let's move on Donald Trump says there's support across Congress for tougher background checks for gun buyers following 2 shootings in El Paso and Dayton which killed 31 people last weekend with us now in Washington is our North America Correspondent Peter Burrows do we know any more about what these tougher background checks will consist of Peter there's very little detail Darton this is Dan Trump talking as he's leaving the White House saying that there'd been a as you say tremendous support for changing the background check laws of course background laws exist at the moment the point is that there needs to be tougher more stringent background checks especially to try to identify people with mental illness and this is something the president has talked about a lot who with a gun in their hands saying it wouldn't be clearly a good idea and that the laws as they stand need to be much tighter this is a slow process there were and what is frustrating a lot of Democrats is that they have already in the House of Representatives passed a background check law but the Republicans haven't jumped on board and what isn't clear and it seems as if what President Trump is talking about is not simply supporting what the Democrats have already thrush now but pursuing something new which could take a long time and when talking of background checks the president is talking about people who are mentally ill they seem to be shoving the blame always on people with mental health conditions which can be you know most people in actual fact just wonder whether this is enough and you understand why I'm saying this from our perspective certainly many of us who look at this is putting a plaster over a very deep wound in America. Yes and I've heard this a lot and I know a lot of people who are frustrated with simply talk of tweaking some existing laws maybe bringing in new laws but simply as they apply to background checks now unless America decides to change the Constitution to make it illegal for people to bear arms which frankly no one can see happening all they can do is bring in new laws to restrict the number of people who are getting guns or restrict the conditions or perhaps make it harder for people who have a history of mental illness all of those issues which the president is very very keen to talk about and he often. Talks about it isn't the gun that triggers itself it's the human being and often it's a human being with with mental illness but equally there are many other people who and indeed some who would like to see the Constitution changed and make the United States more like other countries like the U.K. Where you you don't have an automatic right to own a gun from what we know of the 2 shootings last weekend it seems as if the gunman in the Dayton
